Best Restaurants to Try While Visiting Wilmington, North Carolina | Eater Carolinas

"Ceviche’s serves up Panamanian staples in a rambling, beach shack-esque spot just north of the Wrightsville Beach drawbridge. As the name implies there are a variety of different ceviches to choose from including langoustine de coco (langoustine tails in a citrus and coconut milk marinade with ginger, red bell pepper, red onion, avocado, and cilantro) and the mango mahi (with jalapeño, red onion, red bell pepper, cilantro, and housemade hot sauce). A variety of tapas and empanadas are ideal for sharing, and larger plates like grilled sea bass, ropa vieja, and Panamanian paella are available alongside daily specials, cocktails, beer, and wine." - Matt Lardie

Drawing on Panamanian roots, this beachside favorite serves bright ceviches, seafood stews, and rum-friendly cocktails. Frequently recommended by Southern Living and kept current with strong diner reviews and reservations.

Absolutely blown away with the quality, freshness, presentation and service. We were recommended this place by a fishing guide, and the recommendation did not disappoint. The ceviches were excellent. The guacamole is incredible. The watermelon salad is one of the best dishes I’ve had in a while. All around, this is the best dinner I’ve ever had the WB area.

I've been wanting to visit here but parking was always limited. There was finally a spot available, so we stopped. The atmosphere here is laid back coastal with an earthy chick. The staff is happy, and everyone is there to make your dining experience enjoyable. From the fresh squeezed lemonade to the beignet desert, everything, including the service, was outstanding. Walk in the side door, near the Plaza for the hostess station, or when picking up your take out orders. We were quickly seated for a 6pm visit and were greeted with water while we placed our drink orders. The drinks alcoholic and non-alcoholic arrived quickly. And we placed our dinner orders. We had a member of our party celebrating a birthday, and he ordered multiple items multiple times during our visit. They didn't waste any time bringing out his mid meal orders. I have to say it. This is the one restaurant in the Wilmington area that I felt actually deserved every penny of their 270.00 bill. Living near the ocean, everything is a little more expensive and usually not worth the extra money. Not here. I had a great time with great people, serving amazing food...and I'll be back again. The scallops and pork back were tender, not over or under cooked. The blackened Mahi had perfect spices.

Great experience overall, will definitely be back. This was our first time here and every dish was great. From the cocktails to the ceviche and the main dishes, it was a great authentic experience. We have family from Costa Rica and this Panamanian fair had some parallels as expected. Will post more photos next time :)

Google
Perfect date spot for an amazing meal with unique flavor profiles across the board. Definitely recommend the ceviche sampler and looking into the special entree of the night.

Google
Amazing hidden gem in Wilmington! Extensive menu with too many good things to only go once. We started by sharing a large ceviche and yuca fries with the red sangria. Then got entrees. We could have been good with those starters to share. And the sangria pitcher was the most generous size I’ve experienced at a restaurant — definitely worth the price! Delicious and great vibe overall. Finally, and possibly a bit off to others that I included the pics but I appreciate/respect the commitment to small businesses and sustainability. No straws and eco products. That’s a choice by a locally owned business to prioritize planet over profit. (To me that’s awesome!)

Google
Our experience was good our entrées stole the show they were the best. I believe our appetizers could have been better. Food was fresh flavor was lacking. Out of all the ceviche, I believe the mango was the best one and the picture it’s the one to the far left. The one in the middle to the right was my second favorite then the one beside the mango to the left is my third, and I did not care for the one to the far right it was watery no flavor for me. The empanadas were OK. I probably should’ve tried a different one other than chicken. What made the empanadas good was the sauce to me I like it when a sauce elevates a meal and takes it to the next level. Luckily, the sauce made it good because it was average in my opinion. Now the fried brussels sprouts they will vinegar strong. However, once you take that cashew sauce and mix it well throughout the food, it was actually a perfect pair. I believe they balanced each other out and I actually enjoyed it. We should have ordered an entrée for an appetizer because I thought my dish was good the jerk skewers, the spice and savoriness from the shrimp was amazing and when you pair it with that sweet, savory curry as you can see in the pictures, I couldn’t wait to take a bite. The aroma was calling my name my. Now my date she had seabass and she let me have a bite. I almost told the waiter to bring me another plate of that if you’re looking for a dish to wow you get the Seabass. Sangria was great. I forgot to take a picture of my second drink you can’t go wrong with their cocktails. I will try this place again.

Google
Great little place with unique food and atmosphere. Had jerk shrimp, and beignets. My wife had scallops and pork belly and flan. It was all very tasty, perfectly cooked and well presented

Google
I went with some coworkers to celebrate a birthday. It was my first time going there and I missed the turn because I'm not very familiar with the area. The restaurant is quaint and beautifully decorated. Our waiter was very attentive, and patiently explained a lot to me about ceviche, which I was very grateful for. I got a sampler of 4 types of ceviche. It was all delicious. Parking is limited but the food is worth it.

Yelp
We live in Raleigh, were in Wilmington for an evening, and found Ceviche's on Resy. Could not have asked for a better dining experience. The evening started with the hostess assisting us with a great table. Our server was one of the best I've had in years of dining. It's like he was reading my mind. He made great suggestions, anticipated what was needed before we asked, and had a genuine care that the dinner and that evening was great. And the food. If everything thing else was bad, we would still return for the food! Anytime we are back in town, there will never be another decision on where to eat in Wilmington. Ceviche's it is...

Yelp
Always a stop when we come Wrightsville. The service is always the best. Drinks top notch. While I always love the Ceviche, I have never been disappointed with a dish. A definite must eat!!!

Yelp
First time here, and it was a huge disappointment, especially since it was our anniversary. We're locals, not tourists, and had a 5:30 reservation but got stuck in Friday traffic. We called ahead to let them know we'd be a little late and arrived at 5:45. When we checked in, the host greeted us with, "Oh, you're late," and mentioned they had a reservation coming in at 7:30, as if we were being timed from the start. Once seated, the rush began immediately. We were barely in our seats when the server asked for drink orders. We asked for a minute to look at the menu, but exactly one minute later, she was back, pushing us to order. Feeling pressured, we hurriedly picked drinks. Just as we started browsing the menu and discussing appetizers, the server dropped off our drinks and asked if we were ready to order food. We weren't, so we asked again for a little more time. In another minute, she returned, asking once more. I tried to explain that it was our first time there and asked for recommendations, to which she replied, "Literally everything is good." Not helpful. Rushed and anxious, we panicked and ordered an empanada and salsa to start. The appetizers came out almost immediately, and we were once again asked what entrees we wanted to order--despite only being there for about 15 minutes. The constant pressure to order made the whole experience stressful and uncomfortable. By the time we signed the check and left, it was 6:25. We were seated, had drinks, appetizers, and entrees, and were out the door within 45 minutes--without ever having a chance to relax and enjoy the meal. The restaurant wasn't even busy; there was just one other couple in the dining room, so the rush made no sense. We had hoped for a special, leisurely anniversary dinner, but instead, we felt unwelcome and rushed from start to finish. The food was good, but the service ruined the experience. If this is how they flip tables, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxed, enjoyable meal in Wilmington.

Yelp
What can I say my husband and I enjoy coming here to eat and have flights of rum. It's nestled right at the drawbridge by Wrightsville Beach. Our bartender has always been so knowledgeable of the runs there. Our good oh my you can't go wrong with anything here! Made fresh and comes out pleated to perfection! We miss this place. If you are in the area vacationing I highly recommend coming here. Try rum tasting flights you will be amazed! Thanks Ceviche's! Your owner and all the staff! We had amazing times there! Cheers!

Yelp
A girlfriend and I decided to grab dinner here after work recently. I hadn't been in awhile and was so excited! We sat outside (even on a super hot day, the patio was comfortable, and there were those spinning things on the tables to keep flies from bothering us). Our waitress, Natalie, was really attentive and friendly. We started by splitting the GOAT guacamole- deeeelicious! Only issue is that there definitely needed to be more chips with that happiness. For dinner, I decided to try the blackened scallops and pork belly. It was delicious! I was worried it might be a bit spicy, but no such issue- everything was so tasty, and the entire meal was super filling. No leftovers at all! I can't wait to return!
google avatar

Yelp
We got a reservation for two for the back patio. There was a fan and what looked like an outdoor air conditioner. It was still very hot trapping heat in the small outdoor space. There were also a lot of flies. Surprisingly they kept landing on our limbs but fortunately not the food so that was a plus. Next time, we will be sure to make an indoor reservation. We shared the Quatro allowing us to sample all the ceviches. The sea bass, mahi, scallops and langoustine were bathed in delicious concoctions of lime, onions and other ingredients which made each cerviche unique. Of the four, I thought the scallops were the least fresh. A few of the scallops dried out likely from being on top of the barrel. The three salsas were ok. The sea bass was really fresh. The Panamanian paella needed a bit more shellfish. It was missing something but Im not sure what. Maybe I'm used to a more wet rice from the paellas I've had before. Overall, I would definitely come back for the ceviches, but skip the salsas and to try the other entree options.

Yelp
Taste explosion. My tastebuds were dancing from all of the perfectly balanced flavors. I've been a long time fan of Ceviche's but the special tonight took me to a different level of pleasure. The special was Monk Fish medallions on truffle mash potatoes with crunchy sweet potato crisp and broccolini. The Monk Fish was prepared perfectly. The flavors in this dish were balanced perfectly. Truffle can be overwhelming but this chef got it right. Each bite teased you with the truffle and the light gravy on top has a spice that gave each bite a slight heat which balanced the truffle. The crunch of the sweet potatoes on top of the dish added to the multiple textures of the dish. The chef really did an amazing job on this special. My mouth is watering just writing this review. The chef also came out to see how I liked the dish and all I could say was superbly balanced and delicious. My husband and friend had two dishes that are always favorites on the menu, the scallops with pork belly and the tuna poke. Always great choices. My advice is never leave before you have the beignets and the "pot a cream." You have to eat them together. Every server who passed our table checked on us and made sure we had everything we needed. The manager is also amazing. We sat in the bar tonight but I think every area of this small, cozy restaurant is enjoyable. We are lucky to have a piece of Panama in Wrightsville beach and my compliments again to the chef who wowed me with the special!

Yelp
Very good service, flavorful food, and a great location! My only complain is the yuca fries having oil spilling out of it and covered the plate. I understand they were deep fried, but some of the oil could have been blotted out. Otherwise the Ropa Vieja was super flavorful and delicious!

Yelp
"Got the fearing, power steering Pistons popping, ain't no stopping now Panama" (Van Halen) Fantastic.... Ceviche's was fantastic. Ceviche's Owner/chef, Hunter Tiblier grew up in Panama fishing with his dad and picking mangoes. His restaurant pays homage to Ceviche's Panamanian roots and native flavors. We started our five-star lunch with an order of mango guacamole ($8) served with house made tortilla chips. The guacamole was fantastic with the fresh avocado and mango flavors bursting through. The lunch menu gave us Blackened Corvina Tacos ($20) and Coconut Shrimp ($14). The tacos were mine. Corvina is a white fleshed fish found in the Pacific Ocean along Central and South America. Each taco had a double corn tortilla, a big hunk of fish and plenty of pickled cabbage, pineapple salsa, jalapeño aioli, and guacamole. If that isn't enough for you, no worries because the dish is served with a big scoop of coconut rice. I asked for some hot sauce, and out came a goldish sauce that was nuclear in a great way. I understand Chef Tiblier's father makes it himself. The Coconut Shrimp dish included six big, breaded shrimps served over arugula and tossed with citrus vinaigrette and drizzled with a sriracha honey sauce. They were a fantastic combination of flavors. Our gourmet Panamanian lunch totaled $44.94 after tax and before tip. It was one of the best meals of our vacation.

Yelp
Excellent food service and ambiance! We had the guac, ceviche sampler and the seabass - all were exceptional. We were too hungry to take pics so just take our word for it! Get the traditional guac and not the goat cheese one....unless you want a creamier style guac.... Service was excellent / our server Hinsdale is a true pro and did everything right from the greeting to checking in with us many times - to providing the check promptly. I now know why this place was fully booked on a Monday night in November!!

Yelp
I went here for a business dinner with a colleague and spouse. The atmosphere was tavern-like and cozy. Server was amazing. Busser a bit overzealous.. make sure to hold on to your plates and drinks if you're not ready to part with then haha. He had empanadas (double order), she had been craving the Ropa Vieja and I just wanted Ceviche. Started with 2 cocktails and a beer. Very nice. I got a Shrimp appetizer size ceviche. It was awesome !! Intrigued I ordered the sampler for my main course. All great, but that shrimp with coconut milk is to die for. Next time I'll just have two big bowls of that. Very nice. Definitely go back next time through...
google avatar

Becky B.

Yelp
Absolutely perfect! I got the sample plate with four ceviches. Sooo good, each with their own burst of special flavor. My fav were the Mahi Mahi and Sea Bass. Scallops were good too. We also had the best Coconut shrimp and a fabulous margarita!
google avatar

Monica P.

Yelp
I finally go to try this place! I went with a friend at the end of November. We sat at a high table. Loved the interior. We ordered the salsa trio sampler; and two different ceviche's (small portions versus the large). Everything was excellent. Next time, I'll skip the salsas, as all three dishes had chips. Too much. Maybe the empanadas. Friendly service, although the young waitress never brought my friend's soda, even though she asked twice.

Yelp
First timers, really good food the place is really clean and the crieg our server was super nice he made sure everything was perfect for my family and I. Atmosphere is pretty chil perfect for families.
google avatar

Kristine F.

Yelp
Great vibe. Love all the decor even in the restroom. Salsa was more of a pico de gallo. Had a good taste. I will say for the salsa and ceviche they should provide enough chips for the amount of food. But they did bring additional chips when we needed it. The empanadas were good. Beef was definitely better than chicken as it had a lot more flavor. The waitress was friendly and offered suggestions on the menu.
google avatar

Melissa C.

Yelp
Consistently amazing food with a wonderful atmosphere. Every time we are in the Wilmington or Raceville Beach area we make sure to have dinner here. love that you can make a reservation online.
google avatar

J C.

Yelp
If you think you don't like ceviche you must try it here! The sampler is a perfect way to find a favorite. Mine was the scallops, his was the langostines. I ordered the pollo empanadas that were very good. Great flavor in the chicken filling, pickled onions and the sauce. He had the Ropa Vieja and nearly licked the plate clean. The beef was tender and flavorful!! Every detail of the dish was on point. The plantains were the best I've had. We also ordered the elote salsa and was nice as well. We will definitely need back again. If we lived in Wilmington it would be a regular spot for lunch or dinner.
google avatar

Bruce B.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place and was not disappointed. We had several appetizers for our dinner. I had the four types of ceviche. All had a little kick to them so I got to eat the whole thing since my wife is not a fan of spice.
google avatar

Deborah W.

Yelp
I was in Wilmington on vacation and my Airbnb hostess invited me out to dinner. Luckily we had reservations because it was quite busy. We shared the mango guacamole and it was delicious with fresh baked chips. I had a blueberry lemonade mock-tail and it was super refreshing. For dinner I ordered the tuna poke and that was outstanding! I loved the tropical ambiance which was quite unique. The waitress was on point and made sure we were enjoying our time there and our meal. I definitely plan on returning to this restaurant when I'm in town again and recommending it to friends.

Yelp
Incredible!!! Our great evening started with being seated near the rear of the restaurant in a super cool space with love plants and nice romantic lighting. Super cool vibe! In terms of service, Devon was our server and paid close attention to us throughout the meal. Even though she had other tables, we were well taken care of. For the food, we split an order of paella and it was both plenty for the two of us. It was well presented and jam packed with flavor. I highly recommend this dish!! The rock star of our meal was the cocktails. We had a mojito, which was simply amazing. The mint and lime was just right. The Sea Love Margarita was incredible. I normally do not enjoy a margarita, but Devin assured me it would be worth it, and she wasn't lying! And lastly, I had the Cucumber Kick, which is a blend of St Germaine, Gin, simple syrup, lemon juice and soda water was OFF THE CHAIN, FIRE and whatever other current word for AWESOMELY DELICIOUS! Folks, if you've never been here....GET HERE!! You will be so happy!

Yelp
One of my most anticipated restaraunt visits after seeing it on triple D. I commented to my wife without even realizing we'd be in the area 2 weeks later that the chef was one of the best I'd ever seen in the show. No issues being seated as a party of 5 with reservations during a rainy and cold day, that's why I assume the restaraunt was empty. The ceviche was on the watery side (likely the bottom of the batch?) and the chips were inconsistent, with some loaded with salt and some bare. Portions are small for the price. I left hungry. Arroz con Pollo was good but the rice was way under, not paella pan under in a good way but straight up hard. To my detriment, I didn't complain and finished it anyway. The cabbage slaw was pretty dry but flavored well, I wish it had wilted a touch. My vegetarian parents found exactly what they wanted. As did my low carb wife. Everyone felt the food was pretty decent. Server was fine, service was good. We were happy they remembered it was my mother's birthday. I'd go back and try different things and I think expectations were too high on my end. I will try again because I really want that chef/owner to cook for me (I don't think he was there during our visit)

Yelp
We dined here on a Friday night. We didn't have a reservation but we were sat quickly. We ordered the ceviche and guacamole for an appetizer. The ceviche was a fresh cut of fish but very heavy on the lime flavor. The guacamole was good, again heavy on the lime. I ordered the blackened tuna dish & it was a fresh cut of fish. It comes with A LOT of brussel sprouts. I almost wish they gave you half the amount of sprouts & another side instead of so many sprouts. My husband got the pork belly & scallops and loved it. He said the scallops were very tender & the pork belly was cooked perfectly. Overall, the food was good. Our waitress was nice & attentive. The restaurant is cute & quaint. It was a bit cold inside, so bring a jacket. The parking lot is small but it was easy for us to find a spot. We'd come back!

Yelp
i really hope before i ascend to the cosmos that those coconut shrimp flash before my eyes WOW!, PHENOMENAL, MIRACULOUS, AND FANTASTIC were the only words i said the entire dinner
google avatar

Taylor A.

Yelp
I can't believe I've lived here almost ten years and have waited this long to try ceviches. I thought many times we should try that place and wish I would have jumped on it sooner. The food was explosive in flavor, fresh and perfectly cooked, creative and awakening of the spirit. I got the jerk shrimp, recommended by our server, exceeding any and all expectations. My husband got the red drum special. Both were phenomenal. We also ordered some apps and took dessert home, we'll definitely be back. The service and atmosphere was welcoming and well organized. A hidden oasis.

Yelp
Ceviches is one of our go to restaurants when in Wilmington. They are always hopping and the staff is always smiling! Their food and drinks are fantastic, you really cannot go wrong with anything you order. I really enjoy trying something new from the menu every time we visit. Ceviches is truly a gem in Wilmington and I highly recommend them!
google avatar

Julie S.

Yelp
We had heard about Ceviche's but this was our first experience. I made reservations and we dined on the back patio which was really nice. We started off with the guacamole sampler. The varieties were traditional, mango and goat cheese. All were fantastic. We also got the La Nina ceviche sampler which is 2 ounces of each of the classic offerings. They were all delicious!!! Our entrees were fantastic as well ( we ate too much, but with a menu like this it was difficult not to )!! I got the monk fish which was blackened and served over roasted broccolini and sweet potatoes. The fish was perfectly cooked and the accompanying vegetables were delicious. My husband got the paella and it was out of this world. Our friend got the chorizo and goat cheese empanadas for his entree and enjoyed them very much. We had skipped lunch and were so excited about eating that I didn't take any photos. I wish I had because the food looked as great as it tasted! Service was excellent too! We will definitely be back!!!

Yelp
Came here while in town for the holidays and very much enjoyed my meal. I had never been here before but had heard about how great the food was and I must say, I was not disappointed! My favorites were the coconut shrimp and the mango Mahi-mahi ceviche. The ceviche was SO delicious and fresh, I see why it's in their name! Big tender chunks of fish paired with the perfect bite of mango. The coconut shrimp was delightful. Flakey, crunchy and everything you want out of coconut shrimp. I also love that it was paired with a sweet/ spicy sauce. Yum. We had gotten the pineapple salsa which was just ok, but not spicy enough for my liking and it felt too much with the mango ceviche we also got. I'd get the ceviche over the salsa. For my meal I opted for the La Plancha with the seabass. I had never had corvina before and I loved how buttery smooth and light it was. It was cooked perfectly and it felt like a great healthy option with the coconut rice and daily veg. It was good! We ended with flan, which tbh was not my favorite. It wasn't the texture I am familiar with for flan, felt more cheesecake like to me. I would skip this. We also had margs, which were tart and light on the alcohol but still good and we got them on special. Our server was very attentive and sweet. Great service. I really liked the space itself, I had no idea how big it was and didn't realize they have a whole separate bar section- cool! Very calming, clean and beautiful interior. Make sure to grab a reservation on OpenTable! 4.7/5

Brandi Z.

Yelp
My friends took me and my friend here when we were visiting them, and it was delicious! I have craved the Ropa Vieja ever since! It was tender and juicy. It was perfectly portioned, with great-tasting rice and beans and perfectly cooked plantains. I got one of the drinks too, and it was great. The servers were very nice, and the food came out quickly. We didn't have to wait long to get in either. It's kind of a bar atmosphere. It was a little bit noisy, but the food was amazing. And it outweighs the noise. Fortunately, they do have to recipe for the Ropa Vieja online thanks to Guy Fieri. So, I can make it since Ceviche's isn't very close. Highly, highly recommend! Thanks to Meghan

Yelp
We didn't have a reservation but got right in at 5 with our party of 4. It filled up quickly so either have reservations or go early. We had sea bass ceviche, margaritas, blackened mahi mahi and an order of empanadas. It was delish, our server was very attentive and price was just right. We will be back!

Maral I.

Yelp
We had lunch and we chose the spot based on rating. Very small portions in the extent that we needed to order 2 portions each. Normally and at absolute majority of places we always need a box as we can't finish our food.
google avatar

Renee U.

Yelp
Pros: cute ambience Food was decent, best part was the ceviche sampler for $30 with 4 ounces each. My favorite was the original & coconut Fish dish was ok, nothing special, same with paella. Overall- ceviche rocks!! And the yucca fries were really good too. Cons: small place and you really do need to make reservations to eat anywhere in Wilmington apparently even on a weeknight since everyone goes out to eat there.
google avatar

Christina M.

Yelp
Overall experience was okay. Parking was not great. I have a big truck and there is little parking and small spaces. It was also not clear where to park if you're not familiar with the area. Staff was friendly enough, but seemed bothered by serving us. The ambiance was cute. I loved the homey-ness of the place. We sat inside, but in the garden area. They could use more fans because it was very hot. The food was good, but not as spectacular as I had hoped it would be. The chips were decent, I could tell handmade, but I just didn't like them. The Ceviche was good. I really enjoyed Langoustina de coco was AMAZING, best thing I ate. I would recommend trying it at least once, I'm sure that it is a good fit for others, just not somewhere I will be going again.

Irina S.

Yelp
We were welcomed for lunch and seated right away. The service was pleasant. We had a sea bass dish and sea bass tacos. I enjoyed the tacos with spicy fish and tasty additions of pickled cabbage, pineapple and avocado. Definitely, my favorite on the menu now!

Yelp
Ambiance inside is nothing special but the service was very good and the food ranged from totally solid to fantastic Tried the salsa trio, the carne empanadas and the four ceviche sampler ('El Quattro') and here were my thoughts A. Salsa trio: 1. Pineapple salsa -- fantastic though a bit one not as it is almost entirely pineapple; 2. Salsa Fresca -- no heat but very fresh and very tasty and 3. Corn salsa -- a bit bland but I loved it because I love corn. My wife can take or leave corn and didn't like this one at all. B. Empanadas -- very good and glad there were two of them. The jalapeño aioli had no heat but was pretty tasty C. Ceviche sampler: 1. Langoustine in coconut milk -- chock full of langoustine but very very heavily flavored by the coconut milk. I liked it but my wife who dislikes coconut was not a fan; 2. Corvina ceviche -- loaded with very fresh fish. More red onion than I'm used to but I loved it; 3. Mahi mango -- my favorite. Jalapeños kicked the heat up a notch and the perfectly ripe mangos were a great sweet counterpoint. I am not a ceviche snob so didn't mind that mahi is a cheaper and 'fishier' fish than the corvina And 4. Mixto -- it was in a different type of sauce that was strongly flavored by chipotle peppers. I'm not a huge fan of the little bay scallops but these were very fresh and the shrimp were delicious. This one was my wife's favorite. Also should add that the hot sauce isn't that hot but is really flavorful -- a small bit added to the mixto and the langoustine ceviches really upped the flavor. Good by itself with the chips too. Overall we will definitely return and personally I can't wait to try some of the hot dishes as well as chowing down on more of that mahi mango ceviche.

Yelp
Restaurant is top notch from the drinks to the dessert. Anything off of the menu is so fresh. It might seem like a hole in the wall , but the food is so fresh.

Yelp
If you are Hispanic and/or if you do not support racism, DO NOT GO HERE. I brought my family out for dinner here on 6/1. They were visiting from out of town. I had been wanting to try this place since I moved here to Wilmington a little over a year ago, but never got around to it. Well, this past weekend we walked in and we were so excited to try the food since we are Dominican and some of the menu items are our cuisine (for example, sancocho is ours, but this location puts a Panamanian twist to it). We got our appetizers with the "salsa"which was actually pico de gallo, and the elote dip which was quite literally just cold corn that tasted like it was straight from the can. Even though the appetizers were awful, we were still looking forward to the food. Our waiter looked at us with such disgust every time we asked for something. He wouldn't even respond to us when we'd ask for things. He'd go grab things and put them on our table and not say a word. He also rushed us to put our order in. Seems like he just did not want to deal with us. We decided to ask for our bill for our drinks and appetizers so that we could get dinner elsewhere. The only decent part of this experience was the manager who came over to apologize to us. She did not make us pay for the appetizers and drinks, which was nice. She tried to get us to stay, but we were far too uncomfortable. Our server was being kind to everyone else except for us. We were the only Hispanics there. I did not expect such an experience from a place that is Hispanic inspired. Take your business elsewhere.

Yelp
Fresh and delicious food. My daughter loved the empanadas. I tried the monkfish ceviche and it was perfect. We also got the tuna poke- the tuna was by far the best we had in NC. Service was pleasant and professional. We sat outside on one of the small tables by the door and they had a shade it was very pleasant. The deck and dining room both look cozy and relaxing . Will be back!

Yelp
Food and service is excellent - love the decor. Best food on island in our opinion. Fish cooked perfectly and the empanadas are the best we have ever had. Our first choice for dining in wrightsville!

Yelp
Let me start off by saying, the loss of one star is due to location/ambience. My mom and I actually laughed when we pulled up because it's RIGHT on the side of a busy road in Wilmington. We requested to be seated outside, and our view was of the traffic speeding by - my anxious self was worried a car would accidentally veer off and plow through our table! NEVERTHELESS... The ceviche was sooooo good and fresh! We shared the guacamole flight and ceviche flight.. the chips were homemade, crisp and golden... and each ceviche and guacamole was 10/10!!! My personal favorites were the classic and the coconut milk ceviches! And the guacamole with the goat cheese! So so yum! I also had a margarita and it was perfect - not too sweet! I would definitely visit again - although maybe I would get my ceviche to go and eat it on the beach instead of staring as cars drive by!

Yelp
We came here for dinner and as far as Spanish foods go, The chef being from Panama, has an amzing selection to choose from, the Arose Con Pollo is amazing, The drinks are very good and the service today being Served by Devon and assisted by Lillian was wonderful, I was most taken aback by Lillian (My Great Aunts Name) although bussing tables was constantly a team player and checking on tables for clearing platees, getting waters/Drinks and When our chips got low did she just run by, No she went above and beyond. I am not skipping over evon, she was our server but the personality came through and she just made dinner, just amazingly pleasant. One thing about improvement is the Salsa and the drinks, they are both good but for some reason consistency can be not so bueno about every 3rd or 4th visit, just different. Always 1% Better Cevishe's is our go to place for spanish influenced cuisine, let it be your too!

Yelp
I've been meaning to come here for a while and finally came here with my mom this weekend. We made our reservations late so we were only able to get an early reservation at the bar. It was already packed and pretty loud when we arrived. I started with the Fresca ensalada, and my mom got the pineapple mojito. We both enjoyed our drinks. We shared the coconut shrimp starter which was really nice - good crunch, nice sauce, 5/5 overall. For entrees, she tried the scallops and pork belly, and I got the paella. Both were good, but she thought hers could use a bit more seasoning and the texture of the paella was a little bit off. Overall I'd be back but I'd try something different next time.

Yelp
After waiting six years to finally try out this restaurant, I was able to visit this year for my birthday! I was literally like a little kid in a candy store. This is one off of my bucket list and let's say it did not disappoint from the service to the ambience everything was amazing, we started out with cocktails and I got the Panamanian painkiller since it was one of my favorite cocktails and it was amazing. We then had all of our items brought out at once and we chose the ceviche sampler the scallops and pork belly entrée and empanadas the ceviche was extremely fresh and absolutely divine, I wish the tostadas could've been a little more crispy or fry to order but they were still decent. The langoustine ceviche was actually my favorite. The scallop and pork belly entrée was absolutely amazing. The scallops were cooked perfectly and they were huge and the pork belly asparagus and mashed potatoes were all divine. We got the Carne Asada and the chorizo and goat cheese empanadas I think the Carne Asada was my favorite. I'm so excited that I finally got to try out Ceviches.

Yelp
The Jerk Shrimp Skewer was the best dish out of all of them -- my friend enjoyed the blackened scallops and pork belly. Overall nothing was a showstopper. Service was standard and it seems they put a lot of money into the decor!

Yelp
The empanadas are the closest we've tasted to those we fell in love with at the food markets in Barcelona. The ceviches are perfectly healthy and delicious. Super close to the beach and worth the walk or short drive. A great find...we'll be back!

Yelp
Loved finding this one the way out to the beach. Tons of seating, a great menu, and super fresh and flavorful fish. The servers are quick, friendly, and are happy to share which parts of the menu are their favorites. The ceviche selection is good; changing daily based on what fish is fresh and available. I recommend getting a sampler and a couple of cocktails after a day on the sand -- no better way to unwind and relax!

Yelp
Seated us quickly eventing we didn't have a reservation, they were attentive, the food was fantastic & the prices were reasonable. Definitely going back next time we are in Wilmington &/or Wrightsville Beach.

Yelp
We went on a Saturday afternoon for lunch with a group of 7. We made reservations that morning which was good because they were busy! The food was delicious and so fresh! The interior is better than last time so I feel they are always improving. We like this place a lot.

Yelp
We found this restaurant on Yelp while we were visiting Wrightsville beach. It is located in Wilmington about ten minutes from the beach. The restaurant is small but does have indoor and outdoor seating, a parking lot, and is dog friendly. They also have a bar. Although the restaurant was packed we didn't have to wait for a table. We did have to wait a while for our food to be prepared. The food is inspired by the Central American country, Panama. Our sever, Devon, was helpful, patient and kind. We ordered the el quatro which is a sampler of four of their classic ceviches. My favorite was the mango mahi. The ceviche was so flavorful. The mango made it sweet with a minor kick from the jalapeños, peppers and hot sauce. My second favorite was the langostino de coco that was made with marinated lobster and avocado. The sea bass ceviche was my least favorite of the four. The ceviches were sever with tortilla chips and patacones. The tortilla chips tasted better with the ceviche than the patacones. We also got the frijoles y arroz. The coconut rice and beans were topped with avocado, salsa Fresca & pickled onions. I am typically not a fan of onions but these were delicious and tasted kind of sweet. The patacones went well with the beans and rice. The serving size is large enough to share if you are ordering other items. The meat inside of the pollo empanada was really good and tender. The Fresca de ensalada drink was also tasty and fresh. The drink is made from fruit such as mangos, apples and pineapple. I would def return if I am in the area.
