Chavas Tacos El Original

These were the strangest burritos we ever ate, and not in a good way. Overpriced and small. The chicken texture was mushy, and so full of liquid, I am fairly certain it came out of a can. It also had very little taste. The beef burrito was skimpy on meat, didn't taste very good and was gristly. The pictures make the food look better than it was. You can see the liquid puddling on the plate. Neither of us felt very good for hours after eating and will never eat here again.

This place is awesome when want some good vegan tacos!! They give vegan’s three soy based options for proteins. I had the soy based steak tacos and let me tell you first hand that they were moist, very well seasoned, and delicious! Definitely we’ll be returning soon!

Chavas has been there for me on many a wayward night in my past always serving as a good choice when options for true late-night sustenance near Humboldt Park/Ukrainian Village dwindle down to a just a few. So it was good to see that after so much time of not stumbling in that the place still holds up. Now I can't speak for all of their offerings but what I do know is that you can get decent steak and pastor tacos, sopes, and burritos at Chavas. Their salsas are a little thin but they have a good taste so I don't mind. There are a couple of bars with high chairs for eating inside but the place gets crowded quickly so you're probably better off just getting your food to go and inhaling it in your car. There's usually plenty of parking out front on Grand Ave and but they also have a huge parking lot if needed. The staff are quick and professional and friendly enough. They have a good system in place for keeping things moving along. Just make sure you keep an ear out for your order number.

For a 24hr restaurant it definitely is a solid Mexican restaurant. Good food, fast & easy service. Restaurant is always clean and they have a parking lot in the back. Security guards on the weekends since it gets really busy.

$36 for a burrito and enchiladas. First off, I don't mind paying good money for good food but this was a huge disappointment. I've always had good experiences here but the prices are super inflated compared to just a few years ago. $5 for a taco? A plain taco? You've gotta be kidding. My burrito was mostly lettuce, the meat was super dry and barely had a full portion. Barely any rice, almost no beans, and what looked like a spoonful of crema. $14 for a burrito that was basically a salad wrapped in a tortilla. I feel ripped off. I've never wanted to eat more after finishing a whole burrito, so it's crazy to me that a whole burrito still left me hungry. I don't care if they are 24/7 and are one of the only late night options, if you're gonna charge that much for food, it needs to be worth it and it needs to be filling. Never coming here again.

I simply loved this place. The service was fast and friendly. The food was delicious. We ordered a steak burrito and the vegetarian tacos. The food didn’t disappoint. It was delicious. It wasn’t too salty as it is usually the case in restaurants. The salsas were a little too watery, so please Chavas make the salsa thicker. Other than that, we had an excellent experience. So I will be coming back for sure.

Chata’s totally worked it out tonight. Stopped here after an event tonight around 2 AM, they were slightly busy, I ordered a ground beef, tostada and rice and Horchata. Food came out in less than five minutes, devoured it in my car for heading home, so glad I did. Everything was fresh and delicious, definitely hitting up the spot another time very soon. Big thanks!

Just because you're open 24 hours, doesn't mean you have customers 24 hours, but you definitely can't serve old meat and beans just because it's been sitting there. You should start making your meat fresh, when the order comes in people don't mind waiting for fresh food, but people will mind getting old food for their money, whether they're waiting or not. Used to be one of my favorite spots but I'm not going back 😞

Great late night delivery spot. Ordered 3 types of tacos all with onion and cilantro: steak, beef and chicken. Chicken was meh, texture questionable, needed seasoning...but solid portions. Also ordered a large side of beans (shockingly large) and rice. Both good, beans a little runny but solidified in the fridge for 3 more servings. Would order again if looking for some late late night tacos! Ordered via Uber Eats so haven't been to the actual storefront.

They have delivery until 10:00 in Lincoln Park in Chicago 10:00 p.m. good burritos although it's hard to mess up a burrito if you got sour cream in my opinion Sincerely honestly and peacefully lovingly and prayerfully Mary Donnelly d o n l e y

My favorite to-go Mexican place. The portions are large, food is tasty, and consistent. I have been coming here for 10+ years and have never had a issue. The staff is polite and the food is FAST. It's really busy and good for a quick super casual lunch and even better for take out.

Check the menu prices before you go. Not sure why they charge twice as much for the same food you can get at any taco joint in town. Thought a $17.00 torta dinner combo would at least have something different but nope. Didn't help that the meat was burnt and the parking is non existent.

They mess up my order every time and Nancy the manager is always rude and not helpful when it comes to correcting the problem she told me I wouldn't eat here if we keep messing up your order I've been coming to this restaurant over 10 years and it was fine until the new manager.

I got the chorizo burrito with no frijoles. It was okay. It wasn't amazing and it wasn't bad either. It was just a burrito. This place is kind of pricey compared to other places I've been. If you pay with card, don't forget to bring your ID--you're going to need it. The service was quick. They're attentive. It's all about business in there. It's a order your thing and go kind of type situation.

I just recently discovered this late night taco gem, and let me tell you, ITS GOLD, JERRY. Gold. Not going to ultimately change your life, but it's open late and it's everything you want it to be when you need it to be. I had carne tacos and el pastor and they were all kind of excellent. And there was security in the restaurant so you feel safe going at night and waiting for your order. Score big on late night tasty treats with Chavas Tacos El Original!

Well, the tacos were really good my only talking point was she did not give me exactly what I wanted. Maybe it was because I was an African American. But I like cilantro and onions on my taco which is more the traditional Spanish way of eating them. I had the American way of tacos which is lettuce, tomato, and cheese. My wife is Spanish and when I gave her tacos to her she was not happy, it was because of her review that I even stopped here, that it was 4 am even more convenient. It was very busy so maybe the cashier did not hear me when she asked me did I want one or the other. The next time I will make sure she gets it right. The place was extremely busy for that time of the morning packed to the walls folks were rude and talking loudly not everyone was rude just a few folks. But other than me not getting the right toppings on my order it was really good. The ambiance was ok but it was 4 am so I guess it was the after-club rush-hour crowd.

This visit was on 7/13/2020. It was late and we were looking for a fast bite to eat.  The first restaurant that we went to was closed and the second restaurant that we went to was also closed. Then we remembered that el original used to be open 24 hours so we decided to give them a try. Yes! They were open! We ordered carne asada and chile relleno dinner plates.  Both come with rice,  beans, salad and tortillas. The chile relleno dinner is not on the menu,  but,  they will make it for you if you ask. We were finally able to satisfy our hunger. They opened a patio in the back but at the time of our visit, they did not have a bathroom available so that really was no point in dining n. We got our meals for takeout

Still getting the fucking quesadilla a year later ademas de no tener carne no le hecharon la lechuga ni tomate. No mamen se pasan de verga

This chava pack was horrible . the food was burnt came with a bloody crown. came with a side of a fake LK . the waiters did not slide for him what so ever. The manager posted about him on insta saying "PICK UP YO DEAD MANZ" . how is this restaurant half latin king and lkk. anyways. has anyone had a similiar problem wit they pack? anyways SLIDE FOR YO DEAD MANZ

My office had an old flyer and menu from when we ordered from them several years ago, and when we decided we wanted a Mexican buffet this past week for our team of 35 people, we decided to try them again. I ordered the fajitas package which came with chicken and steak fajitas which were cooked with sautéed vegetables, Mexican rice, refried beans, guacamole, tortillas, salsa and chips. They delivered right on time, at a very reasonable cost, and everything was excellent!! Really good guacamole and some of the best salsa I've ever had. It is just a bit spicy, but very flavorful and went well over the fajitas as well as with their chips. Everyone was pleased with the meal and we would definitely order from them again!

This time we ordered burritos instead of tacos, it just wasn't flavorful to me and the burrito wasn't put on the grill to harden the shell to keep it from opening. We come here every now and again simply because they're open when no one else is. My rating is really for them being open, pretty fast and the person who took my order over the phone was polite.

Quality fresh ingredients, lovely selection on the menu - burritos and tacos are of great value and delish. Staff is great. The only reason it is four stars is because it was a bit cramped but that can't be helped since they can't make the building bigger.

Heartbroken that chavas doesn't deliver to my home which is four minutes away south of it. Terrible way to find out about the service areas they choose to work with while I'm hangry at home. I'm not going there to pick up for thanks to COVID-19. I will be back soon.

service is AWFUL young girl working the front with an attitude. order got mixed up and won't accept the fact that we didn't get most of things we ordered. we spent NEARLY $300 for food just for our order to not be correct. we had ordered before 5 other people and their orders all came first. so it was no surprise when stuff was missing from our order. overpriced food for small portions size of a taco will get you a size of a quesadilla. burritos are NOTHING like the picture. overall bad restaurant would not recommend at all.

First time trying, cant beat 24hours, food takes about 10min or less for 2 dinner plates. Food was good.

This bustling taco place was a great reminder of home (Texas). Simple street taco type food was a little expensive from what we're used to but I think that's just Chicago in general. The lengua was tender and moist and cooked just right. Hubs had the chiliquiles and enjoyed his too.

It was late at night and I was looking for a spot to buy something to eat, and a friend told me that this Mexican restaurant was open 24 hours. It was also near to the area where I was staying, so I then went here. It is just so nice that the restaurant is open 24 hours a day, and it really is. There were still customers other than me by the time I went there. There is also no line at the counter. The restaurant is also just a cute spot, but they have a very wide menu with a lot of different good Mexican food options. The staff behind the counter were not friendly, and I can just say that they were nice. I ordered a taco dinner for takeout. I was planning to eat at the place but decided not to for some reason. The service was pretty quick. The taco dinner consists of three tacos, and I specifically chose pastor for the meat, some rice, and beans. The tacos tasted good, and I just wished they put more meat on them. It is good, but it could definitely taste better if it had more meat on it, because the meat on the tacos was only a small portion. The rice and beans taste good as well. The service was good. The food could be better. The price of the taco dinner, considering the taste and the flavor of the food, is, I must say, expensive.

What a great little 24 hr spot. This no frills, affordable for the city, Mexican joint was quite tasty. I'm not saying it's the best Mexican spot in the city, but if you're looking for a late night, after the bars, always open spot that is reasonably priced close to downtown, this is your spot. Service was quick and the restaurant was quite clean. I went when I was sober and thought it was pretty good. I can't imagine how amazing it would taste if I was tipsy lol Can't wait to try them again for breakfast as well!

I really wanted tacos after my shift and found this place on yelp. Bonus points for being open 24/7 because....who wouldn't want tacos at 7:30am? Cute indoor area with limited seating. I ordered a carne asada taco dinner to go. The price was decent. I enjoyed the tacos, but took off a star because I wish it was seasoned a little bit more. I like my steak really flavorful and it was lacking a bit. Other than that, great Mexican food!

cold, blan food. outrageous prices. everything is an extra charge. including the meat. They give so little that you're actually pissed they charged you for it.

This is my weekly spot for tacos. Always good. I'm big on not having any fatty chunks in my tacos. I have never had a taco with fat here. Just quality meat. Always flavorful, rice and beans always delicious. Torta always good. I had the sopas the other day, they were delicious.. you can't go wrong, honestly.

They charged me $13 for the amount of vegetables you see in the picture. The Food tastes good but I was definitely overcharged.

I keep wanting to believe the veggie/vegan soy options are going to be seasoned this time. It never is. Always bland. It takes seconds to add salt.

Bad service! Delivery service is the worst. When they mess up, they'll lie. Telling you they tried to call, or you weren't at the address. So if you're into that kind of thing then this is your place.

El Original has been the new name for Chavas for some time now but it is the same Taquiria off Grand and Western. It's 24/7 for those w a penchant for late night drink, those w insomnia or just happen to work an off shift. It's a standard Chicago taco stand and will deliver on all your favorites, the last time for me included a steak taco and chorizo tostada. Their Roja is of the smoky chipotle variety and the verde a little lacking in punch/flavor, not bad but worth noting.

This place certainly surpassed my expectations. Doesn't seem all that especially in the area it is in. I decided to try after a recommendation. I ordered the Chava's Special which was a huge plate for $9. It consisted of large portions of rice & beans, thin steak, red chilaquiles, two over easy eggs, cebollitas & nopales(grilled green onion & cactus). The meal was delicious and properly priced, actually had it twice the same week. Washed it all down with a Agua de Jamaica(hibiscus drink). Open 24/7 & accepts credit!!

This is my go to go spot!! Fresh tacos. They're opened 24 hours a day. Say bye bye to Pepe's. When I'm hanging out with friends and late night cravings; I know that i come here. They have varied of options for meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans. The topping are fresh.

Chiles Rellenos now rolling year round and they're better than ever! They also offer TONS of meat substitutes!

I had to repeat my order to the young lady taking my order more than 5 times. I ordered the Burrito Desayuno and it clearly says choice of Mexican sausage, ham, OR bacon. I said Mexican sausage and she just charges me for all three. And apparently it is $1 more for each of the meat. So I was charged $4 more than what I was suppose to.

If you want a dry taco, look no further than el original. Also if you like to order meals and have a completely different order waiting for you in your bag than this is your spot. I had a taco craving & decided to check them out per a friends request & since I had them bookmarked I thought why not. I like to check out new places. Well this place wasn't that great. The customer service was not there. No smiling faces, no small talk, even after my friend mentioned I was a newbie there. Lost 2 stars there. I got 3 steak tacos, w/lettuce, onion, tomato, & cilantro. The 3 stars is for fresh ingredients & ok grade b taco meat. I wouldn't make the 20min ride from home to try them out. They're 24hrs so I guess that's a good thing too for a late/drunken night.

Food. 5 stars. And if you don't have a mask. Which no drunk does at 4 am, they will serve you. I'm not gonna die checking these idiots. I just want my food and safety. The food is great. This virus will never be stopped. I blame you dummies. And at this point I hope you get it because I'm wearing a mask to save you dummies.

Have never came here sober, and prb never will. Chavas is straight up drunk late night food. When most places are closed Chavas is open, which is a plus. In the end I really don't see any difference from this place and Taco Burrito King. Overall not great but if you come here at 3am it will do the job!

If I could give -1 star I would! I called this place because I've been ordering for years and never had an issue. I called tot to place the order and was put on hold for five minutes after all I gave was my name, number and address for some rude person to come on the line to say they did not deliver to my area!!! How when I have orders from this place for years with no problem! I stated that and was told we contract drivers and they said they will not deliver! I will never spend my money here again because I think it's because I'm African American and they are racist! I can not believe all the money I spent in this place for this to happen....

My family was a regular customer of this restaurant before because of the fact that their food is authentic and delicious but not until now. There are various other Mexican restaurants that seem to line up to what the restaurant has. I visited the restaurant recently after like a few months of not visiting it, it is still the same clean and warm atmosphere and vibe. The staff are still friendly and accommodating but when it comes to the food, it still tastes good but not as good as it was before based on my experience. I ordered quite a lot of different foods and there are a few foods that have a noticeable change on it and not only by its looks but also with the taste. The tacos I ordered unexpectedly did not have generous meat in it but it was fine for me because it still tastes good and it is fresh as well as the other foods I ordered. I would still go in here sometimes and definitely not always because I would still miss their food considering it used to be one of our favorite Mexican places and this is still definitely one of the good Mexican restaurants I know in this location.

I ordered a soy chorizo burrito and it's a mix of soy meat and real meat.... I'll definitely get sick after I had a few bites:(

IF YOUR HUNGRY DON'T EAT HERE!!! I ordered a torta and tostada they hardly gave any meat it was sloppy and flavor less. I've given this place three chances to get it right before i gave them a review, never will I ever order from this place again.

I think this is the second location? It's quite small inside. Probably about 10 seats total. The food itself is big and it's tasty. But nothing impressive. It's standard Mexican food. There's free parking outside. Also, they have a sink for the public. I just think it's a bit odd.

They spent one minute making my burrito and it tasted like it. It was the taste of indifference. A forgettable $8 burrito. They charge extra for salsa.

This is by far the best 24 hour Mexican Restaurant. The meat is on point quality not fatty, seasoned not bland, good chooseable toppings. The guacomole and chips very good appetizer can taste all the seasoning and other ingredients. The chips also good not generic store bought. I purchased the Steak Burrito along with 3 other friends ordering the same. All agreed A-Mazing, I also ordered Guacomole and Chips very good quality.

Irritated, we buy from them weekly for our clients as well. They are incompetent and selfish. Asking for id each time with our credit cards in person. Bland Food and Blasé. they were so rude the last tie we placed an order for catering, because they were busy. The service is fas like they want us out of there but its 24/7 sad because they are so close to us and we have tried.
