The Biggest Dining Surprises and Grievances of 2018 | Eater San Diego

"I was really disappointed to see Ceviche House close, especially with Tahona moving in, and like others I was saddened by the shuttering of a place many people loved." - Candice Woo

Ceviche House Closes in Old Town | Eater San Diego

"I'm sad to report that Ceviche House has announced it will shutter its Old Town location. Founded by chef Juan Carlos Récamier, it began as a food vendor at local farmers' markets and moved into its first storefront on 30th Street in North Park in 2015. Last fall Récamier made the bold leap to launch a 2,400-square-foot restaurant in the center of tourist-trap–laden Old Town; he is known for his work in sustainability through his support of San Diego area fishermen and wanted to spark a shift in Old Town by focusing on local and seasonal ingredients and highlighting the flavors of modern Mexican cuisine. The restaurant shared a farewell message on Facebook." - Candice Woo

Google
Ceviche House is officially one of my new favorite spots! From the moment we walked in, the service was so thoughtful. While we waited to place our order, they gave my son a complimentary orange juice, such a sweet gesture that made us feel welcome right away. We placed our order, ran to Publix for about 10 minutes, and when we came back our food was nearly ready. Talk about efficiency! They even surprised me with an extra chicha morada, an absolutely delicious potato-based drink. I drank half of it on the way home because it was THAT good. My chaufa was flavorful, fresh, and perfectly seasoned. Seriously, yum! Friendly service, tasty food, and little touches that make you want to come back — highly recommend!

Google
This is such a great cozy place for a unique, well done, flavorful and fun meal. Nothing covering up for lack of authenticity, it is my favorite spot for Peruvian cuisine which I find fresh, aromatic, protein rich and packed with flavor. Ceviche is unlike most I’ve ever had. Thank you for a wonderful meal every time we visit.

Google
As a Peruvian, I can say this place is a really great spot to have fun with friends and enjoy some delicious Peruvian food! Oriana was one of the kindest servers I’ve ever had. I’ll definitely be coming back soon!

Google
Oouu my first time eating Peruvian food. The mixed chaufa and the exquisite seafood are delicious... a very clean place and excellent service.

Google
What an amazing experience! From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed with such warmth and friendliness. Our waitress, Angie, truly made the night special — she was so kind, patient, and helpful when we couldn’t decide what to order, offering great suggestions that turned out to be absolutely delicious! The atmosphere was quaint, colorful, and full of charm, with beautiful paintings that added so much character to the space. Every dish we tried was bursting with flavor and perfectly prepared. We left with full hearts (and stomachs!) and can’t wait to come back again and again. Highly recommend this gem of a Peruvian restaurant!

Google
My family’s GO TO spot for the best ceviche in town but honestly everything on their menu is BOMB, waitstaff is very friendly

Yelp
Cute restaurant with authentic Peruvian cuisine and vibes. Loved the menu, the options and the execution were amazing. I'll be back for more, but the house ceviche and the churrasco over fries with an egg on top (instant favorite for this traveler) were excellent. Wow was that good (see pic).

Yelp
Best Ceviche ever! They really treat you like family here. They try so hard to accommodate my picky self. And the restaurant atmosphere is one of a kind. It's beautiful and authentic in here. I love this place. I had to force myself to wait a whole 9 months of pregnancy to eat from here again. That took severe discipline on my part. I got so tempted.

Yelp
It's been a while, and it's time I updated my review. Ceviche House is a small place with big flavors and great customer service. Five stars for consistently amazing food!! This food is sooooo good. Just delicious! On this trip, we ordered our old faithfuls, jalea mixta for two and chaufa mixta. Jalea mixta is a huge plate perfectly fried shrimp, calamari, succulent chunks of fish and fried yucca. Topped with a mound of fresh pickled onions. The chaufa is loaded with chicken, steak, shrimp, calamari, peas and topped with green onions. All just delectable! I also tried, for the 1st time, their chicken tamal. The masa was tender and flavorful, the chicken was also soo tasty. On a Friday evening, this place was not packed, we were seated right away. The server immediately came over and took our water order. I was dancing in my seat because the food was that great and not loud music.

Yelp
This was a first time visit to Ceviche house along with first time to a Peruvian restaurant! The restaurant is located in the OBT area inside a fairly genric stripmall so parking/access was easy! It was a group dinner and we were seated promptly and greeted very warmly! Throughout the evening, the service was very friendly and very family like! We ordered a range of dishes from the seafood Ceviche to various types of fried rice which was a surprising find for Peruvian food! The green with cilantro/lime flavored fired rice was delicious! The seafood Ceviche was delicious and tasted fresh! Overall a great family friendly and budget friendly spot to try some delicious Peruvian dishes!

Yelp
This is a small Peruvian restaurant located inside a plaza that I dined at a few times but the last time I went I decided to not return. I had a few friends in town and decided to take them here for dinner. The food tastes good but unfortunately this last visit was enough to not go back. We ordered two appetizers (Leche de Tigre, which has raw fish) and both dishes had plastic in them. They were replaced and the second one had a fly in it. From there we decided to forego the appetizers. We had already ordered our entrees but after this, half the table decided to cancel their entree. The server was nice but the manager never came to check on our table or apologize for the experience. We paid for the appetizer that I never actually ate since it was ruined both times. It was very disappointing especially since I was bringing friends; not sure that I would go back for another try.

Yelp
Best food I've had in Orlando, FL. New experience for me with Peruvian culinary. I would go every day and try new dishes. They give a good portion that feeds 2. Tried a new beverage which was good too.

Yelp
Delivery order first time was amazing. Ordered thru Door Dash and was worth the value in taste and take out packaging. I will now visit this establishment with family very soon

Yelp
They started us with this crispy corn and spicy green sauce. It was a delicious starter. I got the pulled chicken with potatoes and rice: it was so flavorful, I love it. I got an iced tea which came in a can and I had to pour it which was a little strange. The prices are high but the portions are big. You'll have enough for a second meal. Overall pretty good, I would come back to try more dishes. Service was good, and ambiance was loud and crammed but it was Mother's Day.

Yelp
5 stars for FANTASTIC service and food! I recently had stop by for dinner for the first time after months of passing by this place driving home for work. I must say that I probably had avoided it in the past just because it's right on OBT and there are so many places to eat around that area, that I just never thought of stopping in to try it, but I am truly glad I did! Let's talk food. Of course going to a restaurant called Ceviche House I had to actually try their ceviche. When I'm telling y'all that it was some of the freshest ceviche I have ever had... I literally tasted the whole ocean y'all. It was so flavorful and refreshing and they loaded up on the seafood. I also had their seafood fried rice which was heavenly, their chicken saltado which was a nice sharing plate, churrasco steak which was like a party in my mouth, and their tamales which paired oh-so-well with the pickled red onion. Needless to say y'all I ordered a whole lotta food, and had leftover for days. At one point as the food was coming out to our table, I thought we weren't going to have enough room to even fit everything lol. I couldn't get over how large their portion sizes were which to me justifies the menu prices.... which was not even bad at all. Lastly, let's talk about the amazing service. We had multiple servers come up to our table throughout the evening to make sure we had everything that we needed. Our main server was super nice and very knowledgeable on the menu. She gave us such great recommendations. Overall, I would highly recommend Ceviche House for those who are looking for a great Peruvian spot in Orlando. Definitely check out this spot the next time you're around the area!

Yelp
This place is an amazing spot for some very authentic Peruvian food. The staff was extremely friend and very helpful on what to order. It is a nicer restaurant hidden in a strip mall. I will definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Great ceviche and service. A little tight on space for tables. Highly recommended for ceviche lovers.

Kalvin K.

Yelp
Living in the Hunters Creek area for a period of my life, I thought I enjoyed most of the offerings that were nearby. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this was a good restaurant to enjoy. The food was delicious and service was sufficient but not great. The calamari was very good and enjoyable. My pesto and fish were delicious. Would come back.
google avatar

Blake M.

Yelp
Stopped in the Ceviche House for dinner the other night. A guy at the grocery store recommended this place and it was delicious. We ordered the ceviche and some calamari. The food came out really quickly and this was enough food for two people. It's a small place next to Publix and doesn't look like anything special but the food was great. I'll definitely be back again. It did smell like floor cleaner when I came in but it might have been a one time thing.
google avatar

Carlos S.

Yelp
Food and service were very good! Great ambiance. I had the ceviche of fish and shrimp, and it was delicious. Wife had green spaghetti with steak, and she loved it. She's Peruvian and super picky! Definitely visit and enjoy the delicious food.

Yelp
I have to give This place a five star just because the consistant quality of food I get here everytime I eat. I literally have never had a bad meal. My husband and I came in for a quick bite because we were super hungry. The restaurant's is in a shopping plaza on OBT . It's not very big at all but it's perfect and cozy for a date or to bring your family. I didn't want to order too much because we were actually going out to dinner in a few hours. We ended up getting the mixed seafood ceviche and an appetizer portion that came in a martini glass. This is so full of flavor and bursting with fresh seafood. Everything was so bright and delicious. We then got a causa de atun which is the creamiest mashed potatoes with tuna fish stacked up. It doesn't sound like it would be much but it's so creamy and amazing. It's plated beautifully and is a really comforting dish. We also got the fish broth. It was basically a consomme of fish with generous chunks of white fish inside. The broth was extremely mild and delicate. The fish inside was very tender and melt-in-your-mouth. The simple broth was a nice contrast to the sour and super zingy taste of the ceviche. you reminded me of something that you would want if you were under the weather. we also got a side of fried yuca. This fried yuca was not the bagged and processed you got that you get from places like Pollo Tropical. This is delicious real you got that was fried so crispy and piping hot. I could have eaten a huge amount. It came with a really delicious dipping sauce. Like I said I've been here many times. I've had the chaufa before and haven't tasted better anywhere else. Their ceviches always fresh and flavorful. I don't think you'd be disappointed with anything on their menu.

Yelp
Tonight's dinner was amazing, the service, presentation, quality and most of all flavor was beyond my expectations. The ceviche was the best I have ever tasted outside of homemade, the causa was absolutely delicious! I vent my sons chicken strips (homemade) we're impressive! The Pollo saltado and bitec and papas huacaina were also phenomenal! This little restaurant knows how to deliver delicious and beautifully plated entrees and sides in a laid back atmosphere. I can't wait to visit Orlando again so I can eat here again!

Yelp
Coming to eat at this place was an excellent experience because the food is delicious, the mixed ceviche and the jalea mixta. If I could give them more than 5 stars, I would because the service is excellent and they are very friendly.

Yelp

Yelp
Amazing! The food here is amazing, especially the Pisco Sour. My husband loved it! We ordered, calamari and yucca fries as appetizers. Our dinner entrees were: 1) fried rice with seafood and steak mix 2) fish ceviche 3) octopus ceviche 4) fried fish ceviche 5) Kids dish - fish fingers & fries Everything was on point. My favorite dish was the Ceviche De Mariscos, which was my dish that I ordered. I absolutely loved it. The best part of my dish was the lime sauce and the tenderness of the fish. This dish is made with bass fish. We will definitely stop by for a visit again and again and will recommend all our friends. Thank you for amazing food and friendly service.

Yelp
The wife and I have never had Peruvian food before we ate here, so I definitely can't speak for its authenticity. What I can say is that I am kicking myself for not eating here before. While confined during the COVID-19 pandemic we wanted to support a local restaurant and but also step outside our comfort zone and try take-out from someplace we have never been before. The food portions are very generous and the flavors are absolutely wonderful. We had the Ceviche de Mariscos (which was absolutely fantastic) and the Chaufa de Mariscos (great flavor). The have a large menu and I am looking forward to trying some of their other dishes when I am in the area.

Mara L.

Yelp
This is one of my husband favorite places, we recommend the sea food ceviche is his favorite food and my favorite plates is Lomo saltado a lo pobre if you want to eat this is for you. The calamares fritos the best I ever tasted. The service always good and faster. The ambience familiar and very pleasant. I recommend this place.

Yelp
Food is good but service is horrible, will not go back again. Rude servers making good places look bad

Yelp
Amazing little gem in south orlando. The food was exquisite and came out fast during a lunch rush. Isai was very attentive and gave great service. Their Pisco Sour was so fresh and absolutely delicious. Can't wait to come back again.
google avatar

Manuel P.

Yelp
Another great Peruvian gem in the area! Nice little sized clean place with good seating. What I liked best: - food was ready in 5-7 mins! - fresh as hell - ceviche was delicious (bass, not generic white fish) - Jalea mixta for 2 is a MUST, perfect battering - price was good, generous portions Nothing I didn't like. Highly recommend it if you're looking for some quality Peruvian food with a taste bud for some fried seafood as well!
google avatar

Jonathan M.

Yelp
Best Peruvian food! Every time we visit our family in Orlando we visit Ceviche house 2-3x
google avatar

Yelp
One of the best ceviches I've ever had! The leche de tigre was amazing and the service was superb! thank you for a great dining experience! We had two ceviches and a seafood soup, the portions were plentiful and more than enough for two. The food was fresh and flavorful! Simple delicious and authentic.
google avatar

Carla A.

Yelp
Every time my husband and I visit a city, we always check out Peruvian restaurants. Being from Peru myself, and having a mom that makes delicious Peruvian food, it's hard to find a restaurant that gets it right. So while in Orlando we decided to check out Ceviche House and we were not disappointed! We ordered the anticucho corazón for the appetizer and the portion was pretty big. It was so good that my husband who does not eat beef heart ate some, as well as our toddler girls. The ceviche was good and spicy enough. But it was so much that for the first time ever, we were not able to finish it lol. We did not even get to finish the arroz chaufa de mariscos and the tallarín verde. Big portions! I am a soup lover and ordered the sopa criolla which is beef, noodles, and eggs. So good. We were also surprised at how reasonably priced the dishes were. The service was great and our waitress was so sweet and attentive. This will definitely be our go to spot for Peruvian food when we are in town!

Alex L.

Yelp
Awesome food order the sea food fried rice and the Peruvian cookies. The delivery was fast. First time ordering from this restaurant.

Ayden T.

Yelp
The food was delicious and it came less then 10 minutes for 3 people for dessert I would recommend the tres leche it's the top seller and is also very good I would recommend to go
google avatar

Daniel P.

Yelp
We are true fans of Ceviche House. The food really is great. This visit, I tried the chaufa rice con pescado. My wife the lomo saltado pobre, which she loved because it is served with an egg. The lomo saltado, with the egg and maduros was sensational, my wife was dancing in her seat. The steak tender, the tomatoes and onions, nice and cooked but still had a bite to them. The fries and the rice, divine. The egg was the crown jewel, overeasy perfection over my rice. The flavors, amazing. My rice, as all the other rices we have tried here before was great. It was filled with big chunks of grilled fish, and lots of veggies. This is basically a fried rice but not any fried rice, it is flavor full, smoky and well balanced. We will be back.

clive m.

Yelp
Food. Service and ambiance was good for a hole in the wall restaurant. Portions are very generous without sacrificing quality. Food came out hot and fresh. Great place for quality Peruvian food.

I had their Pollo Saltado -- so flavorful My bf had their Camarones Saltado -- so good And my daughter (8yrs old) had -- kids pollo saltado (without veggies) Food was packed with flavor and Papa a la Huancaina so yummy. Yelp
We came yesterday to visit my son that lives in Orlando . Yesterday and today we have been here for dinner . The Lomo saltado is great and tasty also tried the causa another perubian dish that was also good. The prices are not bad at all, for what they serve. Definitely I'll be back with the family to visit again. Thanks again .

Yelp

Yelp
I love this little gem already. Never had Peruvian food and I have been here twice for lunch already. I live in the Clermont area and work in Orlando so they are lucky I don't live nearby because I would be here every other day. I can tell you that the food tastes great, the prices are fair and portions are good too. I've tasted the lomo salteado y ceviche de pulpo and OMG, both dishes are excellent. I would like to try everything on the menu. If you are looking for something different, tasty, and affordable look no further and come to ceviche house, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Ceviche House never disappoints. Excellent food, consistent and very tasty. It's a small hole in the wall with plenty of foot traffic. Angie, our sever, was very attentive. I highly recommend this place. Our usual order is jalea mixta for 2 (platter with fried yuca, fried fish, fried calamari and fried shrimp) and chaufa de mariscos (fried rice with mixed seafood).
google avatar

Yelp
I come here a lot it's always very good and low price. Everything in the menu is good and the ceviche is fresh and delicious

Yelp
Best Peruvian food in town. I ordered a the Causa de Pollo and Lomo al Pobre with Mara cuya juice and a flan for dessert. I enjoyed every bite of my food so much. Super recommended. Will come back soon when we are in town.

Yelp
Probably the best Peruvian place in Orlando, it is not a huge restaurant but worth the wait if you need to wait. Prices are reasonable too.

Yelp
Espectacular ceviche and amazing food. The chaufa and sea food rice were the best we have tasted in a long time.
