Castillos has an excellent selection of Latino food and other products. Truthfully, we mainly visit Castillos because of their amazing bakery! Castillos has a big variety of pan, we have sampled almost all, and everything we have sampled was excellent and importantly, inexpensive! Castillos also has a full service butcher, with excellent Mexican cheeses, including fresco and oaxaca! They also have a big variety of packaged Latino cookies, treats, and other products, as well as a bulk section with a huge variety of dried chilies and legumes. There is a small cafeteria inside, too, which we tried once years ago and remember was pretty good (the seating area is usually crowded every time we visit). However, there are a few drawbacks. One drawback is that some products have a huge mark-up compared to other nearby stores (we noticed this even before recent tariffs). Another drawback is that the produce section is definitely hit or miss and unfortunately, unreliable; for example, on some occasions we noticed the avocados are perfect, but on other occasions the avocados all seemed about to spoil but were priced the same. The last drawback in my opinion is that Castillos has a big variety of corn tortillas from a couple of companies that sell white, yellow, and even blue corn tortillas; however, we have tried all the varieties of corn tortillas, and surprisingly and disappointingly, none of the varieties we have tried really taste like corn and were almost flavorless. Again in my opinion, the Mission or Guerrero corn tortillas sold at Target or QFC taste better! Hopefully Castillos can find a better corn tortilla supplier, like the corn tortiallas I bring back from my hometown by Doña Lupe or even El Super!!! Overall, I highly recommend Castillos for the butcher, unique selection of Latino products, Mexican cheeses, and especially, the bakery!
