Best Kid-Friendly Restaurants in Dallas | Eater Dallas

"Some restaurants aren’t really relaxed enough for kids. Celebration is not one of those places. For it’s over a half-century in business in Dallas, the no-frills dining room has welcomed local families. Enjoy Southern favorites — the chicken fried steak smothered in gravy is noteworthy — in a family-friendly atmosphere. The kids menu features gluten-free spaghetti, fried catfish, a grilled cheese on Texas toast with fresh fruit, and more." - Courtney E. Smith

Wow. I haven’t had a $20 meal that good in a long time. Very very good. The place has a homey feel, very attentive and friendly waitstaff. I got the trout and spouse got the chicken fried chicken. My fish was great and the tartar sauce was the best I’d ever tasted. We got spaghetti squash, mashed potatoes, and green beans/carrots family style sides. All good but we got seconds of the squash. Finished off with the chocolate pie. Yum!

I love it here ♥️ the food is amazing! It’s honestly super tasty. I love the whole house comfort and the service is spectacular. My brother in law brought the whole family over to this spot in August and now my husband and I have been coming almost every weekend. I always order the catfish plate and let me tell you that it’s the best fried catfish I ever had. My daughter loves their rosemary chicken it’s very juicy and flavorful

Google
Highly recommend! Love, love, love the separate rooms! Made it feel very intimate/cozy. We tried their tortilla soup (very delicious), pear salad (not a fan of blue cheese), garden salad (their croutons are yummy!) chicken fried chicken (tender chicken with a yummy crispy batter), chicken fried steak (very good), trout (a little too buttery for me), red fish (delicious), mashed potatoes (like any other restaurant mash), macaroni and cheese (bland, needs more cheese/seasoning), vegetable medley (good), berry cobbler (good), coconut cream pie (if you are a coconut lover like me, you’ll love this) and banana pudding (it was a no for me). Will definitely return!

Google
A home style kitchen with shareable plates and local ingredients 🥕 🍖 Pros: - accommodating staff - quiet interior - good spacing between tables - cozy and warm - affordable prices - locally sourced ingredients - fresh flavors and changing menu - the best dinner rolls on the planet Cons: - feels like someone’s house, not in a good way - no decor at all. Zero. - very cramped parking lot with bad accessibility - flavors are overtly rich and over complex - very dark inside, only harsh overhead lighting - not set up for sound dampening, very loud Overall I’m glad I came so I could try the chicken, but once was enough. I will definitely not be coming back to try more of the menu or recommending this place to anyone.

Google
Classic southern food, locally sourced from farm to table! The food is very fresh, flavorful, and delicious. Not to mention the prices are amazing for the food, especially since the family-style sides are endless! For a table of 4, our bill was under $100. We walked in at 7 pm on a Saturday night and were seated immediately. Great experience!

Celebration has hosted many a family dinner for four generations in our family over the years, most recently for a weeknight dinner with me and my parents. Our server Jackson was attentive, knowledgeable, and just a generally pleasant person. The iced tea was very fresh and my glass was never less than half full, with more ice added on every refill. All of the breads are delicious, my mom prefers the jalapeno cornbread, my favorite are the blueberry muffins, and my dad prefers the more traditional white bread biscuit/rolls. It’s nice that we can each get more of what we want! My dad and I ordered from the daily specials menu, the pork chop with cherry mostarda and southwest chicken. My husband ordered the pot roast and my mom the chicken fried steak. We ordered spinach, fried okra, and mashed potatoes for our sides. The sides are served family style, but you can have seconds on these, and even change sides if you like. We were too full, as this was plenty of food for the four of us on the first course! The atmosphere is charming with remnants of nostalgia in the pictures and wall hangings, and the little enclaves, or smaller dining rooms, really make it feel like you’re eating dinner at home, just out with other people. We’ll be back for sure, thank you for your consistent service and delicious locally sourced menu!

Google
This Dallas institution continues to deliver delicious food in a fun, family-friendly atmosphere. We love the rotating vegetable options and desserts. Service is always great, even when they are hit with a rush. Be sure to get there early if you want to be sat right away - they get busy quick.

Yelp
Came here for a company event and I loved the chicken fried steak OMG. I can't recall what allergen was in the salad but I asked the server to please not give me any and he brought out a plate just for me with none of the nut that it came with. Service was pretty incredible for how large the party was. The jalapeno corn bread was to die for and their desserts were all very well liked among the group. Would love to come back if ever in the area just for that chicken fried steak and its gravy!

Yelp
The food at Celebration is fantastic. Home cooking that never disappoints. Our last visit found the service a bit lacking. Halotus asked for a refill on his beverage 7 times!!! The server also had trouble recalling who ordered what. Other than the service issues, which are not typical, the meal was terrific. The jalapeño gravy on the chicken fried steak is a must!!!
google avatar

John J.

Yelp
Family style comfort food. Service was exceptional. I had the chicken fried steak and it was OK. A bit tough but OK flavor. I opted for the jalapeño cream gravy. I'm not sure if that meant they just added two jalapeños on top because it didn't taste much different. It was a group dinner and so we had all the sides. The homemade blueberry cobbler was average at best and the crust tasted burnt and not very good frankly. Not sure I would return.

Yelp
Everyone needs to go here at least once. Comfort foot at it's finest: chicken friend steak, chicken fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, you get the picture. Parking can get a little hectic, but there is some behind the market building. Service was friendly and it feels like a country restaurant...you know like grandma's house.
google avatar

Emily N.

Yelp
As I pulled into Celebration's parking lot and caught a glimpse of the establishment, I just knew that dinner was going to be scrumptious today. The interior was very cozy and it felt as though I was stepping into someone's grandma's home (in a good way). Their complimentary bread, more specifically, the banana nut muffin was so good and my personal favorite amongst the others. I started with fruit but there are other options such as soup or salad. As my main entree, I opted for the rosemary roasted chicken and I was pleasantly impressed with how juicy and well seasoned it was. You are able to to choose 3 different vegetables. I recommend the fried okra, mashed potatoes, and roasted zucchini. The fried okra was very crispy and paired well with ranch. The mashed potatoes were creamy and had some skin in it. The zucchini had a nice parmesan crust to it which added pizazz Don't forget to order a slice of chocolate pie to end the night!!!! Overall, food and service was good and I'll be coming back foshore.

Yelp
This restaurant definitely has a lot of character. It's super cozy and welcoming ambiance. There are rooms appropriate for any occasion and number in your party. The food is very fresh and the portions are abundant. I would recommend the grilled catfish. It's the bulkiest catfish I've seen and perfectly cooked taste-wise and visually. The servers were friendly and attentive. Great for friends, family and work.

Yelp
This restaurant seems to be a north Dallas legend. It has been under operation for many decades. They have been serving farm to table before it became a brunch trend. A gem tucked away near the Dallas Love Field airport (literally 7 minutes away). This is the place to fulfill your southern comfort food cravings. The interior of the restaurant makes you feel like you're eating at someone's home. You also get your own private booth (and they also have private sections for large parties) to have a private and more intimate experience. The way their menu works is you pick an entree, and each of them comes with 3 side dishes. The exciting thing is the side dishes includes items such as gumbo, beef soup, mixed vegetables, mashed potatoes, and more! It's barely a side dishes it feels like you're getting 3 appetizers on the side. I got the chicken fried steak with gumbo, zucchini squash mix, and the green bean mushroom mix. Did I mention they start you with complimentary variety of breads? In the basket , you can expect corn bread, butter rolls, and muffins. I was impressed with everything I had except the chicken fried steak. (Unfortunately). The beef was overcooked and very dry and tough. It also tasted like it has been sitting out for awhile and not fresh anymore. The breading was delicious though and I liked the jalapeño gravy. Even though the chicken fried steak was a let down, everything else amazed me I would still come back but try a different entree. If you're ever anywhere near Dallas Love Field, don't forget to stop here for classic southern comfort food. There are also plenty of parking!

Yelp
We discovered Celebrations restaurant years ago, but are rediscovering as of late. The food and atmosphere are always wonderful with superb service. The only thing I would change is when we arrive( usually on Sunday mornings at opening) they always ask us if we can be done in time for larger parties arriving later. I don't care about the big parties. I am standing in front of you now. Other than that, I would recommend!

Patrick M.

Yelp
Always fabulous. My favorite salad. Fresh food, great ambience. I moved away from Dallas and was afraid when I came back to the restaurant it would be different, but it was great as I remember!

Yelp
Stopped here on our way home from Dallas Love. Was craving down home fried chicken. Nothing was outstanding, most of it was average. The service, however, was fantastic tho and the vibe is kinda homey and cozy.

Yelp
Party of 6, Tuesday @ 11:45am (day after Christmas). Freshly baked bread tray (mixture of jalapeño cornbread, blueberry muffins & dinner rolls) was outstanding. Unsweet tea wasn't over-steeped. Meal of turkey/dressing w/fresh cranberries was delicious. Sides of homemade (not powdered) mashed potatoes and Lima beans (yes, you read correctly -- Lima beans!) seasoned with/ham were mind-blowing. Dessert? Peach/blueberry cobbler w/ice cream. The service was prompt, efficient, friendly, and accurate. The ambiance was very comfortable and well-suited to this type (home-cooking/soul food) of cuisine. Great sense of privacy, esp for large(r) parties, as the dining area is divided into smaller rooms. Apparently, they renovated a house but kept up most of the walls. Overall, one of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time, and I eat out a LOT! Get there as fast as you can!

Yelp
Came here because we had a long layover in Dallas and we had family pick us up for dinner. We had the best meal to fill our bellies for our flight. The menu had something for everyone. I chose the Chicken Fried Steak with Jalapeño Gravy. That gravy was everything. Such a perfect combo, and I'm so glad it was on the menu. The sides are served family style and are all delicious. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu here. You also get a bread basket filled with assorted breads (cornbread, muffins, and rolls). The employees were great. Drinks constantly filled. Love all the little separate rooms for dining. Great meal! Would come back. Thank you!

Yelp
It was my first time going here, I absolutely loved every single part of it! The food was delicious, fresh, and its all farm to table so healthier too! It is so rustic and romantic and moody inside which I love, great place to connect! My partner and I had GEORGIE, ask for his section, he was so kind, so attentive, and quick on everything, we barely had to ask for anything! I loved it so much, definitely added to the date night list!
google avatar

Jeanie N.

Yelp
Came here for a large group outing! The food was great! I had the rosemary salmon and I loved all the sides that came with it. It's family style which is fine by me, I got to indulge in extra veggies. The gumbo was nice and spicy! The starter salad was great but my absolute favorite has to be the banana pudding!! This restaurant is way larger than it looks on the outside! This place is old school, it has not been updated in the interior...maybe ever but it adds to the charm of it all. This place is great for a large party with a private section!
google avatar

Yelp
I came in here with zero expectations and walked so pleasantly surprised! I could not believe this place has been around for over 40 years! My mom found this place and remembered how great it was from people that had been there .It was also a perfect place to stop right before or after coming from Dallas Love Field airport. Everything was delicious to a T. Farm to table. I will definitely come back here. The Rosemary salmon was delicious! They also do catering as well or curbside pickup if you don't feel like cooking. One of the best places I've been to that tastes fresh and has excellent service as well.

Yelp
Was greeted promptly by hostess then seated in booth as requested. Beverages and salads brought out immediately. I had Chicken Florentine and my buddy had Chicken Fried Steak. Both outstanding. Price was fair relative to most overpriced restaurants in town and service was the best it could have been. Will be back for sure.

Yelp
Great Country Food.. Love the options available on menu.. Bar area feels homey.. Must be great

Yelp
The food and service were AMAZING! We had a party of 14. It took a few minutes to get seated, but everything was amazing from that point on. The food was excellent! The creamy cucumber salad dressing was great! I had the chicken fried steak and it was excellent. The best part about our experience was our server, Jackson! He was absolutely fantastic! Jackson kept our drinks full, and ensured we had everything we needed. Jackson's attentiveness was beyond expectations. If you ever visit this restaurant, be sure to ask for Jackson to be your server. Thank you so much, Jackson. We appreciated you!

Yelp
Fantastic food. Great home style meals. Fast service. I got the walnut chicken and we shared the okra, squash and mashed potatoes. So so good!

Marilyn M.

Yelp
I flew to visit relatives. They suggested coming to this establishment. They did indicate they had not been here in many many years and we're hoping the food was just as great as before. The only disappointment was that they ran out of peach cobbler by the time I got to order it. Highly suggest you order dessert first! that is my only negative comment I have about this establishment. The staff was excellent, the food was excellent, and am planning for a return trip! Thank you for your hospitality!

Peter H.

Yelp
Have loved this restaurant over the years - but was shocked to see the puny servings. I honestly thought it was a joke and asked the waiter

B G.

Yelp
I'm a long time Celebration fan, but the day has finally come that I won't be back. The dinner service has slowly gone downhill and has been inconsistent for the last year or so. The last couple times, the food and service has just been bad. Multiple tries. My biggest complaint is the seasoning of the food. It's under-seasoned as if it's now catering to people that can't eat salt. The pork chop was Flavorless and tough. Overcooked. No seasoning. Not enough flavor. Boring. A pork chop on a plate. The sides. Oh man, the sides. Again, the sides lack seasoning. Bland. Boring. The green beans. Cold. Tasteless. Salt? Shallots?Pepper? Garlic? Butter? Nowhere to be seen. Mac and Cheese is almost always mush. You can't let sides sit in a warming tray forever. Gotta keep making fresh. Light herb chicken. Tasteless and dry every time. Parmesan crusted chicken, tasteless and dry. Sometimes undercooked and tough. Chicken fried chicken. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. When it's bad, it's tough and not crispy. The meatloaf. Tough. Dry. Overworked so it's rubbery. Constantly get end pieces. The salad is still outstanding and the mashed potatoes are pretty consistent, but even those occasionally lack seasoning and creaminess as well. Too watery at times. I've been to celebration literally over 100 times and I'm qualified to say the experience is lacking top to bottom. The dinner service chefs are not tasting the food and/or they've lost their passion. You guys need to train seasoning and tasting food. If they don't know how much salt to use by feel, start measuring it. You can get a decent meal if you do one of the specials because someone more experienced is obviously making those, but you don't always have something you want on a special. Interior carpet needs to be replaced. It doesn't necessarily need to be fancy, but clean would be nice. Servers need to be trained on service and efficiency.
google avatar

Josh P.

Yelp
Celebration is a nice homey place. They have delicious comfort food. I really enjoy their breads that they bring out for you to enjoy it's an assortment. Service is great. So if your looking for a nice warm place to enjoy homey style food come check them out.
google avatar

Jennifer J.

Yelp
Dined here with family and enjoyed our meal! Food is always great at Celebration! Servers were great, we could tell the hostess was a little short in her responses to questions but luckily not much interaction was had with her besides seating us. The catfish and walnut crusted chicken were delicious! With a group of 7, I'd only suggest large bowls of sides. Even though they're unlimited, waiting for them to be replaced was not ideal, especially since you only got 2-3 small servings out of each bowl. However, the sides were all good! Dessert was also yummy!

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
I understand Celebration is unique and has a large decades long following, but if I am paying almost $20 for an entree, I should be able to eat the sides I want, and not be limited to the 3 the table, in this case 8 adults, all agree to share. Sometimes there is no agreement. The one side I could eat was very tasty. Also the salad lettuce for the green salad is cut in long ribbons vs a chop, which makes it more difficult to eat.

M W.

Yelp
The food her was very horrible no taste at all and the brown gravy is pot roast sauce wow. and I wouldn't have put a star but this app make you.

Jeanne H.

Yelp
We love the food and service here! It's one of our favorite restaurants in Dallas. We also enjoyed the privacy of the tables being far apart. I highly recommend Celebration for lunch or dinner.
google avatar

Rosie P.

Yelp
Awesome season and farm to table concept but it is a bit of a hit or miss on food. The sides are served family style so make sure you all agree on your options as the table will share. My favorite dish so far has been the Jamaican jerk chicken and they do have some great salad dressings.
google avatar

Eveline S.

Yelp
Love this place! Good food good service, one of the best American food in town Unique place and nice decoration
google avatar

Joanna M.

Yelp
I came here for a small family reunion dinner. I loved that all the food was healthy and didn't make me feel awful after. The restaurant is in a cute nook and is very homey. I ordered the pork chop which was juicy and delicious. My cousin ordered the meat loaf and I was jealous because it looked so good. The sides were just enough for a table of 6. Our server was very kind and helpful. I think this is a lovely spot, great food and nice staff.
google avatar

Kim N.

Yelp
homestyle cooking at its finest! sides change & daily specials. muffins and bread as appetizers - good portions and friendly service!
google avatar

Julio R.

Yelp
This place holds a lot of people and has a market across the parking lot. Farm to market dining is all you need to know about this place. It's like Babe's in the sense of ordering your protein and the sides are family style and can be refilled!!! I love that style restaurant but even with this concept they still have quite an extensive menu. Don't worry they have alcoholic beverages as well. Wine, Beer, and I believe spirits as well. The chicken and rice soup was very nice, tasted fresh with simple seasoning that completes the fresh ingredients. I definitely will go back and need to go back. I wanted to try so many items on the menu but it gives me a reason to make my way back. Great place to go with family, and I imagine their brunch is great as well. Well I gotta go now, bye bye then!

Laura T.

Yelp
I have been coming here for over 30 years. It's my favorite restaurant in Dallas. The food is always fresh and delicious. I usually order the chicken fried chicken, but everything is wonderful. If you are hungry, you can get a second entree for most of the entrees for no additional charge. Dinner is served family style. I highly recommend ordering the salad with the cucumber dressing for your first course. The dressing doesn't really taste like cucumber, yet it is delicious! Also, make sure you pick mashed potatoes as one of your veggies choices. The dinner also comes with a basket of different types of breads--all of them are so good! My boys love the walnut crusted chicken and the pot roast is tender and flavorful. Make sure to come hungry. This farm to table food cannot be beat. So, so, so good.

Sarah L.

Yelp
Went here for my mom's birthday and the waitress was very helpful and friendly. She took care of me and all my guest well. She checked on us more than once to make sure that we were all happy. The food is really good. I had the veggie lasagna with salad and broccoli and fried okra, mashed potatoes .
google avatar

Rick C.

Yelp
It's as good as it ever was. Chicken fried steak and chicken are classic. They are very take out friendly.
google avatar

Austin B.

Yelp
"Traditional American/Southern" food. I'm not the biggest fan of this kind of cuisine but went with friends who are born raised southern boys and they dig it. I find this kind of food to typically be pretty basic and humble, and for better or worse Celebration is very true to this food. I thought everything needed better or different seasoning, some oomph to elevate it. I had the pot roast which tasted like every pot roast I've had at a traditional American/southern restaurant. Unfortunately half of it was overcooked and tough. Didn't care for the sides (green beans black eyed peas, mac n cheese), again faithful renditions that were okay. Great outdoor patio. Inside decor is very old and dated. Service was good and plenty of parking. My take: if you want down the center southern, you will like this. If you aren't a fan, this likely ain't gonna turn you into one.
google avatar

Cheryl R.

Yelp
This is a very intimate and special restaurant. Since it is in a home atmosphere and sides are served family-style, you may feel like you are partaking of a holiday family feast. I have also attended a private dinner (work event) and we were given our own room. It was a perfect setting for such a gathering.

Martin C.

Yelp
Excellent food & and service, been a customer for 40 years! Fresh veggies, great cocktails
google avatar

Maggie L.

Yelp
had a pretty good lunch. Chicken fried chicken had a nice crust and a good flavor. Always forget their mashed potatoes. Have skin included. Do not like that. Nice crisp salad with good thousand island dressing. Mediocre fried okra.
google avatar

Lesli C.

Yelp
Excellent food and amazing waitress! I would eat here every day. Great price and a ton of tasty food! Lots of options too! Bread basket....
google avatar

Yelp
Good consistency throughout the 30+ years I have visited, good service, great atmosphere and fulfilling food
google avatar

Nathan R.

Yelp
Overall we love the place. Only drawback is their mashed potatoes. Basically water and potatoes. No butter no cream no flavor. If they stepped that up a notch that would be great!
google avatar

Hannah A.

Yelp
I went in today with my 5 year old and my aunt. Herbert was our server and he was wonderful! He greeted immediately after we were sat. He let us order a kids salmon dish instead of the chicken. I had the trout with almonds and it was excellent! The cucumber dressing with the house salad was also very wonderful, especially for a hot summer day!

Yelp
I've eaten here several times and its always great! If you're looking for farm to table, home cooked meals, this is your place. Growing up in Texas and now living 1500 miles away this is a great go to place for comfort food. All the vegetables are prepared fresh daily. On my last visit (two days ago) I ordered the vegetable plate. About 12 options to choose from - I selected a salad, butternut squash soup, black eyed peas and fried okra. Plenty of love on a plate and bowl. All were deliciously flavored. My dad got the meatloaf, which is one of his favorites with the mushroom gravy. He had plenty to take home for dinner. Oh, and every table gets a bread basket. They have assorted breads and muffins. From cornbread, to pumpkin bread to rolls. All delicious. Looking forward to my next visit to Dallas, because I'm sure to stop back in for another great meal.

Brandon B.

Yelp
Chicken fried steak was tough and had no flavor on meat or breading. The fried chicken is good though.

Debi P.

Yelp
Always good food and service- like eating at home! Salads are fresh and breads served at the beginning are wonderful!
google avatar

Samuel L.

Yelp
Pro tip. If you are hungry go ahead and order the second serving at the time of your order.
google avatar

Yelp
Great place, food and service! Always have the freshest food around and they treat it with respect. Family likes that you can request an additional entree for just $3.50.

Yelp
So, the description of the restaurant here is "American, Traditional" Perfectly described. The space alone is a solid star, a lovely patio that does its best with its busy-street locale. I imagine when those wisteria are blooming, seats are impossible to come by. Service was professional and quick. The food is main and three sides ( in most cases ), which gives you flexibility but can result in some lack of cohesiveness in your meal. Then again, its your own darn fault. The food is solid, its, well, "American, Traditional". There will be no za'atar, wagyu tomahawks or ethereal foams. There will be fried okra and banana pudding and meatloaf. Everything was fresh and well prepared and very reasonable prices. So, if you are in the area and looking for "American, Traditional", you cannot go wrong here, really. I personally wouldn't think of it as a destination restaurant someplace you'd drive across town for the experience or food. So a solid three stars.

Marty G.

Yelp
Great food very family friendly. Private room made it extra special. Been going here since the early 80's
