LA’s New Restaurant Openings - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"This Spanish restaurant from NYC is now open inside the Century City mall with a space that looks like a resort lobby. Expect fancy-sounding tapas like ham croquetas and octopus carpaccio, plus three types of paella. They’re also running a $39 lunch prix fixe, which includes dishes like avocado and bluefin tartare or chorizo and aji empanadas. Oh, and right next door is a shiny new Katsuya from the same restaurant group." - cathy park

Incredible food, incredible service! I am from Spain and I haven’t found Spanish food in LA that is perfect, this one is. Thank you Casa Dani!!

I really wanted to love Casa Dani — the space is absolutely stunning, and the ambiance sets the stage for what you’d hope would be a great dining experience. Unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to the atmosphere. The service was friendly and attentive, which I genuinely appreciated. Our waiter and the staff were warm and helpful throughout the evening. But sadly, the food was a letdown. We ordered the seafood paella, which arrived cold. The seafood itself was overcooked and lacked any real flavor, and the rice was undercooked — a surprising miss for a dish that should be a highlight at a Spanish restaurant. Drinks were well-crafted and tasty, but they came in glasses dominated by giant ice cubes, which meant just a few sips for \$24. Not exactly a great value. Overall, Casa Dani is a beautiful place with potential, and I had high hopes walking in. But between the cold, flavorless food and underwhelming portions, I left disappointed. Not sure I’d return unless some serious improvements are made in the kitchen.

We were very excited about this restaurant since it opened. We decided to take our best friend out for his birthday on a Saturday evening with very high hopes. Initially, we expected that everything we thought would come true. The space itself is quite beautiful and inviting with a very gorgeous decor of light colored wood and green and brown leathers and plants indoors. It's rather gorgeous. Unfortunately, this is as good as it got. From the decor it went very much downhill. It is a good deal too dark, which makes it impossible for you to read the menu or even see the food without using the light on your cell phone. Additionally, it is so incredibly loud with the music that it is impossible to hear anyone other than the person next to you, but only if they yell. First, even though the menu was printed today, multiple items said MP for "market price". And when we hesitantly asked, the MP was outlandish. The service was rather slow and inattentive. Our waters did not get filled until we asked multiple times and it was difficult to get lemons for the water or for the fish. We ordered a $70 vegetarian paella and when it showed up, even though it came in a gigantic pan, the entire thing was maybe half a centimeter thick, two small plates was all it had, for $70. Worse yet, the paella was disgusting. It was just plain rice with mushrooms, without much flavor and 10 times too much salt. When we complained to the server as well as the manager about the amount of salt and lack of taste, they seemed dismissive (but did later comp a desert in apology while keeping the charge on the bill). The fish was pretty good but came bare. For $80, that's double an acceptable price and should have come with at least some lemon or vegetables. The ahi tuna carpaccio was expensive and served on a massive plate but then you realize it's paper thin so you're getting just a couple bites. And they use so much oil that it overwhelms the flavor of an expensive cut of fish. Salads were on the small side. Cocktails had too much ice so there wasn't much in the glass. After ordering a substantial amount and paying a small fortune (they of course added a hefty "health fee" to the bill, as if for those prices they can't afford to pay their staff a living wage and benefits!), we all left hungry and unsatisfied. We all had high hopes but Casa Dani falls short in nearly very way. I doubt it'll last long at this location with so much (better) competition steps away. Save your cash and go elsewhere.

exceptional service, food, ambiance—you name it, casa dani has it. It is a truly spectacular dining experience. I advise ALL to try it, to get the delicious taste of the Spanish cuisine—a taste not often found in Los Angeles. Did it live up to my expectations? absolutely :) Sadly, 5 stars is the limit. highly recommend

Ordered a dozen oysters and one of them was rotten, not genuine Spanish food, more like Spanish with american cooks and the paella are not even close to the one that they prepared in Spain. Ordered a lot in the menu, and was highly disappointed.

Incredibly disappointed with the experience at Casa Dani. Everything from the food to the service fell short. As a Spanish person having heard many times about Dani Garcia, I was epxecting the most delicious Spanish food. However, nothing ressembled the gastronomy I am used to. Our waitress recommended us the fried shrimps as one of our tapas. After paying $25 for this, it was a dissapointment to see 4 sad pre-cooked shrimps in tempura with a chipotle sauce that could've perfectly come straight from Target. The o'toro tartare also fell short, mainly tasting of lemon zest. We risked it by ordering the chicken paella as a main, and boy was it bad. As a Valencian woman, this was probably the worst rice I have ever tasted and eaten. Rice was completely undercooked, basically unedible, for an astounding price of $80!! Also, the only thing present in the dish was the rice and a chicken...that´s it. Anyone that has been to Spain knows this is not the real deal. Finally, the service was also disappointing. Tapas were all served at once, with no consideration about the flavours or what order they should have been served at. Also, the paella arrived much sooner than expected, but instead of waiting for us to be done with the tapas, the waiter served us our plates and took all the tapas dishes away while we were still on them. I had to take the croqueta away from the plate while the waiter was already turning to leave... I hope the restaurant takes all of the feedback into consideration and improves in all aspects.

Got food poisoning from a rotten oyster. It was rotten to the point that as soon as I spat it out everyone in my table thought I puked because the smell was so foul. The paella was heavily undercooked and they seemed to be using pre-cooked shrimps, which we each (3 of us) only got one. We also ordered a Caesar salad that was improperly prepared, all you could taste was the anchovies in the sauce, nothing else. Their solution was giving us an extra portion of jamón… yeah we are not coming back, the only reason the jamón was good was because they didn’t have to prepare it themselves. The only nice thing was how the place looked.
