"Chef Oya Woodruff offers items like loaded crab legs, shrimp, lobster tail, salmon, and snow crab, all topped with your choice of her famous flavored “buttah,” along with sides like broccoli, potatoes, corn, and boiled eggs. The butter, in flavors like OG herb garlic, yaad jerk, and vegan citrus chive, is rich and flavorful, especially drizzled over your entire tray of food where it combined with the seasoning on each dish to enhance the experience. But the Trap is more than great seafood. The Black-owned business does community work, helping bring relief to Indy’s east side, one of the biggest food deserts in the state, and living up to the motto: “Feed the people, build the community, love the trap.” You can also purchase bottles of the buttah to have at home." - Mike Gillis

This place is interesting, it really does feel like you’re ordering from a trap spot. The price is definitely great for all that you receive. The sauce and food was good. But the shrimp texture bothered me a bit since the food wasn’t made to order so I ended up not eating it. They give you a whole corn on the cob which I especially liked instead of some places who only give a quarter piece of a corn

Google
If you love seafood, then The Trap is a must. The portions are large, the seafood is fresh, and the Trap butter makes everything so delicious! They have a variety of Trap butters, I had the OG, which added so much flavor to my meal. I especially love the vegetables that came with the combo I'm definitely getting extra next time. Make sure you follow them on Instagram for specials and hours.

I've been trying to get myself to Chef Oya's The Trap for months, maybe a year now! You know why? They're open Wednesday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Do you know what else? You can only get away with those kinds of hours if your food is excellent. The bottom line is Chef Oya's food is absolutely fantastic! The food is fresh and just popping with flavor. Buttery, garlicky seafood sprinkled generously with parmesan. The potatoes, broccoli, and corn make for a perfect combination of tastes and textures. Large portions. Friendly service. Reasonable prices. One negative, aside from the limited hours, is that you'll need to take your food elsewhere or eat in your car.

Google
So you go up to a window to order. There is a small plastic cutout, and It's really difficult to hear the person and they aren't so friendly. There is a speaker that cuts in and out. You order and they turn around and you receive it in about 3 minutes flat. Nothing is made to order. The broccoli was cold. But as long as you know what you're getting, this is an incredible value. I got the island curry loaded shrimp for $15. Shrimp was tender and basically perfect. I can't attest to the crab or lobster but I'd certainly be willing to give them a try next time. I just wish they had a place to sit or something. Just put a table out there somewhere. Oh, and why do we need a plastic cutout window? I guess it's the charm of the place but c'mon. Whatever 5 stars anyways.

This was my first time visiting and I Will definitely be back! Nice portions, well seasoned and didn’t break the bank! I had the loaded crab legs and shrimp and it was delicious!

Google
Amazing! Worth waiting even in the cold outside! The chowder is better than what I had in Boston!!!!!!! I had the shrimp platter and my husband had the shrimp 5 ways The sides were good, broccoli, potatoes and an ear of corn as well as a boiled egg all slathered in the butter and spice of your choice. This is take out ONLY You will be waiting outside but again so worth it. Go early otherwise they might run out of what you plan on getting.

Google
Chef Oya's the TRAP Rating: 4.3/5 stars Do y'all like feeling as if you need to take a shower after you eat dinner? Do you enjoy the danger of eating unknown amounts of oil and butter? Do you want to literally see how much seafood can be stuffed into an ordinary styrofoam container? Do you crave having your name screamed by Chef Oya herself? The goods: Small, hole-in-the-wall feel and charm. Extremely fast service. Large portions. The shrimp and crab were cooked perfectly. The bads: The food was lukewarm at best- wish it was a bit hotter (temperature-wise). The broccoli was pretty mushy while the potatoes were a little undercooked. I wish there was more depth to the flavor profile. Don't get me wrong, I love butter, oil, garlic, and parmesan cheese. But that's basically all that can be tasted here. There are a variety of sauces, so I'll be back to try a different one.

Sydney A.

Yelp
Just moved in right around the corner so walked over to give it a try since it's been on my list of places to try for a while. Got their Friday special (loaded crab leg and shrimp tray for $25). It got out quick and it was delicious! It was drowned in their incredible sauce. Definitely will be back fairly regularly. And they sell their sauce by the bottle too so I'll probably end up buying some of that as well

Yelp
As much as I want to keep coming back, the owner is closing her business this weekend. Her food is always so good with all of the perfect seasonings and how she gives back to this community since it's a food desert is amazing. Chef Oya puts her love in all of her food--and all of Indy agrees. Like I mentioned, since Saturday is her final day of business, be prepared to wait in lines. I really hope she returns once her schedule dies down. Her food is much better than Juicy Seafood and she's also local. Can't beats that!

Michelle H.

Yelp
This was actually my first food stop in the city and sadly it was quite underwhelming to me. Perhaps maybe by the time I returned to my room, the food cooled way down and took away from it. So the broccoli, shrimp, and potatoes were soft, almost mushy and overall, it lacked salt. I know I'm from the south along the gulf coast and the seafood & prep may be different, but wow, the food just tasted bathed in the ingredients rather than being cooked/boiled in it. Crab leg didn't snap open and when I got in there, it was super bland. But I will say, the corn tasted super fresh and was delicious...gimme more pls!! Got the garlic butter flavor w/mild heat since I wasn't sure how hot it would be and it was very mild indeed. It definitely has a strong buttery garlic presence.

Dusti C.

Yelp
Heard so much about this place and had to stop for my boyfriend's surprise birthday treat. We could have shared a tray it was so full of deliciousness-potatoes, broccoli, corn on the cob, hard boiled egg, shrimp and salmon. 2 trays for $32 every Wednesday. Can't beat it. We also got the trap chowder-make sure you try it!! Chef Oya greets you pleasantly and makes sure you get everything you need for your order. Don't be alarmed by the location-it's literally on the side of a liquor store in the hood and you wait either in your car or outside to receive your order.

Andie H.

Yelp
Food was plentiful. I got the half pound of shrimp and crab legs. Everything was included such as egg, broccoli etc. It was my first time visiting and Chef Oya explained the different options and sauce levels. The service was awesome.

Oscar G.

Yelp
I've visited Chef Oya intermittently over the last few years. Recently, I had a Wednesday afternoon that allowed me to be nearby to grab lunch to go. I was greeted warmly when the menu offerings were shared. Just 5 minutes after making my order, my meal was ready. I was able to enjoy shrimp and salmon from the comfort of my home. Everything was delicious. Although the seafood was wasn't fresh from the water, it was seasoned well. Highly recommended.

Brandon P.

Yelp
I tried your food back in 2021 and I felt it was by far the worst seafood platter I had ever tasted. being from Wash DC, I wanted to be supportive of a black business especially a black woman. I spent over 40$ for shrimp that was extremely stringy and mushy. Everything from the shrimp to the potatoes was seasonless. It was so bad that I have not been back until today when a co-worker mentioned that The Trap was closing. I figured I'd try again with supporting the biz and seeing if maybe I just received a bad batch. Nope!! My co-worker stood in line for 3 hours to being me back the exact same thing I received on my first experience. I ordered 2 platters and got seasonless food with mushy and stringy shrimp. Again spending over $40 dollars. I wish you well in your future endeavors but your food will not be missed.

Patrice M.

Yelp
There's a lot of seafood spots in the city but I can care less about em if it isn't The Trap! The difference is she puts a lil love in her seasonings or something. The kind of seasonings that have you licking your fingers in public looking for more food in the bottom of the carton. Big portions and always cooked to perfection. Can't wait to see her get the recognition she deserves in this city! Four thumbs up!!!

Raena L.

Yelp
Some of my coworkers have been raving about Chef Oya's The Trap, and when they said they were making a lunch run, I was like, yes, count me in, please! They went early to get take out because apparently there can be a wait to sell-outs; I have no experience with that. I only got the Trap Chowder because we were in a soup mood. At $16 for the lg (16oz) soup, it's not cheap ... but it was really good and counted as my whole lunch. Shrimp, crab, lobster ... I'm fairly sure with the cream and butter it was my week's worth in fat and calories, but it was WORTH IT. I love a good soup, love seafood, and this did not disappoint at all. Of course you can get other seafood dishes, and everything looks delicious. It's a little high priced for my personal budget to do this more often, but it does seem to be priced akin to other places in the market. And it was good. I may have to treat myself again ... Super #yum. #ReviewsByRL

Yelp
Ooohhh lort, this is literally the type of food you prep for! You pick it up, bring it home then get to work! Usually, I fight with people (or myself) but we all know with crab legs, it's on. Needs: Kitchen towel over placemats, extra plate, trash can, seafood fork, nut cracker, bib, wet wipes, gloves, glasses, nitro-check. LOL I ordered legs & shrimp. It does come with egg, potatoes, broccoli. This was/is enough for 2 but I don't share LOL My only complaint, this time, would be my legs weren't as sweet as I'm used too. However, a little melted home butter made them alright! Good good & a lot for the price!

Christopher F.

Yelp
I've been trying to go here for many months and finally got to the area when they were open. The flavors are amazing. Large portions perfect to share. We got the shrimp boil with potatoes and corn. Garlic. Lots of garlic. Amazing stuff and the price is right! You have to go to this place! Chef Oya rocks it out!

Douglas Y.

Yelp
Fantastic food! Super fresh and delicious and priced right! Perfect to share! The perfect selection for race weekend!

Konah W.

Yelp
Like several other reviews, I say this place is worth the hype & worth the wait! It's a little inconspicuous, so you'll pass it up if you're not keeping an eye out. The carry out only restaurant is located in a liquor store on 34th and Keystone. I ordered the trap panini with a side of potatoes & grilled shrimp -- which turned out to be two meals thanks to the large portion sizes.

Karla S.

Yelp
Have you tried this local gem?? Well it's a must!!! I gave 4 stars instead of 5 only because I was told an estimated wait time and it was triple that (they weren't busy and I went early!) I also paid extra for extra salmon and I was given the standard portion :(. The chef wasn't present today. The staff that I saw weren't wearing masks and were just a tad bit les then friendly. So aside from that, the food is amazing!! I've been here a few times (pre-yelper), but this is my first review. I had the grilled trap panini and trap chowder. This was the delay for my order. They make them to order (awesome) but it took like 30 mins for a fancy grilled cheese. Anywho, it was delicious! It's so flavorful. The bread taste like OG trap buttah ...the insides overflow with gooey cheese and trap goodness...just delicious! The trap chowder is so freaking good! Like gimmie a gallon and a straw and I'm good for awhile. The chowder is filled with crab, shrimp, corn, potatoes and I'm guess Chef Oya "put her foot in it"...lol. It's my favorite item on the menu. There aren't words to describe its gimmie as...just be sure to get it when you visit. I ordered the salmon tray for a friend. I've had this before and it's good. I love the veggies and OG garlic buttah sauce w/ parm and spicy seasoning is the way to go! Other sauces are offered but I love this one so mention I'm scared to try a new one!

Yelp
Hey friends! This spot lives up to the hype! As I was driving here for the first time, I saw the long line of people through the parking lot before I even saw the sign. Word on the street is that there's always a line, which is a great indicator that there's good food inside. This spot is a seafood hut within a liquor store off of Keystone. There is no interior to it, rather you line up outside, order, and take your food to-go. Luckily, the line goes pretty quickly and my food was ready in only a few minutes. It's the time of COVID, and it was cool to see all of the people in line waiting six feet apart, even without being told to. Everyone really respected that and was also in their masks. Now let's talk food. There's a menu posted up outside, and you order from that. Essentially, you choose your seafood, trap buttah sauce, and whether you want it either loaded (with all the veggies - corn, broccoli, cauliflower, potatoes, boiled egg) or non and whether you want it spicy or not. For seafood, you can choose salmon, shrimp, crab legs, crab tails, or a combo of those. For buttahs, you can choose garlic herb, yaad jerk, sweet Thai chili, island curry, or vegan citrus chive. You can even buy a bottle of trap buttah or FoodLoveTog seasoning (mild, medium, or spicy) to take home with you. And you'll want to. I got the loaded shrimp platter with OG garlic herb buttah and mild seasoning. Every bite was delicious, and for $16, I got two completely full to-go boxes of food. It'll last you for two meals, and let me tell you, I'm excited for those leftovers later tonight. Run here!

Yelp
The food was great, we are glad we came here to eat! We had garlic herd butter with shrimp, potatoes and crab legs with broccoli. It was delicious!!!

Gyamfua G.

Yelp
The line was long....and it was hot, but baaaaaaaby it was ALLLLLLL worth it. The Trap is located on 34th and Keystone connected to a liquor store...for some folks..intimidating...for me..oh well. Lines can be long...and sometimes slow...but oooh it is sooo worth it. This particular trip I ordered a crab and shrimp tray and a all shrimp tray. The all shrimp tray came with really good brocolli, potatoe, a whole cob of corn and 10 medium sized shrimp. It was smothered with really good Trap buttah and shaved parmesean cheese. The food was so well seasoned without swimming in buttah... This is definitely a must visit, and grab a bottle of Trap Buttah for some snackin' later!

Yelp
I have been dying to come here, I've seen it all over IG, and it's always been a place that I have been curious about. I did some research and discovered that it is super close to the Campus I work at, so naturally I had to go check it out. I didn't know what to expect. I just ventured over and hopped in line. I go to chatting with some people in line; they made some recommendations, which I appreciated. Once it was my turn, I walked up to the window and placed an order for the loaded shrimp and Salomon with corn and red potatoes. You also get choice of trap buttah, and I am a big fan of garlic so I had to go with that choice. The service is quick and efficient, and the prices a so reasonable for seafood, tasty plus authentic I loved it and cannot wait to go back for more. @_foogs

Yelp
This was amazing I can't believe I've lived by this place for so long and never tried it. Great deal for delicious food 2 seafood plates for $35 on Wednesdays can't beat that!!

Sarah S.

Yelp
THE LINE IS WORTH THE WAIT !! I don't know where to begin to describe Chef Oya's The Trap's food other than WOW. This was the best $29 I've spent in awhile. I ordered the lobster tail & shrimp with the garlic herb sauce (spicy level : medium). You also get broccoli, potatoes, hard boil egg, and an ear of corn with your meal. First, you do not lack for flavor or sauce on all of your food. Second, I feel most places tend to overcook veggies to the point where they are soggy- NOT The Trap. That broccoli still had structure even after soaking up the sauce and after the 20 minute journey home. For vegetarians or if seafood isn't your jam, The Trap does have a veggie option for you. The Trap has a walk-up window to order and there's a picnic table to eat your food if it's available. The Trap is connected to a liquor store, so if you're confused you are in the right place. There is a parking lot available. Friendly staff. I'll definitely be back !

Jastina C.

Yelp
This restaurant made its debut on the news like a year ago but I was never going to make the trip. Now I am closer due to work and so excited!! you will probably wait at least 30 min for your food, and if you come closer to close you'll probably have to let her tell you what you'll get because she'll run out of things, but once you eat whatever you ordered, it's delicious!!! I can say I've eaten seafood my whole life and never had it like this. There are 4 sauces you can choose from and even buy them by the bottle. I got the shrimp platter. It has broccoli potatoes corn and an egg. So good!! Now the down side. Location isn't ideal/easy to get to. And since she does it all herself with a high demand the wait isn't convenient. There are also frequent times it won't be open regular hours so this isn't a place you should make a trip to without calling first. The product is outstanding!! If the business side was better it'd be a 10 for me!

Madison R.

Yelp
If I ever make my kid's dad mad, this is where I go to buy forgive me food. Looking at the photos in this review simply has my mouth watering. Variety of seasonings and trap butta, you really cannot go wrong. Sometimes there's a line, sometimes they sell out of the good stuff. Trap Chowder, get there early if you're serious. Be sure to say hi to Chef Oya as well! Amazing food, always worth it, but don't go if you don't want to be addicted!

Brianna T.

Yelp
this restaurant is pick up only, no dining in. I ordered the loaded salmon tray that comes with shrimp, potatoes, corn on the cob, broccoli and a boiled egg and I chose the OG Garlic Butter sauce spicy and with parmesan cheese. There are other butter sauces available and when you place your order they ask is you want it mild or spicy and if you want to add parmesan cheese at no extra cost. most days the wait is long due to the amount of people in line placing an order but this food is definitely worth the wait.

Ashley S.

Yelp
My mouth waters and my heart flutters every time I think about The Trap. This place is a no-frills, just-good-food, worth-the-wait establishment. After literally drooling over the pictures on Instagram all week I got myself over to The Trap at 11am on Wednesday to experience the loaded crab legs with shrimp. Loaded trays come with potatoes, corn on the cob, broccoli, and a hard boiled egg. Rumor has it there can be long lines but I got my food after waiting just a few minutes. I would be lying if I said I made it all the way home before I was elbow deep in OG garlic herb trap buttah. Every single bite (handful) was AMAZING. The seafood tastes so fresh and flavorful and the sides are just basking in the glow of the young bae seasoning and buttah. Even though everything is basically swimming in butter, nothing tastes greasy or too heavy. Next time I might amp it up to medium spice and try the salmon. Basically Chef Oya is my hero.

Shana F.

Yelp
The Trap is genius! Why? Because they open before noon, they serve delicious food at a fair price. For a spot that is a small operation they figured out how to please their customers and serve fresh good tasting food. And they are out meaning closed by 4pm. It compromises great because of sharing the building and lot with a Eastside liquor store. Service is friendly and efficient! Shana G.

Yelp
Hands down the best seafood I've had in the year I've lived in Indianapolis. I've tried different seafood restaurants around here, and while they're all good, most felt like it was missing *something*. Then I heard about Chef Oya a week ago on a local food group. I've been really excited to try it ever since and this morning, I finally got to see what all the hype was about. I ordered the loaded crab & shrimp (added a lobster tail) with the OG garlic buttah & spicy bae seasoning. I also had to try the famous chowder. I don't even know where to start! After I got home and finally opened the bag, the smell of spices and freshness hit me. It smelled SO FRESH!! The color of everything blends together beautifully, and the taste does too. I'll definitely be buying a bottle of the buttah! The box itself easily weighs 2 lbs. They're not playing on portions! The chowder is unlike any other chowder I've tried. It's creamy, smooth & flavored perfectly. Overall, everything is fresh, vibrant, delicious and the portions are amazing for what you pay! You really get your money's worth.

Aaron S.

Yelp
If I could give this place 10 stars I would. Things to remember: 1) Bring paper towels and wet-naps; you will need them. 2) Order more than you think you want; it's so good that you'll be wanting more than you had. 3) if you don't live in Indianapolis or the surrounding area, you are going to be at least a little sad when you head home - because seafood this good Is very, very hard to find. We shared a plate of crab & shrimp with the garlic sauce; it came with potatoes, broccoli, a hard-boiled egg, and an ear of corn, all drenched in that lovely sauce. Given how utterly good it was, I cannot imagine anything on the menu there being otherwise.

Kristen B.

Yelp
After a few unsuccessful attempts to try The Trap (not open on my previous attempts), I was ecstatic to finally get a taste of that herb buttah goodness. No holding back on the seasonings here; everything is doused in it and I loved every bit of it. The $15 loaded shrimp tray included potatoes, broccoli & corn...enough to split and still feel satisfied, or have all to yourself and eat like a king (or queen). The inconsistent hours are the only drawback. Check them out on FB to get sporadic updates about dates and times it's open before making a special trip, but if you're going to be in the area, it's worth just driving by to see if it's open.

Amber F.

Yelp
I have done a review for The Trap before. I've been going here for a while. Today, I had the salmon and shrimp tray. I usually have issues with the food not being hot, but it was hot this time. The egg was overcooked, salmon little too well done, and potatoes weren't cooked all the way. The food still has plenty of flavor and prices are good. This restaurant is park in the parking lot and order at the walk-up window. Parking is easy, and sometimes there's a line. Unfortunately, today the lady at the window was a little less than friendly, which hasn't been a common occurrence but did make the experience a bit unpleasant.

Laquetta D.

Yelp
Wait a minute now HERE!!!! I did NOT know that shrimp could melt in your mouth did you????? Well let me tell you what Ms. NaToya is doing her thing over at The Trap! Woooowee! The food is absolutely delicious. One teeny-tiny thing I would say, is that I did add just a touch of salt, but that was my personal taste. You get a nice portion of food with each order. I was just taken back at how good this food was. Just wow! So my experience: it's a line up type of establishment; so no walk-in or seating. You wait in line outside to place your order and get your food. I hope she's able to find an indoor location seeing the winter weather is coming and I'm not sure I'll want to stand in the cold (it's worth it buuuuuut I'd have to reallly want it). Once you get up to the counter, it's a relatively short wait (you just gotta get up there). NaToya is a sweetheart. Except when she was playing with my emotions and held my food 30-seconds longer when I told her my mouth was watering lol She was very pleasant to all the guests, it was nice. I'll be back. Definitely before it gets too cold. I will be back. It's great. Compared to these other seafood places popping up everywhere, they have a high standard to match when it comes to Oya @ The Trap. They got some work to do. Take notes people.

Mel L.

Yelp
The ambiance at Chef Oya's is really unlike any other seafood joint I been too. Situated in a lil liquor store plaza off Keystone & 34th, expect to stand in line for a minute becos there is no indoor seating or seats outside to sit and wait. There is a bench in front of the stand that could be used. There is parking right in front and rear where you can go chill at until your order is called from the intercom. If you're lucky, you'll hear Chef Oya pretty sultry voice calling out your order just minutes after placing it. Although there was a line when I got there, the line moved pretty quick and so did the orders. The line had pleasant people too. No one was in a rush everyone was patient and small convos were being had with other Trappers. There is a menu on both sides of the window order but I suggest pulling up the menu online to order once you get to the register. Londo's, black owned lemonade is also available and I highly recommend any flavor including the pineapple! They've trap buttah sauces available for sale including a vegan buttah sauce to take home and if you want to try all I would suggest the shrimp sampler platter (pictured), you can get spicy or regular. I liked the chowder too but for me it was a lil too cheesy. Overall, I'm so pleased to have gone and can't wait to see The Trap expand becos the Chef is on point with the platter combos, buttahs and everything else The Trap offers. If you in Indy - this is a must!

Dee Y.

Yelp
I love Chef Oyas....everything is good! We need better hours that's all for the working people! Good good seafood!!!!

Krysha M.

Yelp
Let me save you some time. Stop reading reviews for The Trap -- and just GO. RIGHT NOW*. You're welcome. Need more proof? Let me break it down for you. Unassuming location (34th and Keystone at the end of the liquor store), walk-up service only, and the sweetest Chef herself greeting you at the window. Take your choice from the posted menu to get the freshest tasting seafood you could hope to find in this land-locked town. Order, pay, wait, and get your food. Easy. The hard part? Smelling your food all the way home -- mouth watering -- anticipation killing ya. Side note - I think Chef Oya opted not to have lots of seating so that I would not embarrass myself in public. It was crazy the way I dove in to my platter head first in the privacy of my own home -- napkin wiping my whole face along the way. Thanks for that, Chef. Today I opted for the Loaded Salmon and Shrimp platter with the Yaad Jerk Buttah ($15 even). This comes with a piece of salmon, 6 good sized peeled but tail-on shrimp, red potatoes, broccoli, a hard boiled egg, and corn on the cob -- not that stingy little 1/3 coblett you get at other places -- but a FULL ear of *perfectly cooked* corn. Take all of that and cover / surround it with your choice of signature 'buttah' -- choose from Garlic and Herb, Yaad Jerk, a curry and a thai (I believe) -- and your food is just happier. I have to mention again that the shrimp were perfectly cooked and somehow Chef managed to get the perfectly crisp yet sweet ear of corn in early May in Indiana. This is no pre-made, soaking in hot water kinda corn. It's magic, I tell ya. So yes, I will go back. Often. I have my eye on another loaded platter and will try it 'extra hot' next time. I just hope it's raining again so I am not tempted to plop down on the curb and just eat it right there. Jesus take the wheel. *if right now falls between 11-3ish pm when they are open. If not, plan ahead and go first thing the following day, please.

Yelp
i finally made it to the trap after years of staring longingly at pictures online. for the price this food was more than excellent. the food was ready super quick and smelled divine. honestly it smelled so good i wished there was somewhere to sit and drinks and i would have dove right in.

Yelp
Finally got to see what the hype was about. Luckily we went early on a Sunday but I believe hours vary so please check hours before you go. I got the shrimp and crab with original Trap sauce and Parmesan cheese. Unfortunately I am not a fan of the wet crab legs. I could've have actually done with out the sauce. Being a crab addict I could immediately tell the crab legs were boiled in water instead of being steamed. Using that cooking method makes the meat lose lots of its integrity. You couldn't really take the sweet Snow crab taste. The were cooked perfectly and potatoes where great. The location is a easy access and it just amazes me that you can now walk up to a window and order delicious seafood. I did not get to try a Trap drink but I will next time.

Yelp
I hadn't heard of Oya's until I moved into the neighborhood. This place is dishing flavor bombs out of a window attached to a liquor store. It's super unassuming and you probably wouldn't know it was there unless you've heard about it. There is only one picnic table to sit at so I'd probably plan to grab and go if I were you. The food blew my mind. Corn on the cob, Broccoli, potatoes, a hardboiled egg, shrimp, and crabs stacked high and slathered in Oya's incredible buttah sauce. It's seasoned heavily and topped with cilantro and Parmesan. Our favorite extra sauce we tried was the island curry. When you dive in ditch the fork and knife. Just go all in hands and all. This isn't food for manners. If you're eating this with a crew it's going to vanish fast I don't think you'll find anything else like this food in indianapolis so check it out!

Yelp
I ordered the lobster and shrimp boil, and the main issue I had was the lobster. Unfortunately, the lobster tail t was overcooked, and I do think they're pre-cooked lobster tails. The lobster was so "liquidity burnt," it couldn't get it out the shell. I do suggest that chef oya, lift the lobster out of the shell before cooking it again (since they're already cooked by the lobster manufacturer). Another issue is that the seasoning wipes out the lobster taste. Good things: The shrimp and the og garlic herb seasoning were great together. I will come back solely for a shrimp dish with the garlic butter seasoning.

Yelp
This is some of the best seafood in Indianapolis. They are prompt, friendly, and offer a unique experience. We will be returning.

Yelp
Usually if a business starts small and humble, you know that they are on to something major! My Facebook timeline is riddled with The Trap testimonies. It does not help things I pass the place in my way to and from work every day. So as soon as I could, I went "trappin'"! I'm a crab girl, so today's first try is the Loaded Crableg tray with parmesan. The tray is filled to the brim with food! With the 3-4 crab legs, there is about 5-6 large shrimp, a full cob of corn, red potatoes and broccoli. There was also an boiled egg, but I choose not to eat it (just didn't want to, nothing against the business). Everything has the garlic butter on it. Which was good. The part that about the meal that shined the most of the corn ; it was very good and seasoned just right. However, everything was great and I was overall happy with my meal. For me, I think I want to try a few different garlic butter favors. I feel maybe a kick of another favor will bring the food from great to awesome. As others reviews have stated, the only seating is a picnic table and one orders from a window. Most folks just pick up their meals and leave...or eat in the car. No big deal - the food is good enough. I definitely will be back to try other items, especially different favors on the crab legs.

Yelp
This food is definitely worth the trip. Everything was fresh and full of flavor. With different sauces to choose from to slather your food in, you can never go wrong. The wait time can be long, but you'll be happy in the end. Get there as early as possible to make sure you get what you want. When I went, I was one of the last people to get the crab legs i wanted. Will go there again.

Yelp
Loved the seafood! The crab was so fresh and taste so good. It definitely satisfied my craving that day. The customer service was also very professional and welcoming!

Yelp
The Trap is straight fire. If you like seafood at all you need to do yourself the life changing favor of trying it. It's that perfect type of sloppy pile of heaven that you want from this kind of food. The Young Bae seasoning is no joke at the Trap Buttah is even better. The veggies in the sides were good enough to be a dish on their own but the seafood was the star. We had crab and shrimp which were both delicious but I really wanna try the fish she has as well. Chef Oya is a boss and you deserve to try her food!

Yelp
I had been saying that I was gonna try this place for awhile and never got around to it until a girls night. We had one person go pick up all of our platters and met up to eat, drink and watch Netflix. Yes, I said PLATTERS! Be ready to eat or at least have leftovers and have some what in mind what kind of sauce you want. Can't wait to go back Update: PICNIC TABLE SEATING!!! There is a walk up window to order, most of my friends order and go.

Yelp
I have been wanting to try this place for such a long time!! Today was that day....OMG, I will definitely be back for more... as in this Saturday!! My 18yr old Son has declared the Og Garlic Herb Buttah would make anything edible. I'll let him test that theory. Definitely well worth the trip!

Yelp
I ordered the Crab and shrimp loaded. Broccoli was mush. Shrimp wasn't cleaned properly so it was gritty. Egg was a dull super light yellow on the inside like it was old. The crab legs were ok. Garlic Sauce was underwhelming. Not worth the $30 I spent which is $8 more than what their online menu says. I just stopped eating it and had a bowl of cereal instead.

Yelp
I saw this spot on a news segment awhile ago and decided to try it out since I was in the city. I love seafood and I had very high expectations that were exceeded. There are a lot of options to pick so I suggest looking at the menu before you get to the window. I ordered the loaded leg and tail with shrimp with the OG garlic herb. The loaded tray came with potatoes, corn and broccoli. I also ordered a mango flameade. That food was delicious and I sat right in the parking and made the biggest mess and enjoyed every bite. I love seafood and everyone doesn't know how to make it correctly. It is usually over cooked... the lobster and shrimp were cooked perfectly. Delicious and worth every penny. Check her hours since she isn't open every day.

Yelp
I finally was able to try The Trap! Late night FB scrolling allowed me to see that Chef Oya was having Friday dinner service! We made sure that we got there early after hearing about long lines and running out of food. We were the 4th & 5th people in line and was able to order and get our food in about 10-15 minutes if that. I got the Loaded Crab & Shrimp with OG sauce and made it spicy and the days special offering, Elotes. I feel like I got the bang for my buck. Everything was cooked properly and was tender and not overcooked. I think the only thing I need is something to use the rest of the OG sauce on! I am ready to to back and I gotta try the Salmon next time!

Yelp
Nothing like it in the area. Full of flavor. Great choices. Big portions and good specials posted on social media. To go only with a few seats on a picnic table but a few parks close by if you don't want to take food home. Shrimp Tray is a great samplers of the incredible sauces. But get the Loaded Shrimp or Loaded Salmon as your main dish. Support Black owned. Support restaurants in Indy food deserts. Support Chef Oya!

Yelp
Omg...if you haven't tried it you are really missing out. I traveled from 82nd and Michigan Rd and I must say that was gas well spent. I ordered the 8oz cup of chowder and that was the best $10 I have ever spent. The base is rich and creamy with more than enough crab meat, shrimp, and crawfish tails added. The plan was to initially share this with a friend, however I didn't make it out of the parking lot with it. Can't wait for lunch again next week! (I added photos of the Traplote and jumbo shrimps tossed in OG garlic herb w/fresh parm)
