I loved our dinner!!!! Service was on point, very slow Monday night but it was lovely. Wine was great, they had a good selection. Food was delicious! we had the baked brie and calamari to start, rainbow trout, short ribs and Shrimp Pastis, and to finish Creme brûlée and a delicious cake!!!!!! Would absolutely come back

Amazing lil find.. great Service , very attentive. To die for Baked Brie , amazing red beet - feta salad & a very juicy tender New York .. loved my jalepeno margaritas.. i definitely recommend this bistro ..

Wow!! What can I say except Wow!! The French Onion soup was perfect. Oh Oh Oh, The Baked Brie was Absolutely Delicious!! My husband ordered Le Sage ( a chicken dish w/ mushrooms, with an amazing sauce ) He loved it & I ordered the Beef Bourguignon, ( what can I say but, Yum!!!

It's sad, but there are too many mediocre restaurants in SF. Catch is consistently one of them. They have a great location and it wouldn't seem too difficult to offer food that's at least a notch above, but they remain mediocre because they are not challenged and options are limited in the neighborhood (and they have a full bar). Sure the chef taste the food (he seems to spend a lot of time in the front of house). After several visits, I can say the French Onion Soup is not seasoned to the point it's not worth eating. The steak is hit or miss, but basic. And the fries are limp. The molten cake? Cold to the touch. All I can say is anyone who gets into the restaurant business should have a passion for the food. If the food is good, business will always be steady and customers will be loyalty and visit frequently. If purveyors don't bother to improve when they get business by virtue of location only, eventually, another restaurant will literally eat they biz. Catch fails to deliver a meal worth recommending.

The food I had delivered from here was a bit pricey but oh so good. The chicken with mushrooms and beans was delicious and really hit the spot. I highly recommend people try this place out and i garentee you will be very impressed by the food here. I give them 5 stars ⭐️.

I am so delighted that this restaurant has taken over the Catch restaurant that was there before. I love that it still looks the same way. I love the look the restaurant and the open space in the front with a fire pit. I had the seafood chowder and the Croque Monsieur. My husband had the burger with bleu cheese and enjoyed it - great fries. The French Onion soup needed more seasoning but was good. Prices are a bit high, but what else is new?!?!? The dessert was a crepe that I fully enjoyed. The best pick for 4th of July. I will be coming back.

I had small dinner and will definitely go back. Cod was delicious, I would like it little less rare but flaky. Unintentionally ordered meatballs, it was good. Update: Amazing experience. Artichoke was one of the best I have ever tried. Didn't touch the white sauce at all. It's butter/lemon sauce is so good. Mix fish grill had salmon, tuna, and mahi mahi. All very fresh. Very well cooked. Risotto under it was surprisingly flavorful too Brulee was too sweet for me, but I liked it. Update: so sad to hear Catch would be closing permanently. Will miss it a lot.

The service was quick, friendly and efficient. I really enjoyed the Seafood Cioppino. The Ceasar salad was also very good. I also tasted the Beef Bourguignon and it was excellent. I really enjoyed this place, I feel it's better than most similarly priced French Restaurants in SF.

We returned to Catch French Bistro after seeing a show in the city. Again, the people there could not be any nicer or more welcoming. They had a couple of specials, so we both tried the lamb chops. Perfectly prepared and wonderfully delicious. We splurged on a bottle of Chateau La Gurgue, and enjoyed the opera cake dessert. As always the ambiance was perfection from the music, decor, and everyone who worked there. We're going back later in the week!

Review My day started with yearly cleaning of emails, what ever happened to never delete anyway? And then old contacts, several San Francisco Chefs who have moved to other cities, I'm sure they dumped their old 415 years ago. I did save some. And looking forward to our dinner at Executive Chef Mina Habil's new place, Catch, I never met them, nor was I part of their soft opening or tastings. I run San Francisco Foodies and one of our members wanted to go here, she said it brought back memories of the best of San Francisco. Personally, the best seafood in San Francisco was Aqua, one of the restaurants that brought Michelin to the US and California, so I've heard tell. But Aqua is dead. Spoiler alert, Catch never was Aqua, and like Aqua's three stars, never ever will be. Walking into Catch was like a blast from the 2000s, and then staring at our AIDS Memorial Quilt hanging in such a way to never be viewed, brought me back to 1980s, getting phone calls from gay men in the Castro being 'unhoused' coming back from a doctor's appointment to their Landlord showing their Apartment to prospective tenants, or from a short hospital stay and their belongings in the street a new person living in the apartment... (well that was NYC). Most were shorter, most I couldn't help, they only called when they ran out of all of their other solutions anyway... victories were few, but living so far away I never celebrated. Calls stopped, not because of new meds, cocktails or San Francisco providing better protection. I pondered the wisdom of putting this in a place where only straight people will see, I can't imagine a gay man eating here. To imagine Catch's menu, walk down the aisle of Costco or Safeway (more gay men can be found a few blocks away there). With a few french words (lowercase intentional). San Francisco Foodies filled a table for eight in an empty dining room. Their print paintings and striped walls and dark lighting help conceal how empty it was, every chair movement, footfall was felt. Like walking on Aqua's grave. The only saving grace was Dee's Keys and their chanteuse was an echo of grande French performers. Catch's prix fixe menu allowed for three courses costing only sixty-five (65 USD) dollars. Curated by Chef Habil and his most trusted advisors he put himself on our plates. I ordered Moules frites for an appetizer, their fruits de mer (mixed grill) and for old times sake Molten Lava Cake. I'll make this shorter than our painful meal. I tasted only one of the mussels and it was astringent, and I recalled eating bad mussels before and could only taste vomit after that, the heavy sauce was old and congealed, the mussels were cold, fries were cut nice, but thin, marking them as french, not Belgium I suppose. Fruits de Mer (Missed Grill) was probably not grilled, even though they have marks you can buy frozen. They were overcooked, grey covering some slimy pieces of cauliflower. Finally, I cut into the hard, dark, cold dome, but didn't try the obviously dry chocolate cake. Overall, with twenty-four courses between us, everyone sent back one or two dishes. I would have sent back more if I felt it made any difference. I paid my bill in full, and will accept no retries. I do revisit every five years or so, but please reconsider hanging our history in their room of haters.

We had dinner at Catch last month on a rainy weekday for SFRW. Despite the fire pit and colorful umbrellas and wall decor, the restaurant still had a cold ambiance and didn't feel inviting. Service was wonderful, very attentive and accommodating. However, the food was just OK. We started with the crab salad and French onion soup. The crab salad was very good and refreshing, but there was just a bit too much avocado that it was overpowering. The French onion soup was a generous portion and very cheesy, but a little tiresome near the end. Our mains were the NY steak & fries and duck leg confit with mashed potatoes. The steak was standard, cooked more like a medium than the requested medium rare. Fries were standard as well. The duck was moist and had good flavor. I was expecting a bechemal sauce as written on the menu, but the duck was served with a red wine sauce instead. For dessert, we had the molten chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream and opera cake. Both were very rich and good, and perfectly portioned. Everything was presented nicely and good, but nothing was outstanding. We weren't blown away by any dish in particular. Everything was just "fine". My one takeaway is a cautionary tale: Be cautious about the inverted hanging umbrellas. As pretty as they are, they are a physical hazard. One of them dropped from the ceiling during out dinner service. Luckily, it hit the floor and not anyone. Staff was informed, but I wonder what would've happened if anyone did get injured.

Overall it was a decent place. Oddly it was empty on a Saturday morning for brunch, but good food and service! We had made a reservation on open table, marked birthday, and they even brought us a small mousse with a candle. Very nice touch!

Catch French Bistro is not the Catch that was formerly at this location, but it is very good in its own right. It's a casual and delightful French bistro in The Castro. The eclectic menu has something for everyone dining in a bistro. The 3-course $65 menu option is a good value but we didn't want dessert so ordered a la carte. Coeur D'artichoux / grilled artichokes starter was good, just too much butter/oil prior to dipping in the lemon aioli. French Onion Soupe was delicious and hearty. Crab Salad was just ok, a small portion of lump crab meat mixed with avocado. My entree was Halibut special. It came perfectly grilled, with a nice sear, moist interior and a good size. It was excellent and tasty. Aaron G enjoyed his Salmon which arrived with spinach corn risotto. The wine list is very good with many selections by the bottle and a few choice ones by the glass, in different price ranges. A few more Chardonnay choices by the glass would do well in San Francisco. Service was excellent, friendly and present. We enjoyed sitting outside during dinner with the heat lamp on, and away from the live music inside where it would be harder to converse. Outside and inside, Catch French Bistro's ambiance is a refreshing spot in the gayborhood.

I really like how they've redone the space. It has much livelier decor and the menu has switched up a bit. I stopped in for lunch today and had the french onion soup and the Crepe Forestiere. The french onion soup was very savory and hit the spot. The crepe was also very delicious and came with a side salad. I would definitely come here again. Our server was a Frenchman who was very friendly. I can't complain about the service. I think they run things here like they do restaurants in France. They won't disturb you after you finish your meal since it's considered rude, so you'll have to flag the waiter and ask for your bill.

One of your waiters keeps asking "How do you want your chicken or fish cooked, rare, medium rare, etc. . ." I always say well done for obvious reasons, but one time I ordered fish and it was raw in the middle. Please tell your whole staff, chefs especially, that if you don't cook poultry or fish thoroughly then someone could get Salmonella which can lead to food poisoning. Other than that, excellent service and food, when it's cooked properly.

I was so sad when Catch closed down and I am so grateful for the new Catch French Bistro. My plate, Croque Monsieur, was delicious and I will come back for it again. The service was on the slower side but the food tasted fantastic so I did not mind. I also loved the seafood chowder. My husband had the burger with bleu cheese and enjoyed it - great fries. We went to ketch French bistro today to celebrate pride. It is our usual location because we like the outdoor seating and were delighted to discover that they changed ownership. The food was plentiful and absolutely delicious. We had two plates of escargot and bread and we had a salmon sandwich., eggs Benedict, salad, fettuccine and everything was great! The atmosphere was great and our server Antonio was charming and wonderful.

The service was excellent. The mushroom ravioli was the favorite. It's listed as a starter and I am hoping that it becomes a main dish. The drops of truffle oil in a cream sauce enhanced the flavors to a different level. We also ordered the Le Sage Chicken, Grilled Salmon over a Composee Salad, a Beet Salad with Strawberry Dressing with added chicken, and the Tuna Tartare. Ketel One martinis and a nice zinfandel from Paso Robles kept us occupied as we enjoyed each dish that was brought to our table with perfect timing. Live piano music in the background helped to set and keep a warm mood in the restaurant on a cold and drizzly evening. Opera Cake and a Peach Tartlet were our choices for dessert. Both were shining examples of the care taken by the management to make sure that the dining experience ended on a high note.

This place gets it sooooo close, but in the end it's the food that counts. Service is great. Ambiance is essentially still the old Catch (which is good), and on a nice day the front patio seating is a bonus. That said, on to the food. I only had two items: escargot and the duck leg in port wine sauce with mashed potatoes and brocollini. Escargot is hard to mess up. It's butter, garlic, parsley and a bit of salt. Extremely bland, which I attribute to it being almost completely free of visible garlic. The bread that came with it was great, but I didn't really feel like sopping up the meh butter left over. The duck leg was, frankly, atrocious. WAY overcooked and I was left to try to hack my way through it with a butter knife. The mashed potatoes score a two out of 10. It was a mashed potato -- but missing almost all the dairy that would normally make it velvety and buttery. It's also not French mashed potatoes -- as in, through a ricer first. The port wine sauce tasted like it was just reduced port. I saw some sad little bits of shallot in it, but not enough to add anything to the taste. Brocollini was so under-cooked I gave up trying to saw through it with the aforementioned butter knife. Their menu looks so inviting, and there are most of the bistro classics on it. Sounded promising. But like many others have said, it's all under-seasoned and the execution nor the preparation have anything to do with a French Bistro. They should go hang out at L'Ardoise Bistro a block away and eat dinner there a few times to see what they should aim for.

We had an earlier reservation snafu elsewhere and lucked out when we were able to grab one at Catch for four of tonight. Im sure glad we did too. Outstanding food from start to finish. Not only was the food top tier, the service was on target, making us feel welcome and unrushed. Being xmas eve they offered a special prix fixe meal for $85 per person, which we all opted for. Two of us going with the filet mignon and two doing the chilean sea bass. We shared a dozen oysters which screamed fresh as they slid down. Ending our meals with several of the sweet endings including the Opera and chocolate lava cakes, buche de Noel and pumpkin creme brulee. Each of us proclaiming ours was the best! Im looking forward to making this a new neighborhood rotation as I work through the regular menu. The feel of the new gem in the Castro is how it vibes from brunch to casual pals night out to being date night worthy. Mellow muted live music allowed for use to talk without feeling stifled or having to shout. While not inexpensive. Its well worth the outlay.

Ugh. I did not go in as a hater, but left as one. Mediocre food wrapped in a rainbow revulsion of gay tourist pandering. I am not being a cynic; I know people come from around the world to be out and visible and celebrate in a way they cannot at home, but we also owe those visitors authentic, high-quality SF experiences. This is not one of them.

Came here last night we tried The three course menu option $65 per person, was a great value. Food portions were large so sharing was definitely happening. Escargot was really good as was the beef bourguignon we really loved the Crevettes Flambees Au Pastis. Also have a really nice selection of French wines available.

I was a huge fan of the original Catch for MANY years. Was sad to hear of their closing this year due to the owner retiring. Then a short time later Catch French Bistro opened. Same space and layout with a nice design update. Today, on my third visit back, I had a late lunch sitting in their front room facing out to the sidewalk. I started with the French Onion Soup. A classic. So deliciously cheesy, sweet, and comforting. That probably should have been plenty since it's so hearty, but I also ordered the Croque Madame. Oh. My. God. I've had many CM's over the years, but I can honestly say that this was the best one I have ever had. The menu does not specify but I'm assuming they use Brioche bread. Big and pillowy. Diving into this was heaven. So rich and satisfying. Accompanied by a lovely salad of greens. Light with just the right amount of vinaigrette. (I hate it when restaurants overdress and drown the salad. This was NOT the case here.) Alas, I only had room for 1/2, given I started with the FO Soup. Leftovers are not a problem! (My first time to CFB, also for lunch, I had the Beef Bourguignon which was also super tasty.) So glad that Catch French Bistro is continuing the tradition of excellent food and service. I look forward to many more return visits.

I loved the prior restaurant, Catch, and love the new version even more. The service and food are great and the interior design was fun and inviting. We'll be back often.

Breakfast was awesome! Had the 3 course brunch, went with the omelette Florentine and it was excellent. Food was fresh and well served! Serving was excellent, you actually leave feeling satisfied, and the coffee was awesome!

I think your owner should really rethink about what you're doing. Cheaping out will only stop people from coming back. You're charging people quite a bit, and that means u need to deliver, but you did not. We paid $200 for a meal we could have prepared better at home, so why did we come here? We ordered the New York Steak Medium Rare, more on the rare side. What came was a well done steak that's only about 1cm thick when it was supposed to be 1.5 inches. At $50 a steak this was extremely poorly done. You poured this gravy all over it ruining the steak. We can make steaks at our home 10 times better than this. The Boeuf Bourguignon was eatable, but too few pieces. The food was not photographable. The presentation was horrible. The service was great so I feel sorry for the waiters. We won't be coming back. Very upsetting experience.

It was Sunday night dinner time, so there were only four parties in the restaurant. We talked about the dessert options with the waitress and decided not to order any dessert. She still brought us a check charged with two desserts placed "by mistake." She was not busy at all that night. The food was mediocre.

Dependable high quality dinning. Its location near a MUNI line adds convenience. You can't go wrong with the catch of day often served with a delectable sauce. Extremely comfortable interior with a fireplace adding warmth. As I said, "you can't go wrong" at this sea food specialty restaurant.

Food was ok! My French onion soup was nothing of saying ; I will come back soon ! Small portions - Service was good ! Maybe it was not a good day for me :)

The service was welcoming and friendly. The food was absolutely delicious. We had the Croque Madame, the Mahi Mahi Sandwich, and the Steak Sandwich. We were all commenting on how scrumptious our meals were. We will definitely return there.

So glad this place reopened. Food good still. Great location. Friendly staff. Please go. They weren't busy because people seem to not know they reopened.

I have been at Catch for many years, before they were Catch French Bistro. We would go there a lot because we love the food and the atmosphere. We have been there for New Years Eve on several occasions. This was the first time we were there for New Year's Eve under new ownership. Before Catch became Catch French Bistro they would keep the menu the same on New Year's Eve, and we loved that because they have an exquisite menu and you can order all your favorite without being limited 1 appetizer, 1 entree from a prix fixe menu. We would order up several appetizers, and more than1 entree per person to sample a variety of entrees from their delicious menu. The menu under the new ownership is very similar to the one under the old ownership but with a few more added items. When I made reservation for new year's eve this year, I assumed it would be the same menu, but they had a prix fixe menu, so I wasn't thrilled. But the prix fixe menu was my fault because I should have asked ahead of time instead of assumiming. When I made my reservation, I put down that it was my partner's birthday and asked to have inside seating. When we were seated and met our server, he was nice. I also told him that it was my partner's birthday, and he said Happy Birthday to my partner. So we ordered our 3 items per the prix fixe menu, the food was good like usual. So throughout the dinner, we saw other servers served up desserts with candles for other tables because someone at those tables were also celebrating a birthday, a whole bunch of servers got together at those table and had a small celebration for the person. Finally, our dessert came, but they only had 1 dessert which was for my partner, but there was absolutely no candles on the dessert, no birthday celebration from our server or any server. So I sat there without my dessert, until our server came back minutes later with my dessert. He did apologize. We were extremely disappointed that my partner did not get candles on the dessert so my partner can make birthday wish and blow out the candle. So why do a birthday celebration for some tables and not for everyone? I should not have to remind you again since I put it on my reservation and told the server when we were seated. In the past under the old ownership, when you put down birthday, they would have a little Happy Birthday card at your table, very simple that said Happy Birthday, that takes like 5 seconds to do, and candles on the dessert. So new owner of Catch, train your staff well, if someone has a birthday and they tell your server or put it on their dinner reservation, and you put candles on everyone who came to celebrate their birthday then DO IT FOR EVERYONE! Don't leave one table out because you just put a BIG damper into their dining experience. It's bad enough to have to wait till the last day of the year to have your birthday celebration. The restaurant was not even busy on New Year's Eve, so can't blame it on the restaurant being busy and forgetting the little gesture for everyone. While disappointed and not thrilled, we thanked our server, and left him a nice tip. Our server was nice, but he failed to recognize the simple and small gestures that would go along way with a customer. We left feeling like Catch do not deserve our business and we won't be coming to catch as often as we have in the past. The service under the new ownership has definitely declined significantly. We were there in September for our anniversary dinner and the service we got was just okay, nothing to rave home about. Do better Catch, otherwise you will start to lose your regular customers.

This rating is pretty much centered on their amazing steak sandwich. The meat was tender, juicy and packed with flavor, and the toppings and condiments used were all super fresh and delicious. The fries were tasty as well.

Really awful service, even for SF. Was down and waited 20 minutes for someone to remember us. We were told they are still figuring things out so we should be understanding.... I would wait until they shut down for the next restaurant to fill in the place

Lovely ambiance. Food was pretty good. Service-wise: our server disappeared after taking our order. Just never saw her again except to wave goodbye from behind the bar. Probably would still be waiting for our check if we hadn't ambitiously flagged down a busser. By the way, the place was nearly completely empty. So bizarre. Not sure we'd go back.

I went here today with a friend to try the replacement for previous Catch restaurant. I had the Mahi Mahi sandwich. It was delicious but the fish was quite small. Felt like I ate mostly bread. My friend had the salmon risotto which was good and from previous restaurant's menu. Service always excellent and was great to see staff from previous place. Next time will try dinner and see if it's good also.

Excellent food. The black cod was tops. The French Onion soup was amazing. For the dessert the table had the banana flambé (OMG), the chocolate mousse (so light and tasty) and bread pudding (like a big hug). All in all excellent. Great service too.

The owner is amazing the food a delight in the area and the bartender was awesome and catered to my cocktail requests. Will def be back.

A group of us went there for brunch last Sunday. It was a lovely experience with great food and personable servers. A definite return is in view.

I was disappointed that the original Catch closed, but happy that Catch French Bistro opened as it looked like a nice rework of the menu. All I can say is it's... very French. The wait staff couldn't be bothered to take my order in a timely manner, I had to go up to the bar to get my water refilled, and the quality of the food was on-par with "tourist food" in Paris. One of the original Catch's signature dishes was the mussels/frites with chorizo. This paled in comparison and the portions were tiny. We paid $150 for lunch. and wound up eating less that 1/2 of it. Afterwards we walked down the block to get a real meal.

We were regulars at the original Catch, which closed about 6 months ago. It had always been a little pricey for the Castro but the food quality made it worth it. Now, the prices seem similar, but IMO the food isn't quite as good, even for similar dishes. Side note: given how much eating out has gone up, I was pleasantly surprised to see 2019 prices on their menu... My husband ordered the mushroom ravioli and a fish entree (sorry, I forgot which one). I ordered the truffle fries and Caesar Salad with salmon. He liked both his meals (but he always does), and my salmon was perfectly cooked. The truffles fries were limp, not crispy, and the salad part was just ok. I could've done a better Caesar at home. Food: 3.5/5 Our waiter was great. He seemed to be aware that they had to start all over, even for customers of the old Catch. He made our experience enjoyable. 5/5 Ambiance: It's exactly the same. If you stare at minor details, there are differences, but otherwise, no change. Ambiance: 4.5/5

The salmon risotto and salmon sandwich are absolutely delicious! Another friend had a huge burger and frites and everything was very well prepared and delicious. Love the ambience and decor, a real Parisian experience! Well done everyone! We will return soon.

This new restaurant in Castro on market Street has incredible food and service is also a great view. If you want to sit near the window, I went for lunch when the prices are more reasonable reservations for lunch or not necessary but for dinner you probably should get some.

The food was amazing and the staff are friendly. They accommodated a group of us and everyone was pleased with brunch and cocktails.

Slow, rude service, many typos on the menu, mediocre food. This place is not long for this world. The old Catch was fine. This- not so much.

Nice revival of the space and good service but it's over priced. They need to have more specials.
