The Best Restaurants and Bars in Reno, Nevada | Eater Vegas

"To some, it’s a dive. To others, it’s home. Casale’s Halfway Club has been around since 1937 when it doubled as a roadside food stand and family residence. You can even see old doorway frames from what were once bedrooms throughout the dining room. Named after what was then the halfway point between Reno and Sparks, it evolved into a classic Italian American restaurant with red-and-white checkered tablecloths, heavy use of red tomato sauce, and meatballs made with breadcrumbs. The lasagna is cooked to order in single-serve portions. It’s probably the newest thing on the menu — and even that was added about 40 years ago. The ravioli is legendary. Get it split between the meat and cheese versions. The same family has looked after Casale’s Halfway Club for generations, most notably under the guidance of late matriarch “Mama Inez” Casale Stempeck, who’s almost a mythological figure in Reno." - Rob Kachelriess

We had our post-courthouse wedding dinner at Casale’s with a group of 15 friends and family, and it was PERFECT. Exactly what I’d hoped for from start to finish. Celebrating our wedding in a family-run restaurant with so much history meant a lot to us. I love their lasagna, and the Picon punches hit just right. They even accommodated some last-minute details—like the flower arrangements my mom ordered and the wine my dad brought—that we needed to drop off ahead of time. They were already packed and had no room for that stuff, but they made room and were incredibly gracious about it. I can’t thank them enough. Casale’s embodies everything I love about Reno: heart, soul, grit, history, and people looking out for each another. Thank you for making our wedding dinner so special, Casale’s!

Google
TLDR: classic old-school joint where the owners know your name I loved the old-school Italian diner feel that permeates throughout. The bartender/server was very kind and basically knew everyone inside. I ordered the ravioli lasagna combo and it came with garlic bread for $1 and salad. I really enjoyed the lasagna and it was huge for being a half portion. The ravioli wasn’t personally my favorite but I can see the appeal. All in all, great food at good price and lovely service

Brought my girlfriend here for date night (she loved it, found it very cute) and the lasagna, as it was highly recommended and I was not disappointed at all! It's huge but sat really well due to it being home made. The ambiance is awesome, loved reading up on all of the family's stories. Service was very friendly, even covering the cost of the lava cake dessert as they were out of tiramisu. Can't stop thinking of how good I felt after eating here.

Google
Best Italian food we have had in Reno in the last 5 years. Reasonable price, LARGE portions. Lasagna was great and the ravioli was pretty good. Garlic bread also very good. While I did 5 star it across the board, I do want to qualify that with Best in Reno....a few places get a 4 star from me that aren't near as good but yes there is better out there just nothing we have found around here. Will return which should make it a staple place for future trips for us just like Bertha Miranda's.

Google
Everybody who works there has amazing customer service. Not only treated my husband and I well but my service animal also with nice treats of salami. The spaghetti and meatballs are to die for but so is the rest of the menu it's ridiculous. You need to go to this very wonderful, delicious and quaint Italian Diner.

Service was great. Food was fantastic. Lasagna is delicious. The cheese was a bit darker that I prefer, but that happens to the best of us. Portions are huge. By far the best Italian food I have had in Reno. This place is going to be on my go to list when I am in town.

Oh my gosh, let me tell you about this restaurant, I went with a bunch of ladies last week from our valley ladies group, and what an awesome place. This restaurant started in 1937 and is the oldest restaurant in Nevada. The Owner/Bartender was nice to look at too, lol. We ordered some bread with marinara sauce to start out our afternoon, and then I ordered a half order of raviolis with meatball and my friend got the meatball sandwich. Another one got the raviolis and another two girls ordered a pizza. The food was so good, and I have been craving it ever since, and this afternoon with my son, Lens we are going to go there for an early dinner. Absolutely fantastic service. The place is so cozy with all this memorabilia all over the walls. We all got salads first and when one asked, if there was blue cheese for a salad, the guy says nope we only have vinaigrette, could because that’s what mama did, and that’s how the house stays because of mama, we loved that. What a wonderful tradition. I cannot wait to go there this afternoon, and have the best Italian food I’ve ever had, and I’ve even been to Italy. If you have not gone to eat here, I recommend it, I have never heard of this place, and I have been in Nevada for 20 years. AMAZING GEM!!

Yelp
Been trying to come for years. Have seen it on the food network. It's better than I could have ever expected. You feel like you're in a families house. The waiter found out we were virgins. He brought us free jaigermiester shots. And took one with us. The food is heavenly. The ravioli and meatballs melt in your mouth. The mom came and gave us hugs. I've never given a 5 star. This place deserves it. It's a must before you die. Exceptional.

Yelp
We've been coming to this restaurant for many years and have always loved it. The food is consistently amazing, and most of the staff are kind, welcoming, and genuinely make the experience special. But today was different, and unfortunately, this wasn't the first time we've had a negative experience with one particular person. When we arrived today, we weren't in any rush and were just waiting patiently to be seated. A man (who we later learned is the owner's husband) came around the corner and very abruptly sat us at a table that hadn't been cleaned. When we politely asked if the tablecloth could be changed, he acted like we were inconveniencing him. It was uncomfortable from the start. As we sat with our menus, we asked if the usual bartender was still working, since he knows how we like our drinks. The morning bartender is always so kind and accommodating. This man, on the other hand, seemed more interested in pushing high-end tequila than actually listening to us. When we didn't go for the expensive option, he completely ignored one of us and didn't even ask for her drink order--because he was too busy ranting about how the house tequila was "gasoline." If that's really the case, maybe that should be addressed on the restaurant's end instead of being taken out on the customers. We tried to stay positive, hoping things would improve once the food came out. And as always, the food did not disappoint--absolutely delicious. The woman who brought it to our table was lovely, and we truly appreciated her. But the man continued to be passive-aggressive and seemed irritated that we were even there. Then came the bill. We had ordered one spaghetti meal to eat at the restaurant, plus one extra salad for the table--so we expected to be charged for the extra salad. But we noticed we were charged for two extra salads. When we politely pointed it out, he got visibly irritated, but eventually accepted the mistake and removed one. However, we were still overcharged. Our takeout order, which was the second spaghetti meal, was charged at the full dine-in price, but didn't include the garlic bread or salad that typically come with the meal. When we asked about it, he kept changing his answer--first saying the takeout should have garlic bread, then saying it only comes if we call it in (which doesn't make sense). It just felt like he couldn't admit any fault and was more interested in being "right" than making it right. This was a really disappointing experience. We've always loved this place, and it's sad to see someone with such a poor attitude tarnishing the warm and welcoming atmosphere that Inez worked so hard to create. I don't usually write reviews, but after being treated this way more than once by the same person, I felt it needed to be said.

Yelp
Once again we have eaten here for my Birthday (my choice). They did not disappoint. The bartender Chris made a perfect Lemon drop!! Our waitress Courtney was so so awesome! And of course the food was delicious! Homemade Ravioli and spaghetti with Meatballs so delicious!! Love this quaint little place on 4th Street in Reno, NV.

Yelp
From the moment we stepped into the Halfway Club we were met with nothing but friendly staff and wonderful aromas. Casale's is the best place for wonderful and comforting Italian cuisine. In addition, Paul the bartender, makes fantastic cocktails. A picon punch and Italian margarita started the night off. The picon, flavorful and strong. The Italian margarita was tasty and tangy. Both delicious The entrees were a "smallish" lasagna and a 1/2 spaghetti and meatballs with beef raviolis. The lasagna- cheesy, hot and full of great flavor. The 1/2 spaghetti and ravioli- fantastic sauce and plump raviolis. The salad and bread are also a great complement to the meal. Being Reno's oldest restaurant, the atmosphere is very clean and full of nostalgia. This is a small restaurant so reservations are highly recommended. Get there early and have a drink at the bar before dinner.

Yelp
Another fun place. The bartender and 1 lady server were fantastic. So cute, sweet, welcoming. Thank you! The gal popped her head out door as we left and thanked us for visiting. Loved that! Now that seems Italian. Small, hot, cramped, kinda icky, old, but also interesting, fun, crusty, old hole in the wall. No seating. We were at bar, which was cozy-ish. I grew up going to traditional down to Earth Italian American places, which I am. This isn't that, as I'd hoped, but maybe, some of the people, are the remnants of. The food; hmmm, too humble for the price, which isn't too high. 1 tiny cute ancient closet (bathroom), but it works. The ravioli are too small in size and portion, but I liked the homemade part and texture was okay; although a bit too squishy. The meatballs? No. Too light and squishy, not meaty enough or with appropriate seasoning. The sauce is more like a Greek place. Pungent bitter bests describes the overuse of oregano. I am pleased it wasn't sweet though! Not enough fresh tomato, more a dark, thinned herbal assault fluid that conjures up midnight horrors of heartburn-infused insomnia. I haven't used pepto-bismol in years, but I had to chew 4 of those bad boys that night. I really loved the Roy Rogers I got that I thought was on tap with cherry syrup. The bartender said it is from a can and grenadine, but it was specially prepared by the kind man in a fun shirt covered with oranges! I felt good and welcomed there. I would return for drinks only. The garlic bread and salad were nothing to do flips over either. Not a solid place to dine, but I want to be a supporter. 2.5 Stars cause I like the intention and respect the history

Yelp
It's always great as a local to introduce someone to something you love. Castles Halfway Club is that little place. My husband has lived in Reno for 7 years now and I still (oops) have never taken him to Casales - until last weekend that is. I told him to trust me and that some things are not what they seem - and that is this place! The servers were amazing upon entering and so kind and asked us how long we've been in the area (my entire life to his 7) and how come we aren't there more often. Well - that is changing for sure! I love the cozy italian restaurant feel of the place. After getting engaged in Italy two years ago that same family restaurant feel is hard to come by - but not at Casales! it feels exactly like the small restaurants in Naples that feature a small yet strong menu. And then the food. Delicious. My husband loved his spaghetti and said that the sauce was better than his mom's! Which is absolutely insane because he thinks her spaghetti sauce is God-sent. Can't wait to bring that one up at Thanksgiving. I have always loved the spice that the sauce provides. We can't wait to go back the next time we are craving a bit of italian homemade pasta.

Yelp
Raos in Las Vegas, Monas in New York and casales halfway club are equal in my book, but if you want family style itialian restaurant, this is the place. We do not live in Reno, but I have family here and every visit with family, we eat at Casales Halfway House. Excellent authentic italian food made daily since 1937. We love this place!

Greg F.

Yelp
It is not what or how it used to be. Sure go for a drink and to see the place BUT SKIP the food. Awful and not sanitary.

Yelp
I used to work at Copenhagen Bar on Prater Way and the families ( Casale's) were friends. I went to dinner there one night and it was FANTASTIC!!! The atmosphere was like walking into your Italian grandma's kitchen, the food amazing, and the chianti delicious. Highly recommend going

Yelp
Casale's Halfway club is a classic spot that is a must AND is family owned. The homemade lasagna and ravioli are incredible and my favorites. You can't go wrong with any dish you order. As soon as you walk in, you are welcomed and are part of the family. The nostalgic bar is perfect for grabbing a drink, before you sit down for an amazing meal. This is definitely a local favorite spot and one I highly recommend.

Yelp
Okay, here's the bottom line. I'm absolutely convinced that angels choose to lay their heads on the little pillows of perfection that are their homemade ravioli. I'm a sucker for the beef, and the special December chicken ones, but all are tender and delicious. I'll never tire of this place. The people are fantastic and it's a part of old Reno that should stay with us forever.

Yelp
I don't know how I missed reviewing this place after decades of experience here. I'm really not sure what I can add to the already stellar reviews other than to pile on the FOMO for the reader. Seriously, you cannot live here and NOT try Casale's. Still family run, they maintain a small menu with a few signature dishes that grew only slightly since John and Elvira Casale opened the market in 1920. The raviolis are the OG and personally, my favorite dish there. I love the texture, flavor and serving size and the minestrone soup is pretty damn good. What I love most about Casale's is that time stands still there. While everything around it changes, disappears, expands, they know what they do and do it well. Nothing to change, nothing to grow. Grab a Picon punch and take a seat...fast because this place is small with limited seating. It is worth it though.

Yelp
This little hidden gem looks like a run down bar but don't let the exterior put you off. This is the absolutely most amazing Italian food I have ever eaten. Casale's has been a Reno staple since 1937 and everything is stilled made the old fashion way. You must make a reservation as the place has very limited tables and is always busy. I went with friends and had the Valentines special, which is ravioli and lasagna. The portions were big enough I had dinner the next night and it was just as good. I was so excited to try the food I forgot to take pictures but let me tell you, it was a feast for the eyes and the stomach. I cannot wait to go back again.

Yelp
Been in Reno for 23 yrs now and JUST had my first Casale's visit!!! It's a tiny place and there were 8 of us so we did call a day ahead for reservations. I kind of like that it hasn't been updated really.... Walls are covered in signatures and old photos and newspaper clippings. It's fun. Everyone there was SUPER friendly! The Italian margarita was excellent! Loved the house salad and garlic bread. I tried the lasagna... it was ok. It was so built up by friends that maybe my expectations were too high. It's not bad at all.. just not as great as I expected. I definitely want to go back and try the meatball sandwich!

Yelp
We just came here this last Saturday to enjoy an authentic homemade Italian meal. My husband and I looooove the kellums and valentines special which consists of lasagna and ravioli. Chefs kiss to this delicious dish , perfect for any occasion!

A M.

Yelp
Food - is ok... I prefer their lasagna over the beef ravioli and the spaghetti. We ordered half lasagna and ravioli and half ravioli and spaghetti. We also tried their pizza - half royal combo and health spa. Its not your traditional pizza smothered in cheese but its full of toppings up to the rim. We also tried their garlic bread, minestrone soup and salad. If I were to go back and eat, ill have their lasagna maybe a side of meatballs. Service - was a little slow. It took forever for the food to come out after the soup and salad. Its probably because its made from scratch but still slow for my pace. Ambiance - is cozy and a little tight. We ate on a friday night so maybe that explains the crowd. Experience was ok. I am glad that I was able to eat at the oldest restaurant in Reno.

Yelp
As I love throwback-type restaurants in the flavor of Jane and Michael Stern's old "Road Food" publications, Casale's Halfway (between Reno and Sparks) has been on my "Biggest Little City" bucket list for some time. It's a red checker cloth old fashioned Italian place that I think is the oldest restaurant in Reno and Nevada. And despite it being around for like forever, at a recent Yelp Elite sit down event, no one at my table had ever heard of this place! Casale's Halfway Club is located along the old US 40/Business 80 and is a little out-of-the way and directions challenging to get here. The building has outlasted its neighborhood over the years, so people who come here either know where it is and come often, or like us were curious enough to make the trip. This is a family run business and deserves our support. If you're a serious foodie, Casale's might not reach the top Yelp star rating or even one from Michelin. But when you put it all together: Solid Italian food from family recipes, the history, fascinating old school cozy (including a juke box) interior, friendly service, and a good working bar, this place is stellar. Gayle was a little wary when I suggested we come here, but mere seconds after sitting down in a corner both, her smile said it all. The only thing we were wary of were all the carbs we would be consuming, but with any nutritional splurge, we were thankful for our continual exercise regimen and the fact that dinner turned out to be more of a snack. We even ordered half portions, beef ravioli for me and ravioli/spaghetti (with meatball) for Gayle. On top of that was garlic bread for the table, plus minestrone and red wine for her and a salad and local draft beer for me. It was all delicious and just enough food to be comfortable full. We both thought our tab was very reasonable. My vinaigrette-enhanced salad was a particular pleasant surprise as this is the kind of place where you don't see anything green very often. This is also the kind of place where we can't just eat here once. As we live in Genoa, coming back has a significant planning component, maybe in association with shopping, meeting up with friends, or just before a Reno Aces game. And we will!

Yelp
This restaurant has been a go to of mine for many years. The atmosphere makes you feel right at home with the lovely smells coming from the kitchen that will have you ordering more and more. My favorite dish here is the lasagna, but I've had other items on the menu and all are beyond amazing. Don't ever miss out on their garlic bread! It's mouth watering good! My favorite spot to sit, if in a small group (2) is the bar! Always great service and a good laugh.
google avatar

Yelp
Casale's is just such a classic. We brought some friends who had never been and they loved it--no surprise. The salad is very basic but I would say the better of the options between the salad and soup. You truly can't go wrong with the lasagna!
google avatar

Greg T.

Yelp
Wow..Great food. Lasagna was wonderful. You can tell the food is made my fresh and served hot. We'll be back for sure. If you don't like this Italian food don't go to Italy because you won't like it there either.

Yelp
Excited to try this place. Its been here forreevverrrr. I had raviolis and meatballs. Super great flavor and quality. Server and bartender were a but weeded but they were rockstars. The vibe is classic and you can tell people take pride in their work. I can't wait to go back and try more!

Yelp
The best lasagna I've ever had was from this spot I had in Colorado. As I was scrolling through restaurants in Reno, I saw an image of Casale's lasagna and it looked very similar to the one I had in Colorado. I was now on a mission. I had to have their lasagna. That very same day, I drove to Casale's and was greeted right away and was asked if I had a reservation. I did not, but they led us to a table anyway. I was surprised because this place didn't look super crowded. I looked through yelp reviews and saw that their ravioli was also very highly rated. We ordered their lasagna, half and half order of their ravioli and a side order of their meatball and garlic bread. The wait for food was fairly long. We got their side salad and soup first which was okay. The garlic bread was up next and it was better than the soup and salad. Finally, the long awaited lasagna arrived and it looked magnificent. I finally got to take my first bite and it was piping hot, fresh and underwhelming. The flavor just wasn't there. I want to say that the overwhelming flavor I tasted was jarred garlic? I'm not sure, but I was not a fan of it. Next up were the ravioli. I tried the beef one first and then the cheese and, unfortunately, I didn't like either of them. Everything looked very delicious but didn't taste good to me. I was disappointed that I didn't like the food but overall it was a good experience with friendly service, fair prices and large portions.

Steve R.

Yelp
Although good it is not really great. We went there for the first time last night. When asked what I thought I said it was good but not great A solid 6 on the 10 scale. I think that they probably have been doing the same thing for a long long time and sometimes just go through the motions of making it. I probably won't go back unless someone else says let's go. It's not bad. It's just that there are a lot of restaurants out there and I'd rather try and find a great one. I know it's got history and all that but I'm not paying $60 for a meal for two because of history.

Yelp
Casale's has been on my list for a long time and we finally made it in this week! You know this place has to be good when it's far out of the way on E. 4th Street but is still fully booked on a random Wednesday night. We didn't expect them to be so busy but we lucked out with a spot at the bar without a wait! I love all the decor inside that makes it feel like you've stepped into someone's home. You technically have, because this used to be the original owner's house! The current bar area was the front room of her house where she started serving her homemade raviolis back in 1937. The tradition has stayed within the family ever since! All the staff are so friendly and welcome you in like family. As an Italian myself with great grandparents who immigrated here from Italy, I really appreciate the history of this place. You can taste the difference when a restaurant uses original family recipes that have been passed down through the years! Their menu is simple, they have perfected their regular items and don't need to offer a ton of variety. My husband started with a Peroni, an Italian beer. They have other fun Italian drinks like an Italian Margarita, made with amaretto instead of tequila. I got their 1/2 and 1/2 which is half spaghetti and half ravioli. They are most known for their raviolis, so you can't pass that up! They have beef or cheese, I chose ricotta cheese. The entrees all come with a side salad or soup. I went with the Minestrone soup. Everything I had was delicious! The spaghetti and ravioli were smothered in red sauce and Parmesan cheese. The raviolis were smaller than expected but that made them unique and they were still packed with flavor. They have nailed down the perfect sauce recipe to top it all off with. My husband got meatballs on his dish and they were some of the best I've had in a long time, very large and light without tasting too dense. We snagged their last slice of tiramisu for the night and I'm so glad we got to try it! The chocolate lava cake sounded good too but we had to go with the one that was close to selling out. It's no surprise this has been a staple for home-cooked Italian food in Reno for so many years! I'm excited to come back to try their lasagna and pizzas in the future. Even though it took me 5 years of living in Reno to make it here, I certainly plan on coming back soon!

Yelp
Worst food we have ever had. Surprised we didn't get food poisoning. Do not recommend to anyone. We went there because they were on The Food Network. It ended up being a very old Episode

Yelp
I have been missing out for years...I finally ate here for the first time today. Casale's is now my favorite Italian restaurant. Their fresh pasta and AMAZING red sauce is hard to beat. This quaint little restaurant has a somewhat limited menu, but even then, it is so hard to choose from the list of favorites. I settled on the half ravioli/half spaghetti and meatballs. I haven't had better in Reno. The minestrone soup is also unmatched. It may take some time to get your order but it is very much worth it! Kudos to the staff here for being so friendly, welcoming, and helpful!

Yelp
Simple Italian food menu in a great dive bar environment. I had the lasagna and my wife had the ravioli, both were good.

Yelp
We have been meaning to go to Casale's Halfway Club for years and we finally got there today. Boy, are we glad we did! We were very lucky because we were there about 1:30 PM and it was not crowded at all. Clinton greeted us warmly and seated us immediately. I would soon realize how lucky we were when I heard people calling to make reservations and hearing how busy the restaurant gets. The restaurant looks like a legitimate old school Italian restaurant with decor dating back through the decades to 1937. We chose to go there during a heatwave and the AC was struggling to keep up. One of our favorite things was that the patrons at different tables were all talking to each other and sharing stories about the restaurant from throughout their lives. I love that feel of instant camaraderie and the stories our fellow diners shared, were a delight. Now for the food - it really is authentic old school Italian. You can tell everything is homemade using recipes handed down through the generations. We ordered the minestrone soup and garlic bread as starters and both were delicious. I had the Valentine half lasagna and half ravioli and Clinton set me up with both meat and cheese ravioli so I could sample them both. My husband had the Spaghetti and Meatballs and Ravioli. Of course we traded bites... Everything was delicious, but if we had to pick a favorite, it would be the Lasagna. We plan to return soon to verify this. . Casale's you have a great employee- Clinton was an absolute delight, and his service was perfect. See you again, soon!

Yelp
Friendly, good food, casual and comfortable place with that old fashioned Italian atmosphere.

Yelp
So glad we found this spot! Delicious food, friendly staff and great service. The staff are always great about saying hello and welcoming you in. The food is so good, nothing had disappointment us. Delicious spaghetti, meatballs, pizza, ravioli and lasagna. We stop in at least twice each visit to Reno to get our fix. Tried my first Italian cocktail "Negroni" here and it was amazing! The restaurant is small but it's very cozy. If there is a wait it's worth it. You must try this spot.

Yelp
Such a cute little hole in the wall! (The wall being fourth street but it's worth it!!) First off the vibe is so fun like you're going to great grandma house who is (maybe surprisingly) Italian. Nothing fancy but grandma doesn't know about fancy she knows about tradition. Anyways the food is great! The marinara is perfect. I don't know what else to say about it. They bring it out with a mound of bread and it's a great starter. It's a small menu but perfect to do family style! We had 5 people and ordered the lasagna, the ravioli, and the spaghetti and meatballs. We also all got a salad We were picking at the very last bites by then end. The service is also very casual and comforting. Checked on us regularly and chatted up with us when they had time!

Yelp
Really great raviolis and spaghetti. Love the ambiance of the place and you do need reservations for dinner. They are very accommodating if you want to mix and match your food choices. Highlight is watching the trains go by.

Yelp
A Reno classic! This was our first time stopping in, which is a real shame since I was born and raised in Reno,Nv. This adorable little restaurant really welcomes you in and makes you feel like a regular, even if it's your first time. Everyone was so friendly and quick to help us out. Our ice tea glasses honestly never ran out! I really love that you can get small or half orders of most everything on the menu, so weather you have a small appetite or are watching your waste you can still enjoy every bite. I had a cup of the minestrone soup which was so yummy and warming! My husband loved his salad too, the dressing was a delight. I got the small portion of the half and half, spaghetti and ravioli. I loved it! Their sauce was so delicious and my sister in law even bought some to take home. Those little ravioli, you can taste the love in every bite. My husband got the smallish lasagna and added on two meatballs. Their meatballs are so meaty and well seasoned, totally different than some other places that have similar cuisine. And the lasagna was a wonderful, cheesy treat! But if I have one piece of advice to leave you with, it's this: make sure to order the garlic bread. Everything about it was perfection!

Yelp
After all these years of living in Reno and choosing Casale's at the place to take out-of-towners, I felt I needed a review update. We love the welcoming, family vibe every time we walk through the door. The servers seem to treat everyone like long lost friends. The bar seats are always filled and give us a feeling like we are walking in on an episode of Cheers. But we always take a seat at one of their classic checkered tablecloth-covered tables. We love the vintage ambiance. Given that Casale's has been open since 1937, you will find lots of throw-back items here including old knick knacks, dated advertisements, and a large poster of Dean Martin. This place is tied to cherished memories of many people in our lives. We are happy to think that we brought my husband's mother and my mother here separately and they were both able to meet Mama Casale as she came around to greet the guests at her tables. And it's sad to think they are all gone now. We just took my Truckee-based brother-in-law here the other day for the first time and it quickly became his favorite restaurant in all of Nevada. He and I had pizzas while my husband had spaghetti and meatballs. We each had an ice cold bottle of Henry Weinhard's Root Beer (the best!) and shared a plate of yummy garlic bread. While the top outside crust of my pizza was burnt as it always is when I get it, I realize that I like this place for so many more reasons than just the food. And as for my husband, he loves every dish he's ever had here!

Yelp
This restaurant is very authentic with flavors and dishes. Soup is outstanding as well as the ravioli and sauces. We could eat spaghetti and ravioli everyday! Service was very good and employees friendly and efficient. Be sure to make a reservation. Inside is crowded (Standing room only while waiting for table) and kinda loud. Highly recommend and will go back.

Yelp
The best restaurant in Reno, and one of the best Italian restaurants I've ever been to. As soon as you walk in you get hit with the smell of the most amazing Italian cooking in the west. Courtney and the team provided seven star service, we'll be back for sure!

Yelp
After having take home Christmas dinner from Casale's last year and now finally getting the opportunity to sit down and eat at Casale's, this place deserves 10 stars. The experience is unlike anywhere else in Reno. Best lasagna you'll ever have. The restaurant has a home-y feel, the service makes you feel like your family and you'll think to yourself "87 years of being in business has earned themselves a place in your heart to pleasantly fill your tummy!" Don't sit on your opportunity to have a wonderful meal.

Yelp
Thumbs down! on deteriorating Casales...Massively disappointing with an awkward seating scuffle. The tiny glass of wine for $12 dollars came 20 minutes later, in spite of low traffic. On its arrival, I ordered quickly to take advantage of the presence of the new and extremely arrogant bartender/server "Clinton". After another 30 minutes, others who came after me were being served their lunch. The matronly woman overseeing the dining room came over and asked if everything was ok.. I said I still haven't received my lunch, let alone the salad upfront. She checked into it... 'Clinton', the new bartender's customer service habits are atrocious (and DON'T! recommend him to be your server. ) The woman apologized as she said my ticket was crossed off as being served in the kitchen.. not sure how that happened! Others who came after me were already being served their lunch. Ok, chalk it up to gross negligence ~ "He" finally swung by with some garlic bread 40 minutes into the wait, and I asked for a refill.. he snidely remarked, " I'll bring the bottle' and turned on his heel without any response from me.. What kind of obnoxious, audacious, ill~ mannered and impudent response is that to a patron? ? After another 20 minutes and close to an hour after seating, the 'famous' lasagna came out with a burnt cheese topping and undercooked pasta. He breezed by the table after plate placement from the kitchen, with Casales version of wine in a shot glass, and asked how things were. I replied, "Truth be told, I've had better at Olive Garden." He replied, "Well that's your opinion!" and I said, "YES! It IS! my opinion and you ASKED FOR IT! And another thing, when I asked for a refill, you replied that you would 'bring the bottle'. I found that snide and uncalled for!" He said they were crediting the drinks.. The table of two next to me started to converse with me, and they expressed that their own lunch was equally unappealing, and that they were of Italian decent and found this food very bland.. Truth be told, I couldn't get through the rubbery lasagna that lacked any significant flavor in the sauce, and that second glass of wine in a thimble? I left it for them. They need it more than I.. I'm crossing this one off my list.. The Original owners and creators would roll over in their graves, if they knew that commitment to Excellence has failed in their passing~ Call it Cathartic instead of Casales~

Yelp
We were in town visiting family and they said "we must go to Casale's!" - boy are we glad we did! Our family is friendly with the family that owns the place, and they are regulars, never a bad meal. There were 7 adults and 2 toddlers in our group. We started off with the cheesy bread with marinara dipping sauce - OMG! HEAVEN on a plate. Next, I had the spaghetti and meatballs and it was outstanding. My husband and just about everyone else at the table had the lasagna/ravioli combo and everyone raved about it. The service was outstanding and the prices were great for the giant portions.

Yelp
This is our go to for excellent casual Italian dining. We really like this place. Their food is excellent. Their decor is very appropriate. Their personnel is like family and their service is outstanding. Kind of like going to an old Italian grandmother's house for a meal.

Yelp
I have been patronizing this restaurant for many years. My husband and I ordered two small lasagnas for takeout and we got home and in the Box for four tiny pieces of pasta drenched in sauce. We paid $31 for this. I'm sorry that Inez is gone and that this business has gone so far downhill. I called to complain in the female on the other end of the phone told me she's the one that packed it up and then it was actually the amount of a small in-house lasagna which I knew was not true as I have been there so many times. Then she asked how she can make it up to me? You can't make it up once you blow it like that. I'm really sad hey Reno iconic restaurant has decided to be so freaking cheap. Goodbye

Yelp
Ambiance, service, food, drinks; they have it all. It's a very cozy spot and I highly recommend a reservation if you have a large party. Most of the seating is intimate and the joint is small, overall. It has tons of history and the bar area shows. The walls are covered in news articles and photos of the family who started this place. It's quite nostalgic. The experience from start to finish was truly great. The hospitality felt like you're being welcomed home for dinner. I highly recommend the picon punch and small(ish) lasagna. I can't believe I ate the whole thing. Comes with your choice of minstrone soup or a salad w/ a vinaigrette. I chose minestrone and it was good, nothing to return solely for. My friends had a little bit of everything else on the menu (except for the pizza- I'll need to return to try that) and literally no one in our party complained about anything! That's how solid their delivery is. Old fashioned drinks and the garlic bread w/red sauce are a good starting point for whatever you intend to order! This would make an excellent date night spot- heavy on the comfort carbs, light on the garlic. The red kiss items on the menu are for family favorites- can't go wrong. Enjoy!

Yelp
Highly recommend trying this Reno Classic. This is my favorite Italian place in town. Be sure to bring cash (no cards taken but they do have an ATM) and have a reservation. Love their homemade ravioli and their spaghetti with meatballs. I prefer to do a combo of both. This is a classic Italian diner type restaurant with the checkered tablecloths. I have not gotten to try the pizza yet. Food came out quick and staff was friendly

Yelp
This little old restaurant is so cute and fun. You must have a reservation they only have 8 tables. But we walked in and were able to sit at bar to eat without reservation.

Yelp
Salve yourself $90 and buy some frozen pizza and open some cans of chef boyardee. Truly thoughtless, bland food. I challenge anyone to identify actual flavors . Oh my. Worst Salve yourself $90 and buy some frozen pizza and open some cans of chef boyardee. Truly thoughtless, bland food. I challenge anyone to identify actual flavors . Oh my. Worst antipasto on planet earth. Yikes do not go here for nostalgia or whatever cutesy reason. Don't go! A true halfway house would serve better food.
