"This beautiful 16C castle stands in extensive grounds surrounded by vineyards. The food aims to enhance the estate’s organic cottage garden and orchard produce. You can wash down your meal with a biodynamic wine from the Domaine de la Guicharde, which also produces the olive oil used in the kitchen. Slick, smiling service. In summer, take a seat in the courtyard adorned with a fountain, overlooking the garden." - Michelin Inspector

Chateau de Massillan (Uchaux, French Riviera / Provence) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Normally, book a 16th-century château hotel, and you know what you’re getting into — food and wine, postcard-perfect scenery, and rooms that look a bit like a museum exhibit, drafty and full of creaky antique furniture. The surprise at the Château de Massillan is that while the food, wine and scenery are just as you’d expect, the interiors are chic and contemporary, designed by someone with a 21st-century eye." - Tablet Hotels

Chateau de Massillan | Best places to stay in Provence

"Life is sweet here, in this peaceful 16th-century chateau, immersed in a 10-hectare park with majestic trees and a lake. Once owned by Henri II’s lover, Diane de Poitiers, it’s now an eco-friendly hotel. Most rooms are in two outer buildings: contemporary and calm in design, with an eye on sustainable materials and fabrics. There’s an outdoor pool and organic spa, as well as a gourmet restaurant specialising in organic produce from the château’s own gardens. It’s a lovely place for relaxing – almost too much so, so leave time for both touring the surroundings and relaxing by the pool. Bikes are available to borrow if you want to explore the surrounding Cote du Rhone vineyards. Bear in mind, it’s 20 minutes north of the town of Orange, in the north of Provence – some distance from the southern hubs or Aix and Arles. It’s a gorgeous countryside retreat for soaking up the rural Provence ambience and culture, but not your base for sightseeing. " - Dana Facaros

We stayed two nights at this beautiful chateau. The room was fine, though it was a pity it was too hot to sit on the terrace during that period. But we think it would be fantastic in the spring and autumn. Fortunately, there was plenty of space to relax in the garden and by the pool. We can't name any real drawbacks, except that it was a pity the restaurant "Le M" didn't have an à la carte menu on Saturdays and was closed on Sundays. However, this was more than compensated for by the excellent meals served by the bistro.

Outstanding setting and well taken care of! Very nice place to visit. Nonetheless, 2 points away from 5 stars. 1st: price/value rooms, are too small, show minor defects and are not clean enough (no private space for the parents, only one big room, basin faucet does not open well, chair cloth was broken and bath tub had broken marks. Very cold pool, wellness must be paid separately per hour) 2nd: breakfast, not worth the standard of the hotel, expensive without specialties being offered. Everything buffet served, whole egg powder instead of fresh eggs

Very atmospheric stay. Perfect place to slow down and unwind. The dining experience is gorgeous, adding a lot to the attractiveness of the place (meals very of supreme quality and personnel was very nice and attentive)

Hotel is in a very nice location, beautiful and quite. It is possible to charge the electric car once no other guests with regular cars park in the e-parking spot (only 2 of 6 load stations working). Rooms are nicely decorated. Unfortunately it does not correspond the prices (partially broken/defect forniture, no smart TV, no possibility of closing doors to bathroom or children bedroom. Rooms do not get dark enough, get very bright in the early morning). Pool is very cold, when asking about heating it we were informed it is always 24C degrees. Which was clearly not the temperature once outside was 30C and my daughter had blue lips after getting out of the pool. Use of wellness area is paid by hour. Breakfast offer is very poor and expensive: no fresh food (mini crepes from plastic bags, whole egg Pulver instead of fresh eggs, baguette was similar to a shoe sole).

Best: the view of the castle and location. The Worse: rooms had broken/defect things (hole in the chair, room was not that clean, no possibility of closing doors to separate spaces, no smart TV) and breakfast offer does not comply to price and hotel: very poor offer of ready and not fresh food, no service at the table, awful baguette). Pool was unfortunately so cold we could not use (it was definitely not 24 degrees heated). High price for wellness area.

Staff completely lacking in service orientation – as a guest, you constantly feel like you're either bothering them or simply being forgotten: €20 charge per day for the dog, but not even a water bowl provided in the room. We repeatedly had to go look for staff just to, for example, get a drink outside. The lounge area by the pool wasn’t set up or ready. Rooms weren’t cleaned until after 3pm. Especially disappointing was the reception experience: there was no warm welcome, no introduction to the hotel, and absolutely no offer to help with luggage. Every time we passed by, staff were either half asleep or sitting hunched over their smartphones behind the desk — creating zero sense of hospitality or attentiveness. Breakfast is €25 per person/day — but food wasn’t replenished and there was zero table service. You have to ask for absolutely everything, as there is simply no service mentality at all. Really disappointing for that price! And while this might be more common in France — charging hotel guests €20 PER HOUR to use the spa is simply outrageous. Especially given the overall lack of service and attention throughout the stay. On the positive side: the beds were extremely comfortable, and the surrounding nature and the entire property are truly beautiful. And one of the younger waitresses was exceptionally kind and attentive, which really stood out in contrast to the rest of the experience. All in all, unfortunately way too expensive for the level of service provided.

Chateau Massillan is a beautifully renovated chateau that has retained its old world charm. We stayed in a suite which was spacious and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The staff were very helpful and courteous and the food was amazing. We had dinner in their beautiful courtyard and every course was exceptional. We will definitely be back next time we visit the region.

Chateau Massillan – Farcical French Chateau theme park I never have posted a review on Google Review or Trip Advisor, unless I felt that something is direly wrong, that other trusting people need to be warned. So please be warned about Chataeu Massillan 730 Chemin de Massillan, 84100 Uchaux, Provence. Owned by Pierre and Marie Diderot who AI informs me has devoted their lives to the organic world, Chateau Massillan has a restaurant that boasts a Michelin recommendation, and is listed on Tablet, so not surprisingly, on arrival, our expectations were high. From check in, things rapidly turned sour. We helped the valet carry our own bags to a room too small for two people. This was not a problem, as upon the third request to be upgraded to a larger room (we were happy to pay and did) it was granted. We were ushered off to a larger room atop of the spa facility, smelling faintly of chlorine and essential massage oil. The rooms at Chateau Massillan are remarkable for what they do NOT have. They do NOT have a mini bar, (completely empty) which is not what is proudly advertised online. It being Easter long weekend and not a snack or fresh coffee (or Milk) to be had in sight, slight panic sets in. We are held captive in a medieval French Chateau and made to eat, breakfast, lunch or dinner from their mediocre restaurant. Despite the blurb for the restaurant saying that produce is painstaking picked from the garden, and everything is organic, butter arrives prepacked in foil cubes, packaged cruskits are served with the cheese platter and instant coffee sachet sticks are offered in the rooms. There is NO FOOD in the rooms. Clearly, we need to go forth and forage in the garden too. Or find an open supermarket on Good Friday. Upon our upgrade we went to hang suit bags and the wardrobe rail collapsed. So NO where to hang clothes. Upon further inspection of the room, we discovered NOT even a shower cap is provided in bathroom. We do get supermarket soap pumped from an unattractive plastic dispenser. So much for atmosphere. To take the edge off the check in experience, we decided to have a drink in the conservatory, but it was pungent with the smell of sewage. We chose instead the lobby for aperitif. We are out in the middle of nowhere, there is no food in the bar fridge and the restaurant was a ‘secret degustation’ no choice of al la Carte. Highly inappropriate. The wait staff were pleasant but forgetful. The chef clearly is enchanted with his PacoJet as every dish comes with a foam accompaniment. Being a keen gardener, I was seduced online by the tree lined photographs of the ancient plane trees that form an attractive avenue around the garden, but the garden is unkept, pots with weeds and sticks and assorted array of bad garden art scattered throughout the grounds. I guess it is easier to place ugly stuff in a garden than landscape, grow and look after plants. What a missed opportunity. Overall, I get the feeling that guests are held captive here at Chateau Massilan forced to eat in the restaurant as there are no shops or cafes for miles, and the owners are scheming at every opportunity has to how to increase their profits and lower their operating costs as it must be a very expensive exercise running a medieval chateau.

Yelp
Loved this castle of a hotel. The gardens are beautiful to walk around and the spa is super relaxing. We had dinner at the hotel, which was also delicious. I had a tuna bowl and burrata.

Yelp
Wow first review! Really? This place is beyond spectacular, the entire space is so perfect, clean, austere English meets french country and the building is like an Italian castle. Well trained staff. They speak English and French. The best part is the court yard that leads into an open space, covered sitting area with these old distressed black and white floors, over stuffed vintage couches and giant framed mirrors leaning on the wall. The pool is gorgeous the rooms are gorgeous, it is scary I'm in a dream romantic. I'm getting married next year, I dislike weddings, don't want one, but this place...so magical it could change anyone's mind.
