18 Best Hotels and Resorts in California, From Malibu to Napa Valley

"There are golf resorts, and then there’s Casa Palmero at Pebble Beach. The course, Pebble Beach Golf Links, opened more than 100 years ago in 1919, and has enjoyed as long and storied a history as any. The resort, a former private residence that opened in 1999, is directly on the course—rooms overlook the first and second fairways—making it an absolute dream for golfers. But Casa Palmero offers so much more than tee times. The rooms have a countryside vibe—spacious with woodburning fireplaces, exposed ceiling beams, and wrought iron fixtures, the Spa at Pebble Beach offers award-winning service. Plus, it’s only a five-minute walk down to the peaceful beach."

Casa Palmero at Pebble Beach | World's best golf hotels

"Most people come to this part of the world for one reason: the world-famous Pebble Beach Golf Links course, which stretches along the rocky shoreline. It’s been voted the No 1 public course in the US, and has hosted 6 US Opens. Of the three hotels at Pebble Beach, Casa Palmero is the classiest; once a private home, this 1920’s Spanish Colonial house has 24 elegant rooms surrounding a fountain-filled courtyard. The palette of honey, taupe and carnelian evokes a soothing Med vibe, but it’s the little touches that really make this place stand out, including the dedicated services manager who’ll get in touch before you check in to help with everything from tee times to restaurant reservations. Casa Palermo is an amazing place to stay. Location was excellent, staff and service was exemplary and the ground are beautiful. We appreciated breakfast served daily to our room, the 5 to 7 Happy Hour with appetizers and the cordial 8 to 9:30 was wonderful. These amenities include in the cost of your stay. Staying at here enabled us to obtain tee times only a year out.

We had the best time at this Mediterranean gem near Pebble Beach! The room was cozy with a fireplace and soaking tub, plus our suite had a private hot tub on the patio—what a treat! Breakfast baskets were a sweet surprise, and we enjoyed evening cocktails at the lounge. The shuttle to the nearby spa was such a bonus. A perfect mix of luxury and laid-back fun for couples!

They spoil you here! Casa Palmera hotel is right next to Pebble Beach lodge. It is on the first tee of pebble Beach. They bring free breakfast in bed, along with white tablecloths and a flower. You don’t even have to check in at the front desk when you get here. When you get to the booth on the famous 17 mile drive, they radio down and let the hotel know you are coming. A concierge meets you when you pull in and takes you right to your room. They take you anywhere you want to go in a Tesla. I went to darling Carmel yesterday to shop. Free happy hour at 5 pm with amazing food, free pastry and nightcap hour at 8 pm, all included, Turn down maid service at night, and it is the only hotel in Pebble Beach where you can go to the amazing spa without getting a service. It has a fireplace and an outdoor hot tub in our suite. It only has 24 rooms so they are just sitting around to see if I need anything. My husband played pebble beach yesterday and Spy Glass Hill today. I am not sure why you would leave this place however.

Perfect service and a wonderful spot. The concierge gave us a great tip on where to have dinner.

One of the most amazing accomodation experiences we have ever had! The service at Casa Palmero really cannot be described. We stayed for three nights in August 2024, and played Pebble Beach Golf Course during our stay. From the moment you arrive at Casa Palmero, you enter a world of relaxation and experience amazing service from the entire team. Upon arrival we were greeted by Michael who gave us a full tour of the resort, providing history about the building and complimentary (and paid) services available. Including the snack bars, complimentary daily in room breakfast, complimentary cocktail hours among others. Michelle was very helpful in organising any additional bookings or services in the lead up to our arrival, and was very friendly on site. Martin was always going above and beyond to see if there is anything he could assist with or if we needed anything. All of the staff at Casa Palmero go above and beyond for their guests and it really shows, it is potentially the best service we have ever received. The food at dinner was exceptional, the daily in-room breakfast was also very good. The spa facilities were also amazing, although we did not have any spa services, we were able to use the general services such as sauna, ice bath, hot tub, etc. During our ~5 week trip through the USA, this was the only place that we really didn’t want to leave at the end of our stay… We will definitely be back to Pebble Beach and would not hesitate to book Casa Palmero again. If you are considering staying, you will not regret it.

Amazing service all around. The staff couldn’t have been more attentive and nice. The rooms are incredible. The private hot tub is a great bonus. We can’t wait to come back! Oh and the golf isn’t bad either ; )

We stayed two nights with friends in late Sept . Wives enjoyed a lovely day at the on-site spa while my friend and I played a round of golf. Service is incredible, rooms are very spacious and upscale. Would definitely recommend staying here over the other two course properties. |Only disappointment was our dinner at one of their restaurants The Bench that serves all three property hotels as we did not feel it matched the quality in decor and offerings of the golf course and accomodation.

We love it here. We stayed here for our first honeymoon night and will be staying again Aug 2019 for my birthday. It’s a small, beautiful, and well-appointed set of buildings with excellent amenities and superb service. It feel very private, exclusive, and luxurious to be there, with always plenty to do. We had drinks and danced in the library while I was still in my wedding gown. It’s a magical place!

Yelp
This is a beautiful property. The kids loved the hot tub that was right outside of our room, and I can also it as a romantic wind down spot without the kids. I loved their wine and scotch social, while the kids enjoyed the desserts. The spa was lovely with all the amenities, steam, sauna, and hot tub. We all went to the main pool where the kids had a lot of fun as well. A great property for a romantic getaway or just to relax with little ones (10yr and younger).

Yelp
I'm not sure how to express how amazing my recent stay was at Casa Palmero. From the top notch service to perfectly crisp linens, I have zero complaints. Zero. Located on hole 2 of the pebble beach golf course, Casa Palemro is perfect for those of you looking to stay on property but have a bit of privacy too. There are 24 casitas/rooms, an epic spa and great little cafe on property if you're looking to keep it a bit healthy. They also have a great happy hour from 5-7 if you're staying in property and it's full of stiff drinks and great apps. Massive shout outs to Dave & Michael for being such gracious and attentive staff members. They truest made the week special and took the overall experience to the next level. Thanks a bunch, we will see you next year!

Yelp
They take your money up front including a 20% gratuity. Smooth & silky pedicure plus an express manicure was a total of $220 dollars. Oy. I could have gotten a pedicure & manicure for $60 dollars elsewhere that would have been virtually the same except for less moisturizing steps and a less fancy chair. They do not have bottled water to offer to drink. The real reason though that made this not something i'd recommend was the fact that they do hair blow dry's in the same room as they do the pedicures and manicures. So instead of being in a relaxing environment for the whopping price, you are surrounded by the irritating roar of a blow dryer during your service. The juice bar said the green drink I liked was $9.50 but then the lady behind the counter said it would be $12.50 including tax and gratuity. Pass. If i'd gone to one of the day spas in nearby Carmel by the sea or Monterey, I could have gotten a 50 minute swedish massage, a pedicure/manicure AND a green drink for under $220. And no blow drying noise. So... pleasant as the technician was, and clean as all the equipment was, given that it was noisy - it's just not worth it in my personal opinion.

Yelp
Casa Palamero what can I say but thank you for such an Amazing Birthday experance. The Champagin was such a nice touch in my room and the fire place made my day! Mike thank for taking care of my Maz and your friendly smile. I can't say enough about the staff and the new guy at happy hour you know who you are. The Spa is one of the best in California and my favorite thus far, The quiet room with the fire place is the best. Amazing facials thank you Marla for your kindness and Grace. Yelp
This place has really gone downhill in the last year or two. The tourists may not know the difference, but the locals are repeat customers. We see when the quality goes down. Take today, for example. The spa was PACKED. There's a certain point at which too many people make the spa stressful, not relaxing. Every room except the dedicated quiet room was loud. A sauna shouldn't be loud. There were just too many people. I couldn't even get to my locker because there was someone at every locker surrounding me every time I needed to access it. Later I felt like they rushed through the whole pedicure process. They were running late so they skipped the foot massage. That's a big reason why the pedicures used to be good here, because let's face it, I can paint my own toenails. I can't give myself a foot massage. Then, they barely gave me any time to let my polish dry before the next appointment, so of course my polish got messed up. Seriously, I've had better pedicures at the cheaper places in downtown Monterey. Save your money, ladies. This place is no longer worth the extra money.

Yelp
We stayed here and let me tell you, this is AS GOOD AS IT GETS! This place will always have a special place in my heart for many reasons. First, my then boyfriend surprised me with a weekend here and I was just blown away in more ways than one. The minute we pulled into the half circle driveway, we were immediately greeted with our very own personal attendant who checked us in, took us to our room and even ordered lunch for us. Every desire and need was attended to and half of the time, we didn't even ask. This is not a hotel that we'd frequent regularly, but he took me here with the intention to propose. Every step of the way, I was clueless. The room was unbelievable. Rustic but at the same time very classy and elegant. The bathroom was dreamlike and had a jacuzzi tub that fit two. It was pretty cool. The grounds are manicured beautifully and you can literally eat off the floor, it was so clean. They had a game room and a sitting room that made you feel like you should smoke a cuban cigar. We don't smoke but it seemed like the right thing to do. What we loved the best was the fact that there aren't very many rooms here so you really felt that you had this place to ourselves. The spa - well, lets just say that it's nothing short of fantastic. They give you a glass of champagne and a small plate of strawberries while youre getting your pedi and manicure. I mean, this is how everyone should be treated in life!!! I had no idea that the staff was in on the whole "proposal" thing - I was clueless. In the end, they helped my husband create one of the most magical moments in life. They set up a nice, private area where we had dinner brought to us and there he got down on bended knee. Of course, I said yes! I know that we got a little "extra special treatment" because they were in on the big plan -- but I honestly think that if we went back, we'd get the same level of service. No detail is overlooked! It's very pricey to stay here but if we ever save enough money to go here again, I'd do so in a heartbeat. This is by far the best place that I've ever stayed and will always have a special place in my heart. I hope you can visit this place and create memories of your own.

Yelp
This place is amazing. The customer service, staff and accommodations are all top-notch. The walking trails are beautiful and the restaurants in the resort are great. This is really a can't miss type place.

Yelp
Back from anniversary trip to Pebble Beach and stay at Casa Palermo. We had most amazing experience there-the staff, breakfast, the grounds, the happy hour, the service and room were top notch. Amazing amazing and we will return.

Yelp
Spa is awesome unbelievable! The Day pass is $50 and so nice. Ramona best pedicure around and super friendly, love her. She knows how to pamper and make you feel like a million bucks my calfs, feet and toes look fabulous

Yelp
Only the best. Casa Palmero enchants the guest upon arrival with a charmed greeting by the Valet and from there the romantic visit blossoms into a spectacular getaway. The stone pathway lures the traveler through the grounds of a quaint Spanish castillo to the door of your new home away from home. The rooms are hideaways from the rest of the world with an abundant of amenities- mini bar snacks (included, no extra charge), jacuzzi on your private patio. Interiors are eloquently decorated to accommodate the young and seasoned. Thank you Tanya and your staff, David x 2, Michael, Robert (golf guy) and Matt.

Yelp
I have been to Pebble Beach on several occasions and I continue to use Casa Palmero and The Lodge as my top hotels that I compare all other hotels to. I am beyond shocked that this hotel does not have five stars. It seems like most of the reviewers were disappointed in the spa. I think that should be a separate review because, based on my stays, the hotel potion is beyond fabulous! First of all, the service is amazing. The valets and the people who greet you at the door make a point to remember your name and I was always greeted me by it! Having worked in the hospitality industry I know how hard this must be! I realize they don't have very many rooms, but guests come and go all the time. The rooms are amazing! The rooms on the ground floor get an outside private jacuzzi. Everything at this hotel feels very private. Doors are not right next to each other, and the buildings are spaced so that it feels more like you are walking into a house instead of a hotel room. The housekeeping staff are so nice and friendly! This is the first hotel I've ever been to where the housekeeping staff are not just hidden away, but actually attend to the guests. The turndown service is amazing also. They turn music on, they'll light you a fire, and you get apples and chocolates replenished throughout your stay. Lastly, if you've never been to Pebble Beach, you are missing out! The grounds are amazing and so peaceful. The views are gorgeous and the weather is usually perfect for my tastes. This place is my favorite place in the world. If I could stay anywhere it would be here!

Yelp
Casa Palmero is such a beautiful place.... too bad that was 3 or more years ago. Stayed here last wkend again and was VERY disappointed!& I've been coming here for YEARS! as of now: The service and most of the staff: unhelpful, snobbier than the people who come to Pebble. Our $ 64 room service of french onion soup and a steak sandwich was not even luke warm and took an hour or so to arrive...when I very very nicely asked to return the food to the Kitchen to be warmed they snarkily replied "um....well... we're going to have to DRIVE that back to the Tap Room at the Lodge Mrs. and we can't control what temp. the food will be at when it gets BACK to you....is THAT what you REALLY want us to do?" Like I was joking or something! I was disgusted. Moving on... The spa environment: Loud and crowded. CRAZY. I have pretty well-behaved small kids under 5 so I should be used to it right? No, the 6 or so unsupervised screaming adolescent brats in the locker room made my children look like sedate senior citizens. The manager came in and talked to them and as soon as she left they were at it again..figures! I could not even get into the steam room there were so many people and kids going in and out..it was like a crappy hotel pool changing room in Vegas. AWFUL! . Spa treatment (IE pedi, massages): Mediocre...should have gone to neo nails for 3/4 the price with a better service. Massage: LAZY lady who took 5 minutes or more to pump the lotion in her hand and walk from one side of the table to the next touching my back!! !Mind you I had a 45 minute massage.bleh. The "world class spa" does NOT live up to it's name anymore. The facilities are in the early stages of over-use....stained tile...calcium deposits...rust....towels on the floor everywhere not to mention in the in the sauna..trash and water all over the floors..deep scratches in the walls Screaming running kids mmm NO. not workin. and ehem...WHAT did you say the total was?:0 Okay the rooms are absolutely gorgeous! my hope is that they will stay this way for years to come when my kids are grown with their children..cause who'll care about me anymore? I'm just "mom" hehe I did however notice that someone in a room across from ours had either thrown something through the window or punched it in...it was quite funny and out of place for that "nice" of a place!---- and it definitely WAS NT a golf ball that went thru that window either! hehe. Anyways I feel like this review was pretty negative but hey I'm honest and I have more respect for hard-earned money than this. I'd rather be the guinea pig for some other poor couple who comes to CP "as of now" and feels like they broke their wallet for nothing great and BAD service..maybe we came on a bad wkend? I don't know..we had a GREAT time despite all of this uneccessary weird bullshit. PB and the sorounding areas are BEAUTIFUL AMAZING AND AWESOME and the BS of Casa Palmero does not reflect Carmel at all it's just where we stayed (but still!!!!)! If you or you partner enjoy/play golf, the Lodge at PB would be a fun little weekend getaway/date... great shopping for us girls (guys, too!!!)..Very doggie-friendly...DOGS EVERYWHERE! we used to bring our Labs and they loved the beach and playing with all the other dogs there...Not very young children- friendly however as noted in my Spa environment review haha no, but...not a lot for young kids to do besides go to the beach (maybe that's enough but probably not for my kids-they're BUSY..they have agendas, too!!! and there a couple cool toy stores, too. Anyways this concludes my review...sorry for all of the typos wait- I really don't care because I know I'm well-edu'd and DGAF (reasonably) what anybody thinks!!!!! hopefully next time will be better...should we even RISK staying here again? I'm all for second chances but.......Oh, my gosh! What an experience that was...

Yelp
This place is great. I go here all the time with my mom while my stepdad plays golf. I love it. They had their wedding at The Inn at Spanish Bay and I have been going ever since I was 12. I love their rose facial, amaaaahhhzzzing.

Yelp
Another wonderful stay at Casa Palmero.... there are not enough superlatives to describe this experience. We wish that Nathan was back... he was the best*

Cosimo B.

Yelp
Ask for Sarah, she is the best nail technician. If she's not available ask for Nikki, Nicole, or Ramona. The spa is awesome, but the provider makes all the difference. The facilities are clean, very relaxing, and organization of services are fab!!!

Sophie R.

Yelp
Excellent hotel for holidays, the views are amazing and the hotel is very clean and private, we stayed only for one night but we will definitely will be back.

Yelp
My parents, husband, and I were here a few weeks ago. It was really great. If you're looking for somewhere where people will be all over and formally ask what they can do for you, this isn't the place. If you want to be left alone and have the freedom to reach out if you need anything, this is ideal. My parents had a spa room and it was really awesome. The only bad thing is that there's not air conditioning. It's cool there. But, at night, when you close the patio door, it can get stuffy in the room. But I heard they'll be fixing that issue with updates to the property soon. I'm glad we stayed there as opposed to the Lodge. Most of the Lodge rooms seem to look at the parking lot. It was nice to just have a quiet patio with a spa and fountain. I'm not going to deny that it's over priced. But we don't regret it. It was a great experience. Oh, and if you're golfing, get a 25min golf stretch next door. My husband said it really helped his swing.
