If you're serious about food, their barbacoa is the most tender, flavorful meat you'll ever out in your mouth, and tortillas are made by hand in front of your very eyes! Hats off to Joe, Elisabeth and family for consistent, pure deliciousness!

I'll never come back to eat again. The chicken enchiladas had dry and bland chicken with cartilage. No flavor, seasonings, or herbs when it was boiled. The sour cream curdled on my enchiladas so it had texture of cottage cheese. The beans were bland, they must not use any kind of oil to fry them or lard to cook them. Maybe they are just boiled and mashed. No salt in anything. The rice did have some flavor but it was cumin which is just weird. Chips are soaked in old oil that tasted like it was a few days old. And the tomato sauce is just blended up pico. Bland again. I don't think there's any salt in the kitchen. TACO DINNER PLATE DOES NOT INCLUDE TORTILLAS. So how do you eat tacos?

Absolutely love Casa Galaviz! My favorite has to be the huevos rancheros! The salsa is served warm and typically best poured over the eggs. Toss in the fried potatoes, retried beans and the homemade flour tortillas and it’s absolutely incredible! This place has been here 34 years and it’s been amazing every time! Love this place and will always keep going back!

Great family environment. The breakfast tacos are amazing. All items are home made with love you can taste. I love how the owner greets everyone by name.

Get your times open and close correct. Hour to close on Saturday is 2pm .. here at 1220 and the sign is lit... the guy waves it's close! Won't be back. Thanks

Advertised as open. It's not. Fire carne guisada but my girlfriend has already yelled at me because this place is not open. Do better.

This little gem is on the corner of a very small, older strip mall. Hard to see unless you are looking for it. They are only open for breakfast and lunch and that is until the food is sold out so times vary. They do have a drive-through and a place to eat inside. I went by for breakfast one day while in town and got a breakfast taco meal with rice and beans for six dollars. Friendly people. Handmade and stretched tortillas. Would definitely recommend!

I never right reviews, so this was so bad I had to let others know. Went for breakfast tacos. Ordered the ranchero, which was more of a breakfast plate. The tortillas were okay, but more of a flour pancake than a flour tortilla. It was the best part. The other patrons were referring to this place with nostalgia as a classic location. Maybe this was a new owner, certainly not the founder of a historic location. To make it quick, there was no salt, pepper or other seasonings. Everything was served out of the microwave, including precooked eggs. They forgot to microwave the extra tacos we got. They were cold and the cheese wasn't melted. Did I mention it was 30$ for 4 tacos? That's like torches tacos prices, but these were absolutely terrible. I'm a hole in the wall taco connoisseur. My only recommendation would be to let this place burn to the ground and take the insurance money. It's not salvageable.

Food gets heated up in the microwave?! Worst customer service ever experienced, brought my guys out to eat for lunch and we didn't get to eat rather left somewhere else. Didn't take our order at all we were standing by counter for 15-20 mins with no attendance.

It's cheap. It's greasy. It's authentic. It's good. Casa Galaviz is a Denton institution.

A GoFundMe was created and raised money to keep this business open. I've tried going twice in one week but it's closed. Once at 1:00 PM on Tuesday and 7:10 AM on Thursday. I give up. They must not want business during their advertised hours of 7 AM-2 PM

These are the best breakfast tacos on the planet. Anytime I travel back to NTX I always try to make it up to get some of Joes tacos. The salsa is also the best around. Carne Guisada with potatoes & cheese are my favorite. But they all good. I sure hope you are open tomorrow cause I don't want to go back to NC unsatisfied. S

Total hole in wall but of the best variety. They hand stretch tortillas for the breakfast tacos!!!! OMG, I think I have a few extra chest hairs from the green salsa(yes, ugly white boys like green salsa too). The taco was super plump with massive thick bacon. Add the green salsa and you are hitting puberty at Mach Speed.

The food is amazing! I'm from San Antonio, and for some reason it's the only place that reminds me of home. That being said, I will not be returning. I have been there or tried to go 10 times. 7 of 10 times I didn't because they were closed. Dispite the sign clearly stating that they close at 2! Both open signs still active. I won't be coming back. Even though the food is excellent.

The guy was kinda rude, they removed tortas from the menu, increased prices that you see online, they don't have corn tortillas, or Aguas Frescas, the salsa provided was pretty much just tomato, and the carnitas were bland. I wouldn't recommend this location for authentic Mexican food.

Went to get breakfast tacos and asked for 2 carne guisada and 2 chorizo and egg. The tacos came out and the carne guisada ones had about the equivalent of one small sugar cube of meat in them and a bunch of sauce. The chorizo ones were decent. If I would've looked at them before I drove away I would've said something. The total came to $14 with a can of Diet Coke. They've done better so I'm not sure what happened.

Great tacos but never open. Three times I've been there during normal hours always around 8-9am and never open. It's ironic because there's always an open sign on the front... lol Don't waste your time traveling here- go to another shop. Sorry Joe, been coming for a long time m, but I'm done telling people about your place until you can keep the thing open.

What a pleasant surprise! I'm very glad we tried this place this morning! It's in the shopping center on Prairie and Elm and I was there just this week and did not see this place. It's on the corner and has a drive thru. The parking lot is huge but the drive thru is so popular that I would avoid parking directly in front of the restaurant in case the line wraps. When you enter, the counter and large menu are right there. There is a cooler of drinks on the right and utensils/napkins/condiments on the left. There were about a dozen tables and a TV playing Law & Order. The gentleman at the counter was very engaged with both the drive thru and dine in customers. Since they are only open until 2pm, I wasn't sure how much of the menu was available, so I asked if it was only breakfast. He informed me it was an open menu but he didn't have several items. I appreciate that kind of freedom before 10am. I thought $2.25 was pricey for tacos and was initially disappointed that the $6.25 taco plate was for only 2 tacos. We each decided to get 3 tacos. I was skeptical about value, and the drinks were also overpriced. It turns out the value is much better than my initial impression. These are big, thick flour tortillas that are generously filled with ingredients. These are worth $2.25. I will get the taco plate next time, neither of us could finish the three tacos and agreed two would have been smarter. The only thing I didn't have an opportunity to try was the carnitas since that was one of several lunch items not yet available. He recommended the carne guisada instead and wow! It was bursting with flavor and so savory. It was comforting and homey, a definite repeat order in the future! The only breakfast taco I tried was the chorizo y papas and I added cheese for 45 cents. This was the least appealing of all the tacos, but that doesn't mean it was bad! The papas made it hard to taste the chorizo or cheese very much, but it was very filling. My husband got the chicken and beef which were the only ones we ordered that came with cheese and veggies. He loved these both, especially the chicken and used up all his salsa. By the way, the salsa doesn't taste spicy and hot, but it successfully cleared our sinuses! He shared a couple of bites of each and both lived up to expectations. The ground beef was seasoned well and good quality. The chicken was very fresh and was nice and moist. Both of these are worthy of ordering again. We each got a barbacoa. The flavor was decent, but it was too watery. I have to say that the salsa complimented the barbacoa perfectly and once I added it on it tasted excellent!! Normally a place with great food and over priced drinks with no refills would get 4 stars from me, but service puts this place over the top! The energy was bustling and happy. The gentleman at the counter seemed to know everyone by name, regular customers knew each other, the environment was welcoming and inclusive. We were treated warmly during our visit, shown where everything was and thanked when we left. They were also on top of taking out the trash and cleaning between the constant customers. What a great first experience that encourages return visits!

Been coming here regularly for 15+ years and have never been disappointed. Everything here is "what you're looking for" when it comes to authentic grub. They have the best bacon/egg breakfast tacos in town, hands down. The owner and his wife are there daily and you can taste why it's a staple of Denton, USA!

Joe The owner is rude as hell, and how can they possibly ran out of tortillas at 11:55 am on a Saturday morning! What kinda business is this! And to top it off The phone number they have on the website is always hung up! Just a terrible place!

I'm so HAPPY that this place still exists! I graduated from UNT in '93 and this was the BEST PLACE for BREAKFAST TACOS! Mrs. Galaviz and her family that worked there always went out of their way to feed me well and they treated me like I was family. Godspeed and Congratulations for being a long standing restaurant in this great college town!

Now over the years of living in Texas I have become accustom to a good street taco. Corn or flour tortilla, really well spiced and flavorful meat, fresh onions, cilantro, a wedge or two of lime and red and green salsas. This is just the basics. Other places will add cheese or grill the onions, but all are a variation of this simple theme. All are also very inexpensive. Casa Galaviz is just south of Denton Square and if you don't know its there, you just don't know it's there. Location, Location, Location. I went there after the lunch rush just because I was actually hunting for something else to eat but I saw this place and thought why not? I have since come to realize I was wrong. Most all of the reviews on here are for their breakfast tacos. Those may actually be good, what I ate was not. I went simple, a two taco platter, guisada pork and lengua. For some reason I like testing out a new place on their lengua tacos. No idea why but I do it at pretty much every new taco place I come upon. Now going back to those basics I listed at the beginning.... These tacos were just meat and the tortilla plus some salsa (which was actually good) and nothing else. No fresh veggies, no lime, nothing. I got a platter and that came with rice and beans, but one of the two was popped in the microwave to reheat it. My guess was the rice. The meat had no flavor. It was BLAND and quite possibly overcooked. The tacos were on thicker tortillas than I am used to and were larger than most street tacos but I just didn't enjoy them. I guess after lunch they close up for awhile, I was the only customer and they locked the door while I was there, a customer tried to come in but no one came to open the door for him. When I first got there, another customer wanted some fresh guacamole for his meal and the owner? said that his avocados were tough today so he didn't have any ready. I don't know, but I could have quite easily run up to the Kroger on University and found a few avocados ready for eating on the spot. It didn't seem like they were trying too hard on this peticular day and that just means I can cross off a place that I don't really need to revisit. I already know of at least four other taco places in Denton that I enjoy all the time but it won't stop me from finding new ones. Sorry this isn't my usual glowing report.

Hands-down, my favorite breakfast taco. Anywhere. I have tried hundreds of other places, and nothing beats my standard: a bacon, potato, egg, and cheese breakfast taco on a flour tortilla from Casa Galaviz. Why you may ask? Let's start with the tortilla. It is handmade fresh, warm, and thick like a blanket of happiness. The eggs are perfect, not weird or stinky or scraggly. Perfect eggs with cheese melted handsomely over them. The potatoes are perfectly cooked, seasoned potato chunks that are fresh not tough. The bacon... oh the bacon. No sprinkled-on bacon bits here. They use actual, fat, juicy, thick-cut bacon strips in their tacos. Need I say more? I drive all the way from North Richland Hills to get these. My personal favorite thing is to go through the drive-thru on a Saturday morning, get 2 of these wonderful monsters with a can of grape soda to-go, and take them adventuring on the Denton Square with my wife.

Food is excellent and served quickly. Hours are a bit inconsistent but the food is always worth the trouble.

I'm writing this review at 130pm on a Wednesday. Their stated time of closing is 2pm on Yelp and on their door. I walked up and the door was locked. I looked in and a lady counting money at the register gave me the hand across the throat sign that they were closed. #Fail

Wow! I can't believe I lived nearby and haven't found this place. Menudo, Barbacoa, Ranchero Plate, and the flour tortillas were just plain delicious. Not fancy just great good. Joe yelling in the background just gives it more of home feel.

Best thick tortillas in Denton County. Barbacoa and guacamole tacos are the best. Great atmosphere. Joe will take care of you. Limited hours 7-3:00.

Tortillas were old and smelled bad. I got two egg, bacon, and potato tacos couldn't eat them they smelled so bad. I guess I'm used to making my own from scratch. I'll eventually try it again but today was a no go for breakfast.

Best breakfast tacos anywhere. I have been coming here since I was born 31 years ago. Everything is fantastic. This is the textbook family owned and run restaurant. Joe knows all of his regulars not only by name but by order. The homemade tortillas are out of this world. Do yourself a favor and try this Gem of Denton.

1st and last time, this is not Mexican food! Just because you have tortillas handmade and menudo on your menu, I'm guessing it's for someone who doesn't know what quality and authentic Mexican food should taste like, but I don't think so! Good try

Quaint place near downtown Denton that offers up breakfast tacos and breakfast plates. I had migas taco and bean and cheese taco. While the migas taco was delicious, the bean and cheese was lacking a bit in flavor. The tortillas were fantastic and fresh. The atmosphere was nice and friendly.

This I the first place my brother took me to when I moved to Denton 7 years ago. I ordered 2 carne guisada tacos with guacamole, cheese and tomatoes and have never looked back. It's diferent than most since it is made with pork instead of beef. Wrapped in fresh homemade flour tortillas. By far the best breakfast taco in Denton. After you come once you will be hooked. This family run place really treats it's customers like members of the Galaviz family. If you are in Denton come in for breakfast or lunch.

Been coming here for decades. Walked in yesterday to a packed restaurant - which was fine, we were just ordering to go anyway. Joe is the main man, he's usually very friendly always cracking jokes with us. He wasn't today. He was angry shouting across the restaurant - complaining very loudly about lack of ingredients and being flat out rude to everyone, not just us. All of his replies to everyone who came in while we were there were short and obnoxious. Like I said - we've been coming here for many years/ we usually order at minimum 2 dozen tacos for our large family who rave about the greatness of Casa Galaviz... now I realize everyone is entitled to an off day or a bad moment, but Joe was compounding the situation and making a very unpleasant environment. No doubt he's a well loved character as everyone who leaves was shouting out "thanks Joe have a good day." We greeted him to which he either didn't recognize us or just simply didn't care, he was more concerned that the pile of tortillas was less than the current demand from orders. That's fine by me - the food here is so good - we will wait for those tortillas. Our order was for six papas y huevos...So my wife stands at the front watching the process and she can see Joe keeps looking back at her and going between the person making the tortillas and the bag of store bought tortillas... the people before us were party of five and actually dining in - so he was weighing what to do to get the order out quicker.... We recognized several friends also eating in and as a couple of them approached the counter to pay, Joe made the switch. He literally waited for us to look the other way and then gave us the store bought tortillas at no discount of price. Joe - if you're reading this, you know what you did. Again the food was ok, but it was easy to tell as the tortillas are what make the tacos so amazing...and super disheartening to realize he choose and obviously discriminated against us with this order. When I said "thanks Joe", as we were leaving he completely blew me off... and at that point the place was dying down... Joe- we've been picking up from you since 2001. No one makes tortillas like your food shack. We've eaten in and picked up for so many years, what if we came with our regular order of 2 dozen tacos yesterday? Would you have asked us to leave? If you're that stressed out son, go on a vacation. We've only ever been nice to you and given you our business, to suddenly be treated like we're inconveniencing you for ordering what's on the menu is horrible business. Won't be back. Now do you see how it feels when someone is rude to you?

I LOVE this place for breakfast tacos. They have a drive through, which is great when you're in a hurry, but they never take that long when I go in and actually sit down. Their tortillas are what make the tacos absolutely killer for me. You can see them making them as you order. They're so soft and fluffy and fresh. It's family owned, which is always a plus in my book. If you got often enough the owner recognizes you and is always very friendly!! A must-go for every Dentonite!

Still going strong. I'm a UNT alum and haven't been to Denton in years. Seriously, they have about the best homemade flour tortillas you'll find anywhere - just like my grandma's! Super tacos, but the carne guisada is my go-to.

Owner and staff are very nice. Food is yummy and affordable. Breakfast taco are large and filling - I can eat a lot and I'm completed stuffed after 2. Orders come out quickly. Highly recommend!

Absolutely amazing! My boyfriend and I went here and it was a spur of the moment decision & I am so glad we discovered this place. Amazing food and the customer service is awesome! Definitely recommend.

Got a Lengua taco for $2.50 (incl. tax). The flour tortilla was really good, but the lengua was shredded and VERY bland... Disappointing, since I usually LOVE lengua. (tasty salsa though) I have been here many times in the past and have thoroughly enjoyed other items (hit & miss). Usually their breakfast tacos are VERY good! Today was just a MISS.

A north Texas staple for breakfast tacos. You cannot go wrong stopping in. I have been going for 25 years or so.

Needs improvement. The service was great. It seemed to be a small family business. The owner was friendly and courteous. Unfortunately the food does not match up to the service. The drinks were canned and bottled drinks in a gas station style refrigerator (with the exception of iced tea). I have no problem with this, but I do have a huge problem with the fact that the drink refrigerator was filthy. The shelves that the drinks sat on were covered in black goop. The tops of the cans were also dirty. I grabbed a few different sodas before finding one that I would be willing to pour a drink from. The food itself was not good. It wasn't horrible, it just really wasn't good. It was kinda like the food you politely eat, even though you don't like it, because a friend or family member cooked it. The rice was mushy for some reason. The beans were ok. The sour cream was placed directly on hot enchiladas instead of being made into a sauce. That of course resulted in coagulated sour cream, which is very unappealing. The food overall was very bland. I do not like salty food, but I added salt just to have some flavor to the food. I couldn't taste any seasonings/spices. My husband was equally unimpressed with his food. The flies within the restaurant also made it an unpleasant experience. We will not be returning.

I give this place five stars because they never disappoint. My hubby and I LOVE to frequent this spot on the weekends and the most enjoyable part is when we get to eat inside. My favorites are the bean and cheese as well as the bean potato and cheese. The service is great and better than I have tried in comparable places in SouthernnTX.

a) breakfast tacos for lyfe. anyone will be a fan after this place. b) I felt like I was in a little mexican kitchen. There was this giant bowl of pico de gallo behind the counter that this little lady was throwing chopped ingredients into, and then immediately served me a helping upon request. OMG. If you know me, I love pico. c) It's ALWAYS closed every time I've tried to go. Get up early betches. No one's gonna care if you look like a d-bag and smell like sweat and hailey's from the night before.

The gold standard. Probably the best breakfast taco in the state...and that means the best breakfast taco in the country. Their delicious, home-made tortillas make my mouth water and very good salsa too. Try the Owens and Egg taco and try not to order another. Their menudo is pretty tasty as well. If Denton wasn't a 45 minute drive away, I'd be eating here everyday.
