"Marina District French bistro Castagna is saying goodbye, closing at the end of October after eight years in business. The city is getting more expensive and less safe, according to owner Stéphane Meloni, who is heading back to France." - Caleb Pershan

Have only been here for a weekend brunch with friends so i cant speak to their full menu. BUT...the caramelized French Toast is decadent!!!!! An absolute must try! My friends had eggs benedict which they really enjoyed and i had a croque monsieur. The mimosas were also some of the best I had...really smooth and quality champagne. The place is a little tight though - i definitely felt like we were sitting on top of some of the other patrons in there. Regardless, I would definitely come back!

Amazing little bistro. The food was perfect, staff is super friendly and personable, in a nice area with relaxing atmosphere. Not as loud as some of the restaurants around the neighborhood too, which made it a bit romantic. The steak tartare was full of flavor and beautifully crafted, and the ratatouille, fresh and unique. Would definitely recommend for a nice quiet meal or small plates over a bottle of wine.

This small, cute restaurant explores the cuisine from Nice in Southern France. This makes it quite unique and maybe worth trying if you have a craving for items like pissaladière, a pastry with caramelized onions, olives, garlic and anchovies. The food was enjoyable but did not really impress me. Service was also OK - personal but a touch inattentive, and there was a long unexplained wait for the main course.

Best French Restaurant in San Francisco for the money. It has a nice atmosphere. 7 or so tables inside & 5-6 seats at the bar. Its welcoming owners, good quality fares, authentic foods that have a special little attention given to the presentation will make you want to come back. I've been back countless times. NOTE: this is a place where waiting for made-from-scratch food is understood.

Cozy little bistro on chestnut street with an open kitchen. Food is prepared by the owner and offers a variety of French dishes with a nice flavor. Everything taste fresh and healthy. Not the typical French heavy sauce or salty dishes in some French cuisine. Simple presentation with a personal touch. Not well known yet but worth the try for everyone who enjoys a family run and owned business with a personalized service.

Beautiful restaurant with incredible food, wine, and staff. They make you feel very special and the food complements that beautifully. The owner (I think) is this incredible French guy who's full of life and energy! The food was very good and the wine pairings beautiful.

This place is the best food in the Marina, hands down. Pair that with charming, warm, authentic French owners who quickly become your best buds, and this will soon morph into the go-to neighborhood joint you never realized you needed. Always a good decision to go to Castagna!

Really good food. Some dishes I got reminded me of the south of France. Our waiter was from Nice and has definitely upped his game providing much better service on par with American service than his counterparts. As always though he knew all the dishes and wines. Some might say he is a bit too talkative and friendly with the ladies but it didn’t bother us.
