Tour Some of the Bay Area’s Best Indian Food Trucks With Baker, Author, and ‘Masterchef’ Star Hetal Vasavada | Eater SF

"Hidden around the side of a Sunnyvale strip mall, the vibrant red Chatpata India food truck with its A-frame awning is where I go for kadhi kachori — a Rajasthani specialty I’ve only seen at one other spot in the Bay Area. Kadhi is a fragrant, golden yogurt sauce made with chickpea flour and spices, and it’s combined here with kachori, deep-fried pastries stuffed with lentils and onions; the kachori dough is stiffer than samosa dough yet remains delicately flaky, so the fritters keep a crisp exterior that contrasts beautifully with the creamy spiced sauce. It’s messy and comforting, and I call it my favorite chaat." - Lauren Saria

Food was below average. One customer took around 10 minutes to add the order and other customers kept waiting. Then after ordering, I kept waiting for my order to arrive. My order arrived in 25 minutes They didn’t bother to ask for here or to-go. So unorganized and service is below average. I saw they were using milk gallons plastic containers for water. Probably for using it in food and serve water when you ask for it. Looks unhygienic and unhealthy to me. For atmosphere, I discuss find any reason to say about this. I feel like wasted my money and time at the same time.

This food truck serves delicious North Indian cuisine. I tried the combo, which included chapati, dal makhani, a sweet treat, and dahi – all of which were rich in flavor and very satisfying. Their onion aloo paratha was piping hot and incredibly tasty. The service is quick, and there are a few tables set up outside for dining. Definitely recommend giving this place a try!

I tried their Kadhi-Kachori and the Ghar Ki Thali, and both were absolutely amazing! The flavors were rich and homely — just like a comforting meal from back home. The chapati was soft, hot, and perfectly made, adding that extra touch of freshness to the whole experience. You can truly taste the fresh ingredients and the love that goes into the food. Every bite felt wholesome and satisfying. Highly recommend this place if you’re craving authentic, homemade-style Indian food. Definitely going back soon!

Ordered the Khadi Kachori and Bhel Puri — both tasted absolutely amazing! To top it off, they served masala chai for free — such a thoughtful touch. One of the best chaat spots in town for sure. Flavor, price, and service — all on point! 👌 Must try!

I recently tried the ghar ki thali from Chatpata India and overall had a pleasant experience. The presentation was homey and inviting — the dal makhni came in a generous portion, beautifully creamy and rich. The spice level was just right: mildly indulgent without being overwhelming. The rice was fluffy, well-cooked and complemented the dal nicely. The star of the meal was the malai kofta — soft, well-shaped koftas in a subtly sweet and creamy gravy; it felt luxurious and comfort-food worthy.

Cant praise the food enough! Dahi shev puri was crispy and filled with delicious chutneys. Kadi kachori is really tasty- tried for the first time. Chhole in Aalu tikki chaat was amazing. Aalu pyaaz paratha was nicely stuffed and thin topped with butter. Paneer pakoda had thin and soft paneer. Indori shaahi shikanji is unbeatable- filled with dry fruits and great taste, not too sweet. Place was clean. You can order at kiosk. Shaded seating area. Highly recommend!

Pretty bad food preparation. Would recommend avoiding it. The pani puri was made out something does not taste at all like the puri’s you get in India. The potato filling tasted like potato curry. The pani just seemed like store bought coriander chutney mixed with water. The papdi chaat looked better so we had high hopes - but turned out to be horrible as well. The papdis were all stale.
