The 17 Best Sinaloan Restaurants in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"Come here for an early cena (supper) of antojitos sinaloenses like asado, meat and potatoes covered in fresh shredded lettuce, carrots, pickled red onions, Mexican cream, and a sprinkling of dry, salty cheese. Tacos dorados, or deep fried tacos, come dressed the same, with a choice of meat. For a unique take on a Mexican classic, try the enchiladas del suelo, a trio of open-faced enchiladas filled with beans and chorizo. And don’t miss owner Bernabé Martinez’s daily specials, such as sopa de frijol con hueso, a hearty bean stew with a meaty, pork shank bone, for a robust taste of Culiacán." - Bill Esparza

Been coming here for years then I stopped, because I moved far but this past week I was in town and decided to stop by. Food is delicious as always but now they extend the menu. Must try this place.

This is my favorite place to get Carne en Su Jugo. Home cooking. Freshly made tortillas. Really bomb salsas. Cash only.

I recently moved to South Gate and this place was recommended by the locals. I came for breakfast and the food is fresh and taste is delicious. The service was excellent the waitress was kind and attentive. We had questions and she answered them all. The ambiance is like your eating with family. There's artwork that shows their Latin pride and sport fans. My boyfriend got the torta de jamón which is a fresh bread with ham, avocado, lettuce, tomato, sour cream and onion. He was obsessed. I got the enchiladas de res (pork) and the beans and rice was tasty like if I was eating at my moms house. I recommend this place to come and eat authentic Sinaloa Mexican food in the Los Angeles county area.

Food was good! I definitely recommend getting the chilaquiles, I like how it has its own unique flavor. The waitress was very nice to us as well.

I just loved the home atmosphere of this "little place". It felt as if i was eating at my friend's house. I ordered breakfast: chilorio with eggs and beans. And it was delicious!!! They also have *bolillo con mantequilla🤤, upon request, i did not see it on the menu. The price is resanoble. The only thing is that it is very small, so it fills up fast on Sundays! I would recomend to go early morning on weekends. 😀

I liked the machaca I had, but my husband got a Pozole and it was super salty, plus it was filled 3/4 of the bowl. They brought our drinks and the waitress only gave my husband a straw, didn't offer me one. When I got up to get one myself She said, " oh I thought you didn't want one." ( really She didn't even ask) She offered salsa to my husband which he declined. 5 minutes later my food finally came and she didn't offer me salsa, when I asked for some she said, "oh the one I offered you and you didn't want" 🤔she never brought me utinsels either. Then she brought the bill and only one candy....Hello were we suppose to split the mint. Plus they entire meal me had to hear her life story she was telling another client. Maybe that's why she was so distracted. Oh plus I forget ...When I was ordering, I asked a question and she didn't pay attention since she was busy checking her phone because it rang. Obviously the phone was more important than the client. I was really hoping to make this my favorite place , but which her service not sure we want to go back. Too bad a waitress has to scare of clients for these small restaurant which should have more clients. Maybe a different waitress would have given us a different experience, who knows 😩🤔

Yelp

Yelp
Food is so good, authentic sinaloense flavor It really reminds me of eating in Sinaloa! Always great & fast service.

Yelp
Southgate place try old school cardos (soups) that take me back to grandmas and reminds me of how tasty caldos can be. Try it out, you will be glad.

Yelp
I'm Mexican and never had Sinaloese food and didn't recognize some of the items on the menu so I got the traditional breakfast not knowing what the flavors were, and it turned out to be a culmination of divinity. The salsa is mixed with the meat and elote are well balanced with a jab to your tongue.

Santiago M.

Yelp

Yelp
If you want amazing Mexican food. This is the place. I came here with a group and of ten and we all enjoyed every dish.

Yelp
This place is under new management. Nothing of what it used to be. The food tasted the same but the services is really bad, they take forever to bring your food even if there's no other people waiting. I've been coming here for years but it's just not the same. I'm not coming back.

Yelp
We love coming here really homemade food love the menudo and my fiancé likes the machaca
google avatar

Isela G.

Yelp
The only reason reason I'm giving them a 5 star is because their menudo deserves it. All the other food I have tired is basic.
google avatar

Yelp
Comida Sinaloense. Too bad is only too go. Hopefully not for long. The food is good. Mejor que la de tu mama. The machaca con verdura is the best. My baby loves to eat frijoles puercos con tortillas echas a mano, and drink chocomil.

Yelp
Food was great... place is clean and cool. But the waitress needs to remember she is works in a restaurant and with people, so please smile and be nice to people! Remember if you don't like your job find something else. We go to have a nice pleasant time not to bother you and look at your unwelcoming face. Plenty of places to go eat. La Comida esta sabrosa! El lugar limpio. Pero la mesera tiene una cara como que le molesta su trabajo. Porfavor sea mas contenta y agradable. Con la mala cara no da ganas de regresar. Dueño porfavor aregle este problema.

Yelp
I'm drooling just thinking about this place... Cenaduria Gumacus is a small Mexican restaurant in the city of South Gate. If you drive too fast you just might pass it. It's located on State between Firestone and Ardmore. When I visit any Mexican restaurant, I always hope I don't end up consuming a gut bomb. You know, when you eat something and it tastes great but then your stomach bloats because of all it's fiber and fried-ness and then eventually MORE happens...You know what I mean! Hence: GUT BOMB. This place is gut bomb free! Food was amazingly fresh and delicious. I walked away feeling satisfied and sated. I had the traditional Mexican fare of rice and beans, a shrimp taco and a potato taco. My friend frequents this place. Her and her family are from Sinaloa. If you're not familiar with Mexico and it's states, Sinaloa is a state on the western coast of Mexico. It is home to Mazatlan. Every state in Mexico has their distinct way of doing things, and according to my friend, friend potato tacos are just one of their specialties. Funny thing is, my mom made potato tacos the same way and she's not from Sinaloa. They tasted just as good as my moms and that says A LOT coming from me. I tried my friend's chilaquiles and they burned a new hole in my tongue. Just kidding! seriously, they were spicy. I don't do spicy. Consider that a fair warning to those of you who can't handle the heat like me! I will definitely visit this restaurant again and if you're looking for real, genuine, Mexican food consider this it!

Yelp
ALTHOUGH ! The ONLY downfall of this service or should I say one of the waitresses that works there is very unprofessional of her to be disgusted by our personal order or preference. You walk in and she doesn't greet you and her attitude is very noticeable. She keeps rolling her eyes as she's taking the order and just walks away and mumbling things about tables. VERY STRONG PERSONALITY ! Other than that Totally recommend the food ! The Lady cook is Amazing! Love her deverian de Aprender! Anonymous Joe and Cabby

Yelp
I love this place. Prices are great. Street parking. Small location couple booths feels like your eating in a restaurant in Sinaloa. Walked in on Sunday around 1 pm and there was no wait. We were greeted by the host who informed us we can sit where ever. We quickly ordered and our food came out fast as well. I ordered machaca w/ frijoles puercos and my bf ordered carne en su jugo. The food was great loved it. Can't wait to be back to try something else in the menu.

Yelp
The food was delicious, the torta de cochinita pibil was pretty authentic and delicious. Everything I tasted was good and it's as close to Sinaloa style as it gets (obviously the food in Sinaloa is better) but for being in LA it's pretty good. The location itself is tiny and it has an old dirty diner feeling to it. It's not a nice looking place, and the parking is limited. Again it feels like a small "Cenaduria" in Mexico so in that sense it works. There was only one waitress working and she did manage to piss me off a few times, her customer service needs some serious work. I even heard her yell at the kitchen ladies because they messed up on one of my orders. I had read reviews prior to my visit and there was a lot of mention of this rude waitress and I was really close to telling her about her terrible reputation but then I noticed that she was running around like a chicken with her head cut off, cleaning all the tables, taking everyone's orders, serving all the food, it hit me! If I was the only waitress and I had to do all that work alone, I would be upset as well. Needless to say if I return and she happens to have help and she continues to be rude, that may be enough to keep me away. For now all is well and I will continue to eat at this delicious restaurant.

Yelp
The chilaquiles have a nice crunch with a subtle tomato sauce that ties in well with the queso fresco and red onion. The two eggs were nicely cooked to a nice over medium. Chilaquiles are served only with beans which was nice, but I thought they were just ok. A little runny and bland. I enjoyed the chilaquiles and would return to try other items. Prices are very reasonable at $5.99. Service is straight forward, nothing fancy.

Marlene S.

Yelp
Like some ppl mentioned the food it's delicious!!! It's so yummy , that's why I keep coming back. But the service is horrible , you wait for almost 1 hr to get serviced especially if it's the gentleman doing the orders, he never writes anything down and always forgets everything , if you're in a hurry don't bother coming here, you're not getting out on time. When you have one of the female waitresses, she is soo rude. But the food is good and feels homemade . As for the diner, very very little and dirty looking. I might try to phone in an order and ask for it to go next time. I've been here too many times alrd and just about had enough of the long waiting times and bad customer service.

Yelp
Great Mexican food restaurant. Authentic and very nice people working Will definitely come back.

Yelp
The food here is so good but it's not enough for me to go anymore! Why because they have this older lady like in her late 40s as a waitress and only her and let me tell you she has such a bad vibe. I will go and try to ignore her but it's like she's miserable so she wants everybody to be miserable with her. She only has a good attitude with men sadly!! I hope they do something about this because they are losing costumers and it's unfair because their food is actually pretty goof

Lorena P.

Yelp
Food is good but pozole & menudo is nasty and old The waitress in the morning sucks But the service with the waitress in the after noon is excellent .
google avatar

Don B.

Yelp
The food is flavorless. The beans were uninspired and the mole tasted like it came from doña maria. The tortillas de harina are guerrero store bought. The worst part is the bitchy ass waitress that acts like she has a stick up her ass. She should not be in customer service with that attitude.
google avatar

Cesar R.

Yelp
The motherfu*king beans are infused with pork? Handmade corn tortillas? They serve spicy shredded pork? Cold ass tecates? Need I say more? I don't.....but I will. CHILORIO http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/cenaduria-gumacus-south-gate?select=rSytvG6l1lWH1VoFPnTElw#_Fi7DfgEeUSU4wur6lyH5g Perfectly cooked and marinated pieces of shredded pork with onions and peppers. Toss this into one of their warm handmade corn tortillas and slather that bad boy with their pork infused beans.....jubilation. Also got some chicken enchiladas for the wife to go.... CHICKEN ENCHILADA PLATE http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/cenaduria-gumacus-south-gate?select=rSytvG6l1lWH1VoFPnTElw#RJlm8PrcHDWEEmwnBrQHaQ It wasn't too pretty, but the wife ate it all up. I had a bite, these were just standard in my opinion. Ahem... Did I mention the motherfu*king beans are cooked in PORK FAT!?!?!

Yelp
Traditional, at-home-style Mexican kitchen serving up all your favorites! My favorite are the Chilaquiles! I usually order mine with eggs sunny side up and they come with house-made refried beans and Mexican rice. I love my Chilaquiles crispy and at Gumacus, they get it right every time! The salsa smothered over them is a tasty tomato based red salsa with a smoky, peppery finish. They sprinkle it with savory queso cotija and shreds of red onion! Yum! They have a great selection of drinks as well, including Sangria and they make they're own "Licuados," or milk base fruit smoothies! They're assortment of sweets is gret too, Cocadas, Capirotada and super bomb Choco-Flan! The owner, Paola is from Sinloa and as a true and proud Sinaloanse she offers up some of my favorite Mexican sea food dishes; Agua Chile for you raw seafood lovers and camarones a la diablo, a savory dish of cooked shrimp in a tasty, spicy tomato sauce! Viva Sinaloa! Go Paola!

Yelp
The food is great, I had the Chilorio with egg and pork beans super yummy, my fiance had scrambled egss with chilaquiles and my future mother in law had 2 sopes and a side of chilaquiles. My only problem was our server was not very nice we asked her what a plate was and she would make a face, I asked for water but it never came no big deal i didnt complaint.

Robert C.

Yelp
If you miss food from Sinaloa and don't know of any other spot then this will do but! It ain't Sinaloense food something is missing I don't know what but yeah it's not bad food
google avatar

Viviana D.

Yelp
The menudo rojo was really good! They also make tortillas a mano so that's a plus. Really had a good lunch on Sunday and I highly recommend this place.

Roger M.

Yelp
Great food definitely going back again Steak ranchero was perfect Marlin taquito was different but good !
google avatar

Celeste E.

Yelp
The food is really good. I have tried tacos dorados de res , frigoles puercos, sopes, The plates are very economical and delicious. You may want to add a chocomil. Service it's ok not very friendly, but the food makes up for it.

Tanny N.

Yelp
I love all their food to be honest but the waitress has a really bad attitude!!! and they only have her as a waitress... she makes me feel so uncomfortable that I cannot enjoy my food so I just stopped going.

Yelp
Went do dinner with a +1. We ordered the following: camarones en aguachile, camarones a la diabla, taco de camaron estilo ensenada, orden de capirotada, a sidral, and a diet coke. Total: 30 dollars. Gumacus is hidden in this street block. You have to be actively searching for it or else you will miss it as it is squeezed in between store-fronts that look like homes. The complimentary chips are great. The salsa they provide has a definite punch to it. Camarones en aguachile: prepared correctly, plentiful, and good presentation. Not over-seasoned like other restaurants tend to incorrectly do. Camarones a la diabla: comes with a side salad, spanish rice, and three hand-made tortillas. Executed well. The sauce on the camarones is a little thick, mild, and with some sweet aftertaste. This is camarones a la diabla in top form. Taco de camaron estilo ensenada: I worried that they would over-batter and fry the shrimp to death or only give me one shrimp and a ton of lettuce. I was surprised by their lightly battered, three huge shrimp in the large hand-made tortilla. Dressing was lightly done over shredded cabbage and diced tomatoes. Capirotada: warm, with a good amount of nuts and raisins. Sizable portion that could be shared by two people easily. Extremely great service. A gem in between nondescript buildings. Definitely coming back.

Yelp
Wow! Was driving by and wanted to check out a Mexican spot. Amazing! Felt like I was at a family members house with great food!
google avatar

Yelp
Food was very authentic from Sinaloa. If you are looking for sinaloense flavor this is the place to come. My mother and I had tacos dorados and we both loved the flavor and trust me my mother is not easy to please. Great choice when craving sinaloense flavor.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been enjoying the food at this place for almost 10 yrs. I still remember the first time I saw the Cenaduria Sinaloense Gumacus sign, me eyes lit up and transported me to my mother's hometown in Sinaloa. The authentic sinaloense style of cooking resonates at Gumacus! I have to say my favorite dish is Tacos Dorados de Papa. It's simple yet mouth watering. Sopes, tostadas, barbacoa, frijoles puercos you name it, they have it Gumacus. If you grew up eating traditional Comida Sinaloense at home, like I did, you now that the food here reminds you of mom and grandmas cooking.
google avatar

Ruth G.

Yelp
Their enchiladas de queso are amazing. They use queso cotija inside which I love. Their barbacoa (according to my husband) was also delicious. I wouldn't recommend the sopa de res though, it was a little bland. Oh, and their horchata tastes homeade, so it's good.
google avatar

Rodrigo C.

Yelp
Real good home style cooking, the gorditas, los frijoles puercos, and menudo are all bomb..
google avatar

Jessica G.

Yelp
I love this place! Its the closest thing to my moms sinaloense food. Ive taken a few people and they all seem to love it. If you enjoy some good frijoles puercos, camarones a la diabla, tacos de papa and a cold mexican coke...this is the place!

Steve F.

Yelp
This place is amazing home cooked meals and for the price you can't beat that. Last time I went I ordered their sopes they are the best small and flavorful and the consome they provide on the side is to die for
google avatar

Yelp
Straight Forward good food - cheap beer - nice place
