I had an absolutely fantastic experience at Checkers , This German restaurant is a true gem, delivering an authentic and delightful dining experience. The food was nothing short of amazing—every dish burst with rich, traditional flavors, from the perfectly crispy schnitzel to the burgers , The ambience was equally impressive, with a warm, cozy atmosphere that transported me straight to a charming Bavarian tavern. A special shoutout to our server, Rodrigo, who went above and beyond to make our evening unforgettable. His attentiveness, friendly demeanor, and spot-on recommendations elevated the entire experience. Congrats to Rodrigo and the entire team for creating such a wonderful dining destination! I can’t wait to return!

First time visiting and already one of my favorites! Rodrigo was our server and added so much to the experience we’re definitely requesting him again next time. He was knowledgeable of the menu, gave great suggestions and had such a friendly persona we felt incredibly welcomed. I’ve ordered the catch of the day which was a massive grouper fillet with choice of two sides, I followed our server suggestion and had the hot potato salad with bacon! My husband ordered the Stroganoff with fries which honestly was the best I’ve tried in ages and will have it myself on our next visit. Our friend had the Bavarian Platter and man that was huge! We were all very happy to have found this place! Every single item in the menu is fairly priced and our bill was just under 100 so we were happy to be generous towards our server since there isn’t many places to visit with such genuine welcoming service, rich flavors, generous portion and low price. 10/10

Aurhentic food with a lot of great decor and history! Friendly, attentive serves. Great beer selection. I recommend the fried munster cheese with vinegarette, bratwurst and potatoe pancakes.

Family celebrations to me always mean a good meal out somewhere. To celebrate our wedding anniversary this year the whole family met at Checkers Old Munchen in Pompano. It was my first time in, and they certainly impressed our entire party! Since we are a group of 8, I had made a reservation online ahead of time, and a nice large table by the front window was waiting when we arrived. Instantly you can feel the "comfort of home" vibe in this place. Our server, Rodrigo was great and offered lots of personal choice experiences to help us navigate the menu. We started with a "Kombinationen Platte" appetizer with a potato pancake, sauerkraut, bratwurst, and knackwurst. Before we could even order that, basket of freshly baked pretzel bites was delivered to the table along with a nice side of whole-grain mustard. That could be the best "bread basket" I've ever had! Of course we had to order a few drinks while we waited for the rest of the family (we arrived early) and one entire side of the menu is beers, wines, and specialty drinks. Once the whole family assembled we needed a few extra minutes to narrow down our entree choices -- there were more entrees that we wanted to order than we had adult mouths to feed! In the end, we tried the Chicken Paprika, Pork Stroganoff, Stuffed Schnitzel, Chicken Schnitzel (x2), Kids Brats & Knocks, and a Sauerbraten. The food came up quickly, and the portions were HUGE... we all had leftovers to bring home, but that didn't stop us from sampling the dessert menu! Homemade Apple Strudel, German Chocolate Cake, and Strawberry Sponge Cake. The only problem with the desserts was that it now meant we had to ask for MORE boxes to take the rest of the desserts home, too! This was the largest savings I've ever had with my Kind Diners Card - $59! (In hindsight, that should have been limited to $50, but I didn't notice it in time) Special thanks to the whole crew at Checkers Old Munchen - they did a fantastic job! I know we will be back many times in the future.

Google
Stationed in Germany and being married to a German wife for 39 years has allowed me to eat many different German dishes from Bavaria and also the Northern region of Germany. I ordered the veal schnitzel, which was tender and tasted great. The two side orders that I chose were mashed potatoes and red cabbage. Plenty of brown gravy was served on a gravy server! The red cabbage had a little too much vinegar, making it a little sour but edible. Before the meal, pieces of soft pretzels in a bowl were served with a small dish of stone ground mustard, which was a nice touch. Prices are on the high side for the simple guesthouse atmosphere .

Had the absolute best German meal I've had outside of Germany ( and I lived there several years) Cozy and 100% German decor, very friendly and attentive service. Perfect schnitzel, perfect wurst and the black forest cake was straight out of Oma's kitchen. Absolutely recommend!!

Me and my friends went to try this place for the first time at lunch time. We were expecting something really good as they have very good reviews. Unfortunately food was cold. Service though was great!! The German lady who served us was friendly and professional.

Google
We have not visited since pre pandemic, but I feel the experience, service & food quantity is now better than ever. This truly is the real deal in German cuisine. All food was served hot and well prepared. To be honest the portions are enough to share. Great beer selection as well. We are going to return more frequently.

Yelp
First time ever going to an authentic German restaurant and this place did not disappoint. The decor and feel of this place when you walk in felt like you're in a pub somewhere in Germany, it was very cool. The staff was so nice and attentive and took time to answer any questions we had about the menu, decor and really anything we wanted to talk or ask about. The food was excellent. Being that this was my first time eating authentic German cuisine I had no idea what to expect. Looking at the menu i knew I've heard of a couple things before, but everything else for the most part was all new to me. The food was really good, eveything came at looking and tasting delicious. Everything was very flavorful and tasted so fresh, like they were just cooked by your grandma in here kitchen. You could really feel the love that went into preparing everything. This was an all around great experience. Definitely a spot to check out if you're in the area. .

Yelp
Some sort of Spanish fiesta occurring in the rear of the facility, could be something to check out. Service was ready, willing, and able, but I'm pretty sure there all clones or androids of the same make and model. (Could be worth checking it out) Pearl Jam is from Seattle; not from Germany, but I'll let it slide. Some wise guy was situated next to me: total wise guy energy. Ordered boiled potatoes and green bean medley as my sides but the waiter misheard me and brought TWO orders of green bean medley. (I heard him when he was confirmed the order before leaving but I wasn't in the mood to imitate an informal squabble over some 'taters. Chop salad was pretty good actually. Mushrooms that came with my dish was mid. My chicken was tender, but damn do the Germans like onions: it was straight swimming in the layers. Lots of Stein mugs adorned the bulkhead which gave an authentic German feel. Final Thoughts: I now understand why everyone was so motivated to get out of Germany in the 1940s.

Yelp
My 3rd time here. Brought my mom for breakfast. Wow! She was impressed with the large portions & had to take home. Our server brought us some fresh marble bread- delicious! Our raisin bread yummy. I had the kielbasa with eggs. So good!!! Mom had eggs & grits with sausage patty's. She enjoyed the strawberry preserves as well! My hubby decided to have lunch - had pork schnitzel with red cabbage. He ate everything! We will come back for lunch! The restaurant looks very old world, like you're really in Germany! When I brought my ladies group here- we all had a great time!!! They have live music & would love to hang out for that! Shout out to Matt for making our brunch event fabulous! Will definitely plan to come back for an encore!

Yelp
Yet another scrumptious meal at Checkers tonight. We have been coming here for the last 15 years......several times per year. My family is German, so I know authentic Bavarian food. Checkers Old Muenchen's food tastes just like Germany. I've tried many entrees, but the Jägerschnitzel is my favorite. My husband and son love the veal and pork schnitzels. The spätzle is phenomenal, and a must try is the Apple Strudel. We'll be back.....soon!

Yelp
When we arrived I second guessed my decision. The restaurant was packed, but everyone had a walker with them. It was an older crowd for sure. We had to sit at the bar because there weren't any tables left! Grey took care of us at the bar and he was fantastic. He was personable, efficient, and had a great personality. The atmosphere was also five stars. It was neat seeing all the steins along the wall. It wasn't too loud, or too quiet, it was just right. The food was good, but a bit on the bland side, and took a very long time to come out. We were there almost two hours, but it was super busy when we arrived. I'd go back, Grey was worth it. I'm hoping the food was a bit on the bland side because it was super busy. Chicharrones were the best thing. Full of flavor, and a huge portion. Pork stroganoff was great as well, potato pancake was a great side item. Chicken schnitzel with spätzle was meh. Chicken was dry, spätzle was super bland and luke warm. Gravy was also tasteless

Yelp
What a great authentic German spot. Live music really sets the vibe. Super friendly staff. Get the chicaronnes! You won't regret it.

Yelp
Gem of a find in Pompano. Good food and traditional German ambiance but the real reason to try this establishment is for the EXCEPTIONAL service by DENISE! Honestly my family of six and I were going to walk by and eat elsewhere but after looking inside and speaking with Denise we had to stop and try the food. Denise is the type of person any business would be fortunate to have working for them. Prompt, kind, intelligent, personable and all around 5 star experience. Hope the owner reads this because Denise is a keeper and should be manager if she isn't already lol. We will be back and if you are looking for a nice place with indoor and outdoor seating stop by! There is even music and nice bar with big TV's to catch the game. Thanks for making our Saturday visit worthwhile

Yelp
Food was delicious! Tender pork, spatzel and red cabbage. The veal was also cooked to perfection. I ate it and have leftovers forgot to take a picture . Now time for dessert apple strudel

Yelp
My wife and I drove up from Miami to thoroughly enjoy this tremendous German restaurant. Such a fantastic meal. Ambiance is old school with people's personal beer steins lining the walls. Perfect service, friendly, helpful and personable (thank you Gabby!). Everything we ordered was superb. Sausage platter with sublime potato pancakes. The wiener schnitzel was epic and delicious. And gigantic! The sauerbraten was immensely satisfying. Sides included sauerkraut, red cabbage, potato dumplings. Everything was delicious. Can't forget the most delicious German chocolate cake I've ever had. Treat yourself to this wonderful restaurant. It was worth the drive. Probably going to make this a monthly treat!!

Yelp
I love everything about Germany; I also lived there many years ago and still crave their food, even though... I'm Italian (so please, don't repeat this to my Italian family and friends!). I was therefore very happy to find out about this restaurant and to hear good reviews about it; and of course, I went to try it as soon as we could. The restaurant was opened back in 1982 by a German chef, and the tradition is now continued by his nephew. We came here on a Saturday for lunch: it was barely noon and the place was already packed (they open at 7am). Their parking lot is very small and was already full when we arrived, but we did manage to find a spot across the street. You first enter their long and narrow bar, and from there a door takes you to the dining room. In the dining room you feel as if you were in a German restaurant, and their walls are literally covered by German Beer Mugs and Boots - all of them with plaques with names on it. These plaques are part of the "German Beer Tour" that the restaurant began in 2012, which sounds like fun! What you have to do to participate is first to request a "German Beer Tour Passport", which list all of the 30 draft (imported) beers offered by the restaurant. This passport will keep track of your drinks: once you have drunk all the 30 German beers, you become a "Deutsche Bier Meister" (German Beer Master) and receive your own plaque on the wall, a German beer tour T-Shirt, and "Das Boot" to take home. Apparently you can complete your "journey" at your own pace, so even if we don't live very close to this location, I may request my passport next time we go! I love "Leberwurst", so once I saw it on the menu, I ordered it without even checking the other dishes. Even if I ordered it in the size of "appetizer", the portion was really big. It was so good that I ate it all nevertheless. I also tasted some of the food that our friends ordered (pancakes and various sausages), and liked them all! The service is very good and fast, and the prices are very decent, above all considering the big portions. They also have HH from Sunday to Friday, offering 1/2 off all their imported draft beers. I look forward to coming back!

Yelp
Max and I had date night with another couple. It was their choice. My husband is German, so he was right at home. We got there first and decided to wait for our friends in the bar. It didn't take long for us to get a beer and an Old Fashioned. After the drinks arrived to our table, our waitress said that she was looking high and low for the proper cherry. She finally found them and added a beautiful dark red one to my drink. Um, very strong. I can usually throw back 3 of these, but tonight half of it was left. The server delivers cut up pretzels with stone mustard to start. The food portions are well worth what you came for. If you want a sample of everything, get the platter. We've lived here for over 30 years and never made our way up to this restaurant. Thanks to our friends for the suggestion!

Yelp
Have an amazing evening together with my wife and some friends. Our second outing together, we decided on German cuisine, and ended up coming here. I had the schnitzel which was amazing: it tasted really authentic. As a lover of German cuisine, it really hit the spot! My wife had the Bavarian Platter so she could have, in her own words, "A little bit of this and a little bit of that." She loved it, her favorite being the sausages. We ended the night with the apple streusel. I decided not to partake in the dessert, but it did look very good; probably very sweet for those who have a sweet tooth. When it came to the table, it gave off that baked apple aroma which was rather nice. Service was exceptional, the place got very busy very fast, especially for a Monday evening. I would recommend making reservations if you had been planning on stopping by. We'll definitely have to come back to try more.

Yelp
This is our go to german place. For us the service and food is always great. Reminds us of our trip to Munich. So perfect to sit outside in the winter and hear music. They have a Make sure you have reservations on the weekend.

Yelp
We hadn't been back to Checkers Old Munchen in a while, and decided to stop by there for dinner about 2 weeks ago. We started with the Sausage Platter, and then the Schweinebraten, Gulash and the kids Chicken Schnitzel Fingers. They were delicious and it was a lot of food. Our server Brandon was also really great and attentive. We will be back.

Yelp
Surprisingly excellent. Not a fancy place, but very tastefully decorated and fun. Went here based in a recommendation from a friend. I was apprehensive at first since it's in a strip mall. The place was full. Had the Pork Schnitzel, Kartoffelpuffer Potato Pancakes, sausage sampler, Bavarian platter, Cucumber Salad and Stuffed Schnitzel, and beer - all were fantastic, fresh, and delish. I'd say the only thing we were underwhelmed with a bit was dessert. Maybe since I was just in Austria, but the Apple Strudel and chocolate cake were just ok. Make those better and I'd go to five stars. Will definitely return.

Yelp
Wonderful german food! This is the real deal, not like the fake pseudo-german place in Boca. Delicious schnitzel, soups, desserts, and real beer.

Elisa D.

Yelp
Excellent food eat here frequently. Best chopped salad and potato pancakes. Never had a bad meal here highly recommend.

Yelp
Another wonderful experience. Highly recommend this establishment if you want authentic German foods

Yelp
This was my favorite restaurant while we were down in Pompano. They has plenty of beers and delicious authentic German entrees to choose from. Portions are generous, but we were hungry, so we cleaned out plates easily. The pretzels and mustard that come out as a complimentary app were still cooking when we were finishing our meal at 5:30, but our waitress was kind enough to give us a box to go. Food comes out quick and hot. Each entree we got was very good, but I really enjoyed the cabbage rolls. The red cabbage and cucumber salad as sides were absolutely delicious. Looking forward to visiting again and coming back.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of this place, been coming for years, so when my lovely girlfriend said she'd never been to a Checkers. I hatched my devious plan. Told her we were going to Checkers for dinner and technically they was true... We started with bier of course, because why wouldn't you? I had a liter of Schofferhoffer and the lovely Spensyr went with something dark & sweet. Then, the food started coming... * First up, a complimentary basket of fresh pretzels and mustard. * Next, the Kombination Platte appetizer. Knockwurst, bratwurst, sauerkraut, and 2 light, fluffy, crispy potato pancakes. * Jaegerschnitzel was my girl's choice. Big pork cutlets, pounded out but definitely not flat. Served with an onion brown gravy, it was good, but not overtly flavorful. She accompanied hers with cucumber salad and spaetzle. * I had the Schweinhaxen. A golden brown pork shank. Crisp and crackling skin, with succulent fatty meat that melted in my mouth. My sides were sweet & sour red cabbage and warm German potato salad. Mustardy and vinegary perfection. Way too full for dessert, we wobbled out to continue our date night.

Yelp
It is clear to me and my wife why Checkers Old Munchen has been in business as long as they have. The service is excellent, they are very attentive and polite. The food is delicious and they have gluten free options for those with Celiac disease. The atmosphere and decor is clean and comfortable with a classic feel. We're looking forward to visiting more often and trying more menu items.

Yelp
This is the first time coming to checkers for German food. I had heard from friends that this was a great place to come. It's clear that the tradition was written on the walls of steins. Lots of customers come here for the beers of the world tour. This is why they have the steins on the wall. The food is notorious for being delicious and without a doubt it didn't disappoint. I had this old standard beef pot roast. The most incredible part was the cabbage that they prepare for 2 days. It was exceptional. We decided to try the dessert trio sampler. My favorite was the Apple streusel. I'll definitely be coming back.

Yelp
Inflation is taking the luster off Checkers Old Muchen for us, we have been here at least 50 times in the past 6-7 yrs in the last 3-4 yrs prices have gone up nearly 50% and the portion sizes have gone way down. Ate there a few nights ago, no bread basket with butter and pretzels, just a basket of rather hard pretzels, Red cabbage was about 70% water about 3 fork fulls of mashed potatoes and about 1.5 inches "ridiculous" of knockwurst (see photo).Only 2 lighter beers on tap and a few dark for 8.50 a piece with a big nearly 2" head..should be filled to rim for that price.......Schnitzel was pounded outrageously thin as well, used to be at least twice as thick. Often in the past they would give you two pieces of pork. For $24.00 I expect more and expect to leave full especially from a German restaurant. The food is good but everything is deep fried schnizel, sausages , pancakes ..definitely need to eat there in moderation...but as we know everything deep fried tastes good ...For spending 250.00 for dinner we did not see the value any longer. Used to see the owner and his sister there all the time, have not seen either is a very long time, they seem to have to many employees working service is good but people standing around ..they could save some money and moderate price increases with less idle labor.

Yelp
This place is nicely decorated and has a very homey atmosphere. German mugs and plates are all over the walls and the dining room resembles more a European small restaurant than your typical American eatery. At lunch, on a Saturday, they were pretty busy, but service was quick and attentive anyway. The food, if you like German food, is definitely on the best of its kind in South Florida and very closed to the real German food, unlike other places where the menu is heavily Americanized. I had the Kombination platter and the sausages are very good; so are the potato pancakes. They have a good selection of German beers, priced pretty much all of them at $ 8.50 for half liter, that's a bit more than a pint. Definitely a place I will stop by again, good food, good beer, good service and a nice ambiance.

Yelp
Nice first visit, very authentic. Live music outside. The pork stroganoff was delicious. I got the schweinehoxen, it was cooked very well, just needed a dash of salt. We split a dessert, it was great. Tight dining space but we made it work. Service on a Friday, they were very busy, but they did their best and we were taken care of. Glad we made a reservation. Great beer selection. Absolutely I would return!

Yelp
This was my first time trying German food, outside of a pretzel or bratwurst. I visited during lunch hours - the place was nicely tucked away and not crowded. Plenty of German decorative drinking mugs line the wall - if you want to earn a mug on the wall you can. The server I had was fairly new to the lunch hours, so there were some delays. She was a bit old, so to the point! If you know the northeast attitude, then you get it. I like the chicken schnitzel (they have a variety of different schnitzels) which comes with gravy. Two sides came with the meal: I got the red cabbage, which is a pickled cabbage (the pickledness was very strong) and I got the potato dumpling (kinda like a giant gnocchi). For dessert, we got the German chocolate cake and the apple strudel. The strudel was my favorite - it was light and not overly sweet. Highly recommend the strudel
google avatar

DR S.

Yelp
We did a mystery ride and happened upon this place. We ordered a sampler, schnitzel, spatzel, onion apple soup. Each item was better than the next. Undecided about dessert, we ordered both the apple streudel and the Black Forest cake. They were both so good that even after eating all that, we still can't decide which item we liked best. Everything was just THAT good.
google avatar

Teresa P.

Yelp
I did breakfast and it was awesome!!! Just like the ole' Nook! Food came out super fast and was hot! Staff are so kind, the restaurant is super cool with all these mugs everywhere that have names on them for patrons that are regulars. It's just a really cool little locals restaurant try it out!

Yelp
Monday night about 8 o'clock, we did not think there would be a wait but the place was hopping. After about 15 minutes we were shown to a wonderful corner window table. I ordered the chicken cutlet with black forest ham and a cheesy sauce. Hubby ordered pork stroganoff with a potato pancake. We both enjoyed our food very much. Our server Kelly was very attentive. I expected the wine to be sub par because this is a beer place but the wine was fresh and I enjoyed it. We did not have room for dessert but I hear the apple strudel is amazing!

Yelp
First time here. Food was amazing. Best German food I've ever had . The Kombination platte appetizer was incredible. Highly recommend that for starters. If your alone it's a meal in itself. The Veal schnitzel was so tender almost didn't need the gravy that came with it. Warm potato and cucumber salad are great sides. Everyone enjoyed there meals. For sure going back to explore the menu.

Drew B.

Yelp
had a nice lunch here, food is 3.5 to 4... place and kitchen is dirty but I enjoyed my lunch. nice lady behind bar

Yelp
I've eaten here four times now. If you like German food you best give this place a try. The pork schnitzel is done to perfection. It's pounded very thin and has the awesome, crispy yet moist , texture I love. I opt the the heap of mashed potatoes with brown gravy instead of spatzle. And being a gravy guy if you ask for extra like I do you get a bowl full on the side. The beer selection is really good. German of course and my favorite is Warstiener. You can get a full liter in a glass boot! I usually choose to sit at the bar. The service is spot on and friendly. As a bonus, the bar seat gives you a view of the gigantic portions that come out of the kitchen. This place gets busy. Parking can be full and you'll have to park a bit away and walk. I'm 5 stars on this place because it's so authentic and the servings are huge and delicious. Go for it! It's not fancy. More like a pub with dining but it's very good.
google avatar

Fred S.

Yelp
Been coming here for years. The German food is spot on! The Bavarian sampler is excellent here and offers a taste of everything. Their warm German potato salad is amazing with a mustard flavor. Their schnitzel with gravy is awesome and can be ordered gluten free also! Now has a full liquor bar!

Yelp
Flavorful and authentic German food and great beer. Massive pig shoulder crispy and juicy.

Yelp
Defaulted to this restaurant after first two choices were packed. Somehow I forgot that we are in prime tourist season. Duh! In any event glad we ended up here for a pre concert dinner.First time and pleasantly surprised. This place was very busy but we were able to be seated out back. Only downside was that we were seated very close to the live entertainment. Guy singing and playing an accordian. Really loud but hey we got to hear him mix in some Pink Floyd and Deep Purple in-between German songs. :) Not a beer drinker so decided to try a German red wine recommended by the server. It went well with my Sauerbraten and sides which, were delicious. My daughter was happy as well with her chicken schnitzel and two sides.

Yelp
Wow what a place authentic German cuisine. Feels like you step back to the old country with the best tasting food schnitzel to die for. Delicious beer. Pretzels and mustard on the table. "The best red cabbage I ever had" my 90 year old father in law stated. And he is originally from the old country. We will be back to try more of this fabulous menu. Make a reservation early the restaurant is busy from the moment they open.

Yelp
I truly hate to give this restaurant a low star rating and the only reason I won't rate it one star is because of our waiter. I called 30 minutes in advanced asking to put in our reservation (my original idea was closed for the holiday so I went with plan B). The lady I spoke to put us down and I was prepared for a busy night because it was loud on the phone. We walked in and were seated within 5 minutes...at a dirty table. It was wiped clean eventually. Our waiter knelt down, exhausted from the day. I reassured him that it's okay and to take his time. This poor guy was worked hard and needed a breather for sure. He took our drink and food order, gave us a complimentary basket of bread and pretzels, and that's when it went down hill. We sat at our table for...I'm not joking...1.5 hours before we got our food. Our waiter was apologizing profusely and was embarrassed. It wasn't his fault in the slightest...there was one chef cooking for the entire place and he was backed up by 15 receipts...that's absurd! When we received our food, I thought the Spätzle was rather plain which was a bummer. But worst of all, my husband ordered veal and he got the chicken. We also waited quite a while to get gravy for our food. It was a complete mess here. My husband asked for a refund on his chicken (and not to bring back veal because we had waited long enough) and our waiter took the food back and didn't charge us for that dish. I felt awful for my husband because he received food he didn't order and waited 1.5 hours for it. Our waiter showed proof that he put in the order correctly and it was on the chef. He truly was embarrassed by what we experienced and continued to apologize...he couldn't even look at us in the eyes towards the end because it was so bad. He thanked us continuously for being patient and kind during the entire dinner (even though the situation was terrible and I'll never come back, I would never ever treat waitstaff with disrespect). So for that, I put this restaurant at 2 stars instead of one. Our waiter was amazing for what he was working with in the kitchen. Pros: the beer was good, our waiter was great, and the bratwursts were delicious. However, this was a terrible experience and I'm really bummed because I can't find any German food near me in NC.

Yelp
Food and drinks are plentiful and a full line of German beers on tap. New addition liquor bar provides all mixed drinks and more added taps. Food served in large portions and liters of beer as a perfect addition. Wait staff excellent. Best German atmosphere in Fort Lauderdale.

Yelp
Really fun authentic German food. Traditional menus items and good beer. We went on a Sunday night and it was lively and fun. A duet played German folk classics on their accordions.

Yelp
Checkers is awesome. Great German bar with amazing food, staff and management. Always a pleasure coming here, they really take care of you. Especially the bartenders grey & Angie and the manager Wendal.

Yelp
This restaurant was decent and it's been around a long time, but it doesn't compare to German schnitzel. It's more like Austrian fare and the beer flows in large boot type glasses. I didn't Love it, some of the side dishes were so bland.

Yelp
EVERY time I come to FL I ALWAYS dine at checkers. It's so interesting and fun; great to bring friends too! The food is good; feels like I'm eating at one of my German relatives home; all the staff are nice and welcoming. You should go! You will leave happy.

Yelp
Always a great experience. Pork stroganoff is fantastic, Pork shank is a must, Fish salad (Grouper) is epic. Service is pretty solid. Top selection of beer and really nice new bar area.

Yelp
Been craving for some good traditional German food, and my wife found this place on Yelp. There is another German restaurant near by our house, but I guess we just wanted to try different places. Walked in the restaurant and immediately brought memory back as if I was back to Octoberfest in Munich. I particular love to see all the different German beer bottles displayed on the wall. I felt like I wanted to try each and every one of them. First, the beer. I saw the "boot" and of course I had to go with that. I honest thought I couldn't finish it, but I guess I under-estimated myself. When the beer is good, it makes it easy to drink up. Now it's time to order some food. I typically go with the Wiener Schnitzel so went with it. The dish has a lot of favors. The breading was light and the meat was delicious. I also had two sides with potato 2-ways. All of our dishes came out pretty quickly and tasted amazing. We will definitely come back!

Yelp
Been coming for years and realized never shared my great experiences. Came last night for dinner with the family and everyone raved about how excellent everything was. Friday night and the place was packed! Make a reservation. Started off with a bread and pretzel basket while we ordered boots of beer. Lots of great German beers to choose from. Spaten Oktoberfest is my recommendation. Also had the potato pancakes for the table with apple sauce and sour cream. Amazing! Great starter suggestion. If you're unsure go with the Bavarian Platter. You get a sampler of all kinds of good stuff. TRUST ME this is usually my go to. I always want a bit of everything and this is the platter for that. You also get 2 sides and there is a lot to choose from, but go spatzal for sure and whatever else. Wife & I did the platters and My parents both opted for the cabbage rolls. Everything was really tasty and flavorful. Everything came out in good timing. Waitress was really nice and attentive. We wrapped up the dinner with the German chocolate cake which is amazing. Left us all craving for more. Pro Tip - try the Forest Cake too. I've been before for lunch many times and it's always a hit! Constantly a 5 star experience and I should have written a review a long time ago. FYI parking at night is valet only in the back. It's free so just a tip.

Yelp
This is a small mom and pop German restaurant that has a very foreign feel to it. It has some fun decor and service was good. Our waiter suggested the Bavarian platter and a pork dish. Everything we had tasted great, although the pork loin was very dry and pretzel was a bit stale. It was a great experience and we had so much fun.

Yelp
My foodie partners in crime had a great get-together at Checkers Old Munchen on a Saturday at 1pm. There were plenty of tables at this early time. One from our party is originally from Germany, living in Lake Worth and we were excited to hear her opinion. They gave us warm pretzels and mustard while we decided on our course of action! We started the adventure with Franziskaner, an aromatic fruity wheat beer that was very smooth and refreshing. All of us tried a bowl of the Bavarian Onion & Apple soup which has sautéed onions and apples in a beef and lager broth topped with provolone cheese. This was an absolutely delicious starter! A party of 2 split the schweinhaxen, a 2 lbs pork shank that is crispy on the outside and moist on the inside! I went with the Bavarian Platter because I like to sample a bit of everything. It comes with bratwurst, knockwurst, wienerschnitzel and schweinbraten along with 2 sides -- I chose sauerkraut and potato salad. For dessert, we all got a single shot of espresso. My German friend loves the sugar sticks -- her sister brings them for her when she visits Florida and she hasn't found any locally until now! Some of the party also tried the Black Forest Cake, a chocolate cake layered with cherries and cream. I am guilty of stealing the whip cream which went great with the espresso. I hadn't been here since about 3 years ago (pre-pandemic). At that time, it was jam packed when we went on a Friday or Saturday night. I like that they added outdoor seating in the back which will certainly help with a good crowd!
