A Federal Hill classic dating to 1953, still baking thick, saucy pies and the beloved Wimpy Skippy spinach pie. Its old‑school spirit anchors the neighborhood and regularly earns nods from local guides and heritage‑minded writers.

Great owners, excellent pizza, and other items with some of the best dough you can taste.

Worst I had ever had. I never have left a pice of pizza on my plate ever when I eat at casertas. This pizza you can tell is being pressed and frozen it literally was like eating cardboard. It was disgusting. I am so aggravated I made the ride to providence for a frozen pizza that I could of gotten from stop n shop at half the price

victor Manuel Nuñez

Google
I’m only three minutes away from the pizza place, but my order took two hours to arrive. On top of that, the pizza wasn’t good at all.

Bill Brower

Google
My favorite pizza not only in Providence but in the state. They hit the triple crown with the sauce, cheese, and crust!!!

Bill Barnert

Google
Great place for Sicilian-style pizza. They only have a few toppings, but they do them well! (Cheese, pepperoni, mushroom, anchovies, & olive.) Caveat: If you want cheese, make sure you tell them. A "plain" pizza is just tomato sauce! Fun place for groups of friends. And they have beer & wine.

Google
1st time visiting and was an amazing experience. To the ladies out front and to the guys in the back, thank you!!! Delicious taste and great service. Highly recommend you come here and try their pizza 😘🤌🏼😋🤤🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕

Sarah Alba

Google
This place has gone downhill. Used to be the best pizza in RI now they don’t even cook it all the way before sending it out the door! Even if you order it well done! Extra sauce does not mean drown it in sauce!!!!!!

Ryan

Google
This is school lunch, cafeteria pizza. It's always bone dry with no sauce, if you order extra sauce, it's like you annoyed them, and they pour a gallon of sauce on your pie, making it so that you can't even pick up a slice because it is so soggy and sloppy. This place used to be the top dog in RI for one reason, there was no competition. Now that there is competition people seemingly are realizing that Caserta, was never "all that".

Yelp
My elementary class had a reunion here recently. Why? Because this was our place when we were young. Every half day, we would walk here and have pizza together. The pizza then was as good as it is now. But what shines for me is the whimy skimpies. They are spinach pies with pepperoni and cheese - truly a nostalgic legend. The interior /ambiance has always been clean and inviting. They have multiple tables various groups. The service was great, friendly staff and helpful. Overall a great place.

Yelp
It's an old school location for the best pizza on the planet. Never disappoints and always worth the trip if I'm in Providence or anywhere close. Make sure to order the cheese. Iconic taste. As my daughters said, the pizza is

Yelp
Stopped by on the way back from visiting relatives, and the place decently lived up to its reputation. The pizza we ordered wasn't the best, but was still ever good. It was skimpy on the toppings of olives and pepperoni, which disappointed me. However, the texture of the pizza was overall good and filling. They cooked it in a reasonable amount of time, about 20 minutes when it was dinner time. The service was quick and nice. The staff were very polite and quick with their work. Never had an issue with the service here. The ambiance was nice. It's a large open pizzeria with a lot of seating. Wasn't the cleanest establishment but not unsanitary by any means. The bathroom was very small and cramped, and only fit one person. If I'm driving through Providence again, I'll make sure to stop here! A solid restaurant with decent pizza

Yelp
I used to come here 30+ years ago when I was a student. It's a no-frills local joint. It's been around for ages. After all this time, I brought my 22 year old son back. I've always remembered the pizza as being my favorite. The place is the same... old school and basic. I was really happy to see that it's still there. The pizza was exactly as I remembered. I personally love their sauce and the crust is thicker than regular, but not as thick as a typical Sicilian slice. Perfect The woman behind counter was so great. I really wish I could get to Providence more often for this. Love the old school, authentic vibe. Stay the same, Caserta!

Yelp
Ask anyone from RI...they've been around forever....and there's a good reason why!!!!!!+ THE BRST IN RI

Yelp
Crust was golden and had a nice crunch. The sauce tasted homemade and rich. I'll be back for sure.

Yelp
I took the kids in so they could experience the famous Caserta Pizza and a Wimpy Skippy. The staff are very efficient and their system works seamlessly. They restaurant is kept clean and comfortable. The Wimpy Skippy was definitely good. It is always consistent whether you eat it there or take one to go. I would love to go back there and make my own because I would stuff it full and have much less crust on the outside. The pizza is always fresh and tastes the same as the first time I've ever had it. It comes out hot with a think crust and the ingredients are good. I wouldn't say it's my favorite pizza, but it is good every once in a while. The kids liked it and we devoured that pizza between the four of us.
google avatar

Marilyn W.

Yelp
Of course I always liked it alot and was looking forward to going there when we went back to RI fora visit, However what a big disappointment. It was May 2023, the usual people were not there instead 2 other women. The pizza was soggy and although I clearly said anchovies on HALF of the pizza they put anchovies all over it. Next time in R.I. I won't bother going there.

Yelp
Placed an order online, I forgot to put the topping I wanted. Someone called me immediately and asked what I would like, thank you for that! Didn't take long at all to get the food, also appreciated the extra care with the securing the food with the tape. I also love that they have a parking lot, most places on the hill don't. Pizza is light, crispy, and flavorful. I'm a first timer on the wimpy skippy, soooo good if you like spinach and toppings. Also, perfect size for sharing.
google avatar

Sue N.

Yelp
A must go to every time I return to Rhode Island for a visit! Got my sons hooked on it too! Located "on the hill" in Providence it's my favorite RI pizza. Simple and delish. To me something has changed. Didn't seem as thick, less sauce, smaller in size. But it still tastes great and I will continue to be a loyal customer. Also noticed the Whimpy Skippy has changed. Always a go to for me, I no longer buy this. Bring back the original please!! The only pizza I will eat cold, to me just as good as hot! Nothing fancy about this restaurant, but it just has that cozy neighborhood feeling.
google avatar

Una D.

Yelp
Absolutely love this pizza place. The one issue I have with it is the type of toppings are very limited I got a large pizza with mushrooms olives and pepperoni. And cheese of course. But beyond the the only other option that I didn't pick was anchovies. Pizza is always solid here and when I'm in Providence I usually try to get a pie from here or twins. Parking is in a lot. Price is reasonable given the quality of food. Definitely will be back when I'm in Providence!

Yelp
I will preface this by saying I've been eating Casertas most of my life. Today was only my third visit in the last year. I had stopped in previously back in February and March; both times the pizza I'd become so accustomed to was unfamiliar and lackluster. Since then I've found many other deserving new pizza haunts. Came across a gift card I'd forgot I had and decided to see if anything had changed since March. Went for my usual large Cheese & Roni. As soon as it came out I felt immediately bummed out because it looked just as flat and dull as it did back at the end of the winter. Like the last occasion as well; the pepperoni was not only ridiculously sparse, but it also didn't appear to be the old cup & char 'good' pepperoni. I absolutely remember their pizzas being smothered with pepperoni. No more. I've heard this refrain from acquaintances and coworkers about this decline in their product and sadly I really feel as though, like seemingly many places since Covid, that once great places to eat have now become quite bland and mediocre. The dining room is a ghost town but I'm guessing that maybe the other restaurants on Atwells Ave are drawing away business. Like so many other parts of my past that have gone askew or dithered away, I think Caserta Pizzeria will now too go that way.

Yelp
Nothing like enjoying a small pizza pie with a friend ar Caserta Pizzeria! I was early for a nearby special event and just my luck it was nearby, so it all worked out dreamy. Friendly Federal Hill service and classic pizzeria vibe.

Yelp
My family has been coming to Caserta for decades. The restaurant and their recipes haven't changed at all during this time. They have a very limited menu and follow an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality when it comes to their food. The pizza is thick and the sauce is tangy but they are best known for their "Whimpy Skimpy" pie - a seasoned spinach calzone with olives, cheese, and pepperoni nestled inside the most delicious, buttery, crispy dough I have ever had. This is the item to try if you are new to this place. Pro tip: you can also order your "Whimpy Skimpy" pie assembled but uncooked so you can bake them in your own oven when you are ready to enjoy them. They have a very large parking lot (for Federal Hill) and there is also street parking available. You can call ahead to place your order or order online so that everything is ready when you arrive. This place is always busy and frequently "sells out" on the weekends so plan accordingly.

Chen M.

Yelp
We have been eating Caserta for 30 years and kept coming back. We were there today and ordered a large pizza, a Wimpy Skimpy and pig in a blanket. The Wimpy Skimpy was still cold and the pizza lost the specific smell of spice that distinguished Caserta's from other pizza. The Pig in a Blanket never came when we finished eating the pizza. When asked about it , the woman at the front insisted that she already gave it to us. After checking, she came back with it and said: we made it for you again! Very disappointed after 30 years. Will never come back again!

Marc L.

Yelp
I've been going here for pizza & wimpy skippys for 50 years. I live in Maine now and only occasionally get to go to my favorite pizza place. The pizza was awesome today as it was 50 years ago. What ever their secret is a gift from God!! I can say the same for the wimpy skippy's.
google avatar

Cathy L.

Yelp
Love it all Food is excellent been going here for decades Wimpys are delicious Pizza is so good

Suzette D.

Yelp
Don't ask for extra olives or mushrooms. You'll pay for it and then play dumb when you call to tell them it wasn't delivered as ordered. Customer service is horrendous.
google avatar

Trae G.

Yelp
Old building lots of character. The owner is an awesome guy. His daughters work here as well. So good to see a family business. Not a typical pizza place definitely different. The salad was good and the Sicilian pizza was delicious. Crust is perfect and just the right amount of sauce and toppings. This is a Rhode Island Pizza joint not New York. Your topping choices are sauce, cheese, pepperoni, mushrooms and olives and anchovies. This is a must go to place. If you are visiting here

Caleb S.

Yelp
Love the food here! Definitely a must if you're in Federal Hill. Staff is always so friendly

Patrick D.

Yelp
Take and bake pizza or have them cook it . Order 'well done' for a mind blowing crispy crust . Don't walk in here looking for a meat lovers, Hawaiian pizza , calzones or grinders. Spinach and pepperoni are toppings don't raise your brow definitely worth the trip.
google avatar

Lisa W.

Yelp
Caserta's Pizzeria was much better this time around compared to the last time we were here. The pepperoni pizza had much more pepperoni on it, the sauce was as good as it was back in the day, and so was the crust. We were very happy to have pizza here tonight.
google avatar

John D.

Yelp
Consistency forever rules this place and the pizza is very tasty, especially the sauce. Not a fan of Wimpy Skimpy, seems soggy. Can't go wrong here.

Joseph W.

Yelp
At this family styled restraunt you will be grated by really friendly workers and sometimes even the owner. The food is so good and not to mention the wimpy skimpy. This is a really great way to spend a day if you do not want to cook. The food comes out really fast and it also is delicious.
google avatar

Paul E.

Yelp
The Sicilian style pizza is some of the best I have ever had. The sauce & dough taste fresh while the crust is cooked perfectly & is nice & crispy & the topping are what you would expect. When you are in there, you definitely can tell it's a small family owned place in a good way. The service was quick & good.

Sandy C.

Yelp
Great food, atmosphere and service! Never have a bad experience here! Classic federal hill stop!

Yelp
Tried Caserta after a break of many years. I was surprised to see they now do online ordering, which is awesome. I tried a small "all the way" which is pepperoni, mushroom, olive and anchovy. I don't mind the taste of anchovies but these ones kind of ruined the pizza, making it soooooo salty. They were so salty you could even see the salt crystals on the anchovies. Taking them off left a hint of flavor and a little more palatable but definitely not getting the anchovy again. The pepperoni pizza was good, which was to be expected. The sauce is on the sweet side and the dough is bready which is typical of Castera. Overall pretty decent pizza, a good place to try every now and again. What makes Caserta worth it is the price - only $10 for a small pizza which is reminicent of prices YEARS ago. I think the simplicity of the menu is what allows them to keep prices low especially when some other places are charging double that or more for a small pizza. Very worth the price.
google avatar

Rory O.

Yelp
I had been wanting to try this historic and famous Providence pizzeria for a long time, and finally was able to! For only about $10, an absolutely delicious pizza! Can't beat that
google avatar

Allyssa D.

Yelp
I've been to MANY pizza joints, but this pizza..... literally is unlike anything you'll ever eat. The sauce is so flavorful, the dough is crunchy yet pillowy, and it's just amazing. I can't even count the amount of times I've been here because it's just that good. Everyone's nice, and the decor leaves more to be desired, but no one is really staying in and eating. It's more of a take it with you, kind of place. Which is good enough for me. I do wish they sold pizza by the slice though, but thats just me.

John M.

Yelp
Classic Federal Hill eatery . Good luck finding meatballs with fries elsewhere. Love the Wimpy Skippy! Tough parking
google avatar

Vijay S.

Yelp
Good spot for Sicilian style pizza (thick crust with rectangular slices) on Fed hill. Most places serve the Neapolitan style pizza. Limited toppings and quite cheesy, although the pizza is not as good as it used to be. Their Caesar salad is pretty good. Overall decent experience.

Sara B.

Yelp
Excellent...a simple, straight forward pizzeria! Clean, friendly staff, and the pizza was delicious. Rectangular Not thin like New York, but not thick like Detroit pizza. Sweet sauce, generously applied. Definitely recommend

M C.

Yelp
Omg the dough is fantastic as well as the cheese and sauce. Friendly service and old school feel with great prices. Love it
google avatar

Jennifer H.

Yelp
We picked a large three topping pizza. But I couldn't wait to eat it until we got home to Fall River , so I dived in while my partner drove. If you have acid reflux, this is a great pizza because it does not have a ton of sauce. But if you are lactose intolerant this would not be a good pizza because it is WICKED cheesy . I have always heard of Caserta Pizza but never had it. My partner has not hard it in years. She said it was has good has she remembered. Even though I love thin crust NY style pizza , I also love this pizza. I love the contrast of the crispy crust and crispy bottom of the pizza with the soft cheesy top. The pepperoni is one of the best I have had. Also the service was really good. Can't wait to go back and get one with extra pepperoni.
google avatar

Johnny L.

Yelp
I don't know about their Skimpy Wimpy wimpy skimpy wanna b wimp.. spinach just don't go w/ pizza/calzone if in me lifetime that I ever come back I'll try an actual pizza let's say spinach goes well in spanakopita or as part of bff artichoke doing the dip
google avatar

Susan M.

Yelp
This iconic RI pizzeria is a MUST try. I mean MUST. It's a thick crust pizza and it is FABULOUS. Caserta is the home of the famous Wimpy Skippy which is a Spinach pie stuffed with black olives, cheese & pepperoni. It's MASSIVE and it is $5.25! WHAT? Best spinach pie you will ever have. I HIGHLY recommend Caserta Pizza. It's not far from anywhere in RI ... it's an hour from one end to the other!
google avatar

Logan T.

Yelp
Very good pizza, plenty of sauce/cheese, run smoothy, service was excellent, parking was a breeze
google avatar

Michael U.

Yelp
Boldly proclaiming "If you're not eating Caserta's you're NOT eating Pizza" across Federal Hill, Caserta Pizzeria opened its doors in 1953, nearly seventy years in the business generating a loyal fanbase that continues to sustain take-out and delivery-only options amidst a global pandemic. The "Originator of the Wimpy Skippy," currently open from 9:30am until seven or eight o'clock Tuesday through Sunday, it is behind a Plexiglas partition that guests currently receive items from Caserta's iconic dining room, owner John Campagnone Jr. promising uncompromised quality and safety while prices remain a relative bargain. Offering "New York-style" and "Sicilian" Pizzas, though best one can tell this is a matter of small rounds versus large squares, it was beneath Pepperoni that average Cheese and aromatic Sauce mingled atop medium-thick Crust, a lack of leavening plainly evident with good crunch but a bit too much chew. No doubt a concise menu, two Salads and what can best be described as a pair of Calzones joining the Pizza, $5.25 yields Caserta's signature filled with Spinach, Mozzarella, Black Olives and Pepperoni, though personally the "Pepper Pig" with local Italian Sausage, Sauce and Peppers was both more complex and delicious.
google avatar

Shane L.

Yelp
Old school, no frills pizza that gives you an idea of how legit pizza should be. Don't expect to get a choice of a 100 different toppings, it's not an option here. That alone should speak volumes of how good their pizza really is!
google avatar

Blonde D.

Yelp
Haven't been to Caserta pizza in a few years due to being out of state. Went Friday night with 8 of my friends who grew up in providence. We had a great time reconnecting and we all ordered our own pizza our way. Fantastic! We also had wimpy skimpy spinach pies and I forgot how delicious they are. My only suggestion would be to add extra sauce on the pizza, especially the large. A few of my guests were disappointed because the cheese was melted into the dough with very little sauce if not any sauce at all under the cheese. That's the only thing I would change. We love it and the staff was very professional and courteous to all of us. We will be back again!!!
google avatar

Shawn N.

Yelp
If you a hybrid style of pizza (not too thin, not deep dish), Casertas is pretty perfect. I love the tomato sauce they drizzle on top. The pepperoni had a great classic flavor to it and it was cooked perfectly. As a new person to Providence, this is probably (so far) the best pizza I've had here. I'm not a pizza aficionado, but my girlfriend is...i begged her to try Caserta instead of a competitor after seeing Barstool Sports review. This is good, solid, simple, "I'm hungry and it's Friday night" pizza. Nothing about it to knock on. Thanks for being such an institution in Rhode Island for so long.
google avatar

Marvin A.

Yelp
Is it the bread, the sauce or ingredients??? I mean my wife and I went to town on this whole square pizza. This historic location has one mission to delivery great taste. We literally left 4 slices...took a a wimpy skippy home and it was amazingly good. If I could I would have this for breakfast lunch and dinner lol now all they have to figure out how to freeze a large pepperoni and mail it down to florida!
google avatar

Christine N.

Yelp
Came here as I heard it was a great pizza place. Pizza is very doughy. Lots of pizza sauce that's a bit tangy. They every put scoops of pizza sauce on top of the cheese which I did not enjoy much. Did a 1 topping with pepperoni and didn't think they put any on the pizza and pepperonis were not tasty at all! Took about 15 minutes to make a small pizza. 2.5 stars for service, o-K pizza that is very saucy.
google avatar

Abby R.

Yelp
I grew up on this pizza. My favorite mushroom and olive. Classic toppings and no frills.

Pete J.

Yelp
in my opinion, no visit to Providence is complete without a Wimpy Skippy from Caserta's. The first time I had one was when I stumbled across this off-the-main-drag spot in 1984. 40 years later and it was just as good. Ambiance here is secondary to efficiency and great food, but great conversation with the locals on Federal Hill goes a long way to making you feel welcome in the neighborhood. Plenty of parking, but also only a short walk from downtown.
google avatar

Jackie O.

Yelp
Yummy pizza at a great price. Caserta is unlike any other pizza place in Providence so it's not really fair to give it a ranking. The crust is incomparable--it's thick and doughy and buttery. Topped with cheese and pepperoni, you got yourself a great-tasting pizza. I love the pieces that have crust but also love those middle pieces that are just pure doughy pizza. I've also tried the pig-in-a-blanket which is odd but yummy. Getting here can be a bit of a nightmare by car since it's smack-dab in Federal Hill on a one-way, pedestrian-filled street. But hey, it's worth it.
google avatar

Umberto V.

Yelp
Great pizza friendly staff, was a walk up counter lots of room to stay and eat. You have to love their rectangular pizza one of the best piesIve had

Gary M.

Yelp
Without question my go to spot when in Rhode Island! From the sauce, to the cheese, to the pepperoni, to the crust this is one legendary & historic pizza. Doesn't get much better than this my friends! GaryMo
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing food, loved the pizza! They put olive oil in the sauce. Legendary. And good service. Large space to eat.
