"Where can you find fresh tamales, crawfish (in season), and some of the best crispy fried chicken Earth has to offer — all under one roof? Champy’s is the answer. The regional chain’s aesthetics take diners back to the back roads of the Mississippi Delta, and the restaurant even has koozies to keep that 40-ounce bottle of Miller High Life nice and chilly." - Eater Staff, Clair Lorell, D.R.E. Yelp
THE BEST chicken anywhere!!! Had the fried jalapeño poppers and tamales for an appetizer! Drank the 40's Miller High Life (Champagne of Beers). Morgan was a great waitress for us!!

Yelp
I'm getting back on Yelp from a hiatus to review this joint because it was that bad. And I don't hardly ever write bad reviews. As a matter of fact, this is my second 1 star out of over 60 reviews--whatever that's worth. I'm from the Mississippi Delta. Born in Indianola and spent my whole young life in Cleveland. I live in Jackson now and go back every year to hunt and visit my folks. The tamales at this Champy's were just bad. I don't know if they are frozen, or who they're getting their recipe from, but these aren't good Delta tamales. The meal was thick and gummy, the meat ratio was off. They were wet, which is on brand for Delta tamales, but like, they were also swimming. That's not the vibe. It felt like what you would expect from a place trying to transport something from where it's from to someplace else: like how Epcot is at Disney. We also had wings that were "award winning" and they were alright. I'm not giving out awards or qualified for that, but if I were: these wings wouldn't get it. Maybe we should've gone with the fried chicken, as that's what everyone seems to be hyped about. But the signs said, Delta tamales, so I had to. We all have regrets.

Yelp
Champy's is just a staple - kind of a "fall back" if we can't decide where to go eat. Fried chicken and tenders are always yummy! Champy's sauce is delicious ! Sides are really good - especially like the slaw. Tamales are awful - not sure who is taste testing these or why they're "famous"? That being said - you can't go wrong if you're looking for a casual atmosphere and good service.

Yelp
This was definitely a diamond in the rough. We were in search a quick but well thought of establishment. So, google led us here and fortunately we were not disappointed. The tenders and fish were a great size for satisfaction and fullness. The atmosphere was pleasant and seems rather welcoming for a nice quick little outing on the town. Even the sweet tea, which boasts of Luzianne branding, dotted the I's and crossed the T's! Champy's was fast and served hot to us which is great on the service tip. Great for game watching and lunch breaking, so stop by if you're for a good chicken spot.

Yelp
Our first impression was an unenthusiastic hostess who seated us in a empty room when everyone else was on the patio. It was around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday night. Our waitress came to take our drink orders and slyly tried to mention to the hostess that she didn't want any more tables. I've been a waitress-- I know what it's like to get a table sat two minutes before closing but LETS BE REAL 6:30 p.m. is still considered the dinner rush, there's no reason this girl shouldn't be taking more tables. I felt like we had imposed so I looked up the restaurant closing time to ensure we weren't being rude and it closes at 10 p.m., goodness gracious. On top of feeling like an unwanted customer, the chicken in my spicy chicken sandwich was tough. When you claim to have "World Famous Chicken" you better have a decent supplier. I thought maybe I was crazy but my husband's chicken chunks were inconsistently tender and tough. Bummer. The fries were normal. The Mac and cheese is something close to the soupy cheesy sauce that Panera provides-- if you enjoy that. The breading is okay yet thin and not super crispy. The heat from my chicken sandwich melded the breading to the bread itself, which was subpar to me. The grand finale of it all was waiting about 10 minutes from the time we finished our food until the time our server, Carrigan, came to bring us the check. She was too busy doing her closing responsibilities to worry about her table. Go figure. Too bad we didn't have the server of the 11 top next to us. That server was both attentive, accurate, and friendly. Her table was cared for almost as fast as we were. This place is average at best but earns a 2.5 stars in my book. We won't return.

Yelp
OMG.... Every year, when we pass through Chattanooga, we always stop in at Champy's. This has become our favorite place when we come to this area. Besides being close to our RV Campground, the staff is friendly and attentive, the fried chicken dishes are the best, and the gumbo is over the top delicious !!! Inside has so many things to look at, old & new beer signs, inside and patio seating, and dollar bills tacked to just about everything that can hold them !! . Today, Madison was our Bartender. Delightful young lady with a constant smile. We stopped in twice this week, while we toured this marvelous City. There is sooooo much to do & see !! Our first stop on Tuesday, 10/17, we ordered the 8 piece Family Meal with sides of beans & potatoes Salad. Delicious!! We took the leftovers home to enjoy another day. YUM !!! Second time around, (Friday), we ordered the Chicken & Sausage Gumbo & a two piece chicken snack. Enjoyed our meal immensely. Madison was working again today. Told her we were leaving the area tomorrow and said our goodbyes. Hopefully, we will see her next year when we pass this way.

Yelp
With big beers, decent fried food, and a laid-back atmosphere, Champy's is the perfect college spot. I finally made it over to Champy's on a Friday night - it was busy but not overly busy, so we were seated immediately outside. Our waitress, a student at UTC Chatt, and she was super nice and attentive. She really seemed to like what she did, which I appreciated! We of course had to order the fried chicken, since that's what everyone talks about. I got chicken tenders while my husband got a fried chicken sandwich. We've had a lot of fried chicken in our lives, but we were both pleasantly surprised with the chicken! Not the best we've had, but good and a good vibe!

Yelp
Champy's was recommended to us by a local, and we are so glad we listened! First, the parking is free. That's a big plus. When we exited the car, the incredible smell hit us, and that's when we knew we were in for an excellent meal. There are three dining areas to choose from: one is a three-season covered area, the next is a large bar area, the third is a smaller bar area. In the two bar areas, there are dollar bills decorating the walls. There are old pictures and artifacts. Service was fast. Sweet tea was spot on. The sausage/cheese/pickle appetizer could have been a meal for one person. I had the fried catfish platter, and it was perfect. My husband had the chicken nugget platter, and he thought the chicken was amazing. Our travel companions had the 3-piece white chicken platters, and they were extremely happy. We all left full and super glad we stopped in.

Yelp
What a fun and funky chicken joint. Some of the best fried chicken I have had . The green beans and mashed potatoes are down home cooking . I'm not sure what they were smoking in the smoker but it smelled amazing. It comes out hot and fresh. Downside there is not much for vegetarians. Be nice if they had some impossible nuggets or something for the vegetarian's out there. They also need to repaint their free parking spots, they are not mark well . Would love to come back, but it's hard when you have a vegetarian in your life there's not much for them.

Jennifer K.

Yelp
Stopped in here based on a friends recommendation and it did not disappoint! It was super busy right after we got there at 11:30 so we definitely picked the perfect time to arrive! Got the smoked sweet heat wings and the hot chicken sandwich! Both were super good!! Def worth the stop!!

Jessica G.

Yelp
We got some takeout - tried the 8 piece fried chicken and the gumbo. The chicken came in a paper bag with white pieces of bread on the bottom to soak up some of the oil. The chicken had a great flavor, a bit of spice and plenty crunchy. I really liked it. The gumbo was good but not the best I've had. I like how they separated out the rice so you could add that in. The location is kind of ehh - I'm not super familiar with the town but there were some homeless people not far from it camping out. They had somewhat outdoor seating (covered) with plenty of tvs. I would for sure come back and get chicken and maybe try some of the other menu items.

Izzy J.

Yelp
This place was so great! The staff was so nice, lots of options on their menu and the food tasted amazing! The inside was a tad loud but not bad. I definitely recommend this place to others, the food is very good!

Lindsay H.

Yelp
What a cool spot! Great location and a convenient lot next to it with ample free parking for restaurant guests. There is even a drive-thru we didn't notice until we left. Cool! You walk inside to a bar area full of high-tops and a lot of personality. This spot is an eclectic explosion of sports gear, merch, koozies for 40's, and walls wallpapered with signed dollar bills. We were immediately brought through a set of doors in a different area of the restaurant, which had low top tables and another bar. Our server, Emily, was super prompt, friendly, and patient with our weird kiddos. :-) Our kids really liked the sweet tea she recommended. We ordered: -12 piece family meal (1/2 tenders, 1/2 white meat bone-in): best breading ever! Cooked/fried perfectly. Meat was tender and every bite was delish. The family meal came with 3 large sides- -Mashed potatoes and gravy: clearly homemade with chunks of potato intact. Tasty! Gravy had a slight kick from the pepper. -Slaw: Only 1 of 5 in our crew enjoyed this. Very raw onion-forward. -Fries: Beer battered and fabulous. -Champy's sauce, ranch, and honey mustard: Ranch and Champy sauce were our faves. The Champy sauce tasted like a mix of BBQ and honey mustard.- -Fried Green Tomatoes: Some of the best we've had since moving to the south. No frills or toppings...just well-cooked tomatoes in that amazing batter, fried to perfection. Served with ranch. Large serving. Just wish they gave more ranch. We loved the casual, fun vibes that were perfect for a friend hangout at the bar or an affordable and tasty family meal.

Yelp
The fried chicken here is fantastic. Some of the best I've had! Grungy/ blues bar vibes with dim lighting and great food. All the services I've had here know what they are doing and are great.

Nghia V.

Yelp
This place was recommended by a friend. And I am so glad I listened. They have the best fried chicken I have had in a long time. The smoked wings were amazing, but the sauce can be better. We ordered 1lb smoked wings (8 pieces) with half buffalo and half sweet heat. And a plate of 3 pieces dark meat with cole slaw & green beans. The place is very busy but we were lucky we beat the lunch line on a Saturday. Even though it was packed, the food came out at a reasonable time. The wings were very smoky, usually when I get smoked wings, the skin is not as crispy, but this wings was perfectly cooked. Sadly, the sauce did not stand out and it did not have any kick to it, we had to use the provided hot sauce. The fried chicken was so juicy and not over cooked at all, like how a perfect piece of fried chicken should be. Our waitress were super friendly and attentive.

Nubian D.

Yelp
We were given recommendations to try this spot. Seems like a highlighted and very well liked place that keeps a crowd, whether dining inside or their outside patio area and / or pick up to go. There's dollar bills plastered everywhere, I'm sure there's history, but some of them had fuzz on them. I'm guessing dust fuzz. Anyway, they were entertaining to look at while we waited for our food. I wanted catfish initially, but then I thought I'm at a chicken spot, so I better order what they are known for. Our apps were fried green tomatoes, and they were absolutely delicious. We waited a while for our food to come as well. I had the 2pc white and hubby had 3pc dark, and our son had tenders with Mac n cheese. My wing and hubby leg were extra small. The chicken had way too much breading for me and fried crunchy hard. I couldn't taste the spice, but my son was fanning his tongue, and hubby agreed it was a little spicy. Wish they warned us as we didn't expect that. The mac n cheese was tasteful and great for a kid option as the noodles were spiral elbows. They do have them overly saturated in cheese sauce, though. We didn't eat much all around, and I decided to take back to the hotel. I'm so glad I did because we saw a homeless man, and I asked if he was hungry, and he said he was, and I happily gave him a container full of chicken and a few green tomatoes.

Yelp
Amazing and great food, great atmosphere and server.. one of a kind restaurant with little bit of everything on the walls

Marilyn A.

Yelp
Amazing chicken! So juicy and crispy, whether it's dark meat or white meat. Cole slaw and potato salad is good too. Really good food at a really decent price. We come here all the time on our way home from Nashville.

Dee Y.

Yelp
This was my last meal before leaving Chattanooga this weekend! And it was such a good option (I forgot to check in but...). The chicken was nice and crispy. The green beans were delicious and the mashed potatoes were also good. My sister ran in for the to go order so can't comment on the service. But a don't miss spot for fresh, hot chicken!

Yelp
Being as my music festival was about to get flooded out, I chose a new eatery to step into and stay dry. Although nestled into downtown Chattanooga, when you see the place you'll immediately imagine a southern country road eatery surrounded by kudzu and Spanish moss. Yep, it's right out of the pages of a Fannie Flagg novel! When you finally walk inside after taking in all the outside rustic details, you're enveloped in a sea of dollar bills on every imaginable wall. With colorful twinkling lights, bright colors, and 40oz bottle coozies, you absolutely know this is going to be an epic experience. I began the culinary journey with an appetizer of fried pickle spears. So juicy and fresh, the breading had a tough time hanging on. Now, let me stop here and tell you this place is known for its fried chicken. Not being too hungry, I opted for the gumbo instead. Wow! This gumbo was incredible. With large pieces of chicken and sausage, it was a meal in itself. This place will definitely be on my list for any return trips to Chattanooga. Gotta try the chicken, right? Here is a couple side notes: My waitress was only on her 5th day but, she was friendly, attentive, and deserved the great tip I left. If you like large beers, their 40oz bottles with a coozie might become your new tradition. Try Champys today! You will thank me.

Nicolette T.

Yelp
I drove by with the intent to stop by at another dining option, but was drawn in by the decor outside. "World Famous Fried Chicken," I had to check it out myself. It was very eclectic inside, with bright colors, lots of signs, and many $ bills taped to the walls. They're really known for their fried chicken & 40 oz beer. If you're brave you'll down one with your meal. They have a handful of beer options, and the cutest 40 oz. beer koozies. This place was very simple, but very fun. The food was fast and quick. The service was friendly. And the atmosphere is fun. It's definitely casual, and a fun place to hang out.

Jose N.

Yelp
Delicious fried chicken with really good sides such as baked beans, coleslaw and others. Excellent service every time we have visited. Ambience could not be more casual.

Tony M.

Yelp
Great food and good service. Homemade sauces are awesome. Chicken tenders are house made and delicious. Definitely recommended.

Benjy E.

Yelp
Loved it. Had a late lunch and wanted a local place with flavor. It was fun. Dollar bills and 40 oz. Koozies on the walls. Fried chicken was delish. The server was a doll.

Eric B.

Yelp
First bite of a chicken leg and I realized I could eat myself to death. The fried chicken is worth the visit alone, but get the Mac'n cheese and baked beans, you won't regret it (especially the Mac!)

Tran P.

Yelp
Probably the best fried chicken I've ever tried! First the place is really hip, I was lucky to get in before the rush so I got seated right away and it's a beautiful day so We chose to sit outside. After that a long line was formed and people had to wait quite a while. So go before their peak hours!! I picked the wings because it has "award-winning" attached I know it's quite shallow but hey it's really good!!! I have never got smoked wings that's crispy like this before, and the smoked smell is heavenly! Now to the best part: fried chicken, their coat was light and savory and crispy, but the inside is still juicy and tender. Oh dear G it's soooo good I am craving again right now writing the review!

Jamal J.

Yelp
The food was pretty good here. Me and my wife went while we were in town. The fried chicken and hush puppies were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The gumbo was a little bland but other than that well worth it. Also excellent service.

James C.

Yelp
The fried chicken is really good, very tender and juicy. Great service as well. Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 3/5

Yelp
Champy's Famous Fried Chicken in Chattanooga, TN, exceeded my expectations with their lip-smacking fried chicken, delightful catfish, crispy fries, velvety mac 'n cheese, and refreshing sweet tea. From the moment I walked in, the aroma of their perfectly seasoned fried chicken greeted me, setting the stage for a memorable dining experience. Let's talk about the star of the show--the fried chicken. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, it was a tantalizing blend of flavors that instantly transported me to the heart of the South. Each bite was bursting with succulent juices and a subtle hint of spices that made my taste buds dance with joy. The catfish, another highlight of the meal, was cooked to perfection, flaky and moist, offering a delicate seafood alternative to the chicken. The sides at Champy's deserve their own applause. The fries were golden and crispy, providing a satisfying crunch with each bite. The mac 'n cheese was the epitome of creamy goodness, with its rich and cheesy texture that left me longing for more. And let's not forget the sweet tea--it was the perfect accompaniment, with just the right amount of sweetness to complement the savory flavors. The service at Champy's deserves a special mention as well. The staff was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. They were quick to offer recommendations and ensure that my dining experience was nothing short of exceptional. It's always a pleasure to be served with a genuine smile, and that's exactly what I experienced at Champy's. While my experience at Champy's was truly delightful, I'm reserving that last star for a couple of minor areas of improvement. Although the food was delicious, I would have appreciated a wider range of seasoning options for the chicken, as some additional flavors would have added an extra layer of excitement. Additionally, the dining area could benefit from some sprucing up to create a more inviting ambiance. In summary, Champy's Famous Fried Chicken is a true gem in Chattanooga, TN, offering finger-lickin' good Southern fare that will satisfy any fried chicken enthusiast. With their mouthwatering dishes, exceptional service, and up-beat atmosphere, Champy's is a must-visit for anyone craving comfort food with a touch of Southern charm.

Yelp
Incredible Tendies! Visited about a year ago on the suggestion of a friend and this has become a go to stop every time I go through Chattanooga. They have a great outdoor seating area if you're looking to watch the game where you can just chill outside and enjoy the good day. The Champy sauce is also sweet and delicious, you won't be disappointed stopping at Champys!

Janette S.

Yelp
Very Casual and fun ambiance... service was good. I've always enjoyed their fried chicken... it is definitely one of the best.

Susan I.

Yelp
The food was great! The server was wonderful. Interior was very interesting in all directions. Restroom was clean, too! I would definitely go again and bring out-of-town guests. Fun place.

Ustr N.

Yelp
You can't go wrong with Champy's! Whenever I have out of town visitors, I take them to Champy's for lunch or dinner. Everyone loves fried chicken and Champy's does it right. The atmosphere is fun snd relaxed. They have plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy Chattanooga's great weather In nearly all seasons. Their margarita menu is tasty. Prices are great.

Marie B.

Yelp
Champy's was truly superb, to say the least. I saw it passing it on the way to the park on our quick trip to Chattanooga and knew I must have it. Outside alone is adorable and unique and the indoors doesn't let down either! Very southern feeling and I love the decor - especially the signed dollar bills! Very fun. We ordered the Half Chicken and two sides (Yes, they are interchangeable if you don't like their baked beans and coleslaw choice!) and it was plenty for my party of two! We ordered the hush puppies and a few additional sides as well. Chicken - Oh lord, my mouth is watering thinking about it. An amazing crispy recipe and the chicken was so juicy... like, perfect juicy. Green Beans - Did not let down! A little bacon and sausage in them, too! Coleslaw - I'm not the biggest coleslaw fan, but I did have their's and I really couldn't put it down. Has a nice refreshing sweetness to it too! Hush Puppies - Delicious! They are kinda small, I suggest ordering the five over the two. They had a nice spice kick to it - may not be for someone who doesn't like a little heat. Mac N' Cheese - This was one of the best Mac N' Cheese side I've had in a long while! It's not too heavy, wish we would have bought some to go! My only small qualm with my visit was the service, our server took along time to initially get to us to even greet us. I feel like we weren't there at a busy, busy time so a little wait is okay but I'd say we sat there for ten minutes easy before we saw her. Kinda impersonal and didn't check up on us much. All in all, it was wonderful and so would highly suggest this place! They say "World Famous" and I'd say there is a reason.

Sidra S.

Yelp
I went to Champy's for lunch an afternoon after I was craving some good ole' southern food! I ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich for my entree and the fried jalapeños for my appetizer and oh boy was it good! The fried chicken sandwich had a nice crunch, taste, and didn't feel overly heavy. The jalapeños had a spicy taste with a kick of heat. Overall, I was extremely pleased and would come back again.

Joey B.

Yelp
They advertise a catfish platter for 16.00. It's not the price and it was ok. Would I come back more likely not. The fish is actually swai which is a Vietnamese catfish. They should say it is that and not mislead customers on thinking it is a catfish we are use to here. Swai is alot cheaper than original southern catfish.

Kara S.

Yelp
Great food, great service, great atmosphere. I will venture there again very soon

Portia S.

Yelp
Interesting atmosphere. Young college vibe. Chicken was greasy, pickle spears were good but will take the skin off the roof of your mouth. The tamales had a good flavor but weren't hot all the way through. Perhaps more time in the microwave was needed. Not bad but not great. There are way too many excellent places to eat in the downtown area to ever suggest this place to a friend. The good news is the staff were great and if you are looking for a place to drink a forty and relive your college days, this is that place.

Monica L.

Yelp
Food was pretty good. Best thing was the green beans. chicken was just ok. I was expecting wow from what i read and heard. Seasoning was missing from everything. Now on to the lack of service. I'm yelping from my table as i sit waiting for my server to hopefully come back. It was almost 30 minutes before drinks and another 20 after that before our order was taken. We've been here almost 3 hours, not because we are having fun but because service was so slow. We are a big group and Samantha tried her best but the other girls standing around could have done more to help her out. I feel tips are a courtesy for good service and i'm a great tipper but $30 in tips on my bill alone for the service provided is ridiculous.

Conroy C.

Yelp
Decent eats! Reminded me of a spot I ate at regularly in college. Dollars on the wall plus Fried Green Tomatoes!

seiyeonLauren c.

Yelp
They are providing a great customer service, and delicious, fresh, and neat food. Interior was also so cute. Something like retro

Colby B.

Yelp
Champy's is pretty good depending on the day, Chicken Tenders are really good and the tamales are yummy! It's a little pricey for chicken but if you are craving chicken tenders, it's the place to go.

Christopher P.

Yelp
FOOD POSIONING Me and my wife had a spicy chicken sandwich, first of all the side substitutions are basically worthless serving amounts, we opted for a shot glass worth of green beans rather than included fries. The sandwhich tasted reheated as it was very hot inside and not crispy but still good eough not to complai; it was very pricy though but we are huge hot chicken fans and we enjoyed the one we ate at the ringold rd location earlier this week. After getting home we both had food posioning so this confirms in our mind that the sandwich chicken was reheated old food. thats passable at fast food pricing but when your paying $18 for a sandwich and side it's unacceptable for it not to be fresh! Never eating here again. The kitchens health standards just arnt up to snuff.

Catherine S.

Yelp
Service was ok, I ate at lunchtime and it was busy. I also needed to go back to work so the fact that they took so long wasn't great. However, the food was really good and they give you a bunch. It was worth it.

Shimere B.

Yelp
Champy's has great fried chicken and I highly recommend if you're in the mood for some southern comfort food. I only took a star off because sometimes the chicken livers are cooked a little hard and become dry. I also, don't love the ambiance, but I'm there for the chicken lol. However, I absolutely love their potato salad. 10/10!!!

Sandra O.

Yelp
Ambiance is cool and eclectic. Service is always good except for drive thru needs help. Chicken and Mac and cheese r wonderful. Hubby luvs luvs luvs the tamales. We probably eat here once every 2 weeks.

Rocio T.

Yelp
The food was delicious, service was great waitress was very friendly, the restaurant was very interesting with all the money on the walls very cute .

Grant G.

Yelp
We had a large group (4 adults, and 5 kids) and they were great. Got drinks for the kids quickly, made sure we had enough silverware and it was great that you can split a Family Pack how you like (we went with 10 tenders and 6 pieces). Food was tasty and quick, refills came and the check was reasonable (about $100 with tax and tip).

Kari M.

Yelp
Amazing food!!! Love the atmosphere and they have a great house brew!! We went in this weekend and had the catfish, fried chicken snack and the TAMALES!!! Soooo good!!! We will definitely be back!

Sherrie H.

Yelp
Pretty good and decent prices ,service mediocre! Fried pickle spears amazing ! Ambiance was ok
