New Orleans’s Best Sno-Ball Stands | Eater New Orleans

"This shop started as a pop-up with a clever name and logo — “Icy treats for a world on fire.” Now it is reliably open Friday through Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. on the corner of France and Burgundy (though coming soon, relocating to Louisa Street). Chance makes natural, small-batch, seasonal sno-ball flavors: lemon ice box pie, peach cobbler, rosemary sweet corn, strawberry shortcake, vanilla saffron pear — the possibilities are seemingly endless here. Follow on Instagram for events and news on the move." - Eater Staff

As New Orleans’s Last Remaining Food Hall Flounders, One of Its Vendors Seeks to Take Over | Eater New Orleans

"I noticed that after a city-mandated shutdown of its porch pop-up, Chance in Hell Sno-balls has reestablished itself a few blocks away in a more permanent spot at 807 Louisa Street; founders Lou Henry Hoover and Kitten LaRue say the new location isn’t yet the fully fleshed-out shop they plan to create, but they’re back to slinging sno-balls and will be open the weekend of September 2–4 from 1 to 6 p.m." - Clair Lorell

Central Grocery Set to Reopen in Historic French Quarter Location | Eater New Orleans

"A hugely popular three-year-old sno-ball pop-up, Chance in Hell Sno-Balls is facing its last weekend on its Bywater porch as the City of New Orleans is shutting it down; founders Kitten LaRue and Lou Henry Hoover announced on Instagram that they’ve been caught up in a pop-up crackdown while they work on permitting for a permanent location a few blocks away, and they’ll be open this weekend at France and Burgundy Streets (Fri–Sun, 2–7 p.m.) and expect to open on Louisa Street within the next year." - Clair Lorell

A Deep Dive Into New Orleans Pop Up Culture - AFAR

"A seasonal shaved-ice pop-up run by a duo that draws long lines in the Bywater for inventive homemade syrups such as chocolate matzo toffee, dill pickle, and nectar; its hours and schedule are intentionally sporadic, reinforcing the ephemeral allure of pop-up culture." - Leslie Pariseau

Google
This place exceeded expectations on all fronts. I got the lemon icebox. The ice was so light and fluffy and the flavor was fantastic. The decor was delightful, like walking into the circus. Will definitely go back next time I’m in New Orleans.

My new friends insisted that we get some Chance in Hell SnoBalls before I leave town. We arrived just at closing time to be invited in for one of the best desserts that I have had in a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG Time. They provided Excellent Service, delightful conversation and a TASTY TREAT! Thank you for serving us at closing time!

Google
I have been waiting to go to this place for years, since this was just a pop up on the owners front porch steps! Did not disappoint at all, and I can’t wait to go back on my next trip. The inside is so dreamy and y’all are awesome!

Google
Followed several recommendations to come here and was not disappointed! Great spot, kind staff, and delicious sno cones! Especially enjoyed the sweet puppers Monte & Carlo

Google
Little gem in Nola! Highly recommend! No need for condescend milk, the flavors carry enough sweet!

Google
So much fun! Thanks for having a sugar-free version for us diabetics!

Google
This gotta be the best ice in the city. It’s so soft, you will wonder where it all went. The line can be out the door but just know it will be worth the wait. You might as well get 2 while you’re at it because 1 just won’t do. The syrups are handmade and they come up with some unique flavors. I did a dill pickle and sour cherry combo that was out of this world. Like I said, buy 2 because having 1 is too close to none.

Yelp
We went to Chance in Hell Snoballs on Friday when they have their $9 triple flight sampler. We tried the Iced Mocha, Sour Cherry, and Grapefruit Basil. They all were delicious! We also got condensed milk on a few, yum! They are located at the Bywater Brew Pub but make sure you check their Instagram for hours and flavors. Since they're small batch and handcrafted, their menu changed weekly. It's a super cute walk up set up with great customer service.

Yelp
Best snoball stand in New Orleans. I've been going here since they first started in 2020 and absolutely love it. Wonderful couple running the stand and adorable dogs on the porch. Great and original flavors and plenty of vegan options. My dog loves the doggy snoball too.

Yelp
Chance In Hell Snowballs was wonderful and flavorful. Even the popcorn was tasty! We luckily found them yelp while visiting NOLA for the weekend and boy are we glad we found them! They are the best snowballs we have had! I had the Key Lime Pie and my husband had Sour Cherry. Hopefully when we visit again they will be set up and have a store front we can visit.

Yelp
I think the business is located at the owner's house so street parking is limited. It may be best to try and find parking a little ways away and walk to the spot. When you get in line, they have cute little umbrellas you can use since it's so hot outside. My friend and I took so many pictures with them The owners were so lovely and their dogs were so cute! I thought the snowballs were lovely. You can get condensed milk added on top for free (vegan is $1) so of course I did that. I think that pistachio flavor is such a gem. If you're looking for something out of the ordinary flavors, I really do think that's the way to go. If I had a complaint, it's just that it was too big, haha. But I think for the service and everything else, the price is reasonable. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
**make sure to check their instagram to know the hours! Often navigation/google says they are open when they may not be** Such a cute spot! Both owners are super nice and the snowballs are smooth, flavorful, and great portions for the price. They are even kind enough to offer umbrellas to shade yourself from the heat as you wait in line. Make sure to say hi to the dog if u see it.

Yelp
No doubt a five out of five. They have different unique flavors every weekend and vegan I will definitely be back. They also take cash app and Venmo which was a plus because I don't carry cash
google avatar

Kelsey P.

Yelp
If you haven't been here then you're really missing out! They have the most delicious snowballs made with natural ingredients. Grab a cute umbrella while you're waiting! The spoon, straw, cup and napkin are all compostable and they have a bin for you to place it in when you're finished. Love that! Will definitely be back soon!

Yelp
These two ladies are rocking it in the Bywater!!! Simple but very smooth operation currently being run off their front porch.m with unique and innovative flavors plus they can make it adult ;-) ;-) for two more dollars :-) Flavors change weekly/seasonally, today I had the Strawberries and Cream (adult) and added condensed milk which they offer at no extra charge. When I tell you that I zoned out while eating/drinking this snowball is no joke! Highly recommend it next time you're in the Bywater!

Travis C.

Yelp
The address is wrong...the address posted leads you to a home not a snowball stand. Too bad.

Yelp
Great sno balls with interesting well curated flavors. Staff are super friendly. They really deserve a brick and mortar location so they can really shine!

Lizzy H.

Yelp
yum! cute umbrellas to protect from the sun perfect nola summer treat. hope i get to come back some day

Yelp
Run by amazing People with a great backstory, phenomenal flavors and always finding ways to give back to their community

Richelle B.

Yelp
So glad to come across this cute place while walking around in the Bywater! I ordered the Dreamsicle and added condensed milk! It was truly amazing! There were also some other unique flavors that sounded great too!

Augusta B. E.

Yelp
Very difficult to find your location especially after your move. Stumbled on it in some miscellaneous post. Eatr is of no help, nor any of the other food websites.

Becca F.

Yelp
Love their flavors! They even have one for your fur babies. Open on weekends during the summer. Check their Instagram acct for info
google avatar

Kristal W.

Yelp
These snowballs are so delicious! I love them more because they are not in styrofoam cups with plastic straws and lids. Everything they use is compostable! The flavors are unique and not the typical ones you get at every other snowball stand. The colors used for the flavors are more natural, too. Overall, the snowballs are not processed/generic as the other ones.

Yelp
Chance in Hell is a cute porch spot in Bywater with extremely delicious and uniquely flavored snoballs. I'm always looking to patronize queer-owned businesses, so if you care about diversifying where you spend, they definitely tick the box! I made my way down here recently to try the malted milk ball / whopper snoball that was on limited release. And because I have a massive soft spot for whopper, it was of course delicious! But the unique fruited flavors like ginger basil plum are really where it's at. Also just big props to the service. I accidentally left once without paying (yikes) and when I messaged them on Instagram to venmo / apologize, they were super gracious. Make a quick stop by here soon (and support their campaign for commercial zoning so they can have a permanent Bywater location!!)

Jayden S.

Yelp
I walked here and there was no service being run, confusion on my end or what because this is odd?

Erik F.

Yelp
we had a strawberry snowball and an almond/vanilla snowball. both stuffed with ice cream. both were amazing, highly recommended.

Kim G.

Yelp
What a cute place! Snowballs are great and so are the owners. They sell merchandise that is also very cute.

Lisa C.

Yelp
SO SO good!!! I got the pineapple upside down cake flavor and it was fantastic. Snowballs are $6 each ( as of this review) but it's so worth it! Not only are the flavors homemade with natural ingredients, but also all the cups, spoons, and straws are biodegradable, so you're definitely getting what you pay for !! 10/10 recommend!!

Tami L.

Yelp
Still relatively new to the area but this is the best snoball stand so far! I got strawberry shortcake, peep show (toasted marshmallow with condensed milk and a peep on top) for my son and a dog snoball with low sodium chicken broth. We were all very happy with our tasty treat! This spot accepts cash, Venmo and cash-app, which is great since most snoball spots are cash only. The line when around the corner but they had parasols to provide some shade as we waited. Can't wait till next time to see what new flavors they come up with!
