Google
Charcoal Delights has won me loyalty once again. I always like the quality of their food. Tonight it was a late meal and I only wanted a simple hamburger and fries, cooked just as I like it and with the toppings that suit my taste. My shop partner was with me, glad to have the opportunity to grab a meal at one of his long-time favorite burger restaurants. Here's what made our visit special on this occasion: We had important business to talk over. The manager saw our intense discussion and allowed us to finish up, even though he was ready to lock up for the night. The courtesy he showed was both kind and congenial. He has made an impression that will endure and bring up back. This is a good place, with good people, and good food. We need businesses like this. I'm happy to make this recommendation.

Google
My family and I love eating here in Charcoal Delights. We have known this place for over 15 years and we go at least once every 2 months. 100 % recommended.

Google
They have a satisfying triple decker grilled cheese with your choice of bread (white, wheat or rye, yes!). American cheese, cuz you're in America! Crinkle cut fries are fresh. In this case, though it's Charcoal Delights, there's no charcoal, but it's still a delight. Cons: styrofoam cups and plates (is it 1974?). Muzak in the style of Kenny G kills the ambiance (is it 1986?). Pros: good food made quickly with love, good service and vibe, hot sauce bottles are freely available, it has a nice and kinda retro fast food atmosphere (though clean and remodeled) and it's a big step up from the soulless corporate chains. Random condiment note: They have mustard, ketchup and barbeque sauce, in pump dispensers. The labels for these are behind them, on the wooden bins, rather than on the dispensers. Random veggie burger note: I didn't like it.

Google
I had the Chicken sandwich by recommendation; I was expecting a big grilled flavor chicken, but it was average and the patty was on the thin side. I was as nearby , so I stopped in.

Google
Very good, mainly fast food. Greek salad, chicken and Spinach Pie are also on offer. Desserts include milkshakes, parfaits and a small selection of pie and cheesecake slices. Staff is always polite and friendly. We love their Italian Beef sandwiches.

Google
This was my first time visiting Charcoal Delight, I ride pass every day on my way to work. Saturday me and a co worker decided to go in after work, We both ordered Bacon Double Cheeseburgers, the burger was very good. I also liked the large menu of great grilled food. YES I will revisit Charcoal Delight. And I recommend ordering the Bacon Double Cheeseburger with all the fixings.

Google
Probably the best drive thru burger I've ever had. Next time I'm in the city I hope I can stop by again.

Google
The Grilled Charcoal Chicken sandwich is delicious. Worth a try. Nice oasis on the north side.

Yelp
I stopped by on a whim new to the area and I'm more then satisfied huge menu the fries were so good! Burger amazing too and Coke I don't come to this area offer but I will definitely stop by when I am out here

Annette D.

Yelp
Drawn in by the delicious char-grill aroma. Burgers were good and crinkle fries are my favorite. Other menu items looked really good too -especially the chicken.

Shawn K.

Yelp
Located in The North Park neighborhood of Chicago, Charcoal Delights has some good quality fast food from hot dogs to burgers to chicken sandwiches. 4 out of 5 stars.

Dameon G.

Yelp
The food is always pretty good here and the service is always excellent but what I will say the gray haired manager looks at you with the discuss as if you are privileged or should appreciate him over the service that is being given my girlfriend Order, some food and it was a mistake, and normally when you get extra food by mistake or they overcharge you at any restaurant They will always refund you what you paid extra and normally tell you to keep the food that was extra, but as his employees was apologetic and giving me great service, he stepped up and said, give me the hot dog back, which I thought was extremely unprofessional so overall, I am not giving the restaurant a one star because the food was bad. I'm giving the restaurant one star and I wish I can give it zero based off of the supervisors attitude And lack of respect. And by asking what could improve the attitude of the supervisor all the employees were very passionate about their job, very friendly with smiley faces, but the supervisor looked at me with a discussed, as if I did not deserve to be complaining about anything. Just remember the employees makes the supervisor and managers look good not the other way around so managers and supervisors should always lead by example.

Yelp
Charcoal Delights has a nostalgic place in my heart. I would come here with my dad many years ago. I do not know what happened?? I mean I really like the food and it's worth the price. But the service??? I do not get it, it's as if they hate working there and mess up orders on purpose. Not a friendly place anymore. I will no longer go there

Amy K.

Yelp
Haven't been in this place for a while, despite living nearby. Some changes have been made. For one thing, they gave me an actual knife and fork and an actual plate, not just the plastic and paper stuff. Fancy! My drink and soup were both served in styrofoam, though. The fries are better now than they used to be- crispier, and I happen to prefer crinkle-cut fries, anyway. The fish dinner is probably the item I've ordered most often here over the years, and while the basic components have stayed the same, I've noticed that the fish pieces have gotten smaller. The cream of chicken soup is still good. I don't understand the lettuce that comes with the fish dinner. Is it meant to be a salad? It's just a bunch of shredded iceberg lettuce and two slices of tomato with no dressing. Is it meant to be a garnish? Then why is there so much of it? The place is reasonably clean, the bathrooms don't smell terrible, the prices are not too shocking. It's still a pretty good example of the kind of place it is.

Antonio R.

Yelp
This place is amazing. I'm visiting from FL and stopped in for a Gyro. Holy smokes, they are not stingy with the meat, I ate a lot and it barely looks like I even touched my plate. My GF got two different hot dogs and they taste so good. I had to buy another Pita to take with me because I had so much Gyro meat leftover. Every single one of their staff members was so friendly and polite. We need this place in Jacksonville FL.

Yelp
My bud and I were searching for a quick place for a late lunch, so we wound up at Charcoal Delights. Located at Foster and Kedzie, they have a convenient parking lot if you are driving. They have an extensive menu, so it might take a minute to peruse everything on the board. Once we placed our orders, the food came out quickly. I must say the service was super, as one woman knew I wanted a take-out box for my leftovers before I even asked for it. She also impressed my bud by reciting their entire week of soup specials. My bud ordered a two piece broasted chicken meal, which comes with coleslaw, biscuit, and soup. I ordered the ribs 'N' broasted chicken combo, a staggering meal including a half slab of ribs and half broasted chicken (4 pieces). My meal also came with garlic bread, coleslaw, soup, and baked potato. The soup of the day was navy bean, which was a very hearty cup filled with more beans than liquid. The broasted chicken is similar to fried chicken but allegedly healthier for you, so that's cool. The ribs were saucy and good if not great. Indeed, I had plenty of food from this combo to take home and share with my love. It cost $23.99 but since I got a couple of meals out of it I believe it was worth it.

Bob K.

Yelp
Shrimp Basket - my Friday go-to lunch or supper. Great. Get a side order of cole-slaw to go with it. Plenty of sauce so you don't need to ask for extra.

Joani O.

Yelp
It always smells so good when we drive past and we love good grilled food. Especially burgers. Today we stopped and got two burgers and fries. Their burgers are huge! I could only eat half but it was very good. Crinkle cut fries. Everything made to order, but it didn't take long at all. And they have a large menu if you want something else. Good fast food and tbey have a drive thru too.

Ted C.

Yelp
I don't know why I've never written a review for Charcoal Delights before, shocked really. I've lived nearby for most of my adolescence and have had pretty much everything on the menu with the exception of the fish sandwich. I usually am satisfied with their burgers which takes some time but it's worth it. They have a drive through but unless you catch them at an off time it might be a long but worthwhile wait. My latest visit I went with their Italian beef. I remember back in the day they just had a pepperoncini peppers which I found distasteful, seriously not even sweet peppers? Well, they must have gotten enough complaints or something because it's changed and for the better. The sandwich managed to have enough juice without it being a soggy mess b the time I got back to the house to eat it. The fries though have stayed the same, crispy, delicious not quite a steak fry but not a shoestring.

Jeffrey B.

Yelp
Yo! If you're not eating at his place you're missing out! Best fried chicken in the state! And those potato logs!!! All gas, no brakes!

Peg P.

Yelp
Still probably my favorite burger in Chicago. Always freshed grilled with that smokey flavor. Fries are nice and crisp without being overdone. The biggest problem is that their broasted (fried) chicken is also amazing. So unless you want to eat yourself into a coma, you're going to have to choose. It's a painful dilemma. It gets worse: their Greek chicken is excellent too. So good luck with your choices. Haven't had their gyros in a long time, but they're more expensive than they used to be. (Like literally everything else in the world.) Always good service, nice clean tables, and a magnificent charcoal smell that makes you start drooling as soon as you get in.

Alo ..

Yelp
I love kelly. She gives the best customer service. The food is great. The place was very nice.

Jack E.

Yelp
Good food for the price, charbroiled burgers tasted fresh and delicious. Service was great with a host around to keep things fresh and clean. Nice seating with tv to keep us occupied if needed. Not too loud quick service.

Bennett A.

Yelp
This place used to be good, not great but good. Maybe I got them on an off day. Went on 09/04/2024 and carried out a four piece chicken dinner. Immediately took it home to eat. Chicken had a weird taste and was extremely rubbery. Broasted potatoes also tasted weird. Neither were anywhere warm. Biscuit was inedible and ended up throwing it out. Cole slaw OK but miniscule container. For $14.45 including tax---even in today's inflationary era----way overpriced. Only thing good was counterperson extremely nice. Now on my endangered species list. Thanks, BA

Jeff D.

Yelp
Well we were looking forward to trying this local joint especially with the cool sounding name. Unfortunately the name did not live up to the taste of the food. For lunch on Saturday, Mo had a cheeseburger and I did the Gyro Sandwich with the Tziki on the side. The cheeseburger patty seemed to be molded by hand so that was a nice touch but the taste was mediocre at best. I've had many a Gyro in my life and this was the middle of the road. I like my Gyros a little crispy, just a minute on the grill and this was just ok. I will say they have an extensive menu. By far the staff was nice and plentiful and did a good job of keeping the place clean but there will not be any rush to come back here.

Honest E.

Yelp
The food is average. Service. Can barely understand them. English is very poor . Seems like they don't understand it well either as they ask plate or sandwich then give you the opposite.

N.J. M.

Yelp
Charcoal Delights is an all-American grill, with burgers, hot dogs, fries etc. that is great when you want comfort food from the grill late into the night. All I wanted was a hot dog, and it was already past 9 PM, so it was difficult to find an open hot dog stand near me. After some research, I found Charcoal Delights. I pulled into the drive-through, ordering a kids hot dog meal that came with a soda and fries. After paying, I was told to pull to the side to wait for my order. 10 minutes later, the staff walked up to my window with my order. The food was ok and fulfilled my craving, but I personally wished my hot dog had a little more char. If I returned, I would ask for it when ordering. Overall, Charcoal Delights is a solid choice for late-night grill comfort.

William D.

Yelp
I am a big fan of this place but Saturday my wife and kid all ordered cheese burgers and the onion pickle mix was dirty tasting all of didn't like the cheese burgers. I willreturn cheese fries and a pizza puff next time

Katerina O.

Yelp
The food is typically good, if they can manage somehow to get the order correct. I know it's a lot to ask!! They have very incompetent people running the drive-through. I stated what I needed 3 times, with certain condiments left off of the beef sandwich, due to allergies, and they still messed up and put it on the order. Thank goodness I checked it out before serving it, or it would have ended up in an ER visit. Shameful! If you can't hire competent people, run it yourselves, or just shut down.. it will cost you in the long run

Jorge P.

Yelp
I hate to write this I really do. Went through the drive through, ordered my food and was told to pull to the side, after 20 minutes of waiting I decided to go inside to find out, that order machine was broken. The guy at the front decided to take my receipt barehanded, scratched his nose, touched the counter several times and decided to grab every piece of my sandwich with his barehands. I told him sir I'm not eating that you should wear gloves. He gives me attitude and says he washes his hands every five minutes even though in the 12 minutes that I was there I did not see him do so. Long story short after being asked several times by me and by his coworker (who was working the register) still decided not to wear gloves. Luckily the guy working the fryer took over and prepared my food, just bad service and there employees need to be more hygenic

Jacob J.

Yelp
Nostalgia aside Charcoal delights has been changing into a corporate style chain eatery. All of what made CD good years ago, is absent since they have been moving to make their food lesser while opting to charging more. One of my last updates mentioned that the french fries were smaller in size. And I'll offer leeway in saying that when they are sourcing ingredients, their providers will have stock that undergoes changes over the years. But, it's up to their management to find suitable replacements. Just recently I stopped in for a gyros and onion rings. I could not believe the size of it. Fractionally larger than a Roku remote and for the cost paid, it is utterly ridiculous. I paid about $10 bucks for the meal. The onion rings were the only good I got from the order. They look homemade. While costs are higher than it's ever been, size is also smaller than it's ever been too! And the worst part was that it was bad quality. The meat was salty, as was the tzatziki sauce. I just can't & won't waste any more money. There are plenty of other gyros/ Italian beef/ burger shops to visit.

Steve G.

Yelp
I have been going here literally since they opened and I do not think I will be back. I would have rated this place 5 stars just a couple years ago. The last 2 times I have ordered food here I got a tuna melt. Both times I was served a cold tuna sandwich with cold slices of American cheese on untoasted bread. As Shakespeare said, "Neither heat nor toast does not a tuna 'melt' make."

Julieta C.

Yelp
Chicago classic for delicious diner food. Everything tastes better on the grill! Food made to order and quick. I recommend the burgers, hot dogs, onion rings, fries, Greek salad, the croissant egg/cheese sandwich and the shakes! The staff is super friendly and the prices are just right. Their Breakfast menu is also very yummy.

Vuksan B.

Yelp
Great food great menu great service one of CHICAGO's longtime favorites bon appétit Nice place to hang out

Denyce M.

Yelp
Charcoal Delights...more like No Charcoal and just all right. Stopped here on the way home. Had The Heiress Apparent with me. She had been talking about stopping her and trying this place. We had actually made plans to make a trip special to go here to try their food, but ended up not doing so because we wanted to just chillax on a Sunday. So glad we did not make a special trip because I would have been salty AF, unlike Charcoal Delights fries. Got a double cheeseburger with everything, an order of fries and a Strawberry shake. Based on the name, I was expecting to bite into a burger that had that yummy taste of something that could possibly give you cancer because it was cooked over charcoals. Well that did not happen. What happened on the first bite was me thinking that Burger King had more of a charcoal flavor than this place. It was not a bad burger, but not what I was expecting, especially for the price ($8.99). Fries were hot, but not much flavor. Same goes for the strawberry shake....it was more vanilla in flavor instead of strawberry. But it was pink, so that's a start. I guess if I wanted a vanilla shake, I would have order it. La J got a chocolate shake and it did taste like one....she liked it. I will give the staff four stars. They were very nice and pleasant. We went through the drive thru and the woman taking our order was nice. So was the woman who brought our food out to the car. Overall okay food, but I would not go out of my way to go there for a burger. Maybe the other food on the menu is better...can't say. But unlikely to find out any time soon as the burger has made this a no drive thru zone for now. Thank your staff for the extra star.

Mallory S.

Yelp
My family has been coming here for decades. Great char dogs. Love the super dog with all the trimmings. The service here is also fantastic. It's an old school place that's been around for years. You can't go wrong eating here!

Nic D.

Yelp
I really like the Burgers, the hot dogs, BLT's, and the Daily Soup here. I also go on the weekends for a quick omelet a side of Bacon, basic food that does not fail you. Its across from a McDonalds why any one would pass up Charcoal delight for that is beyond me. Pricing is about the same and the food is always good.

Ioan P.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years and unfortunately it's been downhill for some time. Ordered today among many items their gyro plate. The meat was dry and they forgot (drive thru order) the cucumber sauce. It's unfortunate as it used to be one of our favorites.

Jeff B.

Yelp
My son was playing baseball next door and so I stopped in to grab something to eat. Service was quick, the charbroiled chicken sandwich was served on a whole grain bun and was really delicious. Combo meal with fries and a drink was $14 so I couldn't afford to come here every day, but it was a nice treat.

Pedro E.

Yelp
Does Charcoal Delight have wi-fi ? I tend to use the McDonalds wi-fi across the street, but the signal comes and goes due to rain and traffic.

Samantha S.

Yelp
Whatever you do, DO NOT get the gyro sandwich. $13 for the meal with fries. Its really small and it's not good. It comes wrapped in a cone shape. You know they do that when they skimp on the meat. The meat is thinly sliced, flavorless, and seems like it's steamed. There are no crunchy parts at all. The tzatziki sauce is flavorless yet overpacked with thinly sliced long limp onions, doesn't have any cucumber or salt. The pita was fine. They put tons of fresh parsley on it, seemingly to make up for lack of everything else. Since when do you put parsley on a gyro sandwich? In a city where we have some great gyros, this doesn't qualify as a gyro sandwich. I was starving and I threw out half of it. The side of fries was kid sized too. The staff is nice. But I'm never coming back.

Jacqueline F.

Yelp
Nice local spot to catch a meal, whether your in the mood for some burgers or some chicken. They have a nice menu selection of food and also have some tasty shakes available to satisfy your sweet tooth. Came here to catch an afterschool meal with my little one. I ordered a cheeseburger with fries and she got the chicken tender meal with fries, along with a strawberry shake. Everything was really good for being fast food. The burgers were nicely grilled and my daughter enjoyed her tenders. The milkshake was nice and creamy! Inside there are plenty of tables and seats available. They even have a couple flat screens that were playing the Cubs game while we were there. Thats a WIN WIN in my book!

Kerry T.

Yelp
I'm an out of towner. I stopped by the Foster Ave location. Very good food. Very nice people. Recommended!

Anonymous W.

Yelp
Best breakfast & lunch. I've never encountered a bad meal here. Great customer service and delicious food.

Illegirl_ 9.

Yelp
Best late night food! Whenever I am craving American food this is my spot and service is very attentive:)

Rosa J.

Yelp
It's a place where you can find food, almost anytime of the day. Don't get me wrong. This place, in my opinion, has better food than what offers in the McDonald's across the street. They don't have amazing deals in their entrees and combos, but if you have to eat and want something to fill in the stomach, then you've got it! The patty melt was passable; the amount of cheese was adequate to make it "gooey" enough to hold the two (2) pieces of bread together. Hubby's tuna sandwich looked like what it should be. There's really no certain criteria to judge food like this, unless you have a legit compliant for some health and sanitation concerns. If employees were eating their own food, then what you've consumed should have no major problem. They do have a drive-thru and a plenty of parking. Do me a favor: walk in and order with an employee face-to-face. Why do you think obesity is a big deal in this country? People can't walk or refuse to walk, for two (2) freakin' seconds in their lives? You guys...let me tell ya...that's trippin'! By parking your vehicle and then walking in, you can avoid the wrong orders, mis-communications, or other unnecessary glitches. No one sounds great via the drive-thru speaker, not even radio personnel. Anyways, it's a fast-food establishment there's really no surprises with what you get. Nevertheless, the business hours are awesome here, so if you have a job with irregular hours, this place can be your saving grace. Wifi works great! So thank you.

Daniel A.

Yelp
Amazing ahhhhh food bro omfg i swear to got i be like freaking whenever i eat here it's so damn good brah

David G.

Yelp
No frills; just a good cheeseburger. This place offers the convenience of fast food, but with much higher quality.

Michael B.

Yelp
I ordered a double cheese burger, large cheese fries and large chocolate shake. 18 bucks? The burger was pretty good the fries were cold, the small styro of cheese was solid and the shake was all milk no ice cream. I live in the neighborhood but will never be going back. Thank goodness Portillo's opened on Addison.

Rudy U.

Yelp
Went here for lunch. Team member working the grill was not wearing a mask. When I inquired about it, they told me he has asthma... He shouldn't be working the grill then. Won't be eating here. Tossed my food.

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Never heard of a Greek place that doesn't serve onions, tomatoes and Tzatziki sauce with a chicken kabob plate! ridiculous! giving Greeks a bad name! and broasted potatoes? are you even Greek? no onions or peppers on the kabob? you are literally the only place that serves it this way! what's the point of having a kabob? just give me a breast! and the chicken was dry!!! Brutal! How are you even in business?

Christopher K.

Yelp
I stopped by today (2/15/22) and picked up a veggie omelette with hash browns on side. The hash browns were not cooked and the cheese I requested on the hash brown was just flopped on with no heat to melt. They use to be really good. Not anymore. I would not go back.

Sophia B.

Yelp
Two word...dog food!!! $55 for dog food! The ribs were awful! Tough and dry. Go to Wallys in park ridge if you want great ribs

Janice M.

Yelp
My daughter and I were at this location last Monday. Ordered and paid prior to seating, and the food was served directly to our table. The lady, who brought our food, had a warm smile and conversed with us briefly. Food was served quickly and quickly gobbled. Kid friendly. Ample parking. Near North Park University and other fast food restaurants.

Kym K.

Yelp
Good spot for a really quick juicy double cheeseburger. This will definitely hit the spot. Don't order any shakes because the tops ALWAYS pop off. But other than that, very yummy. Our go to for a quick bite to eat for a big appetite.

Brian R.

Yelp
When I first moved to the city, I always wanted to eat here, but my (now ex) wife was like "I am *not* eating at that place. It's called Charcoal Delights." But, c'mon! That's a fantastic name! Eventually, I just picked up a couple of chicken kabob sandwiches on the way home one night and didn't tell her where they were from, and she fell in love. And I love this place, too. Solid non-chain fast food, super nice staff. The best things to order: -Chicken Kabob Sandwich (or platter, plus a side of tzatziki if you miss it) -Patty melt -Chicken Delight (fried chicken sandwich.) -The fries, though unremarkable, are everything I want in a fry in this context. Criticisms, if I had to come up with a couple: -The shakes were gross, at least as of a couple years ago. -The cheesesteak delight will do in a pinch, but it always feels light on the beef to me. -You can get better broasted chicken (and the broasted potatoes are pretty meh).

Jean Z.

Yelp
"CHICKEN DELIIIIIIIGHT!!!!!" Oh man, I've been coming here since highschool. There's this lady working there still that yells out "chicken deliiiight" to the cooks and its so memorable that anyone who went to Von or NorthPark knows what it means if someone mocks it. My usual order $8.00: Cheese steak delight special with a root beer. No sweet, add giardinier and extra cheese...let the cheesy spicey goodness drip onto your yummy fries and oh man. A meal you'll never forget! They have chardogs, burgers, chicken sandwiches, REAL HOME MADE soup daily (try the clam if they have it!) and they have shakes and yummy Iced Tea daily too. A true northside treat to be able to order at the counter and sit with your number - the staff brings your food to your table. I have never tipped.(are you supposed to?) Rather expensive for fast food but really worth it for the quality these guys put into their menu. There's another store in DesPlaines that is owned by the same family. Same name, Same game. YUMMMMM! (Open super early to treat the bus drivers from across the street. Breakfast and late nite here is good too!)
