I wish id had known the California Burrito was the size of a newborn baby!! I went hungry and the California Burrito was HUGE!! I don't think I even conquered half of it. Had I not gone crazy on the chips and salsa I'd have been able to eat more. The Burrito was good with a great mix of stuff in it, not too much of one over the other. I had the Al Pastor in mine and it was very good flavorful. Definitely wanna go back here again and again. For four 4 pm on a Saturday it was already really busy by the time we left there was a wait to get in. Ruben our server was an awesome guy.

Mrs. HB and I wanted something for dinner located somewhere on E. Sunshine, so we stopped in at Cesar's Old Mexico. The wait was not too bad (20 minutes), considering the parking lot was packed. I think that was a direct result of them being VERY well staffed. And Ruben, our waiter, was great. The food was tasty and hot. And the portion sizes were impressive! The table next to us ordered the California Burrito. It was HUGE! The ONLY knock on Cesar's is that it is loud, I mean really loud. In my opinion it's no one's fault. The staff and customers are just having a good time. I think it's just the way the building is built. If you are old enough to remember when Nick, Ruel, and Ned the band played there when it was McSalty's (after they moved from the Battlefield location), you'll understand. So, in closing, don't go to Cesar's if loud is not your thing. If you don't mind a "energetic vibe", give them a shot.

All around great Mexican food! The parking is a little tight but the environment is fun! Very eclectic with a huge bar. We arrived around 5:30 and got a seat at the empty bar. Chips and salsa were served and Drinks were ordered within a minute or two of sitting down. The food was out within 10-15 minutes and piping hot. We had the tropico fajitas and they were a hit! Chunks of pineapple, large shrimp, chicken and beef! My wife and I split it - the entree was around $25. For both of us with drinks was around $50 and that was with splitting the fajitas. I loved that they had their own beer which was tasty. The waitress was nice and super attentive. We’d love to come back and try more dishes!

Service was great, food was very good! Would definitely recommend this restaurant!

Google
I absolutely loved my food. Had the chicken fajitas. I did not think that I would find another place that I liked the fajitas and this place did a great job. The service is great!! They were so fast and friendly. I didn't have to even wait that long for my food. I was shocked on how quick they had the food out to our table. The restaurant is small but cozy and colorful. My husband loved every bit of his food as well. Thank you for the great experience and I will be going back. 🙂

Google
Food was delicious, nice flavor and authentic Mexican vibes. Tortilla chips were fresh and the salsa was good. However, prices are a bit on the higher side which may not align with the casual diner out on a lunch date. If you're willing to spend a bit more for tasty food, it's worth a visit!

Google
Wow, recommended this place by a friend and man was it worth it! The place was fully packed and I don't think it's just because it's a big city. The wait time was long but that just shows how good it is, the waiters are very friendly and we barely had to wait to get our food, despite being roughly 60 people inside. The salsa was OK but the queso was amazing, their coca-cola seemed better than usual. Loved their shrimp tacos.

Google
Caesar's Old Mexico is our go to place in Springfield. It’s easily the best Mexican restaurant in the area. The service is always quick and excellent. We also had them cater our rehearsal dinner, and our guests couldn’t stop talking about how good it was. They were very detailed leading up to it and delivered above and beyond our expectations.

Yelp
Hands down this is the best restaurant in town! We have been going to Cesar's ever since they had their smaller restaurant and the quality of service and food has always been the same. This is the perfect place to go for dinner and is kid friendly. I highly recommend trying the pupusas and the tequila lime chicken. Random note- since they are so amazing be prepared for a bit of a wait and a louder restaurant because they are always packed.

Yelp
This place can have some very good dishes....bit others can miss a little too. Here's a few thoughts: - Chips: Not bad. - Salsa: Pretty good stuff. - Guac: Creamy texture and real good tasting. - Street tacos: Not too good. Beef was stringy and chewy. The pork carnitas were not too flavorful and starting to get fairly dry pork. - Garlic shrimp: Had a good taste, but for $19...sure need to use a far better tasting shrimp. - Steak Elrancho: The steak was cooked great with great char. However and again, need a far better quality of steak...quite gristle-e and way chewy. Sauce on steak was very good. . NOTE: This place is smaller and loud as heck. I mean LOUD. Concrete floor, metal ceiling and hard surface walls....all surfaces bare. Gee, is it loud! So, why do it give it even 4 stars? I really like the owner for starters. And, the place has been better than this, in the past. So, I factor that in...

Yelp
I've finally been able to say I've tried Cesar's Old Mexico. Every time I've come before, the wait was outrageous (45 mins at one point). This time, 10-15 minutes. I opted for a chili relleno, an enchilada, and a Chimichamga. Also chips and queso. To say I devoured it was an understatement. I get why people come here all the time. Everything cooked to perfection, delicious flavors. The salsa has a smoky flavor to it, distinct and different from other places in town and I loved it! Getting our food was somewhat confusing, hence the 4 star review. Our waitress was not the person who brought out the food, so I was very confused when another person came out and asked if I ordered the enchiladas, and I said no that wasn't my food (when it actually was) because I ordered one enchilada, one chili relleno and one chimichanga. So the original waitress came back out and seemed frustrated and went and got the food back and brought it to us. I don't know, it wasn't the most pleasant of experiences and the last thing I wanted to do was eat someone else's food or return food that wasn't mine. But we got our food and ate it all. Ambiance was cute. Stereotypical Mexican restaurant decor. I think for the service factor alone (almost TOO busy to be enjoyable), I'm not sure if I'll be back or not. But the food by far is one of THE Best places in town. Hands down!

Yelp
Not what I was expecting from Mexican food as a Texan. I didnt like the chips and salsa, the taquito were not what i would call taquitos. My kids quesadilla was not a quesadilla. It was just a soft taco with cheese. It wasn't grilled on the outside. Wasn't terrible just didn't have great flavor and not what I'm used to. Pupulsa was very good.

Yelp
Great food for a reasonable price. Beer was a little pricey. It's a very happening place with a nice atmosphere. We were sat in the back room and it was very loud. Definitely feels like a party. It was a good experience overall! Next time I will probably ask to sit in the main dining area so I don't have to yell at my wife the whole dinner. On the other hand, if you and your date are prone to yelling at each other, just request the back room and nobody will think anything of it...

Yelp
This place gets busy any day. Come early if you do not want to wait for 30-40 mins especially weekend night. Best Mexican restaurant ambiance we ever had. Servings are big. We also love their margaritas. Fast service too!
google avatar

Yelp
Food was good. Three of us ate and it was one of the best Mexican we've had in Springfield. It was loud in bar/restaurant. We didn't have best waitress. I think she was new

Yelp
I finally made it to their new location and it was so cute. Its like being in a fancy dome and eating delicious food. We got the shrimp cocktail, always the best here. My uncle got the steak fajitas and his wife got some spicy seafood combo grilling. We all share the food and couldn't finish it. Their potion is huge and super yummy. Highly recommended.

Yelp
We were seated promptly, 2 people, and our server arrived with chips and salsa, small bowls, and silverware. She took our beverage order (2 margaritas, on strawberry and 1 lime and 2 waters) and brought them back promptly. Our meal requests were for the same food item, chicken chimichanga dinner (so with rice, refried beans, guacamole, pico, sour cream and cheese. The meals were brought before we finished the chips and we were warned about the hot plates, which were extremely hot. At one point, early in eating, I was afraid that I had dropped some food on my shirt because I felt a very warm spot on my skin, but when I looked at the shirt it was clean. The heat was reaching me from the plate a few inches away. The food was warm and delicious. My margarita was good, but it tasted like it had a lot of alcohol, and burned my mouth in spite of the strawberry. I was glad I followed my wife's example and ordered a glass of water. Our server checked on us regularly without hovering over us. My wife felt like the atmosphere was noisy, but it was obviously a young crowd that was there and there were a couple of larger groups that tend to be noisy. Overall, definitely recommend Cesar's for a good, reasonably priced meal.

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch on a Saturday. The place was packed and we had a short wait. The restaurant has a fun, vibrant vibe and was quite noisy, but we didn't mind. Chips and salsa were brought immediately and were very good. I ordered the sopusa (a Mexican style Salvadoran Papusa). It was very tasty with lots of meat. My husband and daughter had various tacos, which were also generous on the meat. Everything was great with excellent prices. Service was a little slow, but they were extremely busy. Overall, a very good experience and recommended.

Yelp
The vibe of Cesar's is one of the main draws. It is a smaller establishment but fun. All of the servers are friendly and provide good service. It have very specific tastes in Mexican cuisine (it has to be similar to SoCal) and Old Cesar's gets pretty close. The food is tasty and reasonably priced. If you are looking for a more traditional Mexican meal ( NOT smothered in white cheese sauce), I would recommend giving them a try.

Brian T.

Yelp
Another solid experience at Springfield's best Mexican restaurant. Food, service, selection...can't beat it.

Yelp
I can't say enough about how Awesomely delicious every item I've had has be prepared, presented, with a polite, friendly atmosphere and service!!

Tracy I.

Yelp
The food was very tasty and large portions. None of us could finish our plates. I had the stack nachos with shredded chicken and my husband had a shrimp quesadilla that was brimming with shrimp. No scrimping here! The staff was super friendly snd fast and the decor very festive.

Yelp
Omg. Enchiladas with green sauce out of this world!! Coming back for sure to try the authentic taco!

Yelp
Came around 7pm on a Thursday with my husband and there was about a 20 minute wait to get a table. Apparently that's pretty common and a good sign if they are always that busy no matter the day. We got margaritas from the bar and sat outside while we waited. They were strong drinks - top shelf quality! It's a very lively place and as others have mentioned it's LOUD inside. It's rather small with about 15 tables or so and bar seating. Once seated we practically had to yell at each other to hear. The fact that the kitchen is right behind the bar I think contributes to the noise. We really enjoyed the chips and salsa! Salsa is spicier than any other Mexican restaurant's we've tried. Queso was pretty good. The fajitas and chicken & rice were yummy! Portions are huge! We stuffed our bellies FULL and still brought home some! The host staff were friendly and our waiter was awesome! He checked on us often enough and kept our drinks full. Despite the loudness, everything was great and we will return again!

Yelp
I believe this is the best Mexican food I have had in Springfield!! Service was excellent and loved the atmosphere. Make sure you go hungry because the portions are huge.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is great! It was packed on the random week night I visited. I sat at the bar. Ordered the chicken quesadillas and it was great! Super attentive server and the HUGE beer was nice and cold. Would recommend this place to anyone.

Yelp
This place has an eclectic biker or tattoo parlor, ambience, and feel. It's very confusing on what kind of vibe this place is wanting to have. I feel like it's meant to be a hang out place for the outcast, and they just added Mexican food food as an afterthought. The food to me taste similar to Tex-Mex and very bland.
google avatar

Brittany L.

Yelp
The food, service, & prices are spot on every time. I've probably ate here over 50 times. Great go-to-spot. I've never waited even at busiest more than 20 minutes and for Springfield that's saying something. Go try!!

chris s.

Yelp
It's always busy for a reason! If yelp doesn't convince you the parking lot and all the people waiting to be seated during prime times should!
google avatar

Eugenia L.

Yelp
Waitresses were extremely rude. The food is good, but the weight staff are intolerable.

Yelp
We discovered this place when friends came to visit. They requested Mexican food, so we did a search (on Yelp of course ). We were greatly surprised to have lucked out on this place. The food was very good. Large portions. Service was good. Very friendly and helpful staff. Overall we fell in love with the place.

Yelp
What is your favorite food style? Mine has to be Mexican, I often say I could eat it every meal. In Spfld Mo you have a lot of choices but none is better than Cesar's. Located in what appears to be an old Pizza Hut this place was hopping. Cars, trucks, SUVs jammed the parking lot-one of tale tell signs of a good restaurant is car count, Cesar's had it in abundance. Step inside and you'll encounter a buzzing crowd, be prepared to talk loud to your tablemates, but hey, in reality you are not there to talk, you're there to eat. The menu has tons of options, tacos, enchiladas, fajitas it's all there. Pick your protein-they have it and it's all flavorful and good. I was rolling solo so I was guided to a spot at a packed bar which overlooked the guys busy making it happen on the grill-it was very interesting and entertaining watching them fill and fold giant tortillas, sling cheese, guac and sour cream. I ordered up three tacos: Al Pastor, Asada, Brria with a side of Charro beans. Each taco had great flavor and the beans were a nice addition to the overall meal. Chips and Salsa came with the meal and they were good. The Salsa spicy warm but not too hot for those who are sensitive, chips were warm, crisp and great with salt. Check this joint out and you'll be pleased, you'll leave full and you'll be thinking about the next time when you can go to Cesar's.

Yelp
Excellent food!!! And margaritas! Fast service. Usually pretty busy but worth the wait....

Yelp
I didn't dig it. The food was kind of "meh". I probably wouldn't go back. Not the best Mexican food option in Springfield, in my opinion.

Monica V.

Yelp
An update to my review. I contacted manager Ed who reimbursed us in full as well as our friends who were with us. He as well as the other staff were very apologetic. We will give Cesar's another try. We have gone there several times in the past with no issues.

Dustin F.

Yelp
Great quick friendly service! The food was amazing as well and came out quick. Definitely will be back and will recommend to anyone.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING! Margaritas are delicious and the atmosphere is so fun. Ask for Christina, she's the best!

Yelp
Food, service and ambiance all stellar! Great tasting marguerites and beer choices. Love the atmosphere and festive spirit!

Yelp
Everything was really good. I like sitting at the bar and watching the food being made. Very good atmosphere, the server asked or acknowledged us each time she passed. Very thoughtful, and they were packed!

Yelp
We were deployed into Springfield in relation to medical missions and had to find local restaurants that could cater and fit our needs. Cesars was very welcoming from the beginning, took care of our team, and their food has been fabulous. We really appreciate the customer service and care they have shown to us while stationed in Springfield. Everything has always been wonderful, and the food is an excellent quality. When you're in Springfield Missouri this is a must visit place! The restaurant has a fabulous atmosphere and the menu is spectacular. Thank you to everyone at Cesar's Old Mexico!

Yelp
Best Latin/Mexican food in SGF MO!!! I like to SoPusa which combines a Mexican salad and El Salvadoran Pupusa (like a thick corn tortilla stuffed with cheese). But everything I've tried is good - combined with friendly service.

Leslie H.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Great atmosphere too. Very small so long waits can happen.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a wonderful Mexican restaurant that serves incredible food. Very prompt service with a quick delivery of our order. I had a chimichanga and it was delicious: such a complex flavor. The accompanying elements are often a letdown it many places, but not here: refried beans and the rest - all fantastic. Their drinks are amazing. My dining partner ordered a margarita and it was so strong. A very welcome break from the mediocre drink service in many restaurants. If there was anything I would change, it would be the ambiance. This was quite brightly lit and the background noise was high. I would love to have seen it more romantic and quieter.

Noel R.

Yelp
Food was amazing everything cooked perfect service was great friendly best Mexican food I've had and we're from Florida so we know Mexican food

Armani E.

Yelp
Reasonably priced. Great atmospheres and clean. Food is DELICIOUS. Will definitely recommend. I will definitely return in the future.

Yelp
My friend loved her chicken enchiladas and the cheese dip. Her grandson loved his GIANT burrito but I wasn't super happy with my fajitas. They were okay but nothing I would ever order again. Took the leftovers home to my husband and he was also completely underwhelmed. The meat was stingy and the flavor was weird. The margs were awesome yhas was the service!

Debra W.

Yelp
Our favorite place to eat Mexican food in Springfield. We love everything we have tried here. The only complaint would be it's always SO LOUD. But worth it.
google avatar

Wendi C.

Yelp
Great service. Great atmosphere. Very busy place but we got there right before 530 and beat the rush. Everything was delicious and the portions made great for leftovers. Will come back.

Brittney S.

Yelp
I haven't had Mexican food this good in a very long time. It was delicious. The service was okay. We went at a slower time so I never had my water refilled. We have never been so when they put my plate down I just started eating. They realized they gave me the wrong food but never said anything to me. I just overheard the server saying it to the table behind me. I didn't mind because it was also enchiladas but not the same one I ordered. It was so delicious I didn't care. It would have been nice to have been approached to double check that the mix up was okay. I would still go back regardless of service because the food was that good. It might be that the fort Leonard wood area Mexican food is that bad, I don't know, but it was yummy. Definitely added to the list for Springfield trips.
google avatar

Yelp
Springfield has a lot of really delicious Tex-Mex, but Cesar's is clearly a favorite of many! Get there early, and even then you might have to wait. The wait's not so bad though, because you can order a drink to sip on in the outside waiting area, and you get to take the cup home! You must try the Skinny Margarita, it's refreshing and really packs a punch! The space is so well decorated, there are many personal touches and the ambiance is great, although it can be very loud. The service is fantastic every time I go! To start, their salsa is a little spicier than most restaurants in the area, and it has a great fresh flavor. We had the Steak Fajita Burrito, Chilli Relleno, Lengua Taco, and Pozole (not pictured). The Steak Fajita Burrito was just what I wanted, all the fixings of a Steak Fajita plate wrapped in a fluffy flour taco and topped with queso. Yum! The Chilli Relleno is always a favorite and it has an excellent flavor. The Lengua Taco is very authentic, served with cilantro and onion. The Pozole had a great flavor, although the pork was a bit dry. Overall, Cesar's is a Springfield classic and a favorite for a reason. Definitely give it a try!

Kelli M.

Yelp
Food was amazing and the service was top notch! We will definitely visit again when back in the area!

Yelp
My favorite Mexican restaurant in Springfield. Always great service and even better food. I always order the same thing because it never gets old. The Land & Sea dish is delicious!!
google avatar

Clayton W.

Yelp
I had the 3 item combination plate. A enchilada, quesadilla and a tostada. The restaurant is a huge marketing scheme. When you see it and read the reviews you think it's really good and AUTHENTIC Mexican food. This place is TERRIBLE. Don't eat here.

Yelp
Was in Springfield to see our youngest, and as usual to feed him. So we got on Yelp to find a new place to add to many places to take him to eat. Lol. So we figured we love Mexican food, and the name was cool. The place was packed, which we thought was a good sign. We were sitted quickly and our waiter was on point. We explained that it was our first time, and he told us some of the favorites that others chose, plus a couple of his favorites; because the menu had everything Mexican you could think of. We each ordered something we knew, because that is our way of testing the restaurant we eating at. Anyway, before our food came we ordered margaritas, my son opted for water. And they were huge and good. The food came on hot plates with a lot of food. The food was good and the drinks were good, the company excellent. We'll be back. (UPDATE: my spouse and I have been back already, without our youngest. Shh, don't tell him). Have to find pics of food, writing this in the middle of the night.
