Chawla's Cafe - Review - Bellevue - Seattle - The Infatuation

"The Eastside is usually our first stop for anything cooked in a tandoor—so it's no surprise that another Indian restaurant has opened in Bellevue. Chawla’s Cafe is a casual counter that serves dishes like pakoras, channa masala, and Nutella naan. They’re also open until 10pm, which in quiet Bellevue is basically the equivalent to 2am. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Kayla Sager-Riley

For a first-time/new reviewer, I would say you can try it out once. Would not go again. Food - We ordered samosa and veg hakka/schezwan noodles. The samosas cam with two standard chutneys. Chutneys weren’t that good. Could be much better. Samosas are too small and were a little undercooked. Rate 2.5/5. Veg hakka/schezwan noodles to start with had zero to no schezwan sauce. The quality was decent but the quantity was too less for the price. They were little bit more on the oiler side. Rate: 3.5/5 Service: Was decent, couldn’t say much about it. Atmosphere: Was like typical Indian restaurant you find in the US, where not a lot of focus is made on the decor. Overall a decent experience. Can try out once. But they definitely need to increase food quantity and give better quality food to attract more people.

Chawla's Cafe has quickly become our favorite Indian spot in Bellevue! Let's start with the positives: the food is absolutely phenomenal. The Butter Chicken was perfection – creamy, flavorful sauce with tender, white chunks of chicken and a perfect spice level. The Chicken Tikka Masala was also very good, with a slightly chunkier sauce, but the vegetables were cooked to a delightful softness. Both dishes were bursting with amazing flavor. The Garlic Cilantro Naan was a highlight! Crispy, buttery, and the ideal accompaniment to the rich sauces. The basmati rice was also excellent – soft, white, and perfectly cooked. And to top it all off, free self-serve chai tea! What a treat. The prices are incredibly reasonable for Bellevue. Our dinner for two, including tip, was only $55, which is fantastic value for the quality and quantity of food. The only reason I'm giving Chawla's 4 stars instead of 5 is the atmosphere. The building itself feels a bit dated, clearly retaining some of its previous fast-food restaurant vibe. It's clean (they have an Excellent food safety rating), but it lacks the ambiance of a more modern dining experience. If you're looking for incredibly delicious Indian food at a great price, and you're willing to overlook a simple setting, Chawla's Cafe is a must-try. We'll definitely be back!

Highly disappointed with pani poori. Pani is very sweet and inside poori there is nothing much just small cube of boil potato. Dahi batata sev puri is also is very sweet . Felt like eating curd with sugar in puri. Dahi papri chaat is little better than other

New kid on the block. And let me tell you an amazing one. Their curries are some of the best in the Seattle area. The Paneer dil bhar and Malai kofta were delicious. Their paneer is so soft which is a rarity at most places. Also worth trying is their amritsari kulcha and chana. Their naans are perfectly crisped. You can avoid their aloo paratha though. The prices are bit on the higher side but but they have complimentary masala tea and that compensates for everything. The service is quick. The ambience is relevant as it is a quick eat n go place. A must try for everyone who is a fan of Indian food. The only downside is they are a 100% vegetarian restaurant and I hope they start serving meat somewhere in the future

Friday evening visit. Food: Ordered a chicken biryani. It's some old white rice mixed with chicken curry. Maybe the vegetarian food and the curries are better, but whatever I ate was not good. Atmosphere: Pretty good. Well maintained. Service: Order at the counter, they bring you the food. Even if you are eating in the restaurant, you get food served in the to-go containers. Price: A little expensive, but it's the normal price in Bellevue downtown. Looks like they do have some lunch specials during office days.

Lots of options, all vegetarian. The tikka masala flavor was great! I was surprised by the garlic cilantro naan. The texture and how light and crispy the bread was and not too oily was a pleasant surprise. The rice was also a light long grained white rice 🍚 Newer restaurant so slower to serve food, at least for dinner

I visited Chawla’s Cafe and tried a few dishes. The chole bhature stood out with fluffy and soft bhature, but the chole itself was quite average, similar to what you’d make at home. The achari soya chaap was disappointing—lacking the achari flavor and not spicy or flavorful as recommended by the lady at the counter. The garlic butter naan was okay but became hard to chew once it cooled down. The smoky paneer tikka masala also missed the mark, as it didn’t have the smoky flavor the name promised, though it came with rice. Additionally, the service was slow, which added to the overall experience. The One and only thing which stood out was the green chutney they serve with chaap it was super flavourful.

Food was freshly made and tasted nice. Laccha parantha was too dry and Dal was overcooked.

Yelp
Such good food. Small establishment and everything is cooked to order. We ate it so fast there are no pictures. We're bookmarking this place for when we're in the area.

Yelp
Ambience. B Service. A Food. A Price. A Found downtown Bellevue off main road. Lots of private parking space. Use to be the Racha Noodles / Jack in Box bldg. NOW it's Indian Cuisine. The lighting is very fluorescent bright and have Indian television and music playing. Must be very authentic as majority clientele and staff and cooks are Indian descent. Order at counter and grab a seat. They'll bring out to you. Cashier was friendly and helpful understanding menu. Make sure to double check the order before paying. You might get more than what you order. Everything is vegetarian. NO meat or TOFU. Ordered the Pannear Chili. Cooked to order. Very flavorful and nice spicy sauce with paneer and veggies and basmati rice beautifully fluffy. Also, has serve your complimentary hot Chai and water. Served in recyclable or take out containers. And plastic ware for utensils. I would eat here again. Delicious. I just wish they had more pictures of FOOD! I'm a FaN!

Yelp
The disappointing thing is they have limited items available after 12. So pretty much it's just naans and rice and curries for dinner. If they want to consider maintaining business, they should have more options such as the parathas available in the evenings. Nothing impressive with the curries either. Will consider some changes if they want to sustain and maintain business.

Yelp
We walked into this place as this place is new.The restaurant has its own parking in an area where parking is scarce. We ordered Paneer Hariyali Tikka and Dahi Batata Sev Puri. The Dahi Batata Sev Puri came first and was flavorful and had a good amount of filling in the puri. The Paneer Hariyali tikka was crispy in the outer layer and soft in the inside. They also had hot complimentary chai. The staff were extremely kind and friendly. Definitely want to swing by again and try more.

Yelp
Newly opened restaurant. The food was very authentic Punjabi or North Indian food. They also serve Indo-Chinese and South Indian but we only ordered North Indian food. Will try the other cuisines next time. Service was great. Friendly and attentive staff.
