Tony stayed at this place where a maharaja once lived. He ate some of the food such as mulligatawny soup.

My wife and I spent 3 nights at this charming hotel during our trip to Shimla. Staying at this hotel is like stepping back to a bygone age of opulence and splendour. Our room was comfortable and clean, and furnished with lovely period furniture. Our stay was on a half board basis. Breakfast, consisted of cereal, porridge and eggs cooked to choice. We opted for Indian vegetarian dinners , which were delicious. On our first night, the owner provided us with an interesting short history of Shimla, and Chaplee House. He then gave us a tour of the magnificent rooms in the house, each containing a wealth of furniture, paintings, family photos and memorabilia. The staff were lovely and attentive, and nothing was too much for them. A unique experience which we recommend.

We loved our time at Chapslee. The house is like a time warp, the staff so helpful and kind, and the food excellent. But what makes this lovely home so special is just that – it is a family home, not a hotel. We were lucky enough to have a guided tour by the owner and it is clear just how much the family cares about preserving their lovely home and its contents. They walk a tight rope between too much and not enough updating, but we think they have the balance absolutely right.||One of the highlights of our stay was an electrical fault that turned off some of the lights. The family and staff were so apologetic, while we guests were delighted to go to bed by candlelight as would have happened in the early days of the house.||We would not hesitate to return.

We enjoyed a two night break at this very original and delightful hotel. It is just like staying as very special house guests. The food was delicious at breakfast and dinner, the family and staff are charming and our room very comfortable. |The property is full of interesting items and furniture collected by the family of the current owner, and we would recommend anyone to spend some time at this lovely home.

Our anticipated and quite inviting stay was worth every minute spent along this marvel. The bygone era came alive not merely in the well preserved outlook of the estate but also in the table etiquettes, mannerism, flora and personal tour of the property by the scion himself who shared memoirs of the royal family’s adventures. Library has some well kept telltale and testimonials waiting to be explored. An architect’s treasure and connoisseur’s delight awaits you at Chapslee. What’s an icing on the cake is its proximity to the Mall Road.

The last leg of a touring vacation and the chance to step into another world. Any hotel can have a decent bed and a gym, but Chapslee offers an immersion. You can't help but slow down. We enjoyed how tea marks out the day, from "bed tea" in the morning to afternoon tea service with silver pot in the gardens. "Unique" is an overused word, but here at Chapslee it's true. I'm leaving here with my perspective a little shifted. It's not just the sense of history, staying here is a clue for a way of living.

We had a lovely stay at the Chapslee, real old world style very helpful and attentive staff. Food was excellent and varied. Perfect location for walking the Mall, traffic free with lots of interesting shops, cafes. The views of the Himalayas are wonderful and the air is fresh.

Chapslee oozes charm of a bygone era of Victorian Britain in Shimla. We were joined at breakfast by the owners son who gave us a fascinating history of both Chapslee and Shimla. We opted for the vegetarian dinner which was a superb Indian meal followed by a quintessential English desert bread and butter pudding.
