Exposed brick & plank floors outfit this cozy cocktail den with an Irish flair & upscale bar snacks.
"The Mission is chock-full of excellent, casual patios for eating, drinking, and partying (see: El Techo de Lolindo, El Rio, and Prubechu, which also appears on this list), but Casements’ pandemic-era pivot to include a back patio continues to be a Mission standout a few years later. With colorful murals, tables, a couple of booths, and live entertainment, it’s easy to spend an afternoon into evening here with friends. There’s a solid list of drinks here, so go with your gut on what to order, but the Spice Bag — the bar’s spiced fries with Irish curry sauce — is non-negotiable. Just order it." - Dianne de Guzman
"If you’re looking for a place with a more modern Irish bar vibe, Casements in the Mission is where to find it. Rather than decor that’s dripping in shamrocks, its Ireland-ness comes through in other ways: Casements pours a large selection of Irish whiskeys and gins, for instance, and the cocktail menu mixes both Irish and local (or woman-led) brands into its drinks. The food menu is nothing to pass up: the Spice Bag and the beef and Guinness stew made with Niman Ranch beef are to die for. There’s a huge patio in the back where live bands and DJs perform regularly." - Paolo Bicchieri
"Organizing a community bake sale at Casements in the Mission with funds going toward California Community Foundation’s wildfire recovery fund." - Dianne de Guzman
"Is it a gay bar? Is it an Irish bar? Well, it’s neither and both: a majority Irish-owned, majority LGBTQ-owned venue named for a gay Irish humanitarian. But more importantly, Casements is a proper pub whose kitchen serves fish and chips and curry fries en masse, with a curated cocktail list, excellent local beers, and the ability to make frozé feel elegant. A whiskey club, a back patio that feels like the V.I.P. section at a music festival, and a queer-friendly ambiance all conspire to make this Mission spot among the most hospitable bars in the city." - ricky rodriguez, peter astrid kane
"A trio of friends opened this modern cocktail bar, which defies American expectations for what an Irish bar should look and taste like. Drinkers can sample the collection of Irish whiskey and gin, get a smooth pint of draft Guinness, and chase it all down with fish and chips. Bonus: it’s home to one of the coolest back patios in the Mission, with graffiti-covered walls encasing a rowdy space with tables, heaters, and (oftentimes) live music." - Lauren Saria, Eater Staff
