The Environmental Impact of Compostable Take-Out Containers | Eater

"A large composting company serving the Seattle region that has documented the high costs of contamination, reporting it spends millions annually removing plastic bags, forks, and spoons from incoming material. Company representatives have supported stronger labeling and standards for compostable products at legislative hearings, arguing that deceptive or non-industrial-grade items impose heavy processing burdens and undermine the environmental benefits of composting programs." - Gosia Wozniacka

Delivery of landscape mulch in Fall 2024 was delivered on time however I was extremely disappointed (and shocked) this Spring to discover that there were pieces of hard and soft plastic throughout my garden. The plastic was visible only after it has been spread throughout the landscape and had the winter rains wash over it. Cedar Grove refunded the cost of 1 yard of material, however I will never order from this supplier again.

Damage done to truck from loader in Maple Valley. Then management tells me they're not gonna pay for it. And they have a little sign posted, saying load at own risk. You guys made about 2 to $5000 in damage. And you're gonna tell me it's load at one risk

Google
People are at office are rude. Prices are more expensive than other bark in the area. And lastly their system doesn’t work very making the process take longer 2 yards to get loaded took about 30 minutes

I hate to complain, but that lady in the booth shack on Marginal Way on Saturdays is really crabby. Maybe it's me.

The staff is extremely friendly and professional and their product is quality; nice clean dirt if that makes sense. My experience was a very positive one from beginning to end. When I first called for pricing, the sales person was very patient and informative. I was promised delivery for the next day, and they kept their word. Their driver who did the delivery was considerate and professional, he called me about thirty minutes before delivery to make sure I was ready. When he arrived, he put my garden mix exactly where I wanted it on my very narrow driveway even though it was a tight squeeze for such a large truck. He has good driving skills! My experience was very positive, I will use them again and whole heartily recommend them.

Waited 1 hr to dump yard waste and pick up gravel. Service very slow.. Very bad management.

Google
This place is a scam. I was charged $150 for a truck load of brush, the same size load cost $60 at the transfer station. They charge by volume not weight, and the kicker is, they have some 20 something girl guess the volume. Not only would a truck load of feathers cost the same as a truck load of lead, they have a green, attitude having employee guess the amount. Save some money and go to the transfer station. I wish I did.

Google
Website is not functional for bulk ordering. You can order anything you want, but then you have to call about delivery and to be told why all the things you want, can't be done. Pls simply provide better information up front so your time and your customer's time is not wasted.

Yelp
I would not recommend this product. We picked up a yard and a half and it was not completely composted. Besides having a terrible stink (which has not gone away for 10 days now!), a white mold appeared on the top. Then it turned into a hard crust. We've had to go over the entire yard and break up the top. We've had to apologize to our neighbors for the smell. We also put some at my mother-in-law's house. She is 97 and we feel bad she has to smell it too. We called and emailed the company and their response was disappointing. They don't care if they are selling compost which is still cooking. Never again!

Yelp
What AMAZING customer service! I placed my order on a Wednesday and by luck, they emailed me the next morning telling me that they had a delivery truck available and could deliver that day! I phoned them and asked if there was anyway possible to put the 60+ bags under my carport to protect them from theft and the weather. Anika said she would phone dispatch, ask and phone me back. Well, not 5 minutes later she phoned back and said that was no problem. What a great surprise to come home and find all the bags so neatly stacked under my carport! Hats off to Makaila and Erik that did all the stacking! I wish I had been home to give you a big tip!! And hats off to Anika for even thinking that might be a possibility! You three deserve a day off with pay!! Cedar Grove delivery is the BEST!!

Yelp
PLEASE READ MY EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can see why no landscaper dump here, they charged me 180 for dump for full 5 yard bed, I rather go to burien bark, they charge 100-120 max, cedar Grove is a joke now, that's why they are so empty and burien bark is just packed eveytime I go is because burien bark is fair with their prices unlike cedar Grove. 180!! What a joke, I been landscaping for over 10 years with my truck and not once have I heard of this ridiculous price for 180 anywhere!!! The only reason they are still in business is because of commercial companies goes to them, you won't see any local landscaper going there, wow I'm so outraged that I paid 180 because I didn't have time going anywhere else!!

Yelp
If you care about your vegetable garden Do not buy their " organic" compost or garden mix. Few weeks ago I purchased yard of their mix for my raised beds.To my surprise there was a lot of shredded plastic pieces, rubber bands, hard plastics and rocks 3/4" to 1" . I took pictures and send it to customer service, no response.I even went to the yard and showed it to the sales person, who took my info and said he would pass it to the supervisor. No response. This is a local company, who is selling garbage and marketing as a " organic " product. If you care about what you feed your family DO NOT BUY THIS CRAP!!!!

Yelp
My guess is these guys use a short cycle for composting because the compost is full of weeds. I completely stopped using their compost because all it did was infest my garden with weeds. Not a fan.

Yelp
I've used cedar grove twice this year for organic landscape mulch needs. The product is top notch organic mulch without manure. With this rich organic mulch you don't need it. This week I ordered mulch for my forested natural area for Wednesday then my landscaper said he had to cancel that day. I called them back, and they were happy to change the order to Friday. You can also get the mulch blown service and they offer a senior discount when you ask about it. I asked to have it delivered Friday morning and it was! So happy to have access this local service!

Yelp
This breaks my heart, because I love and admire Cedar Grove for everything they do. They were offering soil delivery, so I ordered almost $100 worth. They promised to call on the day of delivery, and the delivery window was anytime within two weeks of my order. So what happens? Over 15 bags of cement-heavy soil show up at my front door. No call, text or email. So I just finished an hour of hauling bags of soil down four flights of stairs by myself. I'm not ordering or buying from Cedar Grove ever again. EDIT: I changed from one to three stars because CG contacted me to apologize and refunded the entire delivery fee.

Yelp
Cedar grove picks up at businesses and multi family buildings. The trucks are incredibly loud. In July I contacted them as the pickups were happening at 1:30am in multi use zone neighborhood off of stone way. The were very nice and worked with their op team to reschedule to after 7am. This was great! Unfortunately, every 4 weeks or so the trucks are back - waking up pets and humans. Can't really get anyone on the phone, no response on emails and am forced to fb message! I'm so over this! Cedar Grove does not care about anything but their own ease of doing business.

Yelp
Never again will I have a Cedar Grove product on my yard! I had my entire large yard mulched with cedar grove Pro mulch. It was so full of all kinds of trash!! Unfortunately the guy who bought the mulch wasn't supervising his workers when they spread it all over my yard. Nor did the workers notice, or care, about all the trash they were spreading around. I complained to Cedar Grove and took a bunch of photos of the trash in the mulch. I managed to get a reimbursement from Cedar Grove for what they calculated the guy paid for all the mulch. However, I would much rather not have that reimbursement and have a mulched yard without a ton of garbage in it. It will take years to pick it all out. How many birds will think that trash is food and ingest it?

Yelp
I ordered vegetable garden mix. I found a handful of plastic in each wheel barrow load: pieces of balloon particle, plastic bag, colorful hard pieces of broken plastic toys, foil wrapper, candy wrapper etc.

Yelp
Came to Cedar Grove today to get a load of compost. Exceptional service from Jeff. Friendly and he even helped tie our load! Got some great gardening tips and a free bag of plant booster! Thank you Jeff!!!

Yelp
I had a similar experience to other people who reviewed Cedar Grove in the last year (both the Seattle and Maple Valley locations). I ordered the vegetable garden blend, and when it arrived there were bits of plastic and other unidentifiable junk in the soil. And then after my seeds germinated, they simply did not grow. I already had several raised beds, and at this point in the year I can clearly tell the difference between the old beds and the new beds: The old ones (with soil purchased a few years ago) are going gangbusters, but the new ones with Cedar Grove soil purchased this year are not growing, despite getting the same light and water as the old beds. I called Cedar Grove, and they said they had not heard of issues, though I do see a number of reviews on Yelp stating the same issues, so I guess they are not looking at Yelp. I certainly will not be ordering from Cedar Grove again. It appears to have been a waste of time and money.

Yelp
I ordered and paid online only to find out that they can not deliver to my address. That was fine. I understand the city rules on where you can dump soil. The reason for the one star is that the refund was supposed to take 5-10 business days. That seemed like a long time but ok. 10 days had come and gone so I called. It hadn't gotten issued so it'll take another 5-10 business days. If you order from here make sure you call and don't order online. The refund policies and practices are terrible.

Yelp
I ordered 20 yards of topsoil for a landscaping area in Woodinville and marked out on the ground and gave them a sketch of where I wanted the soil dumped. They dumped it in the totally incorrect location blocking the driveway to the buildings behind me. They came out and looked at it and said, "oops, sorry about that but we won't do anything for you to help resolve the problem". Start shoveling!! Pacific Topsoil's next time

Yelp
I received compost from Cedar Grove May, 2015. The compost quickly sprouted WEEDS in my vegetable garden. I contacted Cedar Grove in 2015 and was told they do not have weeds in their compost. I removed as many weeds as I could last year but there are even more weeds this year. For many years this was a prized vegetable garden, my husband was a master gardener, and the plot was WEED FREE, but not after this disgusting delivery. I had the weed identified by a friend who is a master gardener. They Identified is as "Purslane". I will never purchase from Cedar Grove again. I have shown my garden to my many friends and they are appalled to see what has happened as they remember this garden as a prized garden. NO MORE. I repeat myself "I will never purchase from Cedar Grove again".

Yelp
I work for a public utility in the city of Seattle and had to find a place in town to dump huge logs of trees we were taking down. Jeff never batted an eye on what I wanted, where other places turned me away. He made my job easy. We will continue to use them for all of our needs on regular basis. You rock Jeff!
