Delicious kosher deli that reminds me of my grandparents cooking. Super tasty chopped liver, kugel and cole slaw. Hits the spot when you need some comforting deli food. Also the owner is a very nice gentleman who was very friendly when I was ordering.

Why does this place have so few reviews. It’s the best sandwich shop in LA. Hershel is so kind and he makes amazing kosher food. I know because he gave me like 8 different samples for free. I went with the chopped liver sandwich. But will need to come in for lox and everything else next time!

My visit to Charley's was amazing! Mr. H was a sweet pleasant gentleman who was eager to please with his generosity by allowing me to sample some of his homemade delicacies. I probably would still be there sampling if I hadn't stopped him.🤭 Mr. T had such a friendly smile that made me feel very welcome. I ordered the beef pastrami with potato and cucumber salad. The pastrami was so lean and tender, and the portions were so big that I couldn't eat it all! If you want authentic Jewish pastrami served with a smile, then this is the spot!

Just tried them for the first time, a take out order for me and co-workers. WOW!! Not expecting this. Best Kosher Deli food I've had in LA to date! Potato salad was phenomenal, roast beef sandwich terrific. I tried this place on a lark, and the owner talked me into trying something. I am delighted to say I'll be coming back for more.

Nice place with delicious sandwiches and Matzo Ball Soup

The girl who lives in Apt 1, 451 S Oakhurst Dr is cyberstalking me with the people she holds responsible for "Pol Pot"-ing her building. Service was great! I was a little anxious trying this place because I'd never really had kosher food or any of this kind. The owner was incredibly friendly and kind. I recommend just for the service alone. The food is great too!

Great food and friendly staff. Delicious sandwiches and their matzo ball soup is amazing! This Deli has a wonderful selection of food and will definitely be my new place to go for a tasty bite with that made at home flavor :)

I can't believe I haven't written a review for this amazing hidden gem! Seriously, every party or holiday celebration that I have had for the past 15 years always features amazing selections from Charlie's. Charlie's Kosher Deli is strictly Kosher Certified. The service here is top notch! Hershel, the owner, is an absolute sweetheart (I want to hug him every time I see him) and his staff are also so kind and courteous. Everything is made from scratch daily from Hershel's secret recipes using quality, fresh ingredients. The hand sliced lox are the freshest I've ever had and are smoked in house. The cream cheese is so creamy. Like nothing you've ever had before. The Latkes are huge! I love the cucumber salad, the lox spread (with chunks of fresh lox), eggplant spread, whitefish spread, the pierogis, kreplach, the crunchy house made pickles - OMG everything is delicious and tastes like home cooked comfort food (especially the vegetable soup). Don't forget the desserts. The Apple cake (szarlotka), lemon tiramisu, honey cake, and poppy seed pastries are all delightful! If I lived closer, I would eat here every day! I highly recommend Charlie's Kosher Deli. It's by far the best in town - or anywhere for that matter.

I cant believe I have never heard of this place, it has to be one of the best kosher delis I've had outside on New York! I stumbled upon this place because I had a meeting a few blocks away and had to check it out because of its super old school looking storefront. If something looks like it's been around that long, you know it's doing something right! Its a small basic little kosher deli with sandwiches, deli meat, fresh made knishes and other Jewish pastries. I just wanted a little snack, and got a chicken knish and it was amazing, just like my grandmother used to make them! While he was heating it up, we chatted for a bit and he told me the shop has been there since 1942 i believe and that he's the 3rd generation owner. He's the sweetest old man. He also offered me a sample of his lox that he makes himself with no nitrates, along with a chicken tender. The lox was some of the best I've ever had, it wasn't too salty and was super buttery and melted in your mouth. The chicken tender was great as well. If your looking for a great old school no frills kosher deli, look no further, this is your spot!

This is the only place that makes chopped liver to the satisfaction of an elderly relative. Parking is often difficult. Haven't tried anything else.

The food and the service was amazing! Great chicken soup, lox, and sandwiches. I highly recommend for people to eat her or to take to go.

The best chopped liver on Pico ! (gee, that sounds like the title of a short story). I went ion last week to buy some and he said "Come back in 20 minutes. New batch is almost ready."

I have been eating chicken salad sandwiches my entire life, from The Bronx to LA, Charlie's is the best chicken salad sandwich I've ever had in my 39 years of existence. Hesh is a tremendous guy and the food is A+. My new favorite spot in LA.

Perhaps the most legit Jewish deli I've been to on the West Coast. I've had their pastrami, lox, chicken liver, whitefish salad, potato and onion, seasoned rice, borscht, and matzo ball soup and it's all delicious. It's on the expensive side and I wish they were a bit faster but it's a small family-run operation so you have to be patient. Otherwise it's great. Be cognizant of the mad rush right before they close on Friday afternoon in anticipation of Shabbat.

Nice friendly staff and good food. I had the pastrami and corned beef on rye, and grabbed a whitefish spread to go on my bagels from Beverlywood next door. The rye is nice. Good caraway flavor and bitey crusts. The corned beef is very good, and was the clear winner, and the whitefish spread was absolutely delicious. I like my pastrami with a bit more fat on it but still tasty overall. Will definitely stop by again when I'm down on Pico!

Charlie's delicatessen is absolutely incredible. My boss/ client said the brisket was the best he's had in a long time. It reminded him of his childhood when he great grandma made it. Charlie and all his staff were incredibly charming and kind and professional. I highly recommend visiting this place for any Jewish holidays or if you just was some incredibly delicious food. I highly recommend the bread pudding , lox, horseradish, chicken dumplings. Everything they have is out of this world. Thank you again Charlie!!!!

I came to this place because I needed to get kosher chicken SOUP for a friend and I thought I'd get it for myself as well along with some matzo balls. The reviews said their chicken "soup" was amazing. Once I got home and opened it up to put it in a pan and warm it I found that it was not chicken soup at all. It was CHICKEN BROTH!! NO CHICKEN, NO CELERY, NO CARROTS, JUST BROTH!! SMH I FEEL SO RIPPED OFF!! WHAT'S EVEN WORSE IS I PAID $15 FOR THE BROTH AND ANOTHER $5 FOR THE MATZO BALLS. WHAT A RIP OFF!! Here's the continuation to this horrifying experience. I called them up and spoke with the owner would seem to be a very nice older man. I told him my problem and he said no problem come back in and bring it back and I'll give you your money back. So I came in. He took one look at the chicken soup and told me it was not his!!! In spite of the fact that it was in the same container I bought it in he told me it was in a different bag LOL. When I showed him the receipt to prove that it was he refused to acknowledge it and told me to leave his store!! WOW. SMH.

So I walk into this place just to buy a Dr. Brown's and the wiener-Charlie starts talking to me. He reminds me of my late Father and I find myself being given fish salad to taste. The atmosphere, the attention and -Yes the delicious whitefish salad makes me feel at home. Every time I ask a question, I am invited to taste. After many tastes I walk out with pickles, bourekas, Fish and Dr Brown's sodas The owner is a joy and a reason to Go inside.

Charlie's Kosher Deli is fantastic! The food is great. Every time I'm in I have a new favorite. I ate kosher gumbo for the first time! Tasted great! One of my all time greats is the low salt lox!

We had friends over and decided a bagel brunch would be easy. We bought two pounds of lox (for the brunch) and homemade turkey and some salami for dinner during the week. I am not a big lox guy but even I got in on the feasting and six adults and 4 children devoured 2 pounds of lox. Easily the best lox any of us have ever had. We ate the meat for dinner. We made delicious sandwiches with it. Got to keep it kosher!

This is a gem in the neighborhood! Everything tasted like my grandma's cooking except for the chicken soup. It's actually better than most places in Brooklyn and their knishes are way better than Zabars! They make the chicken pelmini and blintzes in house. If you're looking for great home cooking you should definitely stop by.

Stopped by here by chance. Ordered an amazing turkey pastrami sandwich on rye. The man behind the counter was very welcoming and offered a taste of various deli meats and their great soups. They make their own pickles and they are super crunchy: i dont even like pickles, but they were very crunchy and amazing. They homemake many of their items including coleslaw, pickle, soup etc. whenever i pass by i will be sure to stop in for a quick meal or soup to take back home. Parking is street parking. Service is amazing.

The chicken soup and matzo balls that Charlie makes are really delicious! I think it is the best of any deli in the city. No joke. It's all made from scratch, and the matzo balls are light and fluffy. Charlie is also a really great guy and gives good customer service. Try the pierogis and the kreplach! Yummy!!

I ordered a corned beef sandwich and it cost me $18.60! UNREAL. This is not a one dollar sign deli.

The best- what an amazing discovery for my husband and I. We have both been going to Beverlywood Bakery- for more than 40 years. Who knew the best hand sliced lox was a few doors away. Amazing chopped liver... and the owner is a sweet heart.... terrific my highest rating.... Best!

Charlie's Delicatessen is amazing. For Passover I really wanted homemade gefilte fish. Sooo tired of the jared fish. So i took the drive over to see Charlie. I am soo glad I did! He is the sweetest man and before I left he let me try some of the most delicious delicacies. Everything is homemade! I left with Chopped Liver, Blintzes, Latkes, Matzo Balls (Get the Broth!!) Sour Cream, Cream Cheese, Lox and even the red Horseradish. Everything you would need to cater a party is there! Thanks Charlie!

Old World drear and charm. Place was empty except for an ancient woman on oxygen who was left parked in the doorway, whilst her caregiver spoke Spanish inside with the lone counterman. I tasted the beef salami. It wasn't impressive. I asked about the corned beef, he said confidently that it was excellent. A big, good corned beef sandwich, I ate. Along with a large pickle. Was it worth $16.99? Not in my opinion, but I don't generally buy kosher food out, so this may have been a value. Enjoy!

Little hole in the wall....with delicious fresh sandwiches! I love the fact that is never too busy so I can place and receive my order right away. The guy behind the counter is extremely nice. He always gets the order right, no matter how big it is. Everything I've tried has been great. I don't like the fact there is a minimum of $20 to use a debit card and the food displayed sometimes looks old, not sure how long they have it out. Other than that, the sandwiches are piled high with meat, patatoe salad and pickles r so good I want to go get one right now. If you're in the area for a quick, savory lunch, you should stop by!

Love Charlie's Kosher Delicatessen. They have the best chicken soup! Found out that their chicken soup is made from scratch so there's not one single ounce of canned product in them delicious soup. Also during Thanksgiving, they offer whole cooked Turkey which is delicious (must order in advance). The Turkey was moist and tasty. Everything here is very fresh and delicious. I am not Jewish but my taste buds loves Charlie's Kosher Delicatessen's great tasty fresh food. Staff is very friendly and service is top notch. An overall warm and pleasant experience. Best gefilte fish and chopped liver I have ever had. Worth the wait. Neither Nate & Al's nor Brent's even come close. Their brisket and matzoh ball soup are amazing also - better than homemade. Their homemade pickles are delicious also. Their baked salmon and herring are also fantastic. They have my vote for best L.A. deli hands down!

Best fresh lox in town. They smoke it themselves and you can taste the freshness. Also much less salt than the stuff you buy elsewhere. I invited some family over and I thought one pound of lox would be enough. I barely got to taste it they ate it so fast. They also have home made Kreplach. Be careful though, if your grandmother sees it she might think they stole her recipe. Only down side is that they run out of some of the home made stuff at times. It can be hit and miss. Especially true for the fresh made beef jerky (so good when they have it).

The best lox I have ever had outside of Russ and Daughter's in NYC. Charlie is a sweetheart of a guy and let me sample his stuffed cabbage which was amazing as well. Very small, local business and kosher! I highly recommend this place for anyone craving Jewish delicacies

I feel kind of bad for this place. It looks like they haven't changed a thing since the 60s. It's very quiet and slow with only one guy running the place. We tried their mushroom soup which had disintegrated into mush. The potato knish was okay. Just when I was all ready to go, the guy behind the counter invited us to taste the brisket. Ah, now I know why this place is still open. It was very good and the sandwich would probably be awesome.

This place is actually my favorite brisket sandwich. It's gotta be like some old recipe or maybe Charlie perfected it himself. If you like jewish deli food, this place has some stellar stand out tasting foods. Love it here and can't wait to get another sandwich from here again soon. 5 STARS.

I have to admit I haven't been to the deli, but have had catering from here, and the food is really good. I am a huge fan of Charlie's kreplach with borscht, the best ever!! I'm also addicted to the tomato and cucumber salad. Tasty.

Charlie's Deli is a great "neighborhood deli" which is something that is disappearing rapidly. The food quality is what you would expect in a New York deli, very hard to find in LA. It is all Kosher (which doesn't matter to me) but does insure an even higher level of food quality then competitors. Everything I've had there has been delicious, I would especially recommend the soups (which I have a hard time finding). The sandwiches are great and I often take home the prepared meals for dinner. Charlie's deli is a great place to go to get something healthy for lunch or to take home for dinner at a reasonable price.

I bought a sandwich here. The place looks kind of dirty but for some reason I thought it would be really good. The sign outside says famous cream cheese. I think that is in Philadelphia though. I was confused by this place. It just didn't cut it with me. I will stick with bay cites deli--1000 times better.

Just made a dozen pierogis that were awesome ( and my family is really picky). Had a friend send them by FedEx yesterday. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu!

Ordered a turkey sandwich. From a kosher deli no less. It was close to inedible. Tasted like tasteless turkey roll. Whatever it was I'm sticking with Labels Table up the block.

Dios mio, this place has been here for 70 years and has barely changed. Home-made, hand sliced lox, home-made kreplach, an authentic, nostalgic alternative to the usual hazerai out there.
