Taste Wine Along the San Andreas Fault Line

"A historic Bodega watering hole that feels delightfully old-school, its interior retains 1939 wallpaper and venerable pool tables, and the menu ranges from simple cans of beer to well-chosen local rosés—making it an atmospheric, no-frills stop for a casual drink or bite." - Ray Isle

15 Best Beachside Restaurants and Bars in Marin and Sonoma | Eater SF

"The ultimate stealth dining paradise is found inside the funky Casino bar, where chef Mark Malicki produces ever-changing menus exactly based on what he can source most freshly that day. Working on a hamburger griddle with just a dishwasher and a server to support him, Malicki consistently turns out dishes that amaze and delight; follow him on Facebook to discover each day’s menu. When the math is right, ordering Malicki’s entire menu makes a sumptuous dinner for two for just under $100. BYOB or purchase a bottle of local Balleto Pinot Noir from the barkeep for less than the grocery store." - Paolo Bicchieri

Google
We heard about there burger and it was worth the drive. I got the double cheeseburger no ketchup with there sauce. My mom got the double hamburger no ketchup with there sauce. It was really good cooked about medium and was really juicy. Unfortunately they dont have french fries but they do have chips. Will definitely stop there again soon it's a definite recommend

Google
Love this spot! The atmosphere is always welcoming with friendly people and a strong sense of community. The menu changes regularly, which keeps things exciting, and everything I’ve tried has been excellent. Great place to grab a bite, have a drink, and feel like a local. Highly recommend!

Google
A casino in Bodega? it’s SO much more! This little place sits beside the beautiful Santa Teresa church and looks like an old saloon from the outside complete w a porch and plenty of people hanging around the door watching pool or checking out the tiny city of bodega - inside there’s a pretty old bar, walls lined w animal trophies and a back room with a few tables for seating if you wish. They serve fantastic lunches (perfect tuna melts and burgers, beer and such) but dinner is where the real magic happens as you watch the chef of the evening whip up classics like pot roast w potatoes, green beans and carrots w an onion brown sauce to crab cakes, pork loin plates, crazy good salads like mixed local greens w local blue cheese, candied pecans, pears and a mouth watering vinaigrette and delicious pasta dishes - all made w local greens and proteins. Hard wood floors are original and the atmosphere can be loud with pool tables near by and a jukebox beside the bar . The place is almost always swamped but they work hard to get food prepared quickly since most orders are to go. Cash only here - it’s 100% worth the trip! Prices are generally reasonable, too

Google
What a find! I heard this was the "best burger" I would ever eat. It did not disappoint. Power was out yet Scott still managed to serve up an amazing margarita (amazing!) and literally the best burger I have ever eaten. I mean delicious. Get it just like Scott makes it. Great service, nice crowd around the bar, and fun scene. Can't wait to come back.

I think I just found the best chef I swear to you! Enter into this old honky tonk bar with a great vibe not realizing I just entered culinary heaven I can’t say any words to qualify how delicious the food is!! The lamb shank was on special, served over hominy. PERFECTION

Google
Sam, the bartender the day I stopped, was Fantastic! And she cooked up the most outstanding double cheeseburger!!! I was there before dinner time, but I understand the menu changes most every night and is quite good as well. The dinner choices were few, but we Great choices....

Sometimes I wished that I live in a small town and had a bar like this next door to me. When looking to spend time in Bodega Bay, I saw dive bar and the description and thought…yes I am stoping there. It is a small menu and appears to change daily but what a menu. I had the duck meatballs. My husband had the polenta. We both could not be happier. For dessert the only option was the panna cotta. It tasted really earthy but the flavor got better with ever bite. The nectarine complimented it very well. The service was great. I love the deer heads mounted on the wall. If I lived in town I can see myself coming here everyday. I highly recommend it.

The best cheese burgers north of the Golden Gate Bridge. Delicious. Award winning cuisine with unique dishes introduced each day. My son and daughter love this grill.

Yelp
Our family came in recently and we absolutely had the best experience after a few unfortunate let downs in the past. Dinner was delicious and the service was very attentive and polite.

Yelp
Such a sleeping beauty - bar, pool tables, greasy wood, oh my. Probably would not of gone to this place on my own if it wasn't for the Yelp reviews. Bar is kinda weird - separate / cash only (bartender let me know it's been cash for 70 years - ok thanks for the history lesson). Now to the food - fricken amazing! Holly is a rock star! Each dish was bursting with flavor. Started with devil eggs with vinegar - really good. I had the the squash soup - super yummy. Also had the Salmon - really really good (PRO TIP: GET THERE EARLY - they run out). My partner had the chicken - she said it was good but came to the table luke warm (bummer). The food changes on the different days and depends on the chef. We will be coming back as a regular.

Yelp
Don't expect great service or great drinks, but if you expect attitude, bad drinks, and good food- do it. Local watering hole. They switch up chefs nightly and menu options. Gotta add them on FB to stay alert of menu. I'd say come here, try it, it's a local "legend spot" only because of Evelyn (96 year old owner). Absolute terrible service except by a very small few ladies. The guys are really rude and non attentive. Pool tables suck. Cash only and ATM sit charge is a whopping $3.50.
google avatar

Jeremy R.

Yelp
We were so impressed with Casino at our last visit we couldn't wait to come back and sample some other menu items. We were excited by the offerings of Dungeness crab cakes and soft shell crab sandwich. Unfortunately the crab cake had little crabby flavor and tasted more like a salmon cake. The soft shell crab was really small and was lost in the bun and toppings. The room temperature french fries didn't really improve the offering.. clearly there is a lot of inconsistency in the kitchen, so caveat emptor, as they say.
google avatar

Yelp
Best cheap dive bar burger you'll ever eat (before 4 pm). Fun little spot with local flavor.
google avatar

Jessamyn S.

Yelp
Terrible " service", if you can call it service at all. This is a dive/local towny bar, which is cool if you just want a cheap beer, but if you want food, go somewhere else. At first, we were told to wait because (as we were told by the bartender) the kitchen staff was in the back "drinking." When we finally got the kitchen staff's attention, they were rude, bothered. and dismissive, as if we were asking them for a favor, yet they're the ones who display their nightly dinner menu on social media and at local hotels every night (which is where we even saw their menu in the first place.) This place is not worth your time. Unless you just want a banquet beer, go somewhere else. Oh, and by the way, in the back room they had a big poster hung up on the wall to thank all the mutual aid first responders for their efforts during the major local wildfires in 2017 (Tubbs, Atlas, Pocket, Nuns, etc). I was one of those first responders; I spent countless weeks here in support of my HOME (I was born and raised in Sonoma County) to help my local community, and yet these folks still treated my wife and I like dogshit,

Yelp
Cheeseburger every time I go here. Simple but delicious. Don't forget it's a cash only place- no credit cards

Yelp
Coolest bar and grill in Sonoma - go on nights when local chefs serve 5 star meals or have a fantastic burger and a beer!

Yelp
The best dive bar in the North Bay. Good drink selection but the burgers are to die for! Two pool tables, jukebox and pinball machines. Always friendly staff. Can't beat it.
google avatar

Yelp
The food is good although our portions were on the small side. The drinks are always great and reasonably priced.
google avatar

Tara W.

Yelp
Amazing west county vibes! Great amazing bar food in the day, and wonderful chefs cooking local inspired food in the evenings. @thehollyandtalishow cooks Friday - Sunday 5-8:30, @huntersupperclub Monday - Wednesday, same time, and James cooks one beautiful meal on Thursdays, same time.

Yelp
Great food great atmosphere! This is a gem of a place, tucked away in the quaint town of Bodega, locals have been frequenting this place for a very long time. The sweet little ole lady who owns it still stops in and works the bar. The chefs prepair some amazing local cuisine with an eye for detail. SoCo has some amazing locally sourced food for all to enjoy... even vegans... and they also offer burgers and such. The bar has a great staff, friendly wonderful environment come one come all. Enjoy your trip to the Casino Bar and Grill. And No it is Not an actual Casino. Cheers!

Yelp
Hopped on the bikes and rolled up for Tattoos & Blues, stopped by Casino to give it another try after I got a message from the owners about my last experience with a former employee. The woman that cooked our burgers and served us beers this time was a genuine sweetheart. Totally different experience. Burger was cooked to perfection. Thanks!

Yelp
Best cheeseburger in Sonoma county. Went there today for lunch with some friends and was absolutely blown away. Juicy, cheesy, caramelized onions and a special sauce. Perfect sized patty and bun. Best kept secret around and I'll be making the 35 minute drive from my home to eat here often. You must go! Bring cash, and an empty belly. Bonus: the bartender in the daytime here makes a killer Harvey Wallbanger if you're in the mood for a cocktail.

Phil S.

Yelp
Best burgers at daytime...best dinner at night. A Sonoma County institution. It's a bummer one group had a bad experience and has resorted to review bombing complaining about the ""new service. The old bartender Michael yelled at everyone . (Love you Michael!) It's nicer than ever now!

Z M.

Yelp
Beautiful and perfect spot. My BF and I had a wonderful fresh meal served with love and a Hitchcok vibe. The comedian Marc Maron was the guest chef - which was both funny and tasty!
google avatar

Jessica T.

Yelp
This place used to be really good but on our last few visits for lunch we had really bad service and burger wasn't the same. I think the original owners sold it or under new management.

Yelp
Worst service ever.... burger not cook... Waitress was obviously not having a good day... Never again...

Yelp
I wish there was a negative star review for the experience our family had here. -Bartender on her phone the whole time, acted annoyed to take our order. She never checked in with us once we got our food as we sat there with all empty drinks. -Some motorcycle guys came in the bar and then she really forgot we existed! As we tried to get her attention to just pay our bill and leave (We had given up on trying to get another round of drinks) she ignored us more and continued to talk with all the bikers and we had to basically stand on the stool and wave her over. Biker guys were having an extremely RACIST conversation openly and very comfortable about what they were saying in the bartenders presence. What a great ambiance!

Michael N.

Yelp
Terrific atmosphere, but the food is very uneven. Had a terrific steak the first time cooked by a very nice guy in a french maritime shirt. Next time the ? show had very soupy risotto (too bad since the seafood in it seemed flavorful). Third time had a serviceable meatball sandwich / salad combo. I'll definitely be back, but the hype about the food is excessive and it is not a bargain. Set your expectations correctly, and check the place out if you have not been there!

Samantha S.

Yelp
Stopped here on NYE. Drinks are STRONG. Environment is a typical dive bar. Service is quick. Typical bar ambience.

Yelp
We went to The Casino for the Holly and Tali pop-up (https://www.instagram.com/thehollyandtalishow/) and it was great. 4 stars for the food, 3 for the drinks (not much of a wine selection, but good for beer and liquor). Service was casual but friendly and helpful (order and pay at the counter, but food is brought to your table). I will definitely go back if Holly and Tali are still there.
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Dirty, dingy, not welcoming. I've heard so many good things but after a handful of attempts we just don't feel really welcomed there. Twice we have kind do just stood there awkwardly waiting for someone to help us and after 13 minutes the last time, we just walked out. I think they cater to their regulars and that's kind of just that. Plus my hair always smells like cooking when I leave.
google avatar

Vanessa H.

Yelp
Charming divey bar with pool tables, a jukebox, and friendly staff. Monday-Thursday they do a pop-up for dinner -- you can always find that day's menu posted on Instagram under @thehollyandtalishow. When we got food, they had kimchi brisket with roast sweet potatoes and curry chicken pot pie. SO GOOD! I don't even drink and yet I would go back to the Casino in a heartbeat. I enjoyed just soaking up the atmosphere.

Sherry R.

Yelp
Racism at its finest. As soon as you walk in the door, if your a minority you feel the tension. Sure enough the bartender/cook grilling her disgusting looking burgers and hotdogs, found a reason to not serve us. So yes minorities BEWARE.

Philip F.

Yelp
Very horrible service the bartender was very rude made you feel like you were out of place first time I experienced racism as soon as you walked in you get looked at like you are not welcome first and last time I ever go to this place I rather go to mc Donald's than ever eat at this place if your of color I suggest never coming to this place
google avatar

Gregory S.

Yelp
The food (Mark Malicki) is great! The bar service is questionable. My wife couldn't get served and gave up. But, when I approached the bar I got instant service. Weird.
google avatar

Rich R.

Yelp
This place gave me a very inconsistent vibe. The interior is very rustic with decors from decades past but the very limited menu seemed very modern. We got excited and ordered the corn chowder, steak and mussel dishes. The corn chowder was very sweet as well as the mussels. They would have been better if they are in the savory side. The steak was ok!
google avatar

Brian B.

Yelp
This place is top of my list to come back if I ever end up in the area again. We came in for lunch ordered beer and burgers at the bar. First off the beer - they had bottles of coors! Usually bars just have coors light. I prefer coors straight from an ice cold bottle. Service was friendly and prompt considering I could only see one person working in the entire establishment. She took our order, got our drinks and cooked our food. Secondly, the burgers were amazing. They were juicy, beefy and came with all the standard fresh toppings. I couldn't ask for anything else. This isn't your fancy burger, no blue cheese or truffle this and that. It also isn't a wimpy thin fast food burger. Just a good burger hot off the grill. The place is kinda an old time western bar, they have a juke box and some arcade games. Family friendly despite the bar. Like I said in the beginning I would 100% come here again looking to replicate what I experienced.

Outloud T.

Yelp
Very, very rude bartender. Almost empty bar she acted very put out to have to help us and pull her away from the 4 locals sitting there. The other guy behind the bar ignored us completely then he went and put his fingers in the food cooking on the stove then proceeded to lick his fingers

Sara S.

Yelp
Excellent food! Great price point. We will be back for sure ! The only point of improvement is the location of the ordering for food interrupts the passage of food servers which is very awkward for customers and servers.
google avatar

Yelp
I wish there was a zero star for service that goes beyond terrible. My wife read reviews on best places to eat in Bodega Bay and read great reviews for this place. We had been driving for 6 hours and it was getting late, only 3 places open till 9 and it was around 7:45pm and we decided to go here over the other options. We walk in the door and notice it's busy so we seat ourselves. The waitress sees us while walking past us, not even a hey guys I'll be right with you or I'm super busy I'll be there as soon as I can. Instead, we received the most rude scowl because we were there. The time now is 8:11pm, maybe 5 minutes after the waitress (bartender) interaction. I decided to walk up to the bar and I said 'hi there, I know your busy and all, is there any chance I can get a couple menus we can look at while your getting caught up?' She snaps back and says 'WE STOPPED SERVING AT 8!' . Would be great to post that on the website for people traveling down the coast. Also, how easy could it have been when we first walked in to just say sorry guys our kitchen just closed.Gal with with dark hair up, guessing the bartender that was running the show, she also was serving the patio area. Wednesday 6-28-23. Worst service ever, and we are always polite and tip well

Mark F.

Yelp
Recommended to us by a local friend. The atmosphere was so awful that we walked out without ordering anything even though we drove 45 minutes
google avatar

Suzy S.

Yelp
We stop here every time we are close by. A different offering every day but we have never been disappointed. Dinner can range from meat meals to hearty salads. There's usually 4 or 5 selections to choose from. You can order one or all to share. Portions are generous so we often bring home tomorrow's lunch. A local bar with friendly service! Don't let the dive bar appearance discourage you...you'll be happy you stopped in for a drink or a delectable dinner!
google avatar

Steven S.

Yelp
The new daytime bartender ..from Canada is a major wet noodle. He's literally everything people hate from there and now he's here ruining a great spot. He works Tues-Thursday. Try to go when he's not working unless you like a compulsive liar that constantly talks about himself. Everyone else there is amazing!

Meg F.

Yelp
Casino is my favorite outing, favorite scene, favorite food. The only thing stopping me from going every other day is travel logistics. Although driving through Marin and Sonoma counties right now with the impossibly lush green hills extra full of flowers and happy grazers is every bit as nourishing as the meal. Chef is a genius of simple elegant presentations, shockingly generous portions, and old-world charm. Every bite is oozing with human thoughtfulness and dense nutrition. The vibrant straightforward ingredients shine so brightly and make you feel so lucky to live in a place where all of this magic grows right out of the ground. If I was lucky enough to have one of those archetypal grandmas who's long-suffered secret recipes represented the pinnacle of comfort and caring, I would imagine her conjuring all of this just for me.
google avatar

Ben S.

Yelp
1st time here last month. Beer and a couple of racks of pool matched with 5 star food for dinner. Will return on my next "to or fro" when playing Bodega Golf Club.

Meg F.

Yelp
Couldn't be happier with this genuine, impressive, and somehow still effortless vibe. The food alone is worth the drive. The set and setting makes you happy to be human.
google avatar

Jessica R.

Yelp
I'm not sure why someone marked this is "many vegetarian options" as that's definitely not the case. Their Daily Menu is very rarely vegetarian-friendly unless your idea of eating vegetarian is just eating a salad. And often when I've asked if they can make something vegetarian I either get a "no" or they end up giving me a lot of egg stuff. Way more eggs than a person should eat even in a whole week. Every time I've eaten here it's kinda just like that, or anyways very greasy, so I don't go anymore. Would not recommend if you're vegetarian, especially if you are squeamish about hunting trophy animals, as there are many, many dead ones hung up all around the inside of this place, literally in varying forms of decay and disintegration. Kinda gross even if you're not squeamish honestly..

Pamela B.

Yelp
I normally love this place- great atmosphere, and I believe when Holly and Tali cook it is generally fantastic. But, just got home from the weirdest meal I ever had (Mark was cooking). We had one of everything on the menu; Salad, at $19, consisted of a handful of lettuce, a slice of cheese on the side, a whole apple (literally-I was given a knife to cut the apple), a drizzle of olive oil for dressing- it was just so bizarre for this to come out of a restaurant kitchen. A stuffed pepper was cold and tasteless, a roast sweet potato cold and under-cooked (and really, $19 for a foil wrapped sweet potato thrown in coals and served with cream on top??) lamb sausage two small ground patties (no seasoning) with a spoon of garnish, fried chicken dish was okay (or my guest was just polite). Portions were stupid small, everything was cold (as if it had been cooked the day before, taken out of a fridge, put on a plate and served without warming) and mostly I was embarrassed as I took good friends there and had raved about the place. Would guardedly return, but only if Holly and Tali are cooking. The meal I had tonight was memorably awful, weirdly cold, expensive for the entire party leaving so hungry, and just, an unfortunate experience. A serious miss and, given his reputation, would think the chef would know better...

Yelp
The last of the true local's bars. Authentic culture is hard to find in Sonoma County these days, and this is it. Pool, good cocktails, jukebox, a simple, good hamburger. All you could ever ask for.

Elyse R.

Yelp
Fun place. Great homespun atmosphere. Great employees and cooks. Usually have two options to order dinner
google avatar

Kathryn D.

Yelp
Got there at 6 on a Saturday, half the menu was already scratched off (like they didn't even have salad). Ordered the haddock and clam chowder. Zero haddock and 4 of the 6 clams were still closed. Told the girl I knew that wasn't right, owner told her to tell us to just crack them open. Ummm google unopened clams, that's not how that works. No replacement no refund; then makes it super awkward that you have to venmo him personally payment. Bummed because the great place we were staying at really recommended them.

Leonardo A.

Yelp
Good old fashioned home cooking in a cool small town. The menu is changed every couple of days. You can feel the) food is made with love. The restaurant takes credit cards but the bar is cash only. Definitely will come back.
google avatar

Tom D.

Yelp
Besides everything Chef Malicki serves being delicious, what is amazing is the menu is constantly changing. It is rare that menu's are repeated. Last night's was another winner. Started with sharing the Brie de Meaux with escarole, Sierra Beauty Apples, buttered toasts and a light creamy dressing. Great starter, perfect for sharing. Entrees were a large tender roast pork with charred cabbage, lemon and chile. Perfectly prepared, layered flavors and a bit of kick from the chile. Fantastic entree. Other entree was equally good and creative. Five large "French Fried" Sea Scallops, slaw and celery root remoulade. The Mrs loves scallops and these went quickly :). I barely got a taste. Shaker Meyer Lemon Pie for dessert and it was very tasty. The filling is made with whole lemons sliced very thin. New dessert for us, If you like marmalade you will love this pie. The Casino Bar & Grill has a full bar but you can BYO for a nominal fee. We tend to bring a wine depending on the menu that night. It's good to go over the ordering procedure, especially for newbies. The menu is on a Blackboard in the corner of the bar. You order with the server there, take a seat in the dining room and your order is brought to you. Cash Only. The servers here are friendly and hustle, be sure to be generous with them. No photos of the food last night, forgot my phone :)

L M.

Yelp
This place is LEGIT. I almost don't want to write this review because I don't want to tell everyone about how great this place is and turn it into a crowded nightmare. But, it's so good, I have to sing its praises. I love dive bars. It's pretty much a requirement of a whiskey swilling Irish girl like myself. But also one that has amazing food and fresh oysters, TAKE MY MONEY. We had the lobster "sausage" which was divine. Mark really knows his sauces and gave us a ton of this lovely brioche bread to sop up all the deliciousness. We also did the ham and chicken croquette, which is not a traditional croquette or maybe not a croquette at all, but more like a meatloaf but still super tasty. The pimento cheese burger on more of that lovely brioche. And then this "clam chowder" with chorizo and a stuff pepper. I was a little skeptical of the chowder and it was more brothy than traditional thick chowder consistency, but tasty as all get out. And worked well with the lovely brioche to sop it all up. Peach pie was also on point. This will definitely be on our roster for places when we don't feel like cooking ourselves. Solid dive bar interior with pool tables and jukebox but also nice picnic tables outside with an impressive array of flowers in bloom (we were certainly envious of them). Not sure if we can bring the kids here (maybe outside?) as we have three little hooligans. But, if that's allowed, we will definitely be here a LOT. The menu changes everyday and the only place I know that is crazy enough to do that is French Laundry. So Mark and his lady chefs have some serious BDE. We haven't tried the non-Mark days yet, but we will definitely be trying them as well because if Mark vouches for them, you figure they have to be solid.
google avatar

Paul C.

Yelp
Yelp calls this a dive bar but that's only 1/2 true. Out back in the garden patio they cook and serve probably the best food in the area. There's grilled oysters, crab cakes, pork cutlets, duck, and more. There's different chefs, everyone recommended the weekend crew, and they did not disappoint. The outside tables are weathered picnic tables, there's no table cloths, so don't bring your uptight sister here. This is a sweet little spot for someone cruising the PCH or staying at a B&B in the area. Decent beer selection inside at the bar. Serve yourself. Pool table and TVs inside for locals or if you're bored. Moderate prices for the quality, location, and experience. I'll be back!!
google avatar

Jack W.

Yelp
Holy poopoo! This reminds me of Adam in "Northern Exposure"! This is a real bar; pool tables and jukeboxes; except the owner was once a famous French chef! (Maybe there's a story about why he ended up owning a bar and serving exquisite French food there, like a story you'd see in a French movie.) Whatever the case may be, the food here is divine! You wait in line to order something exquisitely French from a dry eraser board, hoping the item you want hasn't run out (yeah, there is a limit to the quantity of each item); all along, men and women who spent all day working with their hands outdoor rambunctiously chat and gulp beer around you. Am I in Cicely, Alaska?

Lisa G.

Yelp
this is my go-to place --there was never any reason to go anywhere else. lately, sadly, the food has sunk and the prices have risen: in the last two months, I've paid $23 for a luke warm fish soup : a table spoon of fish hidden in under cooked noodles with broth. doesn't seem to matter which day of the week you show up: my friend treated us to a weekend night of thin tough steaks and frozen store bought French fries. $29. I want this note to actually help the kitchen there's been griping and maybe with the details I offered with a bit of thought we can all rejoice once again in your culinary genius
