Abigail greeted me with a warm smile and let me know there was a short wait as they were cleaning tables. As I waited, I overheard the bartender thanking a customer for going in and how he made her day. I didn't get a name, but she was always ready to jump in to help with a smile. Jesse ensured I had everything I needed and recommended an alternative with such an enthusiastic attitude. It truly was the friendliest service. I tried the taco board, and it was absolutely delicious!! Perfect lunch portion. I definitely recommend!!

The best queso birria tacos I've ever had. The horchata creme brulee is now my favorite dessert, and the mango tajin lemonade is amazing. The male bartender with glasses is kind and makes great suggestions. This is now one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the state.

Great stop on Pearl St. Beer is super cold and the tacos were delicious. Definitely a place to spend an afternoon in Boulder

Add this to your list of places to eat in Colorado (they have one of the best Bloody Mary's) ... Let me introduce you to Centro Mexican Kitchen in Boulder, Colorado. This fun & lively restaurant on Pearl Street creates fresh and festive Mexican cuisine for brunch, lunch, happy hour, & dinner. Centro serves Brunch & Brunch Happy Hour on Saturday & Sunday from 10am to 12pm. We arrived at Centro and were seated on their outdoor patio - it was lovely with plenty of shade. The staff were attentive and radiated positivity. General Manager, Melena and Server, Molly ensured we had everything we needed while we dined. New Brunch Happy Hour menu items include things like the 'Over the Top Bloody' (serves 1-2 people) for $30. This was hands down the biggest Bloody Mary I have ever seen, and it tasted as good as it looked. It was garnished to the hilt - I'm talking grilled shrimp topped with edible gold, several strips of bacon, vegetables, & flowers. The Bloody Mary was tangy, spicy, and satisfying, making it a brunch favorite. The Horchata Toast Crunch was made with Breckenridge Vodka, horchata, chai liqueur, whipped cream, & cinnamon crunch. We loved the creativity on this brunch cocktail and who doesn’t like cinnamon toast crunch? The Tomato Gazpacho was made with cucumber, red pepper, fresno chile, green onion, olive oil, & sourdough croutons. The Centro Caesar Salad was made with romaine, heirloom cherry tomatoes, grana padano cheese, popped lentils, toasted pepitas, & crispy chickpeas. We loved this Caesar Salad - there was great texture variation and a good ratio of Caesar dressing to ingredients. The Skirt Steak Taco Board was served with fresh corn tortillas, green rice, cabbage pico slaw, Mexican street corn, & spicy macha salsa. The skirt steak was juicy, meaty and went well with the warm tortillas and cool slaw. The Mexican street corn was seasoned perfectly, and I loved the cotija cheese & spices on it. The Queso Benedict was made with two poached eggs, tavern ham, sourdough toast, smothered with queso. The Chilaquiles - $14 on Brunch Happy Hour - were made with tortilla chips, suiza sauce, refried beans, cotija cheese, & fried sunny side up egg. The French Toast Flight - $9 on Brunch Happy Hour - was made with strawberry, horchata, and cinnamon apple French toast. We then had the option to 'Make it toasty!' for an additional $20 which paired matching shots with each of the French toast flavors.

Modern and elevated Mexican with focus on flavors. First their menu has vegan and vegetarian markings but is error prone so don’t go by it and ask the waiter. Fre vegan starters and two or so vegan mains. We had the black bean hummus tostada, a flavor bomb. I was getting layers of heat from Chili oil, spices, sweetness of apple and coolness of cucumber and bitterness of greens all working to deliver amazing flavor profile. The taco platter has vegan option and the flavors are really good.

We have always enjoyed Centro, as long time Boulderites. We understand prices have risen throughout the restaurant industry. HOWEVER, $8 dollars, yes $8 dollars for a small hot chocolate, sans whipped cream or marshmallows, or even a great tasting chocolate, is out of this world ridiculous! I mean, it’s the same price as a beer! Have you lost your minds??!! You really need to adjust that price. Come ON!

Sarah A was the most incredible server I have had the pleasure of being served by in a long time. We had a group of 14 before the Buff game and she was awesome. She was friendly, efficient and incredibly attentive to our large table. The food was great and it was a great experience for our groups first time at Centro. Centro should value Sarah A and reward her appropriately for handling large crowds on any day but especially Buff game days!

Google
Good mexican spot for Boulder with everything you would look for. Stopped early afternoon and had items off the brunch menu. The group had pozole Verde (green) highly recommend this soup with pork. Hash with carnitas a birria burrito and a ground beef burger. Every time was good with large potatoes. A flight of drinks to go with the meal. Gave it 4 stars due to the bothersome flies.

Yelp
In all the years that I have been going to Centro, I had never been to weekend brunch before. I've had dinner the most, some lunches as well as Happy Hour. Recently I heard people talking about the brunch and given that the summer tourist season was over, we decided to try it when not as crazy busy as summer. It was cool and windy and still not empty but moderately occupied with birthday brunch nearby as well as random groups of customers. A little chilly and though walls on our favorite summer patio in place, we chose a cheerful indoor booth. The seating coverings looked brand new and the window onto Pearl was also nice. We both ordered the chilaquiles plate and it was a bit larger than we expected. In addition to the Chilaquilles, there was guac, crema, refried beans and a sunny side fried egg. Though I dove right in before my picture (sorry you can't see the whole thing) I did remember before it was too late to show you most. We had some hot drinks on a crispy cool day which was nice too. The price was right as they have a brunch happy hour menu if you order before noon. The staff, as always, was efficient and friendly. We will be back on a warmer day, sit outside, and try out another menu item.

Yelp
We used to come here often and always enjoyed the whole experience: atmosphere, food, great service so when looking for a place to have our monthly dinner with friends I made a reservation for Centro. As always we were greeted with a warm welcome and friendly smile. We got seated right away and our server asked us what we wanted to drink. I usually get the coin margarita and opted for the house margarita this time. It was delicious. For appetizers we had the cauliflower and the veggie tostada and both were flavorful and fresh. Nicely balanced with spice. For dinner, 2 of us ordered the blackened shrimp that came with chorizo albóndigas and tomatillo and potatoes in a delicious sauce that was perfectly spicy and green tasting. However, there were only 5 small shrimp and one half of a chorizo meatball. It all tasted great but it was a little skimpy on the meat. We had potatoes and tomatillos to take home for breakfast the next day. The Birria burrito was flavorful and filled with meat! The au jus added great flavor and wasn't too salty. I didn't taste the plant based dish but my friend loved it. We will keep coming back though I may not order the shrimp again.

Yelp
The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and the service was good. Weekends they serve brunch until 3. I don't love brunch, but they also had tacos and non-egg dishes on the brunch menu. We were party of 8, and I think we all found the food unremarkable. I had the skirt steak taco board. It was overcooked, and bland. The corn (elote) was delicious. I feel like elote and a margarita is all I need in the future.

Greg M.

Yelp
Food is not entirely the issue. The nickel-and-dime add-on fees ($3 for a small side of salsa!!!) and exceptionally poorly trained wait staff, however, are the issue. Started with house-made guacamole and chips ($11). Chips tasted fresh but are bland like packing material. Salt is cheap (unless you ask for it and Centro will attempt to charge ya). The guacamole itself has beautiful presentation but desperately needs some acid/citrus and a bit of salsa to bring some depth of flavor. Biria Dip w/ Consume ($14): Good value and flavor, both. There is a melted cheese sear on the outside, which is great for a "french dip" style sandwich to hold the consume but mine was slightly burnt which detracted from the otherwise rich flavors. Fish Taco ($19): Fish is well battered and cooked perfectly. It better be when Centro is part of the restaurant group that brought Denver-metro Jax and Tavern. The dish comes with elote corn which was tasty, a tasty slaw and a small pan of Mexican rice along with a chili oil ramekin and aoli. The rice overpowers the delicate fish, so skip it altogether. Fortunately, there are three generous "sticks" of fish, so on taco #2, rice omitted, the dish comes together. So for food alone on this visit, 3.5 stars. Lop off another 1.5 for the service. There is a simple rule in food hospitality, REMOVE EMPTY PLATES ASAP. Certainly NEVER bring the check without clearing the "regret" from the persons paying. I would not comment on this if it were only our table. However, I looked around at six other tables that sat down near the same time, each with varying servers and ALL of the tables received the same lazy service. Centro, you are already in a dangerous location next door to BarTaco. BarTaco is a consistent product that is currently putting Centro to shame. I'm just saying, if you are going to piss on somebody else's fence and claim to be better, you need to execute on that bravado.

Yelp
Wow wow wow. I loved this place so much! Between great patio seating, wonderful service and amazing food, I will for sure be back here soon. My pals and I came here after a long hike nearby, and absolutely demolished a delicious brunch. I had the breakfast enchiladas, my friends had the tacos. They also had some yummy aquas frescas for NA drinkers! Parking in this area can be a bear, so just make sure to give yourself some extra time!

Bria G.

Yelp
New menu items : Absolutely will be back for the Macha blackened shrimp and not pictured the Spring vegetable Mole 10/10 experience and flavor of food is immaculate . The shrimp meal is so wholesome and comforting with the potatoes and beans and chorizo like wow chefs kiss. Recommend 100% service is great and on top of it! As well the new Ranch Water is yummy and refreshing .

Taylor C.

Yelp
Yum! This place has such a great atmosphere and a large menu to choose. The margaritas have many flavors and easy to find something for everyone. The tacos are done a bit unique. They come as a platter so you get to build your own similar to fajitas. I tried the shrimp habanero mango tacos and they were very flavorful. It comes with rice and street corn. The street corn is awesome! Our server was very nice but we did feel we had to wait a bit longer than normal for her to come around. Overall it was a good dining experience!

Brianna C.

Yelp
Wow what a great experience today. We went to centro for the first time and I was happy to say I was not disappointed. The horchata was great and almost chocolate taste to it. The Baja fish tacos were amazing as well. Well seasoned but the rice was terrible it was very bland and I'm not sure what the flavoring was. The salsa trio was by far my favorite part. I really enjoyed the apricot salsa the most. 5/5 will be back

Kenny H.

Yelp
This may be one of the worst places we have ever eaten. We have been sicks for 2 days. My son had a hamburger that smelled fishy. He's been violently ill for 24 hrs. The guacamole was easily the worst I have ever had. Throwing a random chickpea on top doesn't make it fancy. The Queso was flavorless and was almost all cornstarch and grainy. We will never be back.

Peyton R.

Yelp
Such a good spot for food and drinks! Fresh apps and even better tacos. Love this spot for summer dinner -- staff was super friendly too!

Anthony W.

Yelp
The food was pretty ok, and the service was fine. The place is nice and lively, and the margaritas were pretty good! My problem is that everything was SOO expensive and the portions were a bit small :/ so if you are a large person like me, maybe this won't be your favorite place. But this place is always packed and lively so it's quite fun to go with friends!

Kazli S.

Yelp
Great margarita options, great salsa selections, great, cool ambiance . The apricot habanero salsa is unlike any salsa I've had before. The margarita flight is a must. Happy hour 3-5

Jonathan H.

Yelp
Best steak I've had at a Mexican restaurant. Excellent sauce, fun presentation, and huge portions. The Mezcal Margarita, had a balanced smoky flavor, not overpowering complimented by a bit of grapefruit. We'll executed and balanced. The steak and shrimp enchiladas were good, but my friend envied my steak. For American style Mexican food in a mid-tier budget range, this is hard to beat. From a value perspective, the steak was an excellent value, but the enchiladas, which were the same price, were overpriced.

Beckett M.

Yelp
So good ate the skirt steak tacos and I loved it. Num num num this app makes me add 85 characters smh

Mariah A.

Yelp
We had the queso and potato wedges for a quick snack. I am a big margarita fan and I asked the waiter if the margs were house made and good. She said yes. Got a strawberry marg and it was horrible. I did not take more than two sips and left it on the table. The waiter never asked how it was or anything. Let me pay for it and never asked what was wrong with it. Really disappointed in the$12 margarita. I recommend rio or the garage sale vintage for a good marg. The queso was good but the potato wedges came with 5 wedges. Would not come back

Richard W.

Yelp
Found this place while looking for another...rainy night in Boulder was perfect combination for some carnitas tacos.

Lauren B.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my night at Centro! We enjoyed the salsa taster/trio and nachos as an appetizer. The salsas were all tasty and the portion of nachos was large enough to split between 4-5 people. As an entree, I liked the steak tacos. Everything was flavorful and fresh. Service was also great! A food runner spilled some sauce on our table but it was dealt with very professionally, and they were super apologetic. Our server was also kind and had great recommendations for us. Bonus tip: sit outside for the best vibes!

Cori W.

Yelp
Went here while town with some colleagues. We tried to go here the previous night but they had a private party. The evening was a bit rainy, so no outdoor seating, which was a bummer. Inside atmosphere was fun and nicely decorated. I had a blood orange margarita and the fish tacos. I can never pass those up. Margarita was fantastic. Colleagues both got Mexican beer, which they said was good. Fish tacos came on a giant board and was entirely too much food. They were delicious and I highly recommend them.

Dooney G.

Yelp
Everything was delicious. We had fish tacos and chicken enchiladas. Side of guacamole. They leave water pitchers on the table which makes that issue easy. Nice interior and location. I liked the table chips too.

Candi R.

Yelp
Main motivation was a good margarita... lol but since it was also lunch time , we ordered lunch too. Chips and salsa were good and ate the whole basket. Started off with a peach margarita and at the recommendation of the server, a tamarind margarita. Both were delicious. Ordered the chicken enchilada and the salmon chop salad. Salad was crips and fresh and the sauce on the enchilada was excellent. Had an additional margarita with the mezcal and subbed the grapefruit for peach. Was good and smokey.... Have to like mezcal to enjoy this one. Fun place with family of friends. Nice covered and heated outdoor area was nice too

Gina K.

Yelp
After a quick hike near Boulder we opted to stop in downtown Boulder for brunch. Due to UC parents weekend the town was packed. But Centro had plenty of seating when we arrived so, we opted to try it. No regrets!!! I had the breakfast enchiladas with green chilies and chorizo (which had a little kick). The enchiladas just the right amount and spice. Being that it was brunch, it was nice to have a few greens served on the side. My husband got the breakfast tacos that came out as a build your own board, which we were both surprised to find. He said they were pretty good (not the best he has had) but the potatoes were Unbelievable!!! Order a side of potatoes that were cooked to perfects with a crispy outside and soft inside. They were cooked with onions and peppers in oil or butter which gave them a flavor that needed to condiments to help the taste like standard breakfast potatoes.

Brian N.

Yelp
Came here late on a Saturday for just margaritas and dessert. I must say, I am fairly disappointed in the "Tres Leches Cafe". It's definitely not the traditional tres leches cake. The fillings itself were somewhat dry and difficult to eat. The crust is definitely very dry and requires some force to get through it with a fork.

Gabe T.

Yelp
Food, yes. Nice spice level. Good portions, value. Service - god, no. Bad bartenders. Manager (Zach) took care of my $3 beer for me waiting 15 min for water or a second drink but charged me for my $15 Paloma. Such a nice vibe spoiled by incompetent staff

David S.

Yelp
Weak. Boulder's "Mexican " food scene is not good. This spot makes it worse. Way over priced for the quality, surprisingly this place has been here for years.

Peter M.

Yelp
Went as a small group for dinner. Good, safe bet. Everyone had a good meal. Couple of clunkers, but nothing too bad. Got the Mango Habernero Shrimp tacos. Festival Corn side was great. Tacos were good, but should have asked for flour tortillas. The corn ones were out of a bag, and no great shakes. Drink selection, not so much joy here. The hibiscus cider came in a can and tasted of it. They comp'd me and gave me a pinot nior on the house. (-hard pass on the cider btw)

Gabrielle B.

Yelp
Centro serves brunch until 2:30 on weekends which I wasn't expecting but was excited to find out. I got there right around 2:25 but my server was nice enough to give us the option for breakfast or lunch. They had some vegetarian options and are happy to make some modifications. I had the el admiral, which is kind of the basic breakfast: toast, potatoes, eggs, meat. I got avocado instead of meat and was surprised by how exotic it was! There was salsa, fingerling potatoes with some. Chilis and great overall flavor and quality of the food. We also got chips and salsa to start and the chips were amazing! The portion of salsa was a bit small though. Great Mexican breakfast!

Lisa H.

Yelp
We went for drinks and apps and had a great time. One recommendation - don't bring food before drinks - you will sell MORE DRINKS this way. I work in hospitality and saw the flaw - your bar was working too slow and you could have sold us double drinks if you had gotten drinks out before the apps... I usually will NOT order food w drinks but we were really hungry. Tell your servers and bar tenders 1- don't put on food orders till drinks are on the table 2 -bar tenders and managers - get drinks on the table so people order more drinks!

Ashley B.

Yelp
YUM. I got the soup and a side of rice and beans and was STUFFED. The chips and salsa at the beginning were so good I almost ruined my appetite. I highly suggest the food and sitting in the outdoor area.

Dena K.

Yelp
We stopped in on our way from Estes Park to the airport, so I'm basing this review on only one visit, but I was very impressed with the food and service (thank you to our server, Lauren)! I had the chicken enchiladas with red sauce from the lunch menu and they were so delicious! The red sauce was so rich and complex and I was in heaven with the first bite. We also ordered the salsa sampler and all of those were fresh and delicious--my husband especially liked the apricot habanero salsa. It is located in the downtown Boulder area which is such a nice walkable area with plenty of restaurants and shopping.

Adam M.

Yelp
Centro was good. You know in Boulder you're not going to get those dive Mexican joints that are great. Centro goes the complete opposite way and strives for a fancy upscale type of Mexican. The queso was okay, the Chicken Enchiladas were really tasty, the green rice was interesting and something different. Overall the food was good and I'd come back if I'm in the mood for fancy Mexican. I loved the outdoor sitting area as well. Overall a nice little Boulder spot for lunch/dinner!

TressBy H.

Yelp
We ordered The Hot and Spicy cucumber, Caesar salad, and Grilled chicken Thigh Asado. Everything tasted absolutely good, the chicken plate came with this smoky hot sauce that just topped everything!! The only negative thing I would have to say was that my tortillas were a lbit cold but since everything tasted SO good I didn't even cared.

Sheila S.

Yelp
My son and I enjoyed the lunch menu here. Market salad and taco&beyond...delicious. Best queso ever!! Service and ambiance were amazing!!

Robert N.

Yelp
Centro is a clear case of focusing on presentation over good preparation. The food looks good, but tastes terrible. Every dish served to our party was nothing better than edible. The service was not much better and at the price Centro is charging you might as well find a decent restaurant that is worth paying the inflated Boulder prices. I had a country fried steak with chorizo country gravy and the "steak" was fried to the tenderness of a hockey puck and had about as much flavor as boiled shoe leather. The eggs were so heavily salted they were nearly inedible. I was served a coke that was so light it looked like dirty water, and when I brought it to the bartender's attention the only option I was given was to order a bottle of Mexican coke at an added cost to me. (Because changing the syrup bag would have been too hard with the sparsely filled restaurant clearly taking little of his time. TL:DR - Don't bother with Centro, expensive, bad food

Ken H.

Yelp
Loved this place. Seems that their beer supplier is behind but the food and service were top shelf. My family has dietary restrictions and they were more than happy to accommodate. We ordered a salad and three taco boards. All the taco choices were delicious. The fish tacos were my favorite- very light and flakey. Great place and I would dine again next time I'm in Boulder

Dave C.

Yelp
I enjoyed the food here. A bit basic, but there is passion. Our server, Jack, was especially attentive and really made the experience all the better. I super enjoyed the taco board and the chicken tortilla soup.

Sara M.

Yelp
A great spot in Boulder, CO! The queso and nachos were delicious! I liked how they had an indoor and outdoor bar top. The service was very quick and friendly! Highly recommend!

Gabby A.

Yelp
I LOVE CENTRO!!! I've been a few times now with friends and with my family. Everyone I bring here always loves their food and the ambiance. I went last night close to closing (felt terrible about it) and the staff were incredibly kind, service was super fast, & the food was just as great as always. I usually get the Grilled Chicken Taco Board (so yummy & great size) but this time I tried the Birria Burrito. Absolutely insane 10/10!!! Always get the chips & Guacamole - so yummy & the guacamole is perfectly seasoned + I love the pico de gallo on top. I love Centro & highly recommend trying it out!

Veronique C.

Yelp
Centro never disappoints, delivering solid cocktails, great food with a friendly service in a pleasant atmosphere whether on the patio or inside. The coin margarita is not sweet, which I like, but my favorite is the passion marg just a little spicy with the right balance of sweetness (the jalapeno basil one is also very good). I highly recommend the salsa sampler with homemade chips and I especially love the apricot habanero, could eat it with a spoon! The Carne Asada is very good with big pieces of meat and to end the meal, the Tres Leches is spectacular!

Kathryn O.

Yelp
The good: the food is fabulous. I had the Burria burrito. The meat inside is cooked perfectly, so soft and flavorful. The vegetables were crisp and had a delightful touch of citrus. It comes with stopping of consommé that is inspired. The rice was great too. My husband liked his salmon salad, and the salsa is fresh and crisp. However, the service was painfully slow. I ordered a side of street corn I never received, and I couldn't ask because the server never came back. We didn't get drink refills either. It took forever to get the check and we had to wander around the restaurant to track him down to pay. Good as the food is, we won't be back.

Ja M.

Yelp
Everything was nice the only thing bad I have to say is our waiter Ashley D was a really bad waiter she was doing drugs and she wasn't present for most of our lunch

Amy B.

Yelp
Great vibes and gas food:) our waitress was adorbs and super nice, and the service was 10/10.

Panno J.

Yelp
Oh my, have lived here for over 4 years and never tried this place. Colorado has a lot of good Mexican food, so don't blame myself! We got lucky and got a table that just got cancelled in the outdoor seating facing Pearl street. Darn it the Master Blaster wasn't performing... because this would be the best seat to see him perform. Dinner & a show :) Had the friendliest server and we ordered below per his recommendation: 1) Mexican Hot toddy 2) queso with chorizo verde (appetizer) 3) Pork Al pastor tacos 4) goat milk tres leches Everything was pretty Epic! From the Mexican hot toddy with a subtle chocolate taste, to the perfectly moist goat tres leches which btw wasn't gamy at all like you would think goat milk would taste. Highly recommend this place for good Mexican food & fun vibes on Pearl street. Their the tacos boards are a safe bet if you are unsure on what to order. It came with this amazing unique corn cob ... it's a must try and hard to describe!

Daniel E.

Yelp
Centro Mexican Kitchen is one of my favorite places to eat in Boulder County, as it is a terrific mix of quality menu items, a unique food experience, great location, and exceptional customer service. It all starts with General Manager Bobby Mitchell, who could not be a more positive and pleasant representative of the restaurant. Kind, caring, and professional, this place reflects his high standards. I love their indoor/outdoor options, and consider them for lunch with their fun items served in a lunchbox. Their salsas and guacamole are incredible. This place really is darn good.

Kim S.

Yelp
GROSS. I ordered the steak taco board and as soon as it was set in front of me, I could smell the steak was bad. Rancid. The steak and shrimp enchiladas and the kids chicken taquitos were also gross. The more we ate the worse it was. If you're thinking about coming here, just take your money and set it on fire instead. Woof. The service was also terrible and the restaurant was not busy. Food, service and ambiance are only checked because it wouldn't let me uncheck them.

Ale T.

Yelp
If you want to feel your best self even while eating some dope food, go here and ask for Malena. I am sure the other servers are just as awesome but she took what could've been a normal dinner to a whole other level. In addition to great service, the food was good! Also, when they were out of certain foods, they communicated that and also gave us some guac and chips on the house. If I could be Malena's friend & have Centro's queso & beef salad weekly, I would be a happy human.

Julie B.

Yelp
Didn't have our reservation though OpenTable had it? Very mediocre server, no personality, got forgotten (group of 7) Basically had not soda options except the bottled Coke and Mex. drinks. Came back to tell us didn't have two of the sodas we ordered??? Odd flavor in salsa flight (habanero awful, not just hot but strange flavor) Margarita marginal, not a great flavor and chuck full of ice. Beautiful mural, nice dishware but missing the essence of good food/service

Bruce W.

Yelp
Their menu is very overpriced. Overall quality of food is 3rd rate. Dishes tend to be over-spiced. Cheese dip is pretty good. You'd be better off at the two other Mexican restaurants within walking distance

Sherri G.

Yelp
The food was delicious and our waitress was very friendly and patient with us, as we met friends we hadn't seen in awhile. We would definitely recommend this restaurant.
