18 Iconic Hispanic Restaurants In Miami - Miami - The Infatuation

"This spot doesn’t represent a single country—but rather a truly iconic Latin American food: empanadas. They are beloved by most Latin Americans because they’re cheap, easy to eat, and make the perfect street food. But not all empanadas are made the same, and they vary from country to country. If you want to try a variety (to decide once and for all your favorite style), you’d have to trek all over the city. But at Charlotte Bakery, they solve the problem by offering an array of different styles and fillings from Argentina (baked using puff pastry dough), Venezuela (fried using corn flour), and Chile (square and baked with ingredients such as raisins, olives, and egg) all day long. You won’t find this much empanada variety anywhere else in Miami." - Mandy Baca

The 11 Best Arepas in Miami - Eater Miami

"Charlotte's has been serving Chilean/Venezuelan fusion in Miami Beach since 1996, so the folks there might know a thing or two about keeping people happy. From the arepa bar choose between cheese, shredded beef, chicken or fresh cheese. There's also Huevos Pericos (eggs, tomato, cheese, onion); Huevos, jamón, queso (eggs, ham and cheese); and Reina Pepiá (avocado, chicken and mayo)." - Eater Staff

Google
This amazing bakery is run by a lovely woman from Venezuela who puts her heart into the food she cooks. The pastry on the ham and cheese croissant was incredibly light and flakey. The arrepas have flavorful fillings and are perfectly spiced. My mocha was strong and tasty. I enjoyed the lovely music that filled the room as we ate. If you are in South Beach, don't miss a stop here for breakfast or lunch. It was well worth the long walk from our hotel.

Google
So many delicious options to choose from. I got to try their empanadas and their ham and cheese croissant, which were both to die for. The sauces they serve with their empanadas are fantastic!! The people there were just as lovely and welcoming. Do yourself a favor and support this lovely local business. 10/10.

We were enticed by the Google reviews because we wanted some authentic local food. We were welcomed by the friendly staff but I was disappointed that there weren’t prices or ingredients listed anywhere. Since I’m vegetarian, the ladies were happy to suggest some options. When I agreed on the arepa with beans, cheese, and plantains, I was shocked to see that the price came to $16 before tip. No sides included - only the sandwich. Though it tasted delicious, I wished I was more informed before making my purchase decision.

Delicious Venezuelan and Argentinian food. The service was so warm and amazing! Coffee was strong and delicious. We stuffed ourselves & were so impressed with each dish!

Google
Holy Hallaca!! They have a delicious traditional Venezuelan dish that is perfectly wrapped up in a leaf & twine that you must try!! I also had the fresh squeezed soursop juice, an empanada, & a croissant. Fresh bakery with real good food! Thank you, I will be a regular for your food

Google
This bakery is amazing!!! 100% recommend for anyone in the area. I was staying at the Loew’s and this was right around the corner. They have freshly squeezed juices. The mango juice is to die for, and the coffee is one of the best I’ve had in a long time. I had a “mini lunch” and it was very filling! The ladies working here are lovely. I felt right at home. Support this small business!

Google
What can I say, Venezuelan flavors in Miami Beach. Very casual bakery with the typical dishes ready for you to take or eat there. The empanadas are always perfectly cooked and I do not come to Miami without always making at least one stop here for them. The bakery also has all Venezuelan cheeses, they can make you an arepa with the cheese of your choice if you want to stay away from fried foods. The service is always great and they are consistent in their quality.

Yelp
We were in Miami for a retreat and some of our friends had visited Charlotte Bakery earlier in the week and they had to bring us back. It has such a cute vibe and the gal behind the counter was as sweet as pie. There are so many choices including both Venezuelan and Argentinian empanadas and treats. After looking at everything I finally decided on a cheese tequeno, an Argentinian spinach and ricotta empanada, and an Especial Mariscos (seafood) empanada. I actually wasn't even able to eat any of it until later that afternoon. The cheese tequeno was so delicious. The bread was soft with a slightly sweet taste and it was packed with cheese. The spinach and ricotta was packed with flavor, crispy on the outside, full of filling on the inside. I actually didn't get a chance to eat my Especial until I brought it home from Miami to Vegas! It held over well and I was able to have this special memory of Charlotte Bakery back at home. It had a good spice profile and filled with bits of shrimp and other fish and vegetables. Next time we visit Miami, this will be on our list to stop by again!

Yelp
I LOVE this bakery!! I found them on yelp and it happened to be around the corner from my hotel. Walked in this morning and the lady behind the corner was literally THE NICEST lady. We described everything in way that you just ended up needing to try everything. We got coffees and one pastry because we had breakfast already right before but we are planning to return and take home every kind of empanadas. The coffees were strong and the "mini lunch" pastry was soooo good. Wow!! When my family comes back in a few months I will definitely be recommending we all come here again.

Yelp
Super darling family owned bakery and breakfast/brunch. Great place to try a variety or Argentinian, Venezuelan and Chilean cuisine. Beautiful display of pastries. I had a hard time deciding, but the ladies behind the counter were very helpful at describing everything. I had the El Venezolano- scrambled eggs with ham, chopped sweet peppers and cheese; served with arepas (Venezuelan cornmeal cakes) and a mini tequeno (fried cheese roll) I added plantains for some sweetness. Also had a ham and cheese croissant and Argentinian ham and cheese empanada. Of course, had to try a cortadito (translation = little cut) is a Cuban espresso shot often sweetened with brown sugar and served over steamed milk. ¡Muy delicioso!

Yelp
The woman at the counter was very friendly. The options of empanadas and pastries were amazing! This was my favorite breakfast stop in Miami.

Yelp
Perfect cafe for the true local experience in South Beach. The cortaditos and empanadas are top tier. Very delicious and very fresh tasting. Rebecca helped me order and decide what I wanted. She was extremely friendly, I can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Small bakery with a bang! Pastries on site. First come first serve, when it's gone it's gone. We tried the Venezuelan hot pastries: seafood, fish and beef. Each were tasty. Crispy outer shell with a soft filling. Good ratio. Croissant is highly recommended as well. Crispy flaky with fluffy inside. Regular croissant has a light sugar glaze on top. We also got the Nutella- nuts and Nutella lightly drizzled on top with powdered sugar and Nutella filling inside. We tried the number 1 breakfast which has a little bit of everything and number 3 which was a spinach cheese and egg combo. Both delicious. Everything is on the larger side for portions. We tried the natural drinks: mango, passion fruit and sour sop. So great and refreshing. Seating is limited. Good for couples or very very small groups. Parking is street or garage paid. Overall highly recommend.

Yelp
Sometimes Miami Beach can be rough, stressful and mean..Arriving to Charlotte Bakery and received such an amazing service, such a kind treatment from the girl behind the counter was literally priceless! Unfortunately I didn't not catch her name..But please business owner make sure you thank her and treat her right because a person like her makes a big difference! BTW she was in the Sunday Morning shift..

Yelp
Stumbled across this little shop and I'm glad we found it! The lady working there had EXCELLENT customer service. She was super kind and took the time to explain the menu to us. I got one of their special empanadas - the pabellon - and the flavors were so delicious. It had shredded beef, beans, and plantains. The meat was juicy and the garlic sauce they had paired so well with it. Definitely worth the try!!
google avatar

Danyelle U.

Yelp
Cutest bakery shop! Has a variety of pastries and baked goods and cakes. The cinnamon tres leches is as delicious as it is huge and the black and white cookie has a filling that is so scrumptious. The prices are a bit high, but the flavor is definitely worth it!
google avatar

Yelp
Great South American bakery specializes in Venezuelan (fried) and Argentinian (baked) empanadas. We got the seafood and chicken Venezuelan empanadas but the seafood was by far the best. Friendly service. Fun place to get a quick snack, coffee or fresh fruit juices.

Yelp
Great cachapas!! This is our second time here and we will continue to come back when we are in town!! Great food, great service. Friendly staff!!

Yelp
My fiance and I had a day to spend in Miami, and he really wanted to try some authentic food. We found this place on Yelp and we were sold on coming! It's a cute little spot with sooo many baked goods. We came from lunch and shared an empanada which was stuffed to the brim and was delicious. He also loves tequenos so we had to get a few. They were huge and were so good. The sauces were to die for!! We also got this corn cake stuffed with cheeses and it was sooo good. The staff were so friendly and gave us great suggestions. Overall we were very impressed!

Yelp
Okay it's now our 4th day eating here. Service is great, not speaking Spanish can be overcome but if you habla it is easier! The mini lunch with a sweet pastry ham and cheese is a favorite followed by the guava pastry and breakfasts. The cafe con leaches is the best! Sit and enjoy it!
google avatar

Brian M.

Yelp
Small place but lots of options. Their spicy beef empanadas were really good as well as their croissant. I also liked their dulce de leche cookie. The cashier was also friendly and took time explaining the items I couldn't identify. This place is definitely a must place to visit if you want a quick small bite after walking around.

Yelp
We always stop by the Charlotte bakery when we visit South Beach. Breakfast is always delicious and coffee is always great. The service is always very fast as well.

T T.

Yelp
Amazing experience! The hostess was so incredibly nice and warming. She gave wonderful recommendations, and she was very welcoming. The empanadas are gigantic and filling. Each would essentially be a meal. At time of writing, the specialty empanadas are ~ $10 each. The seafood empanada actually contained scallop. Coffee was fresh and nice. Upon leaving, we were met with the response of "have a blessed day" Honestly, such amazing service. 100% would come back

Yelp
This is a good place in South Beach for breakfast. It's a bakery with quick pastries a la carte. We got some Argentinian and Venezuelan empanadas, and also this pastry called the "mini lunch" which was ham and cheese in a sweet puff pastry. All of the food was pretty good, but the empanadas were a bit dry and lacking flavor and needed to be dipped in the crema. The prices were okay, around $4 per empanada, and $6 for the Venezualan empanada and "mini lunch". There was friendly service and plenty of seating along the walls inside.
google avatar

Estrella A.

Yelp
As soon as we went in, the staff was very welcoming and attentive. It was mid-day on a Friday when we went so we weren't SUPER hungry. She advised us that we could share a plate from the breakfast menu and we also ordered an empanada and mango juice (soooo delicious) Huevos pericos brought: Tequeño 3 arepas And the huevos pericos Empanada: Con carne They had inside seating - and our food was brought out very fresh! 10/10 recommended if you are wanting something on the go and not too expensive.
google avatar

Nathali S.

Yelp
Prices are not updated on the website. A empanada Venezuela pavellon and a mini lunch ham and cheese. $15.82 And what bothered me the most is that he took out the mini lunch down and gave me one all burned and dry I asked him to change it because I didn't see where I got it from. I can't imagine paying $9 for something burned and dry. Be careful, this place is not for locals. Tourist prices and deceptions for tourists. .is not the same Charlotte bakery Argentina !
google avatar

Alex B.

Yelp
Going to be honest, i dont visit or eat at places like this so I was completely unaware when you got empanadas etc they just hand them to you room temp and you go lol, i thought they warmed them up first. flavors were fine on what I ate but the pastries/meat were a lil dry. Lady at the front counter was amazing tho, 10/10 saleswoman and customer service
google avatar

Moses M.

Yelp
Amazing authentic fresh empenadas. Person working the bakery was very friendly and we would definitely come back here to try more goodies.

Guissepe G.

Yelp
Cachito de jamón 6$ lol unacceptable every respectable Venezuelan place charges maximum 3$ for a cachito de jamón. I guess times are hard because this place use to thrive.
google avatar

Raya V.

Yelp
I love it here. The pastries and cookies are so delicious. The cortaditos are good and they have almond milk if you don't use dairy. Service is fast and the ambiance is cute. They have a little instagramable table where you can take some cute pics too.
google avatar

Francisco D.

Yelp
The servers were great and helpful when I walked through the doors. They answered my questions, made my coffee and worked with the staff to prepare my food. The food was flavorful and plentiful, but must admit much more expensive than I should have spent for breakfast. The costs made me give it a lower score.
google avatar

Aldo C.

Yelp
If you don't come to Charlotte's bakery, did you even come to Miami Beach ? Stop early in the morning for fresh beef empanadas and an espresso drink. You will not regret it as the warm charm of the bakers attending the front store is just inviting you to try all the goodies and gems they have ready for you. We came back for their tres leches cakes and the freshly squeezed juices.

Henry J.

Yelp
Simply outstanding! Great food, could not stop eating their savoury meat pastries, all were so tasty. Coffee was strong and perfect. To top it off, the service was so friendly and passionate, nice to see and support. Don't just walk, run to this place and you will be pleased.

Yelp
This is a gem of a Cuban bakery. I had to find a place to get a quick bite to eat on my way from my hotel to a conference and was able to walk in at 7:15am on a Saturday! Its important to me to taste some local flavors when I travel and this bakery knocked it out of the park. The display case had a significant number of freshly-made pastries. I chose a ham and cheese croissant; it was perfectly buttery and crispy with sweet glaze to counter the savory and salty ham and cheese. I ordered a fresh cortadito without sugar (not that more sugar would have mattered at that point lol). This is not something to eat very often due to the richness, but the ingredients tasted fresh and I actually didn't feel awful after eating it. If I find myself back in Miami for another conference, I think I'll try a breakfast arepa... and of course order another cortadito! I've not been to Cuba so I don't know if the layout of this establishment is similar to those in Cuba. For me, the ambiance of this bakery reminds me of many of the cafes in Italy where you just walk up, order a "cafe" espresso, quickly drink it and go about your way. They do have a sink to wash off your sticky, buttery fingers after you eat. The woman serving me was super sweet and helped to start my day off right! So glad I found Charlotte.

Autumn E.

Yelp
I was a little nervous walking in because I've never tried Venezuelan food before, but the woman at the counter was incredibly helpful! She answered all my questions and talked me through the menu options. I decided to get the Criollo breakfast and was so happy with that decision! The arepas were particularly delicious. Would definitely stop here again!

Yelp
Rebecca is such a lovey great vibes for a food bakery this bakery I have been coming for years for there famous tequenos!! recommend this bakery highly xoxox

Anastasios V.

Yelp
Amazing customer service and delicious pastries and coffee to start the day. I was pleasantly surprised.

Blanche S.

Yelp
Crazy about authentic Latin American food? Our visit to Miami Beach satisfied our cravings for Cuban hearty meals served at this inconspicuous corner along the famous Washington Ave. The big empanadas are loaded with your choice of savory fillings you can take to the airport to enjoy before your flight. The breakfast plates are a complete treat of arroz, frijoles, fried plantains, fluffy scrambled eggs, & tender meats.
google avatar

Amy B.

Yelp
During our stay at Miami Beach, we went there twice (2 weeks apart). Both times disappointed. I loved arepa. I had really good one in DC and Vegas. So I had to get the Charlotte arepa. It came as 3 greasy arepas with meat on top. The meat was tender but the arepas were tasteless and greasy. Definitely not worth $15. We also had a ham roll and a Cortadito coffee. Ham roll was basic. It came to $22+ and that's with a 20% discount. Second time we had a waffle with berries & cream and a corn pancake topped with cheese, coffee and an OJ. It came to almost $49. They said they could not do the 20% discount because the manager was not in yet. Instead, they comp the coffee which was like less than 5%. It definitely was expensive and the food was just ok. Will not be back.
google avatar

Mansta A.

Yelp
Baked good and empanadas are delicious. Coffee was terrible. I ordered an iced latte and he gave me an iced coffee and told me it's the same thing. Not sure if that is a cultural difference but I would not get the coffee again.
google avatar

Yelp
An unassuming bakery where pretty much everything is delicious! Not well labeled though, especially all the savory baked goods, so reviewing the Yelp photos beforehand is helpful to know what to order. And the Cachapas Lovers is a must! Cachapas Lovers: I can see why this is so popular! A very hearty yellow corn pancake with chewy soft cheese inside, crema-like texture cheese drizzled over and shredded cheese over that. It's a true corn and cheese lover's dream. Very filling too, as one of these split between grown men was actually enough for breakfast. Cachito: A thin dough with a slightly sweet glaze hiding a bunch of shredded ham inside. It's tasty, but a bit of ham overload. I actually find eating a tequeño side-by-side, by alternating bites of pastries, is a fun way to simulate a ham & cheese sandwich. Tequeño: I love these little cheese sticks. It's like someone decided to make a pastry version of the beloved mozzarella stick appetizer. The cheese has a nice squeaky chew at room temperature. Beef Chilean Empanada: Ground beef, hard boiled egg, raisins and olives make for quite a meal inside this baked dough shell. Loved the flavors, but the ingredients could have mixed in a bit better. It felt like all the non-beef stuff was clumped together in one corner. Shredded Chicken Venezuelan Empanada: Deep fried with an arepa-like shell. Love the rich creamy chicken side. I kinda prefer this style to the baked empanadas Guava Pastelito: Flaky pastry dough and a very generous amount of guava jelly. Like seriously, sometimes I complain about not enough guava and this totally is the answer! Caramel Cake: Felt like a Napoleon cake, but with dulce de leche on the top layer. The layers were a bit hard though, not easily break apart like what you might find at a French bakery. The custard layer was decent. Chocolate Alfajor: Buttery dry cookies, a generous amount of dulce de leche spread between and a light layer of chocolate. A very nice treat with coffee. Chocolate Covered Leche Mound: Like an open face alfajor, with just one cookie and a huge mound of dulce de leche that is then covered in chocolate. Since I'm a huge dulce de leche fan, this is more my speed.

Yelp
I wasn't really a big fan of this bakery. Came here to pick up a guava pastry, beef empanada, and guava cheese pastry. The guava pastry was a little too sweet for me because of the extra powdered sugar on top. The beef empanada was nice and flaky but the beef itself was dry. The best item I got was the guava cheese pastry. It was a little salty because of the cheese and sweet because of the guava filling. My only suggestion for this one is I thought the pastry shell was a little too thick.
google avatar

Jada C.

Yelp
Ehhh. I wish I had gone elsewhere for my first time trying an empanada. The empanada I ordered had shredded beef inside and boy was it dryer than the Sahara Desert. I only got the pleasure of eating the outside of the Empanada which is bread and that part was pretty good. I wish I had gotten some ketchup or something. I also order a huge chocolate chip cookie which was hands down one of the worst cookies I've ever had. It was dry and hard... the chocolate chips had no flavor and the cookie itself had the consistency of an overcooked slice of cornbread. Skip the cookies.. your teeth will thank you. Now the best for last I guess was the strawberry cheesecake! This was my favorite out of the bunch. Pretty rich and the flavor was just so good! The service was very rushed in my opinion but the bakery had a really homie vibe which was nice.

Thomas S.

Yelp
Amazing food, all of the employees are super friendly. The food items are big, you won't leave hungry. It's a must go to if you're in the area. I've been here a dozen times & I'll keep coming back.

Deep Talk w.

Yelp
The woman serving me set the tone from the moment I walked in the door. The quality didn't stop at the service though. The flavor in the chicken empanada didn't make it to see a picture. The waffle and coffee after were a perfect finish to a lovely experience. I've only been to two places so far, but y'all are 2/2 Miami cuisine. Excited to see what else you have in store!

Ben S.

Yelp
Spent a week in South Florida and had a goal to go to a Cuban bakery before leaving. On our last morning we ventured here as a close enough alternative. Everything was fantastic. I got a platter of various things and they were all amazing, with the real stars being the black beans, fried plantains, and arepas. The eggs could have used hot sauce, but when I asked they surprisingly said they didn't have anything. My wife had French toast, it was good but not anything special. We also got a chicken empanada and some sort of cheese stuffed pastry that they said was a best seller. Both were ok, but could have used a little something else.
google avatar

Joe J.

Yelp
I came upon this bakery while searching for coffee and then the food looked so delicious I had to sample it. The first thing I picked up was a Alfjor . It's a desert item and is delicious. I'm not a Cuban food expert so I'm just pointing at things behind the counter and grunting. The empanadas were just picked as more of a , oh that looks good I'll take it. Let me just say I'm so glad I picked these up, omg. So good I brought more people back the next day to sample the food and desert. It's not expensive and located just blocks from the beach this bakery is worth the stop. Just remember I'll take an empanada and a alfjor please.
google avatar

Nikhil R.

Yelp
Maybe it's because we came here at 7pm on a weekday, but all the items here looked old and stale. The empanadas looked dry and the dessert croissants with different jellies or custard look very unappetizing. Staff also did not take interest in giving us information about the items they had available.
google avatar

Hokuto K.

Yelp
Excellent selection of empanadas!! Best I have ever had in the United States! I highly recommend the shredded beef, black beans, cheese, sweet plantain one!

Jimmie R.

Yelp
We were searching for a breakfast spot and stumbled upon Charlotte Bakery. This food is amazing and their fresh fruit juice is the best!!! The employees were great, too!
google avatar

Joanna V.

Yelp
Recommended by a couple of yelpaholics, I tried. Some bakery goods like empanadas, you'll find. Forget your new year's resolution and South Beach diet. May as well give that up in order to try it. Empanadas! Empanadas: pork, chicken, cheese. Gimme more green sauce with that pwiddy please. Bookmarked, checked-off, satisfied tummy. Those empanadas were flaky and yummy.
google avatar

Anjolie J.

Yelp
Great food here! I stopped to get a quick brunch and was really pleasantly surprised. The lady behind the counter that helped me was also very nice. I got the shredded chicken empanada - it was huge! It was a bit greasy, but the flavor was delicious, and whatever creamy green sauce they served with it was fantastic. The guava pastry was amazing, I'd highly recommend getting it. I had been looking around for guayaba pastries because I was told that Miami was known for them, and I'm glad I got one here. It was delicious!

Yelp
Charlotte bakery was a great find while in Miami Beach. The bakery is locally owned and their Venezuelan food was delicious. We were greeted by friendly service, and enjoyed the Christmas special, Hellacas, as well as some other savory and sweet treats. Rebecca was awesome, she took time to tell us about all of their treats, and recommended some options for us. Also, the coffee and strawberry juice were delicious as well. I highly recommend Charlotte Bakery.
google avatar

Daniela D.

Yelp
Charlotte bakery was once owned and operated by Uruguayan's , Venezuelan and Argentine's. This place is in the heart of south beach. I grew up going here for breakfast and then later on as I became a teenager I frequented more often because I worked right across from the place. Since then I moved to NY and I recently came back home with high hopes of finding the same owners or at least finding the once very busy and loved Charlotte Bakery, only to see a somewhat empty and not as warm place to hang or talk or just pass by and grab an empanada and coffee. Prices are high and it's just not worth it. I do want to note people here behind the counter are extremely kind, and polite. And there to help and service you. So most of my stars go to them ! Sad to not see the once very familiar Charlotte and taste the same empanadas and sweets and even chicken fried cutlet sandwiches we all kept coming back for! Good times!

Pam D.

Yelp
Amazing little family owned bakery that has the best guava pastries, Argentinian and Venezuelan empanadas!!! The woman at the register was so sweet & polite. She helped us pick out which empanadas we might like. I HIGHLY recommend the cordon bleu one. The gentleman that was there explained the desserts to us. The prices were extremely reasonable for the south Beach area. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Miami!!

Yelp
A Fried Tequeno, excellent cheese makes it a great treat. Along with a cortadito and you are ready to hit the road. Friendly service tasty food. Venezuelan sanctuary.
