Casa Colombia Review - East Austin - Austin - The Infatuation

"From the outside, Casa Colombia looks like a pretty nondescript East Austin restaurant. It could have been a bank in a previous life, complete with limestone brick walls and a dedicated parking lot. But inside, there’s a spacious dining room that’s always packed full of people waiting for some of the best Colombian and South American food in town.  Don’t be too surprised if you enter the waiting area and have to make your way through families and middle school soccer teams waiting for a table. Everyone’s here for the same reason—this rare combination of affordable plates and consistent quality. And the portions are hearty enough to feed growing athletes and small families alike. Start with an order of aborrajado and enjoy the best combination of fried plantains and mozzarella we’ve encountered in the city. Then, order the bandeja paisa tipica—basically a Greatest Hits platter of Colombian favorites—and pair it with a massive 32-ounce goblet of tart, creamy passion fruit juice with milk. You’ll probably leave with a takeout box bigger than what you were able to finish, and an overwhelming desire to come back again soon. " - Nicolai McCrary

Elephant and Castle’s Best Cafes, Bars, and Snacks | Eater London

"This two tiered bakery-cafe is located in the first arch next to the Strata building. Baked goods are universally fine here, and many Colombians come here to buy arepas and empanadas in bulk, either fresh or frozen, to use at home. Papas rellenas are balls of rice, peas and strands of slow-cooked beef denser than a neutron star, containing an extraordinarily generous filling that spills out of its TARDIS-like interior. The crimped Cornish pasty-looking pastries are actually salteñas, empanadas filled with chicken, olives, hard boiled egg and sweet gravy, loved by the local Bolivian community. There is a Colombian lunch menu on which resides the simple chicharron arepa, a whole rib worth of meat, where the skin and fat of the belly has become so crisp it’s almost like fried chicken." - Jonathan Nunn

Best Latin American Restaurants in Austin | Eater Austin

"This family-friendly east side restaurant focuses on traditional meat dishes like churrasco, bistec criollo (steak cooked in sauce), and bandeja paisa, which is a beef sirloin dish served with white rice, red beans, sweet plantains, avocado, and topped with a fried egg. Plentiful fish and vegetable options are also available." - sommer-brugal

If you’re looking for authentic Colombian food that feels like home, this is the place. I was born and raised in Queens, New York, and have been searching for Colombian food that brings back the flavors I grew up with—this spot delivered exactly that. The food was incredible and reminded me of meals from my childhood. We started with the arepas con queso and Colombian chorizo—simple, classic, and full of flavor. My husband ordered the bandeja paisa, and I had the tamal valluno—both were comforting, hearty dishes with generous portions. We even had leftovers to take home! We also grabbed a pan de bono to go, which was perfect with coffee later. The drinks were just as impressive. We ordered the mango colada and maracuyá mojito—both were made right in front of us and were super refreshing. Service was excellent. Our bartender, Daniel, was friendly and made great drinks. Stefany F., our server, was so kind and patient—she really made us feel welcome. The restaurant has a spacious layout with plenty of seating in the back and some cozy spots near the bar. It’s a great place for lunch, dinner, or a family outing. Highly recommend if you’re in the mood for delicious, authentic Colombian food with great service.

Sometimes you have to take a chance to find little hidden gems. Food was very flavorful. Food came out faster than the drinks. Lol Overall I would recommend this restaurant if you're feeling homesick for Latin food or if you want to try something new. Will definitely revisit.

Google
Upon arrival, the entrance was extremely crowded, creating an uncomfortably warm environment. The addition of ceiling fans or improved ventilation would greatly enhance the guest experience during peak hours. The service was acceptable, though not particularly remarkable. Unfortunately, the food fell far below expectations. I ordered two arepas with chicharrón, and the arepas became hard within minutes. The lack of seasoning and overall flavor was disappointing, not only in this dish but across several other plates we tried. Regrettably, this was one of the most flavorless experiences I’ve had at a Hispanic restaurant. There is significant room for improvement in both the food quality and overall guest comfort.

Google
i wouldnt call myself a picky eater but i was a bit nervous trying colombian food for the first time, i did not know what to expect from any plate but man this might be one of my top favorite dishes in austin. i recommend the Bistec a Caballo, its steak topped with a onion-y tomato sauce which is AMAZING. it comes with beans & fried plantains but we like to substitute an extra order of white rice & mashed potatoes. their portions are big so my partner & i like to split this dish!

Google
The food is absolutely fabulous and authentic ! We had the ceviche, medium guava juice with water and the beef patacones rellenos. It did take 20 minutes for us to be greeted & the flies were wild on the patio, but our server was nice and the food came quick once we ordered. Def check out

Google
Food was good. The space was OK. There was alot of tables very close together and it was difficult to walk around. Difficult to get a server or get them to bring napkins. Parking near the restaurant was rough but they did havw more parking across the street. Overall the experience was nice.

Google
Our party of three arrived around 1:45 pm on a Sunday. The parking lot is a bit small but we're able to find a space. It was a hot day but we agreed to be seated outside so our wait was very short. There were fans that kept us from being too hot but it was pretty warm. Our waiter was very efficient and friendly. We were served in an appropriate amount of time. The food was really delicious. Probably the best salmon I have ever eaten.

Google
Casa Colombia is a lively spot that clearly attracts a crowd, so don’t be surprised if smaller parties find themselves getting less attention initially. Service started off a bit slow and could have been more attentive, especially compared to the big groups or regulars who seemed to be prioritized. However, once our server Carlos got around to us, he turned it around and provided excellent service—great job, Carlos. I tried the Pabellon, a traditional Venezuelan dish featuring marinated shredded beef with criolla sauce and plantains. Although it’s not purely Colombian, the flavors were close enough and fairly satisfying. One thing that stood out, though, was the speed—my dish arrived almost too quickly. It made me wonder if they’re just pre-assembling these in the back rather than cooking fresh. Not necessarily a deal-breaker, but something to keep in mind if you’re looking for that just-made taste. The atmosphere is vibrant and upbeat, with plenty of happy chatter and authentic Colombian music filling the space. Overall, Casa Colombia is worth checking out, especially if you’re in the mood for lively energy and quick, decent food.

Yelp
took my grandma & parents here when they were visiting. now I don't know much about Colombian food, as I'm Puerto Rican, but I would say authentic or not, the food is incredible. The price of the food is also so reasonable, especially in austin. Their drinks (non alcoholic, at least) are delicious and well priced. Their fried Yucca is great, as are their plantains. I come here at least twice a month because of the food. My partner always gets the Bistec Criollo and I get the churrasco. The portions are large and the meat is always cooked perfectly. Their Chimichurri sauce is my favorite. Mariela is usually my server, and if she's not there I ask for her. She's incredibly sweet and wonderful at her job, but any server there does a good job. But Mariela truly makes the experience that much better.

Yelp
As a Colombian from NYC & Miami, this did not meet my expectations and needs. The empanadas were not good at all - chunks of fatty meat and pureed potato. Authentic empanadas have carne mechada and chunks of potato. The pan de bonos, buñuelos and jugos were good. I don't think I'll be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Food was so flavorful and delicious! Chicken and sauce were awesome. Had chicken empanada as well as an appetizer which was really good. All of their original sauces were excellent. Mashed potatoes were excellent - so creamy and fluffy but also flavorful. Service was great. Friendly and helpful. Ambiance was nice. Somewhat dark in the inside but did have an outside patio as well. Love this place and plan to go back soon!

Yelp
The most authentic Colombian restaurant in Austin. Food is always fresh. Ropa vieja, jugo de Maracuyá, ceviche and ajiaco, are our favorites! Also a family owned business. Support local ;)

Yelp
We stopped by for late lunch 3ish but it was still hopping! They had a festive vibe today and there's even some diners who just came from the Viva La Vida parade in their full sugar skull make up and outfits! This is truly a neighborhood gem. The staff is always super welcoming at Casa Colombia! Our favorites are Efren and Mariella We had our favorites - ceviche, tres leches, deep fried pork belly. Their salsa goes well with everything! One dish that we ordered to go was Picada Colombiana - Assorted basket filled with fried goods and this was a delightful appetizer. They had sausage, beef, chicken, pork, yuca, small potatoes, plantains, all fried to perfection! Great appetizer!

Yelp
Wow! We were on a work related event and we always like trying out new restaurants. We stumbled across Casa Colombia. It's a big menu with tons of options from meat, chicarrón, chicken - there's something here for everyone.

Yelp
Vibrant flavors and hearty textures define this Colombian restaurant.I ordered a vegetarian dish and it was a medley of fresh vegetables, beans, and spices! So good and it was really popular for a Sunday night dinner!

Daniel F.

Yelp
the service is ok, can't tell the same for the food it was kind mediocre, could be way better and tasteful , the place is a little dark I'll recommend to add more lights, I was sit beside another couple and it was a old lady who was struggling reading the menu because the light is so bad. the thing that made me feel disgusted an a little bit was the "chicharron", it was hard, dry and not properly cooked on the skin, not something that I want to repeat again

Yelp
Amazing, authentic Colombian food with excellent, fast and friendly service. Highly recommend checking this place out!

Yelp
Coming to Casa Colombia is always a comfort food treat. Their beans are delicious and remind me of home even though I'm not Colombian, but it's about as close as you can get to good Puerto Rican beans in Austin. Their chimichurri has a bit more vinegar content than most, but it only makes it more addictive. The way they cook the churrasco (skirt steak) is a bit odd but delicious nonetheless. The pork rind was not cooked enough and it was chewy. Ended up air frying it to eat with the rest of my leftovers and it came out perfect. I had never tasted morcilla before but it was tasty, definitely an acquired taste though. It paired really well with their spicy sauce. The service could have been better but it was a Saturday at peak time so I understand. Overall a great meal that tastes like home.
google avatar

Yelp
I drive by this place all the time and usually it has a decent amount of people so I decided to give it a try. I ordered a Bandeja Paisa Tipica Antioquena. The food was okay the fried pork grind wasn't as crispy as I would have liked it to be and was chewy with made it harder to cut and eat. The steak was lacking seasoning and since it is a thin cut the temperature was well cooked. We did get an tequenos which are essentially cheese stick and those were delicious!

Yelp
Sometimes in East Austin, you find trendy restaurants. Other times you find authentic ones. This one feels authentic. One thing I love about this restaurant is that it takes reservations. We were taking our Exchange Student around in Austin and he loves to try different cuisines. We arrived even before 5 PM on a Saturday in the place was already bustling. But when we walked in, they showed us right to the table we had reserved. Our waiter was the sweetest! We ordered the ceviche for appetizer, and everyone loved it. The food is home-cooked so they say it takes a little longer, but I didn't think it was crazy at all. Everything was fresh and perfect. I got the stuffed chicken and, it tasted unbelievably good. Also, the food felt really healthy as well without sacrificing flavor. Maybe because we were in the bar area it felt a little bit loud but it wasn't bad at all. I felt great after my meal, so I don't think they use any weird MSG or anything like many restaurants do. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Very good food and great service by Mariela. Mariela fue muy amable y attentive. Regresemos.
google avatar

Jane R.

Yelp
YUMMMM, the food was so good except the arepas were quite hard making it difficult to chew. I really enjoyed all of the meats and plantains. The service was wonderful, they brought us out a menu with photos of each thing on the menu, which was helpful! I didn't love the taste of the water, although I usually drink tap. Overall, I would definitely go back as I, personally, love Colombian food!
google avatar

Kristal O.

Yelp
Very authentic and super tasty! It is a little overpriced but it's locally owned and everyone is so nice. Some of the staff doesn't speak any English so be kind and they're fine with you pointing I ALWAYS get a cup of the soup arajico and hits the spot. Family friendly and dogs on the patio.
google avatar

Alex R.

Yelp
Food is delicious. Staff is very friendly. The family that owns the restaurant are wonderful people.

Yelp
Found this restaurant on Yelp and wanted to check it out. I went by myself and the service was very friendly and inviting. The interior felt like I was in Colombia. Pretty cool. My food was amazing. No complaints. I'll come back next time I'm in Austin

Yelp
This place was very accommodating for a large party and delish!!! I got the churrasco bistec and everything was super yummy on my plate. It came with yucca, green beans and mashed potatoes. The mojito was so good and the Bahama mama was just ok. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Service was great, ambiance wonderful, the food is top notch. At 1 PM, no wait time. Plenty of space. You can sit inside or outside.
google avatar

Carrie B.

Yelp
Went here for lunch on a Friday. The location is convenient with plenty of parking. Friendly staff welcomed us and apologized for the wait. Only waited about 5 min for a table. Waitress was friendly and attentive. Ordered the ropa vieja dish. Everything on the plate was delicious! Restaurant felt festive and fun. Looking forward to making this a special lunch treat at work so I can try other dishes.

Fernanda H.

Yelp
I went to Casa Colombia and Mrs. Mariella served us, very friendly and everything until it was time to pay, we were giving her 10 as a tip (a tip is not supposed to be an obligation) and she got upset because we didn't give her 18 dollars , because that day he had gone, which is not my fault, and he also said something rude referring to the mochas, I have gone twice, and both times he said something rude, and there were children present.
google avatar

Kaitlyn H.

Yelp
The yuca and plantains were amazing but the arepas were really dry. Service was great and hosts and servers spoke both Spanish and English. Casual spot with outdoor and indoor seating. Seems like a popular spot - Got there right at open and other people were already walking in too.

Yelp
I was recommended this restaurant by a friend as I'm new to Austin. I was so excited to enjoy some Colombian cuisine on a hot Tuesday evening. I ordered way more than I should have (ceviche, cheese arepa, platanos maduros, beef empanada and a tres leches cake) but I was happy to take home left overs. The tres leeches cake was brought out first with the platanos and I was really confused as to why but my inner child embraced having dessert before dinner for a change. The empanada was very flavorful and the ceviche has plenty of lime. The arepa was hard to open without breaking so I had to get creative in how to eat it with the maduros. What put me off was that a fan on the wall located over my table was turned on (I was seated outside) and the misting machine was leaking and spraying drops of water on myself and my table. I ended up packing up early as the attention to service here is a little...underwhelming. The staff is perfectly nice but perhaps not so attentive to things I consider obvious. I probably wouldn't return unless friends were bringing me here. Not too bad but the service deterred me.
google avatar

Tony P.

Yelp
Good authentic Colombian food! I went here with my Colombian girlfriend and she said the food was very authentic. We got my favorites and everything was very good! If you haven't had Colombian food before, it is primarily focused on pastries, cheese, and very homey food. Nothing too extreme in terms of flavor as far as I can tell but very comfortable. For pastries, I would recommend pan de bono and bunuelos. These are classics. For more savory options, churrasco is a steak kind of dish which is very good albeit a bit chewy. Portions are big so you'll fill up here.
google avatar

Yelp
SUMMARY: great spot for columbian food, a little pricey, excellent service. FOOD: bandeja paisa house special is phenomenal and a great tasting platter for a wide variety of Columbian food, but DO SPLIT IT. It's an incredibly large dish! Tequenos appetizer is a cheesy fried and a great rendition! Price: like any Austin place, it will be pricey! Recommendation: this is a great spot to lunch. Look into the neighboring food trucks they also have some great treats! Cheers

Justin T.

Yelp
We have been coming here for many years. But the last 2 times we have tried to order the ceviche and we were told both times the cook did not want to cook it. As well as waiting 30 minutes to just receive a beer and never received it. Waiter ignored us for the whole time. But when we went to the front and asked to see the manager he showed up to make us pay. I guess that's the only way to get attention now. Was once our favorite restaurant is now a place we will never visit again
google avatar

Kathy Y.

Yelp
Food was a 3, server's overall attitude was a 2, and the ambiance was a 4. Empanadas were hard and burnt. Server wasn't attentive. The lighting was dim but it was a nice location. Wouldn't come back.
google avatar

Desiree A.

Yelp
Authentic and delicious food! I can't say enough about this place. We must have texted about four different families about the food here while we were eating! I got the tilapia plate with mayonesa, avocado, sweet plantains (maduros) with yuca fries!! Absolutely amazing!! My wife got the shredded beef in criolla sauce with black beans and sweet plantains. Then we each had four drinks of "Taste of Life" which was pink and sweet. I forgot to mention we also had a cheese arepas to start! Also very yummy!! Check the pics! This food was legendary!

Yelp
I don't recommend this place. Food was ok, service was terrible. Came here over Labor Day weekend, and at the end of the experience we all just wanted to leave. We were seated rather quickly. It took a while for our server to greet us. He was nice. Anyway, we started with ordering some drinks, empanada and a kid plate. After about 15 minutes the drinks came out with the kids plate and empanada. 2 of us ordered iced tea, but no iced tea. So we ordered the rest of the food and reminded him of the iced tea. Anyway about 20 minutes later, 1/2 our food came out. Again, no iced tea. We told him just to cancel the iced tea because we obviously weren't getting that. About 10 minutes later, we asked about the rest of the food and was told it was coming. We just said cancel it as we're were just wanting to go. Anyway, we talked to the owner and explained the situation. He kinda threw the server under the bus. I'm not sure if it was the server or kitchen or what. Anyway, he said to hold on as he wanted to give us a free dessert to make up for it. But we really just wanted to leave. We were already there for quite sometime. They brought us out a free dessert... it was a normal size tres leches cake ( I think) and it was for 6 of us to split. I gotta say, it was good but not worth waiting an extra 10 minutes for it for 2 bites per person. Maybe we just had a really bad experience, but with the average food and terrible service - I cannot recommend this place.
google avatar

Fanny S.

Yelp
Mediocre food. Customer service was ok. I mean I been coming to this place for some years now and travel from Houston but definitely this place have gotten worse and worse. I will rather hit a food truck instead. I will not be returning to this establishment again. Sorry you lost a customer with me.
google avatar

Jake H.

Yelp
Casa de Colombia is a favorite of mine, especially when there is a Colombian fútbol game happening. That was not the case this trip for lunch which just means it isn't as loud or busy. I enjoy the flavors from South America. I have to start with the Tequeños- Venezuelan cheese sticks. The dough is great! Also had a maracuya (passion fruit) juice. Lots of juice selections. I went and ordered a bunch of stuff this go around getting sweet plantains, an empanada and arepa and sopa de ajiaco. The empanada too entirely too long (and should have been comped); I think they forgot about it. 4 stars because the service wasn't the best, unfortunately.

Luis N.

Yelp
Worst service ever and the food was not good at all. This is not true Colombian food or service.
google avatar

Courtney B.

Yelp
I am so glad I found this place. My friend and I scarfed this down in 2 minutes. The food is so good. I wanted to order another plate. Next time!!! Will be back soon.
google avatar

Veronica T.

Yelp
Another very popular, but over-rated Austin restaurant. Food was very bland, low quality and over priced. My daughter likes the vegetarian plate doused with their house-made hot sauce, but the other two plates we ordered (Pechuga Relleno and Pollo Guisado) were very lackluster. The chicken was bland and the side salad looked and tasted like it came from a bag of chopped salad. What's with the plain, flavorless white rice? Can someone please explain the appeal? Nice building inside and out... very clean. Liked their patio and service was friendly and attentive. However, I would forego all this if I could just have a tasty meal. This is the only reason I go out to eat. Otherwise, I would just stay home and cook. Sorry, I just don't get the hype of this place, and I have tried it a few times over many years.
google avatar

Ryan O.

Yelp
I cannot express how overpriced this food is. Arroz con Pollo ($18.50) Tamal ($20!!!) Tequenos ($16) Pandebono ($6) Side of Maduros ($9) I mean, I don't think anything else is necessary. NEVER again will order food from or eat in this restaurant. The food wasn't all that great and definitely not of high quality. Irritated.
google avatar

Mariam H.

Yelp
Being Colombian, I am extremely picky about the Colombian restaurants I go to, and this is my favorite in town! They staff is so friendly, and the food tastes ALMOST as good as back home ;). The Jugo de Lulo en leche is my favorite drink, the empanadas are amazing, and the bandeja paisa is a great plate if you're starving or want to try a bit of everything!

Deborah R.

Yelp
The food was delicious and authentic. Mariella was an incredible server, she was thoughtful and kind and playful. She made the experience for us. As a Colombiana, I loved their arepas and ban de bono. The arepas were tasty too! Will return when I'm craving yummy Colombian cuisine.

Yelp
Me fascina es mi lugar favorito para comer, mis cumpleaños y ocasiones especiales siempre quiero estar allí , 100% recomendado excelente atención
google avatar

Adriana B.

Yelp
Traditional Colombian meals. The Colombian tamales are delicious! The meat is ok, the yucca is good. Tropical juices are yummy, but the rest I have had better. The arepas kind of dry and flavorless, the chicharrón on the bandeja paisa is not crispy as it should be, however the service is always very friendly!

Ashley C.

Yelp
Amazing food and service here. The meat was tender and flavorful, rice was fresh and the beans were delicious. We also enjoyed a cup of coffee not pictured and it was great! The only thing I'll say was not all that was the arepa. This place had people coming in the door every 10 minutes, it speaks for itself. :) We will be back to bring our family!!

Daniel M.

Yelp
Muy buen servicio buena comida ambiente familiar. Gracias por la amabilidad . La pasamos muy bien mi esposa y yo . Gracias y que Dios los bendiga

Yelp
Went here for the first time with a group of friends and we'll definitely be back! Food and drinks were delicious and service is excellent. Mariella was our waiter and she was so sweet.

Yelp
ordered them through uber eats. I got the Chuleta a la Parrilla Grilled porkchops marinated in our house seasoning. Served with white rice, tostones & fried yucca. The pork chop was tasty and moist. had a nice spicy sauce to go with it. Used it to dip my yucca and tostones in. My husband said the pork chop was in his top 5 of eating out pork chops out in public. He played it safe and got the Ropa Vieja Cuban style dish, shredded brisket marinated in a tomato red wine sauce with olives and capers; served with rice, black beans & sweet plantains. It was also tasty, his only complaint was the black beans was mostly just liquid and no beans. We will definitely eat again.
google avatar

Marty B.

Yelp
Stopped by here on my way to the airport and it was very good. The steak was tender and the food had lots of flavor. The service was prompt and they were very polite. When your in the mood for Colombian food this is a great choice.
google avatar

Heberto G.

Yelp
For your first visit here I highly recommend that you order the Bandeja Paisa Típica, it's a combination plate with a very tender beef sirloin steak, a fried pork rind with savory meat on it, half of a chorizo sausage that was a favorite of mine and yes, the plate also has white rice, red beans, green plantains, avocado slices, an arepa (cornmeal patty) all topped by a fried egg. Oh, and they also add sweet plantains for you to enjoy as dessert. Either come very hungry or prepared to enjoy your leftovers another day. After tasting all of this different Colombian food on your plate, you'll have a better idea of what to order on your next visit. Or just do like I've done on my various trips, I keep ordering this deliciously humongous plate. Even with all of this food, we still start our meal with an order of arepas with goat cheese and panela sauce or the empanadas with chicken or cheese. I've been to several countries within South America and this little Eastside eatery is as close to homemade as you're going to get.

Yelp
Authentic food, friendly staff, small parking lot. Casa Columbia is an amazing restaurant owned by a wonderful family. Their location on east 7th street is beautiful and very spacious. I've been there a number of times and it's never disputed. Some of my favorite items are the goat cheese and Pamela salsa Arepas. They are seriously dynamite. If you love goat cheese you'll love this appetizer. The empanadas are a must if you're getting Colombian food. Try the beef one. It's very tasty! I'd love to tell you I've tried everything but I've been addicted to one meal there that I get every time. The House Speciality called the Bandeja Paisa. It's a big meal but it's incredibly tasty! The meal includes Tender beef sirloin, crispy fried pork rind, fragrant rice with an egg on top, the best red beans you'll ever have and sweet plantains. Also comes with some sliced avocado and a corn meal patty. It's basically an intro 101 class into Colombian food for people like myself who haven't ever experienced Colombian cooking. There's so much pride in this business and it shows in the staff and the food. My only complaint is the parking lot can be a pain to get in and out of depending on how busy they are. I'd suggest going at an off time (like 3p-5p) but honestly just go whenever you can. It's worth it.

Yelp
Food was great!! Service was off the CHAIN!! Thank you Mariela!! You made our experience even more awesome!!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is delicious. Came here to get a filling dinner and that's exactly what we got. The drink I ordered was a little strong for my taste but I'm grateful for that given the price. The bandeja Paisa was delicious and allowed me to try a couple different delicious foods. I most enjoyed the sweet plantains.

Yelp
I recommend others to check out Casa Colombia. I had a good experience and think the food is fine. Our server was friendly and food came out at a good pace. It has a casual vibe and prices seem somewhat fair. The ceviche peruano was very lime-y but the fish tasted fresh, kind of wish they had other options rather than tilapia. It was tilapia pieces on a bed of iceberg lettuce. The pandebono was really good!! Could have a whole basket of those. Although 1 for $2.99 is a bit steep. I split the bandeja paisa house special. It was easily shareable and there is a good quantity of meat and sides. We were given a tub of salsa with our food, I found myself adding a lot of salsa to the food for flavor. I thought the dish was lacking seasoning of even salt and pepper. The salsa was spicy and flavorful. The beef sirloin was thin and cooked well done, so tough, and with no seasoning so did not enjoy that. I did like the pork rind and chorizo sausage. The dish came with beans, rice, plantains, arepa so it was nice to have that large sample of food. Food was a mixed bag but dinner was enjoyable. It seems like a casual family place and there is patio space which is a plus.

I am sucker for food from the Caribbean, and South and Central American countries. When I moved to Austin I thought all I was going to be able to eat was American food, BBQ and Tex-Mex - booooooring! After a year or so living here I discovered Casa Colombia and 10 years later I'm still eating there regularly. Casa Columbia is amazing! The food is outstanding and delicious, the service is really good, and the staff is nice. Just about everything is worth trying. My girlfriend and I have worked our way around the menu a few times. She's the omnivore, I'm the pescatarian. My We both love the Aborrajado (sweet plantains stuffed with mozarella cheese), maduros and bunuelos. Her absolute favorite is the Ropa Vieja but also loves the Pechuga de Pollo and Pollo Guisado. My favorites are the Salmon en Limon y Mantequilla, Pescado en Cilantro y Mayonesa and Camarones a la Catalana. You also can't go wrong with getting an assortment of sides and appetizers and skipping the mains. Get the Tequenos, Maduros, Aborrajado, several Arepas and maybe some Patacones for the table. You won't be disappointed! I'm not a fan of watching sports at bars or restaurants, but there is something different about it at Casa Colombia. It is kinda fun when there is a soccer match on. The people that go there to watch the games can be very passionate. One time I saw someone cry when their team got scored on. Anyway... go to Casa Colombia!
