"A San Francisco–born microbrewery that has become a repeated destination for local beer aficionados; the SoMa brewery closed in late 2022, but pints can still be found at the Cellarmaker-linked House of Pizza in Bernal Heights, and the former Howard Street space is now home to a new iteration of the historic San Francisco brewery Enterprise." - Dianne de Guzman
"Love beer, or pretending you love beer because you’re meeting up with someone who homebrews? Cellarmaker House of Pizza is the spot for you. The lowkey Bernal Heights beer bar has a lengthy list of beers on tap and a bar where you can cozy up and brush knees with your date. And because you’re very interesting and likable, “grabbing a drink” will probably transition into dinner. So grab one of Cellarmaker’s excellent Detroit-style pies, available whole or by the slice." - julia chen 1, lani conway, patrick wong
"The Detroit-style pizza coming out of this Bernal Heights brewery is worth the trip alone—the chunky pies with a caramelized cheese crust make for ideal Friday night sustenance. But presumably, you’re also here for beer. The selection has something for everyone, including tons of in-house brews, guest beers from breweries all over California, and, for the resident beer hater in the group, soda and house wine. Since this is Bernal Heights, kids are welcome, so feel free to camp out for a few hours with your whole family." - ricky rodriguez, julia chen 1
"When too much time has passed since your old upstairs neighbor texted “let’s catch up,” it’s time to finally meet for a weeknight dinner. Pizza and beer should do the trick. This Bernal Heights spot focuses on Detroit-style pies, served in a sweatpants-welcome space. Get the one with pepperoni spilling off the top and crispy cheese edges, wash it down with a pilsner, and swap landlord horror stories." - julia chen 1
"For pizzas with sponge-like crusts, head to Cellarmaker House of Pizza. Like Square Pie Guys and Joyride, the laidback Bernal Heights brewery focuses on Detroit-style pies, which you can order by the slice. Our move is to grab a seat at the long bar, order a pilsner, and strike up a conversation with whomever’s sitting next to us. But any of the high tops in the dining room will get the job done if you come with friends and order a big spread of food that requires more table space. The pepperoni, with slightly chunky tomato sauce, golden-brown cheese walls, and thick pepperoni cups spilling off the top, is the best pie on the menu—we never leave here without at least a slice." - julia chen 1, lani conway
