Cha Kee

Really wanted some food similar to HK’s cha chan tang and this was the closest I could find. Rice noodle rolls were drenched in sauce, too sweet for my liking. The toast was typical and the milk tea needed more syrup, which we were given to add to our liking. Cream custard baos felt a bit too stiff, but flavorful. However, like other reviews found, service was lacking and the food felt uncompromising.

It was nice at 11:30 am on a Thursday. Barely anyone there, but it got busier at 12 pm. Their food was good. Highly recommend the Fried Bean Curd and Pork over Rice. Nice and saucy. My friend got the Fish and Chicken fried rice.

Food was awesome but service was horrible after I had to ask for a check and left a 25 percent tip the staff ignored me and all sat in the back the guy who brought a check was rude never thanking me or saying good bye was just focused on his tip. Also the boxes and clutter at entrance take away the experience of dining room and the shrimp I was served was in a shell full of excrement so Diggin through sauce and trying to scrape poop out of shrimp was a big failure on the baked pasta over spaghetti.

Cha Kee is a HK Style Cha Chaan Teng located in the heart of NYC's Chinatown. They didn't have any physical menus when I went, however I assume you could ask for them if you don't have a mobile device. The service is quick and efficient, much easier to order things if you know Cantonese, but English works fine as well. The atmosphere is like a HK style cafe, with some big tables and smaller tables spread throughout. It would be best to come here with a party of around 3-5. The food was great. I came during brunch, so it was focused on HK style breakfast foods. The Porkchop over fries was crispy and not too oily. The Rice Cakes in XO Sauce had both a sweetness to it that was complimented well with the peanut sauce. The only thing that was kind of eh was the Salt & Pepper Vegetables. It was a little too salty for the taste, and it ended up overwhelming the dish. Overall a good place to visit if one of the other Cha Chaan Tengs are too crowded.

Having lived in Hong Kong for a few years before, I really miss real cha chan tang style food. Very difficult to find this authentic style of restaurant in London. Good portion sizes and authentic flavour and service too! I had the HK style milk tea, steamed rice rolls and the cold ice tea too (with ice in the bucket). Really brought back some wonderful memories! I’ll recommend this place to anybody missing real HK style food.

7/30/2024. This place is going through a transition, has 3 names and sells 2 kinds of food. The HK style milk tea is just right without having to adjust the sugar. The Macao Curry Chicken Rice has the classic flavor with cheese on top. The curry beef point was disappointing. I did not try the Si Chuan dishes.

Great Singaporean rice noodles. Good beef with tomato. I always get the iced milk tea here. It’s never too busy which is why it’s my go to.

As someone who grew up in the Canton region, I don’t recommend this restaurant if you're looking for authentic dim sum. The fried rice was served cold, and the curry fish balls had an odd taste. The service was equally disappointing, with rude and unhelpful staff. Overall, a very poor experience.

Overall (4.5/5): This was my second time here and a dramatic improvement from a year ago. They changed their seating layout and the space is very clean! I'd say this is competitive to Kong Shik Tong just around the corner for a much shorter wait. Simple, comfort Hong Kong dishes done well. We got there 10 minutes before the kitchen closed and they still sat us and food came out in less than 5 minutes. Almost everything was hot, flavorful, and great portion sizes. Only dish I wouldn't re-order is the Portuguese curry fried rice (not pictured), because it wasn't hot enough nor was it as flavorful as the one at Kong Shik Tong. Aside from that dish, every plate was clean and between 3 people that didn't even come hungry. Iced HK milk tea (not pictured) but would recommend getting as well!

I came here a few times and I think the speed of which the food is made is incredible and quick. This is extremely important for a hong kong style restaurant. Especially the breakfast combo, came out within 5 mins from order. Price for the breakfast was also great for the value and quality of food I was getting. We ordered 3 breakfast combo, each with a drink), and it was under $30 dollar after tax and tips. Favorite was the pineapple bun with butter, can really go wrong with that! I think this price cannot go wrong. The second time I went for lunch was okay in terms of food quality. I had beef brisket noodle, which came out dry and hard to chew on. Also, their hk style french toast doesn't have peanut butter in it, it was just plain toast with butter and syrup on top. I would prefer the peanut butter, maybe something I had to request specifically for next time!

This place is the definition of OKAY. Service is good-ish, food was mixed for me - some dishes I've had way better for cheaper in Chinatown and others were standout. It's confusing walking in here when you've never been because there's nobody to greet you and I guess the front part of the restaurant is for "to go" beverages. We stood there for awhile before I decided I needed to go to the back by the kitchen to grab a server and let him know that we would like to be seated please. Once we were seated, they had an advanced system where you scan a QR code to order - it's nice and seems futuristic, yet they still only take cash for tax evasion purposes. We ordered the beef curry over rice, baked spaghetti with meat sauce, and the fried mantou and the HK milk tea. Of those, the fried mantou and the HK milk tea were 10 stars!!! To die for. The other entrees: the beef curry was just a smidge better than okay and the spaghetti tasted super "porky". I wasn't a huge fan at all. After we were seated and ordered, the service was much better and I felt servers were very nice and attentive! Overall, this place is very comme si comme sa

My mom and I dropped in for an early breakfast today, Sunday morning around 9 am. We were seated immediately. Oddly, our waiter only gave us two napkins, one set of chopsticks, fork, and knife, for two people to use. ??lol?? Odd service practice. Otherwise this would be a 5 star rating. Delicious, fresh, and affordable food!

I just popped into just get tea, I was told they only accept cash payment. I saw the receipt it said "TIP". ?? I was ordering just tea at the cashier and charged tip? (I've realized....after A cashier gave me a receipt. ) So if you're going there you'll need to look at the receipt. Hong Kong style tea was pretty good, workers aren't judge mental at all. they're pretty friendly and they let me stay..like Starbucks style. I was told they close at 9pm not 10pm. 45mott street walking distances from Canal st station.

This is my first time in Cha Chan Tang. I heard it is one of those long-running restaurants that have been in Chinatown for a long time, so I was really excited to try it out Food: 5/5 Because there are a lot of noodles and over-the-rice dishes, I think it's always better to come to this type of restaurant to order individual dishes than share the food with everyone. The food is great in my opinion. Very traditional HK cafe dishes. You can expect you get what you pay for. Honestly, if I lived close by, I would probably order takeout from here a lot haha Service: 5/5 It was overall a chill day at the restaurant, so we got the full attention of the waiter. The waiters constantly came up to make sure we have enough water and didn't even try to kick us out when we finished out food which I always appreciate.

Food was ok, small portions. Got the curry beef rice, baked pork chop rice, flavors were adequate. We got the crispy baby bok choy, it was a mistake. We were expecting stir fry bokchoy, but it was almost like eating dry seaweed, we left most of it untouched.

Still the best and smooth HK milk tea with perfect amount of sweetness imho! The milk tea is served in a bottle inside a bucket of ice to prevent dilution if the milk tea. So thoughtful! They now offer a to-go can. Friendly service and cozy place! Will def come back.

Ordered some food for lunch takeout. It's kind of confusing cause this place is also Cha Kee. I thought Cha Chan Tang had closed and rebranded or something. I ordered the beef chow fun, and cold lemon honey. My friend ordered the rice noodle with peanut and hoisin sauce and the lemon honey tea. I LOVED the beef chow fun. So much wok hei smoky flavor. Exactly how I like my chow fun. The rice noodles with sauce was good too. The drinks were a miss for me only because they tasted strongly of cinnamon. Both of the drinks. I'm assuming what happened was maybe they made a cinnamon drink beforehand and it contaminated our drinks? Was odd.

Very solid selection of affordable and savory traditional Hong Kong style cafe dishes. The serving size was generous and service was fast. We ordered a few staples such as the milk toast, turnip cake and rice noodles. Everything is carb heavy so expect a yummy food coma.

Great place for a Hong Kong style breakfast, they have many of the staples from macaroni soup to yin yang tea, and more. Personally got the peanut rice rolls with a lo mai gai with the HK milk tea, delicious and would recommend. Tried a few of other's dishes and those were wonderful as well, really can't go wrong with ordering any of the dishes here.

This used to be my go to spot for HK cafe food. It has been years since I've been here and it looks like they rebranded to Cha Kee. The menu seems to be a lot smaller than in the past. They also renovated the interior and there are now two (spacious) bathrooms separated by gender. The food and drinks are still good and a nice spot to meet friends for a quick meal.

My favorite little hong kong cafe in Chinatown! Their staff is kind and welcoming. The food comes out quickly and is delicious. I love their baked noodles and rice. This is always my go-to place for baked noodles in NYC. Their pork chop baked noodle is my favorite item on their menu. It is affordable and delicious. They offer a large portion of the pork and they are generous with the cheese which keeps me coming back. They are taking COVID precautions with masks and limiting indoor dining. However, they are offering limited indoor seating in their little shop. tl;dr - best baked noodles and very affordable!

The meal of a lifetime. Could not give higher praises. This cafe was like a slice of home for my roommate and I. After a really rough week, we were in desperate need for a pick-me-up, and where better to turn than to food? We got the chicken wings in coke sauce, pineapple bun with salted butter, baked chicken Portuguese style, and Hong Kong milk teas. My roommate's grandmother used to make the chicken wings in coke sauce for her as a child. She said that Cha Chan Tang's chicken wings lived up to her expectations, which is quite impressive. I also thought they were delicious. The wings had a great umami flavor without any of the oiliness. OH GOD, the pineapple bun. It's everything you want and more. The bun itself was so incredibly fresh and soft, and the salted butter just brings it to a level of perfection that I will be chasing for the rest of my life. My roommate and I let out blissful sighs with every bite we took. If I had to recommend one item as a must-have, it would be this. The baked chicken Portuguese style was also heavenly. It tastes almost like a yellow curry over rice. The flavors were so dynamic and rich! We asked to get it over fried rice rather than plain jasmine rice, which I think also added to its flavor profile. Lastly, the classic Hong Kong milk tea. I will always, always get my drinks iced, even in the dead of winter. It just tastes better that way, no? Anyways, we got iced Hong Kong milk teas, because it would be blasphemy to visit a HK cafe and not get their milk tea! I hadn't had HK milk tea in quite a bit, and my face absolutely melted with my first sip. It was absolutely excellent. The mixture of tea and condensed milk mixed so perfectly, I felt like I was getting punched in the face, in a good way though!!! Definitely check this place out if you're need of some delicious Hong Kong cuisine.

I visited Cha Chan Tang over the weekend for some Hong Kong style tea and toast. We were seated in the back of the restaurant in a booth, and indoor seating was in full swing but it still felt safe and everyone was distanced appropriately. We just came for some tea and toast, so I didn't try any of the savory bites/entrees from the menu. I ordered the cold Hong Kong style tea with ice. I thought this was verrrry very tasty. For anyone who enjoyed thai iced tea but finds it too sweet - this is for you. It had a very strong tea flavor while still being creamy. We also ordered Hong Kong peanut butter toast, which is basically peanut butter between wonder bread battered and deep fried then drizzled with condensed milk. It's tasty - but not necessarily life changing. Service here was pretty slow and it took a while to get the servers attention. I'll definitely be back for some cold Hong Kong tea over ice!

The food is over oily and salty The service is the worst I've ever seen. They force people to pay in cash because they said they want to avoid paying tax. They also forced me to pay minimum 18% tips because they say their waiters depend on tips to make a living. The ambiance is not good because they have no toilet paper left as I was using the restroom and the tables are oily and they didn't wipe it for us. So how are you gonna expect tips if you offer such a terrible service?!!!!???

I've never been to an hk cafe before even though I've had hk breakfast, so this was exciting! I'd also never had rolled-up rice rolls either. They look like ddukbokki but feel lighter to eat and take in the flavors better since there are so many layers for the sauces to absorb into. Both steamed and stirfried were great (the latter almost like chowfun). The pineapple bun came toasty warm and tasted pretty standard - I do prefer a cold butter slice in the middle though, whereas with this one the butter just melted completely into the bread. In any case, it paired so well with the hk milk tea (I got iced because it was sweltering) which was strong and sweet from condensed milk. We had actually just ordered the stirfried one and they gave us the steamed ones by mistake, but they let us keep it. Little did we know those extra rice rolls would be our saving grace as we waited starving in the Megabus line after sprinting to get there on time!

Came here with a friend of mine who is from Hong Kong. It has very chill, casual vibes and is very very cheap. Really enjoyed all the food and the service was very great as well! We ordered via an app and the food came quickly. We got curry fish balls (A01), steamed rice rolls with mix sauce (A03), curry triangles (A11), and the fried egg noodles with shredded pork (F15). My fav was most definitely the steamed rice rolls, they were absolute peanut heaven. Next fav from there had to be the curry triangles, which were like Asian empanadas. We also got the HK style milk tea which I honestly wasn't wowed by and probably could've skipped. Would def return!

Keeping it real out here Our first outdoor dining experience together since COVID started. The seats were across the street from the restaurant, a little strange but i didn't mind something different. The wait was a bit longer but hey, that's how we do it. We picked the more "exotic" authentic dishes including duck tongue and other stuff, milk tea and thai tea as our drinks. Milk tea was bitter and good, thai tea not so much. Still a fun experience overall.

Cha Chan Tang is one of the few restaurants open for pick up and delivery during COVID-19 in Chinatown. We were there at about 12:30pm on a Sunday without waiting but there was a line after we got our meal at 12:45pm. We ordered Chicken Wing with Coke, Vegetable with Beef Brisket and Fried Noodle with Satay Beef for $21 with tax and no tip needed. Their food was decent with reasonable price and great portion. We even can't finish all at once and had leftover for dinner. The only thing we would like to complain is they take cash only. We understand cash only is really common in Chinatown but we have health concern during COVID-19.

Chan Chan Tang's a great place to get a cheap, no frills, HK-style breakfast platter. The menu has so many options that the word-count could equate to a short essay. Four of us ordered family-style and had about six dishes to share. I'd recommend any of their Hong Kong rice or noodle dishes. We also had chicken wings with coke sauce, butter toast with condensed milk, and two orders of egg sandwiches. We originally ordered spam and egg sandwiches, but there was a mixup with our order, so we ended up getting two complimentary egg sandwiches. We spent $10/person for our meal. I'd choose Cha Chan Tang over any overpriced American brunch place anytime.

Story of the restaurant is on the wall and interesting decor - using cups & saucers for the columns Food: Appetizer: Salt & pepper chicken wings - crispy and good :) Shredded pork with preserved veggies Mixed mushrooms with beef over rice - enjoyable Toast with butter and condensed milk - saved for last -- think of it as dessert :) Drinks: Soda (Wow! $2 for a can of soda) and Hong Kong style iced milk tea Restroom in the back.

I ordered the baked pork chop with tomato sauce and it came out pretty fast. The sauce was decent but the pork chop was just okay. I like the one at Kong Sik Tang a little more. It wasn't too crowded when I went around 5pm on a Sunday, and the bathroom was really clean.

Cha Chan Tang has been a fixture in Chinatown for over a decade, offering Hong Kong comfort cuisine. The menu isn't particularly healthy, but they serve a wide variety of green and black teas, and mixed aloe vera drinks. We generally visit Cha Chan Tang after dinner with friends for non-alcoholic drinks and to shoot the breeze, because of the restaurant's slightly larger capacity and slightly later hours compared to nearby cafes. Cha Chan Tang can get crowded in the evenings, but seating is generally available during lunch hours.

3.5/5 Comfort Hong Kong/Canto food at its best, where the staff will just plop it down in front of you and please don't expect it to look nice. Also, you can cook this, and your mama can cook this for you - it's that simple, but dammit, somehow it tastes even better when eaten outside -.- Condensed Milk Butter Toast ($2): suchhhh a classic! Must order every time, just because I really miss that warm, fluffy, sweetened pieces of bread. Satay Beef Ho Fun ($6): Idk why I ordered this in soup form because the satay beef lost its satay-ness immediately after being dunked in soup. Pass. Pork Ramen Stir Fry ($8.50): dude, who can resist stir fry ramen?? These are the packages of instant noodles just wok-fried with other ingredients. Saucy, salty, and delicious. Ordered it on both occasions Baked Pork Chop Over Rice ($7.25): these baked rice dishes are just sooo good! I love the cheesy baked rices more, but this was delicious as well. The meat was a little on the fattier side, but meat itself is tender, flavorful, and tender. While I always enjoy this, the ones at XO Kitchen is noticeably tastier Curry Fishballs: when the fishball craving hits and the street carts are gone... Calamari: baby calamari that's not too tasty. Skippp Yakult with Jelly: they definitely added enough yakult that the drink wasn't diluted. Only thing was that it was too sweet for me

Spacious Less people in the morning! Reasonable price Quick food to eat in the morning! Cool vibe PS: The bathroom could be cleaner for customers though!

A friend of mine came across the same tik tok video that highly recommended Cha Chan Tang. So we decided to check it out because it looked very promising especially since it had an expansive menu. We ordered milk tea, coke wings, fish balls, and the fried buns w/condensed milk. I intended on ordering the fried shrimp noodle dish but I think mI may have requested incorrectly because I ended up getting a rice egg noodle dish with shrimp. I am not a huge fan of extra runny egg but I decided to give it a try. Overall the noodle dish was ok but I didn't finish it. As for the other items, I was not too thrilled about all of the food. The milk tea was bitter and the wings were pretty generic and lack flavored. I would say I really only enjoyed the fried buns and fish balls. The service wasn't the best either but I still appreciated the servers.

Not sure why this place is marked as closed on Yelp, but I've been ordering food from there via Uber Eats whenever the weather gets cold, or when I'm in the mood for some soup, among other stuff. They have the best Hong kong styled Borsch Soup, hands down, instantly warming up your soul! I usually get the beef or shrimp with egg sauce with fried rice with the brosch soup as my go-to work-from-home brunch. However, it's not quite the 5-star experience for me just yet as the restaurant, at times, can be inconsistent in terms of forgetting an item or two on my order or not packing the soup as neatly, which led to a significant amount of leaking transit. Overall, I will continue to support this little gem in Chinatown in the form of takeout and will recommend, especially, the broach soup.

This dish was done to PERFECTION. The tomato flavors with the crispy pork and fried rice all came together very authentically. And it's super cheap ($8.50!). Although I will say, the serving size is lacking which notches this down. I wish it was 2x bigger although it's so cheap that I could just order 2 next time. Only other thing thing notching this place down is the service, was pretty slow to get our food to us and one dish was finished cooking WAY before all our other food so it was super awkward waiting for the rest of our food while one person had it all already. Great place and cash only! They recently moved - it's just right next door to the left if you're facing the old location.

This is one of my go-to Hong Kong cafes, better than the ones in most of the SF Bay Area and Irvine. It honestly reminded me of Hong Kong with their nicely cooked baked pork chop rice. Sauce was tangy, and rice was cheesy and slightly crisp. Everything is nicely priced and well portioned so that you don't have to take home leftovers! I usually cannot finish a baked pork chop rice dish without leftovers due to its heaviness, but I'm glad it is portioned well here. The iced Hong Kong style milk tea was great for a hot day as well.

Hk cafe in Chinatown. I love hk cafe for breakfast so was excited to try this place. Prices are reasonable for the area... bfast for 4 was just over $20! Dishes are smaller than at hk cafes that I've visited elsewhere (not in ny area) but still filling, especially after the milk tea. Got the satay vemicili which was delicious. Meat had a good satay taste and the soup was nice. We managed to seat immediately but there was a wait when we left (after 10 on a Sunday morning).

Service was a bit slow, but the food is very authentic and I felt like I was right back in Hong Kong! Highly recommend the Baked Chicken Rice Portuguese Style. It's slightly sweet/spicy flavor mixed with the onions over steaming rice is amazing and you will def be full!! It's cash only here, so be sure you have that on you :)

I was contemplating leaving a review here since there wasn't much to say about the food but I felt compelled to write one after such a horrible experience with the service. We waited at least 20 minutes just for someone to take our order. As we were waiting for our food, we couldnt help but notice at least 2 other tables having the same experience as us. They waited long, and even as they tried calling a server's attention, the servers seemed to have great expertise in ignoring tables. They walked past several times, just as they had done with us, and kept doing other 'important' things. My two cents: either they are very disorganized and/or are very inefficient. In any case, there wasn't much else to say here because we would have walked out if we had to wait any longer to be served.

This is a Hong Kong style cafe serving comfort food such as instant noodles, baked spaghetti and appetizers like curried fish balls, etc. Iced lemon tea is my go-to drink, I usually request it with less ice and less sweet. Occasionally, I would order their noodle soup with the thick vermicelli noodles. Try their baked dishes and appetizers if you have never been exposed to food from a Hong Kong teahouse. Do not come here to expect Tsui Wah (a famous Cha Chaan Tang chain in Hong Kong) style dishes or anything special, but this place would definitely do it if you miss food or drinks from a Hong Kong style cafe.

3.5 stars. Cha chaan tengs, or Hong Kong-style cafes, are one of my favorite things about Hong Kong. This place, with its menu and prices, does a commendable job of replicating that experience for the New York crowd. The decor is also pretty fantastic, whether it's the walls displaying a window-like view of Hong Kong roads, the stacked-cup columns, or the bottle lights. The food isn't exactly stellar, but it's comforting and makes me feel at home. It gives me a sense of nostalgia for a place I never actually lived or grew up in, but have strong identity ties to. My go-to dishes are the baked pork chop with tomato sauce over spaghetti, or the spam and egg instant noodle soup. The breaded pork chop comes in slices, and parts are a little too chewy/fatty for me, but it's seasoned well. The tomato sauce is really more like ketchup, but hey, that's the Hong Kong way, and it has an interesting flavor that I've grown to crave. The noodle soup tends to be a bit too salty, but the spam is perfectly grilled and the egg is a nice sunny side up. The baked Portuguese-style chicken and rice dish is decent, as is the squid in black bean sauce on rice. Skip the curry fish balls, the sauce is kinda watery. If you want a drink, always go for the Hong Kong-style milk tea. Their most popular one is the cold, bottled, Hong Kong-style milk tea. It arrives in a bucket of ice to keep it cool without diluting that deliciously strong tea flavor.

Was staying in Manhattan for a couple of days and wanted to have authentic Chinese food. What better place then t head over to Chinatown. Lookup up a couples places on YELP and couldn't really decide on any. We did happen to walk down Mott St and found Cha Chang Tang. We entered and were told they only accept cash although a bit surprised, we didn't have a problem paying cash. I ordered the Fried Instant Noodle with Singapore Style, along with appetizers and other dishes. Food was good, and flavorful, even though place was busy. Our food came out rather quickly. I'm surprised this place has so many negative reviews. I have already bookmarked this place so next time we're in Manhattan, we can swing by this great place.

If you're looking for a no frills café, this is the place. Cha Chan Tang is decorated with what is reminiscent of the cafés in Hong Kong that serve quick food. It's dark and the furniture is quite old but it blends right in with the Chinatown style. Most would describe the food as simply HK comfort food and I would agree. The food served here is different from its neighbors and they would never even consider using macaroni as one of its ingredients. My go-to's include the baked fish filet with garlic sauce and the shark fin soup. The portions are just right for a quick lunch and a nice cup of HK styled coffee is always a nice touch to end the meal. I would recommend for cheap and fast food. Keep in mind that they are cash only!

Cha Chan Tang is terrific for quick bites and group gatherings. The staff is usually helpful and on this particular occasion we had a lot of requests and they were accommodative every time. The ambiance is also very relax amid the hustle and frenetic energy of Chinatown. Now onto the good stuff - what to order! Don't pass on the condensed milk toast and definitely get a milk tea. The toast is among some of the best in the city and unlike other shops, the milk tea isn't submerged in sugar. The rice dishes usually don't disappoint but there are the occasional miss like the one I ordered today. All in all, great go-to for snack and bites!

Ahh this place brings back old memories when I use to hang around Chinatown...I remember lining up for their Hk milk tea because they were one of the few places that made it resembling HK... Visiting again shocked me as I noticed the place has not change, I was even more shocked that they didn't raise their price as their neighbors has changed many times... I ordered the usual: milk tea, shark fin soup, yunan noodles, and house special French toast. Everything was delicious except for the over drenched French toast. Overall still very satisfy as every taste brought back the years of happiness

Food here is not as good as the decor. The baked pork chop spaghetti is the worst I've ever had - it's basically ketchup + corn syrup + sugar + gelatin mixture + more sugar. If you like ketchup flavored jello, you will dig this. My boyfriend basically eats everything and has a zero waste policy and he couldn't even finish his half. No pasta deserves to be a treated this way - sugared up, abandoned, left in the cold with no respect, and eventually in the dumpster.

If you are looking for a place with good food, nice prices, great service, and indoor seating... look no further! Normally, this place would be a solid 4 stars from me but I am giving this place 5 stars for the pandemic! I would love to see more food-sensitive options (more gluten free, more vegan, more vegetarian... I dream of dancing tea eggs in my mouth!!!) Nestled on a side street away from the hustle and bustle of Canal, this cafe is easy to access from the subway and near a beautiful park. There are front door stairs so please be able-bodied. I don't think they have a ramp for wheel chairs or strollers. The inside is energetic, clean, spacious (for this area) and pretty artsy. The food is very affordable. I hear it's pretty authentic too! Twice I've come for breakfast and both times I have not been disappointed! The flavors are different than the usual euro-centric american diet but no worries, they offer our millennial favorite: avocado toast! ;) this must be why I can't afford a house, too busy wasting all my monies on avocado yums! But not this time, friend! I was a "responsible adult" and ordered two noodle dishes instead... the stir-fried noodle was great with sriracha. And the rolled noodle took a little time to get used to... it's different than what I'm used to with a creamy peanut hoisin sauce soup flavor going on! What I appreciate most (next to the indoor dining option on a cold morning...) is the respect for the staff. Customers dining in must do contact tracing and check their temperature. This business has a neat machine where you can put up the palm of your hand to clear your temp! The staff is cheery and the music keeps things lively... it almost feels like normal life (with covid precautions of course.)

Food is good, but during these last three years, the price of takeaway has increased while the takeaway contains lesser food (about a 25% decrease in quantity and 25% increase in pricing during these last three years).

There is usually a wait here. Located on one of the prime busy spot. Restaurant is small. Any party ( 5 and more has to wait much longer since they only have 3 roomier booths at the back. Front tables are small tables. Tables are very close to each other by the wall. Not much privacy if sat along the wall in the front. Pro: - fast service. Actually very fast. All food was served within minutes. - I had milk tea and coffee combo drink. Strong enough. -Price is fair. Portion is fair, not huge - except pork chop rice has two big pieces pork chops. - stir fried udon noodle is tasty Con: -longer wait. I had party of 5. - staff does their job. Not very approachable -salt and pepper chicken wings were sprinkled with hot pepper. It didn't indicate it was spicy on menu. - 碗仔翅 ( sour and spicy soup) was weak. Very watery and nothing like the original. Conclusion: rice and noodles are good. Good milk tea too. Convenient location. Can be crowded. Fair staff service. Especially like the efficiency of food serving speed. Yes. Will return.

Overall, I think the food was really good and the price is cheap in comparison to average NY prices. The service was not great. It took awhile for them to notice us and get our order down. Then, we didn't get water despite telling the later since the beginning and only got it when we were almost finished with the food. It just seemed quite a messy operation with lack of communication for who's in charge of what and who exactly should we ask for stuff. Food: 9/10 Pork Chop with fried rice and tomato sauce - It's definitely more flavorful than other places I've had it and really enjoyed it. 8/10 Soy Sauce Egg Noodles- a staple for HK restaurants and can't go wrong with it but it is oily and fried 3/10 Curry balls - it was just eh like we never tried curry balls so we wanted to order but not anything special and wouldn't order again 1/10 Satay Beef with Egg Noodles - the soup was super salty to the point we just didn't even eat it at all. I don't recommend their soups if all of them use the same base.

This is for the most part what I seek in a Hong Kongnese cafe, but with some lackings that caused me to deduct a few stars. To start with the good: great milky and sweet Hong Kong ni-tza (milk tea). Mantou with condensed milk were greasy, but delicious and sweet. Home style tofu was on point. Service was generally friendly, especially compared to some of their competitors around here. The bad and the medium: turnip cakes (lo bo gau) were deep fried and super oily, without much inherent flavor (and the oil had a bit of a fishy smell). The veg and mushroom noodles had a lot of potential, as the gravy was tasty and the noodles had nice texture. But canned mushrooms are a deal breaker for me and sort of ruined the dish. I would have preferred to pay the same price for the dish with the canned mushrooms just left out. I didn't see cheong fun on the menu, which surprised me, but perhaps I missed it.

I've been eating at Cha Chan Tang since I was in middle school, and I just graduated college. (Yikes! Guess who's growing old?) My to-go order is the satay beef with instant noodle with an iced hong kong style milk tea. The delicious taste has gone a bit down over the years, but it will always be nostalgic to go back to and always be a must-go in Chinatown. This review is about my most recent meal. After living in multiple cities and towns during the past few months, I've been craving some good old comfort food. So, not a surprise, I got the same order. And of course, it was good! PS: I love coming here for breakfast!

Favorite place to get light hk style cafe food. LOVE LOVE LOVE their condensed milk toast! Got swiss sauce chicken for the first time and it tastes just like lu/ soy sauce marinated chicken but the flavor is good. Somehow craving for the baked rice today and they gave me baked noodle first and had to wait for a good 20-30 mins for the correct order! Also, in the realm of bubble tea empire, I cant believe their non sweetened milk tea is still on the top of my list! Would definitely be a come back place! (Have to say they only accepts cash and its kinds annoying)

Came here since I was craving Hong Kong style cafe comfort food. It wasn't busy around 11am so I guess I beat the breakfast rush on a Sunday morning. I ordered the satay beef instant noodle and lemon honey tea. The instant noodle took quite a while to come even though it wasn't that busy. It did however meet my classic satay beef recipe found in most HK style cafe so that was good. I had quite a few beef so that was also nice. I also ordered Portuguese baked rice and was hugely disappointed. Firstly, that took a while, which is understable since it's usually the baking time that takes time. However my dish came out lukewarm. Furthermore, it was plain rice, not even fried rice like the common recipes. Moreover there was no cheese on top! A lot of the pieces I chewed on were chicken fat rather than real chicken. I also thought it was odd for them to use sweet potato. Service was mediocre but that's expected with chinese places. Prices are reasonable. The milk tea and lemon tea was good.
