On the Grid : KO Pies at the Shipyard

"How do you get to KO Pies? Come down Marginal Street along the water, to a guard post at the gate (you're entering an active shipyard) and continue to an old brick building to the left with a giant like green butcher knife standing out of the ground next to it. The space itself is pretty simple, with an ordering area just inside the door and a few tables to the left. More seating can be found outside, with a covered patio that has a good amount of communal bench seating for those warmer days and nights. KO is an Australian restaurant. Though other options are available, the main feature of the menu is the Aurelian meat pies. A variety is offered, including one with ground beef, another with beef and cheese, a braised lamb shank pie, a curried vegetable pie, a beef stew pie, and a rotating selection of pies of the month. Get your pie as a floater (with mashed peas and potatoes with gravy on top. They also offer a selection of beers, cider, and sangria." - Nick DiStefano

The 15 Best Breweries In Boston 2024

"If hoppy and citrusy IPA-style beers are your go-to, you’ll appreciate Castle Island. Both the limited-release hazy IPA called Vern and the hoppy-but-approachable American-style IPA mainstay Keeper are great. Beyond those, there’s another reason why we love the Southie location: the South Shore-style bar pizza from Bardo’s. Their pies feature super thin and crispy crust and the classic “burnt” edge with cheese flowing right to the tip of it. The taproom is in a charming, warehouse-like building with doors that roll up to a lovely, plant-covered patio. " - valerie li stack

The Best South Shore Bar Pizza in Massachusetts | Eater Boston

"Norwood’s Castle Island Brewing expanded to South Boston in late 2021, and it has a South Shore-style bar pizzeria onsite called Bardo’s, from the family that until recently ran the decades-old Randolph event space Lombardo’s (you’ve seen the giant chandelier from the road.) Bardo’s features a few fancy pies alongside its standard topping options, like the “happy camper” — pesto, fresh mozzarella, kale, roasted red peppers, and parmesan. There’s also a gluten-free cauliflower crust available." - Terrence Doyle

We couldn’t have asked for a better venue for our wedding reception than Castle Island Brewery in South Boston! We live near by and knew it was the perfect place for our August wedding. The brewery’s spacious, airy atmosphere made it feel both relaxed and elevated for our big day. We utilized the indoor and outdoor space for our guests to enjoy. Kevin (event manager) was incredibly communicative and clearly had expertise in carrying out wedding visions. It was catered by the associated company "Off the Vine" and our guests raved about the food. We opted for reception style meals so had a mashed potato bar, pasta bar, carvery station and stationary appetizers. We loved the late night pizza addition and specialized dessert. My favorite part was that we did not have assigned seating but there was still plenty of space for our guests to enjoy their food. This encouraged more mingling, and eventually encouraged an incredible/lively dance floor. The staff at Castle Island Brewery went above and beyond, and are people our guests still talk about even 6 months later. They paid close attention to ensure we (bride and groom) were taken care off, as well as the older guests. I really cannot say enough about how kind, accommodating, caring and genuinely excited/supportive the entire staff was. If you’re looking for a city wedding venue that offers something a little different, with amazing beer and a fantastic team to back it up, we can’t recommend Castle Island Brewery enough!

Went today for lunch and this place is spectacular! The staff is nice. I ordered lemonade and pretzel bites. They were extraordinarily great! Know if you know me, you know I’m a picky pizza person. I only like specific pizzas. The bacon pizza was amazing. The cheese, the bread, the bacon, it was just too good! Castle Island Brewing, thank you for this wonderful visit!

Hands down the best brewery in Boston. The staff is always welcoming, the weekend vibes are unmatched with live music, local business pop-ups, and fun games. Their selection of house brews never disappoints, and Bardo’s food is absolutely top notch. A must-visit spot for locals and visitors alike.

I hate writing this review because normally this place is great but this is not a sandwich. 75% of it is bread. I've had it in house and it's never this short on filling. Not sure if they ran out of pork or what but getting home and opening this up is a slap in the face for $16-$17 a sandwich. Chips always good 👍

Food was great. Highly recommend the garlic honey wings. The sausage pizza was good also. Didn’t really know what type of beer I wanted, asked the bartender for something light and fruity for my first drink and something similar but a little heavier for the second drink and he hit the nail on the head both times. Place is really big with indoor seating and some outdoor space. Was pretty empty when we went, but im sure it gets busier over the weekend. Laid back atmosphere. Fair amount of street parking nearby, but would probably be harder on the weekend. Planning to go back for a beer flight for sure!

Came to celebrate a birthday and it was a great time! Staff was awesome and friendly. Food always slaps, highly recommend sweet dreams pizza & CBK wrap. They have a pickle ranch that should be on everyone’s bucket list. As a non-beer drinker, I appreciate the seltzer and hard lemonade options, though the flavor this time around was a pina colada type…interestingly good for one drink but could get overly sweet on #2or3. 10/10 would recommend, whether you’re with family or friends.

Time has improved this establishment in so many ways. Beer is varied and good in their styles. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Food is at the upper end of brewpub cuisine. And they do flights .
