Château 49

We really wanted to enjoy a nice evening with wine and good food on a weekday and ended up in Chateau. They have happy hour drinks till 7pm for $9 a glass which is a good value. The only disappointing part of this evening was the service. We wanted to order the 2nd round of drinks before the happy hour cut, and the server denied them for friends with half full glasses. Then we all ordered main plates, and while still working on our food the waiter brought us the check. We didn't give it too much thought, as we weren't done and wanted to also enjoy desserts. So we ordered their flan and dessert wines and were trying to enjoy the evening. That's when the waiter told us to hurry up because they needed the table for someone else. It was exactly 1 hour from the time we sat at the table until we were asked to empty the table. Not the best feeling for your $60+ pp cost. I wouldn't come back here just because of the service. If they were upfront that we get only 1hr at the table, that would have been more fair.

What a fantastic wine bar! Rocco and his staff are so hospitable and welcoming. I hosted a business dinner last week at Chateau 49 for 20 people, all with pretty discerning palates. The wines and food did not disappoint! Their flatbreads, octopus, steaks, escargot and duck were delicious - not a morsel was left on the plate. The staff was very attentive. They made sure to pace the food appropriately and kept the wine flowing so that our dinner was lively and high energy. So glad I picked this place instead of a stuffy steakhouse or long drawn out dinner. Attentive staff, delicious food, high quality wines and a relaxed, casual ambience. Highly recommend it for group outings.

Chateau 49 is a corner property with indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating has both covered and uncovered options. The location is perfect for people watching. The interior is small with. bar area in the front of the restaurant. On the day I visited there was a single server and bartender. However the server was great! The food was fresh and beautifully prepared. I had salmon and the chef accommodated order modifications to account for allergies. The wine was very reasonably priced and they even had happy hour specials on the weekend! The bar area can be a bit boisterous but the meal exceeded my expectations. This is a neighborhood gem!

Chateau 49 is without a doubt one of the best French Restaurants in New York City. The atosmephere is laid back and welcoming, giving the vibe of a chic restaurant in the French countryside. The drinks are world class, made by one of the best bartenders in the city. I can highly recommend a Mezcal Old Fashioned or an Espresso Martini. The wine list is also exceptional, with a selection of around 50 wines, it will be very difficult to find any restaurant that can match the quality and amount of wine that Chateau has. The food is absolutely incredible and a must have fir those who believe they do not like French cuisine. Before coming here, I was not a fan of snails, like most people, however one taste of the buttery and garlicky Escargots here was what changed my mind. You will never have a better escargot anywhere outside of France. The signature burger is incredible and I highly recommend it with the truffle fries. It easily gives well known burger spots like Gotham Burgers a run for the money, with the atmosphere putting them over the top. There isna lot more I could say about this amazing little restaurant but this review is long enough as it is. I highly recommend everyone from locals to tourists come and try it out because I can promise that most who come will end up regulars, just like I did.

Food was good. Lots of flavor in the escargot and burrata. Steak burger was good. Pasta had a little too much truffle oil. Fries were in pieces like lots of small bits stuck together then some long ones. Service was good, just too cold for outdoor. Definitely recommend.

Chateau 49 is more than a local neighborhood eatery. The customer service is filled with warmth, laughter and quality ingredients. Vibrant yet elegant, the food and libations are something to write home about. Where else in NYC can you enjoy fresh French dishes while sipping on eclectic wine/spirits options all on a very reasonable price point. Not to mention, the husband and wife duo who are extremely inviting and never forget a face. Please, don’t hesitate to at least give it a try, you won’t regret it!

Great little neighborhood French Bistro that serves delicious brunch. I've not had lunch nor dinner here so can't comment on those meals, but they have a nice selection of brunch items along with a bottom drink option. Service is efficient and friendly and space is cozy.

$9 HH wine until 7pm. The food is a little expensive but tasty and our server was particularly impeccable. We dropped a napkin and he swooped it up and brought us a new one before we even realized we dropped it, we mentioned maybe having another glass before HH ends and he brings us a refill exactly one minute before 7, very attentive and very high level of service.

Wonderful establishment for some appetizers and wine! Service was good and the ambiance was perfect- dimly lit, good noise levels, nice window for people watching. I appreciated that they don't rush you. This was my first time trying a wine bar and this place has set the bar high!

A must go Everytime I'm in NYC. The Branzini is bomb. The chicken is amazing. No matter where you're staying in the city this is worth the visit. Small restaurant with a cute bar. Happy hour can be crowded. If you want exquisite French cuisine, good wine without breaking the bank , make a stop at Chateau 49. It's one of those big city secrets that will make you feel like you know the city

Went at night, it was quiet but the service was great. The bartender made the best Hugo Spritz!

Charming quaint French cafe with a great neighborhood vibe, friendly efficient service and - perhaps most importantly - generous happy hour drink specials every day from 12:00 to 7:00, available at the bar and at table. My $7 pour of a very dry sauvignon blanc really hit the spot on a warm evening. The mussels in my pot of moules frites were plump, briny and scrumptious. If you like shepards pie you'll love their "Hachis Parmentier", nicely spiced chopped beef and veggies topped with a generous dollop of creamy mashed potatoes. Yum! I wasn't hungry enough for dessert this time but will definitely be back to try their fondant au chocolat that I saw on a neighboring table. It looked divine.

Came to Chateau 49 for Restaurant Week. It's a cute place and got filled pretty quickly. Service was attentive and friendly. Food was good (we got the tuna tartare and escargots for apps, branzino and steak au poivre for main entrees, and creme caramel aka flan and fondant au chocolat aka molten chocolate lava cake for desserts). I've been to better places, but this place is fine if you're in the area and want some French dining. The steak was prepared medium rare like we wanted and the escargots cream sauce was tasty. The others were ok and desserts were standard, nothing really stood out. The wines were great and they have happy hour 12-7pm daily!

I would normally give this place a 4 but the moldy bread and service brought them to a 3. When we were seated we were generally given a "sit wherever," but when we decided to sit closer to the back of the outdoor seating area (to give the other table of people a bit of space), we were told to come back up front without much of a reason. We had a glass of wine each and some charcuterie. The happy hour here is well priced! That being said, my friend and I saw some mold on the bread. When we (politely) let the waitress know, someone who I believe was the owner came over to us with a general dismissive vibe. "The bread here is baked fresh in house every day, that's yeast." I have never seen gray yeast in my entire life and I mentioned that, but she didn't seem to care. I'll share a picture so you all can decide for yourselves, but the lack of concern or compassion was unimpressive to me.

They have a good happy hour. The service is great. I always have the same waitress. She is very attentive and great. The beef tartare is very good.

I am embarrassed to admit the number of times I passed this restaurant and never tried it. Was it worth the wait? Yes. I admit I would come back even for the bread! Decent happy hour specials. The wine was a small pour but pleasant. The spritz was more generous and delightful. The mussels were succulently delicious. Fries were crispy, a little salty for my liking but also very nice. Our waitress was nice and we enjoyed the outside space decor was delicate and pleasant. Highly recommend

Came here for happy hour thinking that Aperol Spritzes were $9 but we were told they were not. That being said every day until 7pm they have wine on happy hour for $7 and beers for $6. The service here was great, as not only were our wine glasses always full but so were our water glasses. The wine was on point. A friend of mine had the lobster mac and cheese. There was not too much lobster but it was supposedly delicious still. Overall a great place to stop in for a happy hour, especially on the weekend! Would try this place again!

Ok so this is a spot I have heard mentioned a few times and finally got a chance to dine at - make it your mission to go to Chateau 49 as soon as possible. The food totally blew me away. Went a few days back for a group event - and although the dining area is somewhat small we were very comfortable together. Rocco was awesome taking all of our orders quickly as well as making drinks almost instantaneously. We started with appetizers, the escargot was amazing, it was my first time having it anywhere and was happy to have tried it. Similarly, the grilled octopus was so good I couldn't even get a picture, it was gone so quickly. I have to say that the real deal superstar that will draw me back to Chateau 49 is the Risotto Champignons. I actually don't even like risotto in general (it's a texture issue, rice all day for me) and was completely hooked on the first bite. Make it your mission to get out there for it. My main plate was the steak au poivre, cooked medium but I sampled the chicken as well. Actually more than sampled, I just started stealing food is what it felt like it was so good. Finished the night with the fondant au chocolate as I'm a sucker for a good lava cake and a beignet. Legit can't wait to go back. I am hopeful that more people will experience this gem on 2nd Ave.

Great Aperol Spritz! Good Happy Hour. Attentive servers. Nice casual place. The quiche Lorraine was delicious.

When i asked about their 12-7 happy hour and asked why was it so long their response is because we are very happy people and yes, yes they are! A great spot to enjoy their lunch menu! For restaurant week they have a 35 dollar fixe menu of all amazing food! I came in for their burrata for apps and left with salmon and a creme delicious dessert. All for 35 dollars. The bartender was extremely friendly and the people that go sounded like regulars which i don't blame them because I am about to become one too!

Hidden gems. Neighborhood wine bar. Happy Hour 12-7 every day. Where can we find a glass of Sauvignon Blanc at $7.00 in Manhattan but here? Great service, my * best friend * bartender who is super friendly, efficient , very knowledgeable, & dry welcoming. I know this will be my go to bar in my new neighborhood. Highly recommend!

I cannot speak to the positive reviews as that was not my experience. The first red flag should've been that Chateau 49 does not allow you to try wines. What wine bar doesn't allow you to try the wine? When I shared with the waiter -- who ended up bringing the manager to our table, that I didn't like the wine, he seemed insulted on behalf of the wine. The decor and ambiance are nothing special, and the service is fine -- nothing special or worth coming here for.

This place is good. I've only been for brunch but I like their croque madame and their couscous salad

I recently moved into this neighbourhood so was happy to find a local bistro. They have a happy hour menu with great drink selections and light food. Their regular menu is also great with traditional bistro selections. I have become a regular.

Delish!!!! We sat at a lovely outdoor table and the service was fabulous. I can't recall what my friend ordered but i had the roast chicken and it was divine. I don't like spinach so i substituted asparagus. My meal was truly top notch!!! The chicken was juicely and the skin was amazing. I'll definitely be back!!!

Total buzzkill, a cute neighborhood corner location, my wife asked the waiter for an exchange for her wine upon sampling, the owner/ bartender came over and accused us of drinking half the glass and basically made us feel like we committed a crime. We were so embarrassed and insulted, we paid up for the sample and the next poor and left without finishing. Unbelievable poor customer service. Total buzzkill, Plus the wine was awful.

It's been a while since I've gone to a bar and cried. I walked in (as a local haven't been here in a bit but decided to go for a glass of wine) and I got greeted by a woman I can only imagine is a owner or regular - blonde hair and red lipstick who literally made me cry the awful looks she gave me- Called the place after to ask for the manager and told they weren't there. I will call again tomorrow but I swear she was an owner.

I would give this experience a 0 if I could, and not because the food and drinks weren't great. The service staff was nice, with the exception of the horribly rude and ill tempered bartender/manager/owner. I have enjoyed my time here several times, but I will not be going back after witnessing the wrath of this man on some of his (innocent, paying, respectful) patrons in front of the entire restaurant. I have never seen such an ugly demonstration of humiliation than I did that evening from him. I advise that others beware if visiting this establishment, as he may perform this way towards you. Very disappointing to see this type of behavior in an otherwise enjoyable place. Ambiance is OK if you like to watch people be screamed at while you enjoy your vino and escargot.

Great cozy wine bar for happy hour until 7PM daily - $7 wines. Food is decent, the Escargot ($16) is not served in snail shells though - it comes in a creamy garlic parsley sauce, good to dip your bread in. The Truffle Fries ($12) are good and the Beef Tartare ($22) was good to share. Will be back for happy hour!

A gem of a place! Fantastic food, extremely friendly owners and staff, and spectacular wine and cocktails. To top it off co-owners Rrok and Flo have a loyal following of customers who make the place that much more special. Highly highly recommend Chateau 49!

WORDS OF ADVICE...READ ALL THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS!! Like many others, I have NEVER been spoken to or treated in a way the manager/server (Florianne) treated my friend and I. I ordered a glass of wine before happy hour ended (at 6:50) and was verbally assaulted LITERALLY verbally assaulted for ordering a 2nd glass of wine on happy hour with my dinner salad while I still had a sip left in my 1st glass.

We had a Thanksgiving dinner here with friends - exquisite. The wines are lovely and the food is equally as good. Prepared with great skill; served with a smile; 5 stars. Go here now.

While on our way to another restaurants, my coworkers and I decided to dine at Chateau 49 because we saw a lot of tables open (in the shade too). Order: - Poulet roti aux herbes (5/5) - Aperol spritz (4/5) Pros: - A lot of great options to choose from - Great tasting food - Kind servers - Large portions Cons: - Kinda dangerous set up as some of their seating lies between the car and bike traffic, so be careful while walking to and from the table to the sidewalk Overall: I really enjoyed my dish. It reminded me of my time in France!

After a hair appointment, I really wanted foie gras or pate. I yelped the closest place that sold it and saw that this place had both. I've passed this place so many times because I used to live on that block, but never went. So I got there and decided to have a solo sunday early night wine and dine session with my new hair. I first ordered a class of happy hour aperol spritz, decent, and a foie gras. It did its job. I then was feeling pretty hungry and all so I reluctantly got the pate. It was a pork pate which I wasn't all that a fan of, but I just got it. It was fairly small and not all that great. I had to leave here sooner than I wanted to because I had someone call about the most ridiculous thing ever (girl drama...) and I was disturbing everyone else at the restaurant....Sorry... Overall, I don't think I will go back here not because it was bad, but because there are other places closer to me that doesn't require me to go out of my way and walk all the way there.

Went here for lunch and got their burger which was average but still good. Comes with fries. Another person got the flat bread pizza which was tasty too. The wine we got was solid as well. Good ambience but food wise seemed average, solid though.

Recently moved into the neighborhood and Chateua 49 has quickly become my "go-to" spot. The food is amazing -- large and diverse menu. Amazing atmosphere, perfect for night out with friends, date night, work happy hour, etc. Extensive wine list and knowledgeable staff. Their signature chicken dish is a must try, as well as their steak au poivre. 10 out of 10.

Zero stars. Owner extremely rude. I ordered wine which didn't taste quite right so asked for something else- was told no. And it would not be taken off the check. Owner argumentative and said he had enough customers so basically didn't care what we thought. There are many options in the area (La cava, Sophie's) - go there instead.

Decent wine bar. Intimate atmosphere- good for a date. Had a decent selection of wine by the glass.

My family lives just down the street, so every few years we eat here, and every time we remember why we don't eat here. The food is mediocre, and it is overpriced for what it is. But the most frustrating piece is the service: This past visit they got our order wrong, blamed us, and refused to correct it. The only way they said they would bring us our original order is if we paid for that, in addition to paying for the wrong order we never asked for. This neighborhood is literally filled with restaurants. I'm sure you can find a better choice.

Oh la la~ This was a really cute restaurant my friend and I walked into for some dinner and wine and I LOVED IT. The atmosphere was also good for a romantic spot with excellent food and a nice wine selection. I definitely recommend the Tatare de Thon and any of their flatbreads. Goes great with vino!!

An absolute shame of a bar, with a rude bartender that clearly doesn't know his job, and almosts insults his client and hen they dare criticize his fraud of a cocktail. Avoid at any cost

Beautiful French wine bar with a pleasant ambience, warm staff and some great selection of wine. Good after work place to chill and de-stress.

One of our favorite spots. I'm not a big French good fan but their charcuterie boards and tuna tar tar are the best. The ambiance of the place is really cute too and is perfect for dates. My favorite part are the owners who are a married couple and have very funny interactions between each other. I went there for my birthday once and they brought out some dessert with candies which was cute.

I ordered a dish for take out which was missing/lacked a lot of the ingredients it mentioned on the menu for a total of $22. I went back the next day, asking ONLY to ADD some of the missing ingredients. Not my money back, etc, only to have the manager YELL at me, telling me that he didnt care that I lived in the neighborhood and to GET OUT. I have NEVER EVER been spoken to like that by a proprietor. I would suggest NO ONE waste their money to someone so rude and obnoxious. Many other good restaurants around.

I always seem to be stumbling upon this wine bar on my days off in the city. Not only is it so welcoming on its second avenue outdoor seating side, but the interior and outside heated/covered patio is welcoming as well. Their menu is best described as fresh and delicious. I have ordered their cous cous salad, spinach and Swiss quiche+salad, and zucchini pesto pasta. All of them have left me satisfied and feeling guilt free when leaving, even after a few beers or glasses of wine. On top of all this, their staff is very quick, friendly, and attentive. I would recommend this restaurant as a place to have a first date or drop in alone for some Hors d'oeuvres.

What a horrible place! I walked in and I was told brunch until 4 PM. Another jerk of a guy at 3:50 takes the menu away and says brunch is already over. When his "co-worker" said that it was still available to 4 PM. What an obnoxious jerk & rudest service. Never going back to this horrible place.

Really great place, and one of our local places. Service is fantastic - always a nice smile and there are never any requests that aren't handled with a great attitude. The food is solid - a nice French bistro menu - and they pay attention to details. Reasonably priced wine list, and good happy hour. Everything to like about this spot.

What a little gem. Food 10 out of 10. Service 10 out of 10. Exactly what we were looking for. Risotto was superb, not overdone or overflavoured, pure perfection (at least for me). Staff gave just the right amount of attention, drinks were flawless desert was as expected. Overall, absolutely recommend this place.

THE CHEESEBURGERS! Omg! I've been coming to this place for a few months and I have to say this is one of the absolute best spots in the city. If you're lucky enough to be a local I can see why you like living here. The cheeseburgers... Oh my God! The mix of filet mignon and brisket with caramelized onions and so many other tasty Things. There is just too much. Def a spot to keep in your back pocket or for lunch. It's that type of place.

Excellent and authentic! The atmosphere was welcoming and the service was outstanding! I had the Steak Au Poivre and it was out of the world! Highly recommend. The portions were great and the price was reasonable.
