"When the word “prestigious” is mentioned, thoughts immediately turn to restaurants such as this one, which first opened in 1882 and has been run by five generations of the same family and continues to showcase authentic Asturian cuisine. Chef Marcos Morán now holds the reins here, in tandem with his father Pedro, with whom he has achieved a perfect symbiosis that is reflected in the balance between innovation and tradition. Choose between the modern-influenced à la carte, which includes a section dedicated to time-honoured recipes, and appetising tasting menus (Clásicos, Degustación 1882 and Geles, each with a wine-pairing option) featuring mains such as the unmissable Fabada de Prendes bean stew, the delicious Pitu de Caleya (a local chicken stew), Asturian tripe etc, and the rice dessert, “crema de arroz con leche requemada”. Marcos Morán’s strong connection to this area has not stopped him expanding further afield, as he now also manages Spanish-inspired restaurants in London, Brussels and, more recently, Nha Trang in Vietnam." - Michelin Inspector

If you have the chance, please eat here! We were in disbelief the whole meal at how amazing the flavors were. The staff were so nice and it was fun to say hi to the chef before eating. The portions are generous so pace yourself. Well priced for a Michelin star. Also - I have celiac and the kitchen made it easy for me to enjoy my meal. Amazing experience and our best meal by far on our Basque/Asturias/Rioja trip!

Casa Gerardo is definitely, by far, my favourite restaurant in Asturias. The cuisine is always consistent, with great product and flavours. Marcos is able to create new dishes but having the tradition always in mind. Dani is on charge of service, with great wine knowledge and always attentive to any detail. Rice pudding not to be missed, best I’ve ever had (and probably different to any other rice pudding you might have had). Fish always cooked perfectly and quite unique Fabada (Asturias traditional dish) is a must

This restaurant is outstanding!!! There is nothing bad! It is a very good and sophisticated restaurant, without losing the homemade food flavours! The fabada is a must try! The view is amazing, the staff is really atentive and caring! Just Loved it!

Delicious food and fantastic service. The 1882 menu never disappoints. As well as the usual classics (croqueta de compongo, fabada de Prendes and the astonishing crema de arroz con leche requemada), it’s really worth mentioning the cigalas, cochinillo and col. Absolutely superb mixture of flavours. Definitely worth a detour if you are in Asturias.

Great service. The wine selection is good. The bean was tasty but sadly I was too full to finish it.

It’s in a beautiful location. I generally don’t care for tasting menus and prefer to create my own menu but we felt that we were pushed to order more food here, for instance a server recommended a 1.5x portion on our fish and lobster when a regular portion would have been fine; we are not big eaters. And especially disappointing given that those two dishes were by far the weakest. The fabada is indeed very good and the thing to get here. Tomato salad with anchovies and peppers very good. The lobster salpicón was a huge letdown, the lobster overcooked and bland, tasting only of onions. At 100€ for a 1.5x portion I expected a much more pleasurable dish, like the salpicón we had several nights before at Alabaster, which was truly great. The worst part of the meal was the hake. It simply was not good, I could smell it as soon as it was set down. It was nicely cooked but it was not fresh, and on top of that I was served a tail piece. Again we had just eaten top quality hake at Alabaster which was fresh in my mind and I’ve eaten plenty of excellent hake throughout Spain. Perhaps it’s because we’re tourists, I don’t know but this fish should have never been served. I didn’t return it and didn’t want to complain or make a scene in a restaurant clearly geared towards locals. I thought desserts were underwhelming including the famous rice pudding. We ate a better rendition at Real Balneario and I’ve had much better all over France, but that’s probably just a matter of taste. Chocolate dessert was monotone with not much variation in flavors or textures, some contrasts would have been nice. Regardless of these faults service was prompt and professional and it’s worth a visit for the fabada, but it was a very expensive lunch to leave so disappointed.

I couldn't hope for a better dining experience. My girlfriend and I had the tasting menu. A beautiful building with a view of several houses on the hillside - one of which had two horses lying in the grass. There's food - and there's this place. I've never found a place where I can enjoy a perfectly cooked - delicate fish, followed by a traditional Asturiana Fabada (bean stew) that would make the Chef who cooked it's grandmother proud. The burnt rice pudding with a glass like top of caramelized sugar was perfect. There's nothing I would change or have different.

In general vastly overpriced for the quality and presentation of the food served when compared to other restaurants in Suances. I ordered Secreto Ibérico ( Iberian pork cut) that was practically all fat. It came with very basic chips and a tiny red pepper (19 Eur). The kids menu prefabricated chicken nuggets (10 Eur) that were overcooked and dry. My daughter gave up on the meal after two nuggets. The Mustard to accompany my husband fillet stake (20 Eur) was the sort you get in a sachet for hot dogs, hardly acceptable. And finally the dessert ( Natillas con galletas) was also out of a packet and promotion was tiny for 5 Eur. Overall very basic food Subpar quality and very little effort into the presentation of the food. This restaurant is more of the menu of the day, definitely there are so many more options available in Suances for this price: La Dársena, Amita, Nada Prebistro, El Bonito Verde.

Yelp
A great place to savour classic and contemporary Asturian dishes. We've been here for their famous fabada but this time we had the Classic Menu with various plates - very good! Priced at 66€ it comes with a several starters, 2 fish dishes, meat, fabada, desserts. We loved it! Great place, refined ambience yet not pretentious, excellent service.

Yelp
One of the most acclaimed restaurants in Asturias, Casa Gerardo is a "must visit" and serves excellent classic Asturian dishes from fabada to arroz con leche. Fish dishes are perfectly executed and the sommalier is a well trained professional with excellent (and affordable) recommendations. On a recent visit, service was good though the culinary experience, when deviating from the classics, left room for improvement. Among the appetizers, the clams (almejas) were a bit off and fish broth was not great. Among the entrees, the pitu de caleya (organic free range chicken) left a lot to be desired. The roasted lamb, fabada, rice with octupus and sea urchin and the grilled hake, however, were all excellent. And the arroz con leche is indeed one of Spain's very best. Visit Casa Gerardo and stick to the Asturian classic dishes. You will not be disappointed.
