The 2022 Eater LA Summer Bucket List | Eater LA

"I view Chao Wei Ju as a strong consolation for the beloved Pho Nguyen Hoang: their signature beef noodle soup is seriously slurpable with a light yet punchy broth, slippery rice noodles, and two kinds of tripe; I recommend sampling the house-made condiment counter, and not missing the Chaozhou rice cakes (doughy fried bits with scrambled eggs) and the meaty shacha-sauce pork ribs." - Eater Staff

The Best Dishes Eater Editors Ate This Week | Eater LA

"A San Gabriel spot serving a chiu‑chow‑style beef noodle soup that defies the generic “beef noodle” label: the lighter‑looking broth packs serious flavor and the bowl is loaded with rice noodles, two kinds of tripe, and tender meaty cuts, with an on‑site condiment counter offering housemade sauces that let diners customize each bite." - Eater Staff

🥇I really enjoyed the food at this restaurant. It's an authentic Chaoshan hotpot, with a delicious clear broth that has excellent flavor. The meat quality is fresh and tasty, and the prices are reasonable. The rice noodles have a perfect chewy texture, and the portion size is just right. The tea is exceptionally good. 💡 The chopsticks are a bit too thin and short, making it somewhat uncomfortable to pick up food. The dipping sauce can become too rich if you eat too much of it, and it's quite sweet - best paired with vinegar and chili sauce.

Have lunch here a group of friends here for the first time. I guess the atmosphere and the service is ok as expected at simple noodle house. Nothing exceptional of course. Food is ok, I had the house special 4 items noodles. Large bowl, hard to finish. Overall, it feels like everyone is in a rush, the place is loud like a market, waiters will rush you for sure. But again, this is expected. Nothing much to add, if you want a hot bowl of Chinese noodle, chiu chow style and you're in a hurry, then this is it. Reasonable price and lots of food! Parking is very tight so you might have to park on the street.

𓐐 A1 潮牛四宝粿条 house special beef noodle soup、B9 一碗萝卜牛杂 marinated white radish & beef tripe one of my fav restaurants. all the chili sauces are SO GOOD especially the garlic chili one. people complain about service and atmosphere, but the food is what matters to me :D

Google
Overall, the other dishes we ordered tasted pretty good and were enjoyable. However, I was disappointed with the double skin milk dessert. It cost $6, the portion was very small, and unfortunately the taste was not good. I hope the restaurant can improve the quality and portion size of this item, because everything else was decent.

Google
Authentic Chaoshan flavor! This is my second visit — last time I had hotpot, and this time I tried their signature clear beef noodle soup. The presentation is clean and refreshing, the broth is rich and flavorful, and everything tastes amazing. They also serve complimentary tea in individual mini teapots, a unique touch of Chaoshan kungfu tea culture. Very enjoyable!

Google
Very nice beef noodle, meat is good, portion is big, and the soup is very clear and flavorful. Parking lot is small, and can be hard to find parking spot during busy hours. The small teapot is very cute.

We wanted something hot today so we decided to eat here again. As we sat down, we asked for an iced water. And until we finished ordering, went to get our sauces, served the boiling pot, the ice water was still not here, so we have to asked again. And they gave us milk custard when they brought us plates. We didn’t order so we asked was this a new item they offer here. The server said in a very impatient and rude way“totally up to you” and we got even more confused. So we asked whether this is free, and she said of course not. Then she found out she served the wrong table. She didn’t say sorry and just took the milk custard from us. We ordered the combo A and the beef cube fried rice. The fresh cut wagyu beef had no marbling at all and we can’t even differentiate it from the fresh cut beef. They were both very tough and hard to chew. The only good meat they have here would be the beef shank. The beef fried rice was a disaster too. No beef in it at all and it had no taste so we have to asked them to recook it with salt. Later, we asked for a new bowl to mix our Kway Teow, and the server asked why we don’t use the dirty small bowl we have. Like excuse me? You asked customer to use dirty bowl when customer asked for a new one? And crazy thing was when we asked to pay, the server said “you don’t want the rice right”, when we left almost the entire thing uneaten. The owner should retrain all his/her employees with good attitude and common sense. Would not recommend to anyone.

Google
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ MY FAVORITE SPOT for Chaoshan style beef soup in LA! Literally everything I’ve tried here is so good 😭 We keep coming back! 🍲 Combo A (Beef Hotpot) Our go-to choice! Savory, flavorful soup that’s exceptionally comforting, especially on a cold chilly day. Add Kway Teow (Rice Noodles) for the ultimate satisfaction! (Soak it in and take it out quickly, don’t leave it boiling for too long) 🍢 Pan Fried Taro Cakes Crispy and savory on the outside, chewy and sweet (and hot!) on the inside. I love this appetizer (deliciousness loaded with carbs lol)!! 🍢 Special Chaozhou Platters is a solid choice as well! More variety to try out. 🍖 Shacha Sauce Beef Ribs Sauce-flavored and delicious, satisfying choice for the carnivore cravings. Note the potion is big- it comes with 2 ribs. Just writing this makes me want to go back… 🥺 Please give this place a try and you won’t regret it!

Yelp
服务态度差 尤其是那个说粤语的AmyWong女士对客人极度不尊重 说话盛气凌人 甚至和客人大声爭吵 让人不能接受 在你们改变此种情况之前即对待客人的恶劣态度 我们不会再去消费

Yelp
Probably one of if not THE BEST noodle spot I've been too. I've lived in the Bay, Vegas, and now LA as a fellow Chinese American, and can confidently say the authenticity and taste profile of the noodles here are out of this world. Definitely go for their signature A1 noodles, and add oysters pancakes if you are extra hungry.

Yelp

Yelp
It was my first time at Chao Wei Ju and most likely the last time... I'll start with the positive notes: the beef skewers (not pictured) were really good, likewise the beef fried rice was yummy too. Next, the fried tofu is pretty dry, but the fish balls were alright. There was plenty of seating, both booths and tables. During the lunch hour, the line was getting pretty long but my family was already seated. Here comes the not so great part. The service was uncomfortable and awkward. Once the bill came, my dad was ready to pay with card. Mind you, there's even signage that says they accept card payments. However, the server told us that their wifi is down so they cannot accept card payments at this time. That could've been communicated to us before we sat down and ordered. We would've gone elsewhere since we didn't have cash. My dad was going to head to the bank while we sat and waited for him to come back, but then the manager said that she can take Zelle. My parents don't use Zelle, but luckily I do. Once that was covered, the manager approached me for not tipping. For one thing, I didn't have cash. For another, the service we were provided did not earn a tip.

Yelp
I've been to many restaurants with various personalities from waitresses but this one is by far the worst!! Our waitress rushed us to order even though half of the party wasn't ready. I told her to just put in the current order and we'll finish the rest later since half of us were still deciding. She kept insisting and gave side eyes though I repeatedly told her we didn't mind the wait if it came to it later on. Instead, she went to the other side of the table and consistently urged the other half to hurry up to choose. I found that very upsetting and definitely irritated my family and me because why was she in such a rude rush? It was even worse when she started cleaning our table when we weren't even done with our food. It really made it seem like she wanted us out of there. There were plenty of empty tables around the restaurant and mind you, there was no line!! So I genuinely don't understand why she specifically targeted our group and lacked patience! Regarding our food, it was decent (6.5/10). Their noodle soup tastes like a nice homemade meal and their house-made chili garlic oil definitely gives it a nice kick. ***I do want to highlight that their item A1 looks absolutely nothing like what they served us when compared to the menu.*** I grabbed a menu so that I could ask someone (not our waitress) if that was the same item (she said yes it's the same). I still wanted to look at the menu but our waitress reached to my thigh to attempt to take it away. I held on to it and told her I was still looking. Honestly so crazy to me that she even begun to take it in the first place when it was still on my lap!! All in all, this place has decent food but that worker definitely needs to work on her patience and customer service skills. I didn't get her name but she has reddish hair that went above her shoulders. I get that the excuse would be "It's an Asian restaurant, that's how you know food is good" but dang, this isn't even defendable imo. There's a complete contrast between that saying and whatever she was doing to us.

Yelp
There was a long wait but there's lots of tables inside. The staff only speaks Chinese so it can be difficult if no one in your party speaks it. They have a small parking lot in the back. The tea cups are super small, they're like shot glasses lol. The beef noodle soup was good and the hot pot was good.
google avatar

Yelp
I came in thought it's Pho noodle place but turn out it's Teochew beef rice noodle soup place. I ordered A1 house special rice noodle soup with beef not bad at all! Tender, flavorful beef . I'll be back to try hot pot . Prompt attentive service and clean interior .
google avatar

Miranda C.

Yelp
I ordered A2 beef noodle soup and the beef wasn't as tender as I would like. The soup tasted very clean and light. The noodles were silky smooth. They have these cute tea pots and cups if you order tea! They have a sauce bar so you can make your own sauce. The interior is very clean and it's a comfortable place to dine in. The food came out fast which is a plus!

Yelp
Never see the service like that, everyone has bad face, have empty tables, but still let wait! Waste time ! Boss needs fire the waitress! !

Yelp
We kept passing by this restaurant and been wanting to try it out since they remodeled it from a Vietnamese restaurant to a Chinese noodles restaurant. It wasn't too busy when we arrived. We ordered the A10 Beef Tripes Noodles Soup, A1 House Special Beef Noodles Soup, & A4 Fresh Cut Wagyu Beef Noodles Soup for entrees. Ordered the B1 Oyster Pancake and C2 Fried Beef Cube Skewers for appetizers. Got the D11 Double Layer Milk Custard for dessert. It came with complimentary Kung fu tea in these small tea cups and tiny tea pots. Everything tasted great, especially the oyster pancake that has fish sauce to dip it with. The broth was flavorful and not too oily. They have a sauce station where you can choose from satay, sacha, garlic, and other sauces, onions, scallions, etc. Good and quick service. Limited parking in their small lot and limited spaces on the street. We will definitely come back to try their other menu items.

Yelp
The noodles were bouncy and the beef slices felt very fresh like it was cooked just right using the hot broth. The broth itself was light but very flavorful, adding a bit of the garlic sauce, chili sauce, some chacha sauce for the nutty flavor and it's perfection. While the ribs were not fall-off-the-bone tender like many expected, they were all pretty soft and flavorful, probably had been simmered in the broth for quite some time. And for all dine-in customers, everyone would receive a complimentary hot tea in a cute pot-and-cup set

Nina Z.

Yelp
The food is ok but way far from being good. The service is VERY BAD!!!!! They spilled the plate when cleaning without saying a single sorry. Also they blamed us for not finishing the food (only two slices of pancake are left), and that's because it tastes bad.
google avatar

Yelp
Affordable prices and quick service, but it felt rushed, resulting in the meat not being stewed long enough and being a bit tough - a bit disappointing. If you're not sure what to order, go for the House Special Beef Noodle Soup. I thought the Shacha Sauce Beef Ribs were the best dish of all. Unfortunately, they weren't stewed long enough, and the meat was tough to get off the bone. The Fried Beef Cube Skewers were a bit tough; they would have been better if cooked a bit longer. The Special Chaozhou Platters, featuring fish cake, tempura, and fried tofu, were decent but not exceptional. The Hometown Fried Tofu was alright, but honestly, the ones I've had at Japanese restaurants are far superior. The oyster pancake was a little dry; it would have been better with a bit more moisture. It seems that people in Chaozhou really like drinking kung fu tea in tiny cups.

Yelp
I'm extremely disappointed with the service. Constantly rushing customers and repeatedly asking for payment is rude. You can't expect all your customers to finish their meals quickly, some people like to take their time. Also, prioritizing table turnover over customer experience is not a great approach
google avatar

Yelp
4.5/5 Beef rib rice noodles ($15.98) here are a must try!! Chao wei ju is 潮汕 (Chao shan) food, which focuses on freshness, and you can taste here in the hot piping broth and fresh cut beef! They also serve complimentary tea if you're dining in. I always get the beef rib noodle soup because the ribs here are marinated and cooked in their house made satay (shacha) sauce. The noodles here are a soft, slightly wide rice noodle. (Just fyi if you're thinking of the round rice noodles.) There's a condiments station where you can get that housemade shacha sauce, garlic and chili sauce (also made in house) along with green onions and cilantro to compliment your dishes. They even sell the sauces in jars if you want to bring some home! The marinated white radish and beef tripes ($9.98) are also very flavorful. The raddish had soaked up all the meat flavors. I do wish the bowl for this item was bigger... In general, the appetizers can be smaller portion and some, like the oyster pancake (not a lot of oysters), doesn't do well in terms of value + taste. So it can be trial and error here. Nonetheless, this is a great place to dine in with the complementary tea, condiments bar with house made sauces, and to just enjoy the food, especially noodles, as soon as possible.

Yelp
5-stars for that bowl of house special beef noodles soup. Authentic and delicious. Tender meat & tripes.

Yelp
Came on a Sunday and it was packed! Was craving soup and this hit the spot for a comforting clean broth of soup with rice noodles. I ordered the wagyu beef noodle soup and the beef was super tender and soft. I love the sauce options at the front and unlimited green onions and cilantro.
google avatar

Nancy B.

Yelp
The food was terrible. The beef meatballs aren't even as good as the ones from 99 Ranch. The meat doesn't look like authentic Chaoshan-style hot pot at all. It was really awful -- I'm never coming back again. On top of that, the staff were impatient and quite rude.
google avatar

Leticia L.

Yelp
Visited Chao Wei Ju with my sister this past weekend and it exceeded our expectations. We arrived at around 3pm and we were seated right away and given hot tea. Their menu is pretty extensive, main ingredient in a lot of their dishes is beef and fishball. They have two sauce stations where you can get onion, cilantro, chili oil, and their special sauce. The soups were flavored to perfection and loved how clean the broth is. Will definitely be coming back to try their other dishes.
google avatar

Yelp
First time trying out this place even though it has been around for a quite a few years. It's a clean and spacious environment. Parking spaces are very limited (way not enough comparing to the restaurant capacity). The noodle soups were great and they are so far the closest to the authentic chao zhou soup taste in town. However, skip the Special Chaozhou Platters. None in plate is a Chaozhou item and it is way over priced. This is an extreme disappointment. Service part got very interesting. The ladies were nice first, but we were rushed with the check when we were not even done with eating. Then the lady started cleaning our table while I was still eating my noodle. Our entire dining time from entering the door to them giving us the check was less than 20 mins. What is the rush?! I had to "inhale" my food when dining in your restaurant?! I got pretty upset and did not finish my food then left. Restaurant with near authentic taste is not easy to find, but if the restaurant cannot hire people who have the proper serving etiquette, then you will lose customers gradually.

Yelp
The herbal chicken soup had amazing flavor, and there was a great complimentary Oolong tea, but portions were inconsistent, and I was disappointed. I dined in with my parents late afternoon on a weekend. Let's just say the expectations vs reality of the experience wasn't what we expected. Let's start with the good. Their complimentary Oolong tea set was a great start to the meal. Oolong tea is usually very rich and nutty, but this one was a bit more light and almost floral. I enjoyed it a lot! I also appreciated that they provided a sauce station for their diners (for sauce connaisseurs like myself that love to DIY their own sauce) that included fresh cilantro and green onion to compliment the meal. Now more of the fall-out. We ordered the Combo C Hot Pot, which was a herbal soup that came with marbled beef and chicken. Note the photo on their menu and online displays a full plate of beef slices and a whole chicken on it. Their menu text did indicate it was 1/2 a chicken, but our soup did not even have 1/4 of a chicken. The pieces were small and dainty; and a huge letdown from what was expected and what the photo displayed. Although the portion wasn't what was expected, I did enjoy the depth of flavor in the soup. I gotta say, it was what saved the whole experience. Also, the full plate of beef slices in the photo? We got 1/2 that portion in the photo. And all for $55, the Combo C Hot Pot is not worth it. There were a lot of waitresses working in the middle of the day, and they didn't all seem to be on the same page. Because our hot pot portion wasn't up to par, I asked about their Fried Beef Cube Skewers, how big it was, and if it was shareable. One of the waitresses told us it was 3 skewers and emphasized only 3 skewers, when their menu said 5 for $9.99. I ordered it anyway. They ended up bringing us 5 skewers instead (great) but the whole thing was confusing. When we asked that we thought it was 3 skewers, another waitress said it was 5. I mean, I will take 5 skewers, totally, but I can't help but remember another waitress specifically told us it is only 3 skewers. I can only laugh it off. Other than the confusion, the beef skewers were big cubes of beef, and seasoned to be a little smoky and spicy. The 5 beef skewers for $10 is worth the portion and the price. I will debate coming here for a second try and will probably try other dishes instead.

Yelp
Very nice beef noodle, meat is good, portion is big, and the soup is very clear and flavorful. Parking lot is small, and can be hard to find parking spot during busy hours. The small teapot is very cute.

Yelp
Came here to try out something new. The place was clean and everything seems much more costly than other nearby places. I then see why as they try to put in better quality, presentation etc to their food. I will say it was a bit better in effort and the whole kung du style tea set offering but for much more in their prices, I would expect much more including the ambiance which was not matching up to it. The food and tea may be of a bit better quality but flavor was mot much more of better flavor enough for me to pay more here to stick with the other mom & pops. The oyster pancake was good though and if you prefer blander soup bases, then this place is for you. Service was good but i would not say it's fancier either. Their parking is descent and enough as it's their own private parking lot. I wouldn't come back sadly as it is a bit costly for what i get and happy with my other go to places. I will say it's a good place to try at least once and some may feel its worth paying for. Just nothing that sparks out of the norm for me.

Yelp
[ Food ] I ordered A1. House Special Beef Noodle Soup and it was decent, some of the meats were chewy. The broth was nice and light though, not greasy. The Fried Fish Cake was decent as well. [ Service ] The customer service was really good, the ladies were attentive and nice. [ Parking ] They have their own parking lot so that's convenient.
google avatar

Andrew L.

Yelp
The beef hotpot was good but wasn't great. I'd call it maybe 70% authentic chaoshan style. The way the meat was prepared was not authentic. It's a somewhat minor detail though. Taste-wise it was overall a good experience, service was also quick. Highly recommend the noodles though! They are really delicious and not too greasy.
google avatar

Trinh T.

Yelp
This is actually 4.5 stars! We ordered the A1 noodle soup and ribs. It was so good. The self-serve sauces were bomb! My favorite was the garlic chili. The noodle soup was clean and refreshing but still very flavorful. The ribs were also very good, just a tad bit chewy. The place was clean and relatively busy on a Monday night. Service was also very attentive. 10/10 would recommend trying!

Yelp
I was waiting for 45 mins. A lot of party left cuz the long wait. They never call me or notified. When I realized another party after me came in, I asked her, she said since there a lot of people left already, she didn't realize I am still there. And said why I don't tell her? Please tell me if it's my fault? Or cuz she didn't even check and just call whatever big party? Well , how much I love the food but I won't come back. I am sure others will love to come. Wish you luck

Yelp
The noodles were good and service was excellent. The oysters pancake was soggy and too salty. I would recommend sticking with the noodles or hot pot.

Yelp
If you can't read Chinese, the menu can be pretty misleading with translations and photos. I wish I had looked harder before ordering Combo B with a friend, since it was filled with innards which were pretty much not touched. The resulting broth was quite rich but not appetizing since it didn't fit either of our palates. We ordered a sampler that contained fried tofu, fried fish balls, and sauce. We also added kway teow for some carbs. I'm glad I did, otherwise we wouldn't have been too full. The sampler felt quite cheap with a high profit margin, and the meal didn't feel very filling or worth it. Service other than extra broth was pretty much nonexistent, and the restaurant felt like it was run to efficiency. Food in, food out, people in, people out. Despite having a relaxed atmosphere, the pace at which food moves inside definitely makes it feel more rushed. We did enjoy their tea, though, which was tasty!
google avatar

Scarlett H.

Yelp
If you like beef, this place is Great value! And if you happen to like Asian noodles, then this is a great place to try. The cuisine is Chao Zhou, or in their own dialect, Duoju. It is similar to the Vietnamese pho but with some Chinese influence. Right after you sit down, they'll serve tea in cute small tea pots and tiny cups. I love the pea-green color of the set. Oh, and the tea is free! Many different choices on the menu, but mostly beef (different parts) and tripe. Most of them are flavorful- those with brisket and tripe have a heavier taste. Love their ribs! Very satisfying for cravings of meat. Service is the typical Chinese restaurant no-frill type - they don't do small talk or try to befriend their customers. They are just there to work and they are damn efficient! It's a popular place so often crowded in dining hours. They have a small parking lot on the side but it's often full. Street parking on Valley Blvd is possible but not easy; side streets may be another option.

Yelp
The beef is fresh and tender/ chewy. The noodle is just cooked right. Super fast services. Good for a quick lunch!

Miu T.

Yelp
I've come here countless times. Whenever I crave a light, comforting bowl of soup with minimal seasoning especially on a rainy day ,this is my go-to spot. The broth is clean and delicate, perfectly paired with fresh beef slices and beef meatballs. Dip it all in their Shacha sauce, and it's an unbeatable combo. They also serve a nourishing herbal chicken hot pot, which is great for boosting your immune system or simply warming up. Just a heads-up: the staff don't speak much English, but they're always kind and eager to help. Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambience: 4/5
google avatar

Wen D.

Yelp
Famous for their beef bone soup, the rich, hearty broth was nothing short of exceptional, bursting with deep, savory flavors that warmed the soul. Many items are cooked with the soup. Fresh , clean , authentic Chaoshan taste
google avatar

James W.

Yelp
Hidden gem; their noodles/broth are super flavorful. It's a great spot for a hangover food (hot and "heartwarming" for the lack of a better word). I dip everything in their 'Sha cha' sauce that you can service yourself with. It's beyond delicious... I've even eaten two bowls of noodles in one sitting. They're known for their hot pot apparently, but I've yet to try. I'd imagine it's just as good as their noodles. It typically comes with "fun," but I opt for the "mian" which comes with wonton noodles. The oyster pancake is good too, but I'd definitely just order another bowl of noodle because it's that good. I will say their fried rice had a good aroma, but it lacked in flavor (no salty enough surprisingly). You're also always served with a petite tea kettle which I appreciate.

Yelp
3.5 stars rounded up to 4 stars. Came here on a weekday after 8pm and the restaurant was packed. Luckily, we were able to get seated after around 15 mins' wait. House Special Beef Noodle Soup - The broth was clear and flavorful. The ingredients were decent. Good bowl of noodle soup but nothing extra special. The restaurant had a self-served sauce bar and all the sauces were fantastic. I especially loved their chili garlic sauce. Made everything tasted better! Handmade Fish Dumpling Soup - This wasn't the fish dumpling I was expecting. I was thinking the kind I had in Hong Kong where the skin of the dumpling is made with fish. The version here was more like minced fish shaped into balls. Beef with Shacha Sauce in Dry Noodles - This was great tasting. The Shacha sauce was fantastic. Oyster Pancake - The egg omelet was very thin and there was very few oyster pieces. I would not order that next time. Overall, decent eatery and quite unique with all the Chaozhou dishes. A lot of people were having hotpot as they had many special cuts of beef. Their sauces were definitely excellent so don't miss them!

Yelp
Service is good, they have a lot of people working, refill the tiny tea pot periodically, everything is better than expectation. Food is ok, beef ball is one thing I would recommend now, will explore more items later. The restaurant is relatively new so everything still looks very fresh and clean. Kudos to the cleaningness of the restrooms.

Yelp
The service attitude was extremely poor, the guest knocked a plate of our beef on the ground, and the waiter didn't come to apologize and compensate for a long time, and it took several times to make up a plate for us

Yelp
Ordered the house special noodles which comes with various meats and I was in particular impressed by the tripe. Two types. Both perfectly cooked. The blanket tripe in particular was tender yet had that slightly bouncy crunch. I haven't been impressed by tripe in a really long time. The soup broth was also very light yet flavorful. The noodles cooked just right. The slice beef wasn't so great but it didn't make or break the bowl of noodles. Overall very satisfied and would order noodles from here again. Also ordered beef skewer and omelet. Both were ok but I wouldn't bother ordering again. I liked the hot tea that was provided upon sitting down. However, service could be an issue for non-mandarin speaking patrons. Sauces aren't on the table but can be self serviced. Restaurant was clean and had its own parking lot. Anyhow, if you like tripe you must try the tripe. Otherwise a good place to grab a nice hot bowl of noodle soup.

Yelp
We ordered beef hotpot. The meat quality was not good. There were dark spots on the sliced meat. The people worked there said it's normal. We didn't eat them anyway. There are pictures attached.

Yelp
Very good spot for a nice bowl of noodles! This is not your typical pho shop which I am appreciative of. It has all of the components of pho, but it also has different flavors. I got the beef rib w/beef noodle soup and it was so good. The beef rib was nice and tender, and the noodles were fresh and perfectly cooked. The broth was nice and clear and full of flavor. I loved the sauce station. There are multiple sauces and toppings and you can create the perfect sauce to your liking! The sacha and garlic sauce were delicious and they were amazing when combined. The service was great! Upon sitting down, we were served a very cute pot of tea. I also appreciated the fact that a plate and glove were given to me so I could eat the beef rib without getting my hands messy. I would definitely be back!

Yelp
A friend suggested this place for dinner after I suggested grabbing pho. She noted the place sells teochew style noodle soup. I was expecting a place like Sam's Noodle House or Kim Ky. I was in for a surprise. Food: I ordered the A1 since it is their signature noodle soup. It came with sliced beef, tripe, and beef balls. They make the tripe with a slightly crunchy texture which is not my preference, but it was acceptable. The soup was very clean yet full of flavor. Recommended! Sacha Beef Ribs - My friend highly recommended the ribs, but I didn't really care for it. It tasted like boiled ribs them smothered in sacha sauce. I prefer the rib meat to fall off the bone (it was not) and covered in more sauce (it was not). Special note to their teapot and the self serve hot sauce! That sauce is very spicy and tasty. Service: Fairly friendly staff. They speak Mandarin, Cantonese and Teochew. Environment: Parking lot is very tight. The seating inside is fairly casual, but gives you the vibe of a modern Teochew restaurant. Unlike the Sam's Noodle House and Kim Ky restaurants this place offers a wider scale of menu items including hot pot! Price: Fairly priced for the style and quality of food. Food: 4 Service: 4 Environment: 4 Price: 4

Yelp
Worst service ever!!! I ordered take out. As I was about to pay, the waitress just snatched the money from my hands. What is with this rage and ill manner! I believe she is the manager, in her mid 50s-60s with short hair and glasses. The food is good, but the service is what drives the customers away. My last time ordering from this restaurant.

Yelp
Such a good place for hot pot! There are also plenty of other food here, if hot pot isn't quite your thing. But I highly recommend getting the hot pot - the soup is so tasty. Combo B: comes with beef and chicken in the hot pot soup. We ordered cabbage, tripe, and noodles separately. The noodles were so tasty with the soup that we ordered an extra one. Fried combo: an assortment of fried fish balls, shrimp balls, tofu. So good, especially with the sauce. Oyster pancake: pretty tasty, especially with the sauce provided. House special beef noodle soup: such a nice comfort meal. The broth is clear and noodles are perfect texture. Beef rib: it's okay. There is a sauce bar near the entrance, so don't forget to make your own sauce bowl!

Yelp
A cute cow logo leads this casual restaurant as most of their menu items are beef related -- a variety of beef noodle soup options, beef fried rice, beef skewers, beef ribs and more. Even their tea set comes in a chow/ox shaped pot -- super cute. They even have hot pot as an option. They have a private parking lot, which is a bit small and is one way, so pay attention when entering/exiting. Service is super fast and efficient. The turn-around-time is truly impeccable. I think after we placed our order, the 1st item came within a matter of minutes. Our last order came in no more than within 10 minutes of placing our order. I think their relatively small menu helps them in this regard. They have 2 gender-neutral private restrooms, which were clean. Now as for the food... 1. Wagyu Beef Noodle Soup (3.5/5) This soup is relatively light. It's clear beef brother rather than the traditional Chinese spicy beef noodle soup. It reminds me more of Pho. They use flat rice noodles. The beef itself was ok -- tender and fresh, but definitely, not top-grade beef. If you want a relatively light, hearty soup on a cold day, this would be perfect. If you want, they do have a sauce station at the front and side of the restaurant where you can get some cilantro, green onion and spicy garlic sauce. After adding these into my soup, it kicked it up a notch. 2. Beef Cube Skewer (3.5/5) Very tender, but it could use a bit more cumin seasoning 4 skewers/order 3. Beef Rib (4/5) Relatively tender. The flavor was bold and well marinated. They provide you with plastic gloves to eat this with. 3 ribs/order 4. Beef Cube Fried Rice (4.5/5) This was my favorite dish. It had a fragrant fried rice taste and the beef cube was very tender. The combination made it taste like a homey dish. 5. Pan-fried Chive Cake (2/5) This is not your traditional Chive cake. They make this using radish rather than flour dough, so it's healthier, but the taste and texture was just weird. It reminds me of the radish cake dish from dim sum restaurants. If you like radish + chives, then you'll like this. 6. Beef with Radish Soup (3.5/5) I can't comment too much on this as I did not try it. It was my brother's dish. Per his comments, it's "not bad. It's like a light beef soy soup with chunks of beef and radish. The beef was not tender though... requires quite a bit of chewing."

Yelp
The food was mid at best, and although the wait time was okay, the customer service was terrible. The staff had a bad attitude throughout our visit. We ordered a dish that took a long time to arrive, and when it finally did, they gave us something else and insisted it was the same dish--even though we had already said we didn't want it anymore due to the delay. When the food finally came, we tried it and quickly realized it wasn't what we ordered. We brought it up to a waitress, but she brushed it off saying it just "looked different now" and that the menu photo was outdated. No one had mentioned this at the time of ordering, and when we tried to talk to other staff members, we got the same dismissive attitude. They refused to remove the dish from the bill just because we hadn't said anything sooner--despite the fact that the real issue was poor communication on their part. Overall, not worth eating here. Between the unprofessional service and misleading menu, it was a frustrating experience.

Yelp
Foods good overall for a lot of their dishes but avoid their hot pot soup combo. It's VERY msg like flavor which is a shame. I think soup would've probably been excellent if they toned that down.

Yelp
Yummy meats! Got all sorts of beef to dip into the chicken pot. The chicken soup tasted ok, not super flavorful but decent. The tea set is SO SO cute!!! One little pot for my so and I. Staff was super attentive and quick to remove finished plates and refill tea.

Yelp
I had lunch with my family at this Chao Wei Ju restaurant today. We placed our orders for the A6 Beef Meatballs and Fish Dumplings Noodle Soup, the A1 House Special Beef Noodle Soup, the Oyster Pancake, and the Beef Cube Fried Rice. The noodle soup has a really basic, flavorless taste. The oysters have a strong flavor, and the oyster pancake is too plain. The Beef Cube Fried Rice seems sort of small serving. All in all, the food tastes okay. Chao Zhou Kung Fu Tea is the only thing about this place that I like. The tea is delicious and the Kung Fu Tea set is adorable. Where can I purchase this Kung Fu Tea Set ? :)
