The 25 Best Bars On The Eastside

"Cha Cha Lounge holds the great honor of being directly across the street from Red Lion Tavern, which means you’re stumbling to this over-the-top bar afterward. If Cha Cha wasn’t in Silver Lake, it’d basically be another location of Cabo Cantina. The crowd can get rowdy, but everyone’s there to simply have a good time, and the foosball tables in the back are always a good idea." - brant cox, sylvio martins, nikko duren, kat hong, brett keating

12 Places To Drink When You Really F*ck Up

"Today was the company picnic at Griffith Park, and you asked your boss’s wife how far along she was. Turns out, she’s not pregnant. Leave immediately and get to Cha Cha Lounge. The Mexican cantina in Silver Lake admittedly gets rowdy late at night, but somehow the crowd never seems too obnoxious. There’s foosball in the back, a functioning vending machine, and tons of blacklight paintings that look amazing after too many beers." - brant cox

This is a great quintessential local bar. I've been here a few times. Doesn't get too crazy. good for people watching and a great spot to listen to some tunes. Drink decent beverages and feel like a rat with your friends or by yourself.

Google
This place is awesome. Been coming off and on for a few years now. There's a small parking lot in the back which is great. Tends to get packed on the weekends and service takes a while because of it. But all bar tenders are very friendly and the vibes are great. Would recommend for friend groups and get together. No food is served here just drinks.

Daniel Ledesma

Google
This is a bar not a lounge. An alright bar, if you’re a fan of dive bars this is the place to go. Layouts a little difficult to follow through. Order your drinks in their entirety and close out because if not, you will be waiting for a long time to be served again. Bartenders are more interested in talking to all the girls here than serve other patrons.

Google
This bar is the best kind of dive bar. It's a staple of the area and the drinks are great so you know why. The area is really nice too with lots of options to eat and drink around. Definitely recommended if you're in the area. You won't regret it.

M Hernandez

Google
The foosball table is fun. Bathrooms are usually quite questionable. But either way I like coming here because the music is good and they have this projector set-up that is fun for disassociating into when they have something on.

Google
Looks like my back alley way. lol Dark and settle environment. Tables and chairs. Too many mirrors imo. A good place to get F-up and social with others.

Google
Its Ok if you're just around the area. Ambience is more of a hipster vibe, crack heads hangout here I noticed. They have a DJ and a mini dance floor, no complains with the service, bartenders are pretty quick. Only thing that I dislike is the parking. Good luck if you come here late at night though, its a busy street with residencial and apartments.

Google
It seemed very promising with the line outside but unfortunately was a disappointment. It was also odd because the line was so long but once inside the bar was empty. The staff were unfriendly. And sadly the inside smelled moldy. My group stayed for one drink but couldn’t stand the moldy scent. We did not have a good experience :(

Yelp
Came here on a Friday around 8pm. There's about 6 parking spots in the back. We were able to park there. The first thing I noticed inside was the red lighting. It set the tone of low-key and chill. The music was more background noise which I liked. There's also a good amount of seating. We ordered the first round of drinks. Our bartender was nice. He didn't talk much. We sat at a round booth. We were able to talk without having to yell. This lounge is a place you can sit unwind, talk, and have a beer. There's a lot of decorations to look. The people that we saw that night were also chill. Nobody was overly loud. A good variety of people too; Straight, gay, black, Hispanic, white. I felt comfortable. We had a second round before we called it a night. Great place.

Clarissa B.

Yelp
Absolutely horrible experience. The security at the door was incredibly rude and unprofessional. We were told to wait because he said he would come back for us--but he never did. Meanwhile, he let other people in before us, clearly showing favoritism. We were left standing there looking dumb, completely ignored. After waiting for way too long, we ended up going to the bar across the street instead, where we were actually treated like people. Terrible customer service. Never coming back. Avoid this place if you expect basic respect.

Yelp
I love Cha Cha but they definitely need to change up the music. I don't want to hear someone's vinyl records. It's cool but at the same time I'd like to enjoy some really good music. I hope the owner of this establishment reads this and takes into consideration about changing the music.

David B.

Yelp
Was outside waiting in line on a Saturday night, little by little the guy checking IDs is letting people go in which is cool but when it comes to me and my family he tells us he'll comeback. 1 minute later he's at the door with the line being held at the driveway, he lets a whole group in that barely walks up because he's friends with one dude out of that group and we ask him why he let them in right away and his response was he'll come to the driveway to get us when he's ready. So we decided to get out of line and went to the bar across the street, great bar and amazing service definitely will be returning to the red lion tavern! That guy that let his friends in at cha cha and not real customers was wearing a aliens T-shirt, I guess he's a fan of that franchise lol

Yelp
Great spot for cheap drinks ! Came here with a couple friends to celebrate our long distance friend finally being back and had a great time. Low lighting and a dj plus drinks that weren't expensive made for a great night. The bartender worked fast and we came on a sunday so it wasn't too busy either! We came around 9 on a sunday and the bar wasn't full till around midnight. Would definitely recommend :)

Cesar S.

Yelp
Hahaha oh man do I have stories about this ol place here! Everyone has to come here atleast once because it's always a vibe for sure
google avatar

Olivia C.

Yelp
drinks were really good and affordable, loved the decor and vibe, music was a mix. a little hard finding parking and love the photo booth!
google avatar

Victoria V.

Yelp
This is such a great casual vibe! I came on a Sunday night so I'm sure it gets a lot busier. There is a very casual vibe in here so it's great for catching up with friends and just talking. There's a lot of seating and some foosball table plus a cute little Photo Booth. The drinks are also really cheap so that's definitely a plus.
google avatar

Yelp
I must be a fool for thinking a tiki bar had coconut and could make a piña colada. This is not a tiki bar in any way, shape, or form! Service is mid at best and the music is worse - might as well go to Red Lion across the street. The bouncer was chill as hell though, great guy!
google avatar

Magnolia B.

Yelp
The best kind of dive bar - fun, junky aesthetic; cheap drinks; chill vibe. They have a photo booth AND a vending machine of eclectic "treasures". One of my favourite spots in Silver Lake.
google avatar

Tigran N.

Yelp
First time visiting last night. There was a line outside but when I went in it wasn't very packed so not sure why they had a line. The bartenders were fast and the drinks were good. The prices are normal per LA bar standards ($13 for cocktails) The vibe was cool too and they had decent music playing. Overall it's a decent local bar to grab a few drinks and spend a night at
google avatar

Lys G.

Yelp
Worker told my friend to, and I quote "Shut Your Bitch Ass up" when she asked him not to bang on the door while she was using the restroom. Lol. But also, scary when it's a larger man against a girl. Cha Cha is fine, drinks are overpriced, music was odd for a tiki bar (2018 Cardi B), and it's kind of lame since tiktok made it blow up. The David Lynch drink was good though and red lighting always makes me feel cute.
google avatar

Carll F.

Yelp
We felt like celebrating a few things. My mothers Birthday, twins Birthday and Valentine's Day so we knew a place in Glendale a neighborhood dive bar Cha Cha Lounge, The atmosphere is great the drinks are even better the crowd is friendly and fun , The bartenders are very knowledgeable on all the best drinks if you want a good time I recommend this place good for any day of the week
google avatar

Derek B.

Yelp
I was suggested by the bartender at the nearby Thirsty Crow' to try put this place...the Cha Cha Lounge. Stays open until 2:ooam , even on a Sunday night. I love the interior lighting: x Nas light strings and plenty of red lights all strung up in a tiki bar style ambiance. I'm sippin' on a Navy Grog ( told the bartender the recipe) and quietly people watching: it's packed but seating was easy to attain. Old naugehyde booth seating, tables and a cool looking rectangular tiki bar. Come here folks. And just across the street is the Red Lion Tavern and a few yards north is the Silverlake Wine bar

Yelp
Great non alcoholic drink selection. Got the best little non alcoholic pineapple cider. So fun!!

Yelp
It's Cha Cha...legendary bar that still has its functioning Photo Booth! Had one since 2010 and love the collection. It's always dark, it's always tiki, it's always divey. Men's bathroom is a site to see. They serve water out of an Igloo container and it's self serve. The Foosball table is always a great time and the bartender will give you quarters to play for cash. Drinks are great and reasonably priced. This should never been your first stop during the night, rather your last.

Ava L.

Yelp
Drinks were fine and decently priced but the bartender service was horrible. He didn't take my order at the bar (completely ignored me every time I tried to get his attention) so I got in line to order. A drunk guy tried to cut in front of me when it was finally my turn and so I stepped in front of him. The bartender who ignored me before tried to take the drunk guy's order instead. I explained that he missed my order earlier and he told me that I had an attitude. Completely incompetent bartender. Also the bathroom was absolutely disgusting. Horrible experience.

Yelp
Went to a listening party and had a blast!! Special drinks were good and Great service!

Yelp
"IF YOU ARE RACIST ,SEXIST,HOMOPHOBIC,TRANSPHOBIC OR JUST AN ASSHOLE DON'T COME IN" if you're looking for a tiki bar or anyone who makes tiki drinks or fancy cocktails , this is not your bar! Don't ever come with your high bougie expectation and personality because this is not your bar. Cha Cha lounge is your classic legendary bar with legendary guests. The bartenders can smell your bullsh*t from a mile away so don't bring it here. With the legendary only original colored Photo Booth left in America (I think) it's a must when passing by.
google avatar

Sergio D.

Yelp
I get here early most of the time to get a good spot and to enjoy my drinks. This location also has a photo Booth that I have used. The photo Booth could take a while to print because it's a different type of print. Check this spot out.
google avatar

Jorge F.

Yelp
Cool bartenders Leelah, osiris Jason and all the rest yall are dope! Great prices and they make u feel welcome always

Valerie B.

Yelp
If there were zero stars that's what I would rate this bunk ass moldy ass Crusty ass bar .. the worst bartenders that all suck at making drinks skip customers to serve their friends and then when you question why they keep skipping you. They tell you now you have to wait longer. Worst bar I've ever been to.
google avatar

Amanda G.

Yelp
Don't appricate the bartenders being entitled to tips saying they won't serve you if you don't tip like are you serious? I brought up the fact that I took the other bartender, and he literally said to me it doesn't matter because it's not going in my pocket. had me back a bunch of ones and expecting me a tip, but his service was rude!! I don't even get tips at my job. Let alone would I tip for rude service

Yelp
Man what can I say, me and the homies love this place. Very chill, beer and friend and game the homies had a blast. Between getting inspiration on our next snare or drinking a couple pints the homies were uniquely inspired.

Karolina B.

Yelp
Had a really unfortunate experience at Cha Cha Lounge. We arrived and the line was very long outside, which is totally fine- but when we got in it was almost empty inside so it felt odd that the line was so long. Unfortunately the staff were very cold and unfriendly to us which is a shame because we waited patiently to be let in. Once inside it smelled very musty and moldy. My group only lasted one drink (which was very mediocre) and we had to leave right after. We went across the street and it was a much better experience
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
I went with 15 friends to Cha Cha Lounge as I live around the area. We walked over and got in line. The bounce let in the first eight people, and the rest of my friends and I had to wait some more to get in. That is fine; no complaints. One of my friends who was let inside the bar came back outside and began talking to the Bouncer to ask to let me in. He waved me over and told the Bouncer how we were celebrating my birthday; the Bouncer refused to look me in the eye but told me, "I don't give a fuck that it is your birthday." I was taken aback as I had not said a word to the Bouncer yet, and he had already begun saying curse words in my direction. I asked him why he was being rude, and he proceeded to explain that we were annoying him despite my saying close to nothing to the man. I went back in line and waited. The Bouncer then let five people in, who cut to the front of the line and made me and my friends wait for an additional 20+ minutes. I asked him why he let those people in front of me, and he said, "do not tell me how to do my job," while again not looking me in the eye. After waiting back in line, I did not say a word to the Bouncer, and he let me in after an extended period. Once I entered the bar, it was dirty and minimal people were inside. I brought the largest group of people into the bar, and everyone in the group mentioned how they were bored and did not know why more people were not let in. We proceeded to leave to go to a MUCH BETTER BAR IN THE AREA CALLED ZEBULON. After leaving, I approached the Bouncer, asked for his name, and thanked him, at the very least, for letting me in despite getting annoyed with me. He still refused to look me in the eye, told me to leave, and cursed me out in front of my friends. I was walking down Glendale Blvd., and the Bouncer still screamed curse words toward me. I have never felt so uncomfortable or unwanted at a bar, and I found it highly abnormal that the Bouncer refused to look me in the eyes despite looking and talking to my friendy. My friends and I noted that I was the only visibly Hispanic person in my friend group. Additionally, a video went viral of two people having sex at Cha Cha lounge, and no staff did anything about it in said video. Cha Cha Lounge is a dirty bar that lacks fun and has unbelievably rude bouncers. DO NOT GO. SAVE YOUR MONEY FOR SOMETHING ELSE.

Rachel M.

Yelp
Forever my favorite bar in LA. Always has nice bartender & inside is super cool. The photo booth is probably my favorite & the vending machine always has funny / random / unique items.

Yelp
Great local place to grab a beer with friends. Good vibes and good prices. Tiki style atmosphere
google avatar

Hosanna F.

Yelp
I really thought I would love this place based on how busy I have seen it every time I pass by, but it was just not it. The vibe was just not there for me. Maybe it's just the typical Silver Lake hipster vibe, but my friend and I were uncomfortable by some other customers giving odd looks to us. As far as the drinks, also not good. Drinks were way, way too strong that it was unenjoyable. I really tried to give this place a fair chance but it just couldn't do it for me.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow, my first time coming here. I really like it! Inexpensive drinks at $7.00 regardless if it's a beer or a cocktail. Yup, I had a couple of Cranberry Juice with Vodka mixed drinks. The alcohol was a bit on the weak side, as it did nothing for me even after a couple of them. I felt invincible thinking I built my tolerance back up (not). Yes, I'm a weak sauce nowadays when it comes to alcohol. One pure mixed drink or a shot can make me tipsy. Anyhow, people who comes here are laid-back from what I saw. Very casual place with old skool hip hop music pumping, that brings back flashbacks and reminiscent of my school days. Yes, I dare to say that I use to drink and party a lot more. I guess less energy is catching up to me as I transition into being a good boy. Lol. The drinks are inexpensive in my perspective. The cost of the same drinks elsewhere can easily be x2. I like it! The lounge is not big at all. I feel a little claustrophobic walking around inside as it was quite full. Parking is tough to find. I was lucky to keep my car at the same place I was at earlier and just walked across the street. Do come with friends to make the night enjoyable. A bit too loud to talk, but rather try to lip sync the old skool songs, and put your groove on. Lol. Cheers!

Bob J.

Yelp
I never thought that I'd have to write a review especially for this place I love coming here but last nights events were super unprofessional and aggressive. I get that's it's busy and I don't mind taking all the time it needs to get a drink I can be patient but the bartender dressed as a Skelton apparently he's the manger from what I was told. Was taking shots after shots and was clearly drunk, they then started screaming at a customer then grabbed her head and licked her forehead in front of everyone that was watching. you could see how uncomfortable she was when that happened. As he was next getting other people drinks and finally came to us, we asked for water and two white claws. He just looked smiles and said you know what I'm gonna make you wait longer and turned his back on us and started helping others. We were super confused and uncomfortable from what we saw. That is suppose to be a professional safe environment and he made it super uncomfortable for the people that saw what he did and how he acted.
google avatar

Misho T.

Yelp
On my first night in this city I had clearly underestimated I found myself at the Cha Cha Lounge, an evening decidedly fated The bartender generously filled my cup and we cheer'sd over a big shot What an awesome fella but when I saw the photo booth, I knew I hit the jackpot Finally, a place in which bleeding red lighting looks nothing near frightening So, if you happen to dig dive bars and board games, this is where it's happening A ceiling mosaic of piñatas, sombreros and art only a hipster could dream of and the raddest of people, who knows, one night there and you might even fall in love.
google avatar

Lee B.

Yelp
On the 1st Tuesday of the month, there is often a free big screen video game night, with a DJ, along with being able to buy great drinks, and hangout. A Super divey , hipstered out joint Oh yeah and these random hipster chicks (customers)where taking pictures of us while we were gaming, (weirdos), without our permission. So I snapped a photo of her in the act, the guy seemed happy though, I wasn't. Don't snap me unless you're a hot single female, & we are exchanging info to meet up

Yelp
Film photobooth still works and one of the few color film ones around. Grab a drink and shoot some pix in all its analog glory.
google avatar

Stacie M.

Yelp
Standard little dive bar. Parked in the evening in the bank parking lot across the street and walked over. Sign on the door states not to enter without a mask, everyone walks in and then takes off their mask. Sat night at 9pm the bar was relatively full, but not crowded. It was dark inside, with lots of red lights hanging around for mood lighting. Ordered 2 beers at the bar, and walked towards the back, all of the tables in the front were taken, but the back section was open so we grabbed a table back there. Shortly after that most of those tables were taken too. There's a tiny photo booth for $3 which was fun and silly, don't expect a good pic though haha. And then 2 foosball tables to play on. Overall a nice place to stop in for a casual drink with some friends.

Yelp
Waste of time coming here. Watch out for the parking enforcement, they ticket nightly.
google avatar

Isabella N.

Yelp
My boyfriend said this was like being in the back rooms of a Hot Topic. Imagine being cliquey in your 30s, everyone in this bar will star at you like you're an unwanted maggot and you will be ignored by the bartender. One of the most bizarre experiences in a while. Sorry I wasn't drooling over Green Day when I was in middle school like the patrons here...cool lighting though. The music sucks. Boo tomato tomato
google avatar

Trisha W.

Yelp
Wow this place is still open! It's cute. Definitely not the place you goto for dancing. It's a lounge. So like it's a great place to lounge. But oddly enough the music is always too loud like at a dance club level... maybe they're confused. It's a cute place that's been around for over a decade and for good reasons. Cheap delicious drinks, big group friendly, casual but edgy, cozy and cute. Can't complain. Why only four stars and not five?! Well I think they could hire a valet service that would help out a lot. Parking is a joke in this neighborhood. I'd be happy to pay for valet and I'm sure others would too. Try the food truck that's parked either nearby or right outside. The food is amazing!
google avatar

Julienne L.

Yelp
This is a neighborhood bar me and my friends grew up with, back when we were too young to use our own ID's. Not much has changed, really. Still has same dim red lights, divey vibes and a mixed crowd. The poor reviews here are from bridge and tunnel people or LA transplants who have no idea how and why they made it to the east side. Drinks are cheap, but sometimes it's crowded here. before sundown, they've got great happy hour specials. One of the main attractions here is the classic photobooth: it's perfect for making memories for your fridge with your friends or hot date. Don't return here if you weren't feeling it, this place simply wasn't meant for you. P.s. I saw Kid cudi entering as I was exiting here years ago and I. just. stood. there.

Yelp
Cha is back a better than ever I was worried that they wouldn't survive the pandemic since they stayed closed the entire time but yesterday as I pulled up, there was a healthy line wrapped around the corner. This place reminds me of my old Toronto haunt Baby Huey and when I moved to LA, I was worried I wouldn't find a place like it. But Cha won me over and pretty soon I became a regular. The music is always well curated and is an eclectic mix of hip hop, trap, punk, rock, funk and whatever else the DJ feels like playing. Each night has a different feel (and I know some nights are exclusively dedicated to punk) so it's worth stopping by on different nights to see what you like. The crowd does skew young (or maybe I'm just getting old ) but I really like their vibe. The people are beautiful and they look like extras from the Euphoria. There's no dress code other than showing off your personality so feel free to come casual or full on glam. People here seem very friendly and accepting, and there's a good skate crowd here so if you skate in LA, you'll definitely find your tribe. Also, see if you can spot the elderly East Asian man that's always there. He's never spoken to me but I wonder if a) his wife has sadly passed and he comes here to forget his troubled or b) he comes here to get away from his wife. Ew, how heteronormative of me. Anyways.... The decor is like...tiki meets Cinco de Mayo meets like your grandpa's tchotchkes but it totally works to create this cozy, intimate setting. Oh, this one time, Dakota Johnson rented out the place for her bday and Dakota Johnson has great taste (check out her home in Architecture Digest) so yeah, you can trust that this place is nice. The drinks are cheap and strong, and the bartenders stick to the classics so if you want a bougie cocktail that involves muddling herbs or a dash of cinnamon or I don't f*cking know what, maybe save that for WeHo. Idk. I come here to get lit not to show off my sOpHiStIcAtEd palate. Jason the bartender is super nice and always has a smile. He is a friendly face I always look forward to seeing. Same with Joe (who I believe is the owner). The other bartenders whose names I unfortunately don't know are all great too. Come here radiating good vibes and an open mind when I comes to mingling with people. There's really no better spot in LA.

Robert M.

Yelp
This is my favorite bar in the Bay Area. To put it simply: the bar tenders know exactly what they're doing here. Every drink I've had here is reminiscent of something you'd get in a classy New York old school type lounge minus the crazy prices. Also the crowd is friendly and a mix of young and old. I love this place but I don't bring just anyone here. I am selfish and I don't want to potentially see people I don't like here.

Brit T.

Yelp
Locals hang out dive bar. It's cute and kind of tiki. They typically have a themed dj each night. You can definitely find all types of interesting people here.

Yelp
This is just an update. I haven't gone to Cha Cha's for quite some time after our favorite bartenders either decided to switch their shifts or were no longer working there (Collin and Andy, if I recall correctly) and when the COVID shutdowns happened. Anyway, I popped into this spot again after a long hiatus on 6/18/2021 at around 7:30pm and I vaguely recall that there used to be a sign beside the door that had a skull head with a cowboy hat and an arrow pointing to the door for Cha Cha's but didn't see it that evening. The door's color also changed to this plain matte silver and some writing on the wall that said something of the sort that if you're racist, trans-phobic, etc, to please do not enter. Frankly, in all the prior years that I've been going there, I really don't remember that writing on the wall being there but I digress. No security guard at this time so I pulled the door and it was the same dim red glow for lighting inside the entire space, just as I remembered it. I asked the bartender for their business hours and they are open Monday thru Sunday 5pm-2am. Otherwise, the booths that line the wall to the right of the entrance are still there and the 'tiki' island where you order booze is still there. The new bartender seemed friendly enough but I didn't stay. Heck of a lot better experience upon entry from here than The Red Lion Tavern across the street. I checked out their website and I think it's safe to say that the info there is pretty accurate so far as business hours go, days of operation and happy hour pricing. There's a tiny parking lot that's easily missed if you're not paying attention because there's no signage anywhere. The entire building is a non-descript black building. I'm thinking maybe 5 cars can fit at any single time. 10, if you double park or maybe park on the side of the driveway. The driveway in and out is wide enough to accommodate two cars going in and out both directions so if you park up really close to the wall, I think it should be fine. Otherwise, you'll have to hunt for metered parking or maybe park at one of the shopping plaza's or bank parking lots (citibank or bank of America) and walk over. Metered parking along Glendale Blvd or any of the smaller side streets seem to be 1-hour parking, 8am-8pm, so it may be best to arrive at 8:01pm so it becomes free for the rest of the night. All in all, while I didn't stay, I think I'll definitely be back. Maybe next time, it'd be better idea to take an uber or lyft from like...the Denny's parking lot on Fletcher Drive and San Fernando or a similarly large and free parking lot close by. The parking situation there is just really bad so do plan ahead before driving over and thinking you'll be able to find parking on the streets because chances are good that youll have a hard time hunting for a parking spot.

Yelp
Had a great time at Cha Cha, the tiki bar is nice, the bartenders quite attentive, beers are moderately priced which is perfect for an evening of partying with friends. We had such a cool time here, the foosball tables are pretty damn cool especially when you find cool peeps too to hang and play with you - a good friendly match! The place starts to get packed and hoppin close to 10, it has a mix crowd of young and old and the place feels like your friendly Neighborhood booze spot, its pretty wild haha!

Yelp
This place was pretty fun and happening, but it got pretty crowded the night my friends and I here there. The music isn't really my taste, but I still had a very fun time overall and the vibe of the place was very lively. We had to wait in a line to get in, and the line didn't move all that fast. Still, had a fun time overall.

Yelp
I used to come here weekly before I moved away. I'm back and it's like I never left. If you're coming to Cha Cha you have to go when Lila is there. She is a gem and made our night.

Yelp
The dude at the front is on a major power trip. You can tell he's majorly under the influence & makes you stand behind a rope when no one is inside.. we saw now one is inside. He was extremely rude & would let randoms in, but yelled at us when we asked a basic question while he sat high af. Not worth it bc of him. Wouldn't even give it 1 star.

Yelp
Here on a Thursday night, door man is saying it's at capacity. 4 friends sitting inside waiting saying no ones in there.
