Where to Find Next-Level Hummus in Portland | Eater Portland

"This art-decked mom-and-pop shop, owned by Palestinian expat Sam Hazza, may be known for its spicy gyros and crisp falafel, but the hummus is also something special. Chickpeas are soaked overnight, simmered, and blended into rich and creamy hummus topped with a pool of olive oil, tender whole chickpeas, and paprika. It’s a popular spot, so call ahead to order Cedo’s to-go Tuesday through Friday." - Michelle DeVona

Google
Their banner says “Best in the World,” and honestly, they are the best in my world. The flavor is unbeatable: fresh, well-seasoned, and just incredibly satisfying every time. You can taste the quality in every bite. One tip: try to get there at least an hour before closing, because they do sell out; and I’ve learned that the hard way. It’s a bittersweet feeling showing up craving one of their amazing gyros, only to find they’re all gone. But honestly, it just makes me happy to see a local business doing well because they truly deserve it.

Google
Place, people, and food was AMAZING! Everything was fresh and flavorful. Servings were large and prices were affordable. A gyro, potatoes, and hummus fed 2 adults with leftovers. We will definitely be back!

Google
The food was delicious! They didn't just throw veggies on my gyro, they seasoned them and dressed them before, which brought more depth of flavor. They toasted the pita before which added an excellent crispness. My wife said it was the best falafel she had in a long time. The homemade hot sauce was as tasty as it was spicy. The fried potatoes were crispy and generously seasoned from scratch. The sweet older couple who ran the place were delightful. This place is killer.

Google
Cedo's Special with Falafel + Hot Sauce EVERY TIME! This has been my favorite local spot on MLK, and is light, fresh and delicious. The seating is very limited, but is excellent for pick up!

Google
Seriously amazing place. Wonderful chill atmosphere. The lady working the counter is so kind. She exudes the best Mr. Roger's energy. I had a gyro and it's one of the best I've ever had. And their hot sauce is so good I found myself saying "Oh my" out loud when I tasted it.

Google
It’s good. Not homemade fresh pita or lamb but quite tasty. Great people running the restaurant!

Google
All the food is lovingly seasoned and prepared. Their falafel is incredible and their baba ganouge and foul were wonderfully doused with lemon. Best of all, the owners are very sweet and welcoming. They can count me in as a regular from now on!

Google
Listen up y'all cuz I'm gonna tell ya something real. At several points during my first meal in this place, I looked down at my plate and thought "every item on this plate is the best version of this item I've ever had, and I can't imagine it can be done better". The falafel, hummus, and the salad were immaculate. Every ingredient was perfect, the balance was perfect, everything. Go here and get the falafel plate, or don't talk to me.

Yelp
I had a combo plate with hummus, baba ganouge and foul madammas -- and man, each one of the three was the best I've had of that dish. I've made all three at home, and I'm an excellent cook, but Cedo's versions are better than homemade. I don't know how they do it, but they sure do it. The couple running the place, who I assume are the owners, are warm and friendly, just delightful. The plate comes with a pita, which I don't think is housemade. It was fine, except there wasn't enough of it! Could have used a second one to go with these three fine spreads. I guess next time I'll buy an additional pita.

Yelp
Love the owners and the food is generally ok. However, they have THE WORST tzatziki I've ever had in my life. So eat their food and support them, but leave the tzatziki off!

Jaret H.

Yelp
Hands down the best falafel I've ever had, and the salad in my wrap was dressed and seasoned so well I could have eaten that alone and been satisfied. Their roasted potatoes were seasoned by pure magic and I bought 3 jars the house made hot sauce to take home and mix with eggs/nachos/whatever else I can get my hands on. The mom & pop that run the kitchen are clearly wizards and will keep me coming back for years to come. 5 Stars easily

Yelp
The food is simply amazing. The service is wonderful and the restaurant is clean and cozy. I ordered a Gyro sandwich as well as Baba Ganouge. The Gyro was the best I've tasted in awhile and the Baba Ganouge had great flavor to it. I highly recommend and will visit again.

Yelp
The food, service and ambience were amazing!! The staff were so friendly and welcoming and even remembered our names from our previous visit. The food was absolutely delicious as well and they had amazing portions!! Can't wait to visit again when we're in the Portland area!

Yelp
Cedo's is AMAZING! Been coming here since they opened!! Honestly, I judge every gyro i have against Cedo's, and none have beaten 'em yet!! SO good!!

Yelp
This place is phenomenal. From the tabbouleh to the falafel to the pita and house-made hot sauce. Best falafel I've had EVER. Perfection.

L. H.

Yelp
I'm always searching for a great falafel and this is it! They were larger than I've seen before but unexpectedly fluffy and light. The grilled veggies were done perfectly (seasoning was simple but tasty). Wish I was closer but worth the drive -- go early as I've seen a "Closed early, sold out of falafel" sign on the door.

Yelp
Cedos has to have the best homemade falafel you can find in Portland. The couple that runs this place is super friendly and you can tell they put all their love into the food that they make. The falafel is crispy, crunchy and has just the right amount of spices and kick to make them fabulous. Today I picked up the 50/50 plate and brought it back home to Corbett, Oregon and had an amazing lunch in the nice spring sunshine. The 50/50 plate has a nice side salad, 2 huge falafels and amazing gyro meat with pickles and hummus. You also get a tzatziki style yogurt sauce, tahini sauce and super bomb hot sauce. I have been to Cedo's numerous times over the last year and the quality of the food is always consistent and yummy. If you are in the area and craving some falafel or gyros I would totally recommend grabbing the goods from this place.
google avatar

Golda D.

Yelp
My husband and I both had gyros sandwiches with no hot sauce. We have eaten here many times and consistently enjoy the food. The couple who run the place are very friendly and always greet us warmly. Parking is always plentiful.

Yelp
THEY ARE TAKE OUT ONLY. We visited on 8/23/22 for lunch and were expecting to dine in but when we got there we saw signs in the window saying to phone in all orders. They have menus taped up in the windows and once you decide what you want you need to call in your order and pick it up at a small window when it's ready. There are a few picnic tables outside with umbrellas which we ate at, but it was quite hot being almost 90 degrees out. There were also quite a few homeless people around the street corner. The food was excellent though. I got the gyros sand which and my boyfriend got the falafel. After his first bite he looked up and said "this is probably the best falafel I've had in my life". We paid 12$ for each and left extremely satisfied. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Credo's is known for the best Gyros you've ever had. They are right. The gyros is a must - make sure you get the hot sauce. Game changer. Grabbed some potatoes (homestyle with seasoning) if you need to add a carb to your bc order. Street parking. Friendly staff. Homemade and reasonably priced. Really tasty. Thank me later.

Yelp
Great COVID option. Call to order, and pick up at their window a few minutes later. This is the best gyro place I've been. Its amazingly good, great gyro size, affordable, and high quality. TIP: They automatically add hot sauce to their gyros, and that's a no from me. I always forget to omit it unless the sales person is 10 steps ahead of me and asks if I want it. Bless these people! Gyros are SO complex. Its so hard to find one with the perfectly seasoned and flavored sauce, the right king of meat texture and flavor, the right kind of pita bread etc etc... Cedo's adds arugula and tomato to their gyro, along w the hot sauce, but thankfully no fries. I hold the salad and have them put the sauce on the side if I'm taking it home for later and it reheats amazingly. It made it all the way home to Seattle and was still delish. I haven't tried their falafel yet but I'm sure they're amazing as well. The only change I would do to the gyro is to add more lemon zest, juice to the tzatziki. When I make it at home I love a little zing in my tzatziki, it adds a lot of flavor with the cucumber.

Heidi B.

Yelp
Not only is the food top notch the owners go above and beyond to make you feel like family. I highly recommend

Yelp
This spot is consistently amazing. Amazing falafels and gyro. Don't skip the hot sauce!

Yelp
Delicious food, courteous & friendly service. Homey ambiance. Will be back to enjoy more.

Yelp
Delicious. We got the combo plate and a falafel gyro. Definitely the best gyro I've ever had. The flavors of each item were so distinct and blended well together!

Yelp
Always good! Lovely owners. The secret ingredient is Love! I really like the Gyros, but is all is good

Yelp
I was doing a training nearby and needed to eat lunch. There did not appear to be a whole lot of options. Cedo's had good Yelp reviews so I rolled the dice. When I received the food it seemed a little pricey. The meal was fantastic and well worth the price. You could tell they use quality ingredients and it was made with authenticity. I will be back here for sure. I had a gyro and a side of hummus. Everything I had was great. It was order by phone and then pick up at the window which is nice considering the state of the world and the plague. Thank you Cedo's.

Yelp
#fatjared say... this is as close to 5 stars as you can get! I hate I can't give it to them! 4.9999 out of 5!! GO HERE!! For those who know my reviews, you know I won't give 5 stars if I have any complaints. 5 stars is perfect, and that's had to get from me! This is a time I hate sticking to it, but I will! This is probably the best Mediterranean food I have had. I forgot to take a pic of the menu, but it was simple and easy. A few choices and they have perfected everything. The husband wife combo who owns it are the sweetest people, the falafel was perfectly cooked, the greens were fresh, the gyro was seasoned well and SUPER tender, and the homemade hot sauce was !!! I have only 1 small complaint, for Mediterranean Baklava is a staple! I LOVE Baklava, and this was not good. It came out in these small cubes which was fine, but it was cold (never had it that way before), chewy, and my piece was overcooked. BUT all that to say if you want some legit from the heart and soul good ole fashioned sweet old people care about your life and feed you right like you're coming over to their house for dinner mediterranean, GO HERE!! You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Excellent gyros, wonderful service, and comfortable ambiance. Thanks to the husband and wife team.

Yelp
I used to come here a lot since 2012, and the gyro was amazing! Their salad and potatoes really good! Also the portions are a lot, and gyro is huge! There service is okay, the lady at the cash register can seem intimidating and a little rude. But other then that it's good. I recently went back in July for lunch, and did notice a difference in flavor. Nothing too bad, but not the same.
google avatar

Cam T.

Yelp
Best falafels in Portland! I've tried a lot of different places looking for a beautifully light, crispy, flavorful falafel and have been disappointed by all but the ones at Cedo's. We like to eat inside by the sunny window, savoring the hummus, salad, pickles, pita, and everything else that comes on the substantial Falafel plate. The owners are friendly and welcoming too!
google avatar

Aaron J.

Yelp
Everytime I eat here I plan to take a picture for a review but always end up scarfing it down to fast! The quality here is amazing and you really can't go wrong...it's a small menu, which I like, so it makes deciding easier...i always get some combo of gyro, rice and hummus, and it's fantastic. I wish there was something on the menu, like a plate that included the rice because it's so good, but for now the side will have to do! Would for sure recommend trying this out if you like a really tasty gyro!
google avatar

Yelp
What a nice experience we had coming here! My husband and I came here for lunch after browsing on Yelp for authentic and affordable middle eastern cuisine. After reading the reviews, we decided to check this place out! I settled for the Combo plate with my choice of 3 appetizers -- hummus, falafel, and Baba Ganouge. The Husby ordered the Cedo Plate with his choice of Falafel served with a salad, hummus, and pita. As we were waiting for our food, I couldn't help but notice how every customer that came and went, were either regulars or friends with the owner. Everyone seemed to leave expressing how grateful they were and how much they enjoyed their food. That's a really good sign that this was a solid place... Finally our orders arrived and I couldn't help but admire the colorful plate in front of me. The tzatziki and hot sauce came on the side, but decided to drizzle it all over my plate. Once I began eating, I understood why people are in love with this place. All the flavors were incredible and I especially loved the crispy falafels and creamy baba ganouge which they sprinkled with pomegranate seeds, adding a very unique but tasty component to the smoky eggplant. Both Husby and I were stuffed and even though we were full, we kept trying to scrape all the hummus off our plate. My expectations were definitely met and I really can't say anything but that it was amazing, I will definitely be back and join all the regulars who frequent here.

Yelp
This is an incredibly affordable option for DELISH gyros and falafel. Super small menu and run by the cutest older couple. Portions are huge. I love it!
google avatar

Charlie T.

Yelp
To me... this is probably one of the hidden places where you can only get a great tasting gyro for a reasonable price, but get one that's big enough to be split in two meals! For just only $8 you can get a supersize gyro and for a couple bucks more add some potatoes on the side. The gyro is packed with great flavors in every bite. It is counter service style where you order in the front and wait for the food to come out. It also appears to be family run(?) All in all...a good place to come for gyro and leave with a full stomach!

Shannon B.

Yelp
Restaurant is very original welcoming and comforting , food very fresh and amazing, customer service was the best smiling faces...good portions and prices!!!
google avatar

Edward L.

Yelp
OH WOW!!! Best gyro in town. Also, and it's a BIG also, one of these can feed two people! The veggies and sauce are so good as well. The meat itself is done so well, and melts in your mouth. The bread is substantial and holds up to all the topping and stays poofy and not soggy. They are currently only doing take out, so be sure to call in your order. Will have to try their other menu items, but why when the gyro is just that GOOD!?
google avatar

Chris T.

Yelp
All I can say is WOW. TOO GOOD. I watched the cook grind the falafel right before me. His wife said the hot sauce is also freshly made. I would venture to say that this is one of THE BEST sandwiches in Portland. I'm only posting this because from the outside, it's a hole in the wall but I really wanted to keep this one a secret! Definitely craving inducing, plus a very sweet couple run it. Pure joy. Thank you, Cedo's, for making my day! YUUUUUUUM!!!
google avatar

Karl R.

Yelp
I removed my previous review and am leaving a freshy: this is the best falafel in Portland. Can't wait to head back.
google avatar

Rolling Along ..

Yelp
This is the best Arabic food I've had in a long time. The combo plate allows you to select three sides, along with a pita and some pickles. The three sides I got (falafel, hummus, foule moudamas) were each very flavorful, and the portion size was large. This place is much better than the other sit down restaurants and the food carts that I've tried.
google avatar

Rita P.

Yelp
Cedo's is absolutely fantastic! Everything tastes extremely fresh and homemade. I would consider their gyros some of the very best in Portland. You can tell they really take their time crafting their product.
google avatar

Sara W.

Yelp
Food phenomenal but the day running the business has a serious stress problem and does not know how to give proper customer service I think they need someone working with customer to allow them to work in the back she was very very rude and disrespectful and frantic and overwhelmed with just a few questions I asked because I have never been before
google avatar

Bob L.

Yelp
Speaking as an east coast member of the tribe, these beautiful human beings make the best food of this type that I or my wife have ever eaten. Thank G-d we've found a New York icon here in Portland.

Chelsea C.

Yelp
Cedos has the best Gyro meat in Portland- hands down. Everything they make is so fresh- you can tell it's all by hand and with lots of love for food. Their sauces are incredible, pita always fresh. They close when they run out of food!! This place is the real deal!!!
google avatar

Dina E.

Yelp
I ordered ahead (stuck in traffic and trying to make a movie). Arrived ten mins later ..food wasn't ready but would be soon. Ok. I got a falafel sandwich. Falafel was fresh and fluffy -- delicious. Tahini was plentiful and yummy, too. Hot sauce was really good. I wonder if they make it? The watermelon hibiscus tea (comes sweet or unsweetened) was mild but tasty. Will def be back to try a combo plate.
google avatar

Cosmo K.

Yelp
Hands down, best gyro in town. Full of flavor, a little spicy, not too much. Happy belly

Olivia S.

Yelp
Food and service are amazing! We got the falafel sandwich, gyro sandwich and Cedo's potatoes. Everything was delicious. We will definitely be going back. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
I heard about this gem from a co worker. I am glad I had a training on this side of town today. Location: right on he corner of MLK, decent area to park or use street parking. When I walked in I felt like I was in NY. The place was clean and small but had an east coast vibe! The smell of incense usually really annoys me so when I first walked in to burning incense I thought I wasn't going to make it. As I stood in line I thought wow the incense actually isn't that bad. Service: I read previous reviews and if I would've went off of those I would've missed out. The service was amazing! Everyone was helpful and they spoke to me as if I was a customer there for years! Much better service than I get at places I've been to on a regular basis!! Food: hands down this is the best Mediterranean food I've ever had! There is nothing else that needs to be said. I will be back! The portions are the right size for the money and I felt great after lunch! I will be back! I called a family member in Atlanta to tell them about this place we have to go to when they visit!
google avatar

Adriane P.

Yelp
SUPER GOOD! My favorite go to for Gyros and Falafel in the PNW. Moved to Colorado a couple years ago after having lived in this neighborhood for several years, but I MISS IT SO MUCH (!) and when I visit Portland- it's always on my list. Cedo's makes their food with SO MUCH discernible respect for their ingredients, culture and LOVE!
google avatar

MJ G.

Yelp
The best gyros in Portland! Additionally, everything else on their menu is delicious. I have been going here for years and they are consistent, friendly and have well-sized portions. Make sure to ask for the spicy sauce if you like to add some kick to your gyro or falafel!
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
Wow!! Great food here! My only problem is leaving. In from out of town and saw great reviews on Yelp. Couldn't decide between falafels or gyro, so opted to try both...got to the falafel first, yery tasty, fresh and on great pita that must have just been baked. I would defineately recommend. I kinda forgot about the gyro until after I finished being delighted with my falafel. Oh, well, I figured I would try a bite. The meat is wonderful, a bit spicy and very tasty. Also, it is huge, check out the picture. So, i figured I would take a break and see how much of this I can finish...i would recommend.
google avatar

William S.

Yelp
Hadn't had Ceedo's in quite a while and wanted a gyro. Asked for a gyro, no onions, light on the sauce. "Ok sauce on the side". No, I said, sauce is fine, just a bit please. (insert long story about how her husband doesn't want to guess what the customer wants). I get the gyro and there's no sauce on it at all. Food is decent, nothing to write home about. I'll stick to Angelina's Greek where the gyros are better and they just give the customer what they want.
google avatar

JP P.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places in the neighborhood, and we get takeout at least every other week. The food is consistently amazing - very fresh even when it's packed into a box for takeout. The hot sauce is phenomenal - I had never had red hot sauce from a Mediterranean place, but now it's my favorite. The owners are genuinely friendly, they try to remember the names of their consistent customers and I selfishly feel good about supporting a local family owned business. Check this place out, no matter what you get you'll be happy
google avatar

Sac B.

Yelp
Yes! Good overall place to eat. Lady behind counter is rude, but i don't mind! As long as she keeps handing over the hummus, we're friends.
google avatar

Cola V.

Yelp
A comfortable little spot that is perfect for take-out or dining in. The menu is simple and offers a selection of platters that include falafels and gyros + soups/salads and sides. I got the 1/2 & 1/2 combo plate of falafels and lamb and came with a side of pita, small fresh salad, sliced tomatoes, and hummus topped with olive oil and chickpeas. Very filling and SO delicious. The lamb was spiced and cooked perfectly, the hummus was delicious and the falafels stole the show - crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside, not too dry, just perfect. They also had a small selection of beer/wine and 2 options of fresh sun tea - I had a watermelon hibiscus and it was awesome. So glad they're down the street, will be back for more take out!
google avatar

BenEats E.

Yelp
Best gyros in town! They are huge and everything is always super fresh. Don't forget to add a side of chili sauce and get a sage tea.
google avatar

Tony T.

Yelp
Gyro was delicious though a bit heavy on the garlic. Workers were great. The place was definitely COVID friendly. They set up a window in the doorway (literally). It's a bit hard to hear with busy MLK right behind you but I definitely felt safe from a COVID standpoint. I'd definitely go back soon!
