9 Houston Restaurants Celebrating African and Latin Flavors

"Tucked away in the Two 90 Food Court in Jersey Village, CC’s specializes in Southern comfort-style Delta hot tamales with soul-satisfying fillings like smoked barbecue brisket, Cajun chicken, and beef boudin, among other options. The tamales are served out of a trailer, with the owners’ Mississippi-born roots (and family recipes) underlying the deep tradition apparent in every bite, but you can sit and enjoy your meal at the food truck park’s seating, or take it to go." - Camilo Hannibal Smith

I always ate the traditional pork tamales until I saw the food truck that sold different varieties nearby a hotel! The three kinds of tamales are Oxtail, Classic Brisket, and the Cajun Chicken. My favorite is the oxtail because the masa absorb the flavors from the meat. It is seasoned very well. I would just ordered more of that one! It was a great experience to try and plan on returning again another time.

Decided to give CC's Tamales a try on a Saturday evening. I ordered a half dozen of pork Tamales and a half dozen of beef brisket Tamales. The Tamales we very moist and seasoned well, but there was no difference in taste and texture of the pork and beef brisket Tamales. We came for the oxtail Tamales but they were out. Customer service was great. Prices were reasonable/ fair. Atmosphere was also great.

These tamales are so delicious, I’ve never had tamales like these. We can’t wait to try them all. If you’re craving tamales, these are a go to! we got the beef brisket & Cajun chicken, 10/10

Google
After trying the brisket and oxtail tamales last Saturday we decided to go back and get more of the oxtail tamales today they were good. Mistake! Although the service was good the wait time was ridiculous! When I placed my order I asked what was available I was told Cajun chicken and boudin, it would be a 40 minute wait for the oxtail tamales. I ordered what they had available thinking I would get my order without any wait time and leave. I was surprised when she handed me a buzzer and was told they would buzz me when my order was ready. After 45 minutes of waiting, I got back in line for another 15 minutes only to be told they were working on my order. Which seems to be the standard phrase when you approach the window with a buzzer, this was told 2 other customers who had placed their orders right before me 45 minutes prior. I asked if the oxtail tamales were ready and she said yes. So I ordered and paid $30 for a dozen oxtail tamales only to get home and only have half dozen. I’m annoyed because I waited an extremely long time in the heat for tamales that were supposedly already cooked spending $27 and then paid $30 for oxtail tamales and not have the full dozen. It’s not around the corner so it’s a lesson learned for me.

I was jus told today about this places and decided to try it out.. I was impressed. We got the Oxtails & Cajun Chicken Tamales. We ordered 1/2 dozens of each. It was good. The only thing I would say is that they could have given us more than 1 oxtail with my half dozen tamales. I recommend them. Gues the next time I will request a few mo oxtails with my order.

The TAMALES OMG! Was not good. I'm from Greenville, MS home of the Hot Tamale festival. Theses was THE DRIEST Tamale I ever had from someone who suppose to know a hot tamale not to be dry. If I could give 0 star on them tamales I would. Disgusting ‼️🙄 Good Service and Atmosphere though. Ig they gave me the ones that was sitting out. EWWWWWWWWWWW. Scott's tamale and hot tamale heaven in Greenville, MS would never.

Google
Food was ok, but could've been better. The turkey leg seemed to be slightly overcooked, and several of the tamales were missing masa. Also, my order was incorrect as I asked for a spinach and shrimp tamale but was given a broccoli one that didn't get eaten.

Google
My husband and I just got a dozen of their brisket tamales and we IMMEDIATELY went to the Internet to review. These tamales were perfectly spicy and the meat was perfectly tender. Tamales are always a bit dry because of the corn. Not these! Do yourself a favor and order a bunch of them to cure your seasonal (or permanent) depression. Also get yourself a honey bun while your at it, you will not regret it. We will definitely be back for more!

Yelp
Stopped by this truck off Jones Road in Houston. We ordered the beef and pork tamales. Both were delicious had just enough kick to them. Wanted salsa but were good without it. There was no line and the food came out piping hot

Yelp
Love the brisket tamales and like supporting a small business. The chicken tamale was a little lackluster but wanted to try it regardless. I would definitely go back and try other things so go support this business!

Yelp
I've been here maybe 2 to 3 times and they are definitely a solid four stars. However, I would admit the last time I went that tamales were pretty good but something was different about the seasoning. I can't really put a finger on it but they were good. They definitely put their version or spin on tamales. There are a different style. I like them however, they're just different. So you may be surprised when you try them because they they're nothing like you've had in Houston Texas before that's for sure. I would almost say there an acquired taste. The customer service is great. I will definitely come back and try more tamales maybe it was an off day a few weeks ago but the seasoning was different. It wasn't bad. It was just different or strong if you will. I highly recommend that you give them a shot. It's always great to support local businesses. These guys are doing a great job with their business. So far I have tried the pork and the beef. I will definitely try more and update my review when I go back.

Yelp
Food was OK... Oxtail tamales were just blah blah.... More hype than taste IMO.... I'll try again to see if it was a fluke

Yelp
The boudin kind of blended in to the masa and you could not distinguish the boudin taste in that particular tamale. The brisket was very good but we would be willing to revisit for another try. The service was great and it is located in a small food truck park off Jones Rd.

Yelp
I drove over an hour to try this place out based upon TikTok and I was completely disgusted. Initially, we ordered and paid for 3 oxtail tamale bowls, waited 1 hour and 30 minutes before we were told that they had ran out of oxtails and could only give us 1 tamale bowl. That really made me angry. Then when we received the 1 tamale bowl, it had no flavor and the masa was horrible and to top it off this food truck is expensive as hell for the food you receive. I have no problem paying for good food. But this is one food truck that I will never return to nor will I recommend to anyone. No ambiance.

Yelp
Whew! There is definitely some heart here. I found this place via GrubHub. Simply just browsing around for something to order and this place came up of which I've never heard of before. I called them to confirm that it was a legitimate business for which they did confirm. 20 minutes later I was parked in front of this food truck ready to try me some tamales. Simply put... I was not disappointed. For the very first time I've had a tamale that's hand made and did not have a lot of extra masa wrapped around it and at the same time the masa was extremely well seasoned. I mean it was hard to tell the difference between the flavor of the meet and the masa. That right there is some fine fine cooking skills. Now you would think with such skills that the chef was directly from Mexico. NOT. These babies came from soul food city Memphis. I was very impressed. My only issue with the tamales is they did not have any real spicy ones on the menu. As well as the need for a little more meat. They did however tell me that I can make a special order and they can have them for me the next day. I'm like..... BET! Now I also tried the BBQ ribs and I can tell that the chef indeed has skills on that pit. As a fellow griller however I can tell that because of his regular cliental that he is holding back some on flavor. My advice is if you make it... They will come. Just be consistent with those extra spices and the word will get around. There are more pepper heads in this city than you can imagine. Spice it up and Prosper!

Yelp
The brisket tamales were delicious. The Cajun chicken was pretty good too. I haven't tried the shrimp yet. Hoping they have some ready when I go the next time

Yelp
Unreal tamale's and boudin fried egg rolls! Been here two years and he is the only truck that hasn't left since to beginning

Cassandra C.

Yelp
The chicken tamales are the best , all of the tamales are so good they don't even need sauce they are very juicy I've eaten here about 8 times and enjoy sharing with friends and family

Yelp
Great tamales. You have to get the brisket ones. You will write home to your mother. Seriously.

Yelp
I came across CC's Hot Tamales during the holiday. I wanted tamales but i wanted something different and welp i found CC's. I ordered 4 dozen brisket tamales because we were having a small get together and guess what EVERYONE loved it and couldn't stop saying how good it was. The flavor and spice were well combined. I come from a Mexican family and I approve of these! Love that is not a lot of Masa. I highly recommend CC's. They're easy to communicate with and they offer other stuff as well. I ordered 4 dozen again, but this time for a drive by baby shower. Just TRY THEM!

Yelp
I have visited CC's food truck twice now. The first time I bought a dozen tamales. Ate them all in one sitting! They were delicious. The second time, I had a chopped beef BBQ sandwich. Again, great. The sauce was really good. If you are near Jersey Village, I highly recommend you stop by the 290 Food Truck Court on Jones RD and visit CC's. - Joe

Yelp
No matter what I show up at the food court for I always stop and get tamales from CCs. Is always packed when I go there so I assume it's all good.

Yelp
Best Tamales i ever had in Houston. So flavorful and very delicious. The guys who run it are very nice, and have great customer service. Most definitely my new spot.

Yelp
Since trying one of the top tamales in San Antonio about two years ago I've been looking for someone closer to my area that could compete. I tried their pork tamale and it is the best tamale I have had to date. I will definitely be back for more.
