The 38 Best Restaurants in Rome, Italy

"The dishes at Casalino, a kosher restaurant on the main street in Rome’s Jewish quarter, are inspired by traditions of the historic ghetto, which tend toward fried vegetables like carciofi alla giudia (deep-fried artichokes) and verdure in pastella (assorted battered vegetables), as well as humble fish offerings like tortino di alici (baked anchovies). Along with centuries-old Roman Jewish classics, Casalino also serves more modern dishes like carbonara with tuna instead of guanciale and cacio e pepe with crispy squash blossoms." - Katie Parla

I had the oiliest food ever. The fried courgettes were so oily. The food didn't taste fresh. The only acceptable thing was the pasta.

I ate the best dairy meal of my life here! The bruschetta, pillowy gnocchi, the cacio a pepe of my dreams, the fried zuchinni in vinegar...it was an amazing experience, one I hope to have again when I visit Rome next.

We found this gem and couldn't be happier with the quality of food we received. Homemade is hard to find, and wandering away from the city center was worth the walk. The waitstaff was friendly and knowledgeable of their products, and they were extremely helpful in translating and offering suggestions. We wanted dessert to go, but we w encouraged to eat it there, so we pulled up our pants, unbuttoned the top button, and got to work. Of course, the recommendation was correct. I couldn't imagine the dessert tasting the same after walking thru the city for a few hours.

The pesto pasta here is straight-up fire, and the cod fish? Just wow. Noa, the manager, is super chill and totally helped us out with hotel bookings when everything was full. You can really feel the love in this family-run spot. If you want dope food and awesome vibes, this is the place to be!

The Jewish and Roman artichokes, fried anchovies, and whole fish were incredible! The mandatory bread service was a little stale and dry. The service really depended on who served you—the young woman super welcoming, the other waitress not so much. overall a memorable meal!

The service was great and I liked the food, but the only thing I’d change is they add too much EVOO to the food to the point that I had to take it out from my lasagna with a spoon. Ohh! The kosher lasagna was so good, you should try it if you are in the area

Simply incredible. The quality of the other kosher restaurants seems cheap and touristic compared to this amazing quality, quick and lovely service, and a menu that kept me coming back to try more of the authentic and delicious Italian dishes. Highly recommend the Jewish artichoke, truffle ravioli, gnocchi with rose sauce, and the fried cod filet, which I will be dreaming about when I get back to America. We also took a cooking class and ate the food after—the chef was great company and very patient, and I recommend this as well. DON’T MISS IT!!
