"Located just a few metres from the cathedral, Casa Marcelo is the reward for many pilgrims when they complete the legendary Camino de Santiago and is worthy recompense (some would even say it is a religious experience in itself!) for all their exertions. This cosmopolitan setting, in which the chefs interact with guests, features a large central table with a convivial ambience (a nod to the friendly spirit of the Galician people), a counter to one side, a kitchen that is part of the dining room and, to the rear, a pleasant terrace full of vegetation, where you’ll also find a bright and colourful glass-fronted dining room. The cooking is showcased on a concise yet fun à la carte that is particularly designed for sharing alongside the chef’s recommendations, in which elements of surprise and fusion, a mix of Galician and Japanese ingredients, plus a nod to the food cultures of China, Mexico, Peru and elsewhere all play their part. Booking is essential." - Michelin Inspector

What a place! It’s the second time I have been and it’s truly a memorable experience from the service to the food, it’s incredible. Luis the chef was super welcoming, great listener and treats the local produce with so much care and ultimately delightful food. The menu constantly changes and they ask for honest feedback. Also Brian was fantastic through the whole experience explaining all the details. If you are going to Santiago and want a special and memorable experience 100% recommend it Would go back again and again!

This is where my Spain culinary journey ended. I spent 9 nights between Barcelona, Madrid and Santiago de Compostela and was able to get a reservation to do 8 menu tastings. I ended up getting in to another one unscheduled so it became a total of 9. This was hands down the best one of all 9. All around. From where they seated me which was right in front of the kitchen where I got to watch the whole team prepare everything. To ALL the wine I indeed up downing. To how beyond delicious every dish that came out was - and there was a total of 8, 6 food and 2 desserts. The experience starts with a refreshing mocktail paired with a spoon of whatever that was that opened up my palate and got me ready for what was ahead of me. After the soup was the tastiest oyster I’ve ever had in my life. It was so tasty and perfectly seasoned. I loved every bite of every single plate that got dropped off. Don’t even get me started on their brioche. It was so good I got another piece. The gambitas was super delicate it practically melted in your mouth. The next two dishes were so bomb that I was so full by the time we got to the chicken. After that were the two desserts. The service was above and beyond. From the moment I sat down, to the in between dishes where someone comes by to clean up your area or checks in to make sure everything was going well, to my exit- the whole staff were so accommodating. The sommelier took such great care of me. He was challenged after I specifically asked to only be given Spanish wine. Chef Marcelo takes the time to speak to every diner. He made sure to check in here and there and he sends you off at the end of your meal. Truly, one of the best experiences. I can’t wait to come back to see what other dishes Chef Marcelo has come up with.

Great atmosphere, i liked the colors/decor. The food was very creative and could taste a lot of layers of different flavors some of them had a touch of Asian flavors. We had a lovely dinner to close off and celebrate the end of our Camino trip. The service was absolutely 5 stars! Brian was amazing! And the sommelier as well. The chef Luis was very relaxed and he really made us feel at home. We Highly recommend this restaurant.

Google
Casa Marcelo was truly a marvel. The international staff was fantastic and friendly, the food was absolutely world-class, the wines were perfectly paired with the food, the atmosphere was cozy, and the Chef’s Table was definitely an added plus! We’ve had some incredible meals over the last 50+ years all over the world and this was definitely in the top 5. Kudos to all at Casa Marcelo. There’s a reason they’ve had a Michelin Star since 1999 (!!!)

Google
Second visit and absolutely no let down. I love this place. Service is always so personal (but you have to open up and interact with people). Food is creative and perfectly crafted one by one. It is my Compostella!

Google
This place is amazing. I had the 8 course menu, which was so creative and tasty. As well as to seafood, which was to be expected in Galicia; i had pidgeon, which was the best since that sadly long closed Pidgeon restaurant in Hong Kong. The atmosphere is very communal, which is great for a solo traveller. You will have to make a reservation.

Google
I thought the food was truly excellent. I sat at the counter and was able to watch the preparations. It was lunchtime but was busy. Service was very friendly and and yet efficient without being rushed. My only complaint would be that the ‘glass’ of wine was a small amount for the price.

Google
Casa Marcelo, 1 Michelin star, very well located, very good food and excellent wine! The young chef is very talented and attentive, he goes to the table twice, before and after the meal, he will question about your taste and dislikes to adjust the fixed menu, that’s very clever. The bonito, gambas de Huelva, oyster and Lubina dishes, all 4 were incredible, it felt like a 2 Michelin star place, it’s not easy to make 4 out of 6 remarkable dishes. They have some classics, but they change the menu every 2 weeks. We will come back.

Yelp
Michelin Star fresh and quality driven by the chef. Love the way I was treated like family. This group of guys are phenomenal. This is a can miss while visiting St. James!

Yelp
This place is amazing! I've been to several Michelin restaurants and I must confess this was the best. From making our reservations to completing our dining, I was overwhelmed. Great atmosphere, great food and wine. Luis, Marcos and Ramiro treated us so special we will recommend this restaurant to everyone we know coming to Santiago de Compostela.

Gary S.

Yelp
Exceptionally good food and service. The place was crowded and we still were in and out in 60 Minutes. I need a rematch!

Yelp
One of the best meals I've ever had! We went as our end of Camino celebratory meal and it was incredible. We arrived an hour early to our reservation because the Pilgrim mass was shorter than expected and they seated us right away. The staff was accommodating and friendly and the food was incredible. It is a very special place and reasonably priced for the caliber of meal. Be prepared that you are served what the chef chooses (with the opportunity to share any allergies or preferences).

Yelp
If food can make you happy? The food at Casa Marcelo will make you crazy happy!!! The experience is amazing! I had lunch... and to be honest - I ate too much... I had an oyster, one dumpling, fois gras, beef tartare, role with red tuna... I drank white wine and a beer... and had 1,5 desserts... one based on berries and the most delicious cake - it was so fluffy, light and delicate!!! And a coffee... Now 1,5 hour later I am so full that I can hardly move... And then the bill... 63,10 euro... I feared it would be double. I am so happy and grateful for this meal!!!

Yelp
We've had our share of fine dining and in my limited opinion, Casa Marcelo may have been the best dining experience for us! I would give them few more stars more than Michelin star gave them. This place don't take reservations and dining is a shared table (2 sessions 8:30pm and 10:30pm), usually there's a long wait but we got lucky since it was on a weeknight and even got a spot at the chef's table. You know you're in for a treat when the outside is just a plane building without any signs except on a little window and no set menu. As soon as we got seated, head Chef Martin asked us if we have any food allergy and any food we prefer not to eat and. Once that's established, he customized an exquisite menu just for you (6-8 dishes) and then the magic begins!!!

Yelp
Wow! Just walked over 800 km on the Camino de Santiago and went looking for a celebratory meal. We stumbled upon this place and they made room for us! Chef comes out with a menu, returned, and we were still debating. He says I'll make a menu for you, tells us to trust him! We are always game for an impromptu tasting menu! The service and food were amazing! Galician food with an Asian twist! Well done Casa Marcelo! Just the thing two pilgrims needed at the end of their journey!

Yelp
This place is fabulous! Low key, chill, and the quality of the food is on point! I'm a huge fan of being able to go to a restaurant casually and being welcomed with warmth, attentiveness, and attention to detail and service. We came to the restaurant a few minutes before open and was able to get two seats at the counter. Everything we tasted was fresh, balanced, and full of flavor. When you sit down, they make up a menu for you and gauge your pace and whether you'd like more or you're finished. We ordered a bottle and asked that they choose what they thought would fit best for the meal. They definitely wanted to make sure you were satisfied. Loved the atmosphere, the quality of the food and ingredients, and the attention to detail in service. Never would have thought a restaurant like this would exist in an unassuming charming area. I'd love to come back just to try all of the other items we couldn't fit into the list today! Loved every minute of it.

Yelp
Best restaurant I have ever eaten at- In the world! Chef martine and his team provide an exquisite menu designed just for you. Top quality ingredients. Innovative presentation. The theatrics of watching the preparation is mesmerising. Cannot recommend highly enough. I will return to Santiago just to eat st this restaurant.

Yelp
Interesting restaurant with mostly good food, and a very casual service. I want to preface this review by saying that because this is a 1 Michelin star restaurant, I do hold out to a certain expectation. Also, as expected my rating is mostly based on quality to cost ratio. I tried to make a reservation, but it seems only parties of 8 or more can make a reservation, so you have to try your luck at a walk in. Worked fine fort me, in fact, I was one of 5 at the time of my arrival. The Chef personally goes to guests to and takes their order or offers to make a set menu for them. Absolutely loved that hospitality. I opt for him to create the menu for me. The food was just above average, and way beneath my expectations. Out of the 7 courses, 3 were great, 1 was good, 3 were low grade gastropub quality. At this price, at this level, hitting 50/50 on the dishes is disappointing for me. Check was 50€ which isn't huge overall, but comparative to the area, it is. The service was mind numbingly casual, but polite, and did well to explain dishes in English. I cannot understand what the Michelin inspectors were thinking when he assigned a star to this restaurant, but they have it. If this restaurant didn't have a Michelin star I would have given them 4/5, alas the Michelin star will sway more people than mine anyway!

Yelp
This is hands down my favorite restaurant I've been to in my ENTIRE LIFE. I keep telling my fiancé when we hike the Camiño together we are going here after. When I went we had 5 of us. The chefs asked us about any restrictions which we did not have - I remember we had the oyster, sashimi, fish and at least 4 other things with 5 bottles of wine for about 320 euros which is INSANE for a Michelin restaurant. The only reason to not go here is if Asian fusion isn't you're thing

Robert A.

Yelp
Amazing restaurant. Don't miss it. They open for dinner at 8:30 and if want to get in at the opening you need to be on line by 8:10. One of the most imaginative restaurants I have ever been to. Let the waiter get you the dinner of the night. It was 7 courses which included dessert. House wines are excellent and very reasonably priced. Truly a memorable dinner.

Sean R.

Yelp
Feel so lucky to sit at the chefs table and enjoy the great experience! Each dish was really well executed. We had the chef pick the courses and wine for us. The restaurant has a white wine labeled for them and it paired well with all the courses. The squid, artichoke with foie, spicy tuna (made fresh to order!), oysters, sea bass, passion fruit dessert, dumplings, and beef tartare were all amazing. Seriously, this experience was world class! Highly recommended to the fusion foodie!

Yelp
This is an informal with a well earned Michelin star restaurant. I will count as a plus that they do not take reservations, it is first come first serve, so you can just go whenever you are in the mood without having to get a reservation weeks in advance or have to give your credit card information and get charged if you don't show. Very friendly service, which I feel it is kind of refreshing and a nice change from the stuffy service you would get at other fine dining stablishments. Food is great and they will guide you through their menu if you are not familiar with it. I think the Asian fusion label that yelp gave this place it isn't accurate. Some dishes may have Asian inspiration, but not all and they are made with local ingredients. Wine made specially for this restaurant by local wineries are served here and had the chance to try it and I will say they are pretty good.

Fernando K.

Yelp
6-course dinner for two with a bottle of wine for 90 euros. Service is great. We sat at the kitchen and the waiter picked for us. We would have gone if it weren't our last night in Santiago. Just make sure you put your name in early, it fills up every night.

Rosita B.

Yelp
This 1 Michelin restaurant may not look like much from the front but it's what's inside that counts!! We had lunch there as part of a Camino tour package and got to sit at the chefs table in the kitchen. The afternoon was spectacular! We started with a light and flavorful tuna in a sesame soy sauce with peppers and olives. Next we had this salad of steamed vegetables with three different kinds of seaweed and in the middle was a soft runny egg. That all sat on a sauce of peanuts and sesame seeds. Break the egg and mix together = heaven! Next we had Dim-Sum de Cachucha y Gambas. The dim-sum was perfectly cooked! Next we had the Shao-Mae de Chorizo Criollo where the meat was seasoned to perfection so when you popped the bite sized portion into your mouth the favors were magical! The next dish we had looked like an onion but it was actually beautifully cooked potatoes on top of egg yolk with bacon sprinkled on top. Next up was a pan cooked fish in a chorizo oil as a sauce. Then we had some sashimi fish on a bed of sticky rice. For the grand finale we had deep friend scorpion fish (Fritura de Cabracho, Pilpil de Aji Amarillios) which we are with our hands and dipped the melt in your mouth flesh into a delightful sauce. This is a fish where you can eat just about everything bones included! To cleanse our palate the lunch ended with a lemon that was cut in half, hallowed out and then it was left to freeze. Once frozen the lemon was filled with a custard, layered with a crunchy gram cracker bits and finished with a meringue topping! Just perfect! I don't have enough words to express how wonderful this place is! If you in town, eat here!!!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I decided that this is our favorite restaurant in the world. We were actually considering flying back solely to eat here again. We would have..except they aren't open on Sunday and Monday which was when we were available. The restaurant is casual and on a Saturday afternoon we had to wait 1 hour for two seats at a communal table (most are communal). I didn't mind the communal table because we could see what everyone else was getting and it was more relaxed that way. When we sat down, we pondered over the menu trying to decide what to get. But then our waiter came up to us and told us that he would be choosing all of our dishes and just wanted to know what we wanted to drink. What!?!?! So we got a bottle of Albarino and hoped for the best. And we got the best, the most perfect, curated meal I have ever had. Japanese, Galician, Peruvian...all in one bite sometimes. I won't spend time explaining each dish because it seemed like they decided to give each group something different. We enjoyed the atmosphere so much we stuck around for coffees afterward . Little tip: Almost all staff members speak perfect English, but they actually let me flubber around in Spanish for a bit until I finally asked if they spoke English. :)

Yelp
This is my ultimate favourite restaurant in Santiago and I've eaten there at least a dozen times. The fusion food (Japanese / Mexican etc) using local produce is fun and absolutely delicious, as is the wine and the liquor de hierba at the end of the meal. Marcelo is often there and is a lovely man. Really stand out restaurant in a city full of terrific restaurants.

T N.

Yelp
We got a seat at the counter and let chef chose menu for us. He asked our preferences and surprised us with ~5 fantastic small/medium dishes and wine. Steak tartar was fantastic! It is pricey, but serves delicacies and worth every penny you pay.

Gary R.

Yelp
My son and I got to eat at the kitchen counter and watch everything come together. Martin, the chef, was utterly charming while running a perfect operation. The food, creative and delicious, was perfect in every way, too. This was the best dining experience we've ever had. I hope to come to Santiago again, not least because I very much want to return to Casa Marcelo.

Jackie H.

Yelp
OMG! So amazing!! We walked in around 8:30 and we're lucky enough to get the last seats at the giant table that seats 26. The restaurant has one giant table, 6 seats at the bar and an open kitchen concept. It is so small and intimate and you truly feel like you're at someone's house eating their food except that it's a 5 star dining experience! The chef greeted us and asked about dietary preferences. I'm a lactose intolerant vegetarian and my husband eats everything, so the chef told us he would create a menu for us based off of that info. It was spectacular! The fried leek/potato (not sure what it was, that was the English word used) w egg yolk was AMAZING! The cherry tomato salad w ajo blanco and sorbeto rocoto was OUT OF THIS WORLD amaaazing! My husband was shocked that it was 1. Vegetarian and 2. Dairy free! It was so good! I especially like that the cuisine is global fusion and it's truly pieces of art and not one particular style of food. It was so incredible I recommend everyone go there! We walked out paying 73€ for a many course custom menu and no alcohol. I'd say expect €45 each with alcohol.

Luke M.

Yelp
Best restaurant experience ever. Fabulous food and wait staff. Open kitchen style and about 35 seat dining, allowed head chef to interact with customers and he can be very entertaining. Sit at the bar if possible, when I say best experience ever, I also mean watching the interaction and hard work off all the help. Go immediately upon opening or approx hour and a half into service in order to have a chance at service....no reservations for less than 8 party. Just go and don't be afraid to try new things, they are experts!

Linnea H.

Yelp
Apparently has closed. No signs of life, only scribbled phone number on the door on 11 November 2016. Passers y said it was "finished." Can't say more.

Robert D.

Yelp
My meal here was sublime. I had six courses including desert, and each course was a unique flavor combination. I was lucky enough to get a seat at the counter overlooking the kitchen. I let the extremely talented young chef select dishes for me. This restaurant is a standout.
