they must be known for their absinthe because that was the largest part of the menu. also many good cocktails… a little confusing tho because the server wouldn’t let us order certain drinks because “they weren’t good”. the popcorn was cute but was a very small portion for popcorn (i mean, popcorn is really cheap to buy and to make). however the room was really pretty and the views were nice.

The absinthe selection was the best I've seen outside of new Orleans and the staff were lovely. The music selection just didn't jive with either of us though and at times bordered on obnoxious which prevented this from being a 5 star experience for either of us. We did try some excellent popcorn (and I'm not a popcorn person so that's high praise from me) but otherwise didn't order any food but the menu looked fantastic.

Gorgeous sunset views and a nice absinthe selection. Don’t plan more than a quick trip for the drinks and views, though, the snacks are an overpriced afterthought— so much so that most areas don’t even have tables, just fire pits with small ledges that caused our cheese to melt and absinthe to warm up. Overall the views make the visit, just be sure to have plans afterwards for more drinks or dinner

The service is the sole reason I will never return. The staff needs a complete overhaul on customer service training. I asked if we could be seated on the patio after speaking to the hostesss, who said she would try her best to accommodate. I informed my server and asked if she could keep a look out for a table outside, to which she laughed and replied "well, good luck". At time of payment, my card was not handed to me. I got another customer's card handed to me, and my card was given to a stranger. But there was no extra effort to fix the issue by the server, it was just a big ol oops sorry. Other than that the views and outdoor space are nice. Unfortunately I will never return.

I absolutely loved this place ! The views of the city are great, the service was lovely and the food was nice. Keep in mind that the outdoor seating is limited so make reservations during summer, the inside seating is really beautiful too. It is pricey but worth it in my opinion. They don’t have a big menu but they serve small appetizers and wine and cocktails as well.

Nice rooftop, good selection of cocktails and absinthe, cute popcorn. Service wasn’t great - the server barely acknowledged me, especially at the end when she dropped off my card and then walked away. She recommended this angel food cake dessert which was likely the worst dessert I’ve ever had. It was weird and none of the parts came together - just some pieces of dry cake, a glob of ice cream, some Graham cracker crumbs, and very sour cherries thrown in :( No veg options other than olives and popcorn.

What a gorgeous venue for a winter pre-dinner drink and appetizers. I do warn you though the small plates are for 2 people. It also takes over an hour for them to come out so plan accordingly. The crab cakes were our favorite! The drinks were festive and delicious. We'll definitely be back in summer. Note: there are fire pits and blankets set up in the lodges to keep you warm. So get a reservation in advance.

Booked the Chateau Carbide experience on OpenTable to celebrate my husband’s birthday and our anniversary. The whole setup is super cute and something different to do but would say poorly executed. They really need to insulate them better. It was about 35 degrees on Saturday night while we were out there and trust me, we felt every bit of it despite having blankets, coats on, and the fire. It was still something fun and different to do but would have been much better if it was 15 degrees warmer. They also said that they couldn't turn the string lights in the garland on so that was disappointing for the ambiance and also confusing because they were on in some of the other chateaus. I would still say 4 out of 5 for experience alone though. So in order to book a chateau, you agree to a $300 food and beverage minimum. The issue here is that the menu is pretty limited. We really struggled to find enough things to order for just the 2 of us to get close to that amount. Unfortunately the drinks were not good. We tried multiple cocktails including the Apres Ski Party and the Star Crossed and glasses of the Cabernet. All were unpleasant to drink. We also got multiple rounds of glasses of Cab (again to get to the minimum) and each time they came in totally different wine glasses and tasted completely different from each other. Mind you that there was only one Cabernet option on the menu. The food was very mediocre. We got the lobster roll, the sliders, and the short rib. They were all fine but nothing special. We also ordered the s'mores platter which was probably the best thing we ordered and I would recommend for cute marshmallow roasting with the fire. Finally noting that we had a 7pm reservation but we were not seated in our chateau until 7:30 because they were running behind with the reservations and they were all full. It is supposed to be a 90-minute time limit so they were likely behind schedule. But just something to note, we were flexible on time so it was fine but you may not want to book before anything that you have to be at by a certain time.

Big fan of tiki drinks and rooftop bars. When I saw that Strong Water Anaheim would be doing a pop-up, I promptly booked a spot. In all fairness...I wasn't quite sure what this would entail. As the advertisement was unclear other than specialty drinks from Strong Water would be served and lite bites. I tried getting more info on this venue's social media and website. Only thing I could ascertain was that there was a French Happy Hour from 5 to 7pm. Well...not on this evening which was a bummer. They decided no happy hour because of the pop-up. Had I known that was no happy hour, I would of went to happy hour somewhere else and came for the view and tiki drink after 7pm. Anyway...first disappointment was no happy hour. Second disappointment was slow service. It took over 30 minutes to get our cocktails. Our server was nice and even served us a cup of popcorn with their housemade yeast seasoning but this really dampered the mood. There was only 2 dedicated server for the whole patio. Seriously there were more hostess. By the time we got our first round we were ready to go. The menu didn't interest us and we didn't want to pay for another $20 drink. On this occasion they did have DJ settings up as we were leaving. The social media said live music 6pm to 8pm. We left at 650pm. It was too late to get happy hour downtown by this point. While I enjoyed my drink, I was underwhelmed with the pop-up. Really I think it was a missed opportunity for both businesses to showcase their brands. Overall the view was spectacular, one of our servers was nice. The bathrooms were clean. Unsure if I would return but maybe.

Stopped in for a Friday night experience. Great views on the rooftop and Alexis was very friendly and knowledgeable. The Cannonfire bourbon drink was a 3/5 but expensive. My issue was the slow service. It seems that they were short staffed. Be ready to wait. For the price paid , I expected more . I gave an extra star for the view alone

Great atmosphere on the roof of the Pendry hotel. Made a reservation for New Year's eve, there was a live violinist and a dj. Definitely high end, the prices show it. Ordered a Frappe Caribe and it was very underwhelming for $22. The baked cheese with fig jam was great, cheaper than the drinks. Come check it out for a good vibe and view, but don't expect amazing beverages.

I feel like this place is underrated re rooftop and views! I hardly hear anyone taking about it, maybe because it is so hidden. But it's a great little drink spot! Some fun food options too, menu seems to change often. Unique absinthe drinks . But definitely pricey!

Relaxing rooftop on the top of the Pendry hotel. 3.5 stars Highlights: - Atmosphere: chill, quiet, and couch seating indoors and outdoors Midlights: - Didn't have reservations open so we started indoors but eventually the staff led us to be able to sit outdoors. Lowlights: - Most cocktails had absinthe in them which is not my favorite. Overpowered each drink with that black licorice flavor. Nice environment to enjoy a few evening drinks without crowds.

Definitely a hidden and unknown rooftop bar which was cute, quiet and provided beautiful views of the city. We did not eat any food, but the drinks were nice. A speciality is their use of the fever tree mix in their drinks. Service was pleasant. It is first come first serve but we didn't send up waiting too long for a seat for two.

We were a little underwhelmed. This is on top of the Pendry so we had decent expectations. The elevator takes entirely too long to get there. Once upstairs the hostesses were all super nice even though patrons are oblivious to anything else going on. The entry way is a tight squeeze. Once seated, the rooftop is a small area. Nice area for pictures and a sunset. The menu is pretty centered around Absinthe. The food menu is very limited and small bites, don't go expecting to really eat. Drinks were good, service was ok.

Overall good drinks, albeit a bit expensive most likely due to the fact that it is in a very popular area with a very nice view of the city on the 24th floor of the Pendry building. Drinks are made exactly the way they are written, so there are no negative surprises or positive pleasant surprise highlights. My friends and I ordered the Bonjour (belvedere vodka, blueberry, vanilla, absinthe, and fever-tree club soda), the Frappe Carbide (absinthe, raspberry, lychee, fever-tree sparkling lime & yuzu, and eggwhite), and the two spirit free drinks: Evening in the Garden (lapsang souchang, lemon, fever-tree sparkling sicilian lemonade) and Lime Basil Spritz (lime basil syrup, soda, and olive oil). I will speak to the Bonjour that I ordered: It has a lot of red licorice at the bottom, so if you are a fan of licorice, you will love it for sure when you mix the drink up. Otherwise, drinking it as is will be just fine. The bar has a good amount of cozy couches on the rooftop that turn out very nice in the summer in the evening. If you have a large party of people, it will be completely fine as each area with couches is pretty big.

Really nice view and rooftop ambience Heaters were not very warm. Service was very good. Food and Drinks were a little above average depending on how much you spend.

Came here twice now with fiends from out of town and I, selfishly, love that the crowds have not overrun this location. The views are terrific and the vibe is much more relaxed than the Uber busy competing rooftop locations. The first time we sat inside and really like the vibe - we can get a bit loud after a few drinks but we even had our server hysterically laughing! (Everyone here is so nice!). The second time I came, despite the cloud coverage, we sat outside to take in the views and fresh air. The outdoor furniture was super comfortable too! We settled on a bottle of Chandon Rosé which came out super fast! Service here was top notch - they even moved us inside and held a table for us inside once it started to sprinkle. Next visit I will be trying the sushi - it looks amazing and I wish we would hav come here for food and not just drinks.

The rooftop is nice! Not the best in the city, but a welcome addition. It's in one of my favorite buildings . We came on a Saturday night without a reservation and was able to get a spot outside. The Bartender works very hard to make sure everyone who wants one has a tasty drink in hand. Friendly staff. I appreciate the manager supporting the bartender by telling people it will be a couple minutes before another order could be placed to the lone Bartender isn't super overwhelmed. Drink was pricy, but not offensively so, and it was well balanced. I'd return.

Returning after the not so pleasant visit last time, me and my friend had a very nice late afternoon as well as early evening here. The manager was very nice to welcome us back with a voucher and I am happy that I get to experience this cute rooftop again. We ordered a bottle of my favorite ( 2020 Sancerre) with a special roll ( $25 and quite delicious! )

First time dining at Chateau Carbide. It was more of a lounge than a restaurant, but still very comfortable. The portioning of each item was great. I ordered one of everything as their menu is not that large. Service was overall good, but I do wish that our items were more spaced out when receiving. Definitely recommend trying if a fan of sushi, but I don't think I would return again. Fabulous spot for cocktails, surprisingly good sushi and wine/champagne in one of Chicago's most beautiful buildings (Carbon & Carbide, made exclusively to resemble a bottle of champagne). The indoor ambiance is just as lovely and humble as the outdoor. They can accommodate groups pretty well with their oversized booths indoors and lounge furniture outdoors. We had the most delightful server who informed us that there would be a Pendry opening up in DC on the wharf, which I could not be more excited for. Strongly recommend to anyone looking for a hip/sexy/classy spot. Next time I'm hoping to stay in the hotel with the hope that the rooms are just as cool as this bar. Can't wait for my next trip back here!

I am glad my friends and I were able to visit Chateau Carbide while we were in town visiting! My friend made a reservation or 3:30 pm on a Saturday. We arrived at the Pendry Hotel and were escorted to the elevators where we were instructed to go to the 24th floor. Since we were a few minutes early, we decided to hang out in the lobby for a bit and freshen up in the powder room. The lobby of this hotel is classy. When we were ready to go upstairs, we waited for the elevator and there was a hostess on the elevator who was checking people in for their reservations. She was super friendly and when we made it upstairs, she informed us that there was not an outside table available so we were given the option of either sitting inside or we would hang out at the "free-standing" bar outside. We opted for the outside view so that we could take photos and enjoy a rooftop afternoon. She then walked us over to the bar where we were to order our drinks and then she told us she would check on us a little later in case a table opens up. My friends and I were at the bar where Ian and Shaun were making drinks and being fabulous! There were a few different menus for us to look at, but I saw the Frosé machine and knew what I needed in my life! The cocktails on the menu all used some key ingredients and we knew they would be tasty no matter what we ordered. My Frosé came in a cute little pink cup with a recyclable straw. It was so refreshing on a hot day! After we all received our drinks, we left our tabs open (they keep your credit card) and walked outside to hang out and take photos. The view from the rooftop is pretty cool and they have included some good furniture and plants to make the rooftop feel tropical. I will say that this is a very small rooftop with not much room to linger or move around. I imagine on a business afternoon or evening it might get too crowded so I am glad we went during a less busy time. After hangout out for a bit, we needed another cocktail so we made our way back inside to the bar. We decided at this time, that we wanted to sit down and cool off so we were able to snag a table right next to the bar which was nice. We all ordered another round of drinks and while we were sitting down, we noticed that Shaun was making a large cocktail (picture included) for a group. I found out that they can make any of their cocktails for large groups and they will provide it in their fancy pitcher for sharing. It was fun to watch him put this together and I hope the group enjoyed it, but I was quite happy with my glass of Rosé. We were ready to pay our tabs and closed out pretty easily. We found the hostess (Maria) and she was gracious enough to take our photo of the 4 of us while we were outside and then we were on our way to the next stop for the day.

A friend and I decided to last minute check out this place on a Friday evening. We made reservations just incase online and found that there was availabilities open around 7:30 pm, and when we arrived, we were seated pretty quickly inside. We ended up ordering some drinks (a glass of rose and and the Kishi Bashi cocktail) as well as the Midway roll and the Windy City roll. I was pleasantly surprised by the sushi rolls as they were quite tasty; however, coming from the Bay Area, I would say I thought everything was quite pricey for the amount of food that we got. Although the area is small, this rooftop does get a pretty nice view of the area's skyline. There was also a live DJ playing some great music the night that we were there. As more people started to come in, it did seem like the staff was a little disorganized; however, everyone was super nice. Overall, if you're wanting to grab some small bites and drinks with your friends while getting a view, I would consider coming here.

This little spot is located on the 24th floor of the stunning Carbide and Carbon building in Chicago. This gem of a Chicago building has long been one of our favorites to gaze at. So when we discovered they'd opened a rooftop space, we stalked reservations. We got in this past Saturday. When we arrived they escorted us to a small, low top cocktail table in a comfy lounge area. There was room for about 16-20 people in the space. Very cozy. There is a pretty outdoor deck that offered cool breezes and a pretty view of the city. We ordered a martini and the the Made Man. Both were great and decently portioned. This is a hotel bar, so you're paying hotel prices. So I won't complain about that, that's to be expected. But yes, be prepared to pay hotel prices. While we had planned to, we ultimately decided not to have dinner there. It was a nice, relatively small sushi menu with what sounded to be good combinations, but eating sushi on a low top just seemed like it had the potential to be messy. The staff was attentive and warm. And as we left, we did notice a small dining room on the back half of the restaurant. Not sure how you get booked there versus the lounge... but all that to say, if you want dinner, and not just drinks, you may want to request it in advance. Finally, if you're there to see (gawk) at this gorgeous building, going up gets you closer, but maybe not quite there. Worth a visit, but not the glittering building top view you may have hoped for.

If you want to have drinks all evening, this may be your place but for us who do not drink we didn't enjoy it. The one waitress we did speak to didn't speak English. The food was just ok so we decided to leave and go to another restaurant.

This venue is in the beautiful Carbide and Carbon Building a landmark that is lit up on the outside every night. The decorative detail in the lobby is exquisite. The bar on the 24th floor has beautiful views and is quite intimate. Mixed drinks are the main event and wine and beer are present but limited. The are some appetizers also. This is a unique place to enjoy a cocktail or drink with friends. Don't miss it.

Vibes were great, we originally had outdoor seating, but it was raining so they called and gave us a heads up and sat us inside. Service was slow, a lot of drinks were not available either. Very small menu, with a few hand rolls and rolls to choose from. I got the Windy City roll which was very good. The sushi was very fresh! Not sure if I would come back, but happy I checked it out!

Located on the roof of the historic The Pendry, this place has some beautiful views!! The drinks and food are on the pricier end, but they will not disappoint! Even in the colder weather, the outdoor space has heaters.

One of the best drinks I've ever had - and I sampled all of my friends drinks too! Chateau Carbide is a smaller bar, but it has a beautiful interior and great views from the rooftop although the building next door is undergoing construction. I really enjoyed my experience here, but I especially loved the drinks. We ordered the Palm Rose Frose, the She Bop, the Made Man, the Clover Club Milk Punch, and the Broken English. These are some of the best drinks I've ever had. My favorite was the Made Man, but they're all great. The Broken English has a bit of a kick which is nice. We also ordered the crunchy tuna roll - delicious! They have a sushi chef that you can watch make your rolls, and they clearly know what they're doing. I haven't been the biggest fan of sushi in Chicago, but I loved this roll. Our service was also very quick and attentive. We had indoor seating, but we were also able to head outside and take picks on the rooftop. Beautiful view, and such a historical building.

Cute spot. It's been open for a few weeks. Nice view. They have a decent selection. I had the Jordan Cab, it's chilly today, and Frose. The Frose was tasty. Sat on the rooftop and it started raining so we went inside. It's a cozy spot so there's not lots of room inside. Be mindful of this when you book outside or inside.

It's a beautiful bar but not a place for dinner. They have a very small menu ment for snacking not ment for a meal. I wish I had known that before I book it for a girls night dinner for six. All the photos show sushi but there was no sushi on the menu. We had to order one of everything and six of one dish to make a meal.

Had a weekend getaway to Chicago with my husband and we stayed at the hotel, so we ventured to the roof for drinks and ended up eating sushi as well. It was a cool fall weekend so the breeze was "fresh" so it's probably really, really nice in warmer but it was still a great space. The sushi was very tasty! It was a good night.

This place was the biggest rooftop letdown. It's so tiny. Don't let the online articles fool you about how great it is. Once we got checked in for our reservation we waited over and hour in a waiting area just to never actually get outside. You basically have to be almost naked and wear nothing to get sat outside. The staff definitely prioritize looks over actual proper reservations. Three other couples got sat before us outside even though they their after us. We mentioned this and they still said it was almost another hour to wait. Waited forever too just for our cocktails as well. There is a door over by the restrooms as a back entrance to the rooftop so I just let myself out their and finally got to see it. You would've thought I was waiting to get into some private event but no lol. Rooftop was CRAP. Worst views too. Oh and best part was that I was a hotel guest here and was treated AWFUL at this place. Actual hotel stay was great aside from this.

Modern, classy, sophisticated 1920's Art Deco vibe. Love the view, ambiance, and service! You really can't beat the premium creative menu -- absolutely loved the Chateau de Sancerre Rosé!!

The view is astonishing! We got cocktails and sushi roll and all were great! I am looking forward to coming here again in our next Chicago trip!

Very expensive, which is fine, but the food wasn't anything special. I could have had the same sushi and drinks elsewhere for a fraction of the price. The rooftop view is great, but it left something to be desired.

Food was average. The vibe inside and out on the rooftop is nice. Out door seating is first come first served. Not ideal for large parties of 10 like we had in my personal opinion. 10 adults in a wraparound booth is definitely not ideal

This is in the Pendry Hotel on the 24th fl. They have a menu that's short and simple with appetizer's, sushi, and beverages. This is not ran by Venteux it's ran by the hotel. It's only open three days a week and it holds eighty guests. So it's kind of small.

Came here for drinks on a Saturday afternoon. Other than being a nice rooftop, the place was just fine with expensive food and drinks. Not really worth it especially since you can get better for cheaper in other parts of town.

Had a seasonal seafood soup specialty,loaded with generous portions of scallops, shrimp, salmon and lobster, and toasted seasoned bread. Very delicious, expertly cooked and seasoned. Server was professional, courteous, and timing of attentiveness was perfectly balanced. Highly recommended.

It's very small place, the view is not as good as from other rooftops in Chicago since it's on the 24th floor and surrounded by tall buildings, however it's a great place for date or catching up with friends. The atmosphere is very cozy, intimate like and the service is superb. BTW, we are talking about service in a post pandemic year when hospitality is struggling being short staffed and you don't get that great service for the money you pay in usually nice places, but here that's not the case. Everyone from host, management and the server has been great. And that frose was something that I'm going back for. The food menu is short, but delicious. Prices are like everywhere else in downtown.

As far as rooftops go, it's not up to par with most good Chicago rooftops. The view is limited at best; decent to the west, limited to the East, the building itself to the south, and looking directly into a building under construction to the north. For me, the best view is of the incredible detailed green terra cotta and gold accents of the building itself. The rooftop is small and there are a few umbrellas to protect from the sun on a hot day. We were lucky enough to get one, but I felt bad for some of the other folks that didn't get one. We saw a lady run to our seats as we were leaving to get to the shade. We were there during the day, and the food menu before 5:00 is only one item: cheese and charcuterie. Actually, the plate was well made and the cheeses and meats were good, but it was a bit disappointing to only have that one choice. The most appealing part was that a bottle of Whispering Angel was very reasonably priced. It made the overall experience acceptable, but will not come back during the day for sure.

This place is FANTASTIC!! The cocktails, the sushi, everything. We stayed at Pendry for a long weekend and visited Chateau Carbide 4 times. The Millenium Maki roll is to die for and loved the Kishi Bashi to drink! This will be a Chicago staple for us for sure.

Loved the atmosphere! All the interior design were very pretty. The food was even better! Best sushi in Chicago! Each dish had unique sauces very delicious. Also the plating was very beautiful great look great taste! Would highly recommend!!

We came here for a dinner and I absolutely loved everything about this place especially the sushi!! Very high quality food and presentation of each plate was perfect. They also have a small rooftop! Highly highly recommend!!

I made reservations on their website specifically for the rooftop, but when we got there they sat us inside and said we had to wait for an outdoor table. After that, they told us to sit on the outside patio table we had to leave a special note even though I had already booked it online. We waited for 30 minutes until a manager asked if we were ready to move to the patio in a small corner. We moved and our table didn't have enough chairs for our party of 6 and so part of our group couldn't sit. The whole experience was unpleasant; uncomfortable, and borderline rude. We didn't order any food and promptly left after paying for our drinks. Seems like other people are having the same problems on their website and the this company doesn't seem to care -- and it shows. Would not recommend to anyone.

Despite the website showing outdoor pictures, reservations you make ARE NOT for outdoor seating. Although we were staying at the hotel and had made reservations for the lounge nearly two weeks in advance, we were told when we arrived that only indoor seating was available. We were very disappointed and decided to leave. The lounge really should be more transparent and allow a selection of seating of indoors or outdoors when making a reservation.

The food, service, atmosphere was all amazing! The waiting staff and chefs were so welcoming. I totally recommend the chef's handrolled maki rolls, and the nigiri sushi and sashimi all melted in my mouth. For drinks, I got the Chatty Kathy without the celery bitters, but if you like celery go for it. Next time I'd want to sit out on the patio with a bottle of rose. The rooftop area outside is gorgeous- totally instagrammable. Great for dates, or for a girls' night out.

Be careful when you book to come here reservation says rooftop, but they put you inside. They say you have to "request outside" but there is no where to request while you book. While inside service is SO slow. Waited 15-20 minutes for a drink. My friend ordered a MOCKTAIL and it still took this long. Way over priced for a mediocre experience.
