Review: Chambers Hotel, New York - SilverKris

"A boutique hotel that doubles as an ambitious art destination, housing over 500 original works that blend emerging and international voices—from Amy Sillman’s whimsical pastels to Pedro Barbeito’s 3D pieces—with each of the 12 floors dedicated to an artist who created a site-specific installation, including John Newsom’s hummingbird mural on the eighth floor. Rooms and suites are calm and contemporary, rendered in a mostly monochromatic palette punctuated by playful pops of bright purple and electric orange, and feature welcoming touches like Tibetan carpets alongside industrial elements such as exposed pipes and concrete ceilings. The property is also expanding its dining offerings with the upcoming addition of a noted New York Italian restaurant." - Amy Thomas

This really was a great location for our four night stay in New York. We had plenty of space for our family of 4 with room not just for the cases but also cupboard / wardrobe space to unpack a little and feel at home. |We were a bit nervous about our two older kids sharing the sofa bed but it was really spacious and they found it really comfortable. The king bed was fab! The second toilet and terrace were the icing on the cake. ||The staff that helped us were genuinely lovely - some of the nicest people we met in NYC. Unfortunately I only remember Sarah's name but there were 2 or 3 others who were super friendly and kind. |We had a maintenance issue which was quickly resolved. |The facilities available on the mezzanine make it a really convenient spot. Loved it here!

Chambers is an OK hotel in itself. It is low staffed, but there is someone (usually) at the desk or door from 8a-11p. I had some issues with check in and getting into my room but the front desk person (Brandon i believe) was very helpful in getting it sorted. The furniture itself is pretty worn, but functional (reminded me a bit of a hostile), but it was adequate. I did like the rooms eclectic art works however. The best parts of this hotel is the location and size. The price is quite affordable for that area and proximity to trains as well as being safe and quiet. Its also roughly 300sq ft, which make it easier to enjoy when staying for more than a couple of nights. The AC was a bit noisy, but it would go quiet after its initial start up after a minute or two. Overall, it was a very good stay. We were out most of the time, but it being so close to everything i needed made my life easy, and that is key for me when traveling.

Beautiful readers:||Good morning!||A Thoughtful and Memorable Stay, Thanks to a Wonderful Team|Although I didn’t originally book a stay at this particular Sonder property, I must highlight the exceptional service I received from Keith, the receptionist at the main lobby. He was welcoming, helpful, and made a great first impression.||Over the phone, Jason and Hanna — whom I believe were assisting from Massachusetts — also went the extra mile. They provided outstanding customer service with kindness, calm professionalism, and quick responses. Their support truly stood out.||The Bed|The bed was very comfortable, soft, and perfect for a good night's sleep. I especially loved the pillows — they were just right.||The View|From my room, I had a direct view of the Solow Building. At night, the city lights made it absolutely stunning — a real treat to look at before falling asleep.||The Shower|I was pleasantly surprised to find Davines hair care products in the bathroom — an Italian brand known for its quality. It's one of my favorites, and it was a luxurious touch. The only thing I missed was having a hot tub.||The Lobby|The lobby was cozy and inviting — a perfect spot to read a book, flip through a magazine, or enjoy a cup of coffee with friends in the lounge-style living room. And thankfully, the property has an elevator, so there's no need to take the stairs.||During my stay, there was a minor issue with a double charge. Fortunately, Ms. Natacha, the General Manager at Sonder Chambers, promptly handled the situation with her team. Their efficiency and teamwork resolved the issue quickly and professionally.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Staying at Sonder on 15 West 56th Street was an absolute pleasure! The location is unbeatable—close to everything but still peaceful and relaxing. The room was modern, spotless, and had such a cozy, stylish vibe. Everything felt thoughtfully designed, from the comfortable bed to the little details that made the stay feel elevated. The self-check-in process was smooth and convenient, and the staff was responsive and helpful whenever I needed anything. I highly recommend Sonder for anyone looking for a clean, chic, and comfortable place to stay in NYC. I’ll definitely be booking again!

I travel to NYC frequently and this came up as a new Marriott option. Gave it a try because of the good location and reasonable rate. It wasn’t until after I booked I realized it wasn’t a true Marriott and they are only affiliated with Sonder through a newer partnership. ||There is no front desk staff the majority of the time. The hotel front door and your room is accessed through a mobile key. ||The room was ok but showing a lot of wear. The lobby, elevators and fitness center had a bad odor that was present for all 3 days that I was there. The room was fine though. ||Have been trying for days to get a copy of my invoice. Nothing was emailed, no one at the front desk, the app is unresponsive and have spent hours on hold. Totally ridiculous. ||Another colleague tried to rebook a stay there and was met with an impossible process and lost their money. ||The total lack of access to human interaction is awful.

I stayed at this hotel during my last trip with my mom to New york in February. The location, the staff, and even the condition of the room itself was truly amazing. The hotel is close to the subway, and even walking distances to the most of the major stuff. We had stayed here for two weeks, and every time we met Keith, he was just such a kind person and trying to help us with the biggest smile! Thank you, Keith! If I'm visiting NYC again with my family, I definitely will again go with this one for sure.

First time staying at a Sonder and we will definitely return! Our room was spacious and comfortable. The hotel offers a mezzanine level lounge with tables and reading material, water, replacement coffee pods and amenities. We love the ecological concept of being able to request maid service as needed, not daily. This hotel is located steps from all the upscale shops on 5th Ave and Central Park. You are a short walk to a subway station and there is a great food shop with just about anything you may require a few doors down.

I thought the hotel was great once I was able to get into the room. The front desk was unable to help me and stood until another employee came back from brake. After 15 minute the second employee was able to get me mostly checked in. Not only was getting into the hotel hard they charged my personal card, while I was traveling for work. I could not get them to correct this or to take the taxes of for almost 2 month. I had been on the phone for more that 6 times. The assistance on the phone was not localized and the attendants on the other side did not seem to understand everything that I was asking for. I will never stay at this location again!

Yelp
Nice stay walking distance to Central Park, Times Square, Rockefeller Plaza, MoMa and more. Check in was quick. Our accommodations clean and comfortable. Our loft could use kitchenette set up in room as it is missing a sink and cooktop. We have not tried yet but there is a coffee and restaurant. Mezzanine area is perfect for doing some work pre/post checking in/out. Negative is the elevator which stops at every floor. We would stay again.

Yelp
I'm writing as a guest and long time Sonder member about an incident that happened at Sonder Chambers the early morning of 12/12. I contacted Sonder Reservations line on 12/11 to see if there was any availability in New York City for the same night and the following night. I was unable to book through the app because it was too late for a same day reservation. I was informed there was one unit available in Battery Park. I noticed on HotelTonight that there was a unit available at Chambers, where I've stayed before at least twice. I arrived at Chambers and the front desk attendant informed me that he had two rooms available, but that the HotelTonight price was cheaper and to book it through the platform. I did, paid for the two night stay, and waited in the lobby for an hour for the reservation to show up in the Sonder system. By this time it was late and Felice 56 was closing for dinner. The attendant mentioned that HotelTonight customer support hadn't updated the payment in their system, but that he could take my AMEX, book the room through Sonder, and honor the same price of $1,512.00. I agreed and expressed concern I would get double charged, but he said not to worry, that I could just check with HotelTonight later to make sure the charge didn't go through on their end and that only the Sonder charge would go through. I went upstairs, unpacked, showered, and met a friend for dinner. I returned to the property around 1:30AM to find that the code given didn't work at the outside door. It was 27 degrees and I struggled to get in. Eventually, the night manager stepped out and let me in. When we went up to the room, my phone key didn't work either. He was able to let me in after identifying that it was indeed my belongings in the room. I got into the bath and received a loud knock at the door. By this point it was nearly 2 in the morning. The night manager said that HotelTonight reported the charge as fraud and asked to see my ID. I handed it to him and informed him that his previous manager took my AMEX down and booked through Sonder. A few moments later he returned with his boss, Vee Ortiz, who rudely informed him I had 20 minutes to leave the property or he would call the police. In 33 years I have never been treated so poorly in my life. I explained they had my card on file and that the previous manager made the booking through Sonder, but he did not want to hear it. His tone was violent and threatening. I had to scrape together my things and hastily leave the building, then walk around Manhattan for another hour to find a room available in the cold in the middle of the night. This experience was humiliating and as a Sonder member, I never want to stay at another Sonder property again.

Yelp
Worst. The room smelled of cigarette smoke. The bed was tiny. The attendants tho well meaning I am sure, unhelpful and unprofessional. We didn't stay. We left. Hugely overpriced. Dingy. Not even an umbrella to use in the rain. All for 1k a night. Your recourse for communicating about your experience is through their app sometimes with a bot sometimes with a human. It's your word against the subpar attendants who are not concierge, they just facilitate the app.

Yelp
This is a great location and the staff are very friendly...however, the bed was so hard it ruined our stay. Very painful to sleep on a mattress so hard it felt like wood. If they would change out their mattresses, I would give 5 stars!

Amanda K.

Yelp
The staff gave our luggage to someone else who took it to the airport. No apologies provided, no efforts to fix the situation and no one followed up after to make sure we got our luggage back. Our complaint to Sonder went completely unanswered.

Yelp
Dont stay here unless you are ok being talked down to by staff. After a delayed flight got me in after midnight, I went to check into my room and the front door of the hotel was locked. It said to type in the code provided through the app, but that didnt work. No one answered the phone and the front desk and after calling corporate twice, they finally gave me a new code (after an hour of standing outside. Once I opened the door, two hotel staff members were sitting on the lobby couch just hanging out. When I asked if they heard the doorbell, they responded that that isnt their job. They were incredibly rude and dismissive.

Yelp
Great location, reasonably priced, sorta cool hotel. I've started several times now. It's all very app-driven -- electronic keys, contactless check in and out, etc. Which takes some getting used to but is generally okay. Daily maid service is not a thing. And twice now I've noticed that garbage accumulates outside guest room doors -- a bag of old Popeyes fried chicken sat outside a door on my floor for more than 36 hours. Which is pretty gross. And the TV works through Roku. You can't just turn it on and watch CNN unless you log in and enter a bunch of personal data which is just a tedious chore. But I'd so recommend it pretty highly.

Yelp
This place is a great location rooms are nice Only a tad out dated and they have no room service amenities at all... that's why not a five. Staff is super friendly and welcoming

Yelp
DO NOT STAY HERE. I booked seven nights at this hotel but had to cancel my last five nights at the last minute and only stayed two nights. I communicated this to the front desk at check in and was told it was not a problem and my remaining five night would be cancelled with no charge (I was within the 24-hour cancellation window). When I got home from the trip I received an email from Sonder telling me they could not cancel the five nights because I booked through a third party (Amex). Amex called the hotel and was able to get my remaining nights cancelled. THEN when I looked at my credit card statement, the hotel had increased my rate per night for the two nights I stayed from $365 to $1200/night!!! They now refuse to honor the original rate I booked and refuse to refund me the money they owe. This should honestly be illegal, and I want to save anyone else from this awful situation. Customer service is a joke, no one is willing to help me, I was hung up on by a representative and still have a $2900 charge on my credit card...stay far far away.

Yelp
This "hotel" is an Airbnb style establishment. Extremely unorganized. They had 14 hours to figure which room I would get. Instead they made me sit in the lobby at 2am-2:45am. This place was a big mistake!!!! Don't book this place!! In the end of the story I'm without a room and now I have to find another hotel in the middle of the night. This place is a fucking joke.

Yelp
What an understated little gem of a hotel. And a great central location in the city. Just completed my 2 night stay here and have to say I was very happy with my entire time there. Unassuming exterior but once you enter, you're whisked away into an dark, intimate boutique hotel. The lobby throughout the duration of my stay was always SO quiet. The staff is warm, personal, attentive. The setup really made me feel like I was one of very few people staying there. Rooms are nice/clean/modern. They give you an actual key for the room ("vintage" the lady at the front desk joked). My only call-out is that they aren't entirely functional: not much space in the bathroom to lay out stuff (for all you ladies ready to primp) and the single vertical waterfall slowerhead makes you get a little creative with yoga moves in the shower to get clean. Also, we questioned if it was a fire hazard that the doors to the room do not automatically close? But everything else makes up for it. I especially want to thank the staff from the front desk to housekeeping, who were so sweet during turndown service. I also had an embarrassing 'lady' emergency and the staff were really kind about bringing up what I needed, even denying a tip I wanted to slip them for it. I left super early this morning with Keith from the front desk sending me off, and really left with an nice buzz from the experience despite being exhausted from being up at the crack of dawn. Super plus that MilkBar/Má Pêche/Fuku+ by Momofuku are right downstairs, and I also loved that, one night when they were closed for a private event, they played nice neighbors and recommended The Whitby across the street for drinks...which ended up also being wonderful.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel! Great location! Wonderful staff. We stayed here for 3 nights in December. We usually stay in the Times Square area but I decided to branch out to another location and I'm glad I did. Chambers is in a great location. Walking distance to the best shopping on Madison and 5th ave, Central Park, the Plaza Hotel as well as many great restaurants. Two of the best restaurants we ate at are right across the street. Red Peony an Il Tinello. I booked our room at Chambers about 6 weeks in advance and got a great rate. The hotel is stunning. The staff was wonderful. They only issue we had during our stay was the thin walls. I don't know if it's a New York thing or just a matter of space but we had a family with a young child check in next to us and all she did was cry, yell and whine the entire time they were in their room. To make matters worse apparently her bedtime was after midnight each night we were there. I called the front desk the first night to see if they could ask them to quite down, and they did. The next morning I spoke with the manager about possibly moving us to another room. They couldn't move us until our last night but they moved us to a suite. I suppose there was not much else they could do but if you are a light sleeper this could be an issue for you.

Yelp
It's really the worst hotel experience I ever had. I wish I've never chose here at the first place.

Yelp
The Chambers hotel is a charming boutique hotel in the heart of New York City. From the outside it doesn't look like much except for the oversized wood door and doorman. Once inside the door you are welcomed by a beautiful and comfortable lobby full of charm and warmth. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable, but don't bother opening your curtains. The view from both rooms that I have stayed in was just another building 10 feet away. The hotel is dog friendly and the staff was happy to accommodate our two dogs. Unlike most hotels, they don't take an extreme amount of money for the privilege of bringing your pets, only to stick you in a smelly old room. The Chambers hotel actually welcome pets. The staff were friendly to our dogs and even left 2 bottles of water on the floor along with a bowl. The room was also clean and didn't smell like cat. Our stay here was great, the only issue we had was with the room door. It was thin and you could hear everything going on in the common hallway.
google avatar

Jenny K. L.

Yelp
The hotel is in a great location, and has unique features like an actual key for the room, Saratoga bottled waters, free wifi, and the fact that they welcome pets but with no fee; plus, they gave our dog a bed, bowls with greenies and bottle water!! We also got a corner room with offered us more windows and they did a good job getting the flowers and champagne that my husband ordered in our room while we were away. There are some minor issues: the king size bed isn't really king size, the ceiling is bare with pipes, and cracks, the ac/heat seems to never stop running, and the bed doesn't have a frame. It leaves the room slightly unpleasant...but nonetheless those are minor compared to the positives! Plus, room service from Chef David Chang's ma peche downstairs is a really unique option!!

Yelp
We went there for a conference. Had a lot of trouble finding a hotel because the online reviews of most hotels were not so great and we had a dog that limited our choices. We chose the Chambers Hotel and we are glad we did so. The room and the rest of the hotel were very clean. The hotel staff were very pleasant and helpful and were willing to go the extra mile to make the customers happy. The location was great as we wanted to stay near the Central park. The charge for parking was reasonable and no extra charge for the dog. To sum up, the Chambers Hotel was great.

Peter M.

Yelp
Very positive experience. I was in town on business and had a client staying across the street at a hotel which is several times more expensive. I am not one that needs my room cleaned and serviced every day or one that orders room service. In between meetings, I am often back in my room doing work so prefer to be left alone after I check in. This hotel is perfect for that. Room was clean, staff was friendly, location was great. It's not uber hip and trendy and 'sceney' which is a plus for me.

Tim M.

Yelp
Do not book here. The hotel staff is impossible to reach; bookings are handled through a third party, a company called Sonder, owned by Travelocity. I booked a weekend here in March, with the option to cancel by March 30 in exchange for a refund. Plans changed and I had to cancel, which I did on March 23. No refund has been provided for two months. I've spent the last nine days pleading with Travelocity for a refund; they say they can't provide it until they get a response from the hotel. The hotel is not responsive. I don't know why they need a response from the hotel when by credit card bill says I paid Travelocity, but whatever, I'm in corporate runaround hell. I would strongly recommend just booking directly with another hotel and avoiding the corporate runaround.

Yelp
I was stuck in NYC due to a snow storm, needed an extra night hotel and found a room there. After the fun of trying to find the front door with the super understated sign, you walk into a welcoming lobby and friendly staff and really cool furniture. Loved the room deign, furniture and little design touches. I wish every hotel would figure out how to give you free water! Highlight was the massive walk in rain shower and high end shampoo / toiletries. Glad I discovered it and would definitely recommend.

Yelp
On our third day of a six day stay here and absolutely loving it! The location is fabulous: so close to Central Park and all the luxury shopping on 5th Ave. The little touches are everything - welcome cookies and chocolates at turndown, wine hour, complimentary cocktails, an art library, drawing paper, you can even get a PS4 delivered to your room for the teens! The housekeeping staff is top notch, and the on-site restaurant is fab. I love the artful focus on decor. Would definitely recommend, and absolutely plan to stay here again. And might I note: I am a Creative Director for luxury hospitality brands; so I know my stuff!

Yelp
I loved Chambers Hotel. As a person who actually hates staying Midtown but will do so for convenience sake when the theater is involved, Chambers was far enough away from the chaos & touristy BS of Times Square & the Theater District to make me happy. I wanted to be close enough to the Metropolitan Opera, but not somewhere that every time I walked outside I was blasted in the face by Times Square. Instead, when walking out, I was welcomed by Gucci & Henri Bendel. Ahh, much better! As you walk through the very heavy doors into Chamber's lobby you are greeted by a cozy yet modern scene, pretty much what you would expect at most NYC boutique hotels. The hotel's restaurant (Town) overlooks the lobby whose center piece is the glass fireplace surrounded by leather cushions on which to relax. The rooms are also your normal NYC boutique hotel fare - small, but comfortable & nicely designed. Each room is outfitted with at least 5 pieces of original art...kind of the gimmick of this particular hotel. The beds are comfortable & the rooms even have windows which you can open! I've stayed in alot of NYC hotels, but I must say, this was the first time I encountered windows I could open. Nice touch. I loved the bathroom...the waterfall style showerhead was fantastic with adjustable pressure. I've got a similar one at my home, but the shower experience at Chambers was just really great, all around. The service was friendly & efficient at Chambers & I even found the other patrons to be quite friendly & laid back, moreso than at many other places I've stayed at. If you're looking for a hotel in Midtown that is nice, but not outrageously priced & far enough away from the mess that is Times Square I would absolutely recommend Chambers Hotel. Should I need to stay in Midtown again I will absolutely return!

Yelp
I've stayed here twice and while I do like it, I'm not completely smitten. Whenever I go to NY for business, I usually stay at another nearby hotel that I absolutely love. I think it's the best kept secret ever and so no, I'm not going to give out the name. I'm selfish like that. Pros: - The shower. Yes, this might be the absolute best thing about this hotel. I have a love affair with their showerhead. Not that kind of love affair, get your mind outta the gutter. - The staff. They're all kind of young and trendy. But they're all super nice. - The interior/decor. I dig it all. The whole artsy feel of the rooms. The colorful murals on the walls. The velvet couches. Meow. - Room was clean. Maybe a little worn down in some areas but nothing too major. - Ma Peche is located in this hotel. Go get your world rocked by their pork buns. Cons: - The rooms are small. Not tiny, but small. Not bad for NYC standards but not great for what they charge. I usually pay considerably less for tons more space at my "secret hotel." - Both times I've stayed here, my views have been less than desirable and directly facing another building. I'm not sure how my co-worker lucked out but he booked the same room I did and got a terrace. Good for him, sad face for me. - My most recent stay, my air conditioner vent was all rattly and made it a little difficult to get to sleep. Tip: Don't be afraid to drink the blue bottled Saratoga water in your room. They're free!

Yelp
It kind of surprises me that this place doesn't have more reviews, however, after staying here I think I have a better understanding as to why. First off, we drove right by this place without realizing it was our hotel. And it is NYC, so its not like you can just do a u-turn, haha! It is kind of hidden on 56th st and doesn't stick out at all...it was really easy to overlook/miss. On the other hand, this is a great location as it is right off of 5th (great shopping) and still very close to central park...which was important for us. After getting set up with the valet parking (around $40/night) we walked into the hotel and were pretty taken back, but in a good way. The lobby is extremely nice, but also very small. You could tell right away that this hotel was not very big (maybe 60 rooms), which is nice because it keeps everything pretty quiet, and don't be surprised if they remember your name! Anyways, everyone was so friendly and even offered us a bottled water upon checking in. They offered us an upgrade to a king-size bed and we were given a room on the 9th floor (although I would have liked to be a bit higher). Each floor has a different theme and all the room numbers are on the floor right in front of the door. They actually give you a huge key instead of a key card, like all the rest of the hotels...pretty cool. I noticed this hotel had a lot of character and personality right away! Our room was a little over 300 sq. ft. The bed was extremely comfortable and they even have an in-room safe. I was a little surprised that the flat panel TV was the size of a computer screen...I really expected at least a 37 inch. Also, the rainfall shower was pretty nice, however, the space is kind of oddly used. Being a girl and all I found it a bit challenging to shave my legs....call me crazy I guess. Housekeeping was awesome and they even do turn-down service and leave a bottle of water with truffles! Each time we left and came back there a doorman was always there to greet us....it was the little things that really made this hotel! This hotel makes a for a great stay if you are looking to be steps from 5th ave. shopping and close to the park. Also, the overall service is exceptional and the rooms are relatively affordable compared to what else is in the nearby area.

Yelp
This is not the chambers hotel from a few years ago. It's now a Sonder hotel. The price is fine but this is a glorified air bnb. No turn down, fill your own water etc
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
When I checked in to the hotel, I noticed they take an imprint of the credit card. My card doesn't have raised numbers and my card number expiration date and 3 digit code is all printed on the back. The front desk said they had to take a photo copy of the card since they could not imprint. On the same day hours later I had 20 online attempts totaling $5800. I believe someone in the staff took my card info and tries to buy stuff with my card. Don't trust this place and don't let them imprint or do a copy of your credit card.

Yelp
Omg, I love this hotel. It is perfect. Staff is friendly in the best way...not annoying. Room size, amenities and location are perfect. I will be staying here again. Can't say enough & honestly, would like to keep it hidden.

Yelp
Nice cozy boutique hotel right off Time Square. I love their modern decor. Elegant and sophisticated yet unique at the same time. Everyone on the staff was friendly. From front desk agents to room service, my stay was exceptional. Definitely recommend if you're in NY and want a unique stay rather than a big chain. The staff treats you like a VIP rather than another customer.

Yelp
I go to NY quite a bit from 4 seasons to other fancy hotels. This is by far my favorite hotel. It's so conveniently located, quiet and away from tourists. Rooms are spacious and the shower is the best! It also has that Soho feel a couple blocks away from MOMA. Great little breakfast place and restaurant inside the hotel. Great staff too

Lauren R.

Yelp
This place had the best shower ever. It was one of those rainfall shower heads and you can adjust the pressure! Amazing. I would stay there again just to shower there. I stayed here in May 2018 and checked in very late. The staff was kind and accommodating. I liked the unique design of the hotel, but had some trouble in my room with the lighting. Maybe I was just tired, but I couldn't figure out how to turn off the lamps! I ended up unplugging everything. There is a mini-bar, but it was extremely overpriced. Glad I brought my own snacks!

Elegant. Refined. Slightly industrial chic, but somehow soft and cozy. From the moment we walked in the door, we received 5-star service. Complimentary drinks at e front desk didn't hurt. Our room was spacious. Cavernous by NYC standards. Luxuriating in the deep bathtub with the provided bath salts put it over he top. 5 stars.

Yelp
I had a really terrific stay at the Chambers Hotel this past week. I routinely travel to NYC and chose Chambers this time because of its location, and really more on a lark as it was listed on Rocketmiles.com. My good fortune -- the rooms were terrific and generously sized for NYC. The shower was phenomenal with great bath products (these little things matter when you travel a lot for business). The hotel was quiet and understated but classy and comfortable and of real substance and quality. Wi-Fi was free (!!) and the staff was extremely friendly and courteous. When I had to get a cab to the airport at 4:30am, one of the guys from the front desk ran out all the way down to 6th Avenue to hail one since they knew they wouldn't be coming down the side streets at that hour. That's service. I look forward to staying there next time I'm in NYC.

Yelp
Wonderful hotel. I had stayed at the W on Lexington the night prior to staying at the Chambers, and the Chambers blows them away. Although the hotel doesn't look like much from the street, you're greeted warmly the moment you approach (or as soon as you open the doors, if you happen to walk up at a time when the doorman is inside). They offered bottled water during check-in, and all staff members were extremely friendly and well-informed. I was here to help out with a business event (conference room rental + a suite upstairs for a small gathering later in the evening). One of the desk girls remembered the conference room rental and later asked how everything went. Every small request was handled politely and immediately. The suite itself was gorgeous and well-maintained, and I don't remember hearing a bit of noise from any other rooms. Also - chocolates and water were delivered with the turn-down service. If you get a chance, the terrace suite here is phenomenal. It's only on the 6th floor, but you get a huge outdoor area that's perfect for looking out at the city. Based on my experiences with NYC hotels so far (including others stays at the Sheraton by Times Square and the Cassa Hotel), I'm convinced that boutique hotels like the Chambers are the way to go. One more thing - the wifi was totally free, which is nice. Most high-end hotels love to tack on dozens of tiny fees, and it's nice to see one that doesn't.

Yelp
Came to this place to get away for a week with my wife after the storm Harvey, in Houston, Texas. What a disappointment. Lousy service. From checking in thru check out. Will definitely not return. Had to call twice for a bar of soap, the annoying flickering bathroom light, and bath mat. The beginning, checking in to the bell boy. I asked the bell boy to put my wife's suit case on the luggage rack, and his response was, "if it is not heavy." My advice for this establishment is for the management team, to train your employees to be more respectful, courteous, considerate, pleasant, and the list has just begun. We are not asking for a free night, nor relocating us to a suite, nor fancy vocabulary, just RESPECT. We have been all over the world. We are well educated, sophisticated, and not asking for too much, just RESPECT. What a disappointment.

Yelp
Where do I start?!?!? What a hidden gem!! BEST hotel I have ever stayed in!! The location is beyond perfect! Short blocks from all shopping/central park/times square. Now the service is impeccable...We had the pleasure of being taken care of by Jose, Ty and Beth! They were so awesome and truly treated us like royalty!! I cannot say enough wonderful things! The rooms are super roomy for NYC...and the best part are the showers!! I kid you not...just the showers alone is worth the stay!! BEST trip I've had. Thank you Chamber for being so amazing to us!! :))))

Yelp
I'm almost tempted not to review this place because it seems to be somewhat of a secret and I don't want to let the secret out. Stayed here with my boyfriend last weekend and I was so impressed! We got a great deal on Jetsetter and based on the price and what I've paid for NYC hotels in the past, I had just about no expectations. The people that work here are just amazing. I always expect a snobby attitude in NYC, especially when not paying extravagant prices. The staff gets to know you when you walk in and makes sure you're treated well up until you leave. I was expecting the usual tiny hotel room but was very pleasantly surprised. Nice size closet, big windows, high ceilings. It's not just a bed and nothing else, it's actually a decent sized hotel room. It has a modern warehouse vibe that I love, large flat screen tv's, very nice showers. And the glass bottles of water they give out are so classy! We were rushing in and out all weekend as NYC trips usually go, but I kind of wish we could have just relaxed and spent some more time in the hotel. We didn't even have a second to look around the lobby area until we were on our way out, but the lobby was so comfortable with couches and books all over. It would have been a great spot to have a cocktail. They were also very accommodating to hold our bags on our last day after check out, and didn't slip in any extra fees. Very VERY impressed. This will definitely be my go-to hotel in NYC...and the location is amazing! Right by the park, 5th Ave, great restaurants, it really doesn't get much better. Thanks Chambers for a great weekend!

Yelp
The shower, the shower, the shower, the service. These are the reasons you should stay here. The beds are comfortable, the staff helpful, but I want nothing to do with it, all about the shower. Also, milk bar room service, and ma peche happy hour.

Yelp
If you have to stay in the mess of Midtown, I highly, highly suggest this hotel. It's hidden on 56th between 6th and 5th and has everything you could want within 2-3 blocks. F train - 1/2 block. A, C, 1 trains - 3 blocks. Mangia, one block. Sushi across the street as well as a great tailor and dry cleaner. And its in the heart of 5th Ave shopping. So it couldn't be more convenient. But, the hotel itself is simply perfect. Let's dissect: 1. Rooms: It's small and boutique with only 6 rooms per floor, each of which are very big for NYC...and I'm talking the standard room. And if you get a room on the upper floors (total is 14), then you'll get good light. Otherwise, like anywhere in NYC, you'll be in the dark. Great closet space with an umbrella and branded chopping bag which turned out to be surprisingly helpful. Only wish I didn't have to call down for the iron and ironing board...but once I had it, they left it everyday. AND THEY'RE QUIET. 2. Decor: The decor is simple, streamlined modern...you'd never know it was last renovated almost 7 years ago. Warm woods with glass and steel and orange accents. Each floor has different murals on the walls when you exit the elevator which is nice and colorful. 3. Shower/Bathroom: Rain shower housed in glass with chrome accents and a nice large white ceramic sink. Loved it. Lighting sucks - it's too dim and I can't tell if I look good when I leave. I also don't like the way the frosted glass door shuts. It seems more like a partition. Nice tile and concrete floors and walls. 4. Restaurants: Ma Peche is downstairs which offers fantastic french-asian family style food. Get the pork ribs, summer beans, and rice noodles. They also have a Milk Bar for coffee and pastries in the AM. 5. Service: Simply THE BEST. Everyone and I do mean everyone is incredibly friendly and helpful. NO ONE acts irritated with questions. They'll ship packages for you, have their hotel car take you places, and they do everything very quickly. I never called more than once to have something sent to my room. They're also very diligent about letting you know when packages have arrived. They offered to pick up the pants I had tailored across the street. A big plus too is there's no trendy rif raff at The Chambers. This place couldn't have been more comfortable and accommodating.

Yelp
I am particularly hard in reviews on hotels. But I really like this place. First the location is superb. It is 3 blocks from Central park, and a short walk from Times Square. The street is reasonably quiet, and is packed with a number of restaurants and shops The staff is very acommodating, and the place has a very pleasant vibe. The rooms are also larger than the usual niche hotels with great beds and yes, as others have noted...an unbelievable shower A little bit of peace in a frenetic city

Yelp
Delightful little hotel. Rooms have unique character, clean, great rate, great location, no card keys but actual hard keys. (Which in my growing digital experience is becoming a novelty..) Minimalistic in its design. Incredible shower pressure. (I do enjoy a great sunflower head open shower deluge experience.) my typical stay is the Marriott so you can imagine my surprise at finding this little gem in the rough.. However there's really nothing rough about this hotel. room service is great, the attached restaurant is quick to serve, and tasty. Beds are clean, high count linens, and mattresses are ever so refreshing.. Each floor has a slight variation in hallway theme helping even the most inhibriated find their way home for the eve.. Highly recommended!!

Yelp
Excellent location, right off the world famous Fifth Ave., and right around the corner from MoMA. Quick access to Central Park, Columbus Circle, and Rockefeller Center. The hotel is a small boutique and hosts Momofuku downstairs. Momofuku Milk Bar is right next door and has delicious cookies. The room was nice enough, but I didn't feel like the bathroom was private enough - the door was frosted, which makes it awkward if you're staying with family or friends.

Yelp
Sleek, but comfortable hotel with a boutique feel. Very chic. I stayed here with a friend for a birthday trip. We got an amazing deal (about $169, almost half off the regular rate) from Jesetter. http://www.jetsetter.com/invite/marianaleung Loved the location, around the corner from Rue 57 (love lamb sliders) and Bergdorf Goodmans, Henri Bendel, etc.

Yelp
We heart The Chambers. Not for it's minimal, discreet location or the SEXY fireplace in the lobby. Or for the huge, spacious standard room with blackout drapes. Maybe it's the AWESOMELY FIERCE shower that sort of feels like being posied below an amazon waterfall. The service is what you would expect of a upscale New York hotel. They exceeded our expectations when the doorman, NOT the concierge remembered our name, hours after check-in and then offered to call the host at Spice Market to notify them that we were running late. Five stars would be in order if some of the small appliances in the room were a bit more modern and the huge leaning mirror did not do its best to make us look short, warped and wide. Small, romantic and top notch service. I wish Town. was still next door though. Ma Peche was uber young, too trendy, too bright and smelled like a greasy wok after a night of service. Paid $300 for a standard King with valet parking included.

Yelp
I tend to stay at this hotel when I am in NY and the rooms are one of the most spacious for a design hotel. Also, the coloring is not tacky and has a natural warmth. The amenities are nice too. The people who work there are also kind and helpful, so it is like having your own loft in Manhattan! Setbacks are that the basic rooms don't have bathtubs, and that you have to walk down the street for NYSC for the gym... (passes are handed out) But otherwise, hands down one of my favorite hotels in NY!

Yelp
Definitely the best part of the hotel are the windows. They are large, and you can open them. The rest of the hotel is not bad, per se, just not great. Things are starting to look a little shabby, especially when you look closely. Chipping paint, worn carpet, etc. The restaurant is pretty good, but again, nothing exceptional. The one thing that really did stand out however, is the dessert menu. Yummy.

Yelp
This is my first time staying here although I've been to NY a dozen times before. The main lobby is not big but it has a nice, inviting fireplace in the front. Staff are nice and friendly. It is a modern-designed hotel. The layout of the rooms is long and narrow, but everything is clean and nicely designed. They provide a nice robe and slippers. The rooms are decent-sized with 2 maid services. 1 in the morning to make the bed, and 1 in the evening to help you turn on lights, re-do bedding, etc. Nice touch. They provide free wireless internet access. I went during a relatively busy weekend - with corporate business rates, I paid $335 per night + taxes. I would recommend this hotel to others.

Yelp
Super friendly staff. The front desk is very helpful, polite, and friendly. They go out of their way to make sure your stay is as wonderful as possible. They are very knowledgeable about the area and what activity or restaurants are good. Decor is clean modern and overall lovely.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at Chambers Hotel with our dog for our anniversary weekend, and we definitely enjoyed our stay! The staff was very friendly, and I enjoyed the overall vibe and experience. Decor was modern, but still comfy. A few complaints: no recycling bin in the room, and little counter space in the bathroom. Other than that, we thoroughly enjoyed the amenities (including the in-room wine, champagne, water, and potato chips!) and our balcony (although we were expecting more privacy on the balcony). The location of the hotel is great as well. I'm sure we'll be back!

Yelp
Pros: the location! It's so close to everything any tourist, business person, or traveling family could ever need. Right across the street from the hotel is Henri Bendel. Isn't that enough? :) It's just barely on the west side, so if you want to do some serious 5th ave. shopping, it's right down the block. There's are F, N, Q, R, and W lines around the area, so if you get sick of the area, you can always just go wherever else. For whatev. reason. -------------------- Cons: They might stick you in an ADA room if they don't have availability, but other than that, the staff is very accomdating and friendly. ------------------- B-t-dubbs: Say hello to Joseph the doorman. He'll take care of you: luggage, bags, taxis, car service, he does it all. The General Manager at the Chambers is also quite a friendly character.

Yelp
From the second that you walk through those beautiful HUGE wooden doors, you will realize that you are entering a quiet, cozy little oasis in the city. There's an inviting little lounge area (with nifty modern fireplace and seating hearth that camouflages the elevator bank) in the lobby. The staff is welcoming and professional beyond belief. The art throughout the hotel is well-chosen and interesting. The hotel has a modern decor and the art manages to enhance the atmosphere without totally overwhelming it. Many (perhaps all?) of the floors have murals along the common hallways. There is a social/bar area (also functions as the breakfast room in the mornings) on the second floor that is stocked with an ingeniously-designed bookshelf/lectern (that also functions as the railing to look down onto the lobby,) stocked with a wide variety of beautiful art books. Very well-appointed and delicious breakfast buffet, including fabulous bagels from Balthazar (yes, I asked; they were THAT good!) If you're looking for more than coffee, freshly-squeezed juice, and pastry, there is a wonderful breakfast menu you can order from that has things like waffles with bourbon maple syrup and variations of Eggs Benedict. I think that they must have done some renovating since some of the previous reviews were written, because I didn't notice things looking particularly worn and there was an alarm clock provided in the room. Amazing attention to detail and thoughtful hospitality at this place, from a large roll of paper that functions as a clever desk pad to a mini-bar (basket, really) that includes condoms (!) along with the snacks and drinks, there is no need that the staff hasn't thought of. The very best, however, was the shower. I'm thinking that, in this age of water conservation and green-ness, that this luxuriant shower just CAN'T be legal. Seriously, the best shower I've ever experience in my life: very powerful downpour, like showering in a waterfall, with plenty of hot water. Absolutely no water pressure issues at this place! I did NOT want to get out of that shower! My only criticism, and it's minute, is that the metal-pulley reading lamp definitely favors form over function. A good idea, in theory, but, in practice, when you actually try to adjust it, it wobbles off the pulley track and really won't go up or down very far. The Chambers would be well-advised to invest in some new ones; these seem cheap and like something made in someone's garage, so they detract (only a little) from the (otherwise perfect) experience.
