NYC’s New Restaurant Openings

"It’s time we bid farewell to the surf n’ turf, and say hello to the Catch N’ Chop, a steakhouse and seafood spot on the Upper East Side. It’s in a space formerly occupied by Parlor Steak and Fish, and run by a family with a couple more restaurants, including an Italian steakhouse in New Jersey." - will hartman

I recently discovered this establishment on the UES and it’s become one of my favorite spots on Friday nights! It was easy to make a reservation through Google maps, the table was ready right away, the staff is very courteous and accommodating. We came primarily for drinks 🍹 and were not disappointed: all three tequila cocktails were unique and delicious. Our server was also very knowledgeable about their origin and the making. The buratta salad is at the top of my salad list now! It’s like a meal by itself to my European standards and the concoction of tastes makes it truly unforgettable and wanting me to return there for just this one dish 🙃

A Refined Culinary Experience at Catch n’ Chop Catch n’ Chop offers an elegant and elevated dining experience that truly sets it apart. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the sophisticated atmosphere, impeccable service, and attention to detail throughout. Every dish was thoughtfully crafted and beautifully presented. The pasta was rich and flavorful, the steaks were expertly prepared, and the cocktails were nothing short of exquisite. Each element of the meal reflected a commitment to quality and creativity. A special thank you to Emir, the owner, whose gracious hospitality made the evening unforgettable. His presence and genuine care for guests elevate the experience even further. It’s clear that Catch n’ Chop is more than just a restaurant—it’s a reflection of Amir’s vision and passion for excellence. If you’re seeking a refined and memorable evening in New York, Catch n’ Chop is an exceptional choice.

My new favorite brunch spot on the UES. Steakhouse omelette and Tuna Tartare are phenomenal. The hostess Joanna stopped by our table and talked with us about the menu but mostly just to get to know us, which is a rare experience in NYC. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Google
I came here for a birthday celebration for my dad. We did not know what to expect since it had changed over from previous ownership at Parlour, which left a bad taste in our mouth at its end. However we were delighted to be treated to a wonderful dinner. Absolutely top notch service from our waiter, John, who checked in frequently and knew the menu inside and out. The food runners and bussers were on point refilling our water and cutlery. We always felt like someone was taking care of us. I was very pleased with the overall experience and would eat here again anytime. Thank you, John and the rest of the Catch & Chop staff for a wonderful evening!!!

I am writing to express our sincere appreciation for the truly phenomenal dining experience we recently enjoyed at your restaurant. From the moment we arrived until our departure, the service was impeccable, and the quality of the food was, without a doubt, the best we have ever had. We were particularly impressed by Joanna Pope, the floor manager, our server, Christopher Barber, and Chef Jose Perez. Their attention to detail truly made every aspect of our visit outstanding. If it were possible, we would gladly give six stars! Our experience truly went above and beyond what we anticipated – it was like turning things "up to eleven." Beyond the exceptional food, the suggested alcoholic beverages, both from the menu and off-menu, were also superb. We wholeheartedly recommend your restaurant to anyone seeking the absolute best in service and dining.

Stoked this is in the neighborhood!! Gorgeous restaurant and all of the dishes knocked our socks off. Chicken roasted perfectly and the seared Halibut and Salmon were both delicious. Loved sitting in the beautiful bar/patio area. Epic wine list and spirits list. And the BREAD. It’s pretzel bread! So so so good. Service was great. It’s our new go-to spot.

Google
Catch n’ Chop blew me away. The space has this sleek, modern-luxury vibe that instantly makes you feel like you’re somewhere special—but without any of the pretentiousness. The food is incredibly fresh and thoughtfully prepared. What I loved most is that they really let the flavor shine—nothing is overdone, just clean, bold, balanced bites. And that dill dressing? I’d put it on everything. Easily one of my new favorite spots.

Very disappointing. I used to come here when it was Parlor and it always had a nice decent crowd, good food and ambiance. The music was not conducive to a dining experience when I arrived around 7pm. Then food took a while to arrive - oysters & shrimp were good. Branzino was overcooked to mush. So ordered another one which was marginally better but still a tad overcooked. Spinach & fries were okay. Nothing special. But then blaring music (so-called) came from a party downstairs. Completely dominating the whole restaurant. Unbelievable. Will not be back. Such a shame for this neighborhood!

Yelp
This place exceeded my expectations! The food was fresh, the portions were generous, and the service was excellent.

Yelp
What a neighborhood gem! Boyfriend and I came due to the sign outside stating live jazz Tuesday's and Thursday's - such a fun vibe! Space was gorgeous. Main dining room is separated from the bar area, but we are definitely planning to return for both vibes, as the bar had tvs. Would be fun for a game and steak night! Dinner was excellent, as was the service. We had oysters/shrimp first from the raw bar which were stellar, tuna tartare and octopus for our apps. Tartare was unbelievably good, octopus was a touch overcooked but the flavors of the dish were excellent and it didn't detract from our enjoyment. Now, I love steak but am usually pretty underwhelmed by steaks at steakhouses, hate chewy or fatty steaks, and never get the cook I want. This was literally my favorite steak of my life, and very high on my boyfriend's list (although he couldn't name a better one). Melt in your mouth strip with a great crust and perfect cook, flavors on point. Complemented by the crispy onion strings (would return for literally just a vat of these) and the delicious mushrooms. Meal was PERFECT. So much food, took some steak home which I'm pumped to eat today. Can't believe we have this spot a block away, exciting and also a little dangerous. We will absolutely be back.

Yelp
This was the best culinary experience I had in a while. The hostess welcomed her and took our coats with a warm smile. The musicians were getting ready (they have a live band on Tuesdays and Thursdays) and the place was slowly getting packed. We started with the tuna tartare that was more generously portioned than I imagined and it was the best I had in my life. The subtle addition of sesame oil on the cracker was a nice surprise. For the main I took the seared halibut on beet risotto and mushrooms. I was beautiful and really good, but maybe a bit too cooked and crispy for my taste. Delicious nonetheless. My friend had the pork chop and it was perfectly cooked. We had a side of Mac and cheese that I would highly recommend ordering. For desert, we had the flourless chocolate sesame cake and it was incredible. I love sesame and the flavor mixed magnificently with the chocolate. Amazing experience. I'll go again to try something different. I feel like this is the kind of place where everything on the menu is good.

Yelp
The food was spectacular! Probably one of the best steaks I've eaten in my life, the service on the other hand is equally as good lightning fast and very friendly, and finally the ambiance was very fitting, I loved where I sat and it seemed to enhance my experience, recommended! 5 stars

Yelp
This brand new restaurant/bar is doing it right and much needed in this area! The ambiance is on point. Different style seating that accommodates to your event. The wrap around intimiate sidewalk (indoor) seating behind the bar is a hidden gem in my eyes. You are tucked away from the bar and restaurant scene where you can gaze into your dates eyes and share a few laughs. The bar is ginormous! Sitting here gives you that fancy bar feel with perfectly dimmed lighting. The restaurant seating and decor makes you feel cozy for those big dinner parties. The service is top notch... from the hostess to your waiter, they are knowledgeable and courteous. Never felt rushed and more importantly, the suggestions made were solid. To the best part, the food and the housemade cocktails. It was sooooooo tasty and perfect! The pictures don't give it justice. You have to try to believe it, not a bad dish had! I can't even make a recommendation because all of it was amazing. The cocktail list looked yummy, all of it! I went with a tequila cocktail that went down soooo smooth and still packed a mean punch! After a few, I was feelin nice and had to pump the brakes just to enjoy the food. This spot will have you coming back, whether for a drink, an enjoyable meal or for the staff and ambiance. You can capture some solid IG pics here... enjoy! FYI: They have a private room with a bar downstairs if you choose to hold an event.

Yelp
We have been waiting for this restaurant to open, and it finally has! (We visited on 08/09 so during its first week). If I could eat more I would have definitely ordered more food, but that just means I need to go back. Our table was not ready when we arrived so we waited at the bar. Unfortunately they did not have their liquor license yet so we were only able to order beer and wine. The cocktail menu sounds unique and interesting so I am definitely looking forward to trying them next time. The bar has 3 TVs where they were playing sports with no sound and can sit about 20 people or so. The inside was dimmed and has various styles of seating (bar, booths, tables). It definitely has a more fancy/ intimate feeling to it. Our service was so-so but I think it was first week jitters. The hosts weren't very clear as to how long we'd be waiting for our table that we made a reservation for. While at the bar they never came to us, and instead we had to check back in once we realized it has been 10 minutes past the reservation. At the bar they initially didn't tell us it was beer and wine only so we spent more time trying to figure out what to order. Once we were seated our waitress was AMAZING. I think her name was Sarah? She had great suggestions and made us feel super welcomed and comfortable. Now to the food... IT WAS ALL SO GOOD!!! - Charred Octopus (4/5) - Lobster Diavolo !!!!! Definitely a highlight and also on the spicier side. (5/5) - NY Strip w/ Garlic Mashed Potato & Grilled Jumbo Asparagus (5/5) - Cheesecake (3/5) Will definitely come back for the rest of the menu. So happy for this addition in the UES!

Yelp
As a Parlor Steakhouse truther (gone to soon), I was glad to see that something has finally filled the space after years of vacancy. My dining experience, however, left me missing Parlor even more. The ambience and design of the restaurant is very nice, and the staff are hospitable but there is still work to be done in the menu, and the food and drink left me wanting a bit more. The roasted half chicken dish while topped with chimichurri would've benefited from another dose of acidity across the board, and the lemon potatoes were definitely more like paprika breakfast potato esque (still good but false advertising). The portion size was appropriate. I was left wondering why they didn't yet have a burger on the menu as it would be a nice meat option beside the equally heavy lamb chops and steak choices but maybe that's in the works down the line. The drink menu was appealing with many Hawaiian inspired concoctions - my master cleanse was exactly that - a spicy opener that turned muted in taste after each sip. There was also an egg white cognac combination that needed a bit more depth. All in all, Catch 'n Chop has potential but I think slight menu tweaks will take it in the right direction. Another chance will definitely be had but Parlor still takes the cake for now...

Yelp
Had SUCH a fantastic meal at Catch 'n Chop. The whole experience was great and one of the best meals we've had in a while. The steaks were extremely tender and came with roasted garlic bulbs and the most delicious peppercorn sauce. Everything came out very hot and perfectly timed. Drinks were great, though we ordered classic cocktails not the ones on the craft cocktail menu. Manhattan and French 75 were great. Sides were amazing. Creamed spinach, crispy onions and mac and cheese were a great complement to the steaks. The garlic mashed potatoes weren't anything special but everyone was so great that it didn't bother us. This is a great new spot on the UES and with the fantastic service and food, we will definitely be back.

Yelp
Great experience at catch and chop. A little overpriced but service was good and food was decent. Nice dining room and polite and attentive staff. We will probably return for another meal.

Yelp
First time last night. Was spectacular! Ambience classy and cozy. Our waiter Brian was A+. Haven't had a professional server like that in maybe ever. The food and I mean every bite of everything was utterly delicious. Our whole group was delighted and look forward to our next visit.

Yelp
Ah ... a new steak restaurant on the UES. YEAH! We had been looking forward to going to this restaurant for a good while... especially after reading so many phenomenal reviews. Finally made our way there a few weeks ago. DISAPPOINTED just doesn't begin to describe it. I ordered the Bone-in Rib-eye and my friend ordered the NY strip steak. There was a small little bone on the side of my Rib-eye going INTO the middle of the rib-eye ... vs a nice long bone down the edge of the steak... as it always is everywhere else. There was SO MUCH FAT and GRIZZLE that I hardly had a decent proper bite of steak, LITERALLY ... trying to cut around/ thru all of the fat& grizzle. I love mashed potatoes and I love cream spinach but theirs just didn't taste right ... to me... nor my friend. Anyway .... After we left and looked at the receipt ... we saw that they gave us 2 Rib-eye steak vs the 1 rib-eye and 1 strip steak we ordered. It was just all wrong. Perhaps an off night? For a $250 steak dinner for 2 ... I'll go to Peter Luger's or Bobby Vans in a heartbeat. At Bobby Vans I had the most beautiful Rib-eye steak and lobster tail. The steak was like butter, lobster tail WOW!, ... delicious creamed spinach and baked potato. And Peter Luger's never misses. Don't waste your money here. Go to a "staple steakhouse" ... where you know you'll always enjoy your meal ... no less when you're spending $250 for dinner for 2. It felt like we threw that money right down the drain. I'd rather have 2 dinners at MAZ MECAL or SIENA or ... or ... or ... always delicious. I'm planning my next visit to Bobby Vans ... because it was MORE THAN MOUTH-WATERING!

Yelp
Love that Catch 'n Chop has non-alcoholic beer on draft! The food and overall ambiance is good.

Yelp
Came for brunch twice and I'll come back for dinner. Drinks were good. Brunch menu has great options and very reasonably priced. Service was good. Food came out quickly, which was great, but we were not rushed. Lots of flavor in the dishes. Loved the chicken and waffles and I'm not a waffle or fried chicken person, but it is outstanding! Syrup has a kick and the chicken breading is crispy and light. The steak is very flavorful and tender. Espresso martini ooooof! One of the best I have had. They also do pitcher options and BYOB for an open cork fee. Was very impressed by the brunch. I'll be back. Also, the space wasn't loud and abrasive, like some brunch spots. Space is classy and has good light relaxing energy. Management is super present on the floor.

Excellent Excellent Excellent This restaurant was outstanding The service was phenomenal The food was phenomenal and our waiter Richard was outstanding. Yelp
Everything was very good here. The steak was perfect. Had the creamed spinach and onion sticks, nice. Then the whole fish. Excellent. Thanks

Yelp
Great food! Amazing service and the ambiance is spectacular! They really did it up since the last restaurant. Love this place

Yelp
Great atmosphere, superior food and d service. Had a simple dinner at the bar, which is clearly designed to be a dining option. TVs at the bat, but sound wasn't on so not obtrusive. Danny, the bartender, very personable. Had the pork chop with vegetable slaw, and a glass of dry Riesling. All delicious. The restaurant was not overly lit, giving it great atmosphere. Will definitely return.

Darsel L.

Yelp
Wow. i did not expect what I walked into. The lighting, the music, and the vibe in general was incredible. I was able to make it during happy hour with my brother and ended up getting the steak sandwich, the fish tacos and the fired calamari. i honestly can't tell you what was better. Danny (our waiter) was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the cocktail specialties. "Sweatah weathah" definitely did not disappoint. I definitely recommend this place and will be back soon!

Yelp
They're now open for weekend brunch. Much needed in our hood. I had the meatball appitizer. Ceaser salad with chicken as a main course. All excellent as was the most attentive service. Obviously, I'll be back. Highly recommended.

f d.

Yelp
First with the good: The place is beautiful, the staff is excellent, Danny behind the bar is fantastic, it feels good inside. The steak was cooked perfectly. Excellent dirty martinis. Great house Cab. Now, the bad: The food - just not up to snuff. The oysters weren't good, that was to start. I love oysters. Disappointing. The steak was tender but way too salty. The creamed spinach? Inedible. The amount of salt in there would have scared the biggest of salt lovers and it was served clumpy. With all of the incredible steak places in Manhattan, this place doesn't come close. If you're going to drop $60 on a steak, it needs to be excellent. A drink or 2 at the bar? Go for it. A full meal? Go elsewhere. Overall grade is a C

Yelp
Excellent brunch. Nice menu reasonable prices and good atmosphere. What more could you ask for?

Yelp
We got to experience Catch 'n Chop as the first guests and it was such a treat! The food was cooked to perfection, ambience was spectacular, service was over the top excellent. I had the filet and my GF had the pork chop. Both were amazing! The waiter Ozzy even gave us a tour of the restaurant and introduced us to the manager. 10 out of 10. We'll be back! Exactly what the neighborhood needed.

Jane D.

Yelp
The food was okay but the service was very poor-- dinner took a very long time to come out. The bread was cleared away after the salad was done rather than waiting for the main course, The waiter was nice but obviously very inexperienced as was much of the wait staff. I was very disappointed. Restaurant is well decorated.

Yelp
The food was great! Excellent service. I would definitely go back!! My steak was cooked to perfection. This restaurant is a well needed addition to the upper east side!

Aspen J.

Yelp
Food and service were absolutely amazing! I promise, trust me when I say ask for Chris, Brian, and Daisy. Best serving team ever that made the amazing food and drinks that much better. I will certainly be a repeat customer!

Clyde M.

Yelp
I have enjoyed there a great Caesar salad with steak, one of the best I ever had , as well as the hamburger and the aged steak ....all were great

Felix R.

Yelp
Great food and service. Good for groups and the menu was varied enough for kids to enjoy.

John M.

Yelp
Growing pains - food too spicy but manager welcomed our input- maybe better next time

Poly V.

Yelp
At the former location of the beloved Parlor steakhouse, we were very much looking forward to trying C&C. Evening started fine but went downhill after the entrees came. Two steaks came out very overcooked-- cardinal sin for a steakhouse-- and waiter didn't check on us until almost done with the meal, despite a light crowd. Would have been a 1-star review except for: a) good flavor on the steaks that were cooked properly, and b) helpful manager who tried to remedy the situation.

Jean O.

Yelp
Very nice ambiance and service. No liquor license yet except beer and wine. Hope the bar menu will improve and include a burger.

Billy W.

Yelp
Just opened so tried it out and got the bone in ribeye. It was basically perfect that cut--extremely tasty. I will go back and try the Porterhouse and NY Strip. A welcome addition to the neighborhood for sure.

Melissa F.

Yelp
We were so excited to try this new addition to the neighborhood and honestly, it exceeded our expectations! We were so happy with the food, atmosphere and the whole experience. Our server, Mable, was so lovely and her recommendations were on the money (think peppercorn sauce with the pork chop). We over ordered because we wanted to try so many things. We had the crab cakes, grilled caesar salad and tuna tartare to start, and then the pork chop, filet mignon, roasted wild mushrooms, halibut and a pasta special (bucatini with clams). Everything was truly fantastic! The wine was great, the side indoor patio with the window open perfect for a mild October night. It will definitely be a fixture in our rotation (that was our wallet crying but pay no mind). Even the huge bar, with a few televisions showing sports, is a great option just to have a few drinks or even grab dinner. Can't wait to go back!

Tyrone H.

Yelp
Beautiful new renovation to the old Parlor Steakhouse building from new owners, who also apparently own Siena down the block, but whoa. Wildly expensive menu - doesn't even list a burger* and the cheapest main course is $32 - but it's not so much the prices as the fact the service, while friendly, simply doesn't deliver to match those prices. On a not-especially-busy night recently it took way too long for us to be even acknowledged when we sat down, then (basic - not cocktails) drinks took way too long time to arrive, and then the food did, too. Maybe they're understaffed? My appetizer took an overly rlong time to turn up, and it transpired a server had been walking around with it asking random people if they'd ordered it (I hadn't noticed). That appetizer, incidentally, was a plate of $7-per-piece shrimp, but those were sad little supermarket-sized shrimp, not the giant ones you'd expect for $7. My other food was good but not great. I'll go back to try it again, but I hope this doesn't turn out to be like the nearby Voglia, which also charges wild-ass prices that just don't match up to the experience. *There is apparently a Bar Special burger that isn't on the menu (?), don't know what it costs.
