LA Times Critic Reviews Hip Santa Monica Rooftop Spot Elephante Next - Eater LA

"Arellano, who previously reviewed food at the OC Weekly, sped over to Mira Loma in Riverside County to crush some Guadalajaran specialities from a spot called Casa Diaz. Calling it an 'all-day diner,' Arellano takes particular note of the 'crunchy, soupy, and bright' tacos ahogados, as well as the carne en su jugo and platters of 'regular' enchiladas, fajitas, nachos, and burritos. But for something special, it’s best to lean in just a bit more: In the end, Arellano asks the owners to not 'back down' from their regional cooking talents. 'Show Southern California the full glories of the Guadalajara kitchen,' he says, 'I want to live in a world where those tacos ahogados are the next Sonoratown.'" - Farley Elliott

This place is okay. We tried it out on father's day weekend and we had to wait for awhile which wasn't bad. We ordered some chile verde nachos, those were good meat was nice and tender. They also let us try their carne en su jugo which was pretty good. Our friends ordered a plate of barbacoa and a asada burrito. Both I thought were good, the burrito is a good nice size. My sister got the gorditas plate, one chicken & one asada. We both agreed that the chicken was missing seasoning so it was very bland. It's very rare when I see restaurant advertising Tinga, so my sister & I got excited and I got a plate of tacos. Presentation looked awesome I'll give them that lol but I was really disappointed with the flavors. I did like their salsa bar though, different types and they were good.

Good food good service. When I walked in I was already asked nicely if I wanted to dine it or take out. I chose to dine In and the young waitress was nice and let us take our time with the menu. I enjoyed the food. I will definitely visit again.

First time trying this place. 😃 I had chilaquiles verdes with carne asada, beans and potatoes. It was delicious!!! The carne asada was a bit dry but everything else was so good! Can’t wait to go back and try more. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this restaurant.

2nd time here for lunch. Ordered the mole enchiladas a little sweet and spicy at the same time. Enchiladas are filled with shredded beef and fairly generous at that. The plate comes with 3 enchiladas, rice, beans and a little green salad. This reminds me of growing up and Grandma put everything on one plate. Definitely plan on returning, service was great, the ladies in the front were friendly.

You should try the carne en su jugo. Hits the spot Everytime. If your not into soup then try the papa sonora. It's a potato with asada, cheese, bacon and much more. Those two items never disappoint.

Always a great time at Casa Diaz! Great customer service, I always have the carne en su jugo there, they never disappoint , great flavors , hand made tortillas and the little tostadas they give with your order of carne en su jugo is the perfect combo! Clean dining room, good food and great service, what else can someone ask for? Enjoy!!!

Service sucks! It forever to put our order in. Then it took forever to get our appetizer, we had to ask for it like 3 times and it finally came with our dinner. No refills on drinks. Food was okay. Nothing special.
