What It Takes to Keep a Restaurant off Big Delivery Apps | Eater

"A Portland-based bicycle delivery service founded in 2017 that markets itself as a local, fair-pay alternative to large third-party apps. The company expanded rapidly during the pandemic (order volume up nearly 1,000%) and now works with about 100 restaurants, growing its courier roster from seven to around 40, including many former restaurant workers. Its fee model charges restaurants a 10% delivery fee while diners pay $3–$5; the company keeps 5% of the order fee plus $1 of the delivery fee and passes the remainder — including the full tip — to couriers. The service integrates with restaurants’ online ordering platforms, emphasizes direct communication between restaurateurs and couriers for fast problem-solving, and promotes an ethos of sustaining local businesses and providing livable work for bike couriers rather than pursuing aggressive market domination." - Kristen Hawley

Their systems do not connect well with the restaurants you order from...thus, orders are often very late. Better off using DD or GH, even if you have to pay a little more. Much more dependable.

CCC saved me this week! They were super helpful and timely with my last minute deliveries and everyone I interacted with was really kind. I'd highly recommend if you need any sort of courier service. (They delivered both within Portland and to the greater Metro area, i.e. Tigard + Lake Oswego)

I just moved back to Portland and I lived on the 4th floor. The elevator went out and someone from CCC fixed it randomly. They moved all of my things in. My grandparents were there to help them put things where they needed to be. I didn’t ask them to put together my bed, but they did. Like… after moving across the country, starting a new job, and dealing with a broken elevator, the last thing I expected or asked for was for them to put together my bed. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

CCC is legit. I run a similar courier service in Columbus, Oh. We had issues with an online ordering provider and the Owner of CCC was more helpful with resolving the issue than the online ordering provider itself. On top of that we now all communicate with each other and try to help each other out. Community is great, I love to see it.

CCC PDX has consistently impressed me with their timely delivery, fantastic customer service, and good nature since they opened a branch here in Portland. They are parterned with some of my favorite lunch options downtown, (Laughing Planet Cafe, Charlies Deli, etc.) and have never failed to deliver (ha!) 5/5 stars, cute, fast, fun.

I can't imagine a more intelligent way to service portland than what these guys are doing! I order a lot from Pixie Retreat and would always choose the bike delivery option but had no idea that CCC PDX was behind it. Now I know there are lots of other places which deliver using bicycles. I don't own a car and don't see a reason to support large, faceless companies which add to traffic & environmental pollution. Local delivery in Portland by bicycle - brilliant. Every time I've had a delivery, the people were very friendly and very professional. Thank you guys for doing what you do.

Needed to urgently bring a Covid test to a friend right as my dog injured himself and needed my full attention. CCC stepped in quickly and kindly and got the job done - without burning fossil fuels. Will absolutely be using this service again.

First and foremost, I contacted the Portland CCC to inquire about their organization. At first, the guy I spoke with was hesitant and vague about their "Business," but when I revealed that I work for DD and UE as a bike/ebike driver and that I'm just looking for a third job, I was quickly cut off and told to submit a resume, which I would have, but when I inquired about my equipment, it was dismissed as insufficient. I wasn't furious about anything; I was unhappy about this man, who was unpleasant and pushy from the time he picked up the phone and rushed the discussion because he was at a birthday celebration. I apologize for interrupting; I didn't intend to cause any problems So I hope you accept my apology; all I was looking for was a third job, and I also wish you had given me the opportunity to call you back or have you call me back when it was convenient for you, so I would know what sort of equipment i needed. Instead, you simply wished me luck with dd and ue, and before I could respond with a thank you or with a follow-up question, you abruptly hung up the phone. By the way, for those who are reading this, the conversation lasted barely 2 minutes.
