Casa Playa, Peyote, Superfrico, and Chickie’s & Pete’s reveal their opening dates | Eater Vegas

"Opening Thursday, September 16 at Encore Las Vegas, this coastal Mexican restaurant brings a playful vibe with executive chef Sarah Thompson serving her own menu inspired by the grilled seafood found at hidden playacitas along the Mexican shoreline; Thompson calls her menu a “culinary adventure,” aiming to balance creativity with tradition. Wynn resort mixologist Mariena Mercer Boarini created daring cocktails, and assistant general manager and agave expert Noah Arenstein curated a robust mezcal and tequila collection." - Susan Stapleton

Casa Playa is my favorite local spot for Mexican food! I live in town and I come here all the time for their chilaquiles breakfast plate. The green and red sauce are both so good, I can never choose. Food is fresh and flavorful. Service is top notch. Bonus points for a generous self-serve salsa bar with nearly 10 flavors/types of salsa that you can't find anywhere else. Don't sleep on Casa Playa if you're in Redondo Beach.

This Mexican spot is located on the west side of Catalina at the corner of S Elena in Riviera Village. The decor is very authentic for a taco shop you might find in Mexico and it feels inviting and relaxed. We had grilled and crispy fish tacos which were both delicious. The loaded Carnitas burrito was just the right size, filling but not overwhelming. Nothing tasted greasy or fatty and everything was very fresh and flavorful. They have a nice salsa bar with half a dozen levels of heat to keep everyone happy. The food here is just good, and they use quality ingredients that you can taste the difference. Service was friendly and efficient so it is easy to get in and out if you need to do a quick lunch. The summary is fresh, tasty, food at a reasonable price with great service. Must try if you are a fan of Mexican food.

Google
We had thought of going here and after looking at other places along the street this one still looked very appealing. I got a California burrito, chimichanga style with carne asada, and my wife got a 2-taco lunch plate (one carne asada, one chicken) with rice and refried beans. Food was very good and satisfying, especially the chimichanga. The meats, both carne asada and chicken were good and the texture was more finely cut than chunks, as we usually see for Mexican dishes. Staffer was nice and atmosphere was fun, including cute names for different salsas at the little salsa bar.

Google
Casa Playa was already one of our favorite places when we decided to use them to cater our daughter’s third birthday party. The food was delicious and the service was superb. Among many things, we got a tray of the crunchy chicken tacos based on the restaurant’s recommendation, and they were the hit of the party. I would not hesitate to use their catering service again. The value was incredible.

Google
Friendly staff. Awesomely obscure drink collection. Had a California burrito with asada. Probably the cheesiest cali I’ve ever had which was terrific. Asada was fine so I’ll try a different protein next time. It isn’t “must have” but as a local, I’ll be back.

Google
Welcoming staff, great food and excellent salsa bar. We got some street tacos, a burrito and a carnitas plate. The carnitas and pastor were fresh and flavorful. Good chips and a variety of salsas from the self serve salsa bar, yum. 10/10

Google
This place has a beachy casual vibe. I always seem to find parking in the metered spaces. their servings are generous with good selection of salsa, and I love their tostadas to use as chips. Friendly and fast but it can get busier during peak meal times. It is one of my favorites for fat burritos. Recommendation for a stop after or in the middle of a beach walk.

Google
Mediocre at best. Staff with no personality. The food is nothing like it used to be. My taco was drowning in lettuce, hard to find. Gave it another shot but will never be what it was. They also changed the signature salsa.

Yelp
I had a BOGO free coupon for my birthday so I had to use it before it expired. I got the taquitos plate for myself and it might not look like a lot of food but it was. Everything was delicious! This also came with some chips and salsa. My fiancee got the birria tacos. He said they were good.

Yelp
Casa Playa is a cute spot for a quick dinner with friends or family. We sat at the bar, and the place had a chill, casual vibe. Only parking option is valet, luckily it was just $5 and they took Apple Pay--huge win. We ordered the chicken tacos, and honestly the meat tasted just like the chicken from Angel Stadium's helmet nachos, so I'd probably try a different protein next time. It's a solid spot for a quick and cheap meal, and chips and salsa are included, which is always a plus.

Yelp
A cool casual place for Mexican food. We are here to try their $2.35 Taco Tuesday street tacos (regular $3.59). Overall experience was pretty good, tacos are tasty, and the service was excellent. The salsa bar provides 6 delicious options from mild to volcano, and one called Salma Hayek! Complementary chips is definitely a plus!! Note: for the Taco Tuesday deal, the ASADA and a couple meat options were not available, which is a disappointment since it's our preferred and the other stores offer it.

Lu L.

Yelp
Definitely not the best street corn, menu states they put cojita cheese it had queso fresco. Also got really sick after eating this, something wasn't right.
google avatar

Kristin C.

Yelp
I usually come for the Baja Fish Tacos; they're a good size, delicious and filling! I wanted to try their street tacos and birria tacos one day. Carne asada street taco was yummy, but the birria was so burnt i couldn't even take a bite. Disappointed but I'm thinking i just caught them on a bad day though so would still go back.

Yelp
Heard about this place from a coworker and decided to give it a try. Staff was very friendly and gave great service. I ordered the carne asada deluxe burrito and added green sauce. The green sauce was a bit salty for me and the burrito barely had any meat in it or the meat was shredded so fine it was overwhelmed by the rice and beans. So I didn't taste any meat. Overall, probably won't go back considering there's so many great Mexican restaurants in the South Bay that do it better.

Yelp
I think when we ordered nachos, they thought we said nacho soup. With maybe 5 chips sticking out of the top, and maybe 5 chips at the bottom, my 10 chip nacho was more of a stew than a nacho. However, the flavor was good. Add some chips and they got something there. My wife got chilaquiles and those were pretty good. The place was well decorated, there were a lot of customers, and the food came out quick.

Yelp
I took my parents there for Sunday brunch, to celebrate their 47th wedding anniversary. The place has a great relaxed vibe and the service was excellent, very friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious and their mimosas were perfect. This is definitely a good place to meet with friends and family or even a nice date. Try their French toast it's a must have.

Liza S.

Yelp
Brunch menu now on Sundays! Amazing The family got the Omelette, the Pancakes, the French Toast, and the Carnitas Bowl. Highly recommend for warm brunch food on a sleepy Sunday. Great portions and nice atmosphere. Start with a mimosa and stay a while. The service is great - very attentive to meal adjustments if needed.

Yelp
Skip the fast food chain Mexican restaurants and head here for delicious, freshly made food. Small spot with limited seating but we always manage to get a place to sit. If you buy the alcohol you do need to sit inside. Best flautas I've had in a while! Delicious beans and variety of salsas. Bonus that they generously support local schools and nonprofits so another reason to support this family owned restaurant as well!

Yelp
Been eating at CP for the past 15 yrs, always enjoyed the food, decided to grab their lunch special two tacos with rice and beans today. Food was excellent service was great. The couple that owned this restaurant are always friendly and have great staff. The food is made fresh to order, the chips and salsa was excellent. I love thin, freshly made tortilla chips and here they give you the whole tortilla fried to break apart yourself. The tacos always have excellent Carne Asada that it's very flavorful can't say enough about this great place and they have a points program that gets you discounts. They also make one of my favorite chili Verde burritos in the world! This is a great place. Don't miss out if you're in the area. And the place was humming has some great ambience.

Yelp
Normally a go to for quick Mexican food that is tasty and flavorful in the village. But yesterday we encountered a rude manager. When asked a question about the quantity of food, he slammed the table and was very rude. It was surprising as it's normally a great atmosphere for a quick bite so perhaps he just had a bad day

Bryan P.

Yelp
The Service is excellent. Salsa is great. Burrito and tacos are da bomb. Love sitting outside people watching while I enjoy my burrito

Yelp
First of all, we just stumbled on this place in Redondo on a sunny day, and it was such a pleasant surprise! Alethea, the owner and manager of this small family-owned business, was so kind and thoughtful! The food (everything was terrific) was prepared as fresh as possible, and the meats, chicken, and pork were cooked and seasoned lightly to perfection. I highly recommend the barbeque pork sandwich and the Tacos Carnitas Street-style, packed with meat and fresh guacamole, and the Caesar salad, made with very fresh and crispy lettuce and a delicious dressing. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the terrific choice of salsas; there is something suitable for everyone, from velvet to dragon tongues! I highly recommend this little spot, and it's worth the wait (if any).

Michael H.

Yelp
Casa Playa is a friendly little Mexican restaurant. The menu has the normal things and a few creative offerings for Vegans and Fish lovers. I stop in frequently for a quick Taco and a beer. Love this place.

Yelp
The food was delicious!! I ordered three ground beef tacos with cheese. The ground beef was seasoned perfectly. The crunchy tacos were very, very delicious. Definitely recommend. The service was excellent. The ambiance was nice too.
google avatar

Fallon G.

Yelp
The chicken tortilla soup is SO good and fresh :) The chicken is grilled so it doesn't feel greasy and heavy. I'm crazy about soup, and this is will be a new go to of mine!!

Michele M.

Yelp
Always excellent good and service and a nice bite before hitting the beach! Highly recommend

Yelp
Birria tacos and broth was the best service was great price was reasonable We are definitely going back and are telling friends all about it.

Yelp
Kristy(sorry if I spelled that wrong) helped us out with a couple breakfast burritos this morning. She was so warm and welcoming, speedy and friendly service! Both burritos had crispy hashbrowns, and in my opinion that makes or breaks a breakfast burrito! They had great flavor and was a decent size. Enough to fill you up but not enough to overeat and feel sluggish. Thanks Kristy and staff!

Yelp
This is a review about a catering order. First of all, everything is delicious! We ordered crispy tacos, salad, beans, rice, corn, and churros. And chips and salsa were free! The catering process was seamless from start to finish. The owner was very prompt with communication, pricing and delivery were very reasonable! Everything was packaged and labeled clearly. They even included utensils. You can't go wrong placing a catering order here. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Yelp
I catered from casa playa for my daughter's first birthday and I have no regrets! They delivered the food, hot and fresh, and even when above and beyond with the wooden signs and set up. The guests all had nothing but great things to say. The chicken tacos were moist and the outer shell remained crunchy. I was afraid of ordering tacos due getting dried out or soggy, but this was not the case. I got corn, quesadillas and several sets of tacos and had plenty leftover too.

Yelp
I WISH I got pictures of this place and the food but I was starving. Vibrant colors and beachy Mexico vibes. My husband had the veggie burrito and he said it was delicious. I had the pozole with beyond meat - soooo good. Next time I will get the big bowl. Chips were nice and crunchy and there's a full salsa bar. They have a variety of alcohol and non-alcohol drinks. The staff was super friendly and attentive. Will be back very soon!

Julie C.

Yelp
This was our first stop after landing at LAX! After 2 weeks in the UK, we couldn't wait to eat here. Best burritos!!

Mark W.

Yelp
Everyone really liked this spot. I had the fajita style fish tacos which were great. Nicely cooked fish, healthy amount of veggies. Also, liked the potato taco, mashed potato in the taco. Family liked the quesadilla stuffed with veggies including corn, which was a hit. I liked the the green salsa a bunch. Staff was super friendly and place was packed.

Peter C.

Yelp
I eat here at least once a week. In addition to the excellent Mexican Cuisine (today I had the Shrimp Fajita Burrito), they make the best cheeseburger in the South Bay. Service is always fast and comes with a smile. Brook and Violet are the best!

Yelp
Let me tell you that my family and I have ordered to go here more than a handful of times in the last year. And everything has been okay. We started going because our kids love crunchy tacos and in a pinch for dinner we just food for the whole family. It's fine, our family is rather neutral on the food it's not amazing nor is it bad, it's fine. We can't say we have opinions on ambiance as we've never sat down there. But it seems like a small intimate situation. I've also oddly never been the one to make the order nor pick it up oddly enough. It's not by design it's just by random consequence. Nothing has ever really stood out to me good or bad according to my wife in terms of service. So why am I posting today? Normally for a place like this I would never take the time but since I've gotten a moment to be annoyed by them, here I am. And well because I've been getting these annoying offers to go here because I signed up for some rewards thing at a nearby coffee shop and finally I got annoyed because I've tried unsubscribing from these Riera's Place offers for the last time and just reported the email as spam. And it also reminded me that I did have a personal experience I'd like to share. So I finally did have my personal experience. I went by to order a quick lunch to go after a meeting I had in Riviera Village. I was excited to finally go myself and pick out something. I decided on a carne asada plate. What happened next might be surprising to all those five star reviews but I then waited for a 1/2 for my food only to find out it was never fired up. I knew something was up when they had already handed out at least 10 orders before mine. I finally escalated it and they said they would make it right then and there. The lost teenager seemed innocent enough but clearly the cook forgot or something. This happens, whatever. But when I escalated it to the manager who happened to be nearby he just said "sorry bud, why don't you grab a soda". I said no thanks and went on my way after he finally discovered my order wasn't even in the pipeline. I paid and went on my way. I didn't check the amount but I assumed they woudl've at least included a discount but nothing. The charge was there. I immediately called back and requested a refund. He literally said that he offered me a soda thinking it was all good. Horse manure of a response. I had to literally request a full refund and he begrudgingly gave it to me. TLDR: Manager was so cocky he thought a free soda offer would cover up their botched order. Key Takeaways For the Business: 1. Don't assume your customer is fine after you offer a free soda for a mistake. 2. Don't try to defend an error that is clearly your own doing. Just own up to it and be honest and empathetic. My Recommendation: This place is aggressively average.

Yelp
If you are in the Redondo Riviera Village, don't skip out on this delicious spot! I work nearby and Casa Playa has become my go-to lunch destination! The food is always delicious and fresh! I love their chips and house-made salsas, especially the "Salma Hayek". Their Craft Tacos are flavorful with the avocado crema and pickled onions. You can't go wrong with the wide selection of burritos and burrito bowls or their chicken cilantro soup on an overcast beachside day. Try their sunset fries or the BBQ pulled pork taco if you're looking for an alternative to the usual order. The staff and owners are very friendly and the atmosphere is chill and vibrant! Definitely check this place out for your next local Mexican food cravings!

Yelp
Service is rude and not accommodating, hung up on our receptionist when we called with our concerns. Burger patty and fires were overcooked and cold. They are not able to provide good food with large orders. would not recommend this restaurant again. thanks for ruining my birthday lunch at work.

Yelp
Delicious street tacos and great value. Friendly staff, good amount of seating and there's a cute patio in the back. One bathroom room in the back. Delicious salsa bar that wasn't too spicy, and complimentary nachos. They take Apple Pay. I got the Baja fish tacos and tbh I wouldn't get them again, there wasn't enough seasoning inside the batter. I got the Al pastor street tacos though and wow it was incredible. Added rice and beans as a side to make it a combo and it was a really good amount of food! Because I also got the fish taco it was too much food, but the leftovers were delicious. They give you so much meat that I couldn't eat my taco unless I used the second shell and split the fillings in half. There's street metered parking that's around $1.75 per hour and you can scan with your phone (without having to download an app) and pay with Apple Pay, which was my saving grace since h forgot my wallet at home!

Alex C.

Yelp
Stopped in on a bike ride - place was very clean and had this awesome salsa crate with many choices - spectacled, charming waitron showed much poise with patrons and checked on me twice even though I ordered at the counter - bean burrito special may in fact be best deal in town as foretold by the wonderful woman behind the counter - highly recommended

Wendy M.

Yelp
They missed you so often the product is fine . The food was old style Mexican food, had street tacos carnitas for breakfast as usual
google avatar

Lily H.

Yelp
I loved the delux burrito! It was perfect! Would definitely go back. The burrito had all the good stuff inside and the chicken was soooo flavorful.

Eric R.

Yelp
It's been two years since our last visit and we were hoping for an improvement. Sadly, we would be let down. My burrito, though very good looking upon delivery to the table was cold on the inside. The fish tacos were warm however and very tasty. A few chips were handed out after we were asked twice if we wanted them... salsa table is still very good but the small paper "cups" for filling are no longer kept on the table, they are handed out with the chips. We were there on Taco Tuesday at 7 and we were the only ones in the place and only one other single customer came in for take out. I don't know what's going on there but I don't think the signs are good. Down the street all the meal places are busy. We used to be very regular customers, nearly a decade ago, but their product just hasn't been what it was in the early years.... and boy, the prices are shockingly high! Sorry.

Adam N.

Yelp
Another AmZing experience at Wynn. Food and Service were unbelievable. Had Squash Tamal and honestly I'm happy to pay for Chips and a salsa when it's made table side. So fresh.
google avatar

Kendra B.

Yelp
LOVE THIS PLACE! everyone is so nice food is so yummy always bring out of town visitors to experience the best Mexican at the beach and when I am sick nothing else heals me like their chicken tortilla soup!

J B.

Yelp
Prices are absolutely insane now. It's $16+ for a breakfast burrito. They limit salsas and chips and when I asked for more chips, the person on the phone laughed at me. The breakfast burrito is probably one of the best in the riviera village area. I have had them all, this takes the cake but the price is deterring. At one point it was $10 under the original ownership and since the change, prices have just kept going up.

Annie M.

Yelp
Love the crunchy chicken tacos!!! Best rice and beans, too! Also great option for catering!
google avatar

Ty B.

Yelp
Food was worth the value, fresh ingredients and great portion sizes. The husband and I were pleasantly surprised. Don't let the location fool you, the folks cooking the food you can tell we're born and raised around the skill and pallets it takes to make great Mexican cuisine! Service was good, ambiance was chill nothing too much eat your meal and go. Great homemade salsas too!
google avatar

E M.

Yelp
Great and consistent chicken tacos. All of their salsas too. Cordial service. Prompt delivery too.
google avatar

Kimberly K.

Yelp
They were kind, helpful, efficient and organized with catering my birthday party. They delivered a 7foot al pastor burrito that was absolutely delicious and the talk of the party. I would definitely recommend them for a snack, meal or event!
google avatar

Reid R.

Yelp
Been a few times. Got the breakfast burrito with chorizo. Taco with plant chorizo. Burrito bowl. Drinks. Owner has been friendly. The other cashier employee has been direct and efficient. I like it. Order at the counter they bring it out. Some different fountain drink flavors as well. My girlfriend remembered it from our last visit some years ago and wanted to return. I like the volcano and Salma Hayek salsa.
google avatar

Kathy B.

Yelp
when you order 2 we deluxe burritos, a cheese quesadilla and 1 salad and is told your order totals $62!!!!! No way was a cheese quesadilla and a salad $15 each. And to be charged $1.50 for enchilada sauce, because there never is enough on the wet burrito..... I had to cancel that order... Plus the pricing on yelp from casa playa is WRONG.... someone really needs to update the menu pricing... Probably won't grab burritos there anymore..

Kristen W.

Yelp
We love our neighborhood taco place! The owners are lovely and the food is fantastic! My favorite is the shrimp tacos! The salsa bar is super and there really is something for everyone! Even our vegan loved ones enjoy Casa Playa!
google avatar

Rr M.

Yelp
I love this place for the casual beach vibe and the friendly service. The burritos are very big and tasty. The chip order of tostadas that you can break up with the salsa - those are good and they are generous. Beach ambience and the friendliest service. Salsa bar is good and I even had a bottle of the sangria.
google avatar

David A.

Yelp
It's neighborhood restaurants like Casa Playa that make Southern California one of a kind. For Mexican, it's a Beach Cities staple. And has been for decades. The new owners added some unique dishes (and booze!). We come here every time we're in town. Always amazing.
google avatar

Zoe C.

Yelp
As we walked near this Small cute Mexican Restaurant an aroma of good smelling food caught the attention of our noses. Later we realized it was not coming from this restaurant but the Pizza shop next door. We ordered all Tacos, half Pork and Half Carne Asada. Main issue about this restaurant that was disappointing is that the precooked meat just sits there until you order and served all that old dried meat that has been precooked served into your Tacos . The meat in our Tacos was dry. We were hungry and did not feel like waiting any longer so we ate those Tacos. Nice Beach community other Restaurants we will try next time.

Yelp
The most impressive coming fro a güera Mexicana del mero mero Rosarito So Close to say " Como los memories Tacos de Palyas De Rosarito ". Supper Stoked Exelet service by everyone here ,from the boys from the kitchen and the front counter "Gringos" whom, by the way, speak perfect spañol!! Bravo and the salsas Y guacamole

Yelp
Ordered a carne asada wet green burrito so yummy and full of flavor 10/10 beans inside burrito were magnificent better than Taco Bell bean burritos btw I love Taco Bell so that means a lot. I recommend small and cute place to eat. Close to Redondo beach. Quick service as well check it out!
