Argentina’s restaurants shine brightly with the announcement of its first-ever MICHELIN Stars!

"Almost everyone is familiar with oenologist Alejandro Vigil, known more widely as ‘the Messi of Wine’, but not everybody is aware that his bodega is home to a restaurant surrounded by vineyards that takes its inspiration from Dante’s The Divine Comedy. At Casa Vigil, Chef Iván Azar demonstrates his commitment to the Mendoza region, expertly showcasing the area’s authentic flavours." - MICHELIN Guide

Casa Vigil

"This is the “casa” of famous wine expert Alejandro Vigil, known more widely as “the Messi of Wine”, having been the first to be awarded 100 points by Robert Parker for his Argentinian wines, namely the iconic 2013 Gran Enemigo Single Vineyard Gualtallary and the 2016 Adriana Vineyard River Stone. The restaurant’s setting in Chachingo comes as a something of a surprise, and is inspired by Dante’s Divine Comedy (the story of a journey from hell to paradise, as well as that of the struggle with the inner self, hence his El Enemigo (The Enemy) wine brand). Following a guided tour of the vineyards that surround the building, head to the contemporary yet rustically appointed dining rooms, where the focus is on contemporary menus (one “executive” menu at lunchtime and two more extensive options in the evening) that showcase seasonal ingredients from the Mendoza region. The latter are sourced from its own garden and small-scale local producers, and are present in dishes such as mushrooms with spring onions, pork gnocchi with peas, and goat meat cooked at low temperature with sweet potato. Make sure you try the tomatoes grown by his mother, María Sance, with over 50 varieties that have been revived thanks to the Labrar programme." - Michelin Inspector

We did a tour of El Enemigo on April 16/25. What a beautiful place to visit! This winery is a testament to the hard work of Alejandro Vigil and Adrianna Catena. The grounds are beyond beautiful... I kept thinking they should host weddings there... but that would take away from the serenity of the place. So much to see, including heaven and hell. And the wine! We really enjoyed our tastings. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and gracefully answered our many questions. We ended up purchasing several bottles..or cases (?) to bring back to Canada. We really enjoyed our experience there.

Casa Vigil Mendoza felt more like a brand showroom since nothing is actually produced on-site. The visit was poorly organized and the tour was over in a flash. We tasted three wines and were given just two crackers with their olive oil. For 100 USD per person, it did not feel worth it, especially considering I visited other wineries in the area for half the price and enjoyed a much deeper, more engaging experience. Perhaps having lunch there during the tour, even at double the price, would have been a better choice.

We had a lovely experience at Casa Vigil! Very beautiful grounds and ambiance- we went on a Sunday when it was not very crowded and it was perfect. Our tour guide, Enzo, was incredible! Very knowledgeable and passionate about the work they do here. We loved learning the history behind these wines and how the winery came to be. We got to try olive oil during our tour as well as complimentary empanadas while we waited- both delicious! Wines are good across the board- we had one white and three reds. Jorge did our wine tasting and spoke great English and very knowledgeable about the wines as well. We highly recommend this place for a relaxing afternoon. We really enjoyed it, thank you!

The best wine tasting and tour in Mendoza (we did a lot of them trust us!). Our tour guide was Lourdes, she was patient, kind, funny and most importantly very knowledgeable. When speaking about the wines, the maker, restaurant etc she spoke with excitement and enthusiasm. It’s clear she loves her job and the spark is clear in her tours. She took time explaining the wines, discussing the regions, tasting notes and grape varieties as well as delicious olive oil. I was so relaxed and having a lovely time we didn’t even realise the time! Thank you Lourdes for sharing your afternoon with us you’re a super star!

The best meal of my life, hands down. Perfect service, outstanding food, exceptional wine. I’ll remember this evening for the rest of my life.

The food & wine were fantastic, but so much was taken away by the pedestrian service and ambiance. Pop music was deafening making conversation difficult and prompting waiters to literally shout across the table. Service seemed an after thought to the deliciously constructed menu. Not to mention how delayed simple requests were - 10 minutes for an espresso. I watched a waiter who took my order walk off and chat with friends before putting in my espresso order. The food, I believe, is deserving of it’s star but the service is better at any bodegón in Argentina.

One of the best experience in Mendoza. Must visit, despite of high prices, totally worth it. The dishes are well prepared (hint: if you would like to repeat any of them, just let your waiter know, but be prepared because of all the dishes are well served) Waiters are patient, joyfull and friendly.

Absolutely amazing! Agustín was the best guide. Knowledgeable, down to earth and knew how to keep up with the group. The venue is wonderful and well planned. And then there is the wine…. Amazing flavour, presented in the best way. Have done my fair share of wine tastings around the world and can easily say that the visit and the wine were the best I have done! Gracias Agustín!
