Chalmers Austin

New favorite sports bar in Austin. Imagine Rustic Tap meets Dainty Dillo, this place is huge with so many TVs that there isn’t a bad seat in the house. Front room is the old gas pumps, then the old service garage is the bar, and the backyard is just massive with a ton of tables, fireplaces, and TVs.

Such a great spot for good food and gatherings! Lots of space indoors and outdoors to spread out and hang with friends, dog friendly patio, and TVs for sports fans. I was surprised that even on a very hot day, the outside patio felt great due to good coverage and lots of fans. Fry bread tacos were excellent, and the Mexican arancini balls were especially delicious! Excited to see this place grow as the next phases take place :)

Update: taco fry bread was not this salty. Rice balls were good. Drinks good per usual! Saltyyyyy steak fry bread that was very disappointing (my husband likes salty things and even this was way too much), frozen dirty shirley was good and would get again, the zombie has is mezcal which I didn’t love (wasted it). Lots of outdoors TVs and a small inside space with AC. Pretty loud inside despite not seating a ton of people. Cool spot and hope to see some improvements as the location is great!

Came for the vibes, stayed for the drinks. I really enjoyed their frozen dirty Shirley, strong and flavorful! My bf got the frozen martini which was also good. I liked that you can order from your table via QR code and pickup on the side of the bar when ready vs standing in a line. The star of the show was the bacon wrapped shrimp, we almost ordered another! Didn’t get a picture because we were starving but definitely recommend.

Great local sports bar with really nice service staff. It gets packed but always a lively crowd so go early if possible to scope out a spot. Limited parking mainly on street or Uber there. Two great patio area rear patio has jumbo and smaller screens.

If your looking for a place to drink and be social this is the spot. Drinks aren't bad its the perfect spot for younger crowd. You order from an app or qr code. You pick up your own drinks and food at either the side bar or outside window. No real communication with an actual person for food or drinks. We stopped in for a drink and to try out whatever food they had. I had the mojito it was a decent drink. The wings were good the BLT was alright it would have been better with decent lettuce. The fries were like wack arnold fries aka mac donalds. Crinkle cut fries would be my choice of fries there was way to many on my plate which just went to waste. The burger is just like wack Arnold's quarter pounder. Not our kind of burger we like veggies on ours. So if you want to just drink and be social and are ok with mediocre food and no actual food or drinks service in person then this spot is for you. I prefer to communicate with a server or bar tender but thats my choice.

Finally far east Austin is getting some great bars! Laid-back vibe with great drinks and plenty of seating. Parking was easy and the food was AMAZING. The burger was delicious and I was surprised how huge the wings were. Def stopping by anytime I'm in the area!

I’m usually skeptical of new Austin spots, but this one exceeded my expectations. The Frozen Dirty Shirley & Cactus shots were so good, and the chips + dip & fries were some of the best I’ve had in a while. Atmosphere and staff were great too.

A new joint from the team at Armadillo Den, Dainty Dillo, and more! This place slaps! Come for the game and stay for the amazing food and drinks! An east side joint that I hope starts to bleed over all the graffiti and abandoned buildings - we need more of this on Caesar Chavez please! The place is very dog friendly and their treat jars keep my boy here! The staff clearly love dogs and the patrons here can occasionally seem like LA Instaglams but the levels seems to simmer when the UT game is playing. The service is either from your phone or walkups. It is a get it yourself establishment which I prefer and their collab beer is great! They have a good happy hour for those looking and the burgers, and chips with queso are my usual go tos.

Fist time visitor. I actaully gre up in the area so I love the vibe of the place and there is plenty of space. WE tried the BBQ food place and it was delicious but get there early they went viral so most of it was sold out. Bartenders were great no complaits here. Cons, They do not offer any NA beers just a suggestion to add these before dry Jan. Many TV's for the game but hubbby is a huge sports fan you could not hear the game in any area the music was so loud. I would suggest at least having one area where you can hear the games.

Chalmers was on my "try it out" list for a while. I love armadillo den and I believe the same people own Chalmers. So yes, I'm here because of instagram. I was influenced, but the hype was worth it. I actually stopped by unplanned when my partner and I were looking for an outdoor space to have a casual dinner. Parking was meh, we didn't have a problem finding some street parking though. It was the night before the UT/UK football game and right off the bat I for sports bar vibes. But it wasn't bad, just lots of huge tv's playing football. They had several fire pits with chairs around them, most of them had a reserved sign. Would have been nice to have some available for walk in people, it was a cold night. The drinks were good, I got the frozen Mexican martini. Decently strong, great flavor. We ate from the bbq truck, enjoyed the brisket "frito-Pie" and my partner raved about their chicken. Would definitely come back, probably not on a night before a big game. Lots of great outdoor space, clean bar, and good location.

I don't know why they don't have a higher star rating. Yeah, I know it's "new Austin" but it's a nice spot with a good vibe. It doesn't hurt they gave my dog treats lol. Seriously the layout and decor mirrors old school country restaurants. The patios are nice (two of them). Didn't eat here but the drinks are crazy good. Can't believe how many draft cocktails they have. The frozen Dirty Shirley and frozen Mexican Marg are insane. Literally one and you're buzzed up. They had a nice crowd when we were here on a Thursday. Everyone was chill and cool. Happy to have them in my neighborhood.

Please, turn down the volume of the music. Inside was at a total roar where you can't hear someone sitting directly next to you and outside is just a bit better. The queso is good. The Caesar salad is good. The cucumber salad is a side salad size, so make sure you know that before ordering. My friends got tacos and said the fry bread was really hard. Everything is order in app and pick up at windows. The doors outside the food pick up need the hinges switched to be push from the outside because you can't pull the door open when your hands are full of plates. Side note, I don't know why someone in these reviews thought it was a place for a baby. It's definitely a party environment for adults.

Bartenders are incredibly awesome and fun/good drink selection!!! I see you Star (she's awesome). The food truck is really good too but dear lord takes forever to order. They really need to incorporate online ordering because even with only one person ahead of me took over 10 minutes because they also hand out food at the same window. Super tasty though! Oookay now why it's a 3 star.... They say it's a sport la bar so FFS play some football sounds instead of blasting the music so loud you can't even hear the person next to you. They have a speaker above and facing down on every table blasting it. Really annoying, just pick a football game to play the sound - definitely not sports bar vibes AT ALL.

Chalmers seems to be one of the new kids on block. Recently was shared one of those classic instagram videos of a tour of the newly converted gas station bar and kitchen, so we decided to have our book club meeting here. The vibes are top notch. If they did one thing super well, it's the instagram-able vibes of the patio. The branding is solid. The graphic design is cute. The colors are nice. It's definitely a cool place to come hang with some friends for a nice atmosphere. We went on a Wednesday evening so there wasn't a lot of people and nice enough to sit on the patio. (It is a smoking patio just fyi) Other than that, everything else was a bit average. Which was fine. I didn't try any of the food, but drink wise it seemed to be a usual $12-16 dollar average quality cocktail. The ordering experience is 0 human interaction and your tab stays open on your phone which is cool for going at your own pace. All in all, cool place to check out for the vibe but wouldn't be my go-to if I'm in need of a cocktail or food.

I have a feeling Chalmers is going to be a go-to for me! The overall vibe is so cute and very well curated. There's tons of seating and they're expanding even further. They've also got a great TV setup that'll be perfect for football season. Food: The onion straws were so good. They were perfectly thin and crispy and the side of ranch was some of the best I've had which is a big statement coming from me! The chips and dips were great too. Personally, I didn't love the wings. Drinks: I got the frozen dirty Shirley and loved it! It was a little sweet so a one and done kind of cocktail for me but I'd get it again. The menu was stacked with tons of options. Service: I didn't talk to too many employees but everyone I did talk to was super nice and accommodating. I ordered pretty much everything via the QR codes on the table. They text when everything is ready for pickup so it's a super streamlined process. Parking: There's a small lot out front and some street parking nearby. It's probably easier to call a ride share!

Great interior! The decor creates a very fun and specific vibe. Very West Texas! The queso was yummy! A little thin and salty but overall great flavor and a good sized portion. The Mexican Arancini came with 4 balls. They were very cheesy, had a nice crunch, and a yummy lightness from the salsa. The Frozen Dirty Shirley was so delicious! It tastes like a complex 7/11 slushy in the best way possible. So so yummy, perfect drink for a hot day. We got the Chilton as well but it had an odd flavor. Possibly too much lemon juice or the lemon juice had gone bad. I will be returning soon to try their fry bread tacos and Mexican wheel chips!

Checked out Chalmers a few weekends ago with a group of friends. It was 6 of us, and it was packed when we got there, so it was at least 5 minutes before we were able to scout a table (which was for 4, so too small for us but we made it work). Drinks were very standard and did not stand out at all. It's a pretty young crowd -- you get ID checked at the door, so they're clearly worried about underage drinking (should give you a sense of how young the crowd really is here). Music was loud, and there was a tiny public water jug that was broken. Given how hot it was, I felt that this was detrimental to the enjoyment of customers, and we ended up leaving pretty quickly once we finished our drinks and wings. A pro for Chalmers is the location. It's in a walkable area, which is always nice. There is also a mix of indoor and outdoor seating.

Gas station turned awesome new patio bar! This laid-back bar is a perfect spot to go to watch sports games at, it has lots of TV's. Lively atmosphere with a nice outdoor patio that's covered along with an indoor area and another outside seating area. Excited to see their back patio expansion that's coming soon! Love Armadillo Den but never go given its South location, so looking forward to having a similar set up on the East side! Beware- the frozen Mexican Martini will get ya!

The frozen Mexican martini's are strong and perfect for patio drinking. Chalmers is located right off Cesar Chavez in a prime location in East Austin. There are a few spots to the side of building and street parking off its namesake Chalmer's street. You enter from the Chalmer's side of the street. The back patio is still a work in progress but it looks like it will be awesome when it's ready. For now there's a pick up window for the food, an indoor bar / dining area with plenty of seating and a front patio with lots of powerful fans and just the right amount of shade. The front patio is fenced in but not too tall that you can't watch the view on the main drag. You can order at the bar or via QR code. There are two frozen drinks and several popular cocktails on draft as well beer and wine. I got the frozen Mexican martini which comes with a pickled okra spear and an olive. The drink is perfect nice and dirty - salty and sour. Just what you want in a bar drink. If you want sweet there's a frozen Shirley temple too. The cactus shot is has a Tajín rim and is rum based with a slightly sweet and sour taste. I also had their espresso martini on draft. A great pick me up. Many ordered the mojito and margarita as well. For food, the salads were refreshing but my only complaint was the croutons were slightly stale but the lettuces and dressing were a-ok. I also got the burger which was a flat top burger - double patty - that had a good ratios - definitely a better burger than most and plenty of fried too. I ordered way too much and also got the wings too. Very satisfying portions and enough to share. The fry bread tacos were not ready yet. Service is great. Hard to believe that this was the second operating day. Looking forward to enjoying this patio.

Nice space on the east side. I like their menu of drinks on draft like espresso martinis and frozen Mexican martinis! There is an indoor space and a much larger outdoor space, both in the back and in the front. They have a ton of TVs that show football on Sunday. Just beware...in the back they play blaring country (and other random) music and do not play sound for any of the games. We inquired about having the volume turned down so we wouldn't have to yell at each other and also tried to get one of the games on the speakers. They said that only if the Cowboys are doing well in the 4th quarter will they put football on the speakers. Seems kind of odd for a place that advertises showing football on Sunday. There were so many people there with jerseys on that you'd think they would cater to the clientele.

So, this place is a good sports bar, with tons of space outside and lots of tvs. That's the good part. We went for an NFL Sunday and the major downside is just the sound. We sat outside on the back to watch games and they had extremely loud country music playing outside. At the very least, play game sound, if you are a sports bar. Not the right atmosphere.

What a darling new patio bar! Tons of outdoor space in the front and back to hang in. The front patio is covered, which is great for a little sun protection and also you can still hang out there if it's raining. I am excited for Chalmers 2.0 when they expand the back and will have live music, creating an east side version of Armadillo Den. The drink price points are reasonable compared to what Austin is turning into which is nice to see, $13 for a draft cocktail (like a cold brew martini) still seems a little expensive but could be much worse. There is a frozen dirty shirley on the menu which is well balanced and a fun take on a classic drink! The service is great and attentive, you can order from the bar / walk up food window or you can order through the union app. There was a number of people clearing tables and checking on service. I ordered food through the app and I wish it had been a little more descriptive. It was not clear that the chicken fried steak came with fries or that any of the handheld items came with fries. I probably would not have also gotten a salad had I known. All in all, the food was tasty! Will deffo be back. Excited to have this in the neighborhood!

I understand Chalmers just opened and they could still be working out some kinks, but still wanted to give my two cents of my recent experience. First, it's soo nice they have inside seating and the AC works really well. My friend immediately said the floors were giving off a lot of echo and making the room louder even though there weren't many people in there. The outside is beautiful and spacious, and they are still working on opening it even more on the other side of the building. I know this place will be a hit though, so not sure if my review will even matter lol. You scan to order and then pick up your food at the window outside. The food we tried was just Eh. Next time we said we'll try the burgers. The chicken fried steak tenders were exciting to see on the menu so we ordered those, the crack wings, fries, the fried bread tacos, as well as the pecan brownie. The menu didn't say the tenders came with fries and bread since it was on the appetizer menu, but we didn't need the other order of fries at all. The gravy dip it came with was very bland. Didn't know the fried bread taco came with 2 tacos either. The bread was hard and the whole thing was extremely salty. It was hard to eat. We took it apart and ate it with a fork and the fries, but still we noticed it was really salty. The wings were good. I didn't try any of the cocktails but it's a cool place for sure so I will probably be back and I'll update my review. Just wanted to share my experience for management!

Came here with a group of friends to watch football and get drinks...the frozen mexican martini was good but wasn't that good on the rocks so I'd recommend getting the frozen! We all had buckets of beer the rest of the time and it was great! A bunch of seating and fun atmosphere filled with TVs! Staff is super nice and THE CHILE LIME RUB WINGS and queso...wow so so good! Would love to come back and try more of the food next time!

This is my favorite bar in the east side. It's a bummer that a bunch of the bad reviews are from people trying to bring their newborn children to a bar.

Looooove Chalmers - the Dirty Shirley is my new favorite drink! The decor inside is really cool, western but not overdone, and the staff are equally great. My only issue is I like the idea of ordering through the QR codes, but it does make for a lot of getting up and walking to the different pick-up spots for food or drinks. Regardless, can't wait for more Friday nights here!

Tough not to like everything about Chalmers especially if you are here to watch a game. Spacious, friendly ... great food & tvs!

No kids allowed! Very frustrating as they advertise as family friendly on their website

We started this adventure with our Lyft driver Hector who shared his family's stories about the experiences of East Austin and the old Rainey Street and reminded us of how much families are affected by the growth of our city. We were literally the first people to arrive, and once we went inside we found ourselves having one of our best afternoons. I'm someone who can hold my own with alcohol, but after drinking half of my frozen Mexican Martini, I knew that this was the real deal and the music on the patio was amazing. The food menu was limited when we were there, but my husband liked the burger. I can't imagine anyone thinking it would be appropriate to bring an infant here and griping because they weren't allowed in. Get drunk at home with your baby, but don't blame the establishment for telling you no. I'm always supportive of local businesses, and we're definitely going back without any infant with us.

Classic laid back patio bar. Dog friendly and great drinks and food. Good queso for munching and mexi marts for drinking. We love it here.

Really wanted to love this place. As a long time resident of East Austin, we have been waiting for a great sports bar in the neighborhood. We showed up tonight at 6:20 pm with our 5 month old daughter. We were so excited to get out of the house, find a close parking spot, and check out our newest neighborhood spot. As we approached, the doorman quickly said that children were not allowed and we were not welcome. I understand not wanting kids past a certain hour but we were with our infant who was going to fall asleep within the next hour and the bar was no where near full. We were shocked at how we were treated. Left and went to daydreamer (shoutout to the hospitality there!). Don't recommend. Go to holiday for a Mexican martini that is worth the price tag and who allows a potato in a stroller. Really disappointed in Chalmers.

Super cute spot and bar food was tasty! The wings could've been a tad crispier but flavor was spot on. Bartender was nice. Bacon wrapped shrimp were delish and the patty melt too. Also loved seeing chill dogs hanging out, lots of TV's and fans everywhere.

QR Code menus that add an app to your phone without asking permission. Default tip worked out to 40%. Music represented are the more obnoxious old rock and country examples. Food is okay and misters were working. Will not be back.

With the location it's in, you have to make this spot reservation based. First time here I saw 2 people sitting at an 8-top table saying they were "waiting on others to join".... Didn't happen. Yes I understand it's new, but this is not the spot to go to for a spur of the moment dinner time decision. Tv setup is perfect and there's so much space for more tables, which made me more sad. Unfortunately can't see myself coming back anytime soon. Unless large parties can reserve tables or the seating situation is fixed. Hate it when people "claim" tables when their fully party isn't there. Also, when my group did get seating, we had to bus it ourselves.

I liked the wings. Wings were great. I was the only person drinking and I ordered a Paloma which if you don't know when you order a Paloma at places where it isn't featured/advertised my advice is to pass on it. My suggestion would be for them to up their Paloma game. Pretty cool setup with TVs and will be cool to see what back patio is like. The cement wall out front is interesting I'm not sure I want to make up my mind on if I like it or not, as a guy that has lived along Cesar Chavez for 5+ years sometimes u don't want to see what's going on the closer you get to I-35 when it comes to cars and people so I get it. Good use of the space as this used to be an old gas station that was a bit of an eye sore. I went on a hot Sunday and the place had a good crowd definitely a younger vibe to the clientele, I heard they're kinda tight on when kids are allowed in which is not uncommon over here at some of the bars. However make note lots of the neighborhood has kids and will spend $$ - I don't have kids but my neighbors do and u might be cutting out some good repeat business. The kind of groups that will come in on slow nights and spend good money.

Great service. Great atmosphere. Great food. Couldn't ask for more. The bartender, star, was attentive and very personable. I definitely recommend this place to locals or traveller's. I recommend the wings and the chips & queso. Will definitely be coming back.

Four cocktails and 3 shots for $160!! The drinks were all the same yet each was noticeably inconsistent, to the point we questioned what drinks we even were given. The shots were good but after they were poured the bartender began criticizing our choice saying the other option was much cheaper and tasted better yet they offered no recommendations before we ordered the shots or even after it was just less than mediocre
