The 16 Best Thai Restaurants In San Francisco - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"We love this Parkside spot for their menu of Thai and Lao specialties. It’s easy to walk into on a weeknight (just note they close at 8:30pm), and it works well for small group dinners over rich curries, charred satay, and flaky roti that leaves behind a buttery sheen on your fingers. Yes, this is a Thai guide, but don’t leave without throwing in an order of nam kao tod—the crispy bits of rice walk the tightrope between salty, sour, and funky." - julia chen 1, lani conway, ricky rodriguez

Chaa Roen Pohn - Review - Parkside - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"We love Chaa Roen Pohn in Parkside for its hard-to-find Lao dishes. Whether it’s pla nil tod tilapia that’s so crispy it triggers a noise complaint from three blocks away, or the crackly nam kao tod with sour pork sausage, everything under the Lao section of the menu at this Lao-Thai walk-in-only spot is incredible. Don’t be deterred if this place looks full—they’ve got a hidden room in the back with plenty of seating. Now if only they could change the fluorescent lighting so it doesn't feel like you’re dining at the doctor's office." - Ricky Rodriguez

Google
A neighborhood comfort food restaurant for Thai and Laoian cusine. Modern comfortable interior with Asian accents. Service friendly warm and hospitable. Dishes come out in reasonable time. Each dish colorful and looking absolutely delicious. Rich flavors, fresh vegetables and each bite a treat for your mouth.

Google
I ordered a Khao Soi and my friend got the beef noodle soup with flat rice noodles. The Khao soi had good flavor but not enough broth. It was on the thick side too so it borderline felt somewhere between sauce and soup. I added water to thin it out and get more broth :) It had an expected spice to it as well so may not be ideal for someone who wants a non spicy dish. The beef noodle soup was flavorful and meat was tender! I’d visit again to try more dishes. I also enjoyed the cozy and relaxing space. Interesting background music choice though 😆

Google
satay chicken 4.5/5 red curry 3/5 broth not rich enough, can add more flavor Tom yum soup 4/5 flavor was good, portion can be bigger. Didn’t say add shrimp will be 2 extra on the menu, confirmed that it would be the same, but they do charge 2 more for shrimp, similar as other dish. Not a big deal though, just to remind you guys. Pad Thai 4/5 a little too sweet for me. Overall a good restaurant if you want some Thai food.

Google
Great neighborhood place with authentic flavors. Came here for a quick late afternoon weekend lunch and pleasantly surprised at the open yet cozy space. Heard about the food from reviews and from my mom/who doesn’t dole out compliments often. Service is attentive and dishes came out quickly. The place was full and there were lots of to-go business. The other diners had delicious looking plates on their tables and everyone seemed happy and full. We had pad Thai, fried rice and wonton noodle soup. My son loved the rice and the pad Thai was so delicious- perfectly cooked noodles and not overly sauced. It’s all about the sauce and the flavors were spot on. The soup was subtle and soothing. There were so many things I wanted to try so will be back again to try the Lao dishes. Glad to have such a great place in this neighborhood.

Google
The food is mind-blowingly good! So authentic, reminds me of the fancier Thai restaurant food I had that locals took me to in Thailand. I suggest ordering from the Lao menu if you’re more open to try new flavors. The bamboo dish and catfish in banana leaf are the favorites so far, but am definitely coming back to try more! They just opened and already there is a line.

Google
Sweet neighbor restaurant with Laotian/Thai offerings. Service was friendly. The music playing was quite loud however when we asked it was turned down a bit. All of our dishes were full of flavor- one of them super spicy! My dish had a peppercorn vine which I tried but the heat was too much for me. The prices are quite reasonable.

Google
I am in love with this new Thai restaurant in my hood ! For being a huge Thai foods fan, I’ve tried most Thai restaurants in SF and I can confidently say this place tops off as one of most authentic Thai places. I only tried 3 dishes so I will have to go back but pad Thai was amazing , not too sweet or salty . Tom kha soup had perfect balance of sourness and creaminess between coconut and lime, other spices. We also had larb salad. It was bit salty so we ordered white rice to go with it. Other than typical Thai cuisines, they also have Laos dishes which looked tempting to try for next time. We will definitely come back !

Google
Very fresh and delicious food. The papaya salad is on point! Will come again!

Yelp
Ordered the vegetable egg rolls, chicken satay, yellow curry, and white rice. Everything was very tasty! Highly recommend!

Yelp
This restaurant took over Lemongrass Vietnamese restaurant, but it's a nice welcome to the neighborhood to bring in the rare and hard find Laotian and Thai food combination. I love this type of food and ready to explore more of Laotian! We decided to order Larb Minced pork, red onion, mint, fresh lime juice, cilantro, roasted rice powder and fresh chili, Green Curry that has thai eggplant, bamboo, bell peppers, basil, and kaffir lime leaves, Pineapple Fried Rice that had Egg fried rice with pineapple, chicken, shrimp, onions, cashew nuts, raisins, turmeric powder and curry powder and Fried rolls stuffed with vegetables, taro and silver noodle served with sweet and sour sauce. Everything was tasty. The Larb was had a little spice kick to it. The rolls were pretty standard and okay which is good for vegetarians. After we ordered then we noticed a menu on table that had all Laotian dishes! Oh great we overlooked it. Ok next visit we will focus on Lao food items! Yes, I would come back and I hope this restaurant will last. Oh remember there was one young lady sever for all the tables there. The main dishes all have flavors that stood out. I really found it refreshing and tasty.

Yelp
Came here with a friend on Sunday for lunch. We parked residential a block away but there's metered parking available on the same block of the restaurant. Wasn't too busy when we got there. We were quickly greeted and seated. The restaraunt looks bright, clean and comfortable. We had a paper menu and a small menu with Laos items posted on the table as well. We Ordered: 1. Khao Soi with egg noodles: rich and flavorful, nice heat, and the chicken was tender and well seasoned. 2. Kao Piak (hand-pulled rice noodles in chicken broth): this was so light, tasty and fresh! Would come back and get this again. My parents would like it since it's so light. 3. Mango sticky rice: rice was warm, well seasoned the mango was good too. Would get again 4. Ice Thai tea: I felt it was too sweet. Same feeling for my friend who got their iced coffee. Overall food was great and the restaurant kept busy with customers coming in and out and takeout. Worth a visit for the area.

Yelp
It's better than an average Thai restaurant but some dishes were falling short of expectation. A friend introduced this restaurant to us because of the Laos dishes. They have a dedicated list of Laotian dishes. The food is slightly above average but didn't blow us away. - Soup Nor Mai: the best among all that we ordered. Flavorful but not too strong bamboo smell. - Tom Zabb: it's ok. Not great but not bad either - Namtok beef noodle soup: 3/5 - Pad See Ew: it got a good wok hei. - Por Laos: it's very similar to Vietnamese spring rolls. Very crispy. - Thai ice tea: 1/5 overly sweet. I took 1 sip and didn't finish it :( The restaurant is small and cozy. Staff was friendly enough. However, we probably won't go out of our way to dine there again.

Yelp
Cold dreary Friday evening and husband decided on some thai food. Excited that he ordered from here since I've been hearing good things! Around 6p, and there was parking in front. They weren't busy, so good for dine-in too! Cute cozy clean spot. We orderd: Tom yum noodle soup - more sour than I liked but it was still tasty, my husband failed and got regular rice noodle instead of egg noodle which is my go-to. HOW DARE HE. beef noodle soup - YUM! I liked this one more because of the rich savory broth. pad see ew beef - pretty tasty, a tad on the sweet side but very solid. bamee kiew - a "plain" noodle soup that was perfect for the kids. AND THEY LOVED IT. my toddler was slurping it up like crazy. overall a very solid thai place, that isn't too far from us. I think we'll try the laos dishes next, since that seems to be what people order most. we'll be back!

Yelp
Wow! Wow! Wow! We were blown away by this unassuming small neighborhood Laos/Thai restaurant! We went on a Friday night on the early side and didn't have to wait for a table but they did fill up and many takeout orders. The food was absolutely delicious - so flavorful and fresh! We ordered off the Laos menu and all the dishes were yummy! The hand pulled noodle soup in chicken broth with pork was light yet flavorful. I did wish there were a bit more noodles, maybe because it was so good. The crispy rice salad was very fresh and tasty. The crispy pork rolls were one of the best we've had anywhere. We finished the night with mango sticky rice and that did not disappoint either. There are so many other things that looked great on the Thai menu that we'll have to try next time. Service was friendly and efficient. The food arrived fairly quickly as well. Prices are very reasonable. Overall, this is a winner and goes onto the list of how soon can we go back!

Yelp
We came here for lunch after seeing them paint the signs several months ago and prepping for their song opening! Their menu was diverse and comprehensive and had menu items we'd never heard of which is always fun! We enjoyed the Mhok Pla fish dish, a soup- Kao Piak, and tum Thai. All the dishes were yummy with the fish being a bit too dill heavy for me, the soup was delish and hearty and the fresh noodles always make a dish for me. The Tum Thai was expected delicious and had a zingy fresh flavor expected of papaya salad! Service was attentive and the pandam tea was hot and had a subtle warm flavor ! Would recommend this place!

Yelp
Second time at Chaa Roen Pohn! Came for dinner on a Sunday at 5:45pm. We were seated right away but there was only 1 free table when we came in. Tried some new dishes this time. I really enjoyed the Por Laos which was fried rice rolls with pork, vermicelli, lettuce and herbs. Made for some tasty lettuce wraps! Also got the bamboo shot salad and the fried tofu which were also good. The mango sticky rice was the perfect way to finish the meal! The rice was served warm too which was nice. Great service too.

Yelp
There are metered parking spots right outside of this small mom and pop restaurant. There are also free street parking a block away from the restaurant. We were greeted and seated by a friendly waitress right away upon entering the restaurant. They have an extensive menu offering Thai and Laos food. We ordered the crispy tofu, papaya salad, pineapple fried rice, kao piak, rad nah mee grob with chicken, grilled pork, mango sticky rice, and iced tea. Our food came out in a timely manner. The crispy tofu came with peanut sauce and a sweet chili sauce. Both sauces went well with the crispy tofu. The papaya salad was ok. There was nothing special about it. The pineapple fried rice had a good amount of pineapple in it. The kao piak was pretty good with hand pulled noodles. It's a light, healthy noodle soup made with chicken broth. The grilled pork was tender, juicy, and flavorful. The rad nah mee grob is pan fried crispy noodles with Chinese broccoli and chicken. The noodles were crispy and tasty. The mango sticky rice was delicious. The iced tea was refreshing, and it had the right amount of sweetness to it. Out all these dishes that we ordered, our favorites were the grilled pork and the rad nah mee grob. We'll be back to try their Thai noodle soups and curry.

Yelp
Came here for lunch and overall, I'd give this place a 3.5! I was excited to try this place since there aren't many Lao options in the city. The portions are on the smaller side and based on what I ordered today, I'd say the food is not as flavorful. Service is fine and street parking was easy to find. [Thai Tea] On the sweeter side and not as strong in the tea flavor. It's mostly half&half. [Nam Khao Tod] This was an item on the Lao menu. I'd say it's more of the Thai style than Lao style. It's more on the sour side and there's ginger. Unfortunately, the dish was not served with a side of lettuce, cilantro, and mint so I could only use the single lettuce leaf it was served on to wrap the rice. Overall, the flavor was okay and the portion was pretty small. [Namtok Beef Noodle Soup] This is their boat noodle soup and I think was okay. I was surprised that there was no spice to it and that there were no condiments served with it as well. While the broth is tasty, it's not as flavorful and rich as other boat noodles I've had. There's actually not a lot of noodles and a wad of bean sprouts was added to the soup to make it look fuller. I'm glad I tried this place and it's great to see it in the neighborhood. I'm just not in a rush to return and try other items.

Yelp
Tried it out after the article in the SFStandard. Was very very pleased - some of the best Thai food I've had in SF. Big shout out for the high chair AND kid friendly plastic plate. My wife had pad Thai and said it was the best she's had in the city. My khao soi was delicious, more of a noodle dish than a soup IMO - but super super good nonetheless. My 1 year old loved the chicken Satay! Place is small so you may have to wait, but service and food was quick and friendly. Great local spot with BIG flavors.

Yelp
Chaa Roen Pohn I decided to take my mom here to explore some new flavors, and with the help of our waiter, we settled on two dishes that seemed perfect for her first-time Laos food experience. Nam Kao Tod (16) Crispy rice salad with sour pork sausage, onion, peanuts, served with lettuce, cilantro, and mint on the side. The tanginess of the salad was refreshing and balanced the richness of the sausage perfectly. This was definitely my favorite out of the two. The Kao Piak (16) Hand-pulled rice noodles in ginger chicken broth, pork loaf, pork spare ribs, topped with green onion, cilantro, and crispy onion. This was pretty good, and the broth had a lot of flavor, but was a bit too salty for my taste. The portions were not as big as I had hoped, but the flavors were definitely great. This seems like a relatively new restaurant with great staff as well! Definitely plan on coming back to try their other dishes!

Yelp
Cozy little new thai/ laos spot that offers a wide variety of quality dishes. I love that their specials aren't the usual stir fry noodle dishes, and they have delicious soups and seafoods too. Their yellow curry is flavorful and came in a large bowl, and the kao piak is thick and comforting for a cold SF day.

Yelp
4.5 STARS Thai speaking customers: CHECK! Offal: CHECK! Burn your booty hole spicy: CHECK! Not only does Chaa Roen Pohn serve legit Thai food that's actually spicy (if that's your jam), they have a Lao menu which is an underrepresented cuisine in the city. Chaa Roen Pohn softly opened in late August 2024, taking over Lemongrass Vietnamese Kitchen. Open for takeout and dine-in. Do note, it's a small space so not an ideal place for large groups and it's best to come during off peak hours to avoid a wait. M E N U Thai and Lao Cuisine. Spice levels 1-5. Staff says, their spice levels run more spicy than the norm. No alkie. F O O D * Super Teen Kai: Hot & Sour Chicken Feet Soup ($16) // 4 Stars: https://tinyurl.com/ywxdcuff They came through with the super! The Thai chicken feet soup is super hot, super flavorful, and super collagen-rich with the quintessential sweet, sour, salty, and spicy Thai flavors (similar to tom yum). The gelatinous chicken feet does take some effort to eat and isn't as meltingly soft like dim sum style chicken feet. Didn't request a specific spicy level for this so was surprised at how spicy it was. I have a pretty high spice tolerance and it felt like flaming Thai spicy to me. * Mhok Pla: Steamed Catfish Fillet w/ dill, onion, garlic and herbs in banana leaf served w/ steamed veggies ($15) // 4 Stars: https://tinyurl.com/2pd2tzyf A traditional Lao dish, the steamed catfish nuggets were meltingly soft with the richness balanced by the citrusy herbacousness of the dill and kaffir lime. Served with steamed bok choy, carrots, and cucumbers. Healthy and delicious. And, a good option for those looking for a mild dish. * Pad See Ew w/ flat rice noodles, egg, chinese broccoli ($14) // 4.5 Stars: https://tinyurl.com/483aecjc - Choice of chicken, beef, pork, tofu, shrimp (+$2), squid (+$2) - Choose pork and request spice level: 4 Probably one of the best and healthiest pad see ew I've had to date...the flat rice noodles were perfectly separated, intact, and chewy with good wok hei (smoky char). Delicious, balanced savory sweet flavor. Not salty and not a lick or drop of oil on the plate which means the chef has great wok skills and a hella well-seasoned wok. My only knock is the lean pork was tough and dry so will choose a different protein next time. Spice level 4 was perfect for me. It gave just the right amount of burn without blowing my palate out. S E R V I C E Friendly and prompt service. Arrived at opening time so there was no wait. There's only one FOH taking care of dine-in customers and takeout orders. For takeout, you may have to call in several times to catch her. A M B I A N C E Casual, cozy spot with eight tables and one private room in the back. P A R K I N G Residential street parking which can be challenging. Overall, Chaa Roen Pohn is a welcome addition to this side of the city with their bold and flavorful Thai food and harder to find Lao dishes. Four stars for the food but adding .5 stars and rounding up for a new local small business.

Yelp
very good place.... had two Lao dishes and enjoyed both. Service was excellent. recommended.

Yelp
Wow, prob one of the best Thai/Laos spot in SF that I've been too, and in the Sunset district. Was not expecting it when I randomly noticed a new place in the neighborhood. This place is SMALL! Literally only like 7-8 tables but everything is so flavorful. A lot of the dishes reminded me exactly like Thailand. We ordered the Yen-Ta-Foo, red curry, Roti, papaya salad, and Koh Moo Yang. Everything was absolutely amazing. Service is great too. I cannot wait to try more dishes, and come here on my work lunch. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Saw this new place pop up on Yelp and decided to grab a quick dinner a hr before they closed on a Thursday, it was consistently busy. We tried the grilled pork, nam khao, boat noodles, and Lao papaya salad. My favorite dish was the grilled pork, it had a good char and the spicy sauce on the side was spicy and salty making it a good combo. The boat noodles had a lot of depth and umami notes and came with tender meat and meatballs, it was hearty and a must order. The nam khao was good but I prefer the raw fermented sausage more than the cooked that it came with. The Lao papaya had a nice kick, we got medium and it was enjoyable spice but I thought it was a little sweeter than I'd prefer. The service was spotty but they're new and were busy with one person primarily serving the whole place. I do think their portions were a bit on the smaller side for the prices so be aware when ordering for larger groups! Excited to come back and try different dishes and I'm glad there's an authentic Lao place in town!

Yelp
New Thai Lao restaurant in the neighborhood that hubs wanted to try. He placed a to go order, and it was ready in about 15 minutes. He initially ordered the Nam Khao but was told they ran out, so he ordered the Khao Soi instead as well as the bamboo salad. Hubs really enjoyed the Khao Soi. Broth was flavorful, and he liked the texture of the noodles, including the crispy noodles. The bamboo salad was tart and had a kick to it. In my opinion, it tasted better the next day. Hubs is eager to return to try other menu items.

Yelp
Really great spot if you're craving Thai/Laotian food. We tried the following dishes & would definitely come back to try others! Boat Noodle: comparable to Thaitown in LA, which I loved! Pad Thai: decent-sized portion & packed with flavor Papaya Salad: the must-order dish in my opinion; you can adjust the spice level but we found Medium to be perfect! Fried Tofu: I liked the crispness but thought it was underseasoned so probably wouldn't order it again.
google avatar

Yelp
Grilled pork was so good, I would come back for take out because I don't wanna pay $3 for rice. Prices are alright when but each item felt like an appetizer. Steamed Cat fish was odd. A lot of dill with steamed vegetables on the side. That's a steamed food with another steamed food? Didn't go well together. Wouldn't order again. Pad Thai was thin rice noodles. Alright but scant amount of eggs and a few slices of beef. Wouldn't order again. Haven't given up on this place again, I could have just order the wrong items. Would come back to try the pad see ew and laos chicken soup.

Yelp
Greeted at the door. Cute interior. Delicious food. Definitely worth trying. I had been in the mood for Khao Soi and was not disappointed. It was flavorful and a perfect spice level - enough to leave a lingering heat without burning your mouth. The Thai iced tea was sweet and refreshing. My partner ordered the mhok pla, which was catfish with a prominent dill flavor. It didn't come with rice so ordered jasmine rice on the side.
google avatar

Ansh P.

Yelp
Hands down the new incumbent for best Thai / Lao experience in SF. Step aside Khao Tiew (West Portal) and Khob Khun (Richmond) - both great places. The Lao menu is so very legit. You won't find Kang Om easily even in SF and certainly not with such authentic and deep flavor as Chaa Roen doles out. It's in an odd location of Southwest SF / Sunset but totally worth the trek and taste. Close out with the Mango Sticky Rice!

Yelp
Cozy little Thai/Lao Place in the Parkside/Outer Sunset near Stern Grove with several really nice small tables. Excellent food! Grand Opening Day was today, August 29! We just happened to be walking by and hungry, so we stepped inside. Soft opening, but at least three other parties were in the restaurant. I have no relationship to anyone here, but the food and service was excellent! As we usually order or go for Thai food on a regular basis, we decided to sample with one of our usual staples - Pad Kra Pow - which is your choice of meat (Chicken, Pork, Beef or Shrimp) stir fried with fresh basil leaves, garlic and a bit of chili and bell peppers. We ordered the MILD pork version of this, and it still had a welcome tiny hint of spicy kick to it. Wasn't expecting that, but it was a nice surprise. We liked it so much we called them on the phone and ordered more for take out, including... a Pad Thai with chicken and the Pad Kee Mao (wide noodles with broccoli and basil, with a really yummy wok aroma! Great flavors, all on point, perfectly seasoned. On our third visit in 2 weeks, we went back and had lunch there with Tom Yum Noodle Soup and an order of Yellow Curry with Chicken. Both were good too. The Tom Yum Noodle was especially good with thick wide noodles and great flavor. A C C E S S Parking is relatively easy in this quiet corner of the Outer Sunset - angle parking across the street, or spaces on the next block next to the elementary school. Yes, bike lanes too. Transit? Muni L-Taraval or 28 bus and walk down the hill a block or two. P R O T I P: The Grand Opening Special is a free Thai Iced Tea! Yes please! We look forward to coming here again and again... No website or online ordering yet.. Just call 'em and order up! or eat there..

Yelp
Quite authentic Thai and Laotian restaurant on Vicente and 24th. The food was absolutely scrumptious with spice levels generally mild to moderate. We also found the pandan tea and coconut drink the perfect accompaniment to the food. Service was lovely--friendly, welcoming, efficient. The restaurant is cozy with 7-8 tables. Recommend getting there early to avoid a wait-we arrived at opening for dinner and the place had filled up within the hour. Looking forward to coming back!

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday evening around 8pm. It's a small restaurant and there were 2 parties other than us, so we got to sit at the window table. We ordered a chicken larb and pad kee mao. The bamboo in the pad kee mao was the most tender I've ever had in my life. Super cheap and filled the 2 of us up! Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
This new spot quietly opened about a month ago, but they have such an extensive authentic menu containing many Thai and Laotian food items I have never encountered in menus here. Their food is cooked very authentically and can speak for their Thai food as I just came back from vacationing there this year. The papaya salad was simple but had a nice sour but addictive taste. The Thai iced tea was balanced and finished it in 5 minutes because I thought it was that good. I liked the Khao Soi but personally would opt for another entree bext time. The interior space is small but quaint with nice decorations and plants. Service is friendly and quick, too. I certainly will be back soon to try more entrees and even some of the Laotian food.

Yelp
It's great to have a restaurant in the sunset that sells Lao food. Lao Papaya Salad (Tum Laos): The best I have had in the city so far. Perfectly spicy, fresh and fishy. Crispy tofu: Cooked well but had no seasoning. Wouldn't order again. Pad Thai with Beef: Initially had a hair in it, but the server took care of it and the kitchen remade it. Very generous portion and the sauce was tasty. I just wish there was a little more tamarind taste but can't complain.

Yelp
2.5 stars, rounding up to 3. I first heard about Chaa Roen Pohn from a few friends, raving about how good the food was. One of the friends happens to be Laotian herself and she said the food was legit. Having gone in with high expectations, I thought it would be a shoo-in. Unfortunately, the dishes fell flat for my family. I ordered 2 Thai dishes and 2 Lao dishes to go. The lady was kind and friendly. The Lao steak was small and really chewy, despite being very rare in the middle. The steamed catfish seemed interesting and piqued my interest. However, I didn't expect the catfish to be cut up in tiny pieces and the dill was overpowering. My parents and husband did not like it at all. The steamed veggies that came with it were very undercooked, almost raw. The two Thai dishes were just ok. I didn't expect the Basil pork to be spicy but it definitely had a kick, so my son couldn't eat it. I also didn't know that they would use minced pork vs sliced pork. Flavor-wise, it was still the best dish. The last dish was stir fry veggies with shrimp. It was average at best but we didn't care for all the onions. Total tab was about $80. Portions were on the smaller side. Usually, I love to support small, local businesses. I was also very excited to have a Laotian restaurant in the neighborhood because it's rare to find. Maybe it was an off night or the dishes just weren't for me. If I were to go for Thai food closer to home, I would stick with Vanida.

Yelp
NEW Thai - Laotian in an area in the city that is not impossible to find parking! The Ms. who greeted and served us is so nice. Heard we can get boat noodles here - will try that as soon as the weather cools off. P S: The Mango Sticky Rice dessert is yum. You can find more of my food and travel journey @siecysdiary

Yelp
I live upstairs and have ate here twice since they have been open. The first time i ordered a traditional Lao noodle soup I forgot the name of it. it was pretty good, but wasn't exactly my taste in noodle, But still good. the second time I ordered the Khao soi, which is one of my favorite noodle soup dishes, it was delicious. I wish had a bit more of those little crunchy noodles things. Service was great. I met the people working there or the owners a few times(Peter & Ana) in passing as I live upstairs. super nice people and very attentive to the needs of the people that were there. Really cozy and comfortable too. Please be patient with the Service as they are still new. I'll be working my way through the menu, as it's hard to try all the unique lao and fresh Thai dishes in one sitting. It's great to see this place do well as it was packed this past week. I know this review isn't going to help, but I hope this place stays a bit of a hidden gem because I want to keep the parking light. If this place becomes popular, it might be hard to find parking. Excited to try the other things on the menu.

Yelp
Came on a Friday evening and waited close to 40 minutes with 3 parties ahead of us. The two parties after us only waited 10 minutes... and they seated one of those party in the back room when they could've offered it to us but they didnt... I guess they pick and choose who gets to sit early and who waits. Then they took the order of the party that seated after us first then took our order. I get that it's busy but it's a bit irritating to wait for everything... it should be a first come first serve basis? But here's the food review: Every dish we got was 5/5. Asked for light salt and it was perfect. Tilapia doesn't have too much bones and the spare rib in the Kao Piak was really tender. Por Laos is a must.

Yelp
So excited after hearing that there is a new Thai-Laotian restaurant opening in the Sunset neighborhood. Actually, I want to tried so many things but just only two of us we ordered our favorite menu Khoa Piak and really loved it. The broth was umami and the noodle was perfect cooked. Papaya Salads both are medium hot and that was perfect for us. Grilled pork is a must!! Perfect pairing with a side of sticky rice. Yum!! The restaurant is a tiny space with a few tables but looks bright and clean. Good service and street parking only!! Recommended!!

Yelp
Four year olds approve! That's all I gotta say! I have been wanting to try this place since they opened but always afraid that it would be too spicy for my littles. Fear not parents, this place is toddler approved with casual, comfortable atmosphere and great service. We ordered the chicken satay and rolls for starters and they were gobbled up. Then came my beef noodle soup, which they both ate, the pad Thai, for dad, and their pineapple fried rice. They stayed away from the strong flavors of the pad Thai but they loooved the pineapple fried rice. Both adults loved the pad Thai. The noodles were bouncy and it really hit the spot. The pineapple fried rice was consumed before I got to try anything. The beef noodle soup was so warm and comforting. I'll be back for that since I had to share with my girls. After dinner, I suggested trying the mango sticky rice. They started chanting MANGO STICKY RICE loudly until the order was taken. They loved it and at my mango too! I apologize for the lack of pictures but every parent knows, I had to grow extra arms to feed them and me at the same time. I will try again the next time we go.

Yelp
We love this place! Such great Thai food, very fresh flavors that bring us right back to our visit to Thailand. It's rare to find something this authentic, we are excited to try their Laotian menu next. We really like the khoa soi, pad see ew and pad Thai

Yelp
This Stern Grove adjacent Lao-Thai restaurant on a sleepy block should not be missed. Welcoming interior with some nice art and faux greenery. The Lao menu sits in a plastic frame on the table, while the Thai menu is handed to you. They are waiting for their beer and wine license so either bring your own or enjoy water or soft drinks for now. We had the fresh rolls with shrimp, which are traditionally cold rice paper-wrapped lettuce, shrimp, and noodles to dip in a curiously tasty peanut-based sauce. We had the larb, which was not too spicy on a bed of lettuce (can be ordered with pork, beef, or chicken). Also tried a Lao ginger chicken soup Kow Piak with ribs, pork loaf, chicken and hand-pulled rice noodles. Food is tasty but all dishes are on the small side. Kao piak, while shared for two is really a dish for one. Needs more stuff in it. Will come back again and try some other Lao dishes.

Yelp
Wanted to support new local restaurant so we gave Chaa Roen Pohn a try. Food was mediocre at best - "mild" papaya salad was very spicy, pork was overcooked and fried fish was dry and overcooked. Pad Thai which is Thai staple was soggy. Only one waitress for entire restaurant so service was difficult. That said, what was most surprising was they added 20% automatic tip on bill for party of 3. I've never experienced that before. Sure - maybe large parties I've seen automatic gratuity of 18% but for party of 3 and 20%? That's pretty presumptuous. If you need to charge more for food to stay afloat fine - at least customer knows what to expect. But don't put in automatic 20% tip for small groups - this is not transparent as it was not mentioned anywhere on the menu or at the restaurant. Do they automatically charge tip for party of 2? party of 1? Take out?

Yelp
Cute little spot, service was fast food came out right away during dinner even when restaurant was relatively full. Loved the shredded bamboo salad. 100% will come back again for it. Husband got one of the egg noodle soups but the noodles were slightly overcooked and soggy - otherwise overall portion and flavor is decent.

Yelp
Went last week, coming back this week! Goal is to try everything on the menu. Restaurant is small but they also have a private room that can host 14 people with karaoke! Anna was amazing, all her recommendations were delicious.

Yelp
Great service and is diligent with peanut allergies. Food is tasty and packaged well. Containers are on small side.

Yelp
If you are looking for the authentic Thai food esp., North east of Thailand. (E-Saan) or Loa style. You won't regret it. It's delicious and tasty. It reminds me of Thailand. I ordered more but not it the photo such as Kra Dook Moo Todd, Nam Kao Tod, grilled pork, Tum Khoa Phoa. They have more Thai menu there and it look good. I'll try next time. Recommend this place.

Yelp
Happen to hear about this new place and was excited to go to a quiet neighborhood with a hidden gem. Had the green curry chicken which was quite on the bland side with thin strips of chicken. had a fish appetizer and of course pad se you. They had the opportunity to impress but probably will just end up as an average neighborhood hole in the wall. At least it's not traditional Chinese food. Would we go back? No! .

Yelp
We finally ordered from this new spot and loved it. The pad Thai was perfect, the yellow curry had just the right kick, and the chicken satay practically fell off the skewer. Most impressively, the Thai fried rice was remarkably good. My favorite fried rice in San Francisco is from Kingdom of Dumpling on Taraval, and this one is a contender for that top spot. Gotta go deeper into the menu next time.

Yelp
Love this new addition to the neighborhood! Everything tasted fresh and flavorful where I wanted to try everything in the menu, but there's only so much stomach capacity. Lol. Me and my fiancé been here twice already in the span of them being open for only two weeks. That says a lot for us, we usually don't go to the same restaurant within the same time period. The restaurant is very clean and cozy. They serve both Thai and Lao dishes. I believe the owner says the chef is Laos and Thai. I love the fact we can get a combination of flavors in the Parkside area. What we have tried: Pad Thai, green curry, mhok pai (catfish), por laos (fried spring roll), nam kao Tod (crispy rice salad), kao piak (hand pulled rice noodles) and pineapple fried rice. I highly recommend the nam kao tod and kao piak. Both unique dishes and very delicious. I will definitely be back to try more dishes. Please don't get too popular haha

Yelp
We visited on a Wednesday night and were seated right away. We only tried the Lao menu and truly enjoyed it. The chicken noodle soup was tasty, the roti light, crisp and the mango sticky rice warm n sweet.

Yelp
Second time here, food was excellent and had very authentic flavors. Service was great. Would highly recommend the crispy rice paper rolls.
